- 0:00Dave Hamilton: Business Brain, episode 802 for Wednesday, November 4th. Use your Common Sense Day 2026.
- 0:09Shannon Jean: We're often in short supply.
- 0:11Dave Hamilton: Yeah, if it were common, we wouldn't need it so much.
- 0:16Shannon Jean: It's an oxymoron, right?
- 0:17Dave Hamilton: It is. Yeah, there's a lot of morons. Wait, no, that's not what we're saying.
- 0:22Dave Hamilton: Greetings, folks, and welcome to Business Brain, the show where we take some
- 0:25Dave Hamilton: ideas, we crunch them, we dissect them, we use them to tune our business brains
- 0:30Dave Hamilton: so we can keep on living those charmed lives
- 0:33Dave Hamilton: our sponsors for this week include steo.com slash business brain where you can
- 0:38Dave Hamilton: get 20 off of your orders and nordlayer.com slash ai-scout slash business brain uh
- 0:47Dave Hamilton: where you can use nordlayer ai scout to see all the ai usage across your company
- 0:52Dave Hamilton: it's really cool and you can click the link in our show notes you don't have to um
- 0:57Dave Hamilton: uh you don't have to to remember that link uh we'll talk about those in a little
- 1:01Dave Hamilton: bit for now here in durham new hampshire i'm dave hamilton
- 1:04Shannon Jean: And out here in northern california i'm shannon gene i just happen to be wearing
- 1:08Shannon Jean: i can't make the heart over the steo but i wanted to uh my steo jacket today
- 1:13Shannon Jean: i didn't know weird that they were on the show today i knew they were coming
- 1:16Shannon Jean: on but that's great i love this thing same.
- 1:18Dave Hamilton: Super comfortable yeah they it's comfortable they fits well yeah we'll talk
- 1:21Dave Hamilton: about it a little bit lightweight Lightweight, lightweight, yes, yes.
- 1:24Shannon Jean: It's super great, I love it. Yeah, I'm a big fan of layering.
- 1:28Shannon Jean: Hey, I wanna talk about rules. Can we talk about rules for a little bit?
- 1:32Dave Hamilton: I hate rules, Shannon.
- 1:33Shannon Jean: I do too. However, when you build your business, you know, you kinda have to
- 1:39Shannon Jean: have some rules. I agree. You try to keep it, and what I've noticed over time,
- 1:47Shannon Jean: What often happens is that the rules start to stack up.
- 1:52Dave Hamilton: Yeah, okay. Yeah, sure.
- 1:54Shannon Jean: Things happen. Things happen. And what I want to suggest is what I call LCD rules.
- 2:01Shannon Jean: Don't make LCD rules. And LCD stands for lowest common denominator.
- 2:06Dave Hamilton: No, not liquid crystal display rules. So we're still allowed to use LCDs. Okay, got it.
- 2:10Shannon Jean: Yes, there's no trademark. But it's very appropriate that it's on use your common
- 2:15Shannon Jean: sense day because many of the things that happen in your business that,
- 2:24Shannon Jean: you would think you may need a policy, a procedure, a rule, if you will, you actually don't.
- 2:33Shannon Jean: And I'm here to tell you that if you make LCD lowest common denominator rules,
- 2:38Shannon Jean: you're going to regret it.
- 2:40Shannon Jean: And what I mean by that is if a customer has a problem, if an employee has a
- 2:46Shannon Jean: problem, if something happens,
- 2:49Shannon Jean: I suggest that you should study and think about it and see if it starts happening more than once.
- 2:55Dave Hamilton: Well, that was where I was going to go with this. I was going to say don't make
- 3:01Dave Hamilton: rules for the first time something happens.
- 3:06Dave Hamilton: Address it. Deal with it.
- 3:08Shannon Jean: Of course. You have to solve the problem.
- 3:10Dave Hamilton: And move on.
- 3:11Shannon Jean: Yeah, resist the and I would say the more managers and supervisors you have
- 3:16Shannon Jean: in your organization, the more you have to fight against this.
