- 0:27SPEAKER_03: We're going to discuss the new Blockbuster film, The Accountant 2, starring Ben Affleck and John Bernthal.
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: So, real quick, spoilers.
- 0:36SPEAKER_03: There are gonna be a lot of spoilers.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: We have to go into the movie, and actually, even for the original film as well.
- 0:41SPEAKER_03: So go back and watch anything that you need to watch in order to catch up so that we don't spoil it for you.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: All right, Megan.
- 0:47SPEAKER_03: You and I just went to watch the movie.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: Uh it was a nice matinee pricing.
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: We're accountants, right?
- 0:53SPEAKER_03: We went uh to watch the uh the accountant movie uh part two.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: It was well, I don't know.
- 0:59SPEAKER_03: We'll see about that.
- 1:00SPEAKER_03: We'll see about that.
- 1:01SPEAKER_03: This this is being recorded right now, so I just want to make sure that we're we're on the right side of things.
- 1:06SPEAKER_03: What were your original uh impressions?
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Uh I liked it.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: It's it's sort of uh a movie that is kind of my speed.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: There's like bad guys and like fun, like little twists, also funny brother stuff, which I love.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: Uh guys getting punched and falling out of windows and stuff.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: That's that's always fun.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Uh was a little bit longer than I think it needed to be.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: And I think some of the plot was a little disjointed.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: I I was taking notes so that we could do this podcast afterwards, and a lot of my notes were like, why did that just happen?
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: Or why are there why are all these guys have machine guns?
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Or where do you get henchmen?
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Like things like that.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: So yeah, where do you get henchmen?
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: Is there a henchmen store?
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: I mean, uh maybe that's something you ask for us.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Perhaps.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: Um I liked it too.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: I gotta be honest.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: And having just uh re-watched the the original one, uh it I think it does stand up better than the than the original one, at least from a uh entertainment standpoint.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: And by the way, uh I just I just want to say thank you to all the creatives out there who create stuff so that we can criticize it.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: Uh otherwise, you know, we it would just be all us boring accountant types.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: So I'm glad that this uh this is out there in the universe.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, it's even though it's not high art, let's let's be honest, but it was I was entertained.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: I was entertained.
- 2:30unknown: Definitely.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: So uh just real quick, uh, because it has been a few years since the original film.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: Uh the original film came out in 2016.
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: Let me give you a little bit of a recap on that uh before we jump into the new one.
- 2:45SPEAKER_03: Uh so basically, The Accountant, part one, before there was a part two, uh, is about Christian Wolfe.
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: He's a math genius with autism.
- 2:53SPEAKER_03: You find that out later in the film, who works as a CPA doing his quiet thing in his quiet little office.
- 2:59SPEAKER_03: But actually, on the side, he does forensic accounting for criminal organizations.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: So, in other words, basically he's when people steal from criminals, the criminals call him to find out who and how and what happened.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: So he's working for the bad guys to find other bad guys.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: A little moral a little moral ambiguity.
- 3:19SPEAKER_03: Great.
- 3:20SPEAKER_03: And he's autistic.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: So that's kind of his his big character trait.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: His people skills aren't good, and it's really a good thing that his dad gave him some special forces training so that he could kick ass anyway.
- 3:31SPEAKER_03: Uh at some point, Christian gets hired by a robotics company to look into some suspicious activity flagged by Dana.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: Oh Yayana Kendrick.
- 3:40SPEAKER_03: Uh Batfleck starts digging and finds a huge embezzlement scheme, but once he uncovers it, people are dying.
- 3:47SPEAKER_03: So Christian and Dana are in danger.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: He's got to kick some butt and use his crazy count and brain to stay alive and figure it all out.
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: And as a B-plot, which becomes important later, turns out that all the while he was doing his forensic stuff, Christian was feeding tips to the Treasury Department, FinCen, in fact.
- 4:06SPEAKER_03: And throughout the original film, they're trying to track him down.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: It's not totally clear why, but I think just to get some closure on who's been giving them these awesome leads all over.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: So he's clearly got a moral code.
- 4:18SPEAKER_03: That's in contrast to one of the other main characters, Braxton, uh Bernthal, who seems to be just a killer for hire.
- 4:27SPEAKER_03: And really, at the end, he's the ultimate baddie that Christian has to duke it out with.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: But plot twist, Braxton is actually his long-lost brother.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: Glockdrop.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: Movie over.
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: All right, so that's that's uh Accountant Part One, the Accountant Part One.
- 4:44SPEAKER_03: Um, let's let's dive right into uh the Accountant Part Two.
- 4:48SPEAKER_03: Uh Megan, you you were gonna do the recap.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Uh we just watched the accountant two, and uh how that starts is uh with the assassination of Raymond King, who's a former FinCEN director, who uh is in a bar where he meets they're playing bingo, and he meets with the assassin Annace, and he's looking for her help in locating a Salvadoran family.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Uh during their meeting, he is assassinated, leaving behind a message on his arm, find the accountant.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: And I had to look it up, but apparently Annace means grace or mercy.
- 5:23SPEAKER_03: Oh in French.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: Oh um, and then uh we f see the new director of FinCEN who goes to identify the body and sees the message and seeks out the help of Christian Wolf to assist in the investigation.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: The accountant, he's the accountant.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: So meanwhile, Christian's living his life as the accountant um and being generally uh awkward in life, and he goes through a speed dating uh experience and games the system apparently, uh, and and has an analytical approach to uh like figure out their algorithm and tries to do that with some ladies and still doesn't work uh because he they're trying to establish he's an awkward guy.
