Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey guys, welcome to another episode of Eating While Broke.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm your host, Colleen Witt, and today we have very
- 0:05Speaker 1: special guest Lou Young, comedian, actor, and all-around content machine
- 0:10Speaker 1: with over 3 million followers and a style that's sharp,
- 0:13Speaker 1: culture's first, instantly recognizable. He's the host of The Lou
- 0:17Speaker 1: Young Show, Coach Lou's Corner, and his work has landed
- 0:20Speaker 1: major brand collabs like NFL, ESPN, and Nike, and many more.
- 0:24Speaker 2: You've also seen him on Netflix, They Clone Tyrone.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Yep.
- 0:28Speaker 2: And he's a former NFL cornerback.
- 0:30Speaker 1: And if that's not enough, he just landed a pilot
- 0:33Speaker 1: at Sundance called Freelance.
- 0:36Speaker 3: That's right.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Do you have any time on your schedule?
- 0:40Speaker 3: Not much outside of my work, being a father. I
- 0:45Speaker 3: got a nine-year-old daughter. And then I'm on the road
- 0:47Speaker 3: a lot. So I just got off the road two
- 0:50Speaker 3: hours ago.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Wow. I appreciate you coming down here.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Just to make a classic.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Fresh off Hartsville, Jackson.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Wow.
- 0:59Speaker 1: We appreciate you coming down here. What are you going
- 1:01Speaker 1: to have me eat today, us eat today?
- 1:03Speaker 3: Right now, I also am a cook on the low.
- 1:06Speaker 3: For real? I can cook low-key, but this is some
- 1:11Speaker 3: stuff I will do. I know the generations are different
- 1:15Speaker 3: now when it comes to kids staying home alone. I
- 1:19Speaker 3: started babysitting when I was eight, when I was the oldest.
- 1:22Speaker 3: So I just kind of had to just make do
- 1:24Speaker 3: what you can make do with to feed the rest
- 1:27Speaker 3: of the congregation.
- 1:28Speaker 1: How many siblings were you looking after?
- 1:31Speaker 3: I'm eight. I was eight, so my little brother was probably,
- 1:33Speaker 3: I don't know. My little brother was five, so two.
- 1:38Speaker 3: And then sometimes it would be like..
- 1:40Speaker 2: Well, how old was the youngest?
- 1:43Speaker 3: The youngest would have been five at that time. My
- 1:46Speaker 3: little brother, yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Do you want to pass that in?
- 1:52Speaker 3: What's going on here? That's Tito. What? That's all he had.
- 1:55Speaker 2: That's all I was trying to tell you.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Huh? Yeah, you got tequila?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Okay, yeah.
- 2:03Speaker 3: This is a gallon of Tito. Oh, true that.
- 2:09Speaker 2: This is funny. I hope we keep all of this. Oh, yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 2: For sure.
- 2:15Speaker 3: For sure.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Okay, so get back into what are you going to
- 2:33Speaker 2: have us eat it today?
- 2:34Speaker 3: So what we're going to eat today is a lunch
- 2:37Speaker 3: meat nacho supreme. Yes, it's a lunch meat nacho supreme.
- 2:42Speaker 3: All the fixings of what you would put on a
- 2:45Speaker 3: deli sandwich, you can put on a deli nacho supreme.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Okay, so walk us through the fixings first or everything
- 2:53Speaker 1: you have. What are your ingredients?
- 2:54Speaker 3: So it would really be like whatever's in the fridge. Okay.
- 2:59Speaker 3: And I love that it's only like These four pieces
- 3:02Speaker 3: of turkey meat left because that's really how it would be.
- 3:05Speaker 3: So we have some turkey meat. We have some bologna. Really,
- 3:08Speaker 3: y'all really dressed it up because I never had pico
- 3:12Speaker 3: de gallo. I didn't really know what that meant until
- 3:14Speaker 3: I was like probably in college. But we didn't have tomatoes,
- 3:17Speaker 3: but I used to put a little ketchup.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 3:21Speaker 3: For the tomato because it's all tomato. We'll put the
- 3:25Speaker 3: base of it will be the Doritos. So we can
- 3:28Speaker 3: just start with.
