- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello.
- 0:01Speaker 2: My name is Satasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud yor
- 0:04Speaker 2: the Order Kerni Wholbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 2: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 2: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 2: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 2: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 2: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 2: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 2: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Let's get into it. She's on the Money. She's on
- 0:36Speaker 1: the Money.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Hello, Ho ho ho. I'm sorry, v I just want
- 0:58Speaker 3: to take us off.
- 1:00Speaker 1: To changing a little bit.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Maybe that's too far, and I'm sorry you're trying to
- 1:08Speaker 3: be festive for offensive a little bit of both. How
- 1:11Speaker 3: do you feel that's a good start? Welcome, She's on
- 1:15Speaker 3: the Money, the podcast that can help you slay your
- 1:17Speaker 3: holiday goals without dashing through too much cash.
- 1:21Speaker 1: How long did that take you?
- 1:23Speaker 3: Maybe like three and a half minutes.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:25Speaker 3: The holiday season is now in full swing and today
- 1:28Speaker 3: we're stuffing at your stockings with our top ideas to
- 1:31Speaker 3: help you add a little extra jingle to your wallet
- 1:34Speaker 3: this Christmas.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I do love a jingly wallet. That means we have
- 1:37Speaker 1: two coins in there that we're off for a good stack.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Some coins in there. I'm excited with me as Victoria
- 1:42Speaker 3: Divine stand a little finance helper, I think you are Santa.
- 1:45Speaker 3: I feel like I'm the finance.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I feel like.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I identify differently, but whatever, that's okay. I just don't
- 1:50Speaker 4: have the bed for it.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Well Sands, a little finance helper is here to make
- 1:54Speaker 3: sure your wallet stays merry and bright this Christmas.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I love that. I can imagine.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Yeah, but we always talk about Christmas budgeting in I
- 2:03Speaker 4: guess terms of cutting costs and finding some deals and
- 2:06Speaker 4: setting spending limits and trimming down the wish list to
- 2:09Speaker 4: make this season a little bit more affordable. But one
- 2:12Speaker 4: thing that I think often gets overlooked is that this
- 2:16Speaker 4: season is actually a golden opportunity to make some extra cash.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Bick, we can make money.
- 2:22Speaker 4: As the festive season ramps up, demands of all kinds
- 2:26Speaker 4: increase in every area. I mean, everybody has a long
- 2:29Speaker 4: list of to do things and no time to get
- 2:32Speaker 4: it done, and this time of year, there are a
- 2:34Speaker 4: lot of people that are happy to spend.
- 2:36Speaker 1: On the task of outsourcing.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Oh my god, I totally get it.
- 2:40Speaker 4: So with a little bit of creativity, Beck, you could
- 2:42Speaker 4: end up covering your chrissy expenses or even give yourself
- 2:45Speaker 4: a little bit of a financial cushion to start the
- 2:48Speaker 4: new year. So that's what today's episode is going to
- 2:51Speaker 4: be all about. We're talking about holiday hustles.
- 2:54Speaker 3: I love this idea because I feel like a lot
- 2:56Speaker 3: of people spend, spend, spend, they're usually in the negati
- 3:00Speaker 3: is by the time.
- 3:00Speaker 1: We all are.
- 3:01Speaker 4: It is so crazy. But also, I mean side note,
- 3:04Speaker 4: if you are feeling the festive pressure right now, what
- 3:07Speaker 4: you're going to do and beyond listening to this episode
- 3:10Speaker 4: about holiday hustles, where you're actually able to, I guess,
- 3:13Speaker 4: increase how much money you're saving and earning of this period.
- 3:16Speaker 4: You're going to go and create a bank account today
- 3:20Speaker 4: and you're going to call it Christmas. And after Christmas,
- 3:23Speaker 4: you're going to start contributing an amount of money that
- 3:26Speaker 4: feels comfortable to you every single week or month to
- 3:29Speaker 4: that so that you don't have to feel like this
- 3:31Speaker 4: next year, so that you have Christmas sorted because how
- 3:34Speaker 4: many times does Christmas roll around back and you're like again, as.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Though we didn't know what was coming. I know, like
- 3:40Speaker 1: we knew it was coming. We did Christmas Day.
- 3:43Speaker 4: You've got three hundred and sixty five days now to
- 3:45Speaker 4: plan for the next Christmas. And it doesn't have to
- 3:47Speaker 4: be stressful.
- 3:48Speaker 3: No, And even if you have one dollar a day
- 3:50Speaker 3: to put away, that's more than you would have had.
- 3:52Speaker 4: If you're gonna have three hundred and sixty five dollars
- 3:54Speaker 4: this time next year, that I can almost promise you
- 3:57Speaker 4: future you is going to be like, thank God, beg
- 3:59Speaker 4: you bank me so much. But also if you want
- 4:02Speaker 4: to make some extra cash, that's what we're going to
- 4:04Speaker 4: talk about today, all right, So what's the first tip
- 4:07Speaker 4: and our holiday hustle stocking?
- 4:08Speaker 3: All right?
- 4:09Speaker 4: Are you ready for one that you probably already saw coming.
- 4:12Speaker 4: I am to start off very strong, but also very predictably.
- 4:16Speaker 4: I think a lot of us overlook how much cash
- 4:18Speaker 4: we're actually sitting.
- 4:19Speaker 1: On in our own homes.