- 6:13SPEAKER_03: And this is despite the fact that he looks like Ben Affleck.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's very excited to meet him because he is Ben Affleck, and then you meet them and they're like although I will say the entire time I he was at the speed dating, I kept turning to Ben and saying, He's perfect, what's wrong with them?
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: Because he kept talking about he's Megan's type.
- 6:36SPEAKER_03: He was like, Well, I analyzed that, and so I I really I connected with his character getting a little flushed right there in the uh movie theater theater seat there, and yeah, it was uh funny.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: So so then um Christian gets involved with uh with Mary Beth.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: Uh they meet each other and he gets her involved in the case in order to figure out what uh Ray King was up to.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, and he decides that it's time to bring in his brother Braxton to delve deeper in the case and help out uh with sort of the uh assassination piece of it.
- 7:14SPEAKER_03: Punching dudes, shooting dudes, whatever.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Punching dudes, yeah, you know.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Um they they end up having some some brotherly interactions, they go to a bar, they beat up some guys together.
- 7:26SPEAKER_03: You know, I loved that by the way.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: That was great.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Ben Affleck got some girls' number.
- 7:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah, so it was a total win for the accounting dorks out there, and I gotta say, I mean, I didn't go to the saddle rack much locally here, but uh being awkward for the well, the for the first one second he was doing line dancing, I'm like, oh, I identify with this guy, but then he got all crazy smart and just was able to pick it up over you know right right away.
- 7:53SPEAKER_03: And and by the way, one of the things that they uh the the filmmakers were trying to uh say is that not only is Chris Wolfe autistic, but he also has uh savant syndrome, basically.
- 8:07SPEAKER_03: So that's why he's so crazy smart uh with with math.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: Uh I looked this up too.
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: Uh NIH basically says persons with serious mental disabilities, including autistic disorder, uh, who have some kind of uh quote unquote island of genius, which stands in marked contrast to their overall handicap.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: That's a paraphrase.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: Um zhuzed it up a little bit.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: But thank you, NIH, for uh for for uh coming up with that.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: What word in my neurodivergent peeps?
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: Um uh so that happens.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: Apparently, if you're in a town, you're really good at line dancing.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: I I have also been the saddle rack.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: I'm not good at it.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: Those people are amazing.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: Yes, I don't know how they do it.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: Um, but uh they all start then investigating the Salvador, this particular Salvadorian family.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: Um, Christian and Braxton figure out that they came from El Salvador to Los Angeles, and uh they learn that the family's son Alberto is being held captive in a prison camp in Juarez.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: Uh then Annace's background slash Edith.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: Her background is turns out her name's also Edith.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Also Edith, and she was she turns out she was the mom in the photo who had a terrible accident and acquired uh savant syndrome.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: So it's like six million dollar man, kind of, but yeah, but she comes out of surgery like super hot and with this yen to just crush people, yeah.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: Which I we'll get into that, but I didn't really understand that whole line of that, how that happened.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: Um uh but basically to figure her out, uh uh she tries to she ends up being contracted to murder uh the director Finsen, Mary Beth Medina, uh stabs her but does not actually kill her um because she she they have a fight and she sees a picture of her family on the wall and then she leaves.
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: Um and then everyone goes to the Juarez compound.
- 10:21SPEAKER_03: Um I I I gotta I gotta insert this part, right?
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: Because what what syndrome did she have?
- 10:29SPEAKER_03: It was do you remember?
- 10:31SPEAKER_03: They acquired Savon syndrome, which which you you could you could shorten to ASS, which I did uh of course immediately.
- 10:41SPEAKER_03: So with this badass syndrome, she was able to kick some ass.
- 10:45SPEAKER_03: It was pretty pretty wonderful.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: So so then they go, uh Christian and Braxton go down to Juarez to save all the kids, uh, just in the nick of time, apparently.
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: Got him.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: They were apparently it's really easy to find.
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: I don't know where you find henchmen.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Also, I don't know where you find henchmen are just like really chill about just murdering children.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Like, no big deal.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: They're all just gonna dig a mass grave and kill all these kids.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: That was pretty dark for me.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: That got like a little bit, yeah, and let's not forget this is all like on the on the back of just basic human traffic, not basic, I don't know even what you call it, just human trafficking with you know prostitution and just work uh forced labor and and that sort of thing, which is why all those kids were there to force the generally the mothers, because they popped all the fathers, I think, um, all the mothers to work in the US.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: So it it's a whole yeah, the this had a very dark undertone.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: It really did.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: And I was just, yeah, there were some parts where I was like, it's very dark, and I know there was supposed to be there was like lots of explosions and shooting and stuff, but there were like there was this house of kids that were being kept, and there were like so many people guarding this house with machine guns, and I didn't like what they were expecting.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: They were expecting Christian Wolf and Braxton like to show up, but almost as if, yeah, this is gonna show up.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: So they they save the kids, they save the day, uh, and they then get some of her memories back.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: She finds the guy who kidnapped them, who is Burke, who all along had been sort of the bad guy in the story, um, like peripherally, and her son gets taken to the Harbor Neuroscience Academy, uh, where uh Christian Wolf grew up, basically.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Christian Wolf grew up, and all of his hacker friends are there who have helped him throughout the story.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: Because they're all savants too.
- 12:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah, don't forget.
- 12:45SPEAKER_03: Yes, for some reason.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: For some reason, uh they're they're all savants who can hack uh hack the planet, and then Christian and Braxton.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: Never mind, that's a very specific reference.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: Um, and then Christian and Braxton get become become buds.
