Matt Gardiner Brings 80s-Indie Pop Heat with New Single "Trouble (Want That)"
South African pop artist Matt Gardiner is back with a bold new single, TROUBLE (Want That) out now.
Blending shimmering 80s synths, punchy indie-pop guitars, and brass from UK trumpet player Dan Newell, the track was produced and co-written by Alex Copp alongside Erin Gardiner. It leans into the magnetic pull of a relationship you know is a bad idea and the thrill of leaning in anyway.
I sat down with Matt to talk about the story behind the song, working with British musicians on the track, and what's next on his journey toward a globally relevant pop sound.