- 4:20Speaker 4: The first place I would start is just by looking
- 4:23Speaker 4: around your house and having a look for anything that
- 4:25Speaker 4: you can chuck on Facebook, Marketplace. It's a fantastic way
- 4:28Speaker 4: of freeing up some space and making some extra cash
- 4:31Speaker 4: at the same time. And from my perspective, it's a
- 4:34Speaker 4: great way to declutter and make room for the new
- 4:36Speaker 4: presence that you might be receiving.
- 4:38Speaker 1: There such great idea.
- 4:39Speaker 4: What I would do and what we're looking for selling though,
- 4:42Speaker 4: is like, maybe have a think about what do people
- 4:46Speaker 4: need during this holiday season. So I posted something on
- 4:49Speaker 4: Instagram the other day. If you are currently thinking about
- 4:53Speaker 4: decluttering for your kids, please do because items that your
- 4:58Speaker 4: kids are outgrown, like maybe toy or bikes or even
- 5:01Speaker 4: cubby houses, can be a massive hit for someone who's
- 5:04Speaker 4: looking for a save at Christmas time and being like
- 5:07Speaker 4: I really want to get my kid to bike. Yes,
- 5:09Speaker 4: don't wait till after Christmas to get rid of your
- 5:11Speaker 4: kids items, which I think lots of us are like, oh,
- 5:13Speaker 4: I'll see what they get for Christmas and then declutter
- 5:16Speaker 4: like it kind of makes sense, but do it before
- 5:18Speaker 4: Christmas so that another family can benefit from it. Yes, Like, also,
- 5:23Speaker 4: I mean, this is not going to make you any money,
- 5:25Speaker 4: but if there are things that you're like, I don't know,
- 5:27Speaker 4: like I can afford to give this.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Up, try and gift it away.
- 5:32Speaker 4: So like give it up for free on Facebook marketplace,
- 5:35Speaker 4: like I can almost guarantee it will go to a
- 5:37Speaker 4: kid who was not going to get something otherwise.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Yeah, that's so true. I actually spent two hours driving
- 5:42Speaker 3: someone's house just to buy a one dollar Sanda hat.
- 5:44Speaker 3: You know those fluffy ones. You can't get me two hours?
- 5:47Speaker 3: This was last year.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say back, I have so many fluffy
- 5:51Speaker 1: Santa hats.
- 5:52Speaker 3: You actually can have one. Yeah, I'll bring you because
- 5:54Speaker 3: I lost it already.
- 5:55Speaker 1: I don't know wear of course you did. What don't
- 5:56Speaker 1: you lose?
- 5:57Speaker 3: But you know that person has an extra dollar. She
- 5:58Speaker 3: was like, no one's gonna buy the Santa hat.
- 6:00Speaker 1: You want fluffy Santa hat?
- 6:01Speaker 3: I really like on it? That first tip.
- 6:03Speaker 4: Okay, so decluttering making cash if we're going to be decluttering,
- 6:08Speaker 4: like what about your wardrobe? Are there any like outfits
- 6:11Speaker 4: that you've worn once or twice that could be a
- 6:12Speaker 4: perfect Christmas dress for someone else?
- 6:14Speaker 1: Like, pop that up.
- 6:16Speaker 4: You're probably never going to wear it again. Another thing
- 6:18Speaker 4: I want you to do is back, what do you
- 6:20Speaker 4: get for Christmas?
- 6:21Speaker 1: Last year? Exactly?
- 6:24Speaker 4: So we're going to put things on Facebook marketplace if
- 6:26Speaker 4: we don't need them, and turn them into some extra
- 6:28Speaker 4: cash because I can almost guarantee if you haven't worn
- 6:30Speaker 4: it in a year, if you haven't used it any gear,
- 6:32Speaker 4: you're probably not going to use it for another year.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Absolutely right, Yeah, yeah, get rid of it. Don't worry
- 6:37Speaker 3: about b bit savage this year. I actually thought you
- 6:40Speaker 3: were talking about how there's always coins under the couch
- 6:42Speaker 3: cushions for some reason.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Also check your couch couch cushions.
- 6:45Speaker 4: And the bottom of the washing machine, you know, the
- 6:47Speaker 4: little steel around the edge. There's always two bucks in there.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Don't know where it comes from because my household.
- 6:51Speaker 1: We don't use cash. No one uses cash. There's always
- 6:54Speaker 1: cash in the washing machine.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Where's it come from? Okay?
- 6:56Speaker 1: No?
- 6:57Speaker 3: I do like that first tip a lot, decluttering making
- 6:59Speaker 3: extra hash at the same time. So simple but so effective.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Now once we've done this, what's next?
- 7:04Speaker 1: Okay?
- 7:05Speaker 4: So I feel like everyone was able to predict the
- 7:08Speaker 4: Facebook Marketplace one because like the first thing I do
- 7:10Speaker 4: when I wake up in the morning, back I roll over,
- 7:12Speaker 4: I pick up my phone because it's probably an alarm
- 7:14Speaker 4: going off that I need to stop, and then I
- 7:17Speaker 4: check Facebook Marketplace so I don't have to see what's
- 7:19Speaker 4: going on. I just need to see what people are listing.
- 7:22Speaker 4: So you saw that coming, but what you didn't see
- 7:23Speaker 4: coming huh yardwork?
- 7:25Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, okay.
- 7:27Speaker 4: So Christmas time is a time of year when basically
- 7:30Speaker 4: everybody wants their garden looking amazing. Like you're having friends
- 7:34Speaker 4: and family over, They're going to go through the front yard.