- 13:03SPEAKER_01: It's a it's a buddy, it's a buddy movie, it's a blow-up movie, it's a dark saving kids from it's got a message.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: I mean, I I I do love the fact that all the bad guys are real bad, and you nobody is sad at all, that all these dudes get it.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: And you know, it was it was basically like, okay, you know what?
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: We can't have Nazis anymore, so we're just gonna have these human trafficker guys.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: I think human traffickers might be like the new Nazis of the of video uh film, and that's you know what, that's okay with me.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: That's okay with me.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: I mean I'm gonna take the very controversial stand that human traffickers suck.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Also suck.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Also suck.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Also suck.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: Nazis suck, human traffickers suck.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: We're not fans.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: Oh, do we have the same might be 100%?
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: Um Jillan.
- 13:53SPEAKER_03: Dylan and Kylan.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: Let's dive into the accounting issues.
- 13:58SPEAKER_03: Let's I mean, we we better.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: So I mean it opens in FinSen.
- 14:03SPEAKER_03: So that's you know that's accounting going on there, for sure.
- 14:07SPEAKER_01: Sure, there's accounting.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, first it's just testing out shares, but you know there's accounting.
- 14:12SPEAKER_03: They don't really show any accounting, it's true.
- 14:14SPEAKER_03: Like, like none.
- 14:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: The the first time we see accounting type things happening is when he goes to the dating uh thing.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: And so he goes to the dating event, and you can see that all these women are lined up for him, and I immediately thought it was just because he was Ben Affleck and people tell me.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: Me too.
- 14:37SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, me too.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: And yes, uh, but apparently he had figured out the algorithm and reverse engineered it.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Now, Ben, I want to ask you about this because I am an accountant, a forensic accountant.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know how to reverse engineer an algorithm.
- 14:55SPEAKER_01: Like that's something that I should know.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: Is that something we don't know?
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: I mean, I you know, I don't I don't want to, you know, like put the spotlight on you, but like, can you spell algorithm?
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: I can spell algorithm.
- 15:08SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: I won't test you.
- 15:10SPEAKER_03: No, it's fine.
- 15:11SPEAKER_03: Um, the uh, but no, seriously though, like uh making a predictive model where you can you know find the most attractive traits or something from you know how how people have matched up before.
- 15:26SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: It was uh I tell you what though, wish I had that about 30 years ago, you know.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: Well, it didn't even work.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: It didn't work, it doesn't work.
- 15:36SPEAKER_03: Oh no, it worked, man.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: Did you see how many like 40-year-old you know middle-aged hotties were there?
- 15:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, they were all kind of for him.
- 15:43SPEAKER_03: None of them liked him because that's because he's unlikable.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, he's he's a little bit unlikable.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: He he's he's actually not he's not too bad.
- 15:52SPEAKER_03: He's he's not actually that unlikable, I agree.
- 15:55SPEAKER_03: So like you said, it's your type, so well, so that's I was gonna he's not my type.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: But I mean, the algorithm thing, I was like, uh, that's not really accounting.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: But then every time he's talking to these ladies, he's talking about depreciation.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, he was talking logic, lazy, you know, that's all that's a countless wheelhouse, man.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: Where I thought it was hot.
- 16:18SPEAKER_03: I mean, come on, like that was right there with you.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: Where where the ladies was like, Do you believe in true or love at first sight?
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and he's like, No, that's not logical.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, Absolutely, yes, my dude, for sure.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about logic, let's talk about depreciation.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I couldn't tell if what he was what he was he they had a little montage of him like telling all the ladies about a depreciation trick.
- 16:45SPEAKER_03: And I wasn't sure if I'm not sure if it's true, or you know, you don't have to go back and restate your you know, amend your tax return if you overtake depreciation, blah blah blah blah.
- 16:54SPEAKER_03: I don't know, but he thought it was very important, and he thought I mean he probably thought it was helpful.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I wish I could have gone back and been like, what is he exactly talking about?
- 17:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what code section is that?
- 17:04SPEAKER_03: Come on, man.
- 17:06SPEAKER_03: Give it up.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so that's just like so he has the the dating dating scene, then he meets Mary Beth.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, is that right?
- 17:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Mary Beth Medina.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: Their relationship is a little odd.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: I don't really understand why she I mean she finds him because she was told to.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: Well, she finds him because he she was told to, but like the the connection between Ray King and her is that Ray King was the original guy that uh Christian Wolfe was feeding all this information to.
- 17:43SPEAKER_03: Like, hey, here are all these bad dudes, they're doing bad things, and they had me investigate them, so here you go, find them.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: Then when he was retiring, apparently Mary Beth Mandina was the heir, and she got all those great leads, and now she's director because of it.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Well, like he must have told her about it because she's she figured out how to contact him like very easily with like yeah.
- 18:08SPEAKER_03: Well, she was in the I mean she was in the original movie, so I mean she she was at least around all of it, available for that, yeah.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: Um so she she's there with him, she wakes up with perfect makeup on in the morning.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you noticed that.
- 18:22SPEAKER_03: I I did not.
- 18:24SPEAKER_03: That is not a thing that I noticed.
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: She's like perfect anyway.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Um, and so then he's there, like they're staring at the wall with all the pictures and everything on it, and there's tax returns there, which is how he figures out how to connect her to the kid.
- 18:40SPEAKER_01: And I'd like to talk about this because I don't I I was a tax preparer for 15 years, and I did not understand what he was talking about.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: I got that the first two years had like a quarter of the amount of income as the third year or something, yes, like it went from like 14,000 or like you know, around 20 to 15.