- 3:20Shannon Jean: Yeah, because they're trying to do their job.
- 3:22Shannon Jean: And they say, Oh, look, this customer had a problem and this happened.
- 3:25Shannon Jean: So we're going to change, we're going to set this procedure now that every time
- 3:29Shannon Jean: something we do this, we're going to we're going to change this because we don't
- 3:33Shannon Jean: want that to happen again.
- 3:34Shannon Jean: And my comment is always like, okay, is this a one-time problem or a systemic problem?
- 3:42Shannon Jean: Yes. If it's a systemic problem that you see happening, reoccurring,
- 3:46Shannon Jean: then all for, you know, yes, I'm all for implementing change.
- 3:51Dave Hamilton: Well, and I mean, the nice part about these kinds of rules is they're not so
- 3:56Dave Hamilton: much rules in the sense of like the rules I don't like.
- 4:00Dave Hamilton: They are, if this, then that. They are procedures, right?
- 4:03Dave Hamilton: Procedures. We know what to do when some, when X happens, we do Y,
- 4:09Dave Hamilton: right. But the, the, like, I am very much on board with the don't race to make
- 4:14Dave Hamilton: these for a one time thing.
- 4:19Dave Hamilton: Uh, I mean, unless, and of course there's exceptions to every rule,
- 4:23Dave Hamilton: uh, but you know, there are, there are some of these things where it's like,
- 4:27Dave Hamilton: actually we should make one of those for this because we don't want to miss
- 4:30Dave Hamilton: this ever again. You know, that kind of thing.
- 4:32Shannon Jean: Yeah, something serious and different things, especially like customer complaints
- 4:37Shannon Jean: or feedback. Oh, good, no.
- 4:39Shannon Jean: Because you can't, you're going to get all kinds of feedback.
- 4:42Shannon Jean: And one of the things that you taught me years ago, Dave, was it's way more
- 4:47Shannon Jean: likely that you're going to get negative feedback.
- 4:49Shannon Jean: It's just, you know, you're going to always hear that 10 times or 20 times more
- 4:54Shannon Jean: than you would a customer taking time out of their day to leave some positive feedback, right?
- 5:00Shannon Jean: Yep. It's just, I don't know if that's part of the human condition or what it
- 5:03Shannon Jean: is. But so don't, you could also say, don't be so reactive. Solve the problem.
- 5:08Shannon Jean: You know, use the two tokens method of customer service. If you don't know what
- 5:12Shannon Jean: that is, businessbrain.show, search for token, you'll find it.
- 5:17Shannon Jean: And move on. And if you start to see similar things happen again,
- 5:21Shannon Jean: okay, hey, you know what? This is an ongoing problem.
- 5:24Dave Hamilton: Let's address it. Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:26Shannon Jean: Let's address it.
- 5:27Dave Hamilton: Yeah.
- 5:28Shannon Jean: That's my small tip of the day, but I think it's important.
- 5:31Dave Hamilton: I think it's a really important one because it'll save you a lot of time.
- 5:37Dave Hamilton: And it'll save you from having a laundry list of procedures that are,
- 5:43Dave Hamilton: that are wasting time that nobody follows. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:47Dave Hamilton: I would say audit your, you know, related to this audit, your list of,
- 5:52Dave Hamilton: of rules, procedures, whatever you want to call them, uh, on a regular basis,
- 5:56Dave Hamilton: you know, twice a year so that you're like, is this still relevant?
- 6:01Dave Hamilton: Let's yeah. And, and do we still want it?
- 6:04Shannon Jean: Yeah. Yeah, like we shipped, I shipped tons of stuff every day in all these businesses.
- 6:09Shannon Jean: And so it's always packing boxes. And it's like from a most basic level,
- 6:14Shannon Jean: there really is like, if you have more than three or four like steps to ship
- 6:20Shannon Jean: an order, it's a problem.
- 6:23Shannon Jean: Because you may not be hiring the most skilled workers to put things in boxes.