- 7:36Speaker 4: You haven't weeded it for a really long time. But
- 7:39Speaker 4: with how much is going on, most people don't have
- 7:42Speaker 4: time to do it themselves. And here in Australia, where
- 7:45Speaker 4: Christmas means warm weather and outdoor celebrations, having a tidy
- 7:49Speaker 4: garden and a festive.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yard, I would say is a must.
- 7:52Speaker 3: So you could put yourself out there.
- 7:54Speaker 4: You can put yourself out there. So one of my
- 7:56Speaker 4: favorite platforms is they a taskard. But you could start
- 7:59Speaker 4: by letting your family and friends know that you're offering
- 8:01Speaker 4: yard work services. So chuck it up on Instagram or
- 8:04Speaker 4: you could check it up on Facebook. Posting on social
- 8:06Speaker 4: media is going to get you out there. And I
- 8:08Speaker 4: mean if you said, hey, for a hundred bucks, I'll
- 8:10Speaker 4: come and clean up your yard and like mow the
- 8:13Speaker 4: lawn far out, come on over today, Beck, because it
- 8:15Speaker 4: hasn't been done in ages for added security and visibility.
- 8:19Speaker 4: My favorite platform air tasker where you can I guess,
- 8:22Speaker 4: be covered by their insurance and also connect with clients.
- 8:26Speaker 4: At this time of year, everyone's booked up, So why
- 8:28Speaker 4: not join and cash in on the fact that, you know,
- 8:31Speaker 4: I actually need someone who's available tomorrow because I forgot
- 8:34Speaker 4: beck that I wanted my garden done by the way Ken. Yeah. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:39Speaker 4: that's a great idea exactly. And you could earn like
- 8:41Speaker 4: forty or fifty bucks an hour, depending on your location
- 8:44Speaker 4: and the job details.
- 8:45Speaker 3: Okay, do you have to.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Be a landscaper? No?
- 8:47Speaker 4: No, you can pop it up and at the end
- 8:49Speaker 4: of the day you can pop in your ad. I'm just,
- 8:51Speaker 4: you know, an average goal looking to do some yard work.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I'm pretty good at it.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Yeah, why not?
- 8:57Speaker 3: It's actually a really good idea. I'm genuinely, genuinely thinking
- 9:00Speaker 3: about doing that.
- 9:01Speaker 1: See I think that's a good one. Okay.
- 9:03Speaker 3: So after tiding up the yard and making it sparkle
- 9:05Speaker 3: for all those outdoor gatherings, what's next in the holiday hustle? Shocking?
- 9:09Speaker 4: So outside it's looking fresh, it's looking sleek. You go
- 9:12Speaker 4: in your house, it's a bombsite, of of course, or
- 9:15Speaker 4: maybe I'm just talking about my house because right now
- 9:17Speaker 4: my house is a bombsite. I have a baby, and
- 9:19Speaker 4: not much else gets done if I'm being honest. But
- 9:23Speaker 4: now the outside's looking great, I think it's time to
- 9:25Speaker 4: bring that energy inside. Same as yardwork. Everybody is looking
- 9:30Speaker 4: for someone to help with Christmas cleaning or decluttering, and
- 9:33Speaker 4: it's in massive demand at this time of year. I'm
- 9:36Speaker 4: seeing all these decluttering instagrams pop off because that's the
- 9:39Speaker 4: type of content I like to consume. Of course, I
- 9:41Speaker 4: love watching people organize pantries, good back, but all of
- 9:47Speaker 4: these people are like, hey, get in before the end
- 9:49Speaker 4: of December. I only have one or two spots left.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yeah, okay.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I'm not saying that you need to be a professional
- 9:55Speaker 4: at these things, and we're not putting ourselves out there
- 9:57Speaker 4: as professionals, but there would be somebody who's going to go,
- 10:00Speaker 4: oh my gosh, I would love just an extra set
- 10:02Speaker 4: of hands that could come over help me tidy the house,
- 10:05Speaker 4: come over, help me deg clutter. Like you know when
- 10:08Speaker 4: you go into someone's house and they say, oh, that
- 10:10Speaker 4: cupboard all way too overwhelming, But you're like, what's the
- 10:13Speaker 4: big deal Because you don't have the emotional attachment.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Exactly, I can clean up your linen cupboard. Yes, I
- 10:19Speaker 1: could organize all your sheets and towels.
- 10:21Speaker 3: I feel like when we're cleaning our own houses we
- 10:22Speaker 3: get stuck on like little miscellaneous in its as that
- 10:24Speaker 3: we one hundred percent there for an hour.
- 10:27Speaker 4: I can go through your pantry and look at all
- 10:29Speaker 4: the expiry dates on things and make sure that your
- 10:31Speaker 4: pantry is being cleared out. I can put it all
- 10:33Speaker 4: in a pile and be like, Beck, this is all
- 10:35Speaker 4: the stuff I think you should get rid of, and
- 10:37Speaker 4: you go, yeah, okay, no worries.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Yep, don't think about it, just just get rid of it.
- 10:41Speaker 4: But between everything everybody's doing over this period, who even
- 10:45Speaker 4: has time to deep clean their house? And Beck, that
- 10:48Speaker 4: is where you and I come. Yes, exactly, it's the
- 10:51Speaker 4: same as yard work. You could like tap into your
- 10:53Speaker 4: social networks or sign up to air tasker, especially if
- 10:55Speaker 4: you're that friend that's kind of known as being a
- 10:58Speaker 4: little bit of a neat freak.
