Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, tolerators, it is officially our summer break for twenty
- 0:04Speaker 1: twenty five, and I just wanted to let you know
- 0:08Speaker 1: that the episode you're about to hear is either Patreon
- 0:12Speaker 1: exclusive content I'm making public an episode I thought it
- 0:17Speaker 1: would be fun to revisit from past years, or a
- 0:22Speaker 1: Still Comfy movie review with Julia Washington. I hope you
- 0:26Speaker 1: have a great summer with lots of great memories. I
- 0:30Speaker 1: hope you keep smiling instead of tolerating. And I will
- 0:34Speaker 1: see you in the fall with all new episodes of
- 0:38Speaker 1: To All the Men I've tolerated before. Okay, I think
- 1:04Speaker 1: we're live, that's what like. It didn't do the countdown
- 1:07Speaker 1: like it did it on your channel? Did do a
- 1:09Speaker 1: countdown for you? No? Did you have a countdown? No?
- 1:13Speaker 1: I did not. But I believe that we're live. I
- 1:16Speaker 1: sure hope. So it's sure scheduled in the corner. Oh,
- 1:20Speaker 1: it says end broadcast in mind and live in my corner.
- 1:24Speaker 1: So you know, let's see who's to say hi everyone.
- 1:27Speaker 1: This is an uncomfortable intro with Still Comfy. It's his life.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Ooh the metaverse behind the scene. I'm feeling it, keeping
- 1:44Speaker 1: my head right here. So no, one knows that I
- 1:46Speaker 1: just create lighting. Hi everyone, this is Still Comfy with
- 1:53Speaker 1: your hosts Nat and Jewels. Today we'll be talking about
- 1:58Speaker 1: the nineteen ninety five Class movie now and then we
- 2:04Speaker 1: don't have a theme song yet on Still Comfy, So
- 2:07Speaker 1: instead I will just ask Jules, what's your favorite song
- 2:11Speaker 1: from the iconic soundtrack? You know, when they're riding their bike. Yeah,
- 2:17Speaker 1: the Other City Shelby huh m, not three Yeah, that's
- 2:28Speaker 1: I love a song that has like folk. I just
- 2:30Speaker 1: did the banging, which is yeah, like literally, I love
- 2:33Speaker 1: a song on it that also has sound effects. Oh yeah,
- 2:36Speaker 1: it's interactive. Mario's here. That's a good reminder if you
- 2:41Speaker 1: were in the audience. We can see that people are watching,
- 2:44Speaker 1: but we don't really see who you are unless you
- 2:47Speaker 1: tell us hello. So please tell us hello in the comments,
- 2:51Speaker 1: tell us hi Mario, and tell them hello. I don't know. No,
- 2:55Speaker 1: it doesn't look like I can, but I can on
- 2:59Speaker 1: the screen. Mario. I'm just telling him.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I said I finished a simple favor the book, and
- 3:06Speaker 2: I'm halfway through the movie.
- 3:08Speaker 1: He's not gonna like what I have to say. Just
- 3:11Speaker 1: know that I like a simple favor, Mario. So if
- 3:15Speaker 1: we need to talk about it afterwards.
- 3:18Speaker 2: We can't, Nat if I record yourself doing reactions to
- 3:21Speaker 2: my episode of a simple favor one hundred person. Well,
- 3:25Speaker 2: you know, I know, I have no chill. I just
- 3:27Speaker 2: finded keeping my notes on my phone would be a
- 3:29Speaker 2: good thing. But are they I don't know.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I have mine. But this is You're You're the lead
- 3:34Speaker 1: this time, so I'm here for you, all right. So
- 3:39Speaker 1: last week, we know, two weeks ago we did Jewel,
- 3:43Speaker 1: we did Elvis. On to pop culture makes me jealous.
- 3:46Speaker 1: I'm just gonna intermingle our show names all the time. Yeah,
- 3:50Speaker 1: just blend them. Should I introduce myself? Go ahead and
- 3:53Speaker 1: introduce yourself, My friends, Julia Washington, host of Pop Pop
- 3:56Speaker 1: Pop Pop Pop, host of Pop Culture makes me jealous.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Where we analyze pop culture through the lines of race
- 4:03Speaker 1: or gender, and sometimes both. Natalie is the friend who
- 4:09Speaker 1: tolerates me the most. She's willing to let me be
- 4:13Speaker 1: her co host. She was willingly, She was willingly co
- 4:18Speaker 1: creators on this show Still Comfy. Yeah, and our first
- 4:22Speaker 1: still Comfy show on YouTube was on Elvis. And what
- 4:26Speaker 1: this movie and Elvis have in common is songs in
- 4:30Speaker 1: this movie are also my comfort soundtrack just like Elvis.
- 4:34Speaker 2: It's a soundtrack, great soundtrack. A lot of black people
- 4:37Speaker 2: on this soundtrack. For having no black people.
- 4:39Speaker 1: In the morte, no black people in this movie, this
- 4:42Speaker 1: movie be so white. I so there's dialogue when the
- 4:48Speaker 1: songs are playing. Did I stop myself from singing to
- 4:52Speaker 1: then listen to the dialogue because I was like, no,
- 4:54Speaker 1: I know what these girls are talking about. I want
- 4:56Speaker 1: to sing. Turns out after all these I still have
- 5:01Speaker 1: this movie movie memorized, right, And I'm not a huge rewatcher.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure that this one is one that every
- 5:08Speaker 1: time it was on TV, I was like, and here's
- 5:11Speaker 1: my afternoon because and I listened to the soundtrack like
- 5:15Speaker 1: every day as a kid. It was one of the
- 5:17Speaker 1: first like CDs that I owned. I love that. Do
- 5:21Speaker 1: you remember when everyone lost their ish because it went
- 5:23Speaker 1: on Netflix? Yes? I was one of them. Is it still?
- 5:28Speaker 1: Because I had to pay for it through cable? So
- 5:30Speaker 1: I watched it on that thing that you told me
- 5:32Speaker 1: I would have to watch ads for and I was like,
- 5:34Speaker 1: that would probably be good for my ADHD if I
- 5:37Speaker 1: had an ad in between key parts of the movie,
- 5:40Speaker 1: the meo nope pollutant. I'm gonna stop naming people, and
- 5:45Speaker 1: ain't nobody sponsoring us.
- 5:46Speaker 2: I literally just typed in Netflix and instead of now
- 5:50Speaker 2: and then to see where it's streaming.
- 5:52Speaker 1: You know, my favorite song from the soundtrack is heard
- 5:58Speaker 1: of Our Band of Gold. Now that you're gone, that's
- 6:03Speaker 1: all that's left is a band of Gold. I think
- 6:08Speaker 1: it really set me up to distrust men. You know,
- 6:11Speaker 1: I kind of regret not picking that one. But here's why.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I think the Not three Times is.
- 6:15Speaker 2: My favorite because it's their transition going from one city
- 6:20Speaker 2: to the next, and they're free riding their bikes, super
- 6:24Speaker 2: care free. You know, all of the horrors of the nineties,
- 6:28Speaker 2: of all the little girls going missing at this point
- 6:30Speaker 2: don't exist because it's nineteen seventy, even though they didn't
- 6:34Speaker 2: be sure that Charles Manson was still on the loose
- 6:36Speaker 2: at this point.
- 6:37Speaker 1: I don't think I would have survived the seventies. No,
- 6:40Speaker 1: I would member right away Tragic Fear. Oh it's on TV, Yes,
- 6:46Speaker 1: that's where I watched it. We have two viavers now
- 6:49Speaker 1: say hello, so we know who you are because you
- 6:51Speaker 1: can't see you were so happy here. Thank you for
- 6:54Speaker 1: joining us. This is still company. We're talking about our
- 6:57Speaker 1: favorite well, one of my favorite movies. It's also one
- 6:59Speaker 1: of jules favorite movies. Now and Then, Oh I promised
- 7:03Speaker 1: Mario a Pretty Little Liar's connection. Oh yeah, I saw that,
- 7:08Speaker 1: and I was like, Yes, the woman who wrote Now
- 7:11Speaker 1: and Then also wrote and produced Pretty Little Liars. I
- 7:15Speaker 1: immediately clocked her name when I went to look and
- 7:19Speaker 1: see where I could watch it. Oh my gosh, that's wild.
- 7:23Speaker 1: That is wild because Pretty Little Liars completely opposite vibe.
- 7:27Speaker 2: I was gonna say, so, is this an endorsement for
- 7:29Speaker 2: me to watch Pretty Little Liars? Because I realized the
- 7:32Speaker 2: nineties had so many femme forward, female led movies yeah,
- 7:39Speaker 2: that were strong and super like. Hey were people to
- 7:44Speaker 2: stop treating us like trash? That I feel like that's
- 7:47Speaker 2: a huge part of why I am who I am today.
- 7:49Speaker 1: So I'm still really Pretty Little Liars. I'm still reeling
- 7:54Speaker 1: that you haven't watched Pretty Little Liars. No do I
- 7:58Speaker 1: look like the type of person who watches trash. I
- 8:01Speaker 1: watch every show on free Form, whether or not it's good. No,
- 8:06Speaker 1: Pretty was that always a free form show. It was
- 8:08Speaker 1: on ABC Family and then it was on transition from
- 8:13Speaker 1: ABC Family two three FORMA. I'm shopped by that. I
- 8:17Speaker 1: can't believe it. Hey, you know, I think they.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I think after they did The Secret Life of the
- 8:27Speaker 2: American Teenager or whatever, I watched it such trash.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I watched a couple of episodes. I think that's where
- 8:33Speaker 1: I was like, and I'm good for a while, and
- 8:36Speaker 1: then Freeform brought like really good stuff like Grown Ish
- 8:40Speaker 1: and the Bold Type. Who else was on it? Sorry
- 8:44Speaker 1: for that big pop in your ears, friends, Mario ps
- 8:48Speaker 1: L or p l L stand here, you can be
- 8:52Speaker 1: We'll allow it. Well, but back to this, I can't
- 8:58Speaker 1: believe that. No, only pretty Little Liars is what broke
- 9:04Speaker 1: ABC Family because those pretty little liars started getting naked
- 9:07Speaker 1: and then they were like, we have to change the
- 9:09Speaker 1: name of this channel. Is it Isn't it a book series?
- 9:13Speaker 1: It is a book series? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I
- 9:17Speaker 1: have a bunch of little dots on my arms. Should
- 9:19Speaker 1: be worried, I don't know. I'm never worried I have.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I didn't wash makeup off of my wrist, so how'd
- 9:27Speaker 1: that get there? I don't know. I'm worried about it later,
- 9:30Speaker 1: truly living off of chocolate, so that that's probably why.
- 9:34Speaker 1: So there's also okay, so there's a big mystery surrounding
- 9:39Speaker 1: me and now and then, and it has to do
- 9:41Speaker 1: with one of my nineties crushes, Thora Birch. Nineties heart
- 9:48Speaker 1: throb Devin Sawa is in this movie. He was my
- 9:51Speaker 1: nineties crush. Thora Birch is my crush in all things,
- 9:55Speaker 1: And I was, all I want to know is where
- 9:57Speaker 1: she is? Where's Thora birt Could someone please like check
- 10:02Speaker 1: in on Thora Birch for me? You're not still acting
- 10:05Speaker 1: she is, but it's in nothing that I've seen. Don't
- 10:10Speaker 1: go ahead. It's not like I'm watching Gray's Anatomy and
- 10:13Speaker 1: all of a sudden there's my nineties heart throb Thora Birch,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and I'm like, there she is. It's trainy, it's teeny.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. Mario, do you have a crush on
- 10:23Speaker 1: Christina Ricci because I find her fascinating. Are you watching
- 10:28Speaker 1: Yellow Jackets? Anyone who is watching Yellow Jackets please comment it? Yeah,
- 10:33Speaker 1: Mario's seen Yellow Jackets. He's actually Matt He was actually like,
- 10:36Speaker 1: I can't believe you haven't watched it, Julia. Yeah, like
- 10:38Speaker 1: that's a legit conversation we've had.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Well, but now that it's nominated, now that it has
- 10:42Speaker 2: so many Emmy nominations.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I need to sit down and like the time to
- 10:45Speaker 1: watch it. Everyone needs to comment if they've watched Yellow Jackets,
- 10:48Speaker 1: because I need friends to talk to about Yellow Jackets
- 10:51Speaker 1: because none. My mom made me download Showtime. I still
- 10:55Speaker 1: have it because what if I missed when season two
- 10:59Speaker 1: came out here, they'll probably come out in twenty twenty three,
- 11:03Speaker 1: so who knows? Okay now? And then thora Birch is
- 11:07Speaker 1: your crush? She is? I just love her. Oh, I
- 11:11Speaker 1: do love Casper, but Devin Casper. Yeah, same year. Did
- 11:17Speaker 1: you see the weird Devin Sala movie where him and
- 11:22Speaker 1: his brother His brother might have been a Laurence brother,
- 11:24Speaker 1: but I don't think that's right. They go to a mountain.