- 3:30Speaker 2: You did lettuce in yours too?
- 3:32Speaker 3: Didn't have lettuce, but I'm glad that y'all have it.
- 3:35Speaker 3: But we always had peppers. Okay. Even if it wasn't
- 3:38Speaker 3: a lot of protein in the fridge, we always had
- 3:40Speaker 3: kind of peppers, stuff like that. And the Old Bay seasoning,
- 3:44Speaker 3: the shredded cheese. So what I'm going to do is
- 3:47Speaker 3: I'm going to put these on here, the base of this.
- 3:52Speaker 3: I'm going to chop this up, dress it up real nice.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Is there a microwave? Yes.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I don't think it works, but go on.
- 3:59Speaker 3: It doesn't work?
- 4:00Speaker 2: Not right now. I don't think so. I don't know.
- 4:02Speaker 3: We can get it working. And then to dress it
- 4:05Speaker 3: up the way I'm supposed to dress it up, put
- 4:08Speaker 3: that sprinkle of cheese on top of all the nutrients.
- 4:13Speaker 3: Put it in here for a good 30, 40 seconds.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Maybe a minute. A minute and 15. I like my
- 4:21Speaker 3: food hot. Damn near burn your tongue. And then I will.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Dress up the rest of I kind of want to
- 4:28Speaker 2: try it with the ketchup first. I want to try
- 4:29Speaker 2: it the original way.
- 4:30Speaker 3: You want to get ketchup?
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yeah, we got ketchup.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, you got ketchup.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Let's just try it the original way.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Okay.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Just so we can get the whole feel and vibe.
- 4:35Speaker 3: All right. We want no pick up.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Yeah, let's go all the way. So take me back.
- 4:39Speaker 1: You're at home watching your siblings. You're just going through
- 4:43Speaker 1: the pantry.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Yeah. No, yeah. Whatever's there.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I take a single mom household.
- 4:47Speaker 3: No, actually single daddy.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Single daddy?
- 4:51Speaker 3: I'm my mother's only son. Only child. My dad has
- 4:55Speaker 3: two baby mothers.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:58Speaker 3: So we would all spend a lot of time at
- 5:01Speaker 3: my dad's house. Even though we spent time with my mother,
- 5:04Speaker 3: it was definitely a good balance, good co-parenting. And when
- 5:07Speaker 3: you go to my dad's, he is a single dad,
- 5:09Speaker 3: so he would have to work a lot. So I
- 5:12Speaker 3: would kind of take the leadership of holding the fort
- 5:15Speaker 3: down at the house.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Oh, that's cool. Did your mom know that you were
- 5:18Speaker 2: doing that when you were with him?
- 5:19Speaker 3: Nobody knew.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Nobody knew. Nobody knew. All right.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Start cooking it up.
- 5:25Speaker 3: Okay. So now this is a, Yeah, this sounds about..
- 5:30Speaker 2: And that one was smoking. I think someone spilled something
- 5:33Speaker 2: on the burner.
- 5:33Speaker 3: This is done. Which one is... That worked. Does this work?
- 5:39Speaker 2: Yeah. You got to give it a second.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I saw too many people today go like this. Is
- 5:44Speaker 2: it hot? I promise you, I've seen three or four
- 5:47Speaker 2: hands go directly on it. Trust me.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Trust me.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Every time someone hovers, I'm like, please don't.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Please don't. Okay, perfect.
- 5:55Speaker 3: You got butter? Okay. Because really, we didn't really have
- 5:57Speaker 3: the oil... It was more so the butter, that margarine.
- 6:01Speaker 2: And where did you learn this from?
- 6:02Speaker 3: Let me see. I really don't know where. It was
- 6:08Speaker 3: just because Lunchables, right? You know, the nacho and that
- 6:11Speaker 3: cheese and that wheat. Yeah. So I was just like, man,
- 6:14Speaker 3: let's make our own Lunchables. So that's just really how
- 6:18Speaker 3: that went.
