- Jessica Figueroa: Hello again. I hope you've gotten into the habit of making this one of the first things you listen to in the first hour of your day so that our mind is spinning and thinking on things throughout the day. Today we're going to talk about belonging. One of our strongest desires is to belong. We have this innate desire to belong, and it often controls what we do and the decisions me we make. If you're ever curious about that, just watch children under the age of five. Man, do they want to belong? They want to go out on the playground, they want to meet friends when you take them to a park. They want to belong. And you see this all through childhood and adolescence. They want to belong. So they all buy the same shorts and the same shirt and do the same hairstyle. And what they're really trying to do is belong. But as Christians, we already belong. We already belong in this family God has called us to. And there's nothing wrong with fitting in here and having proper etiquette, but it's when this desire to belong controls us that it can start being a decision maker we do not want. So today, what groups do you belong to? Do you belong to a men's bowling league? Do you belong to a women, a women's Bible study? Do you belong to a grief group? Do you belong to a 12-step group? Where do you belong? Where are places that you belong And are they serving you? So if you're committing to them and you belong there and you bel you're getting this need fulfilled, sometimes you'll stay longer than you're supposed to because it just feels so good to belong. But God has somewhere else He needs you to belong. Sometimes someone took you in and you just love so much that you feel belonged there that you you're not asking deeper questions or the hard questions. So, knowing that we have this super strong desire to belong is all you need to do in order to keep it in check. Because you already belong. I'm here to tell you, you already belong to the only person that matters that you belong to them. And no one ever said it wasn't going to be a lonely life. Loneliness is a part of our life here on earth. There's no avoiding it. And it's a yucky feeling, but so is a stomach ache, right? So we don't have stomach aches. And get all down and out about it. You're just like, why? Because you know the stomach ache's going to end. Well, it's the same thing with loneliness. It's going to end. It's a feeling that will pass throughout the day in moments, sometimes in the same hour. You feel lonely for 15 minutes and then you got a text. And now you don't feel lonely. But let's be careful about what we're doing just to belong and remember who we belong to. I love you guys. Bye.
