- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whaltbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it. She's on the Money.
- 0:36Speaker 3: She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 1:00Speaker 2: that lets you me pervy about other people's money habits
- 1:03Speaker 2: educational purposes of course. Welcome back to another one of
- 1:06Speaker 2: our money days where I get the absolute privilege of
- 1:09Speaker 2: sitting down and talking to one of our incredible She's
- 1:12Speaker 2: on the Money community members all about their journey. Let's
- 1:15Speaker 2: jump straight into it today, because I got a message
- 1:17Speaker 2: this week and it sounded exactly like this, Dear She's
- 1:21Speaker 2: on the Money. I moved to Melbourne alone to start
- 1:24Speaker 2: my dream job in twenty twenty, during the peak of
- 1:27Speaker 2: COVID lockdowns. I've gone from spending and barely scraping by
- 1:32Speaker 2: to owning property with the love of my life, an
- 1:35Speaker 2: eighty thousand dollars super balance and investing regularly. But I'm
- 1:39Speaker 2: currently struggling with the weight of an inheritance that I
- 1:42Speaker 2: unfortunately received from my late father, and I'm trying to
- 1:45Speaker 2: figure out what I should be doing with it to
- 1:47Speaker 2: honor his memory. Money Darist, welcome to the show so much.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, I'm so excited to have you here.
- 1:56Speaker 2: As always, I'm going to ask the first cab off
- 1:59Speaker 2: the rank, if I asked you to give your money
- 2:01Speaker 2: habits a grade from A three to F, what would
- 2:03Speaker 2: your money habit grade be?
- 2:05Speaker 4: I would say being minus. At the moment, I do
- 2:09Speaker 4: think I have great concrete habits. But you know, with
- 2:11Speaker 4: my ADHD in my figure fullness, the ADHD tax is real.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Oh my god. We were talking about this before we
- 2:17Speaker 2: started recording, and I think we're on the same page,
- 2:20Speaker 2: which I think is going to mean that this episode
- 2:22Speaker 2: is one going to be really fun to listen to. Also,
- 2:25Speaker 2: if we go off track, that's not our fault, that's
- 2:27Speaker 2: not our fault, Like we're trying our best here, guys.
- 2:30Speaker 2: That's why I have a producer watching everything I do
- 2:33Speaker 2: to make sure that I don't go off track. Money diarist,
- 2:36Speaker 2: I feel like this is such a good money story
- 2:39Speaker 2: to share, like COVID lockdowns to meeting the love of
- 2:42Speaker 2: your life, and then in the mix of that, going
- 2:45Speaker 2: what the hell do I do with an inheritance? Because
- 2:48Speaker 2: that is a very heavy weight to carry, right, So
- 2:52Speaker 2: can you dive in and tell us a little bit
- 2:55Speaker 2: more about your money story.
- 2:57Speaker 4: So, my attitude towards money and my money's has definitely
- 3:00Speaker 4: evolved and changed over time. Growing up, money wasn't really
- 3:03Speaker 4: spoken about much at home. We never went without. I
- 3:07Speaker 4: come from a really big family. I have three siblings,
- 3:10Speaker 4: and now I look at how expensive life is, and
- 3:12Speaker 4: I can't imagine how my parents did it, you know,
- 3:15Speaker 4: on the money that they were earning back then, and
- 3:16Speaker 4: you know, I.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Don't know how anyone's doing it even these days, Like
- 3:20Speaker 2: can you imagine having four kids? Lordie?
- 3:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I just I don't know how they did it.
- 3:25Speaker 4: And yeah, I don't know how people are doing it now,
- 3:27Speaker 4: because it's obviously much worse than how it was back then.
- 3:30Speaker 4: My Mum was a big spender and still is. Some
- 3:33Speaker 4: of my first memories with her I was going to
- 3:35Speaker 4: local shopping centers on Sunday morning and going close shopping.
- 3:39Speaker 4: We always went on holidays as families and played lots
- 3:41Speaker 4: of sport, but at times, I know it wasn't easy
- 3:44Speaker 4: for my parents. It was a lot of credit card
- 3:46Speaker 4: usage and things that went under the rug to make
- 3:48Speaker 4: sure that us kids kind of didn't know that there
- 3:50Speaker 4: were issues with money, which I don't know if I
- 3:52Speaker 4: look back at that now and think of it in
- 3:54Speaker 4: a positive or a.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Negative light, I don't know what. I think. That's sweet.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I'm not saying that that's the right thing, because we
- 4:00Speaker 2: obviously want to try and be transparent, but like, they
- 4:03Speaker 2: were just trying to give you the best childhood, and
- 4:04Speaker 2: that's so sweet, and they were.
- 4:06Speaker 4: Definitely trying to protect us, and you know, I didn't
- 4:08Speaker 4: really know until I was old enough to understand, which
- 4:11Speaker 4: is a good thing, I think.
- 4:12Speaker 2: So yeah, I just find it really sweet, especially when
- 4:15Speaker 2: you're like, oh, actually, oh, Mum and dad, thanks, but
- 4:19Speaker 2: also sorry.
- 4:20Speaker 4: And then yeah, So I've been working in the public
- 4:22Speaker 4: service since I was eighteen. I deferred from a UNI
- 4:25Speaker 4: degree because I didn't know if it was right for me.
- 4:27Speaker 4: I haven't gone back to UNI since I'm now twenty
- 4:30Speaker 4: six and I still haven't gone back to UNI. And
- 4:32Speaker 4: you know what, I'm happy what I'm doing at the moment,
- 4:34Speaker 4: which is great. My first government job I didn't really love.
- 4:37Speaker 4: It was more adamin based in the state government caught
- 4:39Speaker 4: permanency at nineteen and then I struggled with death facework
- 4:43Speaker 4: due to my ADHD, so it was looking for something
- 4:45Speaker 4: more operational and community focused.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Yeah, you're actually like out with people as opposed.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Yeah, and actually like communicating with people out in a field.
- 4:55Speaker 4: And then I applied when I was nineteen years old
- 4:58Speaker 4: for the job that i'm in now that i've been in.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Oh, you've had that for a while.
- 5:02Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:02Speaker 4: So I moved to Melbourne in twenty twenty during lockdown
- 5:05Speaker 4: from South Australia for this job and I've been in
- 5:09Speaker 4: that job ever since.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Oh my goodness. All right, So let's get a little
- 5:12Speaker 2: bit further into it, because you mentioned obviously dream job. Great,
- 5:17Speaker 2: you moved in the peak of COVID. What was that like,
- 5:19Speaker 2: because like moving during COVID, I feel like that would
- 5:22Speaker 2: have sucked terrifying.
- 5:23Speaker 4: So I was twenty one. I'd never lived out of home.
