- 0:00Hello beautiful souls, and welcome back to I Care about yout,
- 0:04the podcast where we really think about
- 0:08who we are and how we can live life more fully and more
- 0:13present. And how can we move through the things that
- 0:17happen in our lives that we're not so excited about
- 0:21or that are really challenging or devastating or hard?
- 0:25How can we move through those things, flow through them fully,
- 0:29experiencing them as we should, not bypassing them, but exploring
- 0:33them and using them as tools for
- 0:37self growth. We do journaling here on this channel
- 0:41and the journal prompt today is really interesting. It's from my
- 0:45new book which is due to come out next year, called the Authentic
- 0:50Self Project. And this is from month four.
- 0:54And it's how can I find stability in my life when
- 0:58things feel unstable? How can I find stability in
- 1:03my life when things feel unstable? I think
- 1:07that this unstable energy of the universe is so
- 1:12present for us right now. People are feeling it everywhere
- 1:15and it's coming out in all different kinds of ways.
- 1:19People who aren't recognizing it as the energy of the
- 1:24universe right now or the energy in their community or
- 1:28in their environment, it's coming
- 1:32out kind of sideways, right? So this energy is kind of coming out
- 1:36as like for example, recently at work somebody threw
- 1:40me under the bus for something that was so weird and
- 1:45I was really pissed at them. But I started thinking about
- 1:49like they're grappling with this unstable energy that
- 1:53they have and they're not aware enough to see that it's that.
- 1:57And instead they are lashing out in all
- 2:01these different ways. And I know this is true a lot for parents.
- 2:05I know right now their kids are kind of lashing out and the
- 2:10parents are just totally perplexed as to why that's even happening.
- 2:15And people are getting in arguments that don't make sense.
- 2:19And then they're thinking, why is this happening? Why is this person being this way
- 2:23or acting like this? And a lot of it just has to do
- 2:27with the energy that's around us that's unstable, that's kind
- 2:31of intransient, that's in a shift into the next thing.
- 2:35I know a lot of you out there feel
- 2:38this, myself included in that. There's a shift happening
- 2:42in a lot of ways. Sometimes the energy comes out
- 2:46for me in complete frustration of a tool that
- 2:51I use gets a brand new dashboard, and now I have to learn
- 2:55that. And I'm at capacity with learning things about the
- 2:59computer because so much of what I do evolves
- 3:03around all of these different platforms. And it gets
- 3:07frustrating to have to constantly be Learning something that
- 3:12I'm not psyched about, but yet I have
- 3:16to use for whatever it is that I'm doing. And I
- 3:20find that frustration kind of comes out sideways for me during that time.
- 3:24And really, all this change with what's happening
- 3:29in the world is mirroring. It's being mirrored in
- 3:33our technology. I don't know if you've noticed,
- 3:37but since the new year, this was a big frustration for me. Since the new
- 3:41year, I have noticed that there's so much more
- 3:44double authentication going on. There's so much
- 3:48more changing of everything. My password protector, some of
- 3:53the passwords don't work anymore. And since I don't
- 3:58know what the passwords are, it's creating a lot of frustration just to sign
- 4:01into things. And there's just so much
- 4:05like, oh, then I have to create a pin, and now I have to do
- 4:08this. And, oh, I need to get this app where I can authenticate everything
- 4:11which I have for work, but I've never had to do for myself. And so.
- 4:16And all these platforms changed within the new year.
- 4:20Just the look, the visuals and what they offer and what they don't. And it
- 4:24was even having challenges with the recording
- 4:27video for this podcast. When I do it exactly
- 4:31the same every time, all of a sudden, there was shifts.
- 4:36The. The platform that I used to record this program was not recording
- 4:41the video for whatever reason, just so much. And I realized
- 4:45that the Internet and all the things I use associated
- 4:50with the web are just mirroring this chaos
- 4:55that we're feeling in the world. This shift, this change, this energy
- 5:00unstability that's happening. And that's what kind of brought me to
- 5:04bring this particular prompt to
- 5:08all of you today. Because if you're tuning into this,
- 5:12you are part of the community that's feeling the energy.
- 5:16You might not have tapped into. Like, yes, okay, there's a lot
- 5:20of change going on right now, and I feel
- 5:24it. You might have just been feeling frustration in so many ways and
- 5:28so many things. And, yeah, it's here.