- 6:30Shannon Jean: And you need to have things posted that are correct. If you have a 10-step process
- 6:35Shannon Jean: to ship a package, you're not going to get consistent things.
- 6:39Shannon Jean: You need to boil it down. You're making it too complicated.
- 6:42Shannon Jean: Simplify and look at how things are done around you so you don't have to give
- 6:47Shannon Jean: so much instruction because nobody reads.
- 6:49Shannon Jean: It's like we always say here, your terms and conditions are not going to protect you.
- 6:53Dave Hamilton: Right? No, no.
- 6:56Shannon Jean: You're arguing after the fact
- 6:57Shannon Jean: and they didn't read your terms and conditions and it doesn't go well.
- 7:02Dave Hamilton: Love it. No, it's good advice. It's good advice. If you have advice that you
- 7:06Dave Hamilton: want to share, folks, feedback at businessbrain.show. Make sure we know about
- 7:11Dave Hamilton: it or tag us on the socials, whatever it is.
- 7:13Dave Hamilton: We have, I want to ask you a question.
- 7:16Shannon Jean: Very important.
- 7:18Dave Hamilton: I want to ask you a very important question later, Shannon. In fact,
- 7:22Dave Hamilton: I'll tell you what the question is.
- 7:24Dave Hamilton: And then I want to tell you about our sponsors. The question is,
- 7:27Dave Hamilton: should we talk about the government?
- 7:30Dave Hamilton: And now we're not going to talk about the government. We're going to talk about our sponsors.
- 7:36Dave Hamilton: Look, anybody who spends time in mountain towns already knows the tell, right?
- 7:41Dave Hamilton: The visitors wear whatever the big catalog sold them. And the locals are all
- 7:46Dave Hamilton: in something you've never heard of.
- 7:49Dave Hamilton: Well, in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, that's our sponsor, Steele.
- 7:54Dave Hamilton: Designed and tested right at the base of the Tetons by people who ski,
- 7:58Dave Hamilton: bike, climb, and fish there every day, 15 years running.
- 8:03Dave Hamilton: My Furnos insulated showed up, and this thing is awesome, Shannon.
- 8:08Dave Hamilton: Lightweight, breathable through the arms, insulated through the torso.
- 8:12Dave Hamilton: When I put it on, it, like, feels like I'm wearing a windbreaker,
- 8:16Dave Hamilton: and it's warm like I'm wearing so much more.
- 8:20Dave Hamilton: I keep patting my own sleeve mid-conversation to confirm it's real.
- 8:24Dave Hamilton: It fits well. Their sizing tool guided me perfectly.
- 8:30Dave Hamilton: For actual ski days, if you want their Environ jacket, pants,
- 8:35Dave Hamilton: and bib are the all-mountain workhorse.
- 8:39Dave Hamilton: Fast groomers, side country hikes, or waist-deep powder if you get lucky.
- 8:43Dave Hamilton: That's the charmed life, right? Being the one who already knows.
- 8:47Dave Hamilton: Ski season's almost here. Gear up now the way the locals do.
- 8:51Dave Hamilton: Go to steo.com slash businessbrain for 20% off your order. That's S-T-I-O dot
- 8:59Dave Hamilton: com slash businessbrain.
- 9:00Dave Hamilton: Steo.com slash businessbrain. Steo, designed and tested in Jackson Hole.
- 9:06Dave Hamilton: Go check it out. I think you're going to like it as much as we do.
- 9:10Dave Hamilton: And our thanks to Steele for sponsoring Business Brain.
- 9:14Dave Hamilton: And sooner or later, a customer is going to ask you how you govern AI at your company.
- 9:22Dave Hamilton: And trust us is not an answer, right? A report is. I saw this first come up
- 9:27Dave Hamilton: in a contract that we had to sign, you know, or that somebody proposed that we sign.
- 9:31Dave Hamilton: It seemed like a reasonable clause. So it was kind of hard to say no, but I didn't know. Well,
- 9:37Dave Hamilton: That's what NordLayer AI Scout, our sponsor, gives you.
