- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. Now.
- 0:41I'm going to guess this is a guest because I don't know you
- 0:44personally. You've got at least one bad
- 0:46habit. Something isn't that healthy and
- 0:49something that if you did less of that and more of something
- 0:51else, actually it would improve the quality of your life.
- 0:55You would feel better about yourself.
- 0:56You might have more energy, more health, more confidence,
- 0:59something. Like that?
- 1:01Well, you've come to the right place because.
- 1:02This hypnosis session. Is all about reducing unhealthy
- 1:07habits and increasing healthy habits.
- 1:10And there was a client that I was working with that used to
- 1:12drink alcohol on their own and then they stopped drinking
- 1:16alcohol and they started having sugary sweets and they didn't
- 1:20want to replace one with the other.
- 1:22So you might be familiar with the game called Whack A Mole,
- 1:25where in these kind of arcades a little animal would pop up, you
- 1:30hit it with a little hammer and then another one pops up
- 1:34somewhere else. That can happen with habits that
- 1:36actually you break one habit and then another unhealthy habit
- 1:41just replaces it. So we don't want this
- 1:43psychological whack a mole taking place.
- 1:45What we want is to be intentional.
- 1:47That is one habit reduces, a healthy habit replaces it and
- 1:53it's good to have behavioural psychology alongside the
- 1:56hypnosis within this. And I make reference to a marble
- 2:00jar. So if you just think of a big
- 2:02vase, a glass vase or a big one of those big jars, the the kind
- 2:08of Mason jars. Now just imagine that you've got
- 2:11lots of marbles and every time you did something healthy.
- 2:14Instead of something. Unhealthy.
- 2:16You put one of those marbles and you put it in the jar and you
- 2:18could probably imagine what that would sound like, the rattling
- 2:21around the glass on glass kind of sound that becomes an anchor.
- 2:26It becomes a trigger. That actually means that you get
- 2:29to feel good whenever you do the healthy thing.
- 2:32And then you get to feel good by rewarding yourself by putting
- 2:35the marble in the jar. And you also get to feel good
- 2:37whenever you see that jar filling up with marbles to say,
- 2:41oh, I'm, I've got lots and lots of healthy habits that I'm
- 2:44building in my life. So that's a, it's a metaphor
- 2:47within the hypnosis, but I would encourage you to buy that big
- 2:51jar, buy the pack of marbles and then give yourself a rule that
- 2:56says when you do something healthy or you do the habit that
- 3:00you want to cultivate more of, put a marble in the jar.
- 3:04And then that creates a wonderful self fulfilling
- 3:06prophecy and positive reinforcement, which is part of
- 3:10behavioural psychology. Now this session is about wine
- 3:14and sugar. That's the habits that this
- 3:16client wanted to change and be more active and do things like
- 3:20more yoga and walking and things like that.
- 3:23It might be different for you. So if you like the idea of a
- 3:26bespoke session, something crafted specifically for you,
- 3:31have a look in the show notes because there's a suitability
- 3:33test and there's a webinar and there's various downloads and
- 3:36courses all there in the show notes.
- 3:39So check those out. For now, though, find a quiet,
- 3:43comfortable place where you won't be distracted or
- 3:45disturbed. Relax and enjoy.
- 3:48The session Take a deep breath in and as you
- 4:11breathe in, breathe in that slow, long, relaxing breath.
- 4:18And as you exhale, allow your eyes to close and position your
- 4:25body in such a way where you can really feel comfortable and
- 4:32relaxed. That's it.
- 4:36Breathing and relaxation and exhaling tension.
- 4:45Each breath facilitates a release.
- 4:51A release of any stress and worries.
- 4:55A release of any frustration or annoyance.
- 4:58A release of anything that has been contributing to anything
- 5:05other than calm, peace, tranquility, and acceptance.
- 5:16And when you breathe in, breathe in slightly deeper than you
- 5:19normally would. And as you exhale, allow the
- 5:26outward breath to continue the longer than it normally would.
- 5:35And the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel and the
- 5:42more relaxed you feel. The deeper you.
- 5:45Breathe and just scan your body for any clues of tension,
- 5:52stress, any echoes of emotions that aren't needed right now,
- 6:00and every exhale. Allow yourself give permission
- 6:06to just let go and feel the release of that unnecessary
- 6:13emotion there in the outward breath that's in, and there may
- 6:27be sensations, tingles, twitches, lightness or heaviness
- 6:36that lets you know that this release is happening.
- 6:45And every time you notice something, you allow your
- 6:51unconscious mind to facilitate more of that release.
- 7:01Because there is nothing that needs to be done.
- 7:03Nothing to manage, nothing to figure out.