- 11:27Speaker 1: They go to a mountain that's filled with Kodiak bears
- 11:30Speaker 1: and they're gonna do like, isn't it like the gold
- 11:33Speaker 1: something or other Golden Rush? Hold on, I don't know.
- 11:37Speaker 1: It's got you guys, stop asking me to look at
- 11:41Speaker 1: stuff when we're supposed to be talking about something specific.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Wild America. Yeah, no, one, It's one of those movies
- 11:49Speaker 1: that I'm convinced I made up because when I go
- 11:52Speaker 1: do you remember when Devin Sawa went to go visit
- 11:55Speaker 1: Kodiak bears in their natural habitat. People are like, what, no,
- 11:59Speaker 1: Jonathan Taylor Thomas is in it. Yeah, that's the other
- 12:02Speaker 1: famous person. It's not a Lawrence brother. It might be
- 12:06Speaker 1: the oldest Lawrence brother. But in now and then, there
- 12:13Speaker 1: was a common thread that I found with all of
- 12:16Speaker 1: the adult actresses. So I'm watching the adults because I
- 12:21Speaker 1: love that now and then like bounces between the childhood
- 12:24Speaker 1: and the adults, and I'm looking and I'm like, all right,
- 12:28Speaker 1: is Debbie Moore still cool? Or is she still a
- 12:31Speaker 1: joke because she made a mistake and married Ashton Kutcher.
- 12:36Speaker 1: And then I keep watching and in present day, in
- 12:39Speaker 1: present day, is she still cool because she was made
- 12:42Speaker 1: a joke by Ashton Kutcher? And then I'm still watching,
- 12:46Speaker 1: And then we get Rosie O'Donnell, and I'm like, I
- 12:48Speaker 1: miss when Rosie O'Donnell was cool and we could count
- 12:51Speaker 1: on Rosie o'donnald like being the queen of kindness and
- 12:56Speaker 1: not being a joke, just literally being joyful. But then
- 13:00Speaker 1: we turned her into a joke.
- 13:02Speaker 2: The nineties were kind of a magical time if you
- 13:04Speaker 2: think about it, Like we were still and I don't
- 13:06Speaker 2: know if it's because we were kids, so we were
- 13:08Speaker 2: naive to a lot of the things that were actually
- 13:11Speaker 2: kind of horrific happening.
- 13:12Speaker 1: But like Rosie was the queen of kindness to memore
- 13:16Speaker 1: was still cool. She was hot and beautiful and like,
- 13:20Speaker 1: you know, all these great like I said, all these
- 13:23Speaker 1: great movies that came out for kids like us, all
- 13:26Speaker 1: these great all of these great movies. And then to
- 13:30Speaker 1: round it out, Melanie Griffin is in this movie and
- 13:32Speaker 1: we know that we're not kind about her face anymore.
- 13:36Speaker 1: It makes me upset. We're not. People are like, oh
- 13:39Speaker 1: she got surded me.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Well, she probably got surgery because the media, meaning all
- 13:46Speaker 2: the people probably bullied her.
- 13:47Speaker 1: About how she looked and aging. We're not pro aging
- 13:51Speaker 1: in this culture. We're not aging. So the only one
- 13:54Speaker 1: who made it out of not eventually becoming a joke
- 13:58Speaker 1: to their own career and fan base is Rita Wilson,
- 14:02Speaker 1: who's going to go against Rita Wilson. Why she did
- 14:05Speaker 1: give us chat? She gave us what her son chet
- 14:09Speaker 1: have you never seen? No, I only look into that
- 14:12Speaker 1: cute that other one Colin Colin Hanks. That's not her son,
- 14:16Speaker 1: that's her step son.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Okay, well, I mean, I'm sure she would call him
- 14:20Speaker 2: her you only wanted to care about.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Yeah, but you have to watch the z Way interview.
- 14:27Speaker 1: It's on Choe Time with Chet Hanks.
- 14:30Speaker 2: So it's like, I don't want to write it for you,
- 14:35Speaker 2: but live but livetime voice memoi.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I will you know I will? Yeah. Yeah. Gold Digger
- 14:46Speaker 1: Escape to Bear Mountain.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of because Wild
- 14:50Speaker 2: America released the same weekend as some like big blockbuster movie.
- 14:54Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's probably why I'm the only one Wild America. Yeah.
- 14:59Speaker 2: He just posted about it not that long ago, because
- 15:01Speaker 2: the anniversary of its release was recently.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and he posted the poster. I loved the roso'
- 15:08Speaker 1: donald show. I loved when she would like fling coucheballs
- 15:11Speaker 1: at him. Yeah, Rosi o'donnald knew we all had undiagnosed ah.
- 15:15Speaker 1: And I love that she had like an audience member
- 15:19Speaker 1: do the intro.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Yeah, that was really sweet, Like that was very inclusive.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yeah. When the Rose o'donald show went off the air,
- 15:29Speaker 1: I was forced to watch Mari Okay, and now look
- 15:34Speaker 1: at me. I deserve compensation.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I told me all he married Connie Chung like that's
- 15:41Speaker 2: such a random Like she's actually I don't know if
- 15:43Speaker 2: she still is, but she was a prestigious broadcast journalist.
- 15:47Speaker 1: Right. Basically what happened is that she came out and
- 15:54Speaker 1: then people got homophobic and then like I haven't seen
- 15:58Speaker 1: Rosie o'donald since she didn't the comeback. She's she's she's working. Yeah,
- 16:03Speaker 1: she's done a lot of stuff. Where is she?
- 16:07Speaker 2: She she was she was on Smelf Smelf also on Showtime,
- 16:11Speaker 2: So I'm just gonna I'm just gonna pack your.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Showtime, make it worth it. Okay, this is the first
- 16:20Speaker 1: time in my adult life that I've caught that the
- 16:23Speaker 1: neighborhood is called Gaslight addition. Yeah, I was like, how
- 16:28Speaker 1: have I never caught that before? Because if you think
- 16:30Speaker 1: about it, like their whole upbringing is like gaslight Nation, right,
- 16:36Speaker 1: because like you know, now, I'm not gonna remember any
- 16:44Speaker 1: of their names, and I had all of their names
- 16:45Speaker 1: down pat, but Demi Moore's little girl person Sam, her
- 16:52Speaker 1: dad is a liar and leaves. Yeah. Yeah. Christine Laurichi
- 16:57Speaker 1: is trying to make us all forget that she has breast,
- 17:01Speaker 1: which when I was watching it again, it was like
- 17:03Speaker 1: I can't believe I was convinced that those were big
- 17:05Speaker 1: breasts for a twelve year old. I know. I blame
- 17:09Speaker 1: this movie and the over sexualization of children. Yeah, there
- 17:15Speaker 1: were other may Oh Christina Richie's dad lie to her
- 17:19Speaker 1: about how her mom died, which again he did it
- 17:21Speaker 1: because her mom died horrifically. Yeah. I was gonna say,
- 17:24Speaker 1: I feel like that's a normal thing that adults do
- 17:27Speaker 1: when it comes to death, when it comes to children,
- 17:29Speaker 1: because we as adults don't know how to process death.
- 17:33Speaker 1: And then Brendan Fraser had to let them know that
- 17:35Speaker 1: America was gaslighting them about the war. Yeah, and his
- 17:41Speaker 1: was so cute. He was like a walk on. They
- 17:44Speaker 1: don't even credit him in that movie. Oh that's interesting.
- 17:48Speaker 1: He was like famous by that point. What are they
- 17:50Speaker 1: gonna call him? Like the grifter? I don't know if
- 17:52Speaker 1: he knew Demi Moore and they were hanging out and
- 17:55Speaker 1: she was like, we need an extra today. They could
- 17:57Speaker 1: have called him the vet. They could.
- 18:00Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, And when I was watching the movie,
- 18:02Speaker 2: I thought things that you can't really do anymore, talk
- 18:05Speaker 2: to strangers like that, take a cigarette, offer cigarettes to
- 18:09Speaker 2: twelve year olds?
- 18:12Speaker 1: Was Brendan Fraser creepy in this movie.
- 18:16Speaker 2: See you know, and if it happened, if it were
- 18:18Speaker 2: to happen in a movie today, right, we'd all be upset.
- 18:21Speaker 2: We'd all be upset, but now nostalgically because they were twelve.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I was eleven when this film came out, So there's
- 18:32Speaker 2: an element of like, oh, I want and you know,
- 18:35Speaker 2: the mid nineties there was still a little bit of
- 18:38Speaker 2: false sense of security about letting your children run the
- 18:40Speaker 2: neighborhood without worrying about him this.
- 18:45Speaker 1: My parents would have been thrilled if I rode my
- 18:47Speaker 1: bike to the next town. Wh's the thing though, as
- 18:51Speaker 1: we know, and as we've talked about before, I was
- 18:54Speaker 1: a wildly unsupervised child. Your mom had a handle on it.
- 18:58Speaker 1: It's fine. For as many rules as my parents believed
- 19:01Speaker 1: that they had did, where were they to like check
- 19:05Speaker 1: in to see if I was doing any of that
- 19:08Speaker 1: wildly unsupervised? She had a handle on it. And it's fine.
- 19:11Speaker 1: My mom had a handle on it. So we had
- 19:15Speaker 1: a bike trail that ran from my neighborhood. It like
- 19:19Speaker 1: had a entrance on the park that sat in the
- 19:22Speaker 1: center of my neighborhood in Indiana. Right in Indiana, where
- 19:25Speaker 1: this film is also set, where this film takes place,
- 19:29Speaker 1: and when my sister and I were like in the
- 19:33Speaker 1: fifth grade, like fifth and fourth grade, we would ride
- 19:37Speaker 1: our bikes all the way downtown and just be gone.
- 19:42Speaker 1: This is before cell phones, this is before you could
- 19:44Speaker 1: track your kids, and it's like, where are your kids downtown?
- 19:47Speaker 1: I don't know, and we would just be gone with
- 19:50Speaker 1: all of our like jerk ass friends. We didn't have
- 19:54Speaker 1: a trail. But the way the neighborhood was laid out,
- 19:59Speaker 1: excuse me, it was really easy to get into other neighborhoods,
- 20:02Speaker 1: so it was very easy to end up on the
- 20:04Speaker 1: other side of town. For sure, Downtown was a little
- 20:07Speaker 1: bit harder to try and get to, but that's because
- 20:10Speaker 1: the layout of the city I live. But yeah, parents
- 20:13Speaker 1: were definitely like, you're not allowed to leave the neighborhood,
- 20:16Speaker 1: and so we challenged what that meant define neighborhood because
- 20:24Speaker 1: if it's.
- 20:25Speaker 2: If this is all the same school district, then it's
- 20:29Speaker 2: still the neighborhood, you know, fifteen blocks over.
- 20:33Speaker 1: It's fine, it's fine, it's fine. I'm assuming that's page Lily, Lily,
- 20:42Speaker 1: that's confusing. Do you have an alter ego? Watch me
- 20:48Speaker 1: just b rate the people that show up to our
- 20:50Speaker 1: show to support I'm like, wait, did Ellen always undershow
- 20:56Speaker 1: be kind to one another? She was cruel, toll al
- 21:00Speaker 1: every guest but Ellen's me. Oh, it's page hype page,
- 21:06Speaker 1: that's page, that's not her name. Page was my professional. Well,
- 21:11Speaker 1: we are okay with that. We are okay with that.
- 21:15Speaker 1: We're okay with whatever. You want to talk to, your
- 21:17Speaker 1: call yourself.
- 21:18Speaker 2: You know what's funny. I've also wrote down Roberta's obsession
- 21:21Speaker 2: with her boobs.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Yes, because here's I thought that Roberta's obsession with her boobs.
- 21:29Speaker 1: If this movie was remain like they're doing a league
- 21:33Speaker 1: of their own, Yeah, wouldn't you believe that adult Roberta
- 21:38Speaker 1: would end up in the queer community.