- 9:41Dave Hamilton: It's the visibility layer for enterprise AI. Every AI tool your team is actually
- 9:46Dave Hamilton: using, web and desktop, all in one console.
- 9:50Dave Hamilton: It catches sensitive data, source code, APIs, customer lists,
- 9:54Dave Hamilton: before anything reaches a public model.
- 9:57Dave Hamilton: It keeps a searchable audit trail of who used what and when.
- 10:02Dave Hamilton: It'll even show you which outside servers your developers' coding agents are connecting to.
- 10:08Dave Hamilton: The first step to AI governance is visibility. You got to know.
- 10:12Dave Hamilton: My own AI audit trail is currently in a folder named MISC and,
- 10:16Dave Hamilton: you know, a deeply confident memory.
- 10:18Dave Hamilton: That's not going to work when I got to sign a contract about this.
- 10:22Dave Hamilton: And that's the charmed life, right?
- 10:24Dave Hamilton: Having the receipts before anybody asks for them.
- 10:27Dave Hamilton: Find out what your team is actually doing with ai at nordlayer.com slash ai-scout
- 10:34Dave Hamilton: slash business brain or you can just visit businessbrain.show we have the link
- 10:37Dave Hamilton: right there to click and we can even
- 10:39Dave Hamilton: send you an email with all the show notes and everything go check it out i think
- 10:42Dave Hamilton: you're going to like it it's very cool and our thanks to
- 10:46Dave Hamilton: nordlayer ai scout for sponsoring business brain
- 10:50Dave Hamilton: All right, Shannon. So we got we got two options in our business.
- 10:54Dave Hamilton: We can talk about the weather. We can talk about the government.
- 10:58Dave Hamilton: Now, I the question, it's something we've discussed a few times over the 12
- 11:04Dave Hamilton: plus years that we've been doing this show.
- 11:06Dave Hamilton: But it I don't want us to talk about the government here.
- 11:11Dave Hamilton: And maybe that that that gives the answer to the yes or no question,
- 11:14Dave Hamilton: which you should never have a segment with just a yes or no question.
- 11:17Dave Hamilton: But but should we talk about the government in our businesses?
- 11:20Dave Hamilton: We see business owners doing it. We see businesses in general doing it,
- 11:26Dave Hamilton: you know, guiding people telling sharing their political feelings,
- 11:30Dave Hamilton: all of that stuff, including politics in their business.
- 11:36Dave Hamilton: That's not a political business, right? You know, making their business political when it's not.
- 11:41Dave Hamilton: And like, it's fascinating to me that
- 11:45Dave Hamilton: I'm even having this conversation, but I see so many small business owners feeling
- 11:52Dave Hamilton: like this is something that they want to do.
- 11:58Dave Hamilton: And I've never understood it, but I've always said I lack the gene that makes
- 12:08Dave Hamilton: me emotional about national politics.
- 12:10Dave Hamilton: Doesn't mean I don't have thoughts about national politics. I just,
- 12:14Dave Hamilton: I don't know. I don't know.
- 12:15Shannon Jean: Well, yeah, I don't think it's a good idea, but I also think there is a difference
- 12:22Shannon Jean: between talking about...
- 12:25Shannon Jean: Government and talking about politics. Sure. And I think there is a fine line.
- 12:30Shannon Jean: Like, for example, I tend, when I'm talking to someone and something comes up,
- 12:38Shannon Jean: I always try to, I'm critical of both sides, right? Or all sides,
- 12:43Shannon Jean: let's say, because there's more than two.
- 12:45Shannon Jean: I'm very critical of the primarily physical responsibility in the government.
- 12:52Shannon Jean: Okay. I'm very critical of that.
- 12:53Shannon Jean: So my advice this election cycle, if anybody asked me about it, I would just say – See.
- 12:59Dave Hamilton: I didn't want to talk about politics on the show, so we're not going to do that.