- 11:00Speaker 1: But all lies on that.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Yeah, we are commercializing ourselves at this time of year. Beck, great,
- 11:05Speaker 4: you guys know I'm a neat freak. I'd love to
- 11:07Speaker 4: be a neat freak in your house. Come on over,
- 11:10Speaker 4: I love this, you can expect to earn between thirty
- 11:12Speaker 4: and sixty bucks an hour, depending on the depth of
- 11:15Speaker 4: cleaning required.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Like also not that hard to pick up a few
- 11:19Speaker 1: you know, cleaning items.
- 11:20Speaker 4: Or you can say I can do this for you, Beck,
- 11:22Speaker 4: I'll come over, but you need to supply all the
- 11:25Speaker 4: cleaning products in the vacuum.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Then you don't even have to turn up with anything.
- 11:28Speaker 4: You could just jump on the tram, go to their house,
- 11:30Speaker 4: do some cleaning, get some money, make bank, go.
- 11:33Speaker 3: Home, oh man, and you also get to spend time
- 11:36Speaker 3: with the friend you might not have been able to
- 11:37Speaker 3: do exactly season.
- 11:39Speaker 4: Or you could put it up on air Tasker and
- 11:41Speaker 4: get a few reviews going, so that throughout the next
- 11:44Speaker 4: year when cash is a little bit tight, you can
- 11:46Speaker 4: be like, I'll just put another add up or I'll
- 11:47Speaker 4: reply to a few air Tasker things.
- 11:50Speaker 3: That's so good.
- 11:51Speaker 4: You can make literally a couple of one hundred bucks
- 11:53Speaker 4: in a day by doing that.
- 11:54Speaker 3: And so, okay, we've gone inside, we've done outside. Everything's
- 11:57Speaker 3: sparkle and clean and ready.
- 11:59Speaker 1: What's okay?
- 12:01Speaker 4: So this one it's not for everyone, but I've put
- 12:03Speaker 4: it down anyway, if you're going away for the holidays,
- 12:06Speaker 4: or you have a spare bedroom, beg rent out your space.
- 12:09Speaker 4: It can be a really good way of bringing in
- 12:11Speaker 4: a little bit of extra cash during this festive season.
- 12:14Speaker 4: I think you might be thinking, Oh, no, one's gonna
- 12:16Speaker 4: want my room, Like, what are you talking about me? Like,
- 12:19Speaker 4: it's not a holiday house. But with so many people
- 12:23Speaker 4: traveling to visit family, there is so much demand for
- 12:26Speaker 4: rentals that are going to allow guests to stay close
- 12:30Speaker 4: to their family without having to book hotel.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:32Speaker 4: Yeah, Like I don't mean to be rude. If you're
- 12:33Speaker 4: my family, please stop listing right here. I'll give you
- 12:37Speaker 4: three two one, all right. So sometimes you just don't
- 12:39Speaker 4: want to stay family about the house.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Sometimes you just.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Don't like you're happy to go over for dinner, you're
- 12:43Speaker 4: happy to travel, but you want to go back to
- 12:45Speaker 4: your own place.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Oh man, that would be sweet. That's so curious.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I would love Beck's bedroom.
- 12:50Speaker 4: Yeah, like the idea that I could escape that situation,
- 12:53Speaker 4: go to quote my own room, and then I'll see
- 12:56Speaker 4: you tomorrow for breakfast.
- 12:57Speaker 3: True.
- 12:58Speaker 4: So we're not talking like fancy usually holiday houses. We're
- 13:01Speaker 4: talking like if you have a bedroom that you could
- 13:04Speaker 4: lease out this holiday season, because maybe you're going to
- 13:06Speaker 4: your family's place where you don't get to rent somebody's room,
- 13:11Speaker 4: right you could rent it out, which I think it
- 13:13Speaker 4: makes your homework for you, but also generate some cash
- 13:17Speaker 4: for you in the short term.
- 13:18Speaker 3: I guess I'm assuming that you maybe need to own
- 13:20Speaker 3: or doesn't. I guess you can have.
- 13:21Speaker 4: You can chat with your landlord and work out what's
- 13:24Speaker 4: fair and what's reasonable. You don't necessarily need to own it,
- 13:27Speaker 4: so I would check your lease agreements, but you could
- 13:29Speaker 4: post on social media and like sublet to a friend
- 13:31Speaker 4: for a period of time, or if you do own,
- 13:34Speaker 4: you could list your place on Airbnb and stays, which honestly,
- 13:37Speaker 4: it provides coverage so like insurance and stuff, and connects
- 13:41Speaker 4: you with people who are looking for short term rentals.
- 13:43Speaker 4: And I mean everybody who has a mortgage right now
- 13:46Speaker 4: is probably thinking that their mortgage is feeling a little
- 13:49Speaker 4: bit tight around their necks, so this could take some
- 13:51Speaker 4: pressure off. Yeah, great call exactly. The idea of printing
- 13:54Speaker 4: out like a room or your house. It's such a
- 13:56Speaker 4: clever way to make use of your space exactly. And
- 13:58Speaker 4: I mean it's going to vary, like if you so
- 14:00Speaker 4: stupidly regional and it's just a sharehouse and all of that,
- 14:04Speaker 4: you're probably not making as much, but from my research,
- 14:07Speaker 4: it could typically earn anywhere from like one hundred bucks
- 14:09Speaker 4: to like four hundred dollars a night, especially during peak time.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a great idea.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Especially imagine if you have like a really good rental
- 14:18Speaker 4: but like in a really great location, so you're like
- 14:21Speaker 4: Christmas time come at me. I have a friend who
- 14:23Speaker 4: actually rents her house out, so she lives down where
- 14:27Speaker 4: we go on holidays bees and she goes and stays
- 14:29Speaker 4: with her parents and rents her whole house out for
- 14:31Speaker 4: the Christmas New Years period.