- 21:41Speaker 2: So I actually thought when grown up Brita Wilson, grown
- 21:45Speaker 2: up Chrissy said, and.
- 21:47Speaker 1: With Roberta's alternative lifestyle, I thought she was going to
- 21:51Speaker 1: refer to her having a female partner, and then she
- 21:54Speaker 1: said living with her partner in sin And that was like,
- 21:57Speaker 1: because everything, it's not a nineties alternative of That was
- 22:00Speaker 1: not a nineties alternative lifestyle. I understood at eleven years
- 22:04Speaker 1: old in nineteen ninety five, that alternative lifestyle meant that
- 22:08Speaker 1: you were living with a same sex partner. Pages with me,
- 22:13Speaker 1: Paige crows up, Roberto would have ended up in the
- 22:16Speaker 1: queer community. Yeah, that's why she was so weird about
- 22:18Speaker 1: her boobs.
- 22:19Speaker 2: And there's no there's not enough kissing because when she
- 22:22Speaker 2: kissed Devin Sawah, she go.
- 22:25Speaker 1: That was great, and she was like, what it was okay?
- 22:28Speaker 1: And I'm like, yeah, excuse me. If I had kissed
- 22:31Speaker 1: Devin Sawah, I would not have said it was okay.
- 22:34Speaker 2: So one hundred percent Roberta is not a fan. Yeah,
- 22:38Speaker 2: and we needed to give her that space, and we needed.
- 22:40Speaker 1: To give her that space, and we needed to give
- 22:43Speaker 1: Rosie o'donald that space in nineteen ninety five. Let these
- 22:46Speaker 1: people live their truth. Yes, do you know what? I
- 22:52Speaker 1: wasn't as uncomfy about as I thought I would be
- 22:54Speaker 1: uncomfy about. And I still found it very huh well,
- 22:58Speaker 1: nothing good. I'm always un about that, but I actually
- 23:04Speaker 1: still found it really endearing that Teeny was the hot one,
- 23:09Speaker 1: and I wrote down I cannot wait to be grown
- 23:13Speaker 1: up Teeny going to my high school reunion being like,
- 23:18Speaker 1: what up hose? I'm famous?
- 23:20Speaker 2: I so you know, when Melanie Griffith is like REBERTA,
- 23:23Speaker 2: how big are your boobs now?
- 23:24Speaker 1: And she's like, how big are yours? And she's like
- 23:26Speaker 1: thirty sixteen worth every penny. I repeated that line so
- 23:32Speaker 1: often and like reenacted that scene so often, and now
- 23:37Speaker 1: I really wish I didn't. I have bigger than that,
- 23:39Speaker 1: and I'm not happy about it. The one for me
- 23:42Speaker 1: is the acceptance speech that she's just practicing. But she's like,
- 23:46Speaker 1: why yes, Joel, You're right. It was a big blackbuster. Yeah,
- 23:51Speaker 1: that's who I am. I do love Thora Birch, like
- 23:55Speaker 1: we should we should do ghost World one day. That's
- 23:58Speaker 1: a great film, ghost World, and it could be uncomfy, yeah,
- 24:03Speaker 1: because they make Thora bird be with that weirdo.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean the summer before the summer when
- 24:11Speaker 2: it came out on O two. Yeah, spring. I don't
- 24:13Speaker 2: whatever the point is. In my senior year, we watched
- 24:16Speaker 2: it all the time, all the time.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I watched it again if it was on TV, I
- 24:20Speaker 1: was like, oh ghost World again. I don't even know
- 24:23Speaker 1: if my parents ever knew that I watched it because
- 24:25Speaker 1: I'm seven ish years younger than you. Right, Oh my god, no,
- 24:30Speaker 1: not that many? Why who am I thinking of then
- 24:33Speaker 1: you're thirty three, right, Yeah, I'm so bad at man.
- 24:36Speaker 1: We were born in the same decade. Thank god. I
- 24:39Speaker 1: am so bad at math. That's why I got your
- 24:41Speaker 1: poll wrong. Oh I love that. I was trying to
- 24:45Speaker 1: do the math and I'm like, I'm this many. Yeah, no,
- 24:51Speaker 1: I you were five years waiting. Yeah you're four.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Because four, but it's closer to five because your birthday's
- 24:59Speaker 2: in December and my birthday in March. Yeah, so we
- 25:01Speaker 2: spend more time being five years apart than we do
- 25:04Speaker 2: being four.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right, you've walked me through that before. I'm
- 25:07Speaker 1: just dumb. It's okay. I have this weird.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Obsession with ages because I look at whenever, like people
- 25:16Speaker 2: from one hundred years ago, when I look at their
- 25:18Speaker 2: death dates, and so then I calculate, okay, so how
- 25:20Speaker 2: much time?
- 25:20Speaker 1: How much more time does that potentially mean? I have?
- 25:23Speaker 1: This person was born in eighteen eighty and they died
- 25:27Speaker 1: in nineteen twenty five.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Helpful guy, Like, I do that shit all the time
- 25:32Speaker 2: in my head.
- 25:33Speaker 1: It's not healthy. No, we're there, it's gonna be okay.
- 25:39Speaker 1: So I can't wait to be like rolling up to
- 25:42Speaker 1: my little Indiana town with my already big boobs and
- 25:46Speaker 1: just being like, hello everyone, it's me that you never
- 25:49Speaker 1: thought you'd see me again. Because I've built a global empire.
- 25:56Speaker 1: We have like I think, like two more years until
- 25:59Speaker 1: my I graduated in two thousand and seven, so you
- 26:03Speaker 1: have five years. We got five years to make that happen. Yeah,
- 26:07Speaker 1: we can make that happen. I think I could tell
- 26:09Speaker 1: my high school anything they wanted't know. I wish I
- 26:12Speaker 1: could my reunion Saturday, my twenty year try telling them anything.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Who's gonna fight you? Let's do a romea Michelle's actually
- 26:23Speaker 1: Carly's gonna be my date. Yes, please wear the Romaia
- 26:28Speaker 1: Michelle's dresses and then do the dance. I gotta figure
- 26:31Speaker 1: out time to go shopping for an outfit because I've
- 26:35Speaker 1: packed my schedule this week like a dumb dumb because
- 26:37Speaker 1: of my sadness of my child being out of town.
- 26:40Speaker 1: So I really and like I had like sat with
- 26:42Speaker 1: myself with it. I was like, Okay, remember they sexualize
- 26:46Speaker 1: a very young thora birch, which means that you also
- 26:49Speaker 1: sexualized a very young thora birch because you were in
- 26:52Speaker 1: love with her, so like be ready for that. But
- 26:58Speaker 1: I felt like it was still like a very twelve
- 27:01Speaker 1: year old's viewpoint of sexy, Like when they're doing the
- 27:04Speaker 1: Cosmo magazine and she's like, I'm a sex spot. Thank god.
- 27:08Speaker 1: I was like I was kind of that kid. Or
- 27:12Speaker 1: when she fills the balloons with uh fudding, because it's
- 27:17Speaker 1: more natural. This is more natural. She's a scientist, she
- 27:21Speaker 1: did trials. She weird, it was wiggily. Those guys gave
- 27:27Speaker 1: me the idea when they threw those bulloons at us,
- 27:31Speaker 1: threw those She's a scientist. She's a sexy scientist. Oh
- 27:35Speaker 1: my gosh, yup, see because they gave us the idea
- 27:40Speaker 1: for that. No, I please please know that I've been
- 27:44Speaker 1: carrying around these nonga nungas since I was twelve. I
- 27:47Speaker 1: never had to stop. I didn't bind like Roberta, but
- 27:53Speaker 1: I also didn't know what to do. I believe I
- 27:55Speaker 1: just walked around like this. I will tell.
- 27:57Speaker 2: You like, no, I mean sorry for shade on my mom.
- 28:02Speaker 2: I probably should have been put in a broad.
- 28:04Speaker 1: At eight years old, probably, and I didn't get one
- 28:09Speaker 1: until oh my god, my cousin got married in nineteen
- 28:14Speaker 1: ninety eight. I was fourteen. Do you remember which is
- 28:18Speaker 1: which was too? I was probably already a bea cup
- 28:20Speaker 1: at that point. Do you remember the first time you
- 28:22Speaker 1: were traumatized about your own breasts? Oh? I was at
- 28:25Speaker 1: the doctor.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Oh, and he lifted up my shirt all the way
- 28:29Speaker 2: to listen to my heartbeat. And my mother was sitting
- 28:32Speaker 2: right there and didn't say anything after that. Sall, I
- 28:35Speaker 2: one hundred percent wore a big.
- 28:37Speaker 1: Ass shirt to the doctor.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Lo and behold, turns out that's not how they listened
- 28:41Speaker 2: to your fucking heartbeat at all. And like it was
- 28:46Speaker 2: so like that memory is seared into my head. If
- 28:50Speaker 2: I think about it too hard, it makes me very uncomfortable.
- 28:52Speaker 2: And it's that coupled with not wearing a bra until
- 28:55Speaker 2: I was probably thirteen or fourteen years It had to
- 28:58Speaker 2: have been fourteen, because we were in Montana looking at
- 28:59Speaker 2: bra I think maybe we were in Montana maybe when
- 29:02Speaker 2: we came back.
- 29:03Speaker 1: The bottom line.
- 29:04Speaker 2: The point is is this is why, like I have
- 29:06Speaker 2: friends who will wear these beautiful lacey bras, but there's
- 29:09Speaker 2: just like a thin layer of lace, and that makes
- 29:12Speaker 2: me very uncomfortable because that means that you could still
- 29:15Speaker 2: see if I'm cold, or potentially see through it even
- 29:19Speaker 2: through my shirt.
- 29:20Speaker 1: So I need a nice thick layer of material between
- 29:26Speaker 1: my shirt and my boob. So we'll get their page
- 29:29Speaker 1: about the trauma finding stretch marks for the first time,
- 29:32Speaker 1: I honestly wish I knew. I wish I had clocked it.
- 29:35Speaker 1: But the first time that I was traumatized about my
- 29:38Speaker 1: own breast is. We used to have a friend who,
- 29:42Speaker 1: because of some family situations, spent a lot of Monday
- 29:45Speaker 1: nights at our house and we would watch De Grassy, which,
- 29:49Speaker 1: if you're ready to get comfy about De Grassy, you
- 29:52Speaker 1: just let me know. You just let me know with Drake,
- 29:56Speaker 1: Right with Drake, Drake makes me uncomfy. He mixed. Okay,
- 30:01Speaker 1: well we don't need to claim them. But team also
- 30:04Speaker 1: grooming Millie Bobby Brown, So if anyone would like to
- 30:07Speaker 1: direct her this way so I could like have an
- 30:10Speaker 1: honest heart to heart with her, please. I was having
- 30:14Speaker 1: a conversation with somebody about persuasion and how I was
- 30:18Speaker 1: disappointed with Dakota Johnson.
- 30:19Speaker 2: There's your Melanie Griffith connection portrayal because her British accent,
- 30:26Speaker 2: and so someone's like, who what other young twenty something
- 30:29Speaker 2: actress could do it? Millie Bobby Brown, And I was like, Babe,
- 30:32Speaker 2: that child is the same age as my child.
- 30:34Speaker 1: She'd just been sexualized. Yeah, she just got Kim Kwiggs
- 30:40Speaker 1: and they make her post weirdly in magazines. Yeah, where
- 30:46Speaker 1: was I going? Oh? So he would come over. He
- 30:49Speaker 1: would spend the night on Mondays and my mom would
- 30:51Speaker 1: get him ready for school on Tuesdays. It was like
- 30:53Speaker 1: a thing. It happened every week. Whatever. I came down
- 30:57Speaker 1: wearing roughly shorts for pj's. It was a Winnie the
- 31:02Speaker 1: Pooh PJ set and then it had like a tank
- 31:06Speaker 1: top with it, like it was a pajama set. Yeah,
- 31:09Speaker 1: And I thought I was doing the responsible thing because
- 31:11Speaker 1: I matched my tops to my bottoms and I usually
- 31:14Speaker 1: don't do that. That's what you do. That's why the
- 31:16Speaker 1: set exists. Met Like I went the extra mile because
- 31:20Speaker 1: we had company and I matched my tops to my bottoms.