- 7:09Just this, just now. Just the simple permission to
- 7:18arrive somewhere quieter than outside.
- 7:26Noise doesn't just come from building work and the external
- 7:32environment. Sometimes noise happens inside
- 7:38your own mind. The nervous system sometimes
- 7:44forgets. 1 Stillness feels like until it remembers.
- 7:56Notice the weight of your body, the places of contact and
- 8:01support, the breath moving on its own without instruction.
- 8:10Reliable, constant, always there, even when everything else
- 8:19felt uncertain. Your unconscious mind is
- 8:28incredibly resourceful. It's been working on your
- 8:33behalf, even in the hardest weeks.
- 8:37It's been finding clarity in places you didn't expect it.
- 8:44And here, now, today, you get to let that clarity settle, to
- 8:52deepen, to become something that lives in the body and not just
- 9:00the mind. I want you to remember a place.
- 9:10A place, perhaps, that only you know, A place from childhood, A
- 9:16place in nature, perhaps a place outside that felt yours.
- 9:26Maybe it was surrounded by trees or water or open sky.
- 9:32It doesn't even have to be a real place.
- 9:34It could be just within your imagination, a place the mind
- 9:41goes when it needs to find itself again.
- 9:48And in this place there is a particular quality of light, the
- 9:55kind that makes everything feel truthful, the kind that doesn't
- 10:02allow shadows to be confused for solid things.
- 10:10And with each breath, you can go deeper into this place.
- 10:18As I count down from 12:50, give permission to go deeper 10/9 the
- 10:30ordinary noise of the day receding. 876 arms and legs
- 10:40becoming heavier and more relaxed, more at ease. 543 A
- 10:49deep, comfortable stillness. 2 and then one.
- 10:56And what if here, in this space of deep knowing, your
- 11:03unconscious is listening, ready to receive what is true, what is
- 11:12real, what you have already decided at a level far deeper
- 11:21than words You already know that there is a particular kind of
- 11:30freedom that doesn't need to announce itself loudly.
- 11:37It arrives quietly in the gap between the old habit and the
- 11:43new decision, and sometimes a person doesn't fully recognize
- 11:50it for what it is. Think of a realization where you
- 12:00have arrived at something important, not through willpower
- 12:06and not through struggle or white knuckling your way through
- 12:09a craving, but through genuine clarity.
- 12:16The kind that comes when the body and mind and all of your
- 12:21history and experience all speak at once and say no, not this,
- 12:32not anymore. I want you to think of that
- 12:40recent moment where it made sense.
- 12:46You introduced A boundary and felt No Fear of loss, but a
- 12:52sense of liberation. You escaped the issue.
- 12:59You weren't running away from it.
- 13:04A direct message from your own intuition, your own experience,
- 13:08saying I don't want to drink alcohol at all.
- 13:19You don't want it. And that is not a limitation,
- 13:26not a sacrifice. That is simply a fact about who
- 13:31you are. You don't want it anymore.
- 13:39You are not someone who wants to drink but is trying not to
- 13:43drink. You are someone who simply does
- 13:47not drink because you simply do not want to.
- 13:54And you can notice the difference between those two
- 13:57identities. The person trying not to do
- 14:03something is always in a mild state of resistance, still
- 14:09attached to the thing, a constant struggle, second
- 14:17guessing. But the person who simply does
- 14:24not want to do it and does not do it has stepped outside the
- 14:30equation entirely. They are not at war with
- 14:36alcohol. They are indifferent to it in
- 14:45the same way then nonsmoker that would never want to smoke does
- 14:54not need willpower to not pick up a cigarette.
- 15:01It's just background noise. It exists, it's there, but they
- 15:10do not want it. And your unconscious mind can
- 15:15make this shift not as an instruction to be enforced, but
- 15:24as a recognition of what is already true.
- 15:30You've already crossed the threshold, the decision has
- 15:35already been made. This is just enabling all parts
- 15:44of your unconscious to recalibrate, to synthesize, to
- 15:53integrate. And whenever you think about a
- 15:57future where alcohol might be present, you already know in
- 16:04advance you don't want it. Alcohol is not in your future,
- 16:15but it was in your past. It belongs to a version of you
- 16:21that you have already outgrown. And every social situation that
- 16:29once felt like it required willpower or negotiation, every
- 16:35offer of a drink, every moment with the old habit would have
- 16:40reached for something in a glass.
- 16:43We can now carry a different feeling.
- 16:47Not deprivation, not discipline, Simply the quiet satisfaction of
- 16:57someone who knows exactly who they are.
