- 0:02Welcome to Impact Ready, a show dedicated to helping you elevate
- 0:06your impact in the world. I'm Steph Safra, your host.
- 0:09Let's explore the power of showing up with intention and
- 0:12energy each day. This is for those who seek to
- 0:15make life truly meaningful. Get ready for impact.
- 0:22Hi, team, welcome to the show. So glad you're here.
- 0:26I can't believe it, but we're almost to the end of January.
- 0:28We're almost through month 1 of 2026 and I will never understand
- 0:33time. I will never understand how
- 0:35quickly and also slowly time can move, especially as we get
- 0:41older. It just it, it confuses my
- 0:43brain. My family and I just got back
- 0:46from a vacation together. We were gone all last week and
- 0:49we we typically try to get away in January because it's the
- 0:52coldest, rainiest, grayest, darkest time in Portland.
- 0:56And so it felt really good to be away and we're back.
- 1:00I'm fired up to get back into the routine of things.
- 1:04I always love coming back and, and feeling creative and excited
- 1:07and inspired again. But being gone, it's easy for
- 1:12habits and routines to slip a little bit as they do.
- 1:15I'm sure you've experienced that.
- 1:17It happens to me sometimes too and I don't get too worried
- 1:19about it honestly. I think it's good for us to get
- 1:23out of the structure sometimes, get out of the, the, the
- 1:26routine. I think it creates space for new
- 1:29thinking and new perspectives, some creativity.
- 1:33I always come back with different ideas about stuff that
- 1:36I probably would have never come to had I just been in my my
- 1:41day-to-day. But I will be honest with you, I
- 1:46slipped into an old habit of mine recently, which is to
- 1:51scroll on social media at night before bed.
- 1:56Now you guys know how I feel about screen time, how I feel
- 2:01about doom scrolling especially before bed, how it impacts sleep
- 2:06hygiene, blue light for their impact on your brain, etcetera
- 2:11etcetera. I've talked about it so many
- 2:12times, but here I am being transparent about the fact that
- 2:18I'm just a normal human who falls into bad habits just like
- 2:21everybody else. And this is one that really gets
- 2:24me. Sometimes it's easy for me to
- 2:27fall back into it especially happens when there are big
- 2:32events happening in the world. I get sucked into reading news
- 2:35and looking at articles. I get sucked into looking at
- 2:38posts about what's happening around the globe.
- 2:41And I'll be straight up, and I will say that it's absolutely
- 2:45not helpful for me. It goes against a lot of the
- 2:49things that I coach on, a lot of the things that I talk about on
- 2:52this podcast. But I thought I would share this
- 2:55example with you first, to be really honest about the fact
- 2:59that I screw up with my routine and my habits just like everyone
- 3:02else. But also to talk about the
- 3:05importance of how you recover, how you reset after missing a
- 3:11day or blowing up a routine or going back to an old habit.
- 3:15How you get back on track with your system.
- 3:19The recovery, the reset is almost as important as the
- 3:24system itself. Now, I'll describe to you the
- 3:28way that this went down last night.
- 3:31My wife was looking at me. We were laying in bed and she
- 3:35was looking at me. And she said, hey, you've been
- 3:37scrolling a lot before bed. You've been on your phone a lot
- 3:41at night. And I said, yeah, I have been.
- 3:45And she goes every night. You have this alarm that goes
- 3:48off at 9:00 that says put your phone away.
- 3:51And almost every night you ignore the alarm.
- 3:54And I said, yeah, I, I am. I'm ignoring it almost every
- 3:59night. And I could feel the urge to
- 4:03tense up as she was talking to me.
- 4:05I I could feel the old desire and urge to sort of shut down to
- 4:12what she was saying to me. Normally, these kinds of
- 4:14comments would have annoyed me. I would have gotten offensive.
- 4:17I would have started making excuses and blaming other things
- 4:20for what I was doing. But I held and I was listening.
- 4:25And she said to me, you know, that's not helpful to you.
- 4:28You talk about it all the time, how this is not helpful for you
- 4:31to be looking at social media before bed.