- 5:32It's presenting itself. You're feeling it. There's a lot of
- 5:36change. Life is really fast right now, and it requires
- 5:40change all the time, consistently,
- 5:43everywhere. Where we felt like once we could count on
- 5:47a certain stability in life, like, a certain things.
- 5:51I was talking to friends of mine. I'm in a Dharma
- 5:55group of Dharma sisters, and we were meeting and talking
- 6:00about just a lot of these things,
- 6:04and this came up for people.
- 6:07And one person commented on, I felt this way
- 6:11since COVID Covid turned everything upside down. And we never processed
- 6:15it globally and nationally and personally.
- 6:19We just kind of went on and worked really hard to get back to how
- 6:23things were pre Covid. But we never mourned
- 6:28everything that really happened in Covid. We never addressed
- 6:32it and came to conclusions and
- 6:37found peace with this just
- 6:41crazy thing that happened that we thought would never happen, that turn
- 6:45our lives upside down, that has created now holes and
- 6:49pockets in our lives as we move through life that will
- 6:53appear and reappear again, especially for anyone that was
- 6:57in school during COVID or in anything like that.
- 7:02That this, those Covid years where
- 7:06we were online learning has, it's,
- 7:10it's going to follow with us as we move through our lives.
- 7:14And that's not something we're talking about. And we've adopted
- 7:18a lot of COVID strategies and brought them
- 7:22into the in person classrooms. And what's that going to be like for
- 7:26folks? There's been just this huge upheaval with COVID that
- 7:30we didn't talk about as a nation, as a community,
- 7:34as a group, we didn't respond to in
- 7:38a way that was healthy for people.
- 7:42And now we've found that since we started
- 7:45running to get back to our old lifestyle, once Covid
- 7:49ended, or I shouldn't say ended, it's still around,
- 7:52it's still there. But once the threat became less
- 7:57apparent, here we are just running,
- 8:02running. We've been running since COVID started. You know,
- 8:06when Covid first started, I was working at a university system
- 8:10and we had to pivot to online education in a matter of days.
- 8:14We had 72 hours to the campus closed.
- 8:18We were preparing ahead of time and we had to really prepare
- 8:23for what was going to happen. Not knowing if it would be
- 8:27two months, four months, six months, a quarter.
- 8:30We had no idea it would be as long as it was.
- 8:33And it created this running, this running all the time
- 8:38at work, like doing so much more than normal just to
- 8:42make new different systems work, just to piece together how are
- 8:46we going to educate in a framework that
- 8:50we don't do right now, something totally different, a complete
- 8:55180. And we all started running. Right. I know you
- 8:59probably felt the pressure too at work, like just to keep
- 9:02your job because so many people were losing their jobs. How are you,
- 9:06you know, you're just running fast to keep your job. If you
- 9:11were laid off during COVID you were running to find
- 9:14some stability with that. And a lot of people were laid off of long term
- 9:18jobs that they felt were stable and then all of a sudden were not stable.
- 9:22Everything we knew that was stable became
- 9:26unstable in a matter of hours.
- 9:30And we started running, and we haven't stopped.
- 9:35We're still running, we're still going. We set
- 9:38up an energy of running, and now we can't
- 9:43get out of it. It's like a very strong current that we
- 9:47can't get out of, and we're just trying to stay above water.
- 9:52So many people are doing that right now, and it's become really
- 9:57hard to just find some
- 10:01space, right, to go back to how it was when you used
- 10:05to sit in the backyard for a couple hours on a Saturday, or you had
- 10:09time to garden, or you had time to do a
- 10:13drawing or relax or spend time with friends. And everything's
- 10:17become so expensive and so fast and so much.
- 10:21It's all so much, so much change in this small period
- 10:26of time that we have not stopped to process,
- 10:31both mentally, physically,
- 10:34and also emotionally. We have not stopped to process
- 10:38any of that. We're just running. We're just running and running
- 10:42and running and running and trying to get back to a
- 10:47space that was. That's in the past that we can't get
- 10:51back to or is going to be a huge challenge to really get
- 10:55back to. The only way we as a society can get
- 10:59back to that now is to collectively decide
- 11:03to go back to that, and we're not there yet.