- 17:09You fully integrated that realization now, so let's turn
- 17:14your attention to something else, something that where is a
- 17:19more innocent disguise your body has been sending equally clear
- 17:28signals about. And there is a substance, an
- 17:34addictive substance, a poisonous substance responsible for
- 17:41killing millions each year, that is added to almost everything
- 17:49that has been normalized so completely that the food
- 17:53industry has made billions ensuring people never stop to
- 17:58question it. It hides in birthday cakes and
- 18:05office biscuits and sauces and condiments, and the body
- 18:14experiences not as a food but as a drug.
- 18:22Some people call it the most deadly of the white poisons,
- 18:27refined sugar, not the natural sugars in an apple or a banana
- 18:34or dried fruit like a fig. These things come packaged with
- 18:41fibre. A grape has sugar, but has water
- 18:48to carry and dilute that sugar. Fruits have micronutrients.
- 18:55They work with the body's enzymes.
- 19:00But the white crystalline substance that has been stripped
- 19:04of everything except it's hit. When refined sugar enters the
- 19:12bloodstream in a drink or a sweet or a piece of chocolate,
- 19:21it does not behave like food. It creates a spike, a rapid
- 19:30elevation of dopamine and blood glucose that feels briefly like
- 19:36relief, like reward, like pleasure, distilled,
- 19:41crystallized gratification. And then, like all drug hits, it
- 19:49drops rapidly and the drop creates the craving for the next
- 19:56hit. This isn't a metaphor, this is
- 20:05real biochemistry. The reward pathway activated by
- 20:11refined sugar. Is the same reward pathway
- 20:16activated by cocaine. The mechanisms of craving is
- 20:22chemically identical, the withdrawal is real, the
- 20:29tolerance builds, and the dose required to get the same effect
- 20:34increases over time, affecting the blood, the body, the brain.
- 20:43Refined sugar is not a treat, even if it's hidden in colorful
- 20:49packaging. It is a drug.
- 20:55And if you see it clearly now for what it is, let me know
- 20:57about nodding your head. That's it.
- 21:04And sometimes it's sneaky. Those fruit juices come from
- 21:13concentrate that has sugar. The syrups, the jams.
- 21:21It's obvious when it's a sugar cube, it's obvious when it's a
- 21:26can of fizzy drink. But I want you to imagine being
- 21:31able to look at something that you know contains sugar the way
- 21:38you might look at a line of cocaine on a table with clear
- 21:44eyes. Nobody sees cocaine and think,
- 21:50oh, that's harmless. They know it's corrosive,
- 21:57addictive. But a drug user does it anyway.
- 22:05Once you see sugar for what it really is, you don't want it in
- 22:11refined form, you only want it in natural form.
- 22:20Something that is wonderful in nature is toxic when it's gone
- 22:30through that process of refinement, taking everything
- 22:36good, nutrients, water, fiber out.
- 22:41That's what makes it dangerous. You see sugar with the knowledge
- 22:48of what it actually is and what it actually does.
- 22:53Not with fear or craving, but with the calm recognition of
- 22:58someone who has decided that this is not for me anymore.
- 23:06Not because I cannot, but because I know what it is and I
- 23:12don't want that. Sugar withdrawal is real.
- 23:18It feels like it can cause tiredness, cloudiness, fatigue,
- 23:30irritability. But your unconscious mind is
- 23:35already prepared for it, considering it a tunnel, short
- 23:43or long, with a clear light at the end of that tunnel.
- 23:45And when you get to the other side, you're free of it.
- 23:53And any inner dialogue that says it's harmless is like bait on a
- 23:59hook. If you nibble at the bait, it
- 24:05pulls you back in. If a fish knew the bait had a
- 24:12hook, of course they'd never eat it.
- 24:16But they don't, and that's what leads to their demise.
- 24:24Some people believe that when you know better, you do better.
- 24:32When you see refined sugar for what it really is, even a
- 24:38commercial of a soft drink of ice cream takes on a sinister
- 24:44connotation. These companies know it's
- 24:50addictive. It kills people. 100 years from
- 24:55now they will look at adverts, the high sugar products, in the
- 25:02same way that we look at adverts for cigarette companies in the
- 25:061950s. They knew and yet they did them
- 25:12anyway. You are out or soon to be out of
- 25:22that tunnel, already free of it, with no desire to nibble at the
- 25:29bait. The food industry has little
- 25:35interest in you, discovering an energy that is steady rather
- 25:41than spiked. Your unconscious will crave real
- 25:47natural foods while your blood sugar levels rise slowly and
- 25:56fall slowly, not spike and crash.
- 26:05Your body runs clean. You choose food that nourishes,
- 26:11not substances that spike and crash.
- 26:23It's interesting how the mind works when a habit is removed.
