- 0:00Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:03access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine
- 0:07issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:10hypnotherapist, demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:14royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:40Hi, it's Adam here. And in this episode of The
- 0:43Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session.
- 0:46Created for a. Client that had very extreme
- 0:51anxiety and any kind of clinic or doctor or hospital
- 0:55appointments and it came as a result of a panic attack they
- 0:59had while in a clinic undergoing fairly routine tests.
- 1:04But because of that panic attack, they then would worry.
- 1:08That they would. Experience the anxiety again and
- 1:11you get this very strange paradox when it comes to
- 1:14anxiety. Is that quite often your body's
- 1:17getting anxious about something that could lead to anxiety,
- 1:20which then creates the very anxiety you're looking to avoid.
- 1:24And that sounds weird unless you're living with it and then
- 1:27it's very real. So this client had a period
- 1:31before that time, which was about 10 years ago, that they
- 1:34were completely blase and ambivalent about having any kind
- 1:38of medical test. It was just routine.
- 1:40But it wasn't that more recently and they were using avoidance as
- 1:43a way. To cope.
- 1:45Unfortunately, avoidance just reaffirms this idea that you
- 1:49can't cope, and in this hypnosis you'll.
- 1:52Hear an analogy? Of the monster under the bed,
- 1:54which has a subtle. Element of regression.
- 1:58Because a lot of children are scared about things when there's
- 2:01nothing to be. Scared of but.
- 2:02Their fear prevents them from. Confirming that.
- 2:05That fear is invalid, if that makes sense.
- 2:09So the monster under the bed is just a an.
- 2:10Analogy this client. Didn't have a fear of monsters
- 2:13under the bed, they had a fear of medical appointments.
- 2:16But it's a good way of. Getting them into this mindset
- 2:19of what if this fear isn't real and what if they've just got
- 2:22inside their own head and created a self fulfilling
- 2:26prophecy. There is elements of parts
- 2:29therapy in this elements of direct suggestion of
- 2:32disassociation of timeline and also coping strategies like
- 2:38breathing out feeling of anxiety.
- 2:41So if you do have a fear of. Doctors, hospitals, medical
- 2:46appointments. You might.
- 2:47Benefit more than if you don't have those fears, but even if
- 2:51you have a fear of something else similar, like a dentist or
- 2:54perhaps a different kind of meeting or something like that.
- 2:57Just get. Into this idea that you want to
- 3:00feel resourceful to do the thing even if you feel anxious, but
- 3:05you're disassociating from the anxiety and then you'll benefit
- 3:08more from this session. Of course this was created.
- 3:11For a very specific individual, references to the music and that
- 3:15kind of stuff to anchor resourceful states was all
- 3:18related. To them, because that was.
- 3:20Their experience. But if you like the idea of a
- 3:22bespoke session created for you, there will be a link in the show
- 3:26notes. Or you can check out my website
- 3:27adamcox.co.uk. You'll see a link there to book
- 3:30a free consultation call and then we can have a chat to see
- 3:33if I'm the right hypnotherapist for you.
- 3:35For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you
- 3:38won't be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 4:27Take a deep breath in and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:36feeling of resourceful relaxation.
- 4:41And as you exhale, just allow any feelings of tension, worry,
- 4:51or anxiety to start to feel like they're melting away and leaving
- 4:59your body in that outward breath, breathing in relaxation
- 5:14and continuing to feel that any anxiety is melting away.
- 5:22Start to scan your body for any clues of where that anxiety has
- 5:28been hiding. Sometimes the chest, sometimes
- 5:35the gut. As you breathe in that
- 5:39relaxation, give it a colour, a bright colour, a powerful
- 5:45colour. And as you breathe in, imagine
- 5:48breathing in that resourceful relaxation.
- 5:54And this resourceful relaxation makes you feel good.
- 6:00And when you feel good, that anxiety is just melting away.
- 6:07And as it melts away, see it or feel it.
- 6:13Leave your body in your outward breath like a grey shadowy
- 6:18colour and consider breathing in deeply like a transfusion of
- 6:25emotion. Breathing and relaxation that
- 6:32makes you feel good and feeling good melts away the anxiety and
- 6:40feel feel it leaving your body as you breathe out and therefore
- 6:51the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you become, and the more
- 6:57relaxed you become, the deeper you breathe.
- 7:04Consider it an ongoing transfusion of emotion.