- 13:03Dave Hamilton: So I'm going to stop you. There's no advice to share.
- 13:06Shannon Jean: No, no. But I would say it's an overall – that's where it comes down to government
- 13:10Shannon Jean: versus politics. I think you can say – but why do you want to do it as a business owner?
- 13:16Dave Hamilton: Because you have a platform? I think to me both of these things are the same question.
- 13:23Dave Hamilton: Should we talk about the government? Should we talk about politics?
- 13:27Dave Hamilton: Because invariably, it is going to be divisive.
- 13:32Dave Hamilton: Yes, it is. And if it's not related to your business, there are some businesses
- 13:38Dave Hamilton: that are actually in the political. And there are some podcasts.
- 13:42Dave Hamilton: Like, obviously, there are podcasts that are about politics.
- 13:46Dave Hamilton: If they didn't talk about politics on those, I would be disappointed in them.
- 13:50Dave Hamilton: Yeah, exactly. But everything else, it just doesn't – I've never understood
- 13:56Dave Hamilton: the desire. I guess maybe the way to say it.
- 13:59Shannon Jean: Oh, I think I understand it.
- 14:00Dave Hamilton: Oh, no, I understand it. I've never understood the desire.
- 14:08Dave Hamilton: The wisdom behind the decision to choose to build in a platform in some way,
- 14:15Dave Hamilton: right? Every business becomes its own platform, right? It does.
- 14:18Dave Hamilton: You know, in its own various ways, you will get customers. They are your audience.
- 14:24Dave Hamilton: And there's this temptation, and this part I do understand for sure,
- 14:28Dave Hamilton: a human temptation that when you have an audience that is paying attention to you for one thing
- 14:36Dave Hamilton: that you start to believe that they want to hear what you have to say about other things
- 14:43Dave Hamilton: right and generally speaking they don't and also generally speaking that's correct
- 14:49Dave Hamilton: when you bring in a topic that is polarizing
- 14:54Dave Hamilton: and you start to talk about it you wind up alienating half of your potential
- 15:00Dave Hamilton: customers audience whatever you want to call it again
- 15:03Dave Hamilton: unless your business is in one of these realms and it just it always fascinates
- 15:08Dave Hamilton: me when i see a business choose to do this and i don't think the choice is being made
- 15:16Dave Hamilton: objectively i think it's being made emotionally most of the time yeah it
- 15:19Shannon Jean: Definitely being made emotionally i think.
- 15:21Dave Hamilton: You you're frustrated themselves like yeah like they're like like you could
- 15:25Dave Hamilton: almost not help yourself i yes yes yes right you know it's like you get
- 15:28Shannon Jean: Frustrated with certain.
- 15:29Dave Hamilton: Things of course you
- 15:31Shannon Jean: You have this audience and you're like wow uh how do how do I vent,
- 15:35Shannon Jean: a lot of it is how do I vent things? That's it. And so,
- 15:42Shannon Jean: yeah, and I think now it's even a little stickier because even beyond,
- 15:48Shannon Jean: politics or government there's certain individuals that you have to be careful
- 15:52Shannon Jean: uh associating talking about in relation to your business you can do whatever
- 15:57Shannon Jean: in your personal life of course but,
- 16:00Shannon Jean: uh you know it it's just better not not to do it just find some other way find
- 16:05Shannon Jean: some other release valve for your uh whatever admittedly frustration with whatever,
- 16:13Shannon Jean: i think that's that's the way to go all.