- 5:26Speaker 4: I could barely cook. I was calling mom and dad
- 5:29Speaker 4: all the time with you know, just some help.
- 5:32Speaker 2: How do I cook eggs?
- 5:33Speaker 4: Yeah? Pretty much. And yeah, I didn't know anyone when
- 5:37Speaker 4: I first moved here. I moved in April, so it
- 5:40Speaker 4: was just before the big lockdowns happened. But you know,
- 5:43Speaker 4: I walked into my first day of work and three
- 5:46Speaker 4: weeks later started talking to my fellow coworker who I
- 5:50Speaker 4: now live with, play a.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Little office romance.
- 5:54Speaker 4: And he moved from into state as well, So I
- 5:56Speaker 4: think we were both really connected during that period of
- 5:59Speaker 4: time and really looked after each other during COVID and
- 6:01Speaker 4: things like that. I don't know if I would have
- 6:03Speaker 4: been able to do it without him.
- 6:04Speaker 2: So, oh my god, it's funny how people find each other.
- 6:07Speaker 2: I love that so much. So all of that happened,
- 6:11Speaker 2: and now you own a property with him, Like that's
- 6:14Speaker 2: zero to five thousand, Like I've moved to Melbourne also
- 6:17Speaker 2: now I live here forever. Yep.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Yeah. And then in twenty twenty two, my dad got
- 6:23Speaker 4: diagnosed with terminal lung and brain cancer.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Oh far rout, that's so shit, Like there's just no
- 6:28Speaker 2: words when that tell me about your dad?
- 6:31Speaker 4: Though he was the careless man alive. He loved a beer,
- 6:35Speaker 4: he loved the footy, he loved the part. He's just
- 6:37Speaker 4: your superent boy's boy. He is a boy's boy. But
- 6:40Speaker 4: he did love having his only girl, which is me.
- 6:42Speaker 4: He was just the life of the party up until
- 6:46Speaker 4: the day he died, so much so that his wake
- 6:49Speaker 4: was actually more of a party than anything else.
- 6:53Speaker 2: How he would have wand it we would have loved that.
- 6:57Speaker 2: How good is that? So tell me more all about that,
- 7:00Speaker 2: because that's shit, Like, there's no other like words for that.
- 7:06Speaker 2: But he got diagnosed with terminal brain and lung cancer.
- 7:10Speaker 2: And what happens from then? Like was that a that
- 7:13Speaker 2: came out of the blue or was that something that
- 7:16Speaker 2: you know he'd been struggling with for a while and
- 7:19Speaker 2: it wasn't terminal, Like what did that journey look like?
- 7:21Speaker 4: I'm completely out of the blue. We it just went
- 7:24Speaker 4: from zero to one hundred. And you know, we got
- 7:27Speaker 4: told it's not if it's when, so pretty much straight
- 7:29Speaker 4: away we did get a terminal diagnosis, so we didn't know,
- 7:33Speaker 4: you know, how much time we were going to have with him.
- 7:35Speaker 4: I'm obviously living in Victoria. My family live into state,
- 7:38Speaker 4: so trying to navigate that work wise was really difficult.
- 7:42Speaker 4: But luckily, working for the federal government, I did get
- 7:45Speaker 4: a compassionate transfer, so I was able to transfer back
- 7:47Speaker 4: to my home state for a period of time to
- 7:50Speaker 4: be there to support my mum and also to support
- 7:53Speaker 4: my dad with his treatment as well. So I'm really
- 7:55Speaker 4: grateful that I was able to do that. But yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 4: it's we're navigating like no normal without having him around.
- 8:01Speaker 2: But yeah, that's really trash. I'm so sorry, but it
- 8:05Speaker 2: sounds like, oh my gosh, Like if something ever happened
- 8:08Speaker 2: to me, I would hope that my kids talk about
- 8:11Speaker 2: me in the same way you're talking about your dad.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Like that is you know when you just go, oh,
- 8:16Speaker 2: tell me about your dad, Like what was he like,
- 8:17Speaker 2: and you're like, oh, he was the coolest man alive,
- 8:20Speaker 2: Like that is the moment, Like that is the energy.
- 8:23Speaker 2: And like I love in your letter you wrote in
- 8:25Speaker 2: and you said, you know, I've got this inheritance and
- 8:28Speaker 2: it's a really heavyweight, but I want to like honor
- 8:31Speaker 2: his memory with it, and like, from my perspective as
- 8:34Speaker 2: somebody who really focused on inheritances, when I was, you know,
- 8:38Speaker 2: working as a financial advisor. That was something that I
- 8:42Speaker 2: was like, let's do something that makes them proud, like,
- 8:45Speaker 2: especially if you've got that positive relationship, Like how can
- 8:47Speaker 2: we happy here now? And that's really shit and I
- 8:50Speaker 2: wish I could change that and we would give all
- 8:52Speaker 2: this money back of course, just swap it, but we can't.
- 8:56Speaker 2: So now, how is he looking after you? Now he
- 8:58Speaker 2: can't be here? How do we do that?
- 9:00Speaker 1: So?
- 9:01Speaker 2: Talk me through getting an inheritance? Like is this something
- 9:04Speaker 2: that you know your dad was diagnosed? Were you talking
- 9:07Speaker 2: about this with him? Was this a surprise after he
- 9:10Speaker 2: passed away? How did this work?
- 9:12Speaker 4: I think that we already knew that we were going
- 9:14Speaker 4: to be receiving inheritance from a property that was being
- 9:17Speaker 4: sold that was in my father's name. So and my
- 9:21Speaker 4: mom was very transparent with us kids, saying like obviously
- 9:24Speaker 4: letting us know that money would go to us. So
- 9:27Speaker 4: obviously my mom and my siblings who lived back home,
- 9:30Speaker 4: were you know, getting the house ready for sale after
- 9:33Speaker 4: my dad passed away, and then it sold and we
- 9:36Speaker 4: just waited for all the legal stuff. But it was
- 9:38Speaker 4: kind of something I knew, but I didn't really know. Again,
- 9:41Speaker 4: like how much it would be or when I would
- 9:43Speaker 4: receive it. And you know, my partner and I really
- 9:45Speaker 4: wanted to get into our first property because I kept
- 9:47Speaker 4: going up and up and up, So I was kind
- 9:49Speaker 4: of originally holding off to wait and see what money
- 9:51Speaker 4: I would get to use that towards the house, but
- 9:53Speaker 4: we ended up buying property without it simply because of
- 9:56Speaker 4: the fact I didn't know how much I was going
- 9:58Speaker 4: to get or when I was going to get it all. So, yeah,
- 10:01Speaker 4: it was expecting something, but I didn't really know the
- 10:04Speaker 4: ins and outs of it until after my dad did
- 10:06Speaker 4: pass away.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. And it's always such like I
- 10:09Speaker 2: love having I don't love but I love the idea
- 10:12Speaker 2: that you could have had conversations with him, but they're
- 10:14Speaker 2: also just so awkward and you don't want to be
- 10:16Speaker 2: spending your time platting with him about that when you
- 10:19Speaker 2: could be chatting about memories and like, you know, tell
- 10:21Speaker 2: me all this other stuff. Dad someone that.