- 7:17Maybe you can feel that the anxiety, wherever it was, is
- 7:22getting smaller or less intense. Maybe that feeling of feeling
- 7:30good starts to expand, enabling you to feel even better.
- 7:44It almost feels like you're accessing a Zen state.
- 7:51A state where breath by breath you feel better and better and
- 7:58the anxiety is leaving your body.
- 8:04I want you to get a sense then something happened in your past
- 8:12that led your brain to try and protect you, and that's a
- 8:19wonderful intention. The fact that you're unconscious
- 8:25wants to keep you safe is magnificent.
- 8:32But sometimes people can have good intentions delivered badly.
- 8:38Everyone knows someone where their heart's in the right
- 8:42place. They only want to do good.
- 8:44But sometimes by trying to do those good things, they make
- 8:50things worse. And I want you to consider that
- 8:54there is a part within you that in trying to protect you from
- 9:01panic or anxiety, is actually leading to more of it.
- 9:09And I want you to thank that part for its intention, while
- 9:16still not appreciating the strategy that they're using to
- 9:23implement that intention. Perhaps avoidance has been one
- 9:30of the ways that they've tried to keep you safe without
- 9:37realizing that when you avoid something, it makes it scarier.
- 9:47Your brain interprets the avoidance as a smart move
- 9:51because the thing was so scary. But what if it was the avoidance
- 9:58and the thinking that made it scary, rather than the thing
- 10:02itself? What if all it took to make the
- 10:10monster disappear from under the bed is to look under the bed?
- 10:17It feels scary because there's a monster there, but when you
- 10:21look, there isn't and never was. I want you to think about this
- 10:31part of you that's been using avoidance and imagine what 20
- 10:36years more of avoidance could be like.
- 10:43It's likely that the anxiety would get worse, but I want you
- 10:48to think about the consequences of that avoidance, important
- 10:54appointments that were missed. I want you to think of tests or
- 11:02scans that could have picked up something really useful, but you
- 11:07never knew it. I want you to observe that
- 11:13timeline, see that natural consequence of two decades of
- 11:20avoiding anything medical or clinical.
- 11:28If that seems to take you to a dangerous place with
- 11:35consequences way worse than anxiety, let me know by nodding
- 11:38your head. Many diseases and issues are
- 11:57very treatable and manageable if detected early, but if you don't
- 12:03detect them early, they can be as difficult as putting
- 12:10toothpaste back into a tube. To see that timeline where
- 12:18avoidance is not your friend, avoidance is more dangerous.
- 12:23I want you to get a sense that good intentions sometimes linked
- 12:34to bad strategies, and avoidance and worry is a bad strategy.
- 12:44Sometimes people getting worried do things to try and calm their
- 12:51nerves, and that itself can lead to health problems.
- 12:59You've seen this future, a future that takes you to a place
- 13:04of something undesirable. But I want you to see a
- 13:09different future, Rewind it all the way back and see a different
- 13:16part of you, part of you that is courageous, determined, brave.
- 13:26I want you to see the part of you then doesn't mind doing
- 13:31difficult things, in fact gets a sense of pride.
- 13:37The fact that it's difficult makes the pursuit worthy, and
- 13:46sometimes the courage to look under the bed is all you need to
- 13:53see that the monster was never real to begin with.
- 13:59I want you to get a sense then. What if all along this was just
- 14:061 + 1 equaling 3? Something happened in the past
- 14:14and your brain linked up the feeling of doing something wrong
- 14:21or failing or feeling trapped to a certain sensation and you
- 14:30don't want to feel that way anymore.
- 14:37What if the thing itself was never the cause of the anxiety?
- 14:41What if it was 1 incompetent person phrasing something in the
- 14:47wrong way, giving you a look? That person probably doesn't
- 14:55even work there anymore. I want to get a sense that there
- 14:59are so many other causes to this.
- 15:03Therefore, harnessing just a little bit of courage can
- 15:11sometimes mean by doing the thing you thought you couldn't
- 15:14do, that House of Cards comes crumbling down.
- 15:22I want you to imagine being in your own home before an
- 15:28appointment. And I want you to imagine that
- 15:34two different versions of you get to leave that home to go to
- 15:42that appointment. The version of you.
- 15:47The good intention and the bad strategy filled with panic and
- 15:52anxiety. Or the version of you who wants
- 15:58a different timeline. A timeline.
- 16:02Then whenever you need to go to an appointment, you just go.
- 16:07Even if there is echoes of anxiety, you go anyway.