- 16:15Dave Hamilton: Right so we've made that decision great yes that we are we are we our our advice is don't
- 16:24Dave Hamilton: incorporate don't unnecessarily incorporate politics into your business if it's
- 16:31Dave Hamilton: correct contextually relevant then it's already there you're done
- 16:35Dave Hamilton: but if it's not don't shove it in now yes okay so we've now i'm gonna
- 16:41Dave Hamilton: i'm definitely gonna like manipulate what we're saying here so you're saying
- 16:46Dave Hamilton: yes not to politics we're are we saying yes don't um
- 16:53Dave Hamilton: i'm actually i'm not gonna ask the question i'm gonna use the transitive property
- 16:56Dave Hamilton: i'm gonna shove words in in our mouths here so we say no to politics therefore we say no
- 17:02Dave Hamilton: to divisive subject matter in general right same same policy applies i i realize
- 17:08Dave Hamilton: just bear with me okay it's great license here right it seems same
- 17:13Dave Hamilton: it like you're still going to divide your if the subject matter is divisive
- 17:17Dave Hamilton: you will divide your audience right uh so
- 17:22Dave Hamilton: Should we talk about AI in our businesses? If your business has nothing to do
- 17:27Dave Hamilton: with AI, but you happen to be choosing to use it or happen to be choosing not
- 17:35Dave Hamilton: to use it in your business,
- 17:36Dave Hamilton: AI in many circles is a divisive topic.
- 17:42Dave Hamilton: Should we, whether you use it or not, should you talk about it?
- 17:48Shannon Jean: Yeah, that's good.
- 17:51Shannon Jean: But I would use the same rule. Unless it's part of your business,
- 17:57Shannon Jean: there is no need to discuss it, what you're doing with it.
- 18:01Shannon Jean: Because I think, and we can have a discussion of whether this is right or wrong,
- 18:07Shannon Jean: but the narrative on AI is negative in the sense of from a human standpoint.
- 18:14Dave Hamilton: And if this is my opinion. i think some i i think it is negative with some groups of people
- 18:21Shannon Jean: Yes some groups of people and it is positive with others oh of course uh i think that.
- 18:28Dave Hamilton: Uh just like politics
- 18:29Shannon Jean: Just like politics so there is you don't need to mention it uh however if your business does um,
- 18:41Shannon Jean: It could be a competitive advantage if you promoted that, look,
- 18:45Shannon Jean: you get to talk to an actual human.
- 18:48Shannon Jean: You get to, we're going to have, there's actually a human behind the chat or
- 18:53Shannon Jean: there is no AI slop. I mean, I could see companies going the opposite to try
- 18:59Shannon Jean: to build on the human connection aspect of it.
- 19:02Shannon Jean: That maybe some demographics perceive as a negative.
- 19:07Dave Hamilton: I can see that. And I see businesses doing that. yeah of course
- 19:13Dave Hamilton: that is alienating to the people who are all in on ai all in on ai right i mean
- 19:20Dave Hamilton: it winds up it winds up sending the message to those people like the message
- 19:25Dave Hamilton: that you get when somebody says yeah you know we have no ai slop here we have
- 19:28Dave Hamilton: no like to me when somebody says we have no ai slop
- 19:34Dave Hamilton: we because we don't use ai what what that tells me because i'm and i know this
- 19:40Dave Hamilton: is true of all of us who are listening here
- 19:44Dave Hamilton: Uh i'm capable of nuanced thinking right it's not binary everything of course
- 19:48Dave Hamilton: everything that ai generates is not slop there there is a lot of slop in the
- 19:53Dave Hamilton: wrong hands or in in the hands of someone being lazy even if it's the right
- 19:56Dave Hamilton: hand Yes, I can generate a I slop to I'm
- 19:59Dave Hamilton: I'm also quite skilled with with a I and I know how to generally not create
- 20:04Dave Hamilton: stop, but I certainly can if I'm being lazy. Uh.
- 20:08Dave Hamilton: When someone, but I don't communicate, we don't generate AI slop.
- 20:13Dave Hamilton: What I do is I don't generate AI slop. Yeah, got it. Right?
- 20:19Dave Hamilton: And if I were to, there's a distinction there. Because if I'm out there beating
- 20:23Dave Hamilton: a drum saying, I don't generate AI slop, that's going to alienate someone who doesn't understand.
- 20:30Dave Hamilton: If all they're hearing from me is that, they don't know how nuanced it is for me.