- 10:24Speaker 4: Had terminal cancer light he didn't think his time was
- 10:26Speaker 4: up until this time was actually up, which I kind
- 10:28Speaker 4: of love that about him because he kind.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Of always like, nah, they're gas lighting me now.
- 10:32Speaker 4: He even died two weeks later than they said he would,
- 10:34Speaker 4: and he was like, you know what, I'm going to
- 10:36Speaker 4: push out another two.
- 10:39Speaker 2: He's like, nah, he had a point to prove. I
- 10:42Speaker 2: like the man.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Yeah, So he just like I think until the day
- 10:45Speaker 4: he died, he probably thought he was going to beat it,
- 10:47Speaker 4: which you know what, I actually I love that kind
- 10:49Speaker 4: of attitude that he always had towards his cancer. Like
- 10:51Speaker 4: my dad would complain about the smallest of things, but
- 10:54Speaker 4: when he got sick, he never complained about anything.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Oh what am I con So tell me a little
- 11:00Speaker 2: bit more. So we've got this inheritance and we'll get
- 11:02Speaker 2: back onto that in a hot minute. But like, you've
- 11:04Speaker 2: recently bought your like first home with the love of
- 11:08Speaker 2: your life, which is very cool, and you have a
- 11:10Speaker 2: very good superbalance. You said you had an eighty thousand
- 11:12Speaker 2: dollars super balance. But like, what are your big money goals?
- 11:15Speaker 2: Because for most people your age, like you're just a
- 11:17Speaker 2: baby to me, you're twenty six, most people aren't buying
- 11:20Speaker 2: their first home till thirty six. Like, what's your big
- 11:23Speaker 2: money goal now?
- 11:24Speaker 4: So I would say that my money goals actually changed
- 11:27Speaker 4: since my dad has passed away. So my old long
- 11:31Speaker 4: term money goal was probably by now to have like
- 11:33Speaker 4: a second property or really focused on my shares portfolio
- 11:36Speaker 4: and try and invest more. But now after my dad's
- 11:40Speaker 4: passed away, my money goal is to travel the world.
- 11:43Speaker 4: So since passing my dad passed away in twenty three,
- 11:46Speaker 4: I've been on four overseas trips and I have another
- 11:48Speaker 4: three goal this year, including a two month Europe trip
- 11:52Speaker 4: this year. So and then, like I guess, a long
- 11:55Speaker 4: term money goal for me now would be to do
- 11:57Speaker 4: a three to six month trip in either South America
- 11:59Speaker 4: or Southeast Asia in twenty six or twenty twenty seven.
- 12:03Speaker 4: So I think now that we're stable in the sense
- 12:06Speaker 4: of property and that I do have an investment portfolio
- 12:09Speaker 4: that I am probably not pushing into as much as
- 12:12Speaker 4: I was previously. But I think right now, like my
- 12:15Speaker 4: dad didn't get to retire, he was medically retired due
- 12:18Speaker 4: to his cancer, So I think for me, it's like
- 12:20Speaker 4: one of those things that people wait to retire to travel.
- 12:23Speaker 4: And obviously this is grateful that I'm in the position
- 12:25Speaker 4: that I'm in that I'm able to, you know, take
- 12:27Speaker 4: time orf work and travel overseas for extended periods of time.
- 12:30Speaker 4: But while I am able bodied and while I am young,
- 12:32Speaker 4: I want to try and do as much trouble as
- 12:34Speaker 4: I possibly can, so whilst holding it on my job
- 12:37Speaker 4: because I love my job.
- 12:38Speaker 2: So yeah, no, I love that. I feel, like I
- 12:41Speaker 2: have said so many times on the podcast and in
- 12:43Speaker 2: my personal life, old age is a privilege denied to many. Yes,
- 12:47Speaker 2: it is something that you know. I'm always talking to
- 12:50Speaker 2: my parents about it. I'm like, nah, we live in
- 12:52Speaker 2: life now that like, we live in life now. Like
- 12:54Speaker 2: It's why I also don't subscribe on the flip side
- 12:57Speaker 2: to like, you know how there's lots of people who
- 12:58Speaker 2: are like financial independence, we're early rarah, Like no, sorry,
- 13:02Speaker 2: we have to enjoy the journey. Like I've had too
- 13:04Speaker 2: many people around me who haven't been able to enjoy
- 13:06Speaker 2: that journey because they've been like saving for retirement and
- 13:09Speaker 2: then unfortunately retirement didn't come. And it's a really trashy
- 13:13Speaker 2: lesson that you've had to learn, right, Like you had
- 13:16Speaker 2: to go through literally the worst experience I'm assuming of
- 13:18Speaker 2: your entire life to learn. Actually, I don't want to
- 13:22Speaker 2: buy a second property. I want to enjoy the journey.
- 13:24Speaker 2: But what a gift, cheers Dad, Yeah, he'd be so proud, right, Like,
- 13:28Speaker 2: imagine if he could like just have a little check
- 13:31Speaker 2: in and be like, I wonder what money Dirist is
- 13:33Speaker 2: up to, he'd be like, oh, she do be slaying life.
- 13:37Speaker 2: He would be so proud. He'd be drinking beers. He's
- 13:39Speaker 2: definitely drinking beers watching he is.
- 13:43Speaker 4: And there's so many places in the world that he
- 13:44Speaker 4: didn't get to go to and things that he didn't
- 13:46Speaker 4: want to do. So I kind of want to do
- 13:48Speaker 4: that now for him as well. So you know, there's
- 13:51Speaker 4: so many places and so many things that he missed
- 13:53Speaker 4: out on saying that, Like I don't know, I just
- 13:55Speaker 4: want to see it in my own eyes and see
- 13:56Speaker 4: what he missed out.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, totally. All right, let's go to a really quick
- 14:00Speaker 2: break because I still have a lot of questions, and
- 14:03Speaker 2: on the flip side, I want to get more into
- 14:05Speaker 2: exactly what your inheritance is, what investments you have, what
- 14:09Speaker 2: your thoughts on debts are, and I think you might
- 14:10Speaker 2: have some good and bad money habits to share, So
- 14:13Speaker 2: guys don't go anywhere, all right, money direst We are back,
- 14:20Speaker 2: and I want to talk about investing. So you said
- 14:23Speaker 2: in your letter email message whatever, we're going to call
- 14:26Speaker 2: it in. You've got eighty grand of super sis. Just
- 14:30Speaker 2: a quick reminder, you're twenty six. That's actually a lot
- 14:35Speaker 2: of money. So I'm going to need some holes I
- 14:38Speaker 2: think filled in. How do you get eighty grand in
- 14:41Speaker 2: your super by the time you're twenty six.