- 16:13And in doing so, the anxiety gets less and less and less
- 16:16until it's negligible. You don't even know it's there.
- 16:24And if you would like that confident, courageous version of
- 16:27you to go to the appointment, step into that part, no longer
- 16:33observing but being that part. Imagine that anxious part gets
- 16:40to stay at home just as it wants.
- 16:43But the courageous parts does what the courageous part would
- 16:46do. Feel the fear and do it anyway.
- 16:54If you're ready for that courageous part to go to the
- 16:56appointment, let me know by nodding your head.
- 17:00That's it. So just imagine wearing whatever
- 17:06you would wear to go to this appointment, getting ready to
- 17:12get into your car. But as you leave your home and
- 17:16close the door, feel that you're closing the door on that old
- 17:22part, closing the door on unnecessary anxiety,
- 17:28overthinking and worry. close the door.
- 17:32Hit the door. close as you close the door on that.
- 17:37It's now in your past, that confident, courageous version of
- 17:42you. Purposefully walks to the car
- 17:48and as you walk to the car, you open the door of the car.
- 17:52You are opening the door to a new future.
- 17:56Step into the car and the moment you feel the weight of your body
- 18:00in the chair, feel that you are activating a calm stoic version
- 18:07of you that does what needs to be done.
- 18:12Imagine playing some music, music perhaps from a time where
- 18:16this was never even an issue, and every time you feel any
- 18:22emotion from that music, it reminds you of what it was like
- 18:29to not even think about this. Imagine the music itself is
- 18:35awakening that old version of you, those old neural pathways
- 18:40that thought entirely different. So imagine having that journey
- 18:47to the clinic, to a hospital, to some place medical, and the very
- 18:54sound of the music is thawing. That old part, That old part but
- 19:00never used to worry about that has been frozen in time, but the
- 19:04music is melting away. Whatever trap that part, the
- 19:12music itself is freeing it. So that becomes the natural,
- 19:17dominant way of thinking. Every time you listen to a song
- 19:25from your past, it reawakens that part.
- 19:31There may still be some old echoes of anxiety, but as you
- 19:36park the car and leave the car, set the intention to keep any
- 19:44echoes of anxiety in the car while that courageous, confident
- 19:49version of you goes into the clinic as you hear the sound of
- 19:55the door close. No, any echoes of anxiety are in
- 20:00the car, not with you. What's in you is the part that
- 20:06feels good. What stays within you is that
- 20:11confidence, that courage, that stoic drive to do what needs to
- 20:17be done. Many people don't like a blood
- 20:22test or a blood pressure test. They don't like the smell or the
- 20:29sound of a hospital. But you don't have to like it.
- 20:37Just accept it. Imagine checking in, checking
- 20:43into that hospital, that clinic. But remember, it's the
- 20:47courageous, confident version of you.
- 20:49The way that you give your name is confident.
- 20:54The way you fill out any forms is confident.
- 21:00Remember, that old version of you is still left back at home.
- 21:05They would fill the forms out differently, but you are not
- 21:08them. It's the courageous, confident
- 21:13version of you filling out those forms, perhaps even continuing
- 21:19to listening to that music of the past, that reminds you this
- 21:24used to be different. If it was different before, it
- 21:28can be that way again. Your posture as you sit.
- 21:33The breathing while you're in that waiting room.
- 21:39Long, deep, even your posture. A stranger would see you as
- 21:44someone looking relaxed and calm.
- 21:47It's that version of you. Imagine being called in, perhaps
- 21:55to a particular room, but any smells that you can smell that
- 22:03are unique to hospitals or clinics or surgeries.
- 22:08The smell of disinfectant makes you feel safe knowing they're
- 22:14doing whatever they're doing to reduce bacteria.
- 22:19The smell makes you feel safe. As you breathe in, you're
- 22:26breathing in that resource for relaxation, and as you exhale,
- 22:33long outward breath means that any echoes of anxiety just leave
- 22:38your body. Every time you have a long
- 22:40outward breath, it's the calm version of you that you are
- 22:47awakening. First of all, imagine them doing
- 22:52whatever test they need to do. Like you're seeing yourself like
- 22:56a stranger. Like you're in the room but not.
- 22:59You See them doing the tests and see that you look fine.
- 23:04You're calm, you're relaxed, comfortable, even smiling every
- 23:08now and then, making the occasional joke.
- 23:13This is a version of you unfazed, unbothered.