- 6:19Speaker 1: So when you guys were in the house doing all
- 6:22Speaker 1: this stuff, were you guys getting together, clowning each other?
- 6:25Speaker 1: Was comedy or having fun in that arena? Something you
- 6:29Speaker 1: guys did on a regular?
- 6:30Speaker 3: Definitely. It was a lot more fighting. We were real
- 6:33Speaker 3: competitive in my house. So, yeah, clowning, joking around, playing games, competing.
- 6:39Speaker 2: All boys?
- 6:40Speaker 3: Me, my brother, and my sister.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Okay.
- 6:43Speaker 3: So, yeah. Me and my sister, she's kind of like Loki,
- 6:46Speaker 3: like a thug. Yeah, she got a little Cleo in her.
- 6:50Speaker 3: And she's from Baltimore.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Okay, okay.
- 6:52Speaker 3: You ever met a Baltimore woman?
- 6:54Speaker 2: No, I don't think so.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a different breed. Okay, okay.
- 6:57Speaker 1: So growing up in the household, where did you inch
- 7:00Speaker 1: in towards either comedy or is it sports?
- 7:04Speaker 3: Sports was like number one. Okay. So it was like
- 7:09Speaker 3: school and sports. So to the point where it was
- 7:12Speaker 3: like sometimes my dad, my mom doesn't know this, but
- 7:16Speaker 3: say I get in trouble at school and I could
- 7:18Speaker 3: have been suspended, but my dad would make sure that
- 7:21Speaker 3: I still go to practice. You know what I mean? How? How?
- 7:25Speaker 2: Can you go to practice if you're suspended?
- 7:26Speaker 3: Because it's outside of school. Now, if I was in
- 7:29Speaker 3: high school or something, I get disciplined and you get
- 7:32Speaker 3: punished or whatever. That's whatever the coach... You hear that?
- 7:36Speaker 2: So you're frying the turkey meat whole?
- 7:38Speaker 3: Yeah. You hear that?
- 7:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I hear it. You sound excited.
- 7:42Speaker 3: That's when we know we got something going right there.
- 7:45Speaker 2: When was the last time you had this? You're getting
- 7:47Speaker 2: excited about it.
- 7:48Speaker 3: It's a little nostalgia. Oh, yeah. And so sometimes I
- 7:53Speaker 3: used to do this. If we didn't have no bacon
- 7:55Speaker 3: or anything, I would make breakfast with the lunch meat.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 7:59Speaker 3: So I get the egg scrambled and then throw some
- 8:02Speaker 3: turkey on there. You smell that? You smell that butter?
- 8:05Speaker 3: Look at you. Yeah.
- 8:07Speaker 2: You're getting all excited. When was the last time you
- 8:09Speaker 2: ate this?
- 8:10Speaker 3: It's been a minute because now I'm eating calamari. You
- 8:13Speaker 3: know what I mean? Fuck all that. But at the
- 8:16Speaker 3: same time, there's nothing to give back to the community.
- 8:23Speaker 3: There's some of that on there.
- 8:23Speaker 2: You're seasoning it with Old Bay?
- 8:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Peppery. This is what she was doing when you was young.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Yeah. Because, all right, me and my brother used to
- 8:32Speaker 3: watch Emeril. You remember Emeril? Bang! So we used to
- 8:36Speaker 3: watch that shit until midnight. We were supposed to be asleep,
- 8:38Speaker 3: but we... Because my dad would be like, y'all better
- 8:41Speaker 3: not walk downstairs and eat. So in order to feed ourselves,
- 8:44Speaker 3: we would watch the TV. And we'd be like, God damn.
- 8:47Speaker 3: What if we got some food like that? My dad
- 8:52Speaker 3: never cooked. I think he cooked one time, made us
- 8:55Speaker 3: some fish sticks and baked beans. And the fish sticks
- 8:58Speaker 3: was frozen. Nigga don't know how to cook. He made
- 9:01Speaker 3: a good egg salad sandwich though.