- 14:43Speaker 4: So I've been working as a public servant, as I
- 14:45Speaker 4: said before, since I was eighteen years old. In my
- 14:48Speaker 4: public service job, we do get a super fifteen point
- 14:51Speaker 4: four percent on top of our salary.
- 14:52Speaker 2: We very nice.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Yeah, And I have obviously worked with a lot of
- 14:57Speaker 4: old time public servants since you're the public service, and
- 15:01Speaker 4: the one thing that they all love is super. Public
- 15:04Speaker 4: servants are obsessed with super. So when I was eighteen
- 15:07Speaker 4: and I first joined, somebody said to me, just put
- 15:09Speaker 4: fifteen or twenty dollars into your super per pey, and
- 15:12Speaker 4: then when you get a promotion, put a little bit more.
- 15:14Speaker 4: And then when you get another promotion, put a little
- 15:16Speaker 4: bit more.
- 15:16Speaker 2: And you're like, yeah, okay, no worries. Thanks for that advice,
- 15:19Speaker 2: because now I've taken it and I look incredible. I've
- 15:22Speaker 2: put on some maths, so, like, just to give a
- 15:24Speaker 2: little bit of context for those following along. If you're
- 15:27Speaker 2: twenty six lack our money diarist, and you're thinking, I
- 15:29Speaker 2: don't have eighty grand. Maybe that's because you're like, probably
- 15:32Speaker 2: not meant to have that much. In fact, the average
- 15:34Speaker 2: superannuation balance for women between the ages of twenty five
- 15:38Speaker 2: and twenty nine is actually twenty three thousand dollars and
- 15:41Speaker 2: for men it's twenty five thousand, four hundred. But money
- 15:45Speaker 2: direst I don't know if you've done this, but I
- 15:46Speaker 2: love a compound interest calculator. I have eighty thousand dollars
- 15:51Speaker 2: in retirement, Like if you retired in thirty years, that's
- 15:54Speaker 2: one point three million dollars, and you are still actively
- 15:57Speaker 2: consistently contributing, like you're gonna be fine and you're going
- 16:01Speaker 2: to travel the world. So I love this.
- 16:04Speaker 4: I do make extra contributions now still though, so currently
- 16:08Speaker 4: I do one hundred and twenty or four nights, so
- 16:10Speaker 4: it's not a huge amount, but it's obviously combounded so
- 16:12Speaker 4: much over the how long I've I've been in the
- 16:15Speaker 4: public service for eight years.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that's wild. I love it. I love the prioritizing
- 16:19Speaker 2: that because it's just setting yourself up for success so
- 16:22Speaker 2: that right now you can enjoy the journey, but also
- 16:24Speaker 2: the journey isn't going to have to end when you
- 16:26Speaker 2: stop working. Tell me about other investments. So you're obviously
- 16:30Speaker 2: making extra contributions to your super but are you investing
- 16:34Speaker 2: in any other way?
- 16:34Speaker 4: Yes, So I currently do have some fun shares as
- 16:37Speaker 4: I call them with shares's, so it's just mixed bags
- 16:40Speaker 4: of companies. I guess it's things that I per shouldn't
- 16:43Speaker 4: listen to other people all the time, but you know,
- 16:46Speaker 4: little things that other people have told me to buy,
- 16:48Speaker 4: or stuff that I've just been kind of interested with.
- 16:52Speaker 4: So I currently have it's about true grand in total
- 16:54Speaker 4: with Telshop, Bank, West Farmers and Sigma Health, which I
- 16:58Speaker 4: bought really cheap, which very lucky.
- 17:00Speaker 2: So you're like, oh, I probably shouldn't listen to anybody,
- 17:02Speaker 2: but you just listed off like four blue chip stocks
- 17:05Speaker 2: that are quite popular in Australia, so like you're not
- 17:08Speaker 2: doing badly, Like I don't know who you've been listening to,
- 17:11Speaker 2: but they know what they're talking about, I think.
- 17:14Speaker 4: And then I also have sixteen thousand in the Vanguard
- 17:17Speaker 4: Australian Shares. How you're on ETF, so I've been putting
- 17:20Speaker 4: into that since COVID.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Oh my god, I'm obsessed. You're doing so well.
- 17:25Speaker 4: I was investing a lot more aggressively. But now as
- 17:28Speaker 4: my life's changed and I've got a mortgage now, and
- 17:32Speaker 4: you know, I guess my priorities have changed. I try
- 17:34Speaker 4: and put about one thousand in every three months or so.
- 17:37Speaker 4: And as a shift worker, like when I get a
- 17:39Speaker 4: big pay with penalties like Easter to pay, Christmas Dale
- 17:42Speaker 4: work Sundays and stuff like that, I try and put
- 17:44Speaker 4: that towards my investing.
- 17:45Speaker 2: I'm obsessed. This is so so good. So tell me
- 17:49Speaker 2: a little bit more. I'm going to get pervy. Now
- 17:51Speaker 2: you are trying to figure out what you do with
- 17:54Speaker 2: an inheritance from your dad. How much was that inheritance?
- 17:58Speaker 2: And like where is your like struggle is it because
- 18:01Speaker 2: you're like, oh, I don't know if I should spend
- 18:02Speaker 2: it on travel or in the sort of like talk
- 18:04Speaker 2: to me about this.
- 18:06Speaker 4: So I received one hundred and thirty five thousand dollars
- 18:09Speaker 4: in inheritance from my father when he passed away.
- 18:11Speaker 2: It's that you're looking up for me and.
- 18:15Speaker 4: I haven't spent a cent and I received this money
- 18:18Speaker 4: almost a year ago.
- 18:19Speaker 2: So where is it sitting right now? Is it a
- 18:21Speaker 2: high indred savings account.
- 18:22Speaker 4: In a high interest savings account. It's currently sitting with
- 18:25Speaker 4: four point nine percent. I know that there's probably better
- 18:28Speaker 4: ways to utilize it, but I think because I got
- 18:31Speaker 4: a different bank account to put it in there and
- 18:33Speaker 4: I haven't touched yet, I feel really funny about it.
