- 0:02Speaker 1: Life Audio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Today, I'll talk about that John wishes his girls would
- 0:08Speaker 2: get ready faster and writes a children's book about a fish. Meanwhile,
- 0:12Speaker 2: I think March has the most violent holidays, and reveal
- 0:15Speaker 2: why I never really.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Liked the Power Team.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Pl us a conversation about how we think God sees
- 0:20Speaker 3: us and why it really matters. Today's episode is not
- 0:23Speaker 3: sponsored by Android phones turning your text threads green since
- 0:26Speaker 3: two thousand and eight. But first a word from our
- 0:28Speaker 3: actual sponsor.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Episode four hundred of talk about that. Jana Bey said
- 0:40Speaker 2: it couldn't be done.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Nobody said that. People have been really supportive. Yeah, maybe
- 0:45Speaker 1: for you.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Somebody gets more fan mail than somebody else. Probably we
- 0:50Speaker 2: got a couple to this week. We need to read them.
- 0:53Speaker 3: We didn't get We got a couple of things. Uh, yeah,
- 0:56Speaker 3: we can find John. You effort that, Yeah, anyone is that?
- 1:00Speaker 3: Now you're efforting That's what we say. Now we're efforting that.
- 1:04Speaker 3: I've heard that on the Dan Patrick Show when they're
- 1:05Speaker 3: talking about trying to get a guest, we're efforting him.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I like that. Uh. We did hear from Becca Jones
- 1:11Speaker 2: who said asked if every thought about writing a children's book?
- 1:14Speaker 2: You know, Becka, I have written a children's book with Ai. No, no,
- 1:18Speaker 2: it was long before the days of Ai.
- 1:21Speaker 1: You will.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Send me your address and I'm going to mail you
- 1:24Speaker 2: one was it was never it was never published, per se.
- 1:28Speaker 1: It was made. It was made.
- 1:31Speaker 2: We made it and used it here at the church.
- 1:33Speaker 2: And it's like doctor Sussian style. It's called a little
- 1:36Speaker 2: fish named Nelly. Yeah, and it rhymes the whole way through.
- 1:40Speaker 2: So and hey, I will say this, Becca, it's got
- 1:43Speaker 2: a big surprise.
- 1:44Speaker 1: At the end.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Oh, I think you're gonna you're not going to see
- 1:47Speaker 3: it coming. I think it's great. Yeah, it is a
- 1:49Speaker 3: good book.
- 1:51Speaker 2: You know. Every time I've read to a few publishers,
- 1:52Speaker 2: we've been close a couple of times.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:54Speaker 2: The last one say it was too didactic. Okay, they
- 1:58Speaker 2: thought I taught too much of a lesson. It was
- 2:00Speaker 2: like it's a children's too obvious. No, that was obvious.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Maybe I had it at the end. So that's the
- 2:06Speaker 2: true story of a fish name Nelly. Wh blah blah
- 2:08Speaker 2: blah blah blah blah blah.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Oh but that would you adjust it now and you'd
- 2:12Speaker 1: be like less uh didacting? Yeah?
- 2:14Speaker 2: No, I think I think you really like saying that.
- 2:17Speaker 2: I think I think that the publisher was wrong. Sometimes
- 2:21Speaker 2: I don't believe I've never really publisher for not wanting
- 2:23Speaker 2: to publish on my books.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Right, I don't have to. They get the business whoever
- 2:26Speaker 1: they want to.
- 2:27Speaker 2: That's right, and they're probably right that I can't whatever
- 2:30Speaker 2: you know, sell a million copies or whatever. But do
- 2:33Speaker 2: I think they're always right about their feedback? Even my
- 2:35Speaker 2: agent thought they were wrong on that feedback.
- 2:37Speaker 3: So well, I mean, your agent's in your employee to
- 2:41Speaker 3: pump you up and lie to you.
- 2:43Speaker 1: You think, yeah, hey, uh no, that's wrong. You're the greatest.
- 2:50Speaker 1: They just don't know you're only paid ten percent.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah, anyway, thank you Bega for that. Also, Johnny, they're
- 2:58Speaker 2: coming to your Funny Bumm show in Saint Louis.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Oh, that'll be great. That's gonna be a good one. Yeah,
- 3:02Speaker 1: it's her husband's birthday. I'm excited about that. Yeah.
- 3:05Speaker 3: The Funny Bone. I've been doing a lot of the
- 3:07Speaker 3: Funny Bones. We've talked about comedy club names. That's one
- 3:10Speaker 3: of the ones that's endured. Funny There used to be
- 3:13Speaker 3: like a hundred funny Bones.
- 3:14Speaker 2: I think there's like twenty or twenty lost skeleton like
- 3:18Speaker 2: I can't remember.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Some of them just have like a blue text logo.
- 3:21Speaker 3: Some of them have like a funny little looks like
- 3:23Speaker 3: a little he's wearing a top hat.
- 3:25Speaker 1: He looks more like a kidney bean. What is it?
- 3:28Speaker 3: It's like an elbow, I guess, so it's like a
- 3:30Speaker 3: Maybe he's an elbow, but he looks like a I
- 3:33Speaker 3: could show it to you.
- 3:34Speaker 1: We'll put it. I'll have Adam drop it in the
- 3:36Speaker 1: kidney bean. With that, however, one.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Of our our guy who posts these, Adam Bush, I'll
- 3:41Speaker 3: have him post the photo of the funny moon top.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Petty's tipping them. Sounds like the Planter's peanut guy. He is.
- 3:47Speaker 3: He does look a little, but I think he's a
- 3:49Speaker 3: I think he's kidney bean shape because it's the joint
- 3:51Speaker 3: of your elbow.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Now that I think about it.
- 3:53Speaker 2: See that's being too literal to the name. Yeah, I
- 3:55Speaker 2: don't think we're literally having to hit the funny bone.
- 3:58Speaker 2: And does any other nerves or place in your body
- 4:01Speaker 2: do what the funny bone.
- 4:03Speaker 3: In your I wonder what the first person hit his
- 4:04Speaker 3: funny moone thought was happening.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I thought, I'm dying. Yeah, this is it my arm
- 4:09Speaker 2: is now completely useless to me for a few seconds. Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 2: it's kind of like an ice cream headache. They probably
- 4:15Speaker 2: thought of sometimes some religious implication too. They probably thought
- 4:17Speaker 2: it was like God's punishing this.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Yeah, our crops are going to die now because of
- 4:21Speaker 3: the Yeah, have you ever I mean a brain freeze?
- 4:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean if you didn't know, I mean, I've had.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Some brains, would think you would think, yeah, yah, I'm
- 4:30Speaker 2: a stroke because it hurts really, really bad, and then
- 4:34Speaker 2: you go, I mightna have one more bite.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Like it's funny that it's not enough to stop it,
- 4:37Speaker 1: to slow down, but I can't. Yeah, it's too good.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Our longtime listener Collect Groves also email said, Johnny, you're
- 4:44Speaker 2: correct that March fourteenth is a thing.
- 4:46Speaker 1: It's Pie Day three points oh, because I thought it was.
- 4:50Speaker 3: I thought it was Saint Patrick's maybe, and you were like,
- 4:52Speaker 3: are you an idiot?
- 4:53Speaker 1: Patrick's She was. She was trying to defend me, even
- 4:55Speaker 1: though there's a lot happening in March.
- 4:57Speaker 2: By the way, you get Pie Day followed by the
- 4:58Speaker 2: IDEs of March, Yeah, followed by Saint Patrick's Day?
- 5:02Speaker 1: Did you wear green?
- 5:03Speaker 2: It is you're either stabbing a pie or you're stabbing Caesar.
- 5:06Speaker 2: All right, come on, guys, come on, now you're stabbing something.
- 5:10Speaker 2: You're gonna say you're stabbing an irishman or something, but
- 5:12Speaker 2: that you're pinching, you're stabbing, You're you're forking a pie. Yeah,
- 5:17Speaker 2: it's a lot going on going on. Although she also
- 5:20Speaker 2: wished to safe dwelling.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Oh that's nice. So yeah, she's happy. And then she
- 5:25Speaker 3: came back and said, I I'm meant to stay safe.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I appreciate that because I wanted to catch on. I
- 5:30Speaker 2: think safe dwelling. I'm gonna start signing off emails soon
- 5:32Speaker 2: offecially Yeah, John driver dot com. It sounds like a
- 5:36Speaker 2: Mark Twain kind of thing.
- 5:38Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. It sounds like a bunker.
- 5:41Speaker 2: It sounds like you're in some kind of a you know,
- 5:43Speaker 2: you've gone down to the cellar.
- 5:45Speaker 1: You've seen these videos on Instagram where they're all.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Sped up like this guy takes It would take weeks,
- 5:54Speaker 2: but the guy takes like a back hoe, digs out
- 5:57Speaker 2: a hole and then drops a just has a crane
- 6:01Speaker 2: drop like a shipping container, and then you see him
- 6:05Speaker 2: really fast. He just you know, takes it takes some
- 6:08Speaker 2: sort of grinder cuts off the top of it, gets inside,
- 6:11Speaker 2: the camera comes inside.