- 9:03Speaker 1: A good egg salad sandwich? So basically when you went
- 9:06Speaker 1: over there, how would you guys eat?
- 9:08Speaker 3: Oh, fish filet, McDonald's.
- 9:12Speaker 2: That's terrible.
- 9:14Speaker 3: This nigga got the nerve to tell me now. I
- 9:16Speaker 3: got my daughter some nuggets one time for having a
- 9:19Speaker 3: good day at school. He gonna talk about some Kanye
- 9:22Speaker 3: don't feed his kids that. I said, nigga, you didn't
- 9:25Speaker 3: feed your kids. It's hereditary.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Now, is it specific that you don't cook the bologna
- 9:34Speaker 2: and the turkey meat together?
- 9:35Speaker 3: Yeah, we don't want to cross households.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Is there a reason for the flavor? Or because you
- 9:44Speaker 2: do your baloney a certain way?
- 9:46Speaker 3: They're all going to meet at some point. It's like
- 9:49Speaker 3: having two baby moms. We're all going to collect at
- 9:52Speaker 3: one point. The dad has to pick everybody up. So
- 9:56Speaker 3: with that being said, you see this? I'm going to
- 10:00Speaker 3: make sure that goes. Let me use this plate too.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Go for it.
- 10:06Speaker 3: What? Yeah, we don't even need this. We don't even
- 10:10Speaker 3: need it. Yeah, we don't need that. Dang. Damn. I'm
- 10:21Speaker 3: ready to come out of there. Do you need this?
- 10:25Speaker 3: I don't want to get no grease on you.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. And we just want to give it a
- 10:32Speaker 3: slither because I told you we're going to put it
- 10:35Speaker 3: in my..
- 10:38Speaker 2: Damn.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Okay.
- 10:41Speaker 2: And are you going to cut it up, too?
- 10:44Speaker 3: I've never seen this done. Listen.
- 10:45Speaker 4: In order... To preserve the surprise, you have to be
- 10:53Speaker 4: willing to wait for the production and the procedure. And
- 10:58Speaker 4: that's what's happening right here.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Got a little more butter. We're done with that. We're
- 11:04Speaker 3: done with that. That's enough. That's enough of us right there.
- 11:10Speaker 3: And now you see that I have the stove on this.
- 11:15Speaker 3: You see that? Yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 2: You're really stepping over here.
- 11:19Speaker 3: That lets me know. That lets me know that I have, oh,
- 11:26Speaker 3: this is a good bologna. Now, preferably, I would have
- 11:29Speaker 3: liked a little red strip. Oh, okay. But it's okay.
- 11:32Speaker 3: It's okay, a little nostalgic.
- 11:33Speaker 2: How do you know it's good bologna, though?
- 11:35Speaker 3: Right there. That's how you know, right there. Talking about
- 11:39Speaker 3: how you know goddamn. And look at that. You see
- 11:41Speaker 3: that heartbeat? You see that? That's when that titty get
- 11:45Speaker 3: to popping. Oh yeah. This is what we call a
- 11:54Speaker 3: breast implant. Go one more.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Oh wow.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Then I will massage it up.
- 12:06Speaker 2: So you don't cut the little slither in it?
- 12:10Speaker 3: I start poking holes.
- 12:12Speaker 2: Later. I'll stay out of the kitchen, okay? So getting
- 12:15Speaker 2: back to your story.
- 12:16Speaker 3: Okay. We phone checked the bologna though.
- 12:21Speaker 1: So you know early on you want to go to
- 12:23Speaker 1: the NFL?
- 12:24Speaker 2: Damn. Oh, look, it's burning on the side.
- 12:26Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. We phone checked it. That's how
- 12:30Speaker 3: you know you got it. Go ahead. What did you say?
- 12:31Speaker 2: You know early on you're getting into the NFL?
- 12:34Speaker 3: Nah. I wanted to go. I always wanted. That was
- 12:37Speaker 3: always my dream. Where did I get this stove from? Damn.