- 18:35Speaker 4: I guess it's just and everyone's different. Like all my
- 18:38Speaker 4: siblings and my mom, they've all spent money, they're fine,
- 18:42Speaker 4: my brother started a business, and like, there's so many
- 18:44Speaker 4: amazing things that are happening with my family with that money.
- 18:47Speaker 4: But I guess just the way I viewed it in
- 18:48Speaker 4: comparison to my family has been very different. And obviously
- 18:51Speaker 4: I'm in a privileged position where I don't really need
- 18:53Speaker 4: to spend that money right now. But I guess I
- 18:56Speaker 4: don't want to diss on my dad or do anything
- 18:59Speaker 4: with it that I feel like he wouldn't like, because
- 19:01Speaker 4: at the end of the day, he worked his entire
- 19:03Speaker 4: life for that money and he wasn't able to spend.
- 19:05Speaker 2: It one hundred percent. I need to know more about
- 19:07Speaker 2: your dad. Let's go back. If your dad and you
- 19:11Speaker 2: sat down and had a conversation and you said, Dad,
- 19:15Speaker 2: you've given me one hundred and thirty five grand, Like,
- 19:17Speaker 2: that's wild. What would you want me to do with it?
- 19:20Speaker 2: What do you reckon?
- 19:20Speaker 4: He would say, set yourself up and travel.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Okay, so what would that look like? Because I feel
- 19:25Speaker 2: like you're already on the path for doing that. So
- 19:29Speaker 2: what do you reckon?
- 19:29Speaker 1: He like?
- 19:30Speaker 2: Is he a property man? Is he a shares man?
- 19:33Speaker 2: Is he a just blow it all on travel man?
- 19:36Speaker 4: Like he is a blow it all fun kind of man.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I like that, So like we can kind of not
- 19:43Speaker 2: go wrong when it comes to making decisions, because like,
- 19:46Speaker 2: what if we invested that amount? And I know that
- 19:49Speaker 2: that's a very hard decision to make, and it's definitely
- 19:51Speaker 2: not one especially on one hundred thousand dollars as an
- 19:54Speaker 2: initial deposit you should be making on your own, and
- 19:58Speaker 2: I think you maybe should get advice. But also you're
- 20:01Speaker 2: already investing in ETFs through Vanguard, Like it could be
- 20:05Speaker 2: doing a lot for you, because that one thirty five
- 20:07Speaker 2: by retirement's worth what close to two point five million
- 20:10Speaker 2: dollars if we invest it well, and to honor our dad,
- 20:14Speaker 2: I think we should be looking at what we can
- 20:16Speaker 2: do with those funds on a consistent basis. So like
- 20:19Speaker 2: let's zoom out for a hot second. Talk to me
- 20:22Speaker 2: about life, like you want to travel. You are just
- 20:24Speaker 2: a baby because like to me, anyone under the age
- 20:26Speaker 2: of thirty is still actually a teenager. And I'm pretty
- 20:29Speaker 2: sure there's COVID tax right, So like any age you
- 20:33Speaker 2: grew during COVID doesn't exist anymore. So you said you
- 20:36Speaker 2: moved during twenty twenty lockdown and you were like twenty one.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Baby's still twenty one. It's fine. So tell me about
- 20:44Speaker 2: what the rest of your life looks like. You've got
- 20:46Speaker 2: this very She showed me a photo of her. Was
- 20:48Speaker 2: it fiance? No, not yet, not yet, but he looks
- 20:52Speaker 2: like you could be a fiance. Well, I hope, so
- 20:55Speaker 2: one day is that something that we want to achieve? Like,
- 20:57Speaker 2: talk to me about what life looks like in the
- 20:59Speaker 2: next ten year.
- 21:00Speaker 4: So I don't think children is going to be in
- 21:02Speaker 4: the picture across just a personal thing. We both have
- 21:05Speaker 4: big families and can't wait to be fun. Auntie uncle
- 21:08Speaker 4: which over the black good bring little gifts home to
- 21:10Speaker 4: our nieces and nephews, and we've always spoken about that.
- 21:12Speaker 4: I think housewise, we love our little home. It's easy
- 21:15Speaker 4: to clean, easy to maintain, it's in a great location. Like,
- 21:19Speaker 4: I don't feel like we need anything bigger. I think
- 21:22Speaker 4: for us it would just be to try and maintain
- 21:24Speaker 4: our good dinners, nice cocktails.
- 21:27Speaker 2: I'm so excited for you. Like, don't get me wrong,
- 21:29Speaker 2: I adore being a mum, like I was born to
- 21:31Speaker 2: be a mum. But not everybody wants that. The fact
- 21:34Speaker 2: that you have the let's call it financial freedom right
- 21:37Speaker 2: now to go. I don't want that so any money
- 21:39Speaker 2: I earn right now. I'm not thinking about school fees.
- 21:41Speaker 2: I'm not thinking about child ring. I don't need to
- 21:43Speaker 2: know about this new like getting the bin, Like I
- 21:46Speaker 2: don't care. You can come to brunch with me, you
- 21:48Speaker 2: can drink the mimosa. I'll tell you about my lack
- 21:50Speaker 2: of sleep, and you can empathize with me and then
- 21:53Speaker 2: go on a holiday the next week. I love that
- 21:55Speaker 2: for you. So, like, maybe we need to look at
- 21:58Speaker 2: this inheritance that's making sure that you can continue that lifestyle. Yes,
- 22:03Speaker 2: so if we're investing it in a way that it
- 22:06Speaker 2: has some great returns, that we can then use those
- 22:09Speaker 2: returns to live our life and still go out for
- 22:12Speaker 2: really good dinners. How good's are dinner's on Dad? For
- 22:15Speaker 2: life like that, but like explain it that way, right,
- 22:19Speaker 2: Like if we can reframe it in a way where
- 22:21Speaker 2: it goes Dad's always going to cop our holidays. He
- 22:24Speaker 2: would be so proud.
- 22:26Speaker 4: You'd love it. He'd be so jealous.
- 22:27Speaker 2: That's taking us to Bali, Dad, You're taking us to Asia?
- 22:30Speaker 2: Like he would love that because you know what. I
- 22:34Speaker 2: know you're saying he worked his entire life for that money,
- 22:37Speaker 2: and he did, but now you know what, he can't
- 22:40Speaker 2: be here to enjoy it. The idea that one of
- 22:42Speaker 2: his kids, his only daughter, is going to get set
- 22:45Speaker 2: up to live her best life because he worked so hard.
- 22:48Speaker 2: That's why he did that. Yeah, that's why he did that.
- 22:50Speaker 2: It wasn't so that you can have it inner savings
- 22:52Speaker 2: account and go I don't want to touch it. I
- 22:55Speaker 2: know this man well enough now from this conversation over
- 22:59Speaker 2: a beer, be like, oh, she's just not doing anything
- 23:02Speaker 2: with it.