- 31:24Speaker 2: I have a story for you about pajamas offline that
- 31:27Speaker 2: I can't share publicly.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Wonderful. And I thought that like I had completed the assignment. Well,
- 31:32Speaker 1: I had freed the nunga nungas because they had been
- 31:35Speaker 1: trapped all day. I mean, it's the best feeling in
- 31:37Speaker 1: the world. And I walked downstairs and my mom grabbed
- 31:41Speaker 1: my arm and yanked me and I went white, put
- 31:46Speaker 1: them back, and she went, he's over. It's Monday night,
- 31:51Speaker 1: and I went, I mean, this was a kid that
- 31:54Speaker 1: I had like grown up with from the time that
- 31:56Speaker 1: I was in fourth grade until whatever year this is ye,
- 32:00Speaker 1: And I'm like, I mean, he's like my sister and
- 32:03Speaker 1: I were too lazy to walk our asses all the
- 32:06Speaker 1: way to our house after the summer school that my
- 32:08Speaker 1: mom forced us to be in so she didn't have
- 32:10Speaker 1: to look at us, And so we would stop at
- 32:12Speaker 1: his house watch Labyrinth and Logan's Run, and then be
- 32:17Speaker 1: in his school all day. Sometimes we had swimsuits, sometimes
- 32:19Speaker 1: we jumped in in our t shirts. Like he had
- 32:22Speaker 1: seen me in every iteration of myself. But that day
- 32:26Speaker 1: my mom clocked how big my boobs were and she went, Eh,
- 32:31Speaker 1: he can't be looking. He can't see you like that. Yeah,
- 32:34Speaker 1: And then it was like, and that's for when your
- 32:35Speaker 1: uncles come over, when you're staying the night with your
- 32:39Speaker 1: cousins at your aunt's house, any of it. I also remember,
- 32:44Speaker 1: have you ever been told by an uncle that they
- 32:46Speaker 1: won't hug you anymore? No, All of my family lives
- 32:51Speaker 1: long distance, so we didn't grow up with the uncles.
- 32:53Speaker 1: We only grew up with aunties. So my uncles also
- 32:56Speaker 1: live long distance, but we you know, visited. Yeah. I
- 33:00Speaker 1: went in for the hug with my dad's brother and
- 33:03Speaker 1: he literally like ghosted away from me. And I'm like,
- 33:08Speaker 1: and he went, uncles don't hug. Now every uncle on
- 33:12Speaker 1: my mom's goddamn side of the family. Like you could
- 33:16Speaker 1: like literally be lifted off the ground with the veracity
- 33:20Speaker 1: that people want to hug over on that side of
- 33:22Speaker 1: that family. Yeah, that's interesting. I just saw my uncle
- 33:25Speaker 1: a month ago and he hugged me. Nope, it's a
- 33:29Speaker 1: uncles don't hug. And it was because I was a
- 33:32Speaker 1: teenager and I had tits, I know it. Huh. So
- 33:36Speaker 1: I get where Roberta is coming from, Like you get
- 33:39Speaker 1: your tits in and she's in a house full of
- 33:41Speaker 1: boys who rough house. You know, there's no there's no
- 33:45Speaker 1: other influence other than this sort of like I mean,
- 33:48Speaker 1: we see them fucking fighting in front of her, rolling
- 33:51Speaker 1: around on the ground in front of her door. The
- 33:52Speaker 1: fact that she had as good of a bra on
- 33:55Speaker 1: as she did for the seventies. Yeah, with the dad
- 33:59Speaker 1: buying for her shocked and aunt probably had to come
- 34:04Speaker 1: into day and you know that tape her when she
- 34:06Speaker 1: took it off because it was on her back. Yeah,
- 34:10Speaker 1: Christina Ricci, we weren't thinking. Oh no. And I will
- 34:16Speaker 1: say that I think this movie did sort of help
- 34:19Speaker 1: me understand that I could tape my boobs if I
- 34:22Speaker 1: wanted to. Yeah, but I don't want to. It seems
- 34:27Speaker 1: very painful, and like.
- 34:29Speaker 2: That's why I'm so glad that they make the high
- 34:31Speaker 2: intensity on sports spras now right due.
- 34:34Speaker 1: To the casual groping of the late nineties early two thousands,
- 34:40Speaker 1: when I had the luxury of going to middle school.
- 34:43Speaker 1: In high school, my boobs and I had kind of
- 34:48Speaker 1: like a detached relationship where men would grope me in
- 34:54Speaker 1: the lunchline and I'd go, that's fine because they're just
- 34:58Speaker 1: like right there, what are they not. They're not just
- 35:01Speaker 1: gonna like bump their entire hand into it, cup it
- 35:04Speaker 1: a little. So that makes you uncomfortable because that also
- 35:10Speaker 1: happens to me, and I have a large posterior. Yeah. Yeah,
- 35:16Speaker 1: casual grouping of the nineties early two thousand's, okay, go
- 35:21Speaker 1: for it. Oh, I know, you said, I said, yeah. Uh. Also,
- 35:30Speaker 1: because I have no concept of time, and you know this. Yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 1: I thought Bonnie Hunt and Christina Ricci were the same age.
- 35:38Speaker 1: So when Bonnie Hunt showed up as thora Birch's mom,
- 35:41Speaker 1: I was like, oh, that's right. I thought Christie's mom
- 35:44Speaker 1: as Chrissie's mom. Yeah, which I love that scene. A
- 35:48Speaker 1: garden like you have to you have to have a
- 35:50Speaker 1: hose to water a small hosts will work too. Yeah.
- 35:58Speaker 1: And then Chrissy goes with her with your trash mouth friends.
- 36:03Speaker 1: I love that line. You. No, I didn't think i'd
- 36:05Speaker 1: have to have this talk with you, but because your
- 36:07Speaker 1: friends are trash mouths. Huh oh yeah. The side hug.
- 36:14Speaker 1: M hm. Back to the hug thing.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Mario's comment, we the church I went to, which will
- 36:17Speaker 2: not be named, we called it the church's name side hug.
- 36:21Speaker 2: And then people that I knew in adulthood from that
- 36:23Speaker 2: church who left religion that we still refer to it.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Shall we give each other a blah blah blah side hug?
- 36:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, anyway, yeah, the watering can, the watering can.
- 36:36Speaker 1: And then when they're later at that hangout spot or whatever,
- 36:40Speaker 1: and Chrissy's like, no, I don't want to get pregnant,
- 36:42Speaker 1: and I don't want to get pregnant. I'm like Chrissy
- 36:45Speaker 1: at pregnant. The fact that Chrissy is the first one
- 36:48Speaker 1: to get pregnant blows my mind, and probably the only
- 36:51Speaker 1: one to get pregnant. And really, you know that child
- 36:53Speaker 1: is twenty. You don't know how this child is because
- 36:56Speaker 1: you don't have no concept of time. Yeah, but the
- 36:59Speaker 1: if it was October of twenty twenty, excuse me, October
- 37:04Speaker 1: of nineteen ninety five. Yeah, this child will be twenty
- 37:07Speaker 1: seven this year. Wow, how does that feel? I didn't
- 37:15Speaker 1: need that number, so I don't have a life, So
- 37:19Speaker 1: this is what I do. But I love that scene
- 37:22Speaker 1: because it takes me back to how my mother chose
- 37:25Speaker 1: to tell me about sex. And it was through a
- 37:29Speaker 1: giant pile of Liveral Spencer romance novels, and she said
- 37:33Speaker 1: something along the lines of your grandmother and I love
- 37:37Speaker 1: this author. So it was like a generational tradition or something.
- 37:43Speaker 1: And they're soft, like I remember her saying them, something
- 37:46Speaker 1: like this sex is soft and kind or something, so
- 37:48Speaker 1: like here you go, oh my god, this is what
- 37:53Speaker 1: sex should be. I I learned about it in freshman
- 38:01Speaker 1: health class. I had an idea because of pop culture,
- 38:04Speaker 1: but no one sat me down and had a conversation
- 38:06Speaker 1: until we had health my freshman year. I'm sure I
- 38:10Speaker 1: also eventually had a health class. God knows. So I
- 38:13Speaker 1: grew up in Indiana. Yeah, so I a health class
- 38:16Speaker 1: versus Indiana. So I think the only way to get
- 38:21Speaker 1: true birth control talk in Indiana was if you took
- 38:24Speaker 1: the child development class where they like gave you the
- 38:27Speaker 1: robot baby. Oh interesting, Yeah, because making me take care
- 38:32Speaker 1: of a baby for the weekend is going to be
- 38:34Speaker 1: birth control. No, but then she would at least go
- 38:37Speaker 1: into like condoms and other forms of contraceptions. But in
- 38:40Speaker 1: regular health class, Hell no, I didn't get out of
- 38:44Speaker 1: banana and was like, this is how I did. Right,
- 38:50Speaker 1: we had I had the health teacher that everyone was
- 38:53Speaker 1: like this health like all the students were like this
- 38:55Speaker 1: health teacher is good because she'll answer every question, she'll
- 38:58Speaker 1: tell you the truth. Da da da.
- 39:00Speaker 2: And then when she ran for city council in the
- 39:02Speaker 2: city where she lived, like the conservatives lost their shit.
- 39:06Speaker 2: She don't she shouldn't be all this stuff, And I
- 39:09Speaker 2: was like, I don't have to see anything wrong with her.
- 39:10Speaker 2: She was a great health teacher. Like I didn't yeah,
- 39:14Speaker 2: Like I didn't have sex in high school, so she
- 39:16Speaker 2: did a good job.
- 39:17Speaker 1: I also didn't have sex in high school. I think
- 39:20Speaker 1: it's because of my perm. To be honest, I think
- 39:24Speaker 1: it's because I was unattractive in high school. I mean,
- 39:26Speaker 1: let's be honest. But my friend was at the county
- 39:30Speaker 1: Fair today and she was like clocking a lot of
- 39:32Speaker 1: men that we went to high school with, and I
- 39:34Speaker 1: was like, tell them they could have had their chance,
- 39:36Speaker 1: and now I'm hot and famous, so their loss. We
- 39:41Speaker 1: had to take care of a bag of flower You
- 39:42Speaker 1: no robot baby, it was a literal robot baby. And
- 39:47Speaker 1: maybe not live on the internet. I will tell you
- 39:50Speaker 1: about the racism that I went through because of the
- 39:53Speaker 1: race of the baby that I got that morning. Yeah,
- 39:59Speaker 1: the just an Indiana be racist. So yeah, so sex
- 40:08Speaker 1: said was done through sex novels. And my friend Stephanie,
- 40:12Speaker 1: who's at the county Fair right now, maybe with her kids,
- 40:15Speaker 1: she used to go. She's like, no, wonder you think
- 40:18Speaker 1: men should be like nice to you and put in
- 40:20Speaker 1: effort and like give you an orgasm every time. That's
- 40:24Speaker 1: how your mom told you to that sex would be.
- 40:27Speaker 1: It would be in a field and flowery flowers and
- 40:32Speaker 1: you would have been brought in from the to the
- 40:36Speaker 1: wild wild West to teach a room full of students,
- 40:39Speaker 1: and the guy that fixed the fiery stove would light
- 40:42Speaker 1: a fire in your pants. No, you know, I feel
- 40:46Speaker 1: like it's what should happen? What should happen? Yeah? I
- 40:53Speaker 1: do feel like there was something to it, like, yeah,
- 40:58Speaker 1: I still didn't have men who were nice to me
- 41:01Speaker 1: while we were having suck.
- 41:03Speaker 2: So can we talk about Sam's mom dating for a second. Yes,
- 41:10Speaker 2: for small the cameos in this movie are great.
- 41:12Speaker 1: All the cameos are great. Do you want to know
- 41:14Speaker 1: my note for Sam's mom and the divorce? Yeah? I
- 41:18Speaker 1: wrote down and as you know, like Sam, I too
- 41:22Speaker 1: have a hot mom who loves to do hot mom shit.
- 41:27Speaker 1: My mom loves hot girl shit to the point where
- 41:29Speaker 1: like she tried to be mad at me when I
- 41:32Speaker 1: told her that her new puppy was going to ruin
- 41:34Speaker 1: her hot girl shit and her hot girl summer, and
- 41:37Speaker 1: she's like, what is hot girl shit? I was like,
- 41:40Speaker 1: it's literally the way that you live your life. And
- 41:42Speaker 1: she's like, was it even mean? Though? Like what is that? Me?