- 6:12Speaker 1: He puts down studs.
- 6:14Speaker 2: And builds a wall, makes this whole underground thing with
- 6:16Speaker 2: a tunnel.
- 6:17Speaker 1: To go through. Have you seen that?
- 6:18Speaker 2: No?
- 6:18Speaker 3: But I know people are doing that, and I wonder
- 6:20Speaker 3: like is it for real? Like how do you ventilate it?
- 6:23Speaker 1: Like?
- 6:23Speaker 2: What are we? Well, it feels like that's a coffin.
- 6:25Speaker 2: You've made yourself a coffin. It has a thing you
- 6:27Speaker 2: have to crawl down into him, assuming ventilation comes because
- 6:30Speaker 2: it's to the top.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Another one that guy did underneath his pool, put on
- 6:34Speaker 2: glass and so you could swim over the top. Oh,
- 6:36Speaker 2: now like that, I think that might have been AI.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Don't you hate it that you can't just like anymore?
- 6:42Speaker 2: Especially dog videos. Pet videos almost always are AI.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Now you're like, oh, that dog seems so human. You're like, yeah,
- 6:47Speaker 3: that's because it's a prompt.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Have you seen the one where the dog is always
- 6:51Speaker 2: saving the baby from an alligator or a grizzly bear
- 6:53Speaker 2: in the backyard.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Hm hmm, it's AI. Well, it has to be how
- 6:58Speaker 1: many of those in a row?
- 6:59Speaker 2: It's always it's always like, I don't know way fully
- 7:03Speaker 2: that's got tone it's like the dog loving the baby
- 7:05Speaker 2: kind of thing.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Right, But it's a grizzly.
- 7:08Speaker 2: First of all, these parents, you're leaving this lay, this
- 7:12Speaker 2: month old just out in the yard next to the woods,
- 7:17Speaker 2: and alligators don't come out of the woods generally.
- 7:20Speaker 1: It's very Yeah, it's not. But the dog. I don't
- 7:22Speaker 1: know a lot about nature. Dog always saves the baby.
- 7:24Speaker 1: But I've never been high king. It have been like
- 7:25Speaker 1: watch for Gators.
- 7:28Speaker 2: How long until the algorithm just starts building its own videos?
- 7:31Speaker 1: Oh no, maybe it's already doing it. That's what we
- 7:34Speaker 1: h Yeah, instead of someone else doing it. Here's the thing.
- 7:37Speaker 1: If you're watching our video, you know it's not AI.
- 7:40Speaker 1: No way we would make ourselves. We would soup it
- 7:42Speaker 1: up more.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Yeah, we have such authenticity. That'll be the way. You know,
- 7:45Speaker 2: it's like a grizzly coming into the room and mauling me.
- 7:48Speaker 2: We're gonna start going down to like seven twenty three
- 7:50Speaker 2: sixty and start to start getting lesser videos so people
- 7:53Speaker 2: will think that they're not AI or no.
- 7:56Speaker 1: The graininess is going to tell you what you need
- 7:58Speaker 1: to know. We'll be using VHS tapes again.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Then AI learned that and it's like, oh, so the
- 8:02Speaker 3: graininess will fool them.
- 8:05Speaker 1: It's already doing that.
- 8:06Speaker 3: Remember in video was like tracking, So that was the
- 8:08Speaker 3: thing in VHS world where you had the lines across
- 8:11Speaker 3: the thing, just the tracking.
- 8:12Speaker 1: That's right, remember that, I do. We're so old, We're
- 8:15Speaker 1: so old.
- 8:16Speaker 3: It's okay, John, I want to propose a question to
- 8:19Speaker 3: you because I think it's important, okay, before we go
- 8:21Speaker 3: to the break, and that is I saw an article
- 8:25Speaker 3: and I thought this can't be real, and it ended
- 8:27Speaker 3: up being a satire paper. But it was about how
- 8:31Speaker 3: if you sneeze more than twice, you're basically an unstable person.
- 8:35Speaker 3: You're doing it for attention. This person was like saying, like,
- 8:38Speaker 3: I've never sneezed more.
- 8:39Speaker 2: That's enough to clear whatever is in your Yeah, you know,
- 8:42Speaker 2: nasal passages.
- 8:44Speaker 3: And Curry goes, no, there's an article about it. There
- 8:46Speaker 3: was a study and then I read and I go, Kray,
- 8:48Speaker 3: this is satire. But it was very easy. She was saying,
- 8:51Speaker 3: well he was, you know, and I said, well, okay,
- 8:53Speaker 3: sure this person wrote this. That's the thing, like, I
- 8:56Speaker 3: think we're losing the ability as a culture to understand
- 9:00Speaker 3: what is satire because we want to be enraged so much.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Curry wasn't Curry. I'm on your side here. I don't
- 9:07Speaker 1: know what he's talking about.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Curry wanted me to make sure and say that she
- 9:10Speaker 3: was not fooled by this thing. But she was just saying, no,
- 9:12Speaker 3: it is an article, and I go, no, I give
- 9:14Speaker 3: you it was an article.
- 9:15Speaker 2: But I just think the article was written while you
- 9:17Speaker 2: were berating your wife. Yeah, tell me what was going
- 9:20Speaker 2: through your head at the time. Five sneezes in a row.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Evidently because I was defensive immediately, because I'm definitely a
- 9:27Speaker 3: series sneezer.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Yes, it takes me eight. Yeah, it's quite time. But
- 9:31Speaker 2: they're not real sneezes. They're like and they're not letting
- 9:34Speaker 2: them out. That's the problem.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Then usually by the end, I go, I have to
- 9:38Speaker 3: throw in one of those, like a quick.
- 9:40Speaker 1: It clears the yeah, because you just go, I gotta
- 9:43Speaker 1: get more air.
- 9:44Speaker 2: See people like you that kind of hold in the
- 9:45Speaker 2: sneeze though, that's not a sneeze to me. Everyone in
- 9:50Speaker 2: the house, here's it.
- 9:50Speaker 1: You know, I'm a screen sneezer.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Well, how many do you think, Like, if you're on
- 9:54Speaker 3: a plane, how many do you look over and.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Go all right?
- 9:56Speaker 2: That was enough? That's why to me, I put in headphones. Okay,
- 10:01Speaker 2: so so you don't know.
- 10:02Speaker 3: You just feel droplets landing on you, and that's when
- 10:05Speaker 3: you know. But it's enough when there's flotsam and jets
- 10:08Speaker 3: coming your way.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I will say this, My wife has been yawning very
- 10:13Speaker 1: loudly lately. You allowed to screaming on her. She was like, well,
- 10:17Speaker 1: she's really tired. It's like so, it's like a cowardly lion.
- 10:23Speaker 1: It's very put him up, put him up. It's a
- 10:26Speaker 1: very oh. I always know.
- 10:29Speaker 3: She's really those old fifties movies where the guy ans
- 10:31Speaker 3: the phony and.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Go, yes, I like that guy. I don't know who
- 10:36Speaker 1: that guy was, but yeah, yeah, I like that guy. Yeah.
- 10:39Speaker 3: But there's a yawn like that where you just go
- 10:43Speaker 3: that is probably for attention. I don't think it's a
- 10:45Speaker 3: social cue.
- 10:46Speaker 1: There.
- 10:46Speaker 2: See again you now you're coming at your wife, and
- 10:48Speaker 2: my wife like, hey, Laura, I love the yawn.
- 10:51Speaker 1: I think it's cute.
- 10:52Speaker 2: I hope you keep doing it for the rest of
- 10:54Speaker 2: our lives, which I hope you'll stay married.
- 10:56Speaker 1: To me a lot longer.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Dude, I'm twenty six years in almost Yeah, there's no
- 11:02Speaker 2: going back now, No there's not like she's gonna have
- 11:04Speaker 2: to just stick this out.
- 11:05Speaker 1: That's true. Yeah, I mean, what are you going to start?
- 11:08Speaker 2: She could find another guy, get him ready to whittle
- 11:12Speaker 2: down his personality to whatever she's done to you.
- 11:14Speaker 1: There's no way. It's too much of a project.
- 11:18Speaker 2: I'll say, I feel my personality is improved because of her.
- 11:22Speaker 1: But I do think I do think it took her
- 11:24Speaker 1: some time.
- 11:24Speaker 3: It's been whittled. Uh, that's okay, you're a wittleman. Let
- 11:28Speaker 3: me say this, John, you're uh. Let's take a minute though.
- 11:31Speaker 1: First. I got a whole lot to get into here,
- 11:34Speaker 1: not your personality.