- 12:43Speaker 2: I think this is a Walmart.
- 12:44Speaker 3: This bitch cooks quick.
- 12:46Speaker 2: You got it up all the way, though.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. I'm cooking like a young hoe. They say
- 12:53Speaker 3: young hoes cook everything on high because they ain't got
- 12:56Speaker 3: no patience. It is burning. Oh, yeah. You smell that?
- 13:02Speaker 2: I smell it. I smell it.
- 13:04Speaker 3: That's how we know we got something good cooking. What
- 13:06Speaker 3: did you say, though? Talk to me.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Talk to me about your NFL experience.
- 13:10Speaker 1: That was your first gold hit, correct?
- 13:14Speaker 2: Big major milestone?
- 13:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Talk to me about it.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Definitely was like, to get to the NFL was like great.
- 13:22Speaker 3: I was just talking about this yesterday to these kids
- 13:26Speaker 3: at the Maryland spring game, right? And I was like,
- 13:30Speaker 3: it was like definitely more of a business. And like
- 13:34Speaker 3: now the NFL is like way different because it's about
- 13:37Speaker 3: social media and they want content. These niggas doing TikTok
- 13:39Speaker 3: dances before they do practice. And we used to come
- 13:42Speaker 3: out of practice like, Niggas be like, man, I hope
- 13:46Speaker 3: I make it today. But it's like..
- 13:49Speaker 2: Make it in the practice?
- 13:50Speaker 3: Or just get through the practice. It was just more stress. Yeah.
- 13:53Speaker 3: Now it just seems more lighthearted. Like they... Everybody wants...
- 13:57Speaker 3: That's sales. The ticket sales, everything. The sorriest team might
- 14:01Speaker 3: have the best media, social media team.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Wow.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Right now. I wish I would have came out in
- 14:06Speaker 3: this era in the NFL. Low key.
- 14:10Speaker 2: But..
- 14:11Speaker 3: I'm glad that I learned those lessons and stuff like that.
- 14:14Speaker 3: I learned how a business is run by being in
- 14:16Speaker 3: the NFL.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Really?
- 14:18Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Because I spent a lot of time in
- 14:21Speaker 3: the front office, which means I was getting cut a lot.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Okay.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Which means I wasn't on the team very long. Okay.
- 14:28Speaker 3: So I spent a lot of time going upstairs.
- 14:31Speaker 2: What do they do upstairs when you go upstairs?
- 14:33Speaker 3: Cut your ass. Yeah, that's what they do.
- 14:36Speaker 2: What was your first check looking like?
- 14:37Speaker 3: 5, 000.
- 14:40Speaker 2: That was it?
- 14:41Speaker 3: My signing bonus as a rookie. So $ 3, 500 after taxes.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Guess what I did with it?
- 14:45Speaker 2: What did you do?
- 14:46Speaker 3: Spent it.
- 14:47Speaker 2: On what? In a day? On what?
- 14:49Speaker 3: O's and close.
- 14:52Speaker 1: So how long were you in the NFL total?
- 14:55Speaker 3: Five years. Five years. I'm making more money now than
- 14:59Speaker 3: I did there.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Okay. In the five years. Hell yeah. But in the
- 15:03Speaker 2: five years, what did you make?
- 15:06Speaker 3: Shit. I don't know because... I was, like, my rookie year,
- 15:09Speaker 3: I was on four different teams as a rookie. So
- 15:13Speaker 3: that's one month Denver, one month, no, all spring OTAs. Like, okay,
- 15:21Speaker 3: the draft just happened, right? Majority of the guys that
- 15:22Speaker 3: got drafted are undrafted. So what month are we in? April?
- 15:26Speaker 3: So May, June, July, August, they'll go through spring, fall, preseason,
- 15:35Speaker 3: stuff like that. so they would get to spend at
- 15:37Speaker 3: least four months. But they really not making no money
- 15:41Speaker 3: unless they was, like, drafted. Okay. That make sense?
- 15:45Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's such a dangerous sport for no money.