- 23:03Speaker 4: So would he was not.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Doing anything with it? Like why'd I give her that?
- 23:07Speaker 2: So we need to take action, But also we don't
- 23:11Speaker 2: want to take action so quick that we feel uncomfortable,
- 23:14Speaker 2: Like maybe you can sit on that money and not
- 23:17Speaker 2: touch it for another five years for all I care
- 23:20Speaker 2: but what we want to do is get really comfortable
- 23:22Speaker 2: with that money. Because right now you're telling me that
- 23:24Speaker 2: you're uncomfortable with it. That is okay, that is so fine,
- 23:28Speaker 2: But we need to you know, think about it and
- 23:31Speaker 2: maybe even journal a little about it, Like I want
- 23:33Speaker 2: you to write down why you're so uncomfortable, Like I
- 23:36Speaker 2: get not wanting to make the wrong decision, Like I
- 23:38Speaker 2: don't want to make the wrong decision either, because that
- 23:40Speaker 2: would be heartbreaking, Like you know, I don't want to
- 23:43Speaker 2: extrapolate it out, but like imagine all of that. Then
- 23:46Speaker 2: you make the wrong decision, then you're going to be
- 23:48Speaker 2: feeling trash because you're like, well that was my dad's
- 23:50Speaker 2: Like that wasn't just I saved for my house and
- 23:53Speaker 2: lost some of it. It's more meaningful than that. So
- 23:57Speaker 2: maybe we do need to get advice on this. So
- 24:00Speaker 2: I'm super excited about the journey and any good financial advisor,
- 24:04Speaker 2: and I can set you up with one if you want.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Any good advisor is not going to pressure you, like
- 24:09Speaker 2: they're going to go in your own time. What else
- 24:11Speaker 2: do you need? Like, how else can I support you
- 24:13Speaker 2: so that you're ready, so that you get to a
- 24:15Speaker 2: point where you're like why haven't we invested this yet?
- 24:17Speaker 2: Or why haven't we done that thing that we keep
- 24:19Speaker 2: talking about. That's the point that I want you at
- 24:22Speaker 2: so that you're pushing your advisor. Not your advisor is
- 24:25Speaker 2: like money, dost we have to invest right now, like
- 24:28Speaker 2: you're going to move an opportunity. Any advisor who says
- 24:30Speaker 2: that in the bin, it's graight in the bin.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Like I want to feel excited about honoring him and
- 24:35Speaker 4: using that money. Ba at the moment, I just don't
- 24:37Speaker 4: have that level of confidence with it yet.
- 24:40Speaker 2: No, And like I think that is around education and
- 24:43Speaker 2: sitting with it for a little bit, because like, let's
- 24:45Speaker 2: be honest, like it wasn't that long ago. No, Like
- 24:47Speaker 2: you haven't had the money that long. I think it's
- 24:49Speaker 2: really about just sitting with it and thinking about the
- 24:52Speaker 2: lifestyle that you want to create. If we can get
- 24:54Speaker 2: you excited about that and facilitating that. I think that
- 24:58Speaker 2: really ties in to the I think we really are
- 25:01Speaker 2: honoring this man, like that's pretty cool, and like maybe
- 25:04Speaker 2: you could even have like a little habit or a
- 25:07Speaker 2: little like nod to him every time you go on
- 25:09Speaker 2: a holiday where it's like, all right, well we have
- 25:10Speaker 2: to have the first beer at the bar for him
- 25:13Speaker 2: or something along those lines, which is just both sweet.
- 25:15Speaker 4: I really liked that.
- 25:17Speaker 2: How do we intertwine him into your life so that
- 25:21Speaker 2: you go, nah, I really am honoring this. I am
- 25:23Speaker 2: making the most of this.
- 25:25Speaker 4: Yeah no, that sounds mazey.
- 25:27Speaker 2: So on the flip side, you have a mortgage already
- 25:31Speaker 2: because you've worked your butt off with your partner. Tell
- 25:33Speaker 2: me about how much debt you're in.
- 25:35Speaker 4: So, our mortgage is currently sitting at four hundred and
- 25:38Speaker 4: ninety thousand. We paid five hundred and fifty thousand dollars
- 25:41Speaker 4: for our property and we currently have fifty one and
- 25:44Speaker 4: seventy nine dollars in the offset of the home loan.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Excuse me? What look at you guys? Go? So take
- 25:51Speaker 2: me back. How much money are you earning?
- 25:53Speaker 4: So? I currently my base salary is eighty one thousand,
- 25:56Speaker 4: six hundred dollars. However, with the nature of my work
- 26:00Speaker 4: allowances I receive for different skills and training I have
- 26:02Speaker 4: and shift work including some weekend and interstate trouble, I'm
- 26:06Speaker 4: calculated to make one hundred and ten thousand this financial year.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Okay, baby, queen? Yeah, no, wonder You're like, I don't
- 26:13Speaker 2: need to go to UNI, Like, what are you going
- 26:15Speaker 2: to UNI for? Like, that's a good deal, now, would
- 26:18Speaker 2: it be corrected me to assume that your partner's on
- 26:21Speaker 2: something similar because you said you made it work.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Yes, so my partner works in a government role as well,
- 26:26Speaker 4: similar organization. However, he works away month or month off. Yeah, okay,
- 26:31Speaker 4: which is great for our travel because you don't have
- 26:33Speaker 4: to take annually for us to go overseas. How Yeah,
- 26:37Speaker 4: and his base rage is seventy five thousand, but he
- 26:39Speaker 4: makes between one hundred and twenty and one hundred and thirty
- 26:41Speaker 4: with his penalties.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Oh okay, so we've got a really nice we'd double income,
- 26:45Speaker 2: no kids, household. We're ADNK square deep. I love that
- 26:50Speaker 2: you're like the like icon dink too, because like some
- 26:53Speaker 2: dinks don't have heaps and heaps of cash, but these ones,
- 26:56Speaker 2: these ones are going to be really rich guys. So
- 27:00Speaker 2: I loved this for you. So tell me a little
- 27:03Speaker 2: bit more about the plan to get rid of debt,
- 27:04Speaker 2: Like are you just paying it off and like slowly
- 27:08Speaker 2: slowly because you want to invest because like obviously you've
- 27:10Speaker 2: got your fun shares, You've got your Vanguard ETF, you've
- 27:13Speaker 2: got your super like, what's the plan around debt reduction.