- 20:37Dave Hamilton: And that's what I'm saying. You've got to be really careful with how is this
- 20:40Dave Hamilton: going to come across, not how do you think about it. You already know everything you know.
- 20:46Dave Hamilton: Someone who is hearing you say something for the first time,
- 20:50Dave Hamilton: did they just choose not to do business with you because they think that you
- 20:54Dave Hamilton: are ignorant about AI, for example?
- 20:58Shannon Jean: Yeah, maybe. And I think, yeah, I would say you should be,
- 21:06Shannon Jean: there's no reason to discuss how you're going to answer their call in 30 seconds
- 21:11Shannon Jean: because you've got an AI agent or you've got whatever.
- 21:14Shannon Jean: You just need to provide the best service possible. That's it.
- 21:17Shannon Jean: And the best product possible. And it's the same with politics and government.
- 21:22Shannon Jean: You know, people don't want to hear it. And we get it enough,
- 21:25Shannon Jean: right? We're almost, thank goodness, at the end of this midterm election cycle
- 21:30Shannon Jean: we're going through right now.
- 21:31Dave Hamilton: By the time this episode comes out, it's over. Yeah, it'll be over. Maybe.
- 21:35Shannon Jean: We hope so. It won't be over. I live in California. It takes months.
- 21:42Shannon Jean: But, yeah, I'm very, I think that's a really good way to look at it,
- 21:46Shannon Jean: is that any divisive topic you should consider, if it's not,
- 21:54Shannon Jean: If you're not in the business, like if you're an AI consultant or,
- 21:59Shannon Jean: hey, I can help your business integrate AI into your systems,
- 22:02Shannon Jean: that's different, right?
- 22:03Dave Hamilton: Very different, obviously.
- 22:04Shannon Jean: Very different, obviously. But if you're an HVAC company or,
- 22:11Shannon Jean: an advertising company or whatever, I don't think you should be discussing it.
- 22:16Dave Hamilton: I agree. No.
- 22:17Shannon Jean: Keep it to when you're hanging out around the campfire.
- 22:19Dave Hamilton: Yeah, well, keep it until you can actually have a conversation with someone,
- 22:23Dave Hamilton: right? The problem is in your marketing, which includes your social media,
- 22:28Dave Hamilton: any one person might only see one sliver of what you're saying.
- 22:34Dave Hamilton: And you don't have the opportunity to read their reaction, right?
- 22:39Dave Hamilton: Right. You lose them before you know them.
- 22:41Shannon Jean: The nuance that you discussed.
- 22:42Dave Hamilton: Yeah, the nuance is gone. It doesn't exist. Yeah. So that's the thing. I agree.
- 22:48Shannon Jean: So what's the big takeaway here today?
- 22:51Dave Hamilton: Man, I still think the big takeaway is don't make a rule the first time something
- 22:57Dave Hamilton: happens. Be very careful with your lowest common denominator rules. Yeah.
- 23:02Shannon Jean: Yeah. So don't make rules for idiots. But we'll say it a little nicer.
- 23:06Dave Hamilton: Well, don't make rules when common sense applies.
- 23:12Shannon Jean: There we go.
- 23:13Dave Hamilton: Yeah.
- 23:14Shannon Jean: Only make rules for systemic problems or procedures, whatever you want to call it.
- 23:18Dave Hamilton: Yeah, it's great.
- 23:19Shannon Jean: So we're going to dig deeper into that topic. And you can get that business
- 23:23Shannon Jean: blueprint, essentially a business plan that talks about more in depth of what
- 23:28Shannon Jean: we think about this stuff.
- 23:29Shannon Jean: Businessbrain.show slash blueprints. You can pick up your copy there. It's free.
- 23:35Dave Hamilton: Like he said, businessbrain.show slash blueprints. And send in your stuff.
- 23:38Dave Hamilton: Feedback at businessbrain.show.
- 23:39Dave Hamilton: We love hearing from you. And have a great week. And we'll see you on Friday.
- 23:45Dave Hamilton: Keep living that chart life. See you Friday.