- 15:47Speaker 3: Okay, so if you was drafted, you get guaranteed money.
- 15:50Speaker 2: Okay.
- 15:51Speaker 3: That signing bonus.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Okay.
- 15:53Speaker 3: You undrafted like me, my guaranteed money was the $ 3, 500
- 15:57Speaker 3: that I got after taxes. That's terrible. See what I'm saying? But, granted,
- 16:03Speaker 3: you're not, like..
- 16:05Speaker 2: And that went on for five years?
- 16:06Speaker 3: No, that's that first year.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Okay, but second and third, it went up to what?
- 16:10Speaker 3: You get to stack up what you get in the
- 16:11Speaker 3: season and stuff like that. But my rookie year, after,
- 16:16Speaker 3: let me see, all them teams, I had to break
- 16:20Speaker 3: a lot of leases. Because I went from Denver, Baltimore, Jacksonville,
- 16:26Speaker 3: then Carolina. So the lease I broke in Jacksonville spanked
- 16:29Speaker 3: my ass. Oh, my God. Yeah. I was actually, the
- 16:36Speaker 3: girl I talked to, she has two kids. I became
- 16:40Speaker 3: her third kid. Ain't that crazy?
- 16:44Speaker 2: I believe it, though. A lot of dudes do that.
- 16:47Speaker 3: And once I had a child, I was like, that
- 16:50Speaker 3: was dead ass wrong. Yeah. You know what I mean?
- 16:53Speaker 3: Because she was just..
- 16:56Speaker 2: So after you get out of sports, I love how
- 16:58Speaker 2: you're doing this.
- 16:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Okay, go on.
- 17:01Speaker 3: No, I'm listening.
- 17:01Speaker 1: After you get out of sports... You do your five years.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Did you look back and say, that was a tough bid?
- 17:08Speaker 1: What am I going to do next?
- 17:09Speaker 3: It definitely was a tough bid. I think we might
- 17:13Speaker 3: need some more meat on here. What do you think?
- 17:15Speaker 2: It's fine.
- 17:16Speaker 3: You think?
- 17:16Speaker 2: It's fine.
- 17:17Speaker 3: All right. We can go with another sliver on there.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I knew he was going to go for another bologna.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Yeah, let's get another bologna.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Yeah, because you have a lot of turkey.
- 17:27Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Are you actually going to eat it?
- 17:29Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. Come on, I got to let them know that.
- 17:37Speaker 2: You're cross-contaminating.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Look at all this. Yeah, I know. Right now, this
- 17:43Speaker 3: is what you call a mixed child.
- 17:47Speaker 2: So you leave the, look, you got something on that burner, see?
- 17:51Speaker 2: It's okay, we'll see if it goes pop.
- 17:52Speaker 3: What happened? Oh, damn.
- 17:56Speaker 2: It's fine.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Okay, cool.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Let's see if it goes pop. You don't know what
- 18:00Speaker 1: I'm talking about with electric stoves. You'd be like, damn,
- 18:01Speaker 1: I ain't using that burner for the rest of its life.
- 18:03Speaker 1: See it go pop.
- 18:07Speaker 2: That's it. Dude, when you cook at home, do you
- 18:12Speaker 2: cook like that? Like that?
- 18:16Speaker 3: Because it's just really just nostalgia with it.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Okay.
- 18:22Speaker 1: So after sports, are you sitting there in your head?
- 18:25Speaker 1: Is your ego getting to you? Or are you just
- 18:27Speaker 1: thinking about, I need to make some bread?
- 18:30Speaker 3: I have started making content like my fourth year in
- 18:37Speaker 3: the league. Yeah, I think that's when I got to like, nah, fourth,
- 18:42Speaker 3: going on fifth. I got to Arizona and I got hurt.