- 27:16Speaker 4: I think at the moment we're kind of just chipping
- 27:19Speaker 4: away because we have other things in the works that
- 27:21Speaker 4: we're saving towards, like figure of trip this year, and
- 27:24Speaker 4: I've got a couple of other smaller trips planned, like
- 27:27Speaker 4: with friends earlier this year as well. But our interest
- 27:30Speaker 4: rate did go down, and we've kept paying the same amount,
- 27:33Speaker 4: plus obviously having the fifty one thousand, and then the
- 27:35Speaker 4: offset is offsetting the mortgage a bit, and we're paying
- 27:38Speaker 4: our minimum repayments still and we pay fortnightly and try
- 27:42Speaker 4: and do those type of things to just chip away
- 27:45Speaker 4: at that little bit quicker.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Yes, smart, And did your interest rate go down because
- 27:49Speaker 2: you're broken negotiated it or was it just one of
- 27:51Speaker 2: those automatic bank ones?
- 27:53Speaker 4: This was one of the automatic bank ones.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Yet sexy though that it's nice that they just pass
- 27:57Speaker 2: it on and you don't even have to lift a finger. Now,
- 28:00Speaker 2: I feel like you've got some good and maybe some
- 28:02Speaker 2: naughty money habits, but like you've earned them, like you've
- 28:05Speaker 2: got good income. Talk to me about what you think
- 28:08Speaker 2: your best money habit is.
- 28:10Speaker 4: My best money habit would be If I want something,
- 28:12Speaker 4: I'll do whatever I can to work towards achieving it.
- 28:17Speaker 4: I think I struggle when I don't have a clear goal,
- 28:19Speaker 4: But if I do have a clear goal, I do
- 28:21Speaker 4: become a bit obsessed with it and lock in. Like
- 28:24Speaker 4: this Europe trip coming up this year, I'd said to myself,
- 28:27Speaker 4: And when I have fifteen thousand dollars for the Europe
- 28:29Speaker 4: trip saved by August and we're sitting at in middle
- 28:33Speaker 4: of April at the moment and I have thirteen and
- 28:35Speaker 4: a half thousand.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Saved, Oh okay, you're like really on track.
- 28:39Speaker 4: So when I really really want something, I feel like
- 28:42Speaker 4: I do whatever I can. I think it's probably my
- 28:45Speaker 4: eighth year as well. Like I get obsessed and hyperfixated,
- 28:49Speaker 4: and then I guess. The other really great money habit
- 28:52Speaker 4: that I have is we love going out to eat.
- 28:54Speaker 4: We love going out for drinks, so we use like
- 28:56Speaker 4: a lot of eat Club and First Table.
- 28:58Speaker 2: I was talking about these today with my team. They're good.
- 29:02Speaker 4: Hey, all of those things to get you know, cheaper meals.
- 29:06Speaker 4: Like well, if I have to go to dinner at
- 29:07Speaker 4: six instead of seven and I'm paying fifty percent.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Off, I don't care, and you're going home and you're
- 29:11Speaker 2: getting in bed and reading your book early, like exactly
- 29:14Speaker 2: say Less, like I feel like COVID Really it didn't
- 29:18Speaker 2: do it so dirty, Like obviously I didn't love COVID,
- 29:20Speaker 2: but it really did teach me that I actually do
- 29:23Speaker 2: like being at home, Like I like going out, but
- 29:26Speaker 2: I don't want an eight pm dinner booking oh six.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Pm dinner and like two cocktails after bed.
- 29:31Speaker 2: By nine pm, you're like home, You're feeling nice and
- 29:35Speaker 2: warm from the two cocktails. It's eight thirty nine o'clock,
- 29:38Speaker 2: we're having in everything, shower, we're going to bed. We
- 29:42Speaker 2: still have a day ahead of us tomorrow. We don't
- 29:44Speaker 2: need to sleep in, like say Less, that is.
- 29:46Speaker 4: The dream, and I can still wake up and go
- 29:48Speaker 4: to plarties in the morning without being hver.
- 29:50Speaker 2: She's living her best life literally, So talk to me
- 29:53Speaker 2: a little bit more about how you're able to lock in,
- 29:56Speaker 2: because I think so many people with ADHD we really
- 30:00Speaker 2: around goal setting and actually achieving things. What do you
- 30:04Speaker 2: think of secret sources when it comes to actually being
- 30:08Speaker 2: able to achieve those goals?
- 30:10Speaker 4: I think if I have something already booked or planned,
- 30:12Speaker 4: it's like, well, I have to do it now. So
- 30:15Speaker 4: if I just say, oh, I'm going to Europe and
- 30:17Speaker 4: I don't have anything planned. I don't have tickets booked
- 30:19Speaker 4: or and you'll leave booked or anything like that. I
- 30:22Speaker 4: probably wouldn't be able to save like that. But the
- 30:24Speaker 4: day in my brain, I go, oh my god, I'm
- 30:27Speaker 4: going to Europe. And then the things that I do.
- 30:29Speaker 4: I put the countries that I'm going to. I'll put
- 30:31Speaker 4: it on my screen saver, put it on my phone
- 30:33Speaker 4: as a like on thing, put it on a vision board.
- 30:36Speaker 4: I talk about it with people in this Europe trip
- 30:38Speaker 4: that I've got going on.
- 30:39Speaker 2: So I guess it just becomes cutting a personality, takes
- 30:42Speaker 2: over my every thought.
- 30:43Speaker 4: So then I have to do it.
- 30:45Speaker 2: No, I like it. I am a bit the same.
- 30:48Speaker 2: I need a deadline.
- 30:49Speaker 4: There's no smart way about it. I just obsess.
- 30:52Speaker 2: So tell me about your worst money have it.
- 30:53Speaker 4: I forget to do a lot of things, so my
- 30:56Speaker 4: direct debits, my money is literally everywhere still as much
- 30:59Speaker 4: as it. I like, am even talking to you, like,
- 31:00Speaker 4: I go, oh my gosh, I've done so much. But
- 31:03Speaker 4: my money system I don't really have a plan set out.
- 31:08Speaker 4: I forget to set up direct debts, I forget to
- 31:10Speaker 4: cancel subscriptions shoot to my ADHD. I often end up
- 31:13Speaker 4: paying for multiple streaming services at once that I forget.
- 31:16Speaker 4: Two weeks ago, I sent Hello Fresh Animal Spoon to
- 31:19Speaker 4: our house on the same day.
- 31:20Speaker 2: Oh good, you can play them stay each other.
- 31:24Speaker 4: Yeah, and then a little drinking game up I downloaded
- 31:27Speaker 4: the other day on my phone, which was free for
- 31:29Speaker 4: three days.
- 31:30Speaker 2: But it was only free for three days. But now
- 31:32Speaker 2: you've paid for more than three days.
- 31:33Speaker 4: Yeah, so twenty dollars yeap. So I just feel like
- 31:37Speaker 4: it's organized payoffs.