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: 14, 14 to 60, the third year, yeah.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so it was like you know, I don't I don't remember exactly what what the but and then that she was like file claiming a dependency with the kid, right?
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: And then she was married filing separate.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I think I was trying to follow it, right?
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: So I was trying to follow it, and I was like, wait a minute, then we find out later that her husband was like murdered, yeah, and that the kid's in Juarez.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: So she's not married, she doesn't have a dependent that was just married.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: And what I was like, what did I miss?
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: I missed you.
- 19:49SPEAKER_03: You didn't miss anything.
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: I'm pretty, I mean, I I do want to go back immediately to the to that that segment and and look at it again, but I don't think you missed anything.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: I think that may just not that maybe just be some they had to figure out something to say to get the can dots connected and it wasn't wasn't really getting there.
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: I will say that being able to look at a series of tax returns like that and come up with a narrative, that's that's real, that's real business.
- 20:18SPEAKER_03: That's real forensics.
- 20:19SPEAKER_03: However, well, honestly, however, normally we're not looking at 1040 easy's.
- 20:23SPEAKER_03: Did you did you happen to notice that?
- 20:24SPEAKER_03: Those are 1040 easy.
- 20:26SPEAKER_03: Um, but the uh usually we're we're diving into you know a million pages or at least electronic pages of of uh of a tax return, but you can tell a lot of things, you know, going from year to year to year on a kind of a longitudinal basis.
- 20:41SPEAKER_03: What are we looking at here and making a making a narrative?
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean it made me think of like when I calculate marital standard of living, where I'm I'm looking at, you know, what were the parties earning during those years?
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: And was it even was there a spike?
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: If there's a spike in income, then you want to look into what the reason is for that.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: So that on that's its face, like, yes, I agree.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, I didn't understand the concept of how, like, and even what he said made sense, like, oh, she had a dependent, so she must have had the kid, and then her income went like this, so this must have happened.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: But I was like, wait, why would anyone and he was like, I am a hundred percent sure.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: I'm like, you yeah, why didn't why those things would have been happening, yeah.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: She would have also do I mean, I guess I mean undocumented people file tax returns.
- 21:32SPEAKER_03: Um generally, yeah.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: But as far as I know, why would she be claiming her son in Juarez?
- 21:39SPEAKER_01: I mean, just things like that.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: Um after that, still more accounting.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: So the the first half of this movie, there's some accounting accounting things.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, then he goes to the pizza the pizza place because he he somehow connects the dots.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: Like a pizza manufacturing place.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: Like I think, I think this dude, okay, I think this.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: This this guy who he doesn't really become important ever, except for he's kind of the US side linchpin for all this crap going on.
- 22:09SPEAKER_03: Um, I think he has several different businesses, right?
- 22:13SPEAKER_03: Because he had the sushi business or the the fishing business and then this pizza manufacturing business.
- 22:19SPEAKER_03: Or am I am I conf conflating two guys?
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: No, no, I think was Burke Burke was involved in all of this.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: He was like he had the fish business, yeah.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: And I think he was part of the pizza business.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: If we're wrong, let us know.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: But that's I thought he was kind of overarching on all of this stuff.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: But um one thing I noticed about Burke though is like for being this guy who's like the super bad guy who's got his hand in all these things, like he like really had some like squalid like living.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: Like it was like live, like his Oh, you know what?
- 23:00SPEAKER_03: You know what?
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: It's because you're you're right, but it's because it is actually two different guys.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: There's the first guy with the pizza who got his butt kicked, and then there's Burke, who's like the mastermind.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: They're kind of just I mean I just assume Burke was part of the pizza thing, and the guy running the pizza place was just like part of it, like he was the underlin.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: Some things are not totally clear in this movie.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: Also, not necessary for the plot.
- 23:28SPEAKER_03: Really not necessary.
- 23:28SPEAKER_03: Although the the fashion in which the pizza guy gets murdered is awesome.
- 23:34SPEAKER_03: I I'll I'll leave that as a as a tiny little Easter egg there.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: Did the pizza guy get murdered?
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, Christian totally pops him.
- 23:43SPEAKER_03: He's he's done.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: I remember that.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm gonna have to like watch this again.
- 23:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: I just remember that I remember them going to the pizza place and to get back on an accounting issue.
- 23:53SPEAKER_03: Sorry.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, that's talking about other stuff, but I want to, I just well, like the pizza place, they're all running these pizzas through, and he actually does something very like forensic accounting that I would actually do, which is something that I talk about when when when attorneys call me and say, Hey, how do I figure out if this person's underreporting their income?
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: And one of the ways is to look at things like how much you would expect them to make based on what they're producing and what they can make.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: So, like, usually my example is a laundromat, you know, because it's really easy to kind of skim quarters and from a laundromat or whatever.
- 24:35SPEAKER_03: Cash, cash business, right?
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: It's cash, any kind, any cash business.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: But like the the laundromat's an easy example because you can look at uh their water belt and you can look at that as a function of revenues or or a restaurant where you can know how many tables are supposed to turn over in the app.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, this is very similar to that.
- 24:54SPEAKER_03: You count the napkins.
- 24:55SPEAKER_03: Actually, you know, that that reminds me of uh uh one of my old mentors, uh uh Steve Reese, RIP.
- 25:01SPEAKER_03: Uh he uh he he always had a story about um doing a forensic investigation on a I think it was a a uh uh uh hotel service, uh uh food service, where uh he ended up counting all the napkins, and that was you know how they how led them to the to the thing.