- 11:07And it's creating just a slot of shift where you feel
- 11:12unsteady on the ground, you feel unsteady
- 11:15in things, unsteady in your job, unsteady in what will happen
- 11:19next, unsteady into what to invest in,
- 11:22unsteady into what to let go of. It's a lot,
- 11:26and that's why this prompt is so important.
- 11:29How can I find stability in my life when things feel unstable?
- 11:34This is a way to
- 11:38develop some tools for this chaotic
- 11:42life that we found ourselves in, for this unstable
- 11:46energy that we're experiencing right now. How can I
- 11:50find stability when I feel unstable? What are
- 11:54some things that I can cling to that I can
- 11:58look for, that I can pull into my life that will help
- 12:02me find some stability? Is it taking some
- 12:06time to be with people? Is it long walks
- 12:11in nature? Is it making time to sit in the backyard?
- 12:15Is it volunteering to walk dogs?
- 12:19Is it a change in what you do for a living, in your
- 12:23job? Is it a shift in how you organize
- 12:27your family life? What is necessary to
- 12:32bring you some stability when life is unstable?
- 12:36What is it? A talk with a good friend?
- 12:39A cup of tea? Some small tangible things?
- 12:43It can also Be bigger things. What can I do to find
- 12:47stability when I feel unstable? It could be, maybe it's now
- 12:51time to go to therapy, or maybe I need to go to acupuncture, or maybe
- 12:55I need to get rebalanced, or maybe I need to kick
- 12:59back up my meditation practice. What is it that
- 13:04you need to be able to find some stability? Where does
- 13:09stable life exist right now for
- 13:13you? For me, some stability is
- 13:17in things I do that are off the
- 13:22screen because I spend so much time on screen.
- 13:25Things like I can find stability in
- 13:29my yoga practice, my meditation practice.
- 13:33I can find stability in searching out
- 13:37people who feel the same as I do. Even if you found
- 13:42a group that feels like the world is unstable,
- 13:45like my Dharma group,
- 13:51if we all feel the same way, there's some stability in that,
- 13:55right? Because I'm not alone wondering if I'm
- 13:59blowing things out of proportion or if I'm feeling like I'm
- 14:04the only one that thinks this way. That creates its own instability in
- 14:08itself. Because we all want to be part of a group. That's just human
- 14:12nature, right? We all want to have the same. Find a pocket
- 14:16of people who feel like we do, and that creates some stability.
- 14:20When you're grappling with things on your own,
- 14:24often it creates more instability because this
- 14:28whole other internal dialogue comes into play. Like, you know,
- 14:32you are crazy that you think this. You're the only one
- 14:36that thinks this. It's silly. People are gonna think there's something wrong with you if
- 14:41you think this. Just keep going with your life. Things are
- 14:45stable. Look at you. You're stable. You know, you.
- 14:49You just. Are you feeling sorry for yourself? You know, all this negative self
- 14:53talk comes up when you're dealing with stuff by yourself because
- 14:56the instability of dealing with it by yourself is
- 15:01in itself creating a bit of chaos for you.
- 15:05So perhaps it's finding like minded folks
- 15:08or having a conversation with a friend you think might feel
- 15:12the same way or might
- 15:16be journaling about it to figure out exactly what are the tools that
- 15:20you already have that you can use to find stability.
- 15:24And what are some tools you might not have used before
- 15:28that might help you find stability? It might be therapy.
- 15:32It might be tuning into other groups
- 15:36or people on YouTube or somewhere
- 15:40else who feel the same way that you do and can find some
- 15:44sense of stability there. It's also coming to
- 15:48terms with the fact that life is about change.
- 15:52Things don't say the same. When you think about yesterday,
- 15:56you're older today. It's not the same. You're not the
- 16:00same. You're not exactly the same. Maybe yesterday
- 16:05you felt good right now. And maybe right
- 16:09now in this moment, you're starving, you're hungry.
- 16:13Things change. Everything changes throughout
- 16:17the day, throughout the seasons, throughout the time. The days are
- 16:21getting darker now, earlier. Things change, everything changes.
- 16:26And finding some stability with the fact
- 16:30that things will change and how do I flow through change when it happens,
- 16:35but also how do I recognize something
- 16:39that's really stable in my life right now? I don't have
- 16:43to think, oh, this is going to be stable for a lifetime, is it stable
- 16:47right now? What is stable right now in your life today
- 16:51that you can rest in?