- 26:28Something important that your unconscious can hold onto as a
- 26:33piece of protective wisdom. The human mind, the reward
- 26:39system, is ancient. It is wired not for health or
- 26:46longevity or spiritual growth, but for immediate relief from
- 26:53discomfort, for the quickest available dopamine to the
- 27:00nearest exit from an uncomfortable feeling.
- 27:03And when one door is closed, the mind, with its remarkable
- 27:09efficiency, immediately begin searching for the nearest open
- 27:14door. And This is why people stop
- 27:19smoking and then start snacking, stop drinking and begin
- 27:24compulsive online shopping, leave one difficult relationship
- 27:30and unconsciously find their way into a structurally identical 1.
- 27:38This is not weakness, it's engineering the internal reward
- 27:44system doing exactly what it was designed to do.
- 27:47And because you see the mechanism clearly, you can work
- 27:54with it rather than being worked buy it.
- 28:01You do not replace 1 crutch with another, one destructive habit
- 28:06with another. You get to choose where your
- 28:10dopamine comes from. Consciously, deliberately, with
- 28:16full awareness. And the question your
- 28:22unconscious can sit with is, what do you want to be addicted
- 28:28to? That drive to seek reward and
- 28:33pleasure is not going away, nor would you want it to.
- 28:39It's what gets you out of bed, what draws you towards beauty
- 28:45and connection and craft. The question is only ever toward
- 28:51what shall this drive be aimed? Your body has its own
- 28:59intelligence about this. It already knows what it means
- 29:05to feel genuinely well, genuinely alive.
- 29:10And there are activities that produce the same neurochemicals
- 29:14as substances, but without the consequence and the debt,
- 29:20without the withdrawal, without the morning after.
- 29:26The best example is movement, exertion, the physical world
- 29:32meeting the body with real resistance and real reward.
- 29:37That also produces dopamine, but also endorphins and serotonin in
- 29:44a form the body recognizes as earned, as real, as sustainable.
- 29:54The accomplishment, the particular satisfaction of
- 29:59making that important decision, learning that new thing, making
- 30:04something with your hands, getting something done that
- 30:09you've been putting off, all of that also releases that
- 30:15dopamine. What if you were addicted
- 30:23Movement, exercise, walking, or accomplishment.
- 30:31This is not a substitute for the thing you are leaving behind.
- 30:36It is something of an entirely different order because a
- 30:41substance gives the feeling of reward without the underlying
- 30:45reality, whereas accomplishment gives the feeling of reward
- 30:52because of the underlying reality.
- 30:58The reward and the achievement are proportionate.
- 31:04And what if you are building a life where your dopamine is real
- 31:09with a feeling of reward and the thing you have done are
- 31:13connected? I want you to create an image in
- 31:19your mind. A big jar made of glass, maybe a
- 31:26glass of ours. Just imagine every time you do
- 31:33something that required effort, a difficult decision, you solved
- 31:41a problem, you did that thing you wanted to do.
- 31:48Just imagine placing a marble in a box next to it into the jar.
- 31:57Hear it clink. Maybe it spirals round.
- 32:04Maybe it has that bouncing sound of a glass, marble and glass.
- 32:11When you do the thing, you feel good.
- 32:16When you put the marble in the jar, you feel good.
- 32:21And every time you see the marbles in the jar accumulating,
- 32:28you feel good. And I wonder if you could
- 32:40imagine six months from now, six months of being free of alcohol
- 32:48and refined sugar. But I want you to see that jar
- 32:53or that big vase filled with marbles and then look at clues.
- 33:03Maybe it's a dog that's smiling and happy.
- 33:09Maybe it's more energy levels and better sleep.
- 33:15Maybe you feel better in your own body.
- 33:22Almost like every marble is proof.
- 33:24Proof of who you are choosing to be.
- 33:28Proof that you can be addicted to things that enhance your life
- 33:32rather than destroy it. Choosing to do difficult things.
- 33:45And there's every reason not to. I encourage you to put 2 marbles
- 33:51in the jar for something particularly difficult.
- 34:01And I want you to assess how you would feel about your life six
- 34:04months from now. What trajectory are you on?
- 34:10Where is your life taking you? Is it better or worse than when
- 34:19evenings were filled? Drinking wine?
- 34:24If you're unconscious, is now willing to shut one door and be
- 34:35very intentional as to the new door you're opening, let me know
- 34:40by nodding your head. That's it.
- 34:45And so it's time to return. You return with clarity.
- 34:52You return with synergy, alignment, an identity that
- 34:58feels exciting, positive. It feels like possibility.
- 35:10So take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 35:14nose and wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes.
- 35:19Connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I now count
- 35:24from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 35:29Starting to count 123 waking up 456 more alert. 7-8.
- 35:40Open your eyes. Open your eyes, 910.
- 35:43Wide awake, wide awake, wide awake.