- 23:20Imagine all the different things that you would go through but
- 23:27see it going well and see that you feel in control and relaxed
- 23:34and calm when it's going well. And when you've seen it the way
- 23:40you would want it to go, let me know by nodding your head.
- 23:56So now rewind it. Rewind it knowing that it's gone
- 24:03well, and step into that version of you before it's even started.
- 24:09So now feel they're doing whatever they're going to do on
- 24:12you. You're in your own body, but you
- 24:15feel as calm and relaxed as if it was something that was
- 24:19happening 15 years ago. It's that version of you that
- 24:31the tests or procedures are happening too.
- 24:38Feel a sense of calm detachment is that you do what they need to
- 24:43do, and you could almost imagine you're somewhere else.
- 24:47You could imagine you're on a beach or in a concert.
- 24:55You could imagine you're swimming in the ocean.
- 24:59You could imagine you're somewhere else while they're
- 25:00doing whatever they're doing. When you know that you can use
- 25:06your imagination because you've imagined yourself in a clinic
- 25:11when you weren't in a clinic. So you could imagine you're
- 25:13somewhere else when you are in a clinic.
- 25:17What's good for the goose is good for the gander, and what's
- 25:20been working against you can now work for you.
- 25:24It's just thinking after all, and when you feel that that
- 25:30you've done whatever they've needed to do, or maybe you get
- 25:35instant results, or maybe you have to wait, just feel that
- 25:39stoic, pragmatic, whatever needs to happen will happen feeling
- 25:45within you when you leave that room, smile to yourself.
- 26:01You did it. You did what was needed to be
- 26:05done. Feel a sense of pride,
- 26:10accomplishment, feel that you faced a fear.
- 26:14You didn't run away from it. And maybe even ask yourself, if
- 26:20I can do this, what else can I do?
- 26:29And sometimes when people do something they thought they
- 26:32couldn't do, they have a desire to do something similar to it,
- 26:38just to make sure it wasn't a fluke, that it wasn't an
- 26:42anomaly. And maybe an idea pops into your
- 26:45head of something similar or even more challenging you could
- 26:49do just to banish this demon. To convince every part of
- 26:55yourself that this is gone now and it doesn't need to come
- 27:00back. Because what keeps you really
- 27:03safe is feeling resourceful. Avoidance and anxiety never kept
- 27:12you safe. It was just avoiding a feeling
- 27:17that was difficult and you don't need to do that anymore.
- 27:25On the drive home, play that same music, and the music you
- 27:30were listening to now reminds you you've awakened A neural
- 27:35pathway, a way of thinking that means that the fear will get
- 27:40less and less, the anxiety will melt away more and more.
- 27:46Don't be surprised if you even have dreams of doing things that
- 27:51are even more extreme than this, but they don't faze you at all.
- 28:00And when you get back to your home, see that anxious avoidant
- 28:06part that's been there all along and realize that this good
- 28:12feeling of pride that you have from doing that thing that once
- 28:16scared you, You feel good having done what was needed to be done
- 28:22and returning. That other part still feels
- 28:25anxious because avoidance creates more anxiety.
- 28:30So tell that part while you respect and like their
- 28:34intention, you don't like their strategy and you think doing
- 28:39what is needed to be done is a better strategy than avoiding
- 28:44and worrying and overthinking. And ask that part if it's
- 28:49willing to help you feel resourceful whenever you need to
- 28:54from now going forwards, so you have a future of less anxiety
- 29:02and get to keep yourself safe in entirely new ways.
- 29:07If that other part agrees, seal the deal with a handshake and
- 29:12let me know when that deal is done.
- 29:19We need to get a sense that a part that was holding you back
- 29:21is now an ally now working with you, helping you feel even more
- 29:26resourceful. Feel that part reintegrate with
- 29:33you with the same intention, only with the new strategy now
- 29:39giving you thoughts, that things will be fine.
- 29:42Giving you thoughts that yeah, you can do it.
- 29:44And that by doing it, the anxiety gets less and less and
- 29:49less. It's time to leave this place.
- 29:56But you believe awakening a different part of your mind and
- 30:01your brain that was dormant for 10 years or more.
- 30:07So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 30:13nose. Just wiggle your fingers and
- 30:16wiggle your toes. Start to connect and calibrate
- 30:18with the here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 30:23awaken you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 30:31456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes.
- 30:35Open your eyes 910 Wide awake, Wide awake.