- 25:18SPEAKER_03: Maybe he made it up, but it sounded super good when he said it.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: But it's true.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, those are those are things that you can do looking at that kind of stuff.
- 25:27SPEAKER_01: Um the the thing that threw me off was the the the pizza guy said, Oh, ask me anything about the books and I will I'll know it.
- 25:39SPEAKER_01: And he asked him what his e-bit doll was.
- 25:41SPEAKER_03: No, he didn't, right?
- 25:43SPEAKER_03: He did it, no, he said he spelled it out.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, he said, yeah, readings before ring him, that you know, depreciation, whatever.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: He said the whole thing, right?
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: And uh, which nobody does if you're but I guess if you're speaking to someone who you think is the lay person, you would you would spell it out.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: But the guy knew off the top of his head what is like, yeah, 4.3 million dollars.
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: Okay, really?
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: I would not know the answer to that question.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: Well, plus, it that sounded like a pretty amazing pizza business, I gotta say.
- 26:14SPEAKER_03: So to be clear, what what he caught him at was overstating his in his his revenue and his uh taxable net income so that he could launder from other businesses, right?
- 26:26SPEAKER_03: And the other businesses uh turned out to be the track, you know, human trafficking part.
- 26:31SPEAKER_03: But this guy's talking about this this pizza place doing you know two-thirds of his business delivery, blah, blah, blah, but making like 20 million dollars or something.
- 26:41SPEAKER_03: I maybe I don't know.
- 26:44SPEAKER_03: I I mean when I've seen pizza businesses, they're not quite that affluent.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: I also didn't understand why they had delivery and he was talking about selling slices, but they had like an assembly line.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: It was crazy.
- 26:55SPEAKER_01: Is it frozen pizza?
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: Like, what's that?
- 26:57SPEAKER_03: It looked like maybe they were making frozen.
- 26:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I agreed.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: Why is he talking about delivery?
- 27:01SPEAKER_01: And like it was just very confusing.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Um, but either way, like I but I think you're right that what he's talking about here is money laundering, which is where you're looking for over-reporting.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: Uh, whereas if you're looking for, you know, someone trying to maybe reduce their income available for support in my case, or different kind of fraud, reduce the value of their business for one purpose or the other.
- 27:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's the it's the other way around.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: Um so I I thought that was kind of interesting.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: That's about where the forensic accounting issues end.
- 27:37SPEAKER_03: Yep, yep, yep, yep.
- 27:38SPEAKER_03: Um, golly, you know, I'm trying to trying to even think because you know, uh in the first one, there was a lot of like corporate governance kind of discussion, you know, about you know, we we we could have discussion about like, you know, what was missed, what would normally be done, yada, yada, yada.
- 27:54SPEAKER_03: But this one is just kind of a straight up, there's some bad stuff going on, and he's gotta find it out, you know, in a mystery, which he which he does.
- 28:02SPEAKER_03: So it was good.
- 28:04SPEAKER_03: They but there's a lot of you know, cyber security stuff, I will say.
- 28:07SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, let's talk about that.
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about the cybersecurity stuff.
- 28:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: Um, no way did they hack some random.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: So, first of all, some random lady takes a selfie right when the assassin walks by, just by chance.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: They see her on the camera, they're able to figure out who she is, hack her phone, get into her computer through her electricity bill or something.
- 28:35SPEAKER_03: I think her smart thermostat.
- 28:37SPEAKER_03: So you're you're apparently your nest can can figure out how to get on the computer.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: Get into her computer and then somehow get onto her pictures and like scroll through quickly while they distract.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, that part was to me bonkers.
- 28:52SPEAKER_03: I mean I I'm paranoid enough to think that maybe that's true, which is why I don't have any smart anything in my house.
- 29:01SPEAKER_03: However, I'm sh I don't know.
- 29:04SPEAKER_03: That's a that's a dang stretch.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: That was a stretch.
- 29:08SPEAKER_03: And and of course, you know, who's doing it, right?
- 29:10SPEAKER_03: Is all these uh all all the uh residents of the was it Haven um Neuroscience Institute?
- 29:19SPEAKER_03: I can't remember where where uh Christian uh grew up.
- 29:22SPEAKER_03: Basically, it's it's full of autistic people with children.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: Harbor, sorry, harbor, haven't harbor, same thing, say safe harbor, safe haven, um neuroscience academy.
- 29:33SPEAKER_03: So they uh but apparently, and I don't know, they don't they don't make it clear whether the administration there actually knows about this, but they have a digital war room somewhere in the in the bowels of this, you know uh uh Professor Xavier's freaking mansion, right?
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: Um I was like, why are they all just in this room all the time?
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: Are they like working at what's happening?
- 30:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, okay, uh so his his his handler, Christian's handler, is one of his old friends from the harbor uh uh academy, which is great.
- 30:12SPEAKER_03: And she was, you know, doing the money penny thing with you know on her computer, you know, much like this setup that we're looking at right here, and you know, would would so I I was like, okay, I can buy that.
- 30:21SPEAKER_03: You know, she's on her computer, she's doing her computer thing, it's great.
- 30:25SPEAKER_03: But then, yeah, they they open up on this cave, this back cave of freaking uh hundreds of uh screens and monitors and just people doing everything.
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: They can hack into you know predator drones, they can hack into somebody's cell phone and all the they they can find footage that you know the the police and every everybody else cannot find and all that stuff.
- 30:51SPEAKER_03: So look, it's a movie.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll just leave it.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: It's a movie, but my disbelief was suspended.
- 30:58SPEAKER_03: That was that was a big one.