- 31:39Speaker 2: So this is where kids might come in handy. So
- 31:41Speaker 2: I think maybe in this case you need to have
- 31:43Speaker 2: an imaginary child because then and I didn't tell you this,
- 31:46Speaker 2: then you can like message the subscriber and say my
- 31:49Speaker 2: kids did this, and they usually refund it.
- 31:52Speaker 4: That's incredible.
- 31:54Speaker 2: So you could have a fake kid. So maybe you
- 31:56Speaker 2: do want kids after all. You know, never know fake one,
- 31:59Speaker 2: no fake one. You don't have to have a real one.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Like I'm never going to try and convince you otherwise,
- 32:03Speaker 2: but like maybe you message them and be like, oh,
- 32:05Speaker 2: my kid did it. It was not my kid, it
- 32:07Speaker 2: was me. I'm my kid.
- 32:10Speaker 4: I'm gonna try that next time.
- 32:12Speaker 2: I thing you messaged me and tell me if it worked,
- 32:14Speaker 2: because almost guaranteed you'll be like, oh sorry, my kid
- 32:18Speaker 2: downloaded that and I had no idea. They're like, yeah, sorry,
- 32:21Speaker 2: no worries, just delete the app and then they refund
- 32:23Speaker 2: you the money.
- 32:23Speaker 4: That is absolutely kind.
- 32:25Speaker 2: I would never I would never tell you to do that.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Money diarist. At the start of this episode, I said,
- 32:32Speaker 2: what do you reckon is your money score? And you said,
- 32:34Speaker 2: I reckon, I'm a BNS. I don't know what's it
- 32:37Speaker 2: going to take for you to get to an A plus,
- 32:40Speaker 2: Like what would that involve? Because, like, girl, I don't
- 32:42Speaker 2: know how to tell you this. You're twenty six, You've
- 32:44Speaker 2: got so much money in super you have your first home,
- 32:46Speaker 2: you have like fifty one thousand dollars sitting in an offset.
- 32:50Speaker 2: You are adding more to your superranuation consistently. You were like,
- 32:54Speaker 2: I have a few fun shares and I was like, oh,
- 32:55Speaker 2: that makes sense, But then you dropped I've got sixteen
- 32:58Speaker 2: grand in an ETF Like, what isn't a plus in
- 33:02Speaker 2: your mind?
- 33:03Speaker 4: I think because I'm so organized, I'm organized chaos. I
- 33:06Speaker 4: think that's how I am in every aspect of my life.
- 33:09Speaker 4: And I feel like that does come towards I can
- 33:12Speaker 4: tell that with the way that I handle my money
- 33:14Speaker 4: as well. So I think if I was more organized
- 33:18Speaker 4: and I kind of knew exactly where my money was
- 33:20Speaker 4: going instead of just throwing it around like I tend
- 33:23Speaker 4: to do, it's worked out so far. But I don't
- 33:26Speaker 4: know that's so good.
- 33:27Speaker 2: I can't fault you.
- 33:30Speaker 4: But I think I get really anxious over that that
- 33:33Speaker 4: I know that it's organized chaos and that things aren't
- 33:35Speaker 4: exactly where they maybe should be or working in the
- 33:39Speaker 4: exact way to kind of like working in its best form.
- 33:43Speaker 4: So I think that's why I wouldn't maybe B plus.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Well, I reckon I can get you to an A plus.
- 33:50Speaker 2: I'm going to set you up with a log into
- 33:52Speaker 2: my money master class because that was written by an
- 33:55Speaker 2: Adhd Girly for everyone, but I promised, like it's like
- 34:00Speaker 2: when you look at this, you'll be like, oh that
- 34:01Speaker 2: makes sense. Not only is it pretty, so you'll want
- 34:04Speaker 2: to fill it in like she looks aesthetic. It has
- 34:07Speaker 2: a section for everything, and then it automatically calculates everything
- 34:10Speaker 2: for you. So like there's not a lot of work,
- 34:12Speaker 2: but a lot of dopamine gets used in this process
- 34:16Speaker 2: because like you feel like you've done a lot when
- 34:18Speaker 2: you haven't done a lot, and we love that. So
- 34:20Speaker 2: I'm going to give you access to that so that
- 34:22Speaker 2: you can do it. But it will be able to
- 34:24Speaker 2: track everything and then it will say, all right, well
- 34:26Speaker 2: this amount or this percentage of your spending is going
- 34:29Speaker 2: to this, this percentage your spending is going to that.
- 34:31Speaker 2: It'll give you like savings trackers so you can put
- 34:34Speaker 2: your holidays in, and it also get this, I've added
- 34:38Speaker 2: in a mortgage repayment calculator so you can pop your
- 34:41Speaker 2: mortgage in your interest rate, and then you can play
- 34:43Speaker 2: around with how long it will take you to pay
- 34:45Speaker 2: off if you make extra contributions or not. And it's
- 34:47Speaker 2: all in the one thing. So I'm going to set
- 34:50Speaker 2: you up and then I think you'll message me and
- 34:51Speaker 2: be like, b I am actually a plus now, and
- 34:53Speaker 2: I'll be like, I know, babe, I.
- 34:55Speaker 4: Know that's amazing. I think it's just yeah, it's so
- 34:57Speaker 4: overwhelming to even.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Kind of it's hard. Yeah, yeah, and you just don't
- 35:01Speaker 2: know where to start. If you don't know where to start,
- 35:03Speaker 2: but that I think will literally also tell you which
- 35:06Speaker 2: bank accounts you need, so you've already got them all
- 35:09Speaker 2: set up. You could just rejig the ones you have
- 35:11Speaker 2: and use them in different ways. I promise you. I
- 35:13Speaker 2: think you'll be really clear on it. Anyway, That is
- 35:16Speaker 2: so good. I wish we had so much more time
- 35:18Speaker 2: because I have loved having this conversation. I feel like
- 35:22Speaker 2: you and I are on exactly the same page. So
- 35:24Speaker 2: if ever we cross paths, I think we would yap
- 35:26Speaker 2: until the cows came home. But sadly we have run
- 35:30Speaker 2: out of time. Money, Doris, this has been a pleasure.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Thank you so much for sharing your journey and telling
- 35:34Speaker 2: me a little bit about your dad, Like how good
- 35:36Speaker 2: to learn about him and what he would want for you. Like,
- 35:39Speaker 2: that's just really special that you've opened up and shared
- 35:41Speaker 2: that journey with me. So I'm really grateful, and I
- 35:43Speaker 2: know that everyone listening is going to be like, yeah,
- 35:45Speaker 2: this was a really good diary, so I really appreciate it.