- 11:34Speaker 2: But first, let's take a minute in here from a
- 11:37Speaker 2: few of our find sponsors.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Okay, do your worst.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Okay, let me just say, first of all, you're doing
- 11:51Speaker 3: boll ball this weekend, right, I have a tournament in
- 11:54Speaker 3: Saint Louis, Indianapolis, Indianapolis. Okay, well that's a good place
- 11:58Speaker 3: to go or stuff to do that. But do you
- 12:00Speaker 3: all even have time now? Y'all don't get to see anything.
- 12:03Speaker 3: It's just volleyball from noon to night.
- 12:05Speaker 1: I think we would be on the court like seven am.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Oh no, yeah, on the court, which means you have
- 12:10Speaker 2: to leave the UPO.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the other day.
- 12:13Speaker 2: We were in Eastern time zone as times sprung forward,
- 12:17Speaker 2: so we lost two hours. Do the girls still get
- 12:20Speaker 2: up and like get ready, like they're going out out
- 12:22Speaker 2: even though they're going to get sweaty? Or she she
- 12:24Speaker 2: did just pull her hair back and go no, wow,
- 12:26Speaker 2: she does make make makeup. Yeah, she has a hair
- 12:30Speaker 2: routine for volleyball, but it's still Yeah, it has to
- 12:33Speaker 2: be pulled back. Yes, it's not like she's just curling it.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Does any Are there any volleyball players in history that
- 12:38Speaker 3: have worn their hair down? I would want to see
- 12:40Speaker 3: this just watching it, just toss. I don't know either
- 12:43Speaker 3: and thither maybe some have short hair. If you had
- 12:45Speaker 3: short hair, yeah, baby, but I want to see that.
- 12:48Speaker 3: I want to see like the wild it'd be like
- 12:51Speaker 3: a head banging because the volleyball is a lot of movement.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Yeah, it's uh, there's a lot going on, but they
- 12:59Speaker 2: do it.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I see, I could be out the door.
- 13:01Speaker 2: It's frustrating, I'm sure for everyone else because I could
- 13:04Speaker 2: be ready and you know, three.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Minutes for Yeah. Yeah, I can get ready pretty quick.
- 13:08Speaker 1: But no, listen, my daughter is not the fastest at
- 13:13Speaker 1: getting ready.
- 13:13Speaker 2: She's even top five though she's not going to make
- 13:16Speaker 2: regionals volleyball. They might, but not not in getting ready fast.
- 13:20Speaker 2: So what I mean, let's talk about it. I'm not
- 13:22Speaker 2: trying to get battle the sexes here, but women take
- 13:25Speaker 2: longer to get ready. But I will say I'm trying
- 13:27Speaker 2: to defend here. There is an expectation of beauty on
- 13:30Speaker 2: women that men don't share. And so like, if we go, God,
- 13:34Speaker 2: if you would just be get ready quicker, but then
- 13:36Speaker 2: would we be the same guys that are.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Like Jesus, put some effort in. I would not be
- 13:40Speaker 1: that guy. That's what I'm saying. You would just be
- 13:41Speaker 1: great with it.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Yeah, if your wife just came out in sweats and
- 13:44Speaker 3: no makeup, you'd be like, you're ready, let's go.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Let's go okay, Because I'm just.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Saying like I'm trying to defend the women here and
- 13:52Speaker 2: say it's harder for them. There's an expectation of like
- 13:55Speaker 2: there's a standard that's put on them that's not put
- 13:57Speaker 2: on men. We can be sloves, we can be I
- 13:58Speaker 2: can put on a ball cap, but if Laura wore
- 14:01Speaker 2: a ball cap everywhere, eventually you'd.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Be like, babe, you've let yourself go. I wouldn't do that.
- 14:05Speaker 1: You wouldn't. No, Okay, I'm not going to be trapped.
- 14:09Speaker 1: I'm not trapping you.
- 14:10Speaker 3: I'm saying I'm signing with the women that they're danged
- 14:13Speaker 3: if they do, danged if they don't.
- 14:15Speaker 1: I will agree.
- 14:16Speaker 3: You're either yelled at forgetting taking too long to get ready,
- 14:19Speaker 3: or you're kind of like marginalized for being like, oh well, okay,
- 14:24Speaker 3: she's a plane Jane, she didn't whatever.
- 14:26Speaker 2: I will say, like, if she has to get ready
- 14:27Speaker 2: for an on camera meeting, she has a lot more
- 14:29Speaker 2: pressure than I have to do, so right I did. Now,
- 14:33Speaker 2: my pressure comes in spurts because like the other day,
- 14:37Speaker 2: I can't say who were where? Yeah, boy, here we
- 14:40Speaker 2: go John with his super secret cloak and dagger meetings.
- 14:43Speaker 2: What I had to go to it? It was a
- 14:45Speaker 2: it was a major meeting. Like it was a major
- 14:47Speaker 2: meeting at a major place.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I'll just put it that way. Okay, but major money.
- 14:54Speaker 1: But I realized, like I have, but you guys are
- 14:58Speaker 1: be hearing a noise right now. Were I sore up
- 15:01Speaker 1: and down.
- 15:01Speaker 3: The way that the noise will pick up because they're
- 15:03Speaker 3: working on the h VAC at the church. Above us,
- 15:06Speaker 3: and now it feels like there's a drone fire over.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I think they're grinding something or sawing through the floor,
- 15:11Speaker 2: which is the first time they've done that.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Bugs Bunny Cartoon. In a minute, one is going to
- 15:15Speaker 3: fall through like a circle.
- 15:16Speaker 2: So you hear that, which was probably very slight to you,
- 15:19Speaker 2: but it's really loud that.
- 15:21Speaker 1: I want you to know. You don't don't adjust that
- 15:23Speaker 1: dial that's happening.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Don't you change that station, don't go to a better podcast.
- 15:28Speaker 2: But like I was, like, I wanted to do with
- 15:31Speaker 2: the whole stereotypical guy thing, but look, I'm just gonna
- 15:34Speaker 2: throw on some whatever.
- 15:35Speaker 1: And my wife and I was very tired.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I came home and she didn't even said, hey, don't
- 15:39Speaker 2: wait because the meeting was on Thursday morning. She's like,
- 15:41Speaker 2: don't wait till Wednesday night. Yeah, for us to go
- 15:43Speaker 2: find you a sport code or something.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Oh, you don't have a sport coat. You could just
- 15:47Speaker 1: have a sport coat. It doesn't fit right now, boy. Yeah,
- 15:51Speaker 1: And so I have an interview. You're just kind of
- 15:53Speaker 1: in person.
- 15:54Speaker 2: In personally, I have another one, but it's old and
- 15:57Speaker 2: it would fit, but it's old. It's like an old
- 15:59Speaker 2: suit it. She's like, you can tell that's a suit jacket.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It's got three buttons, and you know that doesn't so anyway,
- 16:06Speaker 2: that's not the style, man, apparently not. I don't know
- 16:08Speaker 2: what the style. It's coming back double breasted. So reluctantly
- 16:12Speaker 2: we went, do you go get things? And and I
- 16:17Speaker 2: was so glad that she but I thought how much
- 16:18Speaker 2: pressure she has to be under all the time.
- 16:21Speaker 1: So I went and.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Bought a couple of suit coat. There's a couple of
- 16:23Speaker 2: sports codes because I got to.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Go back a couple look at you, but man, I
- 16:27Speaker 3: got to have a backup. But there was half off,
- 16:30Speaker 3: not tear one. And also I hope to lose some weight.
- 16:33Speaker 3: That would be helpflucky.
- 16:33Speaker 2: So you got a gold coaste, see I said, the
- 16:35Speaker 2: one from Good Morning America. Yeah, and so that's that's
- 16:38Speaker 2: that's the one. The war with a hoodie like Michael Strahan.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I did wear it like Michael Strahan was my camp
- 16:44Speaker 1: for sure.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Of course we knew that he looked at it was
- 16:46Speaker 2: like this, two guys are let me just say this John.
- 16:49Speaker 3: My weekend was pretty interesting. I did pretty much. I mean,
- 16:53Speaker 3: the people asked me about the kind of shows I do.
- 16:55Speaker 3: And the truth is I do all kinds of shows.
- 16:57Speaker 3: I do comedy clubs, I do some churches, I do
- 16:59Speaker 3: some fundraisers, and I did all of them this weekend. Yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 3: I did a fundraiser in l J, Georgia for a school.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Then I turned around and went to O'Neill, Nebraska for
- 17:13Speaker 3: a show at the Community Center. And do you know
- 17:15Speaker 3: what one Nebraska's samous for. It's the Irish capital of Nebraska.
- 17:18Speaker 3: What they have the largest shamrock. I don't know, it's
- 17:22Speaker 3: just painted on the.
- 17:24Speaker 1: It's not a real shamrock. There's a city square.