- 30:59SPEAKER_03: That like if even it, you know what, even if they had all the kids there doing it just on their laptop or whatever, that would have been better, I think.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: Also, why does this harbor academy have like the greatest like bandwidth of any?
- 31:15SPEAKER_03: Oh, for real.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: Apparently, they're just they're their Wi-Fi is amazing.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: So that's like why are they all I mean?
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: I guess I get it now that I realize like they were at the academy, but I was like, why are they all geographically in the same place?
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: Like that's not necessary for hacking stuff, but I it's it's part of that.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: But they did happen to be, yeah, they didn't have to be have to be in this academy.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: Um there's the line.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: I would okay, I would almost say that this is an accounting thing where they go to the bar, the brother, and Christian.
- 31:55SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna follow you here.
- 31:56SPEAKER_03: What are you talking about?
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: Let's do it.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: And he's watching people line dance, and that's when he realized, oh, I can do that.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: Where I was like, oh, because like he's not cool, but he can like follow instructions, and I was like, okay, I can see where like well I yeah, you're right.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: And and I think that has to do with kind of how at least certain uh expressions of uh ASD autism uh disorder can um autism spectrum disorder, sorry about that, can um can be found and is kind of somewhat parallel to some of the things that you know also make accountants good at what they do, certain accounts good at what they do, is the pattern recognition, the um, you know, really having a uh a mind towards procedure and steps and logic and that sort of thing.
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: Now we know, in fact, I'm gonna let let's just let's just go there.
- 32:53SPEAKER_03: I mean, you know, there are I've known a bunch of accountants who arguably could be on the autism spectrum.
- 33:02SPEAKER_03: Um I don't know, nobody knows, nobody cares.
- 33:05SPEAKER_03: But at the end of the day, you know, whether they're just shy or actually neurodivergent or whatever, sometimes those same uh uh characteristics are really good at you know uh uh doing accounting tasks.
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: So it it makes sense.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: I love putting numbers in columns, I do, I want those columns to balance even.
- 33:26SPEAKER_03: It's amazing.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: And also, uh, my wife sometimes says I am on the spectrum too.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: So whatever.
- 33:32SPEAKER_01: Um you're not formally diagnosed.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: I know, no, exactly.
- 33:36SPEAKER_03: Um, and you know, okay.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: I'm just saying speaking as someone who is formally diagnosed neurodivergent uh with uh ADHD, not not autism spectrum disorder.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, I do see that where, you know, we we have uh brains that do different things and see things a little bit differently than maybe our uh neurotypical brethren.
- 34:01SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I tell you, like it is really hard to go either side of that and and use it use a term that doesn't make somebody feel like crap, right?
- 34:08SPEAKER_03: Neurotypical.
- 34:09SPEAKER_03: Oh, you're not you know, you're you're the fat part of the bell curve, baby.
- 34:14SPEAKER_03: Uh you're neurodivergent.
- 34:17SPEAKER_03: Is that good?
- 34:17SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's not non-neurotypical, which is inherently bad too, I guess.
- 34:21SPEAKER_03: So I don't know.
- 34:22SPEAKER_03: No, nobody feels good come out of that.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: But I think it's good, I see it as a a bit of a superpower.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, like, you know, it helps it helps me with very specific things in my life.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: So I don't see anything wrong with it.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: I mean, obviously, I don't, you know, but well, it's it's you and your your excellent social skills.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: So one thing I I wanted to really point out though is you know, for forensic accounting in particular, accounting overall and forensic accounting in particular, actually, you really, really, really have to be able to work with people and read them and interpret what they're trying to tell you because they don't know half the time.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: Um, you have to be able to then communicate the findings that you have, and you have to be able to talk about the story in a clear way.
- 35:05SPEAKER_03: So, like infographics and getting to the really simplifying pretty complex transactions and such into very simple terms, not because other people don't you know are stupid, but because they don't know the things that that we know.
- 35:18SPEAKER_03: And so when you're talking to a judge or a jury or an attorney, um it really does have to be in a in a in a way that makes sense to you know, I'll say a normal person, not you know, people like us.
- 35:35SPEAKER_03: Um you know, although like I will say, forensic accountants do tend to be exceptional even within accounting.
- 35:41SPEAKER_03: And I'm and I'm gonna I'm gonna own this one and you know, fight me.
- 35:45SPEAKER_03: The they're the outgoing ones of the accountants, you know, they're the ones who are gonna you know look at your shoes when they talk, you know, that kind of thing.
- 35:55SPEAKER_03: Um I think it is because not only do you have to have all those skills and those traits and characteristics, but you do have to be able to socialize and communicate and all those things on top of it.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: So the I will give you a little bit of pushback on that because while I agree that if you are the client-facing person, uh, you know, or or you're looking to testify, for sure you need all that.
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: But you know, you if you are just doing the analytics and everything, uh, you know, again, might be a superpower to, you know, you're maybe you're not able to uh communicate that effectively through you know language and and and reading people, but maybe you make beautiful spreadsheets, which I am always a big fan of.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: All right, calm down.
- 36:46SPEAKER_03: No, the uh hey, look, you know, I'm not sure what I was talking to you about this, but I mean, back back when uh my wife and I were getting married.
- 36:56SPEAKER_03: Well, we had I, excuse me, put our invite list on a spreadsheet, color-coded and everything.
- 37:01SPEAKER_03: It was amazing.
- 37:02SPEAKER_03: Loved it.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: Everything I have everything on the spreadsheet.
- 37:04SPEAKER_01: I have a karaoke list on the spreadsheet.