- 41:46Speaker 1: I goes hot girl shit? You do hot girl shit
- 41:49Speaker 1: because we hot girls. I go me going to silent disco.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Hot girl shit, you like picking up dog shit because
- 41:57Speaker 1: you took your dog to the coffee place, not hot
- 41:59Speaker 1: girl shit. Like those are how girls shit girl shit
- 42:02Speaker 1: at all? No I one, I was like, Okay, Samantha,
- 42:08Speaker 1: we get you're upset. You're twelve. This is a big deal.
- 42:11Speaker 1: It's the seventies. Nobody understands, you know, divorced at this point, right,
- 42:18Speaker 1: But as an adult watching it, knowing what we know
- 42:21Speaker 1: about the seventies, I love. I love that I'm in
- 42:26Speaker 1: charge of the CNNA and roll today, and I love
- 42:30Speaker 1: that on your episode you use them to make fun
- 42:33Speaker 1: of me, and on my episode, I'm also using them
- 42:36Speaker 1: to make fun of me. I've made fun of you
- 42:39Speaker 1: once because you didn't watch Pretty Little Liars, and I
- 42:41Speaker 1: find that ridiculous story. Please don't be my friend. But
- 42:46Speaker 1: as an adult who solo parrot, it was like this
- 42:52Speaker 1: moment of like, she has to be in a relationship
- 42:55Speaker 1: to survive. It's the seventies, so she can't get a
- 42:58Speaker 1: bank account without a husband. She can't. She literally can't
- 43:03Speaker 1: do anything but be domesticated, especially in a neighborhood called
- 43:07Speaker 1: the gas Light addition, especially in a city like it's
- 43:11Speaker 1: in a state like Indiana, like she has to be
- 43:15Speaker 1: attached and it so had to put her go go
- 43:18Speaker 1: boots on, and she had a go go go find
- 43:21Speaker 1: herself another man.
- 43:22Speaker 2: In Hyaria, which I don't know if that was a
- 43:25Speaker 2: good choice. But the point is is that, you know,
- 43:28Speaker 2: there's this there's.
- 43:29Speaker 1: This this thing that movies do when they are period
- 43:36Speaker 1: pieces like Now and Then, is where there's such criticism
- 43:39Speaker 1: through the child's eyes about this next step mom is making,
- 43:44Speaker 1: but there's no context for like the actual reason. So
- 43:47Speaker 1: in a way, while it's obviously the movies through twelve
- 43:51Speaker 1: year old eyes, but we never get a resolution or
- 43:55Speaker 1: we never get any sort of explanation later that sort
- 43:57Speaker 1: of like shows that Sam maybe later understood like because
- 44:03Speaker 1: she wasn't aware of like the disparities that existed for
- 44:06Speaker 1: women because she's a child, you know, So there's so
- 44:09Speaker 1: it's sort of kind of re perpetuating the fact that
- 44:13Speaker 1: her mom is just a hoe trying to be a hoe.
- 44:16Speaker 1: When she put on her go go boots and she
- 44:18Speaker 1: was like hot girl summer, Hot girl summer, because Nancy
- 44:21Speaker 1: Sinatra said, so they were all having hot girl summer.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Those girls rode their bikes and met a grifter and
- 44:29Speaker 1: stole boys under plants. Yeah, Brendan Fraser was hot. Okay,
- 44:33Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say it is. There's no present tense.
- 44:36Speaker 1: There not everyone ages, Okay, it's genes. Well, and I
- 44:41Speaker 1: know that Brendan Fraser was bullied by Hollywood, so that
- 44:46Speaker 1: might have gone into it. Yeah, I mean him on
- 44:49Speaker 1: TikTok cry because the fan was nice to him. Would
- 44:53Speaker 1: be nice to him because I just love personality. Oh,
- 44:56Speaker 1: that's a bad color for me. Favorite Brendan Fraser movie
- 44:59Speaker 1: and Sino Man. Oh, mine is George of the Jungle
- 45:07Speaker 1: and we could do it on this show. Have you
- 45:14Speaker 1: please tell me you've seen in Sino Man. I don't
- 45:16Speaker 1: think I've seen in Cino man. I've seen all of
- 45:18Speaker 1: the Mummy movies. And that is my sexuality. Natalie. The
- 45:22Speaker 1: minute my kid was old enough, I sat him down
- 45:25Speaker 1: and was like, you need to see this movie? What?
- 45:29Speaker 1: And I wasn't embarrassed. I'm good, I'm glad. Oh I'm
- 45:35Speaker 1: gonna say it live on air, so both of us
- 45:37Speaker 1: clock it. I do think that we should take the
- 45:40Speaker 1: single mom episode that we were going to do on
- 45:42Speaker 1: my show and make a two parter on your show,
- 45:45Speaker 1: and we talk about single moms and childless women and media. Yeah.
- 45:49Speaker 1: I actually think that's a great idea. I've got a
- 45:51Speaker 1: lot of smart Yeah, very smart. We make a good team.
- 45:56Speaker 1: I'm a genius. My high school reunion, it's gonna be
- 46:02Speaker 1: so jealous. Damn it. How can I make my high
- 46:06Speaker 1: school reunion jealous? I got four days? You know? Yeah?
- 46:12Speaker 1: Let me ask the audience in a pool. Can you
- 46:15Speaker 1: do a pool? I've been doing them in the scrollers
- 46:18Speaker 1: to try and get comments. I am I should What
- 46:24Speaker 1: should I wear? It's supposed to be ninety degrees? Will
- 46:27Speaker 1: the laches be there? Little esther which Jeremy Runner went
- 46:33Speaker 1: to my high school. I mean.
- 46:36Speaker 2: He graduated like ten years before I did. And so
- 46:38Speaker 2: did Timothy Oliphant. He he went to my high school,
- 46:41Speaker 2: but again also graduated.
- 46:42Speaker 1: I have a thing for Timothy.
- 46:45Speaker 2: I was just spotted in Modesto because his folks still
- 46:48Speaker 2: live here, so he was in town visiting. He went
- 46:50Speaker 2: to his twenty year high school reunion, a giant thing.
- 46:53Speaker 1: And it's all because of dead Wood. It's all because
- 46:56Speaker 1: of their reunion. That's embarrassing. You spelled reunion room And
- 47:08Speaker 1: thank god there was a red line. You've already put
- 47:10Speaker 1: it on the scroller. You know. Live's hard. Also, so
- 47:18Speaker 1: I'm watching Sam and Sam's mom go through a divorce
- 47:21Speaker 1: and immediately want to start doing hot girl shit. And
- 47:24Speaker 1: I was like, you know, the movie takes place in
- 47:27Speaker 1: the seventies. I was keeping the movie takes place in
- 47:33Speaker 1: the seventies. I was alive in the nineties. We weren't
- 47:36Speaker 1: that much better in Indiana about divorce really, mm hmm.
- 47:40Speaker 1: I remember I remember there being like appointed comment about
- 47:46Speaker 1: my friend whose parents were divorced and they rented their
- 47:51Speaker 1: house in our neighborhood. They did not own the house
- 47:55Speaker 1: in our neighborhood. I remember appointed.
- 47:58Speaker 2: That's still a thing, I think, being a rent like,
- 48:01Speaker 2: but now everyone's a renter because millennials, younger millennials and
- 48:05Speaker 2: gen Z can't afford.
- 48:06Speaker 1: To buy, right. So I was thinking about it and
- 48:11Speaker 1: I was like, you know, what, are we even today
- 48:15Speaker 1: better about divorce in the more Midwestern states? I go,
- 48:19Speaker 1: because everyone wanted to turn on John Mulaney when he
- 48:22Speaker 1: got divorced, like we're so weird about divorce. I'm gonna
- 48:25Speaker 1: start congratulating people on their divorce. When you told me.
- 48:29Speaker 2: I feel like when someone tells me that they're getting
- 48:31Speaker 2: a divorce, I gauge it first, like are we happy?
- 48:34Speaker 2: And if they say yes, and I say congratulations, I'm
- 48:37Speaker 2: proud of you for finally getting out.
- 48:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna say something along the lines.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Also, I'm probably the friend who already told you that
- 48:43Speaker 2: you probably should have gotten a divorce, because I'm very
- 48:45Speaker 2: vocal about whether or not I think that a relationship
- 48:48Speaker 2: is bad for somebody.
- 48:49Speaker 1: Right, I'm probably going to tell you something along the
- 48:52Speaker 1: lines I'm so happy that you're getting yourself out of
- 48:56Speaker 1: a situation that clearly wasn't the right one. Yeah. Yeah.
- 49:01Speaker 2: And also if and when before you get married and
- 49:05Speaker 2: you need to know whether or not it's gonna last,
- 49:08Speaker 2: just call me, because I've accurately predicted all of the
- 49:12Speaker 2: divorces to the year so far in adulthood.
- 49:18Speaker 1: Another not that I'm proud. I'm not bragging another tie
- 49:23Speaker 1: into our one Tree Hill shows that we do on Tuesday.
- 49:26Speaker 1: Girls with dead moms always want to be toying with death. Yeah, Roberta,
- 49:32Speaker 1: what did she do?
- 49:33Speaker 2: She jumped off out of the tree and dove into
- 49:35Speaker 2: a shallow body of water.
- 49:37Speaker 1: And then she just pretended to be dead man floating.
- 49:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't think I understood how morbid
- 49:45Speaker 2: that was until later in life.
- 49:47Speaker 1: And good I'm Chrissie for immediately calling her on it,
- 49:50Speaker 1: because everyone was kind of tiptoeing around the fact that, like,
- 49:53Speaker 1: Roberta does weird shit because her mom's dead, And then
- 49:57Speaker 1: Chrissie was like, hey, people actually care about you. Can
- 50:00Speaker 1: you not pretend to be dead? Yeah?
- 50:03Speaker 2: Yeah, from the jump, the movie does a really good
- 50:05Speaker 2: job at letting you know that Chrissy and Roberta are
- 50:09Speaker 2: the pair that stays in are like solid friendship and
- 50:13Speaker 2: probably would have you know what I mean, like yeah,
- 50:15Speaker 2: and that Teeny and Sam were the two who felt
- 50:19Speaker 2: boxed in when We're gonna leave, Like it was clear
- 50:22Speaker 2: from even before we saw Teeny do her you know,
- 50:25Speaker 2: acceptance speech in speech.
- 50:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Do you recall recent movies that are as honest
- 50:35Speaker 1: about like Girlhood as this movie is. I feel like
- 50:39Speaker 1: this is very true to Girlhood. It's a very innocent
- 50:43Speaker 1: look frozen for you now that you're oh, that's left
- 50:50Speaker 1: band of Gold, I don't know, I'm fampa. Well, it's
- 50:56Speaker 1: like I said earlier, like the nineties were kind of
- 50:58Speaker 1: a magical time because is you have a plot, you
- 51:02Speaker 1: stick with the plot throughout the whole movie. There's no
- 51:05Speaker 1: super duper like we're going this way and then coming
- 51:09Speaker 1: back like it's it's a commitment to the plot. And
- 51:12Speaker 1: then the nineties were so fem forward to degree that
- 51:16Speaker 1: I'm just like, there's no way any I mean there
- 51:19Speaker 1: is because people of my generation are shitty, but people
- 51:22Speaker 1: who were obsessed with pop culture, like, we didn't come
- 51:25Speaker 1: out unscathed from the Hey, maybe we should have equity
- 51:29Speaker 1: because I'm valuable, bitch. Like that's the overwhelming message from
- 51:32Speaker 1: a lot of these films from the nineties that were
- 51:35Speaker 1: geared towards female audiences. And it's also the young and
- 51:39Speaker 1: old gun animal. And it's also there was an idea
- 51:44Speaker 1: throughout all nineties fem forward movies that at the end
- 51:49Speaker 1: of the day, it was going to be your girlfriends
- 51:50Speaker 1: that got you through. Who cares if you kissed Devin Sawa, right.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Which I love when she said, please don't tell anybody,
- 51:57Speaker 2: because not because she she's embarrassed, because she doesn't want anybody.
- 52:01Speaker 1: To know, right, because that's embarrassing to be kissing. Nineties
- 52:06Speaker 1: heart throbbed Devin Sawah and get married now, so that
- 52:12Speaker 1: would be inappropriate. There's there's very little times that I
- 52:16Speaker 1: watch television or movies and I go there it is.