- 17:28Speaker 3: There's a city square where you come to like a
- 17:31Speaker 3: four way traffic light in the middle of downtown and
- 17:33Speaker 3: a gigantic green and they repainted a couple of times
- 17:36Speaker 3: a year. But it was bright green that day because
- 17:39Speaker 3: they had it ready for Old Patrick's weekend. But a
- 17:42Speaker 3: church had sponsored the weekend at the community Center. But
- 17:45Speaker 3: we had a few hundred people. It was really great,
- 17:47Speaker 3: what a fun And people were shown up with green hair.
- 17:49Speaker 3: This one guy is long green beard that he died green.
- 17:53Speaker 3: I forgot to wear green, by the way, did you Yes?
- 17:57Speaker 2: I did not wear green that night. I wore a
- 17:59Speaker 2: boy today. Yesterday was Saint Patrick.
- 18:02Speaker 1: But I was trying. I was like, off all nights
- 18:03Speaker 1: not to wear green.
- 18:04Speaker 3: That night of that show, everybody's all decked out and
- 18:06Speaker 3: I'm wearing a blue sweater like a loser. But we're
- 18:09Speaker 3: going to get to that in a minute, because this
- 18:10Speaker 3: week in history is going to prove that I may
- 18:12Speaker 3: have been right.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that blue. Just stay tonk okay, I don't
- 18:18Speaker 2: don't don't give it away.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Don't fast forward either.
- 18:20Speaker 3: So we got a lot more details about my dumb
- 18:23Speaker 3: weekend because everybody wants to hear no. But anyway, then Nebraska,
- 18:27Speaker 3: there was a Nebraska. Then we drove over. We had
- 18:30Speaker 3: a one way rental car. We drove over to Des Moines,
- 18:33Speaker 3: which is about five hours, because I had to show
- 18:36Speaker 3: the next afternoon one PM show two thousand students six
- 18:41Speaker 3: through twelfth graders, and I swore to carry I said,
- 18:44Speaker 3: I told my agent, I go because we've we've turned
- 18:46Speaker 3: down a bunch of these because like this is what
- 18:47Speaker 3: you start out doing, right Like I started out. I
- 18:49Speaker 3: was doing all these songs and parodies and I was young,
- 18:52Speaker 3: not young, but I was young enough to get away
- 18:54Speaker 3: with it. I could get over now, I'm old enough
- 18:57Speaker 3: that I'm like, there's going to be a day when
- 19:00Speaker 3: I'm on stage in front of teenagers and they're going
- 19:02Speaker 3: to be like, we're not buying it, old man, and
- 19:05Speaker 3: I want to realize it before I get on that stage.
- 19:08Speaker 3: I don't want to get on the stage and realize it.
- 19:10Speaker 3: So I turned down a lot of those.
- 19:11Speaker 2: But this one's one that I had done two years before,
- 19:13Speaker 2: and they go, we'd love to have you do the
- 19:14Speaker 2: one in des Moine.
- 19:15Speaker 3: It's another chapter of the same conference. It's called Ignite,
- 19:19Speaker 3: and so I was like, all right, but this is it.
- 19:23Speaker 3: And when I got there on stage, they go, hey,
- 19:25Speaker 3: we're already we'd love to have you.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Come do Colorado Springs. And I go, hey, let's see
- 19:28Speaker 1: how this goes.
- 19:30Speaker 3: We start doing soundcheck, John and I told you this
- 19:32Speaker 3: when I was in defined So High the next day.
- 19:34Speaker 1: But sound check is not going well.
- 19:36Speaker 3: My guitar is not working, and we have like minutes,
- 19:39Speaker 3: we have like ten minutes before they're letting two thousand
- 19:41Speaker 3: kids into the room and it's not working.
- 19:44Speaker 1: And I go, well, this worked. Last night.
- 19:46Speaker 3: I was in O'Neil, Nebraska, the Irish capital of Nebraska. Yeah,
- 19:50Speaker 3: and it worked fine, like a peach. And they're being
- 19:52Speaker 3: a little defensive. They're like, well, it's our wireless pack
- 19:54Speaker 3: and it worked for that, and they plug it in
- 19:55Speaker 3: another guitar and it works, and I go, all right,
- 19:56Speaker 3: maybe this is my guitar. And so then they go,
- 19:58Speaker 3: well what can we do? I go, let's min the
- 20:00Speaker 3: guitar and they go, no, that'll cost feedback. And I go, well,
- 20:02Speaker 3: you just run a direct line?
- 20:03Speaker 1: What do you?
- 20:04Speaker 3: I go, can we just run a direct line to see?
- 20:05Speaker 3: And they go, well, no, it's not the line. It's
- 20:07Speaker 3: because this wireless pack worked on this other guitar, And
- 20:09Speaker 3: I go, can we try a direct line? I would
- 20:11Speaker 3: love to have tried a direct line. They again, they
- 20:13Speaker 3: were so nice. They were not They were kind of
- 20:15Speaker 3: embarrassed for me. And I was like, hey, I'm I'm fine.
- 20:19Speaker 2: If it's my guitar, it's my guitar or whatever. We
- 20:20Speaker 2: tried to put a battery and we did all.
- 20:22Speaker 3: The things, and then they go somebody went and ran
- 20:26Speaker 3: and found a youth pastor guitar, which is the best
- 20:29Speaker 3: as I could describe.
- 20:30Speaker 1: It, like the water on the wall right there. Yeah,
- 20:33Speaker 1: it's worse than that.
- 20:34Speaker 3: Oh, it was a Fender, OK, a Fender Acoustic, and
- 20:37Speaker 3: if you know anything about guitars, Fender makes some of
- 20:39Speaker 3: the best electric guitars in the world and some of
- 20:42Speaker 3: the worst acoustics. They never figured out acoustics. This thing
- 20:46Speaker 3: had strings on it that were like piano wire. They
- 20:48Speaker 3: were rusty, and it was out of tune. So I'm
- 20:51Speaker 3: trying to tune it. We've not we've not done a
- 20:53Speaker 3: sound check yet, and some eager leader lets the kids
- 20:58Speaker 3: into the room. So now I'm on stage holding a
- 21:01Speaker 3: guitar that I've never played, trying to tune it with
- 21:04Speaker 3: no sound check, and I'm getting ready to have to
- 21:05Speaker 3: do fifty.
- 21:06Speaker 1: You're about to be a meme.
- 21:07Speaker 3: I'm getting ready to do fifty five minutes of comedy.
- 21:09Speaker 3: I'm already nervous about the thing because I.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Can't talk about guns and roses or whatever exactly. Whatever.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yeah, anybody's seeing this American idol whatever I'm gonna say.
- 21:18Speaker 2: You guys know how old I am. I'm not going
- 21:21Speaker 2: to tell you who is Justice Beaver. I'm already already nervous.
- 21:26Speaker 2: And then now I've got an instrument that I've never played,
- 21:28Speaker 2: and I set it on the stand. I go, this
- 21:30Speaker 2: will have to work because I can't believe how loud
- 21:32Speaker 2: this thing is. And I'm really really.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Sorry John's being attacked overhead by a remote control helicopter.
- 21:38Speaker 2: I don't think it's going to affect your experience listening.
- 21:40Speaker 2: As long as we do, nothing can affect their experience.
- 21:43Speaker 1: No, no, no, this is great.
- 21:45Speaker 3: Anyway, we start the thing, and I'm already in my
- 21:47Speaker 3: head going through the thing of like, well, I'll omit
- 21:50Speaker 3: these jokes, this joke, this joke, or I won't you know,
- 21:53Speaker 3: And then I'm already saying like, well, I'll do less
- 21:55Speaker 3: guitar because I don't know this guitar is reliable.
- 21:57Speaker 2: It may not even stay in tuned. Can you imagine
- 21:59Speaker 2: what the kids? You'd do more guitar? I was gonna
- 22:01Speaker 2: do more music. Yeah, now I'm like this could these
- 22:04Speaker 2: strings could all break? So then and I strum you're
- 22:06Speaker 2: telling marriage jokes to a bunch of middle school.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Exactly you know, no when your wife. But they're like,
- 22:10Speaker 1: we don't know.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Not only did we not know, but for whatever I
- 22:14Speaker 2: couldn't believe it, but for whatever.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Reason, I did really well. The kids were all in.
- 22:21Speaker 3: They were just the nicest audience, and they laughed hard,
- 22:23Speaker 3: and then I got to the guitar part, and the
- 22:25Speaker 3: guitar worked. It did not sound great because we had
- 22:27Speaker 3: a chance to like really even eq it and it's
- 22:29Speaker 3: a Fender, but it was not a sponsor. But if
- 22:33Speaker 3: you want to sponsor me electric, lift Fender electric. Let's
- 22:35Speaker 3: go Fender Electric. But anyway, they couldn't have gone better.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Sanny O was great. And now I told Herry, I go,
- 22:43Speaker 3: I think I'm gonna do colorings, and it's it's like
- 22:47Speaker 3: I'm It's like I'm at the table and I've won
- 22:50Speaker 3: a couple of hands of black jack, and I'm up,
- 22:53Speaker 3: And do I stay at the table until I lose
- 22:55Speaker 3: five more hands of black jack?