- 37:06SPEAKER_03: Oh, oh, you did.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: I'll I'll send it to you.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: Every time we go on vacation, put on the spreadsheet.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: Anyway, we're getting way off topic.
- 37:14SPEAKER_03: Well, we're getting a little off topic, a little personal here, I guess.
- 37:17SPEAKER_03: Well, what one of the other things, though?
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, point taken, and you're right, you know, that there's absolutely room uh for everyone, but there's room for everyone on a team.
- 37:27SPEAKER_03: And I will say that's that's kind of the the point and counterpoint here is that nobody's nobody's really doing the Christian Wolf thing and just doing it by themselves.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: There's always a team, it doesn't happen overnight.
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: You're working on you know millions of transactions, hundreds of thousands of transactions, and you are you know you you are working hard together to make it work.
- 37:49SPEAKER_03: So, I mean, somebody who's like completely antisocial probably wouldn't be a good forensic accountant.
- 37:54SPEAKER_03: On the other hand, on the other hand, you know, you don't you don't have to be a social butterfly, maybe if you want to be that testifying expert.
- 38:02SPEAKER_03: I don't know, but uh but at the end of the day, no, it's a team.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: Um, I mean, and you know, maybe that's maybe that's the theme of the movie, right?
- 38:10SPEAKER_03: Daredevil and the Punisher team up at the end and kick some butt, and it was great.
- 38:14SPEAKER_03: And I did, I did very much enjoy, you know, all the all the blowing up and grenades and all the stuff.
- 38:21SPEAKER_03: It was that was pretty cool too.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: Well, and he seems to do better when they're together as a team, you know.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: They go line dancing, uh, he he gets the girl's number, you know, he comes out of his shell a little bit with his brother there.
- 38:34SPEAKER_01: Um, but uh yeah, I I just the second half of the movie when we were talking about you know the accounting pieces, the second half of the movie went real sideways for me with like I mean it was great.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: It was great, but it was just nothing made sense after that point.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: They were like, I I kept I kept thinking like is there like like I said earlier, like is there a henchmen store where you get these henchmen?
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: Why are there so many guys guards?
- 39:04SPEAKER_03: Oh shoot.
- 39:04SPEAKER_03: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 39:06SPEAKER_03: Maybe maybe those guys, those mercenaries, maybe they're trafficked too.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: They were also trafficked, maybe they were trafficked to be mercenaries.
- 39:14SPEAKER_03: Oh, I guess that doesn't hold up.
- 39:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, okay.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Like, why were they so willing to murder children?
- 39:20SPEAKER_01: Like, that seemed insane to me.
- 39:21SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, that's not cool.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: Um and like, and then just random thoughts.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: Why were there so many barrels at this place?
- 39:30SPEAKER_03: There were a million barrels.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: They were like, hide behind barrels, rolling around, there's open everywhere they can do it.
- 39:37SPEAKER_03: Bulletproof barrels, right?
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: I mean, they were bulletproof tires.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you can also shoot through the walls, but not if they were standing by them.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: Right, right, right.
- 39:49SPEAKER_01: You can see bullet holes in the walls with light shining through, but not when you're standing behind the wall.
- 39:54SPEAKER_03: You're correct.
- 39:54SPEAKER_03: Um, and then at one point I wrote down They were a little bit too bulletproof for for my taste.
- 39:58SPEAKER_03: I I will say a little bit, a little bit.
- 40:00SPEAKER_01: But they they weren't up high, only down low where they were.
- 40:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, well, I just I just meant the the protagonists were too bulletproof.
- 40:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean Braxton gets shot in the arm, whatever.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: And then the guy when the guy goes to shoot him, he stands there and points the gun gun at his head and like starts swearing at him in Spanish.
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: Why why is he doing why is he monologuing?
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: What's happening?
- 40:23SPEAKER_01: You know what happens when you monologue.
- 40:25SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: Well, you know, maybe he's never seen the movies.
- 40:28SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 40:29SPEAKER_01: Maybe ah and and then I wrote, still no accounting.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: Why isn't there more accounting?
- 40:37SPEAKER_01: And and then my last uh note was crime scene chair, because she finally finds a chair that she likes.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: Are you allowed to take home things from a crime scene?
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Is that just like how the federal government works?
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: You just show it a crime.
- 40:55SPEAKER_03: Now that's an open question.
- 40:56SPEAKER_03: Now, now here's comfy.
- 40:58SPEAKER_03: This is a legit question, I think.
- 40:59SPEAKER_03: Because well, I mean, first off, if you're gonna be like, you know, the the the main villain, you're gonna have a nice chair, right?
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: First off, so that makes that makes sense.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: That tracks, but then like a Herman Miller, those things are expensive.
- 41:10SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, she had she had good options too, for sure.
- 41:12SPEAKER_03: The um, I don't know who gets the stuff after a crime scene is processed and done.
- 41:21SPEAKER_03: So, but I mean it's gonna be years, right?
- 41:22SPEAKER_03: But like after that, where does it go?
- 41:25SPEAKER_03: Does it just get destroyed?
- 41:26SPEAKER_03: Does it get auctioned off?
- 41:28SPEAKER_03: I think it gets auctioned off.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: Why didn't she just look at the tag of the chair and brand it was?
- 41:34SPEAKER_03: And then she's the director, she can afford it, she can buy one.
- 41:38SPEAKER_01: So that was the end of the movie where she finds her chair, and it's like, yeah.
- 41:42SPEAKER_01: And then and then the boys ride off into the sunset to go hiking, apparently, because they're oh, and then the the kid, they do save the kid, great stuff, good stuff there.