- 14:32Speaker 3: That's so clever.
- 14:33Speaker 4: Because she leases it for like two grand a week.
- 14:37Speaker 4: This is not a house with a pool, It is
- 14:38Speaker 4: not anything fancy. It's just in this holiday location that
- 14:43Speaker 4: someone usually last minute books because they're like, oh my gosh,
- 14:47Speaker 4: I don't have any other option.
- 14:48Speaker 1: That sounds really bad.
- 14:49Speaker 4: But also she puts that towards a mortgage, and you
- 14:52Speaker 4: know what, we're all just doing the best that we
- 14:54Speaker 4: can beg We're all just out here trying to live exactly.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Five okay, with everyone heading out of town. That's a
- 15:00Speaker 3: really really good idea, but there's another huge holiday hustle
- 15:03Speaker 3: to take advantage.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Of there is, So without further ado, we're gonna take
- 15:08Speaker 4: a very quick break, okay, and when we come back,
- 15:10Speaker 4: we're going to dive into another holiday hustle that lets
- 15:13Speaker 4: you cash in on the holiday travel season without even
- 15:16Speaker 4: leaving your own neighborhood.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Okay, welcome back everyone. Before the break, we were talking
- 15:29Speaker 3: about renting out a room or your whole place for
- 15:31Speaker 3: some extra holiday cash. But if you'd rather stay local
- 15:34Speaker 3: while still making money off the holiday travel rush, We've
- 15:37Speaker 3: got just the thing.
- 15:38Speaker 1: All right, are you ready?
- 15:39Speaker 3: I'm ready?
- 15:40Speaker 1: Oh this is my favorite one. Pet sitting and house sitting.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Yes.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Do you know who goes away during Christmas periods?
- 15:47Speaker 3: Everyone in the rich people? Oh?
- 15:48Speaker 1: Rich people. Yeah, but like do you know whose house
- 15:51Speaker 1: they want to houseit over?
- 15:53Speaker 3: Or rich people? Yeah?
- 15:54Speaker 1: Because do you know what they leave their Netflix logged in? Yeah? Yeah,
- 15:58Speaker 1: they usually have foxtail.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Yes, they might have a pool.
- 16:04Speaker 4: I'm not going to take advantage of that, but I
- 16:06Speaker 4: want to do my cross ditch beside your pool.
- 16:08Speaker 3: I wouldn't hate it.
- 16:09Speaker 4: And I can't take advantage of this because I am
- 16:12Speaker 4: the person with the pets, so I can't go house
- 16:14Speaker 4: sit for somebody else, which is very disappointing because I
- 16:17Speaker 4: think this is a really good side hustle. But there
- 16:19Speaker 4: are so many people right now who are planning to
- 16:22Speaker 4: travel over the holidays, and because of that, pet and
- 16:25Speaker 4: house sitting are both in high demand. People want to
- 16:27Speaker 4: make sure that their homes and their furry family members
- 16:30Speaker 4: are looked after. But with some of the hustle and
- 16:32Speaker 4: bustle beck, it's actually relatively hard to find somebody who's reliable.
- 16:37Speaker 4: And that's where you get to come in. So how
- 16:40Speaker 4: do you even get started? First thing I do is
- 16:42Speaker 4: again social media, if you have it. We're not talking
- 16:46Speaker 4: like you need thousands of followers for this, right because
- 16:49Speaker 4: like you just need one person. And do you know
- 16:51Speaker 4: who I would trust with my pets before going online?
- 16:54Speaker 4: A friend or a family member or somebody in my
- 16:56Speaker 4: inner circle. In fact, I know this sounds a late
- 17:00Speaker 4: and maybe this is just me being really dangerous, but
- 17:02Speaker 4: like I've seen a girl Amy. I just follow her
- 17:05Speaker 4: because her content was cool. I knew she lived in Melbourne,
- 17:08Speaker 4: like she was a She's on the money follower. Anyway,
- 17:10Speaker 4: she followed me. I followed her and she posted on
- 17:13Speaker 4: her Instagram stories one day that she does pet sitting
- 17:16Speaker 4: and I screenshot it. And then when I went away
- 17:18Speaker 4: earlier this year back, I literally messaged her on Instagram
- 17:21Speaker 4: and I was like, I know this is a bit
- 17:23Speaker 4: weird and I've never met you before, but I like
- 17:25Speaker 4: you vibe.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I like what you're up to. I saw that you
- 17:27Speaker 1: posted that you did pet sitting. Would you do it again?
- 17:31Speaker 4: And so Henry and Bailey and Lucy had Amy for
- 17:34Speaker 4: that period and they loved her. That's really but like,
- 17:36Speaker 4: that's who I felt really comfortable with because sure she
- 17:39Speaker 4: always posts pictures of people's cats, and I'm like, you're
- 17:42Speaker 4: my people, you know. But if you don't have somebody
- 17:45Speaker 4: that you know that you could house sit for, you
- 17:47Speaker 4: could post in local Facebook groups. So like, if your
- 17:50Speaker 4: suburb has a Facebook group, join it and post and say, hey, guys,
- 17:54Speaker 4: I'm looking to house sit or pet sit over that
- 17:56Speaker 4: period of time really helps. If you post pictures of yourself,
- 18:00Speaker 4: really helps, if you post pictures of pets that you've
- 18:02Speaker 4: looked after, and like even just being like, hey, I
- 18:05Speaker 4: could provide a review from my mate beck who I've
- 18:07Speaker 4: pets it for before, and that makes me feel a
- 18:10Speaker 4: little bit more secure or you could join a trusted platform.