- 22:57Speaker 1: Or do I get up and leave me cross the
- 23:00Speaker 1: Atlantic on the Titanic. Yeah? Right, I'm like, well, it's
- 23:02Speaker 1: gonna be fine. I'm sure.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Yeah, there's no Iceberg out there, there's no eighth grade Iceberg.
- 23:07Speaker 3: That's going to be like no. I was just trying
- 23:11Speaker 3: so hard not to say six to seven. That was
- 23:13Speaker 3: my only goal, Like, is there any jonment? I say
- 23:16Speaker 3: six to seven because I don't want to derail this
- 23:18Speaker 3: show with a six seven.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Boy, they have loved it, Yeah, but it would have
- 23:23Speaker 1: it's funny.
- 23:24Speaker 3: For I want to control the narrative of why they're laughing,
- 23:26Speaker 3: not let it be like some inside joke that nobody
- 23:29Speaker 3: really understands in the world. Yeah, anyway, but I got
- 23:33Speaker 3: through it. And then then I did a sold out
- 23:35Speaker 3: show and define Ohio to a little theater and when
- 23:38Speaker 3: we came home, so it was a lot of a
- 23:40Speaker 3: little of everything we did. We did a youth I mean,
- 23:42Speaker 3: I just I when I tell you I had not
- 23:44Speaker 3: done a youth show in you know, two years.
- 23:47Speaker 1: I'm proud of you because you have to really stretch
- 23:49Speaker 1: yourself to go well, you have to really need the money.
- 23:52Speaker 3: That is what you have to do, right. Yeah, No,
- 23:57Speaker 3: it was fine, and I think I'm gonna go. I
- 23:58Speaker 3: think I'm gonna do cars and then we're going to
- 24:00Speaker 3: see if that was the right decisions.
- 24:02Speaker 2: You're saying you won't mean you to get back in
- 24:04Speaker 2: the youth ministry, buddy, I think it's been time.
- 24:06Speaker 1: We're getting the band back toge Ready.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:09Speaker 3: I was telling the story the other day about how
- 24:10Speaker 3: we would always go into towns to do Christian rock,
- 24:12Speaker 3: our Christian rock band, Scarlet Thread.
- 24:14Speaker 1: And we'd go, they go, there's going to be three
- 24:15Speaker 1: hundred kids, and we'd show up and they'd go, we
- 24:18Speaker 1: don't know what happened.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Then there's thirty kids coming and they're excited, and then
- 24:22Speaker 3: we'd find out, like right before the show, they go,
- 24:25Speaker 3: the Power Team is in town. I was talking about
- 24:27Speaker 3: the Power Team and the Power Team. If you don't go,
- 24:30Speaker 3: please go look them up. If you don't know who
- 24:31Speaker 3: the Power Team is, they were this Christian thing in
- 24:34Speaker 3: the nineties and early odds that would do like feats
- 24:36Speaker 3: of strength and give their testimony. It's hard to beat,
- 24:40Speaker 3: it's hard to top. You get a muscle man come
- 24:42Speaker 3: to your school, is ripping phone come to your church.
- 24:44Speaker 3: He's tearing phone books, He's bending rebar over his head.
- 24:47Speaker 3: He's blowing up water bottles, hot water bottles the strength
- 24:53Speaker 3: of his lungs.
- 24:55Speaker 1: We didn't We didn't have any of that.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Lifting cars. We had he's lifting cars with his face.
- 25:00Speaker 2: You're breaking ice over his chest, like a big blocks
- 25:03Speaker 2: of ice. They're throwing a sledge. We had a few
- 25:07Speaker 2: CCM tunes that we were going to be playing.
- 25:09Speaker 3: Yeah, oh that's different. Poorly written. No, they weren't poorly written,
- 25:13Speaker 3: stop it.
- 25:14Speaker 1: We just didn't. We weren't strong enough. No, that's true.
- 25:16Speaker 1: We needed to be working out. Well. He would always
- 25:19Speaker 1: do feats of strength.
- 25:20Speaker 3: I would after a while, after like five towns that
- 25:22Speaker 3: we went to that the Power Team had derailed our show,
- 25:24Speaker 3: I started like tearing stacks and napkins. Yeah, and before
- 25:32Speaker 3: I do this, I just want to say, I'm just
- 25:34Speaker 3: doing a whole going to get you into the whole thing.
- 25:36Speaker 1: But anyway, we did it.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Those are the days. Yeah, good luck to the Power Team.
- 25:40Speaker 1: And they're still there, so I don't know if they
- 25:42Speaker 1: are but yeah, yeah, well I ain't if muscle mass
- 25:45Speaker 1: is what helps you age, you know better, I don't
- 25:48Speaker 1: know if you get that big though. Yeah, that's why
- 25:50Speaker 1: I don't.
- 25:51Speaker 2: I don't know if blowing up a hot water bottle
- 25:53Speaker 2: is like good for your body, you know.
- 25:55Speaker 1: I don't think this. Like the data is still out, Yeah,
- 25:57Speaker 1: the data still out. There's a lot of there's a
- 25:59Speaker 1: control group and there's out of one thousand people. Yeah, yeah,
- 26:03Speaker 1: lived to be one hundred and five. They go, what happened?
- 26:05Speaker 1: Every day? I blow up a hot water bottle until
- 26:07Speaker 1: it exploded. Yeah, I couldn't believe it. So, yeah, I
- 26:10Speaker 1: drank five doctor peppers. Oh man. Well, that's a yeah,
- 26:15Speaker 1: it was fun times.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Oh and I want to say too before we move
- 26:18Speaker 3: on to your segment, that I will be the Live
- 26:21Speaker 3: and Laughing Tour. We need you to go get those
- 26:23Speaker 3: tickets because these shows are hot shows. Ed Wiley and
- 26:26Speaker 3: my buddy Brian Bates of Nateland fame has on this

- 26:53Speaker 2: ie W dot com.
- 26:55Speaker 1: That's my segment, Johnny, Let's do it segment. They call.
- 26:58Speaker 1: They talked about that. I think it both went Bassie.
- 27:13Speaker 3: I wanted to offer a footnote too to my guitar story, okay,
- 27:16Speaker 3: that it worked the next night in defiance with a.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Dress, in defiance of the night before.
- 27:21Speaker 3: In defiance of the people in Des Moines who said, no,
- 27:26Speaker 3: it's your guitar. It was not my guitar, and I
- 27:28Speaker 3: don't I'm not saying that to like dunk on them
- 27:31Speaker 3: and to say, hey, I've got a podcast so I
- 27:32Speaker 3: can now. Please don't think I'm doing that. I mean
- 27:35Speaker 3: this in Christian love. It was your system, it was
- 27:38Speaker 3: not my guitar. And I love you, and I'll see
- 27:41Speaker 3: you in Colorado Sprints.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Maybe I want you lose the show.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Now he's in. He feels great about it. Everybody, Okay,
- 27:47Speaker 2: it's fine. And if he won't do it, all, come
- 27:48Speaker 2: to it. I think I'm ready. I think you're totally
- 27:50Speaker 2: fifty minutes. It's in front of students. Oh man, buddy,
- 27:54Speaker 2: you got this. They love bald guys. Let me say,
- 27:57Speaker 2: put on a beanie. You went right where I say.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Young people people deal with young people today.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Kids today is Thomas Brooks born sixteen oh eight died
- 28:11Speaker 2: sixteen eighty that's a decent, decent life. In the sixteen hundred,
- 28:15Speaker 2: English Puritan preacher and a prolific author, widely regarded as
- 28:19Speaker 2: one of the most pastoral and readable voices of the periods.
- 28:22Speaker 1: In the era, he said.
- 28:25Speaker 2: The Lord Jesus hath as great and as large an
- 28:28Speaker 2: interest in the weakest saints as he hath in the strongest.
- 28:32Speaker 2: He had the interest of a friend, in the interest
- 28:34Speaker 2: of a father, in the interest of a head, in
- 28:37Speaker 2: the interest of a husband.
- 28:38Speaker 1: And therefore those saints be weak, yay, though they be
- 28:42Speaker 1: very weak.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Yet having as great and as large an interest in
- 28:46Speaker 2: them as in the strongest saints, he cannot but overlook
- 28:49Speaker 2: their weakness and keep a fixed eye upon their graces.
- 28:55Speaker 2: I we were talking yesterday and staff, meaning we always
- 29:00Speaker 2: do a kind of.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Thought of the week.