- 4:35We ended this short conversation with an agreement to put our
- 4:39phones away at 8:30 at night and focus on other things before we
- 4:42go to bed. And I agreed to that because I
- 4:45knew she was right and I knew that I was doing something that
- 4:49was not helpful and was probably harmful to me.
- 4:53Now, I recognize that this is just a silly example about too
- 4:56much screen time, but I've been thinking about this today and it
- 5:00really has me thinking a lot about the recovery, what
- 5:04somebody does when they need to recalibrate or reset from
- 5:07something that is off or taking them away from their alignment
- 5:13or their forward momentum. Like I said, the old me would
- 5:17have been pissed about that conversation.
- 5:20I would have been annoyed. I would have probably gotten
- 5:22offensive. But last night I didn't want to
- 5:25do that because I was very aware of something in that moment.
- 5:30I asked for this. I asked for a partner who would
- 5:34call me out on my bullshit. I wanted a partner who wants the
- 5:39best for me, who will hold me accountable to the things that I
- 5:42say that I'm going to do, who will hold me accountable to my
- 5:45dreams and my own growth. And in that moment, I realized
- 5:50that's exactly what I was getting.
- 5:53When I think about recovery, I know that that perspective.
- 5:57I asked for This is always very level setting for me to remember
- 6:02that I can't begrudge the things that I've said yes to in the
- 6:07past. And what I've said yes to is a
- 6:09partner who is going to push me and challenge me when it comes
- 6:15to recovery. I also recognize that I have to
- 6:19stay open. Instead of being defensive in
- 6:21the situation, I want to be open minded and open hearted.
- 6:26I want to assume the best of my partner, to assume that she is
- 6:30speaking to me in my best interest.
- 6:33And in truth, she's holding me accountable to something that I
- 6:36have said in the past that I really want to prioritize, which
- 6:40is putting the phone away and eliminating the social media in
- 6:43the mornings and in the evenings.
- 6:45But how often do we assume the worst of somebody when they call
- 6:49us out on something or when they hold us accountable to something
- 6:53that we have said that we've wanted?
- 6:55How often do we get defensive and put our walls up?
- 6:59I mean, it happens all the time. We often talk about surrounding
- 7:04ourselves with the people who will lift us up, who will
- 7:07promote our growth, who will challenge us and ask more of us.
- 7:11I want that as part of my scaffolding in my life.
- 7:14So I can't begrudge when somebody's calling me out on
- 7:18that. I asked for this.
- 7:21When I think about recovery, it makes me think about how I need
- 7:25to take radical ownership of the circumstances.
- 7:28So I did a little audit today and I thought, OK, what is this
- 7:32all about? Why was I letting this boundary
- 7:35for myself slide? And so I looked at all the
- 7:39different parts of it. Part of it is that I just got
- 7:42LAX. I've been traveling a lot.
- 7:44My routine has been off. I've been more tired.
- 7:46And every time I get tired, I get a little bit off my game.
- 7:49I know this about myself. So there's that piece of it.
- 7:53I also know that I can get pretty worked up about things
- 7:57that are going on in the world. It's very easy for the heaviness
- 8:01of things happening to impact me.
- 8:05And I know that this is very common.
- 8:06I'm sure you've been feeling something similar in your own
- 8:08life. But something I know about
- 8:12myself, something I became aware of, especially God, it really
- 8:16started in 2020 with the onset of the pandemic.
- 8:19I realized that putting all of my attention and focus on the
- 8:22outer world, consuming all this information and being so trauma
- 8:26exposed was really detrimental to my energy, my frequency.
- 8:32And it it very much impacted the way that I was showing up for my
- 8:36people in my own life. And I don't say any of this
- 8:40lightly or in a cavalier way because I am an advocate of
- 8:44being informed. I strongly believe that it is
- 8:47very important to be educated and informed about what's going
- 8:50on in the world. I think we can all agree on
- 8:52that, but not at the expense of our own personal Wellness.