- 18:13Speaker 4: So I have also used a platform called mad Pause before. Yes,
- 18:17Speaker 4: so when I was really hamstrung and I couldn't find
- 18:19Speaker 4: someone because like, to me, I'm crazy, I'm a crazy
- 18:23Speaker 4: pet mum. Like, don't get me wrong, I would not
- 18:27Speaker 4: go on a holiday before putting my pets into like
- 18:30Speaker 4: a cattery or something like that. It's just not happening.
- 18:33Speaker 4: So I went on Mad Pause and I was matched
- 18:35Speaker 4: with a house sitter that had really good reviews. Or
- 18:38Speaker 4: there's another website. I haven't used it, but I've heard
- 18:41Speaker 4: it's really good called Trusted house Sitters for house sitting,
- 18:44Speaker 4: and it helps you connect with clients who might be
- 18:47Speaker 4: outside your immediate network, which is kind of cool. And
- 18:50Speaker 4: on those platforms like Mad Pause and Trusted house Sitters,
- 18:54Speaker 4: they usually require a police check and references. Okay, so
- 18:57Speaker 4: that's really cool. But if you're just doing it, you
- 19:00Speaker 4: can just apply. I think it's like forty seven dollars
- 19:03Speaker 4: to do a police check, but I would do that
- 19:05Speaker 4: as well. Like can imagine if some rando online was like, oh,
- 19:08Speaker 4: I can you know pet sit for you? And I
- 19:10Speaker 4: have a police check, I feel a lot safer and
- 19:13Speaker 4: bonus if you're a house sitting for somebody. You could
- 19:16Speaker 4: hack it, you could rent out your bedroom.
- 19:19Speaker 3: I was gonna say, yeah, if it's in the same
- 19:21Speaker 3: area exactly, really changing that much. I'm not traveling anywhere.
- 19:25Speaker 3: I just get money. Oh my god, it's a great idea.
- 19:28Speaker 4: And do you know what, Yeah, I think that pet
- 19:31Speaker 4: sitting like I would probably do it for free, but
- 19:34Speaker 4: rates typically range anywhere from like thirty to seventy dollars
- 19:38Speaker 4: a day, depending on the level of care and location.
- 19:40Speaker 4: So like, if you offer your pet sitting services, it
- 19:44Speaker 4: might be seventy dollars a day because you need to
- 19:46Speaker 4: sleep over it at the house to look after these pets.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Or you could also upsell.
- 19:51Speaker 4: Them and be like I could take your dog on
- 19:53Speaker 4: an hour walk a day for an extra.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Fifteen to thirty dollars. Huh, there you go, exactly.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Getting paid for You're getting one hundred bucks a day, exactly.
- 20:03Speaker 4: We are rolling in it, and most people go away
- 20:06Speaker 4: for at least a week, So that's seven hundred bucks
- 20:08Speaker 4: you didn't have before. And then how sitting you could
- 20:11Speaker 4: expect about the same between thirty to seventy dollars a
- 20:14Speaker 4: night with higher rates if there are heaps of different responsibilities.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Sure, okay, pet and houseitting are great for holiday travelers,
- 20:21Speaker 3: but that's not the only way to help busy people
- 20:23Speaker 3: this holiday season. What else can we jump onto.
- 20:25Speaker 4: You could run people's errands so like so many people
- 20:29Speaker 4: have to do lists that are super long, lots of
- 20:32Speaker 4: people just don't have the time to handle it all.
- 20:34Speaker 4: And that, my friend, is where you come in. I'm
- 20:36Speaker 4: assuming again, if somebody put their hand up and said, oh,
- 20:39Speaker 4: I can do that for you, you be like, oh my gosh,
- 20:41Speaker 4: a weight off my shoulders. Someone's willing to pay for
- 20:43Speaker 4: it in that okase. So becoming an error runner could
- 20:46Speaker 4: be a fantastic way to earn some extra holiday cash,
- 20:49Speaker 4: which can help people tick off their holiday checklist. You're
- 20:51Speaker 4: helping them be less stressed, but then also you're making
- 20:54Speaker 4: some extra cash. So again, you could do social media,
- 20:57Speaker 4: but air task I Reckon is a good one for this,
- 21:00Speaker 4: so you can connect with people who need errands done
- 21:03Speaker 4: really quickly. There's also a platform called zoom to You.
- 21:06Speaker 4: So ZM the number two and then the letter you.
- 21:11Speaker 1: They're really good, so zoom to you.
- 21:12Speaker 4: Sherpa is another one. Go People are delivery service platforms
- 21:17Speaker 4: that connect independent couriers, so anyone who's like, I've got
- 21:20Speaker 4: a car or I can do this with customers who
- 21:23Speaker 4: need same day or on demand deliveries. So oh my gosh,
- 21:27Speaker 4: I don't earn a car, I need to get the
- 21:28Speaker 4: bike from Target to my house.
- 21:30Speaker 1: They pop the job up there.
- 21:32Speaker 3: You could do it, easy done.