- 18:48Speaker 3: And majority of my career, I kept getting hurt. I'd
- 18:51Speaker 3: get on injury reserve and I was just like, man,
- 18:53Speaker 3: I'm tired. And my body beat up and I hit
- 18:56Speaker 3: my daughter's godfather up. And I said, man, I'm tired
- 19:01Speaker 3: of this shit, bro. I want to start doing the,
- 19:03Speaker 3: I want to do the social media stuff. Because my
- 19:06Speaker 3: agent son, my agent son, who's like, kind of like
- 19:09Speaker 3: a cousin to me, he was like, Lou, you should
- 19:12Speaker 3: do social media. It was some people named, I think
- 19:15Speaker 3: it was called Fuck You Jerry or some shit. They
- 19:17Speaker 3: had these memes. He's like, Lou, bro, you can, at
- 19:21Speaker 3: the time I had like 10,000 followers.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Off of being funny?
- 19:24Speaker 3: No, off of just playing sports. Okay, okay. And just
- 19:28Speaker 3: looking like a sex symbol. nah he but yeah so
- 19:32Speaker 3: that was i just had i used to i was
- 19:35Speaker 3: one of them social media niggas at that time that
- 19:37Speaker 3: used to be like oh i'm gonna take a couple
- 19:40Speaker 3: months off two months still no social media i was
- 19:43Speaker 3: one of them niggas Delete all my pictures and shit.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Zero pictures. One picture. Yeah, I was one of them.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I would go private. Have my face private. I was
- 19:53Speaker 3: just doing the most.
- 19:54Speaker 2: So why did everybody want you to do social media?
- 19:57Speaker 3: Because that's just how I was as a kid. I
- 19:59Speaker 3: would impersonate my coaches, their parents. And we might lose
- 20:04Speaker 3: the game. We might get our asses. But I'm going
- 20:06Speaker 3: to be joking. It's not about the rain on my parade.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I'm a competitive person. If I don't win, I'm going
- 20:12Speaker 3: to be pissed off. Yeah. After the game, I put
- 20:14Speaker 3: them clothes back on and we had McDonald's or something. Yeah.
- 20:18Speaker 3: I'm jumping in the pen with the play pen. You
- 20:21Speaker 3: remember the play pen? Yeah.
- 20:22Speaker 2: They still got it.
- 20:24Speaker 3: Really?
- 20:24Speaker 2: Yeah. I still go to them. When I'm trying to
- 20:26Speaker 2: be cheap with my daughter, I'd be like, Friday, McDonald's playground.
- 20:30Speaker 3: They really got a playground still?
- 20:32Speaker 2: Yes. Let me tell you.
- 20:34Speaker 3: You got to watch that shit now, though.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Let me tell you. What do you mean? What do
- 20:39Speaker 2: you mean, germs wise?
- 20:40Speaker 3: Everything.
- 20:41Speaker 1: You know what I think is more disgusting than McDonald's playground?
- 20:44Speaker 2: I think the most disgusting place on earth for kids
- 20:47Speaker 2: is Chuck E. Cheese.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Every time I get a Chuck E. Cheese invite, I'm like...
- 20:54Speaker 1: Everything about Chuck E. Cheese is gross to me. The
- 20:56Speaker 1: second I get the invite, I don't want to go.
- 20:58Speaker 1: I don't want no parts of it. Everything about Chuck E.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Cheese. What about the trampolines places?
- 21:03Speaker 2: I like those places.
- 21:04Speaker 3: I think they're more contaminated. That's some stinking niggas in there.
- 21:09Speaker 3: I'm telling you right now. The last time I was
- 21:11Speaker 3: in there, my daughter's seventh birthday, I was about to
- 21:14Speaker 3: put her through a fucking car wash. I was about
- 21:16Speaker 3: to hold her down. Because everybody's sneezing and shit.
- 21:21Speaker 2: See, my daughter's only four, so she ain't there yet.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Yeah, but..
- 21:26Speaker 2: I do the indoor playgrounds, the boutique indoor playgrounds.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Oh, you go. Oh, you can have a mocktail.
- 21:32Speaker 2: No, I'm in LA where they have them all over.