- 52:20Speaker 1: That is how you depict these middle ages. Before you're
- 52:24Speaker 1: a teenager and before you're in after you're like a
- 52:27Speaker 1: child child, and never have I am or as one
- 52:31Speaker 1: of them. I think that that show does a brilliant
- 52:34Speaker 1: job of making sure that there are steaks, but they're
- 52:37Speaker 1: not stakes that like a thirteen year old would never have,
- 52:41Speaker 1: right Degrassi all over the place.
- 52:44Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you know it's interesting too when I think
- 52:48Speaker 2: about because I was eleven, so this was I was
- 52:50Speaker 2: clearly the audience for this movie, and I clearly related
- 52:54Speaker 2: to it, the riding the bikes and just being free
- 52:57Speaker 2: in the neighborhood. And then when I was thinking about
- 52:59Speaker 2: it a little but deeper too, like this is truly
- 53:02Speaker 2: a coming of age narrative. A lot of times we
- 53:06Speaker 2: think of coming of age is like, oh, you know,
- 53:08Speaker 2: you're going from ten years to adulthood. But really what
- 53:11Speaker 2: coming of age is is when you have a transition
- 53:13Speaker 2: in life, when something in your life is changing and
- 53:17Speaker 2: you are changing and growing from that. But it's been
- 53:20Speaker 2: co opted to be the stories about like I'm graduating
- 53:24Speaker 2: high school and what the fuck next kind of show
- 53:27Speaker 2: and now and then really does encapsulate as you're saying
- 53:30Speaker 2: that transition of hey, where, cause you can kind of
- 53:35Speaker 2: tell that after this summer, the four girls are still close,
- 53:39Speaker 2: but they're kind of these two are going this way
- 53:42Speaker 2: and these two are going this way.
- 53:43Speaker 1: But you know what, I'm glad that you brought that
- 53:46Speaker 1: point because when Demi Moore does that last monologue about
- 53:48Speaker 1: that summer kind of being the summer that fractured them,
- 53:51Speaker 1: I go, I must have never paid attention to that
- 53:54Speaker 1: line before, because I'm like, no, this is the summer
- 53:58Speaker 1: where you all kind of figured it out, Like you
- 54:02Speaker 1: figured out that you're all for really fucking different. But
- 54:06Speaker 1: there's a lot of love there, and like Sam and
- 54:08Speaker 1: Teeney figured out that the old guy on the bike
- 54:12Speaker 1: wasn't scary. How innocent though when that old man it
- 54:17Speaker 1: almost made me cry when that old man goes, why
- 54:19Speaker 1: are you afraid of me? And Julia walks in with
- 54:23Speaker 1: Chris Evans. That's how she makes everyone jealous. Yes, send
- 54:27Speaker 1: him the DM what are you doing? He might have
- 54:30Speaker 1: a free weekend. Sometimes celebrities do that just for the bit.
- 54:35Speaker 1: He's hyper focused on finding a wife, he told us all,
- 54:42Speaker 1: and I don't that's on him shout of marriage. So
- 54:45Speaker 1: it's not gonna be a great that's on him. He
- 54:48Speaker 1: told us that. And now we be bold.
- 54:52Speaker 2: Send you should send him a d hot enough for
- 54:55Speaker 2: the celebrities to respond to and dms.
- 54:58Speaker 1: I'm learned. I'm learning that, which is real irritating him.
- 55:02Speaker 1: I hot enough. I don't understand. Huh, I have celebrities
- 55:09Speaker 1: respond to me? Have you Bennett from the batcherette, the
- 55:13Speaker 1: most white privileged one of them? All? Okay, like not
- 55:19Speaker 1: to not to like scale it to know. I do
- 55:25Speaker 1: love that for you, though I will remain jealousy so
- 55:29Speaker 1: lame for Tom Hillmilson to commit to taking me back
- 55:32Speaker 1: to my correct timeline. And he's busy trying to have
- 55:35Speaker 1: a baby. I told him he could bring that baby
- 55:38Speaker 1: what that baby doesn't need? I think that I don't
- 55:41Speaker 1: want Tom Hiddleston for his dick. I want him to
- 55:44Speaker 1: take me to a timeline that I have rights. You
- 55:49Speaker 1: can get a credit card without a man, I can't.
- 55:52Speaker 1: It's not nineteen seventy nine, but I really thought you
- 55:56Speaker 1: could get a home loan without a ham I could
- 56:00Speaker 1: I have one. I really thought that, Like when Demi
- 56:05Speaker 1: I was like, that's a really cold and callous way
- 56:07Speaker 1: to some some up that summer, and I'm like, and
- 56:10Speaker 1: I get it. It's Demi Moore. She's chained smoking, she
- 56:12Speaker 1: don't want to be there. You know. I didn't see
- 56:15Speaker 1: it as cold and callous. I thought I saw it
- 56:17Speaker 1: as an awareness that that summer changed them so much
- 56:23Speaker 1: that like, even though they made this pact and we'll
- 56:25Speaker 1: show up for each other, they still understand that like
- 56:29Speaker 1: they're growing apart, which is actually kind of beautiful because
- 56:32Speaker 1: how many times do you grow apart from people and
- 56:35Speaker 1: it hurts but you don't recognize that you're growing apart
- 56:37Speaker 1: and you're fighting to keep it together and it ends
- 56:39Speaker 1: up being more pain and sorrow and hurt than it
- 56:43Speaker 1: needs to be. And it's very clear that they're all
- 56:46Speaker 1: still a part of each other's lives in the way
- 56:49Speaker 1: that they can show up right right.
- 56:52Speaker 2: I think, Cause if I was a big, old fucking celebrity,
- 56:55Speaker 2: like yeah, Melanie grit well that you know what, I
- 56:59Speaker 2: probably still text Abby and Stacy every day like I
- 57:01Speaker 2: do my two best friends from hig school.
- 57:04Speaker 1: Literally, Stepany told me while she was at the county
- 57:07Speaker 1: fair today that I will be so lucky when I'm
- 57:09Speaker 1: famous because she will still let me know about all
- 57:12Speaker 1: of the shit that's going on in our shitty county.
- 57:15Speaker 1: I'll be all like, I mean, I'll put you on
- 57:16Speaker 1: payroll for that, because I would love to know. This
- 57:19Speaker 1: is why I need to move, because I'm the friend
- 57:21Speaker 1: who's texting all of the people who left. Yeah, oh
- 57:24Speaker 1: my god.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Here's But what's so funny though, Carly's sister is coming
- 57:28Speaker 2: with us because she and I graduated the same year.
- 57:31Speaker 2: She was texting me, She's like, I've convinced this.
- 57:33Speaker 1: Person to go, and this person to go, and this
- 57:35Speaker 1: person to go. And so backstory, I make fun of Stay.
- 57:37Speaker 1: I tease Stacy because she doesn't remember anybody we went
- 57:40Speaker 1: to high school with. So then when Becka's telling me
- 57:42Speaker 1: about all these people who are going to be there,
- 57:43Speaker 1: I'm like, I literally know who none of those people are.
- 57:46Speaker 1: And these people are here.
- 57:49Speaker 2: I was proud of myself for keeping everyone in the
- 57:51Speaker 2: loop about the gossip, and now I'm like, I don't
- 57:54Speaker 2: know who these people are gonna be great.
- 57:58Speaker 1: Maybe she might make professionally done. What's the old man's
- 58:01Speaker 1: name is? It crazy Pete. Yeah, crazy Pete. When Crazy
- 58:04Speaker 1: Pete just asks them in a rainstorm after he's fucking
- 58:07Speaker 1: saved Sam and whose bracelet was that? Was that Teeni's
- 58:10Speaker 1: or was it Sam's? It was Teeny's necklace that she
- 58:13Speaker 1: broke into bracelets for the two of them, for the
- 58:15Speaker 1: two of them, and she's like, no, Teeny, let that bracelet,
- 58:19Speaker 1: don't And like that to me was like, oh my god,
- 58:22Speaker 1: that's such a huge thing for teenage, for tween, which
- 58:26Speaker 1: wasn't a word in ninety five girls to do was
- 58:29Speaker 1: to like share your beloved something with your friend. Like
- 58:33Speaker 1: that's a huge gesture. Yeah. And so when Crazy Pete
- 58:38Speaker 1: saves them and he just like looks off into the
- 58:42Speaker 1: rainstorm and he goes, why are you afraid of me?
- 58:46Speaker 1: And like that's a very honest moment. Yeah, then I
- 58:50Speaker 1: don't think we get very much anymore around from our eccentrics.
- 58:55Speaker 1: And then Teeny also has like a very appropriate, like
- 59:00Speaker 1: twelve year old response to that, and she goes, you know,
- 59:03Speaker 1: you only come out at night and it's kind of scary,
- 59:07Speaker 1: and I'm like and then empathy grew and if you
- 59:11Speaker 1: were on our Live last night with One Tree Hill
- 59:13Speaker 1: on Instagram, you would know that I've decided that empathy
- 59:17Speaker 1: is actually the solution. Yeah, maybe he murdered his wife
- 59:22Speaker 1: and kid. I don't know. I think I don't think.
- 59:25Speaker 1: I don't think he did. I think he lives having
- 59:28Speaker 1: been a drunk at the bar.
- 59:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think he lives with that guilt. Survivor's guilt's
- 59:33Speaker 2: already hard. But then survivor's guilt coupled with you probably
- 59:37Speaker 2: wore a drunken husband who couldn't already provide for your family.
- 59:41Speaker 1: Yeah, and then now this like an ultimate I forgot
- 59:46Speaker 1: how much I actually loved the crazy Pet storyline. Well,
- 59:50Speaker 1: for one thing, I wore my let's have a seance
- 59:52Speaker 1: shirt yesterday because I thought we would be doing now
- 59:55Speaker 1: and then, and I was like, I love seances where
- 59:58Speaker 1: they had multiple siances. They had multiple seances, And I
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: was like, how am I both teeny and Sam? You know?
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: For wait, does that that can't make me Roberta and
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: Chrissy because I'm not at all, But I will say,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: considering how many times they had a seiance and the
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: fact that I grew up in a conservative Christian home,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: I was just gonna say that I'm surprised my parents
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: let me watch this. They probably didn't understand what was happening.
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: They probably didn't know. We didn't know because my dad's
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: friend owned a video rental place when we were kids,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: so everyone went to Blockbuster. I mean we did too,
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: but we also went to this independently owned one. Yeah,
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: there was no actual like spirit board. There were just
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: candles in a circle, and your parents made me thought
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: that they were preiny to Marilyn Monroe. We don't have
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: that many candles in the Christian Church unless you're Catholic.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: I am catl Okay, I'm telling you non Catholic churches
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: don't have candles them. Well, who knew? Apparently I did.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: Do you know What's another? Like just really quaint detail
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: I picked up And I don't know why it makes
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: me feel so warm inside, but I think it's because
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: this is the person I am. Do you want to
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: guess at what scene it is? Okay, when they are
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: painting the garage and they're all in like and they're barefoot,
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: oversized plaid shirts and barefoot, and it was the fact
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: that they were barefoot and they were dancing, And I
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: have been barefoot as an adult, painting and dancing with
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: when I was the drama club coach and one day
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: he found Whoopsie paint at home depot and he was like,
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: we gotta paint the sets and the stage floor and
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: the walls with this Whoopsae paint. And I remember cleaning
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: up badly from dinner because I don't clean, and then
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: going to the school at night and he put on
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: who does the funk Shure Brother? Chuck it out? Now?