- 21:34Speaker 4: Easy done right. Some of these allow you to earn
- 21:37Speaker 4: extra money for the last minute deliveries, and even like
- 21:40Speaker 4: Uber allows you to select just delivery services only these days,
- 21:44Speaker 4: so like, you don't have to sign up to Uber
- 21:47Speaker 4: and have people in your car. You can sign up
- 21:49Speaker 4: to Uber, which also, by the way, drops the car
- 21:53Speaker 4: that you need. So like, if you have thought about
- 21:55Speaker 4: doing Uber and you're like, oh, I checked the requirements
- 21:57Speaker 4: and my car's not new enough, Yeah, you could be
- 22:00Speaker 4: delivery driver.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Cool.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Yeah, because you're not having people in your car.
- 22:02Speaker 4: But if you're going to sign up as like an
- 22:04Speaker 4: independent contractor on delivery platforms, I need you to make
- 22:07Speaker 4: sure that you actually read the terms and conditions carefully
- 22:10Speaker 4: because each platform might have like different requirements. So for example,
- 22:14Speaker 4: if you sign up to Uber, they aren't just going
- 22:17Speaker 4: to pay into your account and wham bam, you don't
- 22:19Speaker 4: think about it again. You're going to need to have
- 22:21Speaker 4: an ABN. So you need to set up an ABN
- 22:24Speaker 4: because in order for you to operate legally, they need
- 22:27Speaker 4: you to process your own tax and super and whatnot.
- 22:30Speaker 1: And you also need.
- 22:31Speaker 4: To understand your I guess responsibilities when it comes to
- 22:34Speaker 4: like insurance and liability and tax obligations and all of
- 22:37Speaker 4: these are going to be your responsibility as an independent
- 22:40Speaker 4: contractor if that makes sense.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Yeah, So just thinking about it, because I've written this
- 22:45Speaker 4: long list of like what you could do. You could
- 22:47Speaker 4: offer like grocery shopping. I know that grocery shopping is
- 22:50Speaker 4: something that you could be like, but I could get
- 22:52Speaker 4: calls online or whatever you could. But are they going
- 22:54Speaker 4: to pick the right bananas exactly? Are they going to
- 22:57Speaker 4: go and go to like your list of different like places,
- 23:01Speaker 4: so like for me my Christmas grocery shopping, I go
- 23:05Speaker 4: to calls, I go to audi and have different things.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Imagine if you wrote a list and then someone else
- 23:08Speaker 1: went and did.
- 23:09Speaker 3: It totally, and you know when they replace the item
- 23:11Speaker 3: because it's out of stuff?
- 23:12Speaker 1: What is that about?
- 23:13Speaker 3: And sometimes you get the most rogue thing ever.
- 23:17Speaker 1: You actually do. And I mean the other day get this.
- 23:20Speaker 4: So I was really lazy the other day Steve was
- 23:23Speaker 4: away and I was at home on my own, and
- 23:26Speaker 4: I realized I was almost out of baby formula. I
- 23:28Speaker 4: was like, fantastic, I'm going to order it on uberots.
- 23:31Speaker 4: Turned out it was much more expensive, but I was like, Okay,
- 23:34Speaker 4: that's the price I'm paying to leave my baby napping
- 23:38Speaker 4: because it took six years to get him to no course,
- 23:40Speaker 4: and I was like, and I'm not going out, like
- 23:42Speaker 4: I just can't mentally do it orter a formula on
- 23:45Speaker 4: uberots and so Harvey is eight months old, so I
- 23:48Speaker 4: ordered the like six to twelve month old formula. Turns
- 23:51Speaker 4: out they didn't have it, so instead of replacing it
- 23:55Speaker 4: or calling me or doing anything, they just like swapped it.
- 23:58Speaker 1: For the three year old for me.
- 24:01Speaker 4: So I paid forty seven dollars to have a tin
- 24:05Speaker 4: of formula that I cannot use for my child delivered
- 24:09Speaker 4: to my door.
- 24:09Speaker 1: No. Well, I looked at it. I looked at it.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Yeah, and I was like, what do I do with
- 24:14Speaker 4: this because I can't use it. Also, I didn't even
- 24:17Speaker 4: know that three year olds still used formula, so I
- 24:19Speaker 4: checked the expiry date.
- 24:21Speaker 1: It would expire before my son is three. No, I
- 24:23Speaker 1: don't even use it ever.
- 24:25Speaker 3: That sucks.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Don't worry. I did take it back to Cohle's and
- 24:29Speaker 4: told them what had happened, and turns out their product
- 24:32Speaker 4: was actually in stock and they just let me swap it,
- 24:34Speaker 4: which was very kind. So I fixed it.
- 24:37Speaker 3: But also, ah, did you get delivery feedback or anything?
- 24:40Speaker 1: I gave them five stars.
- 24:42Speaker 4: They did the best they could, I suppose, So beck
- 24:44Speaker 4: that's my side story about uber eats and how that
- 24:47Speaker 4: didn't work out for me, And if I had hired
- 24:50Speaker 4: someone independently that would have worked out, I think. But
- 24:53Speaker 4: also gift pickups, gift delivery service, like postal service now
- 25:00Speaker 4: isn't reliable. Maybe you need to get something across the city,
- 25:03Speaker 4: returns and exchanges. No one wants to do that themselves,
- 25:06Speaker 4: so you can put it online and say that you're
- 25:08Speaker 4: happy to do that and picking up. Event supplies are
- 25:11Speaker 4: always in high demand. Do you know how many Christmas
- 25:13Speaker 4: parties are happening right now for companies who are like,
- 25:16Speaker 4: oh my gosh, how do we get all these candles
- 25:18Speaker 4: to the venue?
- 25:19Speaker 1: So true, you can do it.
