Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Few signs that you know you're getting older. I watched
- 0:02Speaker 1: a movie on Sunday with the group of friends. Here
- 0:05Speaker 1: are twelve things I learned. One, I wasn't hungover on
- 0:08Speaker 1: the couch, Uber eats and McDonald's from the sofa. That's
- 0:11Speaker 1: a sign that you're getting older. Number two. I took
- 0:14Speaker 1: the extraordinary measure of walking to the movies using perfectly
- 0:18Speaker 1: capable legs, even though they are a bit stiff, bit
- 0:20Speaker 1: sore from the gym. Three. This means you have visited
- 0:24Speaker 1: the gym four times this week to ensure that your
- 0:27Speaker 1: ass will squeeze into that ever shrinking seat that they
- 0:31Speaker 1: put you in at the movies. Four. You chat amongst
- 0:33Speaker 1: yourselves quite loudly while the shorts are playing, because well,
- 0:36Speaker 1: you just don't give a flying shit about that level
- 0:39Speaker 1: of decorum any longer, do you. Nobody paid for the shorts.
- 0:42Speaker 1: They paid for the film. The rest is marketing. Five.
- 0:46Speaker 1: The short you do watch has Leonardo DiCaprio, heart Throb
- 0:49Speaker 1: of youth, playing the cantankerous father figure, and a group
- 0:53Speaker 1: of young actors the children, and you have no idea
- 0:56Speaker 1: who they are. Five You feel nostalgia. The movie is
- 1:00Speaker 1: set in the early two thousands. Six, You feel the
- 1:03Speaker 1: young actors replicating the style of the clothes, the hair
- 1:07Speaker 1: bit lame, copying what we clearly did better. Eight. One
- 1:11Speaker 1: of your friends has a moon boot on after a
- 1:14Speaker 1: fall that he took while we were out walking over
- 1:17Speaker 1: the weekend prior eight. At nine, you can't count. You
- 1:23Speaker 1: love the movie Caught Stealing with Austin Butler. You should
- 1:25Speaker 1: go and see it if you haven't, not just because
- 1:26Speaker 1: it's good and it's a simple, hearty action thriller, but
- 1:30Speaker 1: because it's only an hour and a half long. Ten
- 1:33Speaker 1: That means only one toilet break, because it's impossible to
- 1:37Speaker 1: sit on six hundred and sixty miles of fizzy water
- 1:39Speaker 1: without the feeling that your bladder might explode into a
- 1:42Speaker 1: thousand pieces. Eleven The time frame is just enough before
- 1:47Speaker 1: you need to rearrange because you've got back pains, always
- 1:51Speaker 1: of sign you're getting older. Twelve are most importantly, you laugh,
- 1:55Speaker 1: You're enthralled, you have a good time. You feel pretty
- 1:58Speaker 1: content sitting there in the dark with your buddy, happy
- 2:00Speaker 1: in the knowledge that any worries you had going in
- 2:03Speaker 1: are a world away from the grungey Lower East Side
- 2:06Speaker 1: of Manhattan, where the film is set. It's the little
- 2:08Speaker 1: things you notice that paint a picture of where your
- 2:11Speaker 1: life is at, how old you are, and how you
- 2:13Speaker 1: fit into the world of ever changing demographics. It's a
- 2:17Speaker 1: reminder to enjoy the good moments in life and the
- 2:20Speaker 1: people that make you happy, because one day we'll either
- 2:23Speaker 1: have dementia or be dead. Here's to middle age, halfway
- 2:28Speaker 1: dead and just fine with that. For more from Early