- 29:03Speaker 2: We rotate with the staff, you know, and one of
- 29:07Speaker 2: our guys when I was speaking Sunday, I actually told
- 29:11Speaker 2: a story from staff meeting about a moment he could
- 29:14Speaker 2: have been offended at something, and he had chosen when
- 29:18Speaker 2: we talked later to talk about, Oh, I know how
- 29:20Speaker 2: that person's wired. And I imagine that must have been
- 29:23Speaker 2: hard when they heard this, this and this like instead
- 29:25Speaker 2: of instead of like being offended, he absorbed it, he
- 29:27Speaker 2: absorbed the offense. And so the inside of that was
- 29:31Speaker 2: is he was talking about how hard it is for
- 29:34Speaker 2: him to know what to do with You might call
- 29:38Speaker 2: it a compliment or something like that. Because I think
- 29:41Speaker 2: we read that one time on the podcast some theologian said,
- 29:45Speaker 2: you know, the only person who can have true humility
- 29:47Speaker 2: has to be completely unaware of it because the moment,
- 29:50Speaker 2: the moment you're aware of humility, then you cross into
- 29:53Speaker 2: something else. So you almost have to like live in
- 29:55Speaker 2: a humbled state. You're being humbled and it hurts real bad,
- 29:58Speaker 2: but you won't know it, you know. And so I
- 30:02Speaker 2: was talking to him about like I said something that
- 30:05Speaker 2: really I haven't said out loud in this way, but
- 30:08Speaker 2: it really stuck with me since yesterday.
- 30:11Speaker 1: I was like, you know, when and I feel distant.
- 30:14Speaker 2: From God a lot, and just just by feelings, right,
- 30:18Speaker 2: I don't take that as anything anymore. Really, they're real
- 30:22Speaker 2: and they're valid, but they're not reality, and they're always
- 30:25Speaker 2: there trying to there's always that inner critic or everyone
- 30:27Speaker 2: to say it, always trying to pull me somewhere different.
- 30:30Speaker 2: And I was like, if I'm honest, it's a really
- 30:35Speaker 2: hard place for me to go. But probably where I
- 30:37Speaker 2: feel most known and authentic with God is when I
- 30:42Speaker 2: can come to the place where I can feel that
- 30:46Speaker 2: He is proud of me or pleased with me. And
- 30:49Speaker 2: it is super hard and the other guy, my buddy,
- 30:52Speaker 2: he's a six like I am. And he was just like,
- 30:55Speaker 2: oh yeah, I was like yeah, Like just saying the
- 30:57Speaker 2: words is hard for me. Yeah, because our theology teaches
- 31:01Speaker 2: us right that when did Paul say in me nothing good?
- 31:05Speaker 1: Dwells?
- 31:06Speaker 2: And there's there's that desire to be humble. There's a
- 31:09Speaker 2: desire not to well and not to rest on your laurels.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Like you you don't want to like, Okay, well I'm
- 31:16Speaker 3: gonna rest on this, and that means that I'm gonna
- 31:18Speaker 3: let myself go or let myself yeah, right, and or
- 31:21Speaker 3: you don't want to just trying to stay vigilant and earn.
- 31:24Speaker 3: You're trying to earned if you're honest.
- 31:26Speaker 2: But there's a there's a online though, of not taking
- 31:29Speaker 2: glory right in anything that you do, and recognizing even
- 31:34Speaker 2: if you do something right or believe something right or
- 31:37Speaker 2: say something right, you know.
- 31:39Speaker 1: I I think it was Tim Keller. I was listening
- 31:42Speaker 1: to a thing the other day.
- 31:43Speaker 2: He said, the entire doctrine of predestination really has one purpose.
- 31:48Speaker 2: I never heard him say it like this or it
- 31:51Speaker 2: said like this. It's not to try to predict who's
- 31:54Speaker 2: going to heaven. Who's not to debate whether there's fairness
- 31:58Speaker 2: in the elect or whatever. He goes, the whole real
- 31:59Speaker 2: purpose of that doctrine is so that nobody will stand
- 32:03Speaker 2: on anything but God's mercy, he said, because and he
- 32:06Speaker 2: went through this like this scenario. He was like, so
- 32:09Speaker 2: if you say, okay, I believed and my neighbor did not,
- 32:12Speaker 2: you know, why do you think that is? Well, that's
- 32:14Speaker 2: because I chose to put faith in God. Okay, why
- 32:16Speaker 2: did you choose to put faith in God? Because I
- 32:18Speaker 2: can sit And he kept going, Okay, well why did
- 32:19Speaker 2: you do that?
- 32:20Speaker 1: But why did you do that? But why did you
- 32:21Speaker 1: do that?
- 32:21Speaker 2: Because in the end, if you keep going all the
- 32:23Speaker 2: way back, it's supposed to take you to the place
- 32:25Speaker 2: where you go there was nothing I could actually do.
- 32:28Speaker 1: God had to put that thought.
- 32:30Speaker 2: And so instead of you know, focusing on the fairness
- 32:32Speaker 2: of the neighbor and what they did or did not do,
- 32:34Speaker 2: the whole we missed the whole purpose. The real purpose
- 32:37Speaker 2: is to say that none of us stand on anything
- 32:38Speaker 2: before God but his mercy. And I think it's that
- 32:42Speaker 2: idea that keeps us from feeling that God could be
- 32:46Speaker 2: pleased with us on any front, or that God's only
- 32:51Speaker 2: pleased with us simply through the sacrifice of Jesus. And
- 32:57Speaker 2: I do believe what I just said is theologically accurate,
- 33:00Speaker 2: but I think it also depersonalizes maybe the love of
- 33:02Speaker 2: God sometimes, because we do see in scripture where God
- 33:05Speaker 2: will say, like, I mean to the unbelieving.
- 33:10Speaker 1: He was the guy that that.
- 33:11Speaker 2: I forget the centurion right who's praying and God, and
- 33:14Speaker 2: an angel appears and says, hey, you know, God has
- 33:17Speaker 2: seen the alms you give to the poor and the
- 33:19Speaker 2: way you're trying to honor him.
- 33:21Speaker 1: There's going to become a God in Paul that I
- 33:22Speaker 1: want you to go with him.
- 33:23Speaker 2: And he's going to tell you, like there was a
- 33:26Speaker 2: sense of pleasure in what in that guy that I
- 33:29Speaker 2: don't think is the same thing as him earning God's favor,
- 33:32Speaker 2: earning salvation. But so we throw that whole baby Jesus
- 33:36Speaker 2: out with the bathwater on that one, right, Like we
- 33:39Speaker 2: are just completely worthless before God, and only because of
- 33:41Speaker 2: Jesus does he have any interest or even any any
- 33:44Speaker 2: liking towards us. It was like, but if I could
- 33:46Speaker 2: bring myself to the place where I can hear the
- 33:51Speaker 2: pleasure of the Father towards me as a beloved son,
- 33:54Speaker 2: not because of performance really, just because I don't just
- 33:59Speaker 2: that's just love. And I started thinking, we made you.
- 34:01Speaker 2: He's proud of you because he made you well. And again,
- 34:04Speaker 2: we just had somebody on staff, you know, a couple
- 34:06Speaker 2: that just had a baby, and you know when they
- 34:08Speaker 2: send pictures, it's not I mean, they couldn't be more proud,
- 34:11Speaker 2: and the baby has done nothing to deserve.
- 34:15Speaker 1: But the last thing they'd want the baby to think.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Is well, my parents just have to love me, because
- 34:21Speaker 2: that's what's right. They would want they're a kid to
- 34:25Speaker 2: know that. No, no, it's not just because you're a
- 34:27Speaker 2: baby like all other babies. It's because you're you're mind
- 34:30Speaker 2: and whatever is unique about there are unique things about
- 34:33Speaker 2: you that's like nobody else and and you have you
- 34:36Speaker 2: have that.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Can I be displeased with things that you do?
- 34:39Speaker 2: Sure, But I just think that I thought this quote
- 34:43Speaker 2: really hit that well, that God has all this interest
- 34:47Speaker 2: in us, regardless of our weaknesses, and that he has
- 34:51Speaker 2: this fixed eye upon other things within us that he
- 34:55Speaker 2: is it's hard. It's like God is equipping us and
- 34:59Speaker 2: I think rooting for us. The Bible says that there
- 35:01Speaker 2: are there is a that the Living translation calls it
- 35:06Speaker 2: the grand stands of Heaven, right, that that there's this
- 35:10Speaker 2: this great sort of surrounding crowd of faith, that that
- 35:16Speaker 2: a cloud of witnesses is another way they would say,
- 35:19Speaker 2: so are they are they cheering for us? Are they
- 35:22Speaker 2: are they hoping that we make it well? I mean,
- 35:24Speaker 2: if if the saints can hope that we make it right?
- 35:27Speaker 2: And we even know theologically that when Lazarus and the
- 35:30Speaker 2: rich Man died, that there was a conversation happening beyond
- 35:35Speaker 2: this life of concern about those who are still on
- 35:38Speaker 2: the earth. Right, even the wicked rich Man was asking, Hey,
- 35:42Speaker 2: can you go say my brothers? And so how much
- 35:44Speaker 2: more do I think there's interest from saints beyond in
- 35:47Speaker 2: what's happening to us here? If the saints have interest,
- 35:50Speaker 2: and how much more the Father? Yeah, right, and that
- 35:54Speaker 2: he's he's wanting good things for us and seeing through
- 35:57Speaker 2: the eyes of other things. And again I'm always scared
- 36:00Speaker 2: it's gonna be like someone's gonna interpret that is so,
- 36:02Speaker 2: if you do a good job, God's proud of you.