- 25:21Speaker 4: You can do it.
- 25:21Speaker 1: You could be a woman with a van check.
- 25:23Speaker 3: A podcast done, go for the drive.
- 25:25Speaker 4: No one you could listen to, but typically beg. You
- 25:28Speaker 4: could earn between twenty and fifty.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Bucks per delivery.
- 25:31Speaker 3: That's great.
- 25:32Speaker 4: That's a good deal, depending on obviously travel time and
- 25:34Speaker 4: complexity and what do you want to charge for your time.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Let's be honest. I reckon offering an errand service during
- 25:40Speaker 4: the holidays. It lets you help others make the season
- 25:43Speaker 4: a little less stressful while you're earning.
- 25:45Speaker 1: Some extra cash.
- 25:46Speaker 4: I think it's a good deal. Plus, with the right approach,
- 25:48Speaker 4: you could turn these short term gigs into some repeat
- 25:51Speaker 4: clients year round.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Yeah, that's so.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Like, once they've got your number, you can be like, oh,
- 25:55Speaker 1: if there's anything that pops up during the year, you
- 25:57Speaker 1: let me know.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Little burths of cash every now and then, couldn't her sligh?
- 26:00Speaker 3: Yeah great idea, Thank you, you're so welcome.
- 26:04Speaker 1: I have one more for you.
- 26:05Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, I was going to say, is there one tiny,
- 26:07Speaker 3: little one more?
- 26:08Speaker 1: Do you know what I hate? Flat packs?
- 26:11Speaker 3: Oh?
- 26:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hate.
- 26:13Speaker 3: I see where you're going.
- 26:15Speaker 4: We know that the holiday season is hectic and parents
- 26:18Speaker 4: are often doing their own groceries because they didn't know
- 26:20Speaker 4: you offer a delivery service, and they're doing their own
- 26:23Speaker 4: errands because they didn't know that you could do it
- 26:25Speaker 4: for them. And they are shopping and they are cooking,
- 26:27Speaker 4: and they are planning family events. They didn't put the
- 26:30Speaker 4: bike together, No for little Johnny.
- 26:33Speaker 3: Flat pack galore this time.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Yeah, so many.
- 26:36Speaker 4: But you know what, that's where you're going to step
- 26:38Speaker 4: into your job as gift assembler. Oh my god, that's
- 26:41Speaker 4: and you're going to take a huge task off their
- 26:43Speaker 4: hand and they're going.
- 26:43Speaker 1: To pay you to do it.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Great.
- 26:45Speaker 4: Also, there are some people in this world who were
- 26:47Speaker 4: really good at flat pack. My best friend Harriet flat
- 26:50Speaker 4: pack queen. Oh I bet I'm going to do it.
- 26:53Speaker 4: I'll end up divorced.
- 26:54Speaker 3: I shouldn't say's because I'm probably going to try and
- 26:56Speaker 3: get into this. But I'm really bad at it, but
- 26:59Speaker 3: I love it. It's so satisfying.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Also, like, can't be that hard. Men do it all
- 27:03Speaker 1: the time.
- 27:03Speaker 3: It can't be that hard hard exactly.
- 27:06Speaker 4: So you could spread the word on social media, letting
- 27:09Speaker 4: parents or people in your I guess network know that
- 27:11Speaker 4: you're able to handle those tricky or time consuming gift assemblies.
- 27:16Speaker 4: How many of us are like, oh my gosh, scrambling
- 27:19Speaker 4: at the last minute, being like I'm hosting Christmas and
- 27:21Speaker 4: I don't have enough chess.
- 27:23Speaker 1: Do you know what, not only will I pick them
- 27:25Speaker 1: up for you, I'll assemble them. Absolutely, I got you.
- 27:28Speaker 4: So you could join platforms like air Taska again to
- 27:32Speaker 4: help connect you with busy families. You could put an
- 27:34Speaker 4: ad on Facebook marketplace like. There are lots of places
- 27:37Speaker 4: that you could do this because I can almost guarantee
- 27:40Speaker 4: that there are a lot of people who need a
- 27:42Speaker 4: lot of things assembled before Christmas Day. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 27:45Speaker 4: And I looked at air Taska, Beck, do you know
- 27:48Speaker 4: you could earn between eighty five to one hundred and
- 27:50Speaker 4: eighty bucks per assembly job?
- 27:52Speaker 3: Really?
- 27:52Speaker 1: Yeah, beef, real people are paying this, Oh my god.
- 27:56Speaker 4: And these are all jobs that you could do that
- 28:00Speaker 4: literally require I will say, like skill, yes, like you
- 28:03Speaker 4: don't need a degree, Like you could just put your
- 28:04Speaker 4: hand up and be like, I'm a pretty handy person.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll do that.
- 28:07Speaker 1: I'll do that. That's absolutely fine.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Oh my god, that is so great. I did not
- 28:11Speaker 3: realize that was a thing.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Anyway.
- 28:12Speaker 4: That is a lot of money that you could be
- 28:14Speaker 4: making that otherwise somebody else is going to make Yeah.
- 28:17Speaker 3: There actually are a few of these that I'm going
- 28:19Speaker 3: to start doing.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I feel like all of them.
- 28:21Speaker 4: I feel like you probably expected me to be like
- 28:23Speaker 4: passive income or get a Christmas casual job, but that's
- 28:26Speaker 4: not I feel like sometimes to make some money you
- 28:29Speaker 4: actually have to move your butt. You actually have to
- 28:31Speaker 4: put your hands in there and get them a little