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, She's All That? Yeah? Who's that band? I
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: don't know.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: I don't know if I ever knew, because I listened
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: to it on the She's All That soundtrack.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: See, he didn't put the band on the mix that
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: he made me, and that's why I don't know their
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: name anymore. Fat Boy Slim, it's fat boy. Yeah. He
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: loved that band and he had all of their songs,
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: and that's what we did. Like I would have more
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: songs than that one. I would have the roller and
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: I would just be like rocking out. I'd be like
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: the Funk Shore Brother check it out now, the Funk
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: Show Brother. Because I did not know the She's All
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: That dance. Maybe I'll learn it if we decide to
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: do it on So still comfy She's all that, yeah,
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: let's learn how to do the dance. I used to
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: know how to do the dance. I used to know
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: how to do the Napoleon Dynamite dance, which reminds me
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: my former pal from my former dance studio told me
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: that classes are signing up now, so I get to be,
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: you know, the nearly forty year old signing up to
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: relive her youth. I'm not embarrassed by it. She's like,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: are you going to take jazz? I was like, I
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: really think I want to take tap because stomping around
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: sounds really fun because I took tap as a kid,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: so it's like it's in.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: It's once you learn how to do it. When you
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: learn how to do it as a kid, it doesn't
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: go away right. Your body still will do those things.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: It's just took her year of tap and then Peg
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: and hot Mom made me quit. Why because it gave
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: them a headache. Because again, empathy is the solution. My
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: grandma Peg used to walk me through I was her
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: shopping buddy. Oh because she knew that I because she
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: knew I had that fat kids never die attitude, and
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: I wouldn't ask her to stop. So my mom and
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: Peg had taken me shopping that day. I was exhausted,
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: and I bitched about going to rehearsal, and then my
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: mom with, that's what you're done. I don't know if
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: I had bitched before a lot or whatever, or maybe
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: once again, no one thought I was talented. But every
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: once in a while, because it was a tap ballet class,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: and I had to have been in kindergarten because we
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: were still living where my mom's side of the family lives,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: and every once in a while I'll look at my
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: mom and I'll be like, hey, maybe instead of putting
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: me in weight watchers when I was a teenager, you
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: could have fostered my love for ballet, and I could
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: have gotten skinny that way, you know me, in way
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: that they make dancers get skinny. Cardio is really good,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: Like it's a great way to do cardio. I've told
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: you this.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: I'm working on videos where like I create a Spotify
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: list and then we just kind of like do these
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: fun little dance routines, hoping to launch by fall. But
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: it's a really great way for you to just sort
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: of get stuff out. And I loved tap until I
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: had a really shitty teacher. The last song I did
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: a tap recital too was we had the footloose song.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Please every time that song comes off. We hated this
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: instructor so hard.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: We knew the routine, we still stood up on stage
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: like we did it because we hated her and didn't
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: want her to keep teaching. Wow. The last song that
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: I tapped to was les Poisons from The Little Mermaid.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Oh I love that. Mm hmmmm. We were like little chefs.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: My very first dance was to care Bears. We had
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: to recital with it was we were care bears. We
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: had to recital at the County Fair, and I was
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: the sleepy care bear, which trip was totally appropriate. Can
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: we still have my costume? Can we go back to
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: hank Azaria? Though? Because this is actually my feminist point
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: about this. Hank Azaria and men who tried to date
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: women with young children, and they tried to do that
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: through the young children. Immediate red flag. Yeah, don't tell
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: my kids you're taking them on a trip. Yeah, that's
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: a thing that makes me super uncomfortable. The other thing
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: that makes me uncomfortable is how it has there. He
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: commented that it's their first date. Oh the girls. Yeah,
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: He's like, don't children first date And I was like, no,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: I think it was his first date with mom. And
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: I thought, God, the seventies, what a time to be
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: a single mom, What a time to be alive. Where
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: she's like, maybe this guy will sign up for a
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: credit card with me. But yeah, you're right, like it
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: is a little bit of a red flag. And two
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: I don't know it just you know if I watch
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: me every time, it's a plot point in a movie. Yeah.
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: I have to tell you when I date what I
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: do online dating. If they put their kids in their
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: profile pictures, I swipe no, because now I know what
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: your children look like. I could be a crazy psycho bitch.
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: I could not be it doesn't you know? You you
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: need to find out. But it's one of those things
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: where I'm just like to have some You're allowed to
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: have privacy until you get comfortable with somebody. It actually
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: made me really uncomfortable during Girl Meets World that Sean
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Hunter had a really solid relationship with Maya and then
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: decided to date her mom. I was like, you can't
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: date moms through their kids. Creep This just it.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: I used to have this thing where Jackson went where
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: the I know it's it's fine where I used to
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: have this thing where.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: Like I'm living alone now empty empty nesters stuff whatever.
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: My kid comes home from college. This is the problem
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: with doing show with your friends. The level of privacy
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: that you try to achieve goes away. It basically Clay
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: becomes a FaceTime call. Yeah, pretty much.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: And you know, my kid comes home and he's like, oh,
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: I brought home this professor because he didn't have anywhere
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: to go for Thanksgiving and we always do it, and
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: we always do.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: A big thing for Thanksgiving. And I don't want to
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: finish that story because we all know that I want
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: to live in a buttoned up Okay, So you know
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: how Sam's grandma comes, No, they go to see Clors Leachman.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: I have a moment for Cloris Leachman because God, she's
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: so genious. When they go over to her house and
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: they want to know about Crazy Pete and the murders,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: and Cloris Leachman is like, oh, no, some things we
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: just don't need to talk about. And I was like,
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: how is Cloris Leachman the exact opposites of my grandmother
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: and my great aunts? Because my grandmother and my great
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: aunts would have been like sit down, and then they
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: would have had a rehearsed re enactment of those murders
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: and all of the new like my so I had
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: a great uncle who died young tragically, and my grandma
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: peg and my favorite great aunt. They would like my
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: mom likens it to a Greek choir, the way that
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: they tell when they had to go to Washington, d C.
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: Because he was passing away. And it's a terrible story,
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: but it is kind of comical how they tell it
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: because like they tell it, well, they're giving their Oscar speech. Yeah,
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: they've probably had forty years to relive it, and so yeah, well,
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: and they were so young, like they were I don't
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: think that they were twenty two. They were so young.
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: It was like so like it was like there now
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: and then summer that was their like oh wow, life
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: changing moment right where they had to their husbands were
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: already at the hospital in DC and they had to
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: get from Illinois to d C on their own and
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: it was probably like I don't know, it was before
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: women could have credit cards, like and they just had
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: it like they had to get on a train, they
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: had to drive to the train, they had to figure
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: it all out. There was no Google. Yeah, and it
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: was to go to this tragic thing, the paper maps
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: that you had, Like yeah, and it was and it
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: was too and I I mean, my grandma and my grandaunt,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: who I love dearly were best friends for a lot
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: of reasons, but I'm sure that that's one of the
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: reasons that cemented it. Yeah, there's things that we talked
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: about all the time. Trumpa bonding, right, So when Chloris
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: Leachman was like, no, no, no, I don't want to
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: talk about the murders, I was like, what is this.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: This is not how Croatians behave. Croatians go, oh, do
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: you want the tea? Oh good, I made tea? Sit down,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: and then they go it was dark and stormy night.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: Your grandfather and I were watching Letterman and we knew
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: that Pete had a drinking problem, but no one told them,
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: but we know. And then like you're sitting there and
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: you're twelve and you're overhearing things that you shouldn't And
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: then your grandmother is like, it was bloody. The splatters
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: on the wall, I could paint them now. That would
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: have been my family.
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I don't know if my family would have
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: my You know what would have happened.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: My Auntie would have been like, I'll tell you when
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: your mother leaves the room. Oh yeah, that's how my
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: aunt showed me Grease. That's how my aunt gave me
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: nail polish when my mother wasn't around. But then, because
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: you know, I'm the oldest grandkid. Yeah, but then when
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: my uncle turned around and my uncle and I are
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: only twelve years apart, and showed her Boy's water Boy
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: at a very young age, she lost it mad, and
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: I was like, what are you mad about? I was like,
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: you do took me to every PG thirteen movie that
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: the schmos wouldn't let me see. Yeah, my aunt did
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: the same thing. I saw The Good Son probably before.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: I shouldn't have. I should have. That's probably really what
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: one of the things that actually probably screwed with my psyche.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: Aside from all of the psychological thrillers from the sixties
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: that my parents made us watch during family film night,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: Grease was the first musical that I watched on film.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: It was the first musical soundtrack that I owned. And
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: it's because it's my favorite aunt's favorite musical. That's so funny,
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: like admitting who my favorite family members are on the internet, Like,
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: sometimes my family get petty, but I don't.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: Know how many people actually helped you in your time
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: of need during this air ace but debacle.
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: You know what, My family likes to rewrite history, so
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: they'll all take credit for whatever I'm talking about. They'll
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: be like, she's talking about me. It's me. I seem
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: to recall none of them showed up to help you.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: I don't think my aunt actually Like I stopped talking
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: to people during the heat waves, so I don't think
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: my aunt actually knows.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know, the news just reported it's like
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: record breaking tempts all over the country right.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: Now, all over the country. But the shout out to
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: all of the aunts letting kids get away with shit
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: right now. I wish I could be that Auntie. I
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: thought you were that Auntie. I mean, yeah to my
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: best friend's kid. Yeah. But you know she's not gonna
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: have like other people in her life who are going
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: to get it when she talks about Auntie Julia, you
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: know what I mean. Like, I can text my cousin
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: right now be like, remember how your mom did blah
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: blah blah blah. Yeah, she'll know it's amazing what I
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: remember from well, no, but I.
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: Mean like like my cousins and my siblings and I
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: can like swap stories like my my niece and air quotes.
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: Isn't going to be able to like share she can
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: share those stories, but no one's gonna It's just that's it,
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: Like no one's gonna have live in that memory with
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: her in the same way.
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: So my favorite memories from my aunt's old house is
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: when she had she had a basement and all the
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: kids were thrown into the basement and my parents, my
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: parents and my aunts and uncles and the adults would
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: be like telling the like really horrific family stories and
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: like really getting like rowdy, rowdy, rowdy, rowdy us kids
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: because we're all these assholes kids, so we know how
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: to tell a story. We're all in a story in
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: a circle telling their more most horrific moments. Do you remember, though,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: do you remember when your mom and then we're reenacting it? Yes,
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: I love the best time, the best time. I'm gonna
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: do a quick skim of my notes to say if
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: there's anything else, oh now, and then its anti capitalism, yes,
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: because they all pulled their money together and didn't care
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: who put in more or who got that money or whatever,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: and they all got a tree house at the end
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: of it, and then they all shared that tree house,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: and Rita Wilson wouldn't even take it out of her
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: tree because she's like, I can't we all own it? Yep,
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: and Christy got star craving mad.
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: Anytime they had that spend that money on anything but
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: the treehouse.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: It was for the treehouse. Now, what's her name? Is
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: she the woman from Reality Bites? The weird waitress? Is that?
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: How that is? I love Reality Bites. I don't know
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: if I've actually finished it, and I love her. I
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: literally just rewatched it the other day, so because you
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: were rewatching it, I was like, shit, is there another season?
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: I'm convinced that I finished it, and then I like
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: never went to check, So there it is. I love this.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: She pops up in weird movies. She's also in Rome
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: and Michelle's Reality Bites, the movie with Ben Stiller and
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: Wainona Writer and Jeannie Gruffalo. Well, I'm talking about I'm
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: talking about a show on Hulu where it's her raising
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: her kids. And I don't think that these people are
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: the same people. No, you're thinking you're thinking of better
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: it's a single mom show Better Days, Yeah, with uh Paula. Yeah. Fuck?
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: What's her name Adlin? Pamela Adlin, because she's a voice actress.
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: Better Days. Is that what it's called. I don't know.
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: It's a it's a show that slaps.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: I have it on my here's the funny part, you guys.
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: I've watched every single season except the new season, because
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: the new season is the final season and I'm not
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: ready for it to be over. Yeah, because her kids
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: are super and she wasn't always Pamela Adlin. Because I
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: just rewatched, rewatch Better Things.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: Better Things, I got it. And my final point for
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: tonight is this movie should have been about Chrissy and
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: Robert Roberta falling in love. And I'm just gonna leave
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: it there. I do kind of love that the kid
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: who's like hello dear with their kids nose Ye ends
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: up being Chrissy's husband, Like, I love that, and it's
- 1:17:16Speaker 1: so subtle, like it's not blatant about it. He just
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: walks into the room, he's like, hello dear, and you're
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: just like, you married that kid. I'm proud of you, Chrissy,
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: But I don't know if I'm proud of my people
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: who married the nosepickers that we know from our youth,
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: because you know how I feel about mediocre men. Well,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: I mean, like, you know, every boy picks their nose, Natalie.
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: If they tell you they don't, they're lying, Like, I
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: don't know, it should have been it should have been
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: about Roberta and Chrissy.
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: You know, if they do decide to reboot it, I
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: think that that could potentially be the storyline.
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: Yeah, and it'd be nice to see.
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: I literally can't recall one single black person in this film.
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: Yes, I would also make sure that there were people
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: of color. Yeah. Yeah, and not just like the homeless
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: guy that's from the war. Yeah, like crazy Pet and
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: the Vet cannot be the black they can't be the
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: people of color. You need to make one of those
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: little girls one of the black people. Yeah, because and
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: she can't be renting her house like she has to
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: own her house, like they all own their house. Like
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: it can't be some tragic ass situation, right right. She
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: can't be the one with the dead mom. She can't
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: be the one with the dead be dad. She has
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: to be Chrissy. It has to be Chrissy.