- 41:53SPEAKER_03: And somehow, from a picture, Christian Wolf decides that he is this kid is also autistic.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: How I didn't understand that either.
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: I was like, why he's one of us, is what he says, right?
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, How do you know that?
- 42:13SPEAKER_03: You don't know that, but it turns out totally true because the kid is on his way to Harbor Academy to be an X-Man, and like I I don't know what I don't get it.
- 42:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah, but that's fine, that's fine.
- 42:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he he got saved, that was the important thing.
- 42:29SPEAKER_01: He got saved somehow through the tax returns, you find out that he's connected, and then through his picture, you know that he belongs to Harbor Neuro whatever academy, neuroscience.
- 42:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the NSA, apparently.
- 42:45SPEAKER_03: No, HSA.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: No, health safe, yeah, right, right.
- 42:49SPEAKER_03: HSA.
- 42:51SPEAKER_03: Um the only thing I want to, yeah, I I wanna you know part with is I do think that on the one hand, it's nice that uh neurodivergent people have a a really cool superhero, basically.
- 43:08SPEAKER_03: I mean, he's he's basically a superhero, right?
- 43:11SPEAKER_03: He I don't even think he barely gets hurt in this film.
- 43:13SPEAKER_03: I don't I don't even know if he does.
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: You know, I mean Burnthal gets messed up, but uh but Ben Affleck doesn't.
- 43:23SPEAKER_03: Um the the only problem with that is because him and even all the kids at Harbor, they're all kind of superhero, and basically they all have these, you know, they're all savants, and they're all blah blah blah blah blah.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: Whereas, I mean, that's just not real life.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: I mean, just because you may have a disability doesn't mean you have to be, you know, a superhero to compensate, you know what I mean?
- 43:45SPEAKER_01: But like most people also don't have a grenade launcher in their airstream, so totally real life is not not where we're going with this.
- 43:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, I would, but yeah, it's but I I think I think the repres representation is good.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: Uh positive.
- 44:04SPEAKER_03: It is positive.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: It's positive, except he murders people, not not great, not great.
- 44:10SPEAKER_03: He well, okay.
- 44:12SPEAKER_03: He he he homicides people, he kills people.
- 44:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's not necessarily murder, always sometimes it's murder.
- 44:19SPEAKER_01: Still murder, anyway.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, we also we didn't even talk about the um sniper guy who for some reason has like really bad time.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: Like he just why would you murder somebody while they're in?
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: Why wouldn't you do it at a different time when you were less likely to do it?
- 44:35SPEAKER_03: When he was in the trunk or something, yeah.
- 44:37SPEAKER_03: And oh oh sorry, now no, now you now you triggered me.
- 44:40unknown: Sorry.
- 44:42SPEAKER_03: Maybe I'm wrong.
- 44:43SPEAKER_03: Somebody call me on this, but it looked like that dude had a bolt action rifle and he goes like it's a less like it's a semi-automatic.
- 44:51SPEAKER_03: And I did not like that one bit.
- 44:53SPEAKER_03: If somebody knows more than I do on this one, please fix me because uh just kind of burnt my brain.
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: Well, lots of movies, you know.
- 45:06SPEAKER_03: Anyway, okay, yeah, well, great.
- 45:08SPEAKER_03: Uh did you want to add anything else?
- 45:10SPEAKER_03: I think I'm out.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: Uh, I don't think so.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: I think it just, you know, it was a fun time.
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: Uh I I always love seeing stuff blow up and guys punching.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: I wish there was a little bit more of the like guys getting surprised that uh that Christian Wolfe is like a crazy fighter.
- 45:29SPEAKER_03: Total badass, yeah.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: I love underestimating people.
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: That's one of my favorite tropes in a movie, where it's like he's this guy and he kind of is socially awkward and he's very smart, and so people are like, oh, like he's a nerd and he can't do things, and then he kicks your butt.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: Like I yeah, like I want more of that.
- 45:48SPEAKER_03: I I wasn't totally buying the the Clark Kent of that character so much because I'm like, yeah, he still looks huge.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: Like I think in that in that in that bar scene, uh where when they're just about to get into the fight with that that cowboy guy, yeah, I think the cowboy guy was looking up at him, which is fine, right?
- 46:10SPEAKER_03: I look up at everybody, however, like it it it wasn't like you know, he's like a five foot two little nothing dude with you know with glass, he wasn't me.
- 46:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and thinking I'm gonna take this dude out.
- 46:23SPEAKER_03: He was looking at this big old tall guy who's kind of jacked, right?
- 46:26SPEAKER_03: And and thinking, okay, I can take this guy.
- 46:29SPEAKER_03: Maybe you can, but also maybe you can't, maybe it's just because you're drunk.
- 46:33unknown: I don't know.
- 46:33SPEAKER_01: It wasn't like everything everywhere all at once, where you're just like, yeah, like little guy beating up everybody.
- 46:40SPEAKER_03: Well, short round.
- 46:42SPEAKER_03: Um anyway.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: Okay, well, cool.
- 46:45SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm I'm so glad we got to do this.
- 46:48SPEAKER_03: Uh, this was really, really fun.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: Maybe, maybe we'll go back and do the original one.
- 46:51SPEAKER_03: Um, and actually, honestly, here's hoping that they do uh the accountant three, and we'll do that in well, maybe nine years, uh, however, however long it'll take them.
- 47:01SPEAKER_03: However long it takes them.
- 47:03SPEAKER_03: Um, but in the meantime, uh, thank you very much and uh listen in for the next Max Valley Podcast.
