- 0:00Speaker 1: The government's new tourism campaign targeted at Australians I think
- 0:03Speaker 1: is a no brainer. A simple test is comparing how
- 0:07Speaker 1: many New Zealanders have visited Australia compared to how many
- 0:10Speaker 1: Australians have come here. I remember being at a conference
- 0:12Speaker 1: a while back in Sydney and we were asking around
- 0:14Speaker 1: the room how many of you have been to New Zealand.
- 0:16Speaker 1: They were done, and yet I then asked how many
- 0:19Speaker 1: of you guys have been to Queensland. Well, they all
- 0:22Speaker 1: had been, including me. You see, for Kiwi's it's a
- 0:26Speaker 1: right of passage to visit Australia, but it's not a
- 0:29Speaker 1: right of passage for Ossie's to come here. So imploring
- 0:32Speaker 1: everyone to come here, in fact, saying everyone must come here,
- 0:36Speaker 1: I think is a good thing. Shame on the Labor
- 0:38Speaker 1: spokesperson who was on the Telly last night who seemed
- 0:40Speaker 1: to think such a plea was desperate. I'm sorry, it's
- 0:43Speaker 1: not desperate. It's just got a bit of energy about it.
- 0:47Speaker 1: If we can imbue the belief in Australia that a
- 0:50Speaker 1: visit to New Zealander is must, then that will continue
- 0:53Speaker 1: to pay its way for generations. It's the same for
- 0:56Speaker 1: European visitors, the people I know who came here from
- 0:59Speaker 1: Europe for their own and became my friends here, and
- 1:01Speaker 1: now the parents of kids who then return. The kids
- 1:05Speaker 1: having heard the legends from mum Zoe and New Zealand
- 1:08Speaker 1: are the ones who come back. My partner Zoe was
- 1:10Speaker 1: in Germany and her friends' children's are the ones who
- 1:14Speaker 1: have come to New Zealand to find more found out
- 1:17Speaker 1: more about the exotic foreigner who landed in their parents' mints.
- 1:21Speaker 1: So it's important to remember that every time we go
- 1:23Speaker 1: overseas and meet others, we go as ambassadors and we
- 1:26Speaker 1: promote repeat business of inbound tourism here. But for everywhere
- 1:30Speaker 1: aside from Australia, we are still a major trip with
- 1:33Speaker 1: big journeys and big bills. So Australia is very cheap
- 1:36Speaker 1: and very important for Australians. We're a three hour flight.
- 1:39Speaker 1: We're just like them, We speak the same language as them,
- 1:42Speaker 1: but we're exotically different. Our scenic delights are delightful, and
- 1:46Speaker 1: thanks to our stuttering economy and dommer, we're relatively cheap
- 1:49Speaker 1: as chips. Of course, everyone there must come here and
- 1:53Speaker 1: their children and their children's children and so on. In fact,
- 1:56Speaker 1: this is our campaign that should never stop. This is
- 2:00Speaker 1: a campaign that we need to renew year after year
- 2:04Speaker 1: after year. For more from Early Edition with Ryan Bridge,