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: Because you know, I realized that while I accepted white
- 1:18:42Speaker 2: narratives in the nineties, I am finding myself very frustrated
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: with shows that could easily not have not be centered
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: around white characters, but who run with a diverse group
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: of people because the show is still centered around white
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: noess when the male, when the main character is white,
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: and then you have.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: The quirky ethnic friends, Like I thought we'd grown past that. Yeah, No,
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: it makes me sad mm hmm looking at you Maggie
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: on Hulu. Oh, I haven't watched it yet.
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: It's cute, but again she it's centered around this white girl. Yeah,
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: and you know, all the characters around her are not
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: white and all they're all quirky.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: I truly do miss the B plots and movies where
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: we learn the most about the eccentric person in town.
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: Like I miss that being the B plot, you know.
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: And I said it, and I said it earlier, and
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: I'll restate it again. There's something very there's something I
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: wish they would bring back. Being committed to the one storyline. Yeah,
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: and then you have maybe this sub the line B Yeah,
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: and just sticking with.
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: That, I miss us. Actually I'm not funded still well
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: because it was such a simple fucking movie. I miss
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: us getting to be invested in the town and the
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: community that your show is set. And I'm looking at you,
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: Virgin River. I didn't know that fucking Virgin River had
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: a dojo until this goddamn season because I don't know
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: anything about the town Virgin River. Why it's not real? Okay? Also, well,
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: we want to stars Hollow, but I could probably draw
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: a map of stars. They did a really good job
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: with creating stars Hollow as a character in them in
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: the show. Absolutely, and I miss that. I miss like
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: knowing that crazy p is the eccentric guy who was
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: not a victim of a murder. Oh shit, come on,
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: I'm I can't think of any more songs. Okay, Oh,
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: I just thought one ticket to ride, Ticket to Ride too.
- 1:20:59Speaker 2: But you're right about Virgin River, because how many times
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: did we both go, wait, this is the city's.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: On a river? Where the hell did they Where the
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: hell did they get a dojo? Why are they surrounded
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: by a lake? When do you think it's appropriate for
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: us to just get to bitch openly about season four
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: in all of Virgin River. Well, it's been out a
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: full week starting tomorrow. Okay, So when do you think
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: it's polite to give out spoilers and start re enacting
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: Melon Jack fights? I mean after tomorrow, I feel like
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: it's very game. Do you want to be Mel or
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: do you want to be Jack? Do you want to
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: get you a really good mel? I believe so, And
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: then I will just look at you, oh my I
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: and be like, I'm sorry, did you think that that
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: was a problem? And then you can just tell me
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: I didn't say it was a problem. I just say
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: said it was something that I noticed, because I can't
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: make you feel bad, And then my hands can come
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: up here and I'll be like, so, is this something
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: I'm fixing for our relationship or not? That show they're getting, well,
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: did I tell you?
- 1:22:07Speaker 2: I read an article somewhere that so they're getting a
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: whole new show runner for season five?
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: Yes, So hopefully it's better. Maybe someone will commit to
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: getting us through these first five months of Virgin Room,
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: because in the timeline I'm convinced it's only been five months. Well,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: because I mean, think about it, Charmaine was probably already
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: like eight weeks when she found out she was pregnant, right,
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: Twins don't ever make it to full term. There's not
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: enough room. M M. So yeah, it's probably been five
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: to six months, which leads me to the fuck are
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: you doing four seasons falling in love? And also four
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: seasons first of all? And the fuck are you doing
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: falling in love? After six months? My sister is convinced
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: that this show will never leave the first year and
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: that Charmaine will always be pregnant because they don't actually
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: want to deal with having to deal with babies in plots.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: I just can't, Like, I told you they don't want
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: to deal with babies.
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: I told you this over well they don't, I mean, yeah,
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: they I told you this the other day when we
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: were watching it together, I said I missed the days
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: when television seasons would end. And as we aged four months,
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: so did the show right, because then it's September now,
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: so we can all assume we're all in sixth grade
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: now as opposed to this shit that picks up and
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: Younger did the same thing. Younger had seven seasons, and
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: when you watch it straight through, you're like, okay, yeah,
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: this is maybe a year and a half in Younger land.
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: But when you spend seven seasons and you think why
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: the fuck is Liza so mad and like scared about
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: getting married to Charles.
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: I'll marry Charles and seven years.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: Yeah exactly, And then you remember, oh, technically in younger land,
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: it's only been like a year since her divorce.
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: I was with Eliza though, she don't have to get
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: married just to like again a bait, a mediocre man's ego.
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: Listen, Yes, when you've been a person who's already spent
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: time in a marriage with a trash partner, yeah, totally
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: get it. I have been a single adult female my
- 1:24:22Speaker 2: entire adult life, with a few stints with having boyfriends.
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: I would love someone to come in and take care
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: of half the bills.
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna take a picture just to post on another group.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: Let me make sure that that says. And now for
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: the moral of the show. Okay, oh no, did you
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: take it? I'm still posting. I'm not gonna get it
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: exactly right. And that's what's irritating. Should I just take
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: a video for those video? Yeah? Now I'm timing it
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: because I have a Facebook group that's really gonna love that.
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna be like, we weren't even talking about Virgin River.
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: It's just the moral of every show that I do. OMG,
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: it's a trash show that wastes our time. Yeah, and
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: you know what, I deserve compensation? Yeah, you know, I
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: just don't. I.
- 1:25:27Speaker 2: You know, we've had this conversation, why the fuck can't
- 1:25:31Speaker 2: I get a job? No, I've like, my samples aren't bad.
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: I thought I can't be virgin. I had a play debut,
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: a one act play debut in twenty nineteen. I cannot
- 1:25:45Speaker 2: tell you how many people who went to that play
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: and then texted me. Was like, there was like five
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: other one acts and they were like, yours was the
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: best one.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: So why can't I get a fucking job? Natalie? I
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: don't know. Should I just start putting it on my blog?
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: Should I just start put on my blog? You should
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: start putting you on your blog? Fuck? Do you know
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: that Virgin River is based on books? Like people read
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: these the series of books?
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: I did know Virgin Rivers based on books. And so
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: here's my thing. Because Humboldt County is several hours north
- 1:26:14Speaker 2: from here. It's like a coastal ish county in California.
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: So when they talk about.
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: How quickly they all run into Sacramento, I'm just like,
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: have y'all never done that drive?
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: It's a bad drive. I don't think this person understands.
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: And then the other part of it, too, is like, oh,
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: we're driving through and we're gonna we're gonna stop in Portland.
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: Do you understand how far Portland is from fucking Humboldt to.
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: A bad drive? Like?
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: Is it seven hours or is it six? From where
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: I am in California, which is ninety miles south of
- 1:26:47Speaker 2: Sacramento to the border of Oregon is a six hour drive?
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: No, it's a trash show, waste our time. I want
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: compensation as a twelve hour drive if I drive straight
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: through and don't stop. I'm reading to start abandoning doing
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: tiktoks that are actually based on my podcast episodes, and
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: I'm literally just gonna do bits where I say this
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: is what I deserve compensation for I do. Steven Moffatt
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: looking at you, Yeah, you owe me compensation twice for
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: Doctor Who and Time Traveler's Wifeler's Wife, which got fucking
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: fucking canceled. You couldn't even swindle them into season two.
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: And yet somehow we're getting season two of Just Like
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: and Just Like that make it make sense, you know,
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: and again you and I both read the book.
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I think we could have done a really good adaptation.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: See see where was the where was the book during
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: our lives about the show?
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: Natalie? It was on that book shuffle? Yeah, yeah, that
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: was it was. So it's like, again, it's one of
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: those things.
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: And Mintie Kayling actually pointed out on her Instagram maybe
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: or her Twitter years ago. She commented, She's like, I
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: don't understand asking for writing samples of original works because
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: when she was coming up, or maybe it was in
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: one of her books, because when she was coming up,
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: they wanted you to write a specscript of whatever show
- 1:28:14Speaker 2: it was you were trying to be on. And to me,
- 1:28:17Speaker 2: that makes more sense because then you're actually demonstrating you
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: understand the characters and what the dialogue is that they
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: would say and who they are, but.
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: Not so easy for them to steal your ideas for free. Well,
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: and so steal the fucking spec script I wrote, not
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: the TV show I hope is gonna win me an Emmy.
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: You know, here's it for our final question? Okay now
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: and then still comfy. Yeah, And I really just didn't.
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: I was like, man, I feel bad, but I'm still
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: comfy with it. Why do you feel bad? I don't know,
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: because there's no black people in it, but the soundtrack
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: is so good, and the soundtrack is really good. But
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: you know what it was? What really like why I
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: think where the guilt comes from, because so much of
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: the nineties of what I was allowed to watch was
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: very white and same with like the world I was
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: living in, so like, even though we were a.
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: Mixed race family like there, it was still a heavily
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: a heavy white influence in my life. And so there's
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: a lot of stuff I'm learning in adulthood, especially about
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: the eighties and nineties black culture, where I'm just like, man,
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: we missed out on that as a family, And what
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: how much more confident in my racial identity would I
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: have been had I not been the outlier all the
- 1:29:39Speaker 2: time right and not constantly forced to live in a
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: predominantly white world. And I think that's where that came from,
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: because I saw myself in these girls. I wanted to
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: be these girls.
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: I shit you not.
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: I used to ride my bike around the neighborhood with
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: my feet up on the handlebars like that.
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: I emulated them so much. It was a great movie
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: that movie fucking slaps. I love. Also, the reason I
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: picked the picture that I did for the socials is
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: because I love when you have kids and adults playing
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: the same character and they take a really cute group
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: picture like that. It's a bit that gets me every time. Yeah,
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: and I think they did a really good job at
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: casting the younger and the older. Oh. I was gonna
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: tell you the girl that plays Chrissy Yi. I was
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: because I was looking. I was like, what has she
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: been up too lately? Nothing she did? Yeah, she kind
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: of had it. It's from the way it reads online.
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: It sounded like she kind of had a hard time well,
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: you know, and like, does she have a great aunt
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: that wants to morbidly tell us that story? Twenty six?
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: She was twenty six? Oh god, yeah, And that made
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: me sad. And then I thought, God, I don't know
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: what happened to Sam, little Sam. Oh, because Christina became
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: Christina Ricci And what is Gammy Hoffmanda? What isn't she doing?
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: She was on Girls, She's in I watch that shitty
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: show Girls.
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: Like okay, Well I watched it because I wanted to
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: live in New York and I am embarrassed by the
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: fact that I watched it because it's fair Dams makes
- 1:31:32Speaker 2: me mad. Yeah, I think that she's an interesting person.
- 1:31:37Speaker 2: She has done a ton of stuff lately. She was
- 1:31:40Speaker 2: in Transparent, which ended in twenty nineteen.
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: She was Transparent. I didn't watch Transparent. Okay, all right, Well,
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: but she came up again for me in Girls because
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: I did watch Girls in I think after it was
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: all done in twenty eighteen, and I thought, oh, good
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: for you.
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: But she's you know, she's consistently works like every couple
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: of years.
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: Just like I've never recognized her adult face. You know
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: what it is.
- 1:32:08Speaker 2: It's because her adult face looks so different from her
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: childhood face. Like her brow is very strong and prominent,
- 1:32:17Speaker 2: which I don't know if you get that from her
- 1:32:21Speaker 2: when she's a kid, if that makes sense.
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: Okay, this is bringing up Sunce memories. And I ask
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: you a question offline. We have a private chat. We
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: do have a private chat, but I feel like you

- 1:32:47Speaker 1: teeny a sex symbol. I loved it. I thought that
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: that was like, that is the exact way that I
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: two felt sexy at thirteen years old, Like, it's all
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: just talk. Yeah, it's all me doing fake up, makeup
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: scenarios in my head, like bad makeup, bad makeup. Didn't
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: I tell you?
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: I was like, I voice, I would do this right.
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: I was like, ask me why I'm five minutes into
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: this movie and I'm emotional.
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: I'm emotional. I love this movie. You know what, at
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: one point we will have to confront the comfort movie
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: that still makes me comfy even though it's uncomfy. But

- 1:38:46Speaker 1: the moment where I had to swallow the fact that
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: I'm not a good singer, because I had that shame