- 36:04Speaker 2: And that may be true, but that's not a pride
- 36:08Speaker 2: unto salvation or unto other things.
- 36:10Speaker 1: I think it can be a fatherly pride.
- 36:12Speaker 2: But I find for me my most I feel most
- 36:17Speaker 2: at home with God when I'll let that very uncomfortable
- 36:21Speaker 2: thought in that I am found to be pleasing the
- 36:24Speaker 2: eyes of my father.
- 36:25Speaker 1: So anyway, just sharing that today, it's good. I like it.
- 36:28Speaker 1: That's good stuff. Let's do My saying was John, let's
- 36:30Speaker 1: do old jokes.
- 36:31Speaker 3: We call it joke about that, John, I think I've
- 36:39Speaker 3: bought the world's worst thesaurus.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Not only is it awful, it's awful. I like that.
- 36:48Speaker 3: A ninety five year old man was overheard by the
- 36:50Speaker 3: staff at his carol I'm calling his wife sweetee and
- 36:52Speaker 3: honey when she was in the bathroom. One of the
- 36:54Speaker 3: staff asked him his secret. How do you remain so
- 36:56Speaker 3: loving all these years? He answered, well, it's been ten years.
- 36:58Speaker 3: I've forgotten their name. I'm scared to ask her now.
- 37:05Speaker 3: That's great. And John, finally, I'm never donating blood again.
- 37:08Speaker 3: The many you walk in the door, it's just questions
- 37:10Speaker 3: like where did you get it? And why is it
- 37:11Speaker 3: in a bucket? That one's dark. That's good, John, Let's
- 37:18Speaker 3: do this week in history, we call it talk about then, John,
- 37:27Speaker 3: this week was Saint Patrick's day. A lot of us
- 37:30Speaker 3: celebrated yesterday. You stayed on this side of inebriation. I
- 37:34Speaker 3: think I did, Okay, we celebrate the life of Saint Patrick,
- 37:38Speaker 3: who died on this date. Various sources give the year
- 37:40Speaker 3: as AD four sixty, four sixty one or four ninety three,
- 37:43Speaker 3: which is a big variance.
- 37:44Speaker 1: That's big in the death all the copycats.
- 37:48Speaker 3: Yeah, four sixty four sixty one or four ninety three,
- 37:51Speaker 3: we're just way off. Saint Patrick's color was originally blue,
- 37:57Speaker 3: but over the years it has changed to green to
- 37:58Speaker 3: commemorate his use of the shmrock to explain the Trinity
- 38:01Speaker 3: to Pagans. That's why it ended up being green, because
- 38:04Speaker 3: he was explaining three and one to Pagans using a
- 38:08Speaker 3: shamrock a clover, and he says, God is three. This
- 38:13Speaker 3: is like, this is three, there's three leaves. It's one,
- 38:15Speaker 3: God's three and one the trinity. So they go, now,
- 38:17Speaker 3: your color is green. So when I wore that blue sweater,
- 38:20Speaker 3: I was closer to Saint Patrick's original vision.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Right intentionally, And you know the whole you know the story, right,
- 38:29Speaker 2: the historical story about the snakes in Ireland. That's exactly
- 38:34Speaker 2: what wife said last night. It's so funny. So you
- 38:38Speaker 2: know Patrick was not Irish, okay, he was English, sure,
- 38:43Speaker 2: and then he was stolen and trafficked into slavery in
- 38:48Speaker 2: Ireland as a boy okay, basically forced to keep the
- 38:53Speaker 2: flocks of his you know master. And that's for those
- 38:59Speaker 2: years in the fields by himself and I in the
- 39:01Speaker 2: coltons of where he.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Really became very close with God, all right.
- 39:05Speaker 2: And then he escaped, yeah, and went back home and
- 39:08Speaker 2: grew up, and then began having dreams from the people
- 39:12Speaker 2: his captors basically saying come back to come back to
- 39:17Speaker 2: Ireland and walk among us again.
- 39:18Speaker 1: And he felt that it was God calling him, and
- 39:20Speaker 1: he did.
- 39:21Speaker 2: He went back to the land of his captivity, wow, okay,
- 39:23Speaker 2: and took the gospel.
- 39:24Speaker 1: And I mean built it.
- 39:27Speaker 2: Won, thousands of baptized, thousands of people, built monasteries. But yeah,
- 39:30Speaker 2: he was the apostle to the Irish who has?
- 39:33Speaker 1: Who had? But he knew their culture and knew who
- 39:36Speaker 1: they were. That's crazy.
- 39:37Speaker 3: That's a great this guy. Come on, man, and now
- 39:40Speaker 3: we dye the river green and get lit. Yeah, it's
- 39:45Speaker 3: not the same. No, I don't think he would. No,
- 39:47Speaker 3: I don't think he would have dug that. But anyway,
- 39:50Speaker 3: my blue sweater was more historically accurate. We ever knew.
- 39:54Speaker 3: That's right, John. This week James the Fourth was born.
- 40:00Speaker 3: He was born fourteen seventy three. He was the King
- 40:04Speaker 3: of Scotland. And he makes the list because he banned
- 40:07Speaker 3: golf but later became a golfer himself. Okay, okay, so
- 40:13Speaker 3: come on y'all. Fourteen ninety one he reaffirmed a ban
- 40:16Speaker 3: on golf that had started in fourteen fifty seven when
- 40:18Speaker 3: James the Second band golf and football to preserve the
- 40:21Speaker 3: skills of archery. So this wasn't some religious like we've
- 40:24Speaker 3: got to get more into the church losing archery. Sportz er,
- 40:28Speaker 3: we're losing archery. We've got to do something. The ban
- 40:30Speaker 3: was lifted in fifteen oh two with the signing of
- 40:33Speaker 3: the Treaty of Perpetual Peace between England and Scotland. James
- 40:36Speaker 3: soon became a golfer himself and made the first recorded
- 40:39Speaker 3: purchase of golf equipment, a set of golf clubs from
- 40:41Speaker 3: a bow maker in Perth. Wait a minute, Wait a second,
- 40:45Speaker 3: he's buying golf equipment from a bow maker. The whole
- 40:48Speaker 3: point of banning golf was to save archery. Meanwhile, this
- 40:51Speaker 3: guy who's an archer himself, he's like, I gotta get
- 40:54Speaker 3: a side hustle here.
- 40:54Speaker 1: I got to make some golf because archery is going downhill.
- 40:58Speaker 3: That to me, this story is more about side hustles
- 41:00Speaker 3: than it is about hypocrisy. I abandon golf and then
- 41:02Speaker 3: taking up golf. Golf is a seductive mistress. It's going
- 41:05Speaker 3: to lure you in. But it's the guy who's the
- 41:07Speaker 3: bowmaker that's like, let me go ahead, and an extra
- 41:10Speaker 3: fi this sorry six bits.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Anyway, Happy birthday, James the fourth, and hit.
- 41:17Speaker 3: Him well out there today, wherever you may be. John
- 41:22Speaker 3: born this week, eighteen thirty seven. Grover Cleveland. He was
- 41:27Speaker 3: an American politician, the twenty second and twenty fourth US President.
- 41:31Speaker 3: I did not realize that, and governor from New York
- 41:33Speaker 3: eighteen eighty three to eighteen eighty five. And there's a
- 41:37Speaker 3: list of things about him that I did not know.
- 41:38Speaker 3: And you may know all you're a US history guy.
- 41:40Speaker 3: Did you know a lot about Grover Cleveland? Hwa, dustle?
- 41:42Speaker 3: Did you know that he was one of the first
- 41:43Speaker 3: people to be in non successive terms?
- 41:45Speaker 1: Okay, you knew that part he was.
- 41:47Speaker 2: He was the first democratic US president since the Civil War,
- 41:51Speaker 2: so he avoided the Civil War draft by hiring someone
- 41:55Speaker 2: to take his place. And I know that this guy,
- 41:57Speaker 2: I mean this, this list is wild. In eighteen ninety three,
- 42:02Speaker 2: he had a tumor in his mouth, secretly removed under
- 42:04Speaker 2: the guise of going on a fishing trip. He had
- 42:06Speaker 2: doctors remove the tumor while a board of friend's yacht.
- 42:09Speaker 2: They removed the tumor, along with about five teeth and
- 42:12Speaker 2: a large part of his upper left jaw. When a
- 42:14Speaker 2: reporter uncovered the story, Cleveland denied it and launched a
- 42:17Speaker 2: smear campaign to discredit the reporter because it was setting.