- 8:58It's easy for our nervous system to become overwhelmed with the
- 9:01amount of information that we're taking in, and as a byproduct,
- 9:04it lowers our frequency so much so that we can't be the light in
- 9:11our family or our community. We can't be the light that is
- 9:15needed. When we are consumed with fear
- 9:19and worry and grief and trauma and we are constantly exposing
- 9:23ourselves to information that adds to that.
- 9:27Guess what? We can't be of service.
- 9:30I know that I can't. I can't serve in the way that I
- 9:33know I should be or could be because of the way that my
- 9:37nervous system feels and is responding.
- 9:41We're not able to have the positive impact that we need to
- 9:44have. We're not able to share our
- 9:45gifts with the world. We're not able to lift people up
- 9:48the way that we could. And it's so serious.
- 9:52It's such a powerful thing. The power of the media today,
- 9:55the power of the images and the videos and the algorithms, it's
- 9:59so incredibly strong. It's designed to be that way.
- 10:01And I've seen it take down some really brilliant people, people
- 10:05that I know and I love and I respect.
- 10:07I've watched them have to go dark for weeks at a time to
- 10:10recover from the state of mind that they experienced because
- 10:13they were over consuming news and articles and social media.
- 10:17I've seen this happen and I felt this happened myself.
- 10:21So again, I don't say any of this lightly, but I do have a
- 10:24keen awareness of how important it is to protect your energy and
- 10:27protect your frequency, that energy that you broadcast into
- 10:32the world in difficult times. We want to be a light to others,
- 10:36not a drain to others. And so I recognize that it's my
- 10:40job to be very vigilant about this.
- 10:43So taking radical ownership of all of that is something that I
- 10:46have to do. Ownership of my boundaries, my
- 10:51energy, my frequency, the way that I'm showing up, all of it.
- 10:57The last thing I really thought about with recovery is this.
- 11:00I don't want to spend time in the shame, blame, guilt pattern.
- 11:04I don't want to spend time making excuses about why I got
- 11:07back into the bad routine or why I'm doing it.
- 11:10I want to acknowledge it, but I don't want to sit in it.
- 11:13That's problem energy. What I really want to do is get
- 11:17back on track with keeping the promises that I make to myself.
- 11:21I want to shorten the amount of time that it takes for me to
- 11:24have the idea and take the action.
- 11:27I want to do what I say I'm going to do because that
- 11:30directly impacts confidence. It directly effects my sense of
- 11:35personal integrity. If I want to find solution to
- 11:38this be in solution energy, I want to get clear on why this
- 11:42habit, this routine matters to me and take action on it.
- 11:47I want to reconnect to the mission or the vision for who I
- 11:50want to be and how I want to feel.
- 11:52Because when I do that, when I can see it all really clearly,
- 11:55it makes it so much easier to actually decide and do the
- 11:59things that are aligned with that.
- 12:02So all is to say, this is all part of the game.
- 12:06You know, me sharing this story with you, breaking down what I'm
- 12:09thinking about the recovery process, It's all because
- 12:13practice doesn't make perfect. It makes progress.
- 12:17And when it comes to making even better progress, you think about
- 12:22how well you can recover when things don't go your way or when
- 12:26you screw up a little bit in life.
- 12:28It's all about the recovery, baby.
- 12:30So I hope this helps. This week, I hope that you go
- 12:34easy on yourself. I hope that you feel like you
- 12:36can take ownership of the things that are happening in your own
- 12:39sphere. And remember that you are always
- 12:43broadcasting a frequency out into the world.
- 12:45People can feel your energy and you are a light in your
- 12:49community, in your family. And we need that light more than
- 12:52ever right now. We need your light.
- 12:55So don't get caught up in the perfection.
- 12:58Get obsessed with the progress and remember there's always
- 13:01space for recovery. I'm glad you're here.
- 13:05I'm glad you're listening. Thank you for being incredible.
- 13:08And as always, team, thank you for being ready to Impact.

- 13:14I hope today's episode inspired you to own your impact and
- 13:16recognize that you are powerful. By elevating our energy and
- 13:20awareness, we can create exponential change in this life.