- 16:54And what is not that
- 16:59you need to find some support with what instability is
- 17:03really making your stomach turn, your heart race,
- 17:06butterflies, all those things,
- 17:09you know, your shortness of breath. What are those instable
- 17:14things that are happening right now that are causing this reaction in your
- 17:18body, in your mind, in your thoughts, in your emotions?
- 17:22And how can you find something that's stable
- 17:26to rest in? Because we all have to move through the
- 17:29instability. You can't ignore it. It's not going to go away.
- 17:34But you can find tools to help you deal with instability
- 17:39when it happens. Because believe me, it will come back around because
- 17:42life is about change. So this
- 17:47prompt, how do I find stability when my life
- 17:51feels unstable? When things feel unstable is
- 17:55so important because here
- 17:59you are exploring what tools you have
- 18:03and what tools can you go get to
- 18:07create stability in a moment for you?
- 18:09Mindfulness is a huge thing with that because it's
- 18:14all about being here now. As Ram Dass has
- 18:17coined be here now in that moment.
- 18:21You can find stability. If you can do that. If meditation is
- 18:26not your jam and mindfulness is not your jam, there are so many other tools
- 18:30at play where you can find stability in the moment. Even when you
- 18:34feel like everything is crumbling down.
- 18:37Finding that anchor of stability is important
- 18:41as we move through life. It's life saving
- 18:45tool. So I hope you'll give this prompt some deep
- 18:49thought and let me know what you come up with. I would love to know.
- 18:53You know, as you know, many of you can interact with me online,
- 18:59on my website, on Instagram,
- 19:02you can leave comments, whatever. If you're listening
- 19:06or watching on a platform that allows whatever you
- 19:10need to do, tell me how you find stability. Because your,
- 19:16your anchors can help somebody else
- 19:20that doesn't realize that could be an anchor. You know, it's really,
- 19:24really important to share these things with each other because that's
- 19:28how we start the energy of stability by
- 19:33all coming together and creating a space where
- 19:38we're helping one another, we're being kind to one another,
- 19:40and we're blossoming into
- 19:45something that is more stable,
- 19:49more quiet, more kind. We all
- 19:53have to take part in that movement, whatever it is.
- 19:56So, dear friend, I can't wait to hear how this prompt
- 20:00works for you again. As I say, it's from my new book that's
- 20:04coming out next year, which is the Authentic
- 20:09Life Project. My current book,
- 20:13Reasons to Live, is out now. You can buy it anywhere
- 20:17that you like. This has a lot of practices for
- 20:21dealing with when you find yourself in really dark
- 20:25times and you need help and when you are
- 20:28helping others others through dark times. That's the book.
- 20:32So please order it if you've ordered, if you've already have
- 20:36it. Thank you so much for rating.
- 20:41Means a lot. It gets the book out to other people. It's an indie published
- 20:45book, so it's not a big five book and
- 20:49word of mouth is super helpful in that regard.
- 20:53So thank you, thank you, thank you so much. Don't forget, forget about our sponsors,
- 20:57cozyearth.com they were just in a bunch of surveys
- 21:01about the best throw blanket and
- 21:05they were rated. Theirs was highly rated. It's really
- 21:09incredible. And you can currently get, I think it's 30%
- 21:12off right now using the promo code. I care about you.
- 21:17So check that out. They have some wonderful holiday gifts too.
- 21:21And then on also Zevo Life, which is also in the
- 21:24description, which is an antioxidant drink that
- 21:28is so helpful and can really help
- 21:32you, especially in these changing times. You might feel really low energy,
- 21:36but what can you do to bring up your energy level?
- 21:40And Zevo Life is a great way to do that. And both the links and
- 21:44the promo codes are in the show notes along with a link
- 21:48to my book and my website and all those kinds of things.
- 21:52So thank you, thank you, thank you so much for being here, for making the
- 21:56time for yourself, for supporting me and
- 22:00my podcast. I so, so appreciate each and every
- 22:04one of you. I wish you all the best today and beyond.
- 22:08So please take good care my friends and know that I love you and
- 22:13I can care about you and I support you and we can
- 22:17get through this instability together. So take good care.