- 42:20Speaker 2: You know, obviously this is pre internet, obviously way but
- 42:23Speaker 2: still important that a politician not show this level of
- 42:26Speaker 2: weakness you're going to be in photos.
- 42:28Speaker 1: But he had five teeth in his upper jaw remove
- 42:30Speaker 1: and a reporter that reported it.
- 42:32Speaker 3: He goes, not only is it not true, he doubles
- 42:33Speaker 3: down and smears the guy. This is like what Lance
- 42:36Speaker 3: Armstrong did. I mean, he was being you know, like
- 42:39Speaker 3: rightfully accused of things. He was just like he just
- 42:41Speaker 3: like wrecked all these reporters' careers because he had the
- 42:44Speaker 3: high ground.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Sometimes he protest too much, you know what I'm saying. Yeah, man,
- 42:47Speaker 2: he's projecting with no teeth all the you all the more.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Cleveland was the first US president deserved two nonconsecative terms.
- 42:55Speaker 2: He was the first and only US president married in
- 42:57Speaker 2: the White House, and the second to wed while in office.
- 42:59Speaker 2: You know that, forty nine year old Cleveland married a
- 43:02Speaker 2: twenty one year old Francis Fulsom, making her the youngest
- 43:06Speaker 2: US first lady twenty one, forty nine and twenty one.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Wow, that's that's yeah.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Their first child, Ruth Cleveland, was born between his terms
- 43:17Speaker 3: as US President and became an instant media sensation, popularly
- 43:20Speaker 3: known as John H.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Baby Ruth. There you.
- 43:24Speaker 3: In nineteen twenty one, seventeen years after her death, the
- 43:27Speaker 3: Curtis Candy Company renamed their candy cake Candy Bar two
- 43:31Speaker 3: K's Candy Cake. They renamed it Baby Ruth in honor
- 43:34Speaker 3: of her Coincidentally, the famous baseball player Babe Ruth. George
- 43:37Speaker 3: Hermanruth had hit fifty one fifty four home runs the
- 43:40Speaker 3: year before and had been the home run leader since
- 43:42Speaker 3: nineteen eighteen. Had they named it Babe Ruth? They probably
- 43:45Speaker 3: would have had to compensate him. So it's named more
- 43:49Speaker 3: for the baby. But people, I think assume it's Babe Ruth.
- 43:51Speaker 3: But it's a name for Grover Cleveland's daughter with a
- 43:55Speaker 3: twenty one year old Grover Cleveland's portrait graces the US
- 43:59Speaker 3: one thousand dollars bill, which I.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Think are out of circulation. So I got a couple
- 44:03Speaker 1: over here if you want to see. Yeah, I think
- 44:04Speaker 1: let me have a look after the show. Maybe John
- 44:07Speaker 1: mister Rogers was born.
- 44:08Speaker 3: We have a lot of births birthdays this week, nineteen
- 44:11Speaker 3: twenty eight, Fred Rogers, and he makes the list because
- 44:15Speaker 3: it's mister Rogers.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Dude. We need more, We need a lot more mister Rogers. People.
- 44:19Speaker 3: I've talked about him on the show before, but I
- 44:22Speaker 3: see that you see the documentary and the movie that
- 44:25Speaker 3: they made about him. I think he was teaching Americans
- 44:28Speaker 3: how to be a different kind of man.
- 44:31Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Yeah, and I do. I mean,
- 44:35Speaker 1: I just I.
- 44:35Speaker 3: Think that that guy is somebody that his impact is
- 44:38Speaker 3: We're still learning more. He was an American Emmy winging
- 44:41Speaker 3: TV personality Presbyterian minister. One of his sweaters which was
- 44:45Speaker 3: knitted by his mother's on display in the Smithsonian quote,
- 44:50Speaker 3: You've made this day a special day just by your
- 44:52Speaker 3: being you. There's no person in the whole world like you,
- 44:54Speaker 3: and I like you just the way you are. Why
- 44:56Speaker 3: he announces, Why he announces he's feeding the fish as
- 44:59Speaker 3: he's feed This is why he makes the list. This
- 45:01Speaker 3: is really why he makes the list. This is one
- 45:02Speaker 3: of my favorite stories of all time. And this is
- 45:05Speaker 3: all about empathy and why we need more empathy in
- 45:07Speaker 3: the world. So anyway you go to feed the fish.
- 45:09Speaker 3: He started in this show saying I'm feeding the fish
- 45:12Speaker 3: right now. He did that because one girl in her
- 45:14Speaker 3: family wrote to tell us when please say when you're
- 45:19Speaker 3: feeding the fish, because I worry about them. I can't
- 45:22Speaker 3: see if you're feeding them, so please say you're feeding
- 45:24Speaker 3: them out loud.
- 45:25Speaker 1: She's eight said.
- 45:26Speaker 3: This is from Katie, age five, and the father's note
- 45:29Speaker 3: below the letter said, Katie is blind and she does
- 45:31Speaker 3: cry if you don't say your love that you have
- 45:33Speaker 3: fed the fish.
- 45:34Speaker 1: She worries about them.
- 45:35Speaker 2: So mister Rogers took that in and had the emotional
- 45:38Speaker 2: iq to then from then on say I'm feeding the
- 45:40Speaker 2: fish for that one little girl.
- 45:42Speaker 1: Wow, I mean mister rogers.
- 45:45Speaker 3: Do John finally born this week nineteen oh four BF Skinner.
- 45:51Speaker 3: He's an American psychologist, pioneer and behaviorism, which did not
- 45:55Speaker 3: know was the thing. But behaviorism, you know social.
- 45:59Speaker 2: It's like cottonhavioral theory theology, the behaviorism is it different sociology.
- 46:04Speaker 1: He worked on a.
- 46:05Speaker 3: World War two project Pigeon, which attempted to develop pigeon
- 46:10Speaker 3: guided bombs. A glider with a bomb attached had a
- 46:16Speaker 3: guidance system in the nosecone. The guidance system projected an
- 46:20Speaker 3: image onto a screen. Several pigeons that were trained to
- 46:23Speaker 3: recognize a particular target would peck at the screen when
- 46:26Speaker 3: they saw the target. If the target moved to the
- 46:29Speaker 3: edge of the screen, the pigeons.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Pecking would follow it on the screen, and the guidance
- 46:32Speaker 2: system would adjust the direction of the glider to recenter
- 46:35Speaker 2: the target, thus keeping the glider on course. I have
- 46:38Speaker 2: no idea what happened with this project, or it was
- 46:40Speaker 2: like something they were just trying, and then the pigeons
- 46:43Speaker 2: were just not.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Great at this. I mean they're in the middle of
- 46:45Speaker 1: a battle. Just the fact that they thought.
- 46:48Speaker 3: I bet we could train pigeons to do this, and
- 46:50Speaker 3: then they're like, we got men and bombs and war,
- 46:54Speaker 3: why don't we involve some birds. I mean it's other
- 46:56Speaker 3: reasoning homing pigeons and things. But yeah, they sent carrier
- 46:58Speaker 3: pigeons in War one. I think this is a pigeon
- 47:00Speaker 3: doing like a tech job, right, a pigeon helping you
- 47:03Speaker 3: find your target?
- 47:04Speaker 1: Wow?
- 47:05Speaker 3: Yeah, and you don't hear a lot about it, Like,
- 47:07Speaker 3: I don't think this is still going on, so obviously
- 47:09Speaker 3: we can say this is probably a failed program.
- 47:11Speaker 2: Yeah, these were the unsung heroes the uh man, why
- 47:16Speaker 2: is no one talking about the pigeons?
- 47:19Speaker 3: They're getting a little tiny metal of freedoms. I don't know, man,
- 47:23Speaker 3: they're out there though. Yeah, there's a pigeon in a
- 47:27Speaker 3: park somewhere. It's like my grandpa fought in WWS right now.
- 47:33Speaker 1: The greatest pigeon generation. Oh my goodness, wasn't it though? Yeah?
- 47:37Speaker 1: I don't know enough?
- 47:39Speaker 2: John?
- 47:39Speaker 3: How would you find out more about the show? Four
- 47:41Speaker 3: hundred episodes, but some would say too many? How would
- 47:44Speaker 3: they find them all?

- 48:17Speaker 3: If in some way we're pecking at the screen, that's right,
- 48:20Speaker 3: like a misguided pigeon is trying to keep the nose
- 48:24Speaker 3: cone of our glider secure and safe and down the middle.
- 48:27Speaker 2: Eighty years from now, someone's going to be telling a story.
- 48:29Speaker 2: And you know, there was these two guys, yeah, who
- 48:31Speaker 2: sat in an office.
- 48:32Speaker 3: Yeah, because everything a time, everything will be computerized. They'll
- 48:35Speaker 3: be like, oh, and the robots give us our entertainment.
- 48:37Speaker 2: Later on they uploaded their consciousness to AI and now
