- 0:00Today's episode is sponsored by a good lecture. They can be very life-changing.
- 0:06We are all made in the image of one
- 0:08almighty God. Trump's misquote of the Constitution on Independence Day.
- 0:15Insert theme song here. This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news and made me a laugh.
- 0:20I'm Lindsay Vernick and today is July 10th, 2026.
- 0:24Happy Friday, guys. I don't know about you, but this week felt weirdly long.
- 0:29Like, I can't believe July 4th was only last Saturday.
- 0:32Like, so weird, right?
- 0:35So, in real news, if you're planning to mail literally anything right now,
- 0:39you should probably do it before Sunday.
- 0:42The U.S. Postal Service is raising the price of a forever stamp from $0.78 to $0.82 on July 12th.
- 0:50This is the sixth stamp price hike in five years, and USPS says it needs the
- 0:55extra money because it's facing major financial losses.
- 0:59I mean, aren't we all, guys?
- 1:01But also, a lot of people just aren't using the mail as much.
- 1:05The agency lost about $9 billion last year, and they've warned us that without
- 1:09additional funding, it could run out of money sometime next year.
- 1:14Could you imagine, though, like, no mail? That's, like such a staple.
- 1:18It's like actual physical banks. We don't actually need to go to them,
- 1:22but it's nice to know that they actually still exist.
- 1:26This price increase doesn't just affect letters. If you're sending a postcard,
- 1:30it's going to go from $0.61 to $0.65, and international letters and postcards are going to cost $1.75.
- 1:38Yikes.
- 1:39So if you're one of those very rare people who still sends birthday cards instead
- 1:44of just like a Venmo, it just got a lot more expensive for you.
- 1:49At this point, a handwritten thank you note is becoming very luxury.
- 1:54Pretty soon, it's going to be cheaper to fly across the country to tell grandma
- 1:57happy birthday in person.
- 2:00Police in the UK said a woman was caught driving 108 miles per hour because
- 2:06she was trying to get home in time to watch Love Island.
- 2:09According to the officers, she admitted she didn't want to miss the episode,
- 2:12which kind of makes the explanation worse and not better.
- 2:17Like, we've all rushed home for something.
- 2:20Maybe we were late for the Super Bowl or the season finale of a show.
- 2:25But if you're risking a speeding ticket over a dating show where everyone falls
- 2:29in love literally every single episode, it might be time to reevaluate your life.
- 2:35The good news is she made the news. The bad news is that she probably missed
- 2:39Love Island anyways because she had to pull over and explain to a police officer
- 2:44that reality TV was in fact an emergency. see.
- 2:48And more news out of the UK today. If you were to look at a weather map in the
- 2:53UK this week, you probably saw a giant storm system moving across the country,
- 2:58and you're probably like, oh shit.
- 3:00But it turns out this wasn't a storm. It was millions of flying ants.
- 3:07Meteorologists noticed strange patterns showing up on the radar,
- 3:10and it just looked like huge thunderstorms.
- 3:13But instead it was actually a giant swarm of ants taking flight during their
- 3:18annual mating season which is a phenomenon sometimes called flying ant day,
- 3:25yeah this is this is very much real so first of all why do ants get a whole
- 3:31day dedicated to romance i feel like they're a very unromantic bug out of all of the bugs,
- 3:38also why are they mating in the air isn't that a lot of work for them.
- 3:44The swarm was so large that it showed up on radar systems designed to check storms.
- 3:50So a meteorologist actually had to say, good news, this isn't a hurricane,
- 3:55it's just a lot of ants mating up there.
- 3:58These ants are literally getting more love and action this summer than I am.
- 4:05In Lindsay life, I was on my way home from improv last night,
- 4:09and as usual, I stand on the subway track where the queue goes. The queue is my train.
- 4:15And sometimes the subways will switch.
- 4:19And that very rarely happens on the queue. And for whatever reason,
- 4:24last night, I just was so hungry and just not thinking and just assumed it was the queue. So I got on.
- 4:31Anyways, I'm on the queue trying to do my New York Times crossword puzzle.
- 4:36And we're making, like, the queue is express. We're making, like,
- 4:38a lot of local stops. And I'm like, oh it's fine like a little weird but we're
- 4:42making local stops and then we go outside.
- 4:47And if you live in New York, you know that the subway is like you're either
- 4:52you know that you go inside or outside.
- 4:55But it's very alarming when the train goes to the outside world when you're not expecting that.
- 5:01So at the next stop in the outside world, I jump off the train and I'm like, what?
- 5:10Where am I? I look at my maps and it says it was going to be like another 30 minutes to get home.
- 5:15I was going to have to like go on the end back to the queue and I'm like I am
- 5:18literally starving it's like 8 30 on a school night like I just need to get the F home,
- 5:24so I go on Uber and thank God an Uber home is literally like $12 so I'm like
- 5:28and you know when you're in Manhattan you see an Uber for $12 like that's amazing
- 5:33you're literally so dumb to not take advantage of that.
- 5:36So I ordered the uber and I couldn't find him it took me like a few minutes
- 5:42to find the guy because I had to like go down from the subway to find this man and,
- 5:48I'm messaging him and I'm like where are you and he's like I am literally at
- 5:51your pickup location but I'm like I don't know where my pickup location is,
- 5:57so finally I like go to I follow the dots on the I'm literally just following
- 6:02the phone on the docks I'm like it was like very strange out in Queens it felt
- 6:06like I was like in a different world like it was so weird out there.
- 6:10I'm like I'm literally talking about a place that's 15 minutes away from me
- 6:13but when you're in Manhattan you know like anywhere that's not you're familiar
- 6:17with is like a very foreign country so,
- 6:21I get in the Uber and I was like hey I'm so sorry like I don't know where I
- 6:25am right now I've gone on the wrong train and I was like asking him where I
- 6:29was like where are we right now and he was like we're in Long Island City,
- 6:35because only I order an Uber and ask somebody where I am.
- 6:41MVP of this week goes to the Wimbledon Ball Kids.
- 6:46While the world's best tennis players are battling it on the center court,
- 6:50these kids are sprinting around in the background, diving for balls,
- 6:53staying completely silent, and somehow looking calm while thousands of people
- 6:58watch their literally every move.
- 7:01Let's be honest, they might have the hardest job at Wimbledon.
- 7:04The players are getting breaks, the coaches get chairs, fans get snacks and
- 7:08drinks, and these kids are running around in the heat wearing uniforms that
- 7:12look like they were designed by someone who hates pockets.
- 7:15They're basically the unpaid interns of professional sports,
- 7:19except they're somehow more athletic than most of us will ever be,
- 7:22or maybe even the athletes themselves.
- 7:25This week's MVP goes to the people
- 7:27making sure the games keep moving one perfectly timed sprint at a time.
- 7:32Cooking tip of the day. PB&Js are very underrated.
