Transcript
- 0:00Today's episode is sponsored by Tate Measures. Parking eight feet from a fire
- 0:05hydrant is basically the same as parking on the moon.
- 0:08That friendship was over before, but if there was hope, it's gone.
- 0:13They'll never be friends again.
- 0:15Someone on Blake Lively's friendship with Taylor Swift. Insert theme song here.
- 0:19This is the Daily Starcast. I give you the news, maybe a laugh.
- 0:22I'm Lindsay Vernick, and today is July 7th, 2026.
- 0:26I am not interested in celebrity gossip and drama like at all,
- 0:31but there's something about this whole bleak lively taylor swift thing that
- 0:36i'm so interested in i just think it's so crazy and just like it's so publicized,
- 0:42i just cannot imagine my friendship being or just any part of my life being
- 0:47publicized so much on that level it's just so crazy like literally every breath you take,
- 0:53it's like being watched like there's like huge articles out right now if taylor
- 0:57swift has a dog or not like could you imagine if like millions of people are
- 1:02wondering like about your dog and what your dog's name is like that's so wild to me.
- 1:08Anyway i know i sound like i'm from like outer space but like it just like processing
- 1:12it it's like so strange but then again my boss jen swears that I'm from outer
- 1:19space and that I'm an alien, so I guess this all tracks.
- 1:23So anyway, with that, in real news, Trump kicked off yesterday by becoming the
- 1:29first president to ring the opening bells for both the New York Stock Exchange
- 1:33and NASDAQ from the Oval Office.
- 1:36This marked the launch of the administration's new Trump Accounts,
- 1:40which is a program that creates government-seeded investment accounts for newborn American children.
- 1:45The idea is to give kids a financial head start. by allowing their accounts
- 1:49to grow as soon as they're born.
- 1:52But the policy announcement quickly took a backseat to the bell.
- 1:57Because right after the ceremony, Trump looked at the large gold ceremonial
- 2:02bell sitting in the Oval Office and joked that he wasn't giving it back.
- 2:06And he said, they're going to have to fight like hell to get it back.
- 2:10He then decided that it would be a great new piece for his new ballroom.
- 2:15Eventually, they were able to pry the bell out of Trump's hands and haul it back up to Wall Street.
- 2:22So, no, it's not officially becoming White House decor.
- 2:27I mean, I do understand, like, when I'm at work and I'm using,
- 2:30like, a pen with pink ink, like, it's mine.
- 2:34But also, a pen is a little bit different than the New York Stock Exchange bell.
- 2:40If you live in California or are planning to go there anytime soon,
- 2:45there's a new rule that could cost you a lot of money.
- 2:48So you can now be fined up to $63 for violating the state's new daylighting law.
- 2:56It has nothing to do with electricity.
- 2:59Daylighting is a traffic safety rule that makes it illegal to park within 20
- 3:03feet of a crosswalk, even if the curb isn't painted red.
- 3:08This law just went into effect, but a lot of cities now are really starting to enforce it.
- 3:14The goal is to improve visibility between drivers and walkers,
- 3:17by keeping parked cars from blocking the view at intersections,
- 3:20which makes sense, right?
- 3:22They say that it could help reduce crashes by people getting hit by cars. I mean, love.
- 3:28The tricky thing here is that there's a lot of intersections that still don't
- 3:32have signs or red curbs marking the 20-foot zone, so you're just,
- 3:36like, expected to know the rule even if there's no, like, sign or anything.
- 3:41In LA, the fine starts at $63, and it can vary depending on the city.
- 3:47So beware, in California, there are now parking tickets that you cannot even see.
- 3:53Lionel Messi is finally addressing one of soccer's longest-running internet rumors.
- 3:58For years, a ton of people have thought that there was something going on romantically
- 4:03between him and the sports reporter, Sophie Martinez,
- 4:07a lot because of his emotional interviews with her right after he won the World Cup in 2022.
- 4:14And they've been seen together, too. And obviously, social media has made it
- 4:20into a whole thing, even though there's actually no evidence that they're together.
- 4:25So after Argentina's huge win, three to two World Cup win over Cape Verde this
- 4:31past week, Messi saw Martinez in the media area right before their interview
- 4:37and he decided to address these rumors.
- 4:40And he told her, if I look at you, they'll ask why I looked.
- 4:44If I greet you, they'll ask why I greeted you.
- 4:47And she just laughed and thanked him and also said that the rumors are all lies,
- 4:52she also said that messi's wife had privately reassured her not to worry about
- 4:58the speculation because none of it was true which is super sweet of her,
- 5:02so after years of all these conspiracy theories and hidden meetings and people
- 5:06analyzing photos like they're detectives.
- 5:10This is just to go to show that the internet and their imagination is absolutely wild sometimes.
- 5:18In Lindsay life, I sat on the couch yesterday.
- 5:22I was so exhausted from July 4th weekend, and I have not had a night in.
- 5:27I literally cannot remember. It has to have been at least over a week or two
- 5:31now, the last time I had a night in.
- 5:33I know, I'm so popular and so busy, but I literally just like go out and just
- 5:37go to open mics myself. Trust me, I don't have a lot of plans.
- 5:40I don't have a lot of friends.
- 5:42Anyway, I realized I can actually only sit on the couch for, like, maximum amount.
- 5:48I think I spent five hours yesterday on the couch, which actually is a lot.
- 5:52But, like, I found myself, like, wandering around the apartment because I don't
- 5:55want to leave. It's like that weird line, right?
- 5:57Like, you don't want to leave your house, but you can't sit and watch television anymore.
- 6:02So it's like, what's a girl supposed to do?
- 6:05So I just went to bed at 8 o'clock.
- 6:07Lindsay Lessons, a lesson by Linz. so you want to date a guy whose last name
- 6:12is in the beginning of the alphabet,
- 6:14because that means that if you get married your kids will be in front of the
- 6:20line in all of their classes and like forever growing up and like that's amazing
- 6:24right also who wants to be at the end of the alphabet,
- 6:28also as my last name starts with a v,
- 6:31i was at the back of the line like literally my whole life, so it's really important
- 6:35to me to marry up in the alphabet.
- 6:38Cooking tip of the day. You have to cook your food longer than you want to sometimes.
- 6:44Feedback, comments, questions, a nice Jewish boy looking for a date,