- 21:34Speaker 2: They're like high end, clean.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Okay. Could I see, it's a spot back home in
- 21:39Speaker 3: DC where they, it's like a spot for the parents
- 21:42Speaker 3: to come there and fellowship. And they can have a fucking,
- 21:45Speaker 3: you can have a mocktail and whatever. Fucking Gabby and
- 21:49Speaker 3: her friends. But yeah. All right. Now that we've done that,
- 21:56Speaker 3: now we're about to make lemonade. Okay. This looks like-
- 22:00Speaker 3: You see what I did there? I got that grease
- 22:02Speaker 3: off of there.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Right under the table.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Oh.
- 22:05Speaker 2: This looks like some serious heartburn.
- 22:07Speaker 3: No, I didn't dissect it, the grease. Let me just-
- 22:14Speaker 3: You hear that? Is that the squeak?
- 22:27Speaker 1: So you start getting into social media. How long does
- 22:29Speaker 1: it take for you to start to get a little
- 22:32Speaker 1: girl following?
- 22:33Speaker 2: Did you turn the stove off? It's still smoking.
- 22:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I turned it off. I'll say that again.
- 22:41Speaker 2: How long did it take you to get a following?
- 22:47Speaker 3: It smells. What did you say? What time? To get
- 22:50Speaker 3: a following? It was not overnight. And then I started.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Then I was doing impersonating stuff. Then I started. Doing
- 22:57Speaker 3: this Steve Harvey shit. And I really didn't like it.
- 23:00Speaker 3: But it was like going up. And then they called
- 23:03Speaker 3: me and this and the third. And I was out there.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Who called you?
- 23:07Speaker 2: Steve Harvey?
- 23:07Speaker 3: My boy Quinn. He from back home. He went to
- 23:10Speaker 3: Morehouse with Roderick, his son. And to Beatty. And they tight.
- 23:15Speaker 3: So then they was like, they going to bring me
- 23:17Speaker 3: out there to a family feud in L.A.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Okay.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Flew me out there. And then I went out there.
- 23:23Speaker 3: And I thought I was just going to do a
- 23:25Speaker 3: couple little skits and stuff with him. But they actually
- 23:28Speaker 3: put me on stage in front of the white folks.
- 23:32Speaker 3: And it was like really white. It was a family feud.
- 23:35Speaker 3: And I'm like, damn. But it was like three black
- 23:37Speaker 3: women in the front. And I just connected with them.
- 23:40Speaker 3: And I was like their favorite nephew that day. And
- 23:43Speaker 3: they laughed at everything I did. And then the crowd,
- 23:45Speaker 3: I just focused on them. So when I came out
- 23:46Speaker 3: of state, they were like, they're going to sign me.
- 23:49Speaker 3: And I was like, oh, we about to go. We millionaires.
- 23:52Speaker 3: And I was wrong.
- 23:54Speaker 2: What happened when they signed you?
- 23:55Speaker 3: Not a goddamn thing.
- 23:57Speaker 2: How long were you there?
- 23:59Speaker 3: Let me see. I was there for, I was there for,
- 24:01Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying? Up until two years, yeah,
- 24:04Speaker 3: about a year ago.
- 24:06Speaker 2: So nothing happened for all those years?
- 24:09Speaker 3: By far, it was like this. If I didn't do
- 24:13Speaker 3: my thing, I'd have just been a nigga on their roster.
- 24:16Speaker 3: For sure.
- 24:18Speaker 2: What did they want you to do?
- 24:22Speaker 3: It was a lot of, I was, the character was
- 24:24Speaker 3: Sleeve Harvey. And it was like, Schlieve Harvey versus Steve Harvey,
- 24:28Speaker 3: all this stuff. And it did its thing. And then
- 24:31Speaker 3: I was like, right before the pandemic, Super Bowl honors.
- 24:35Speaker 3: And he was still hosting NFL honors. And I was like, man,
- 24:40Speaker 3: I need to be on the red carpet so I
- 24:41Speaker 3: can be in the character. That shit was so lame.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Oh man, cheese grits. I felt so fucking lame. That
- 24:50Speaker 3: shit was so lame. I remember like Derrick Henry, I
- 24:53Speaker 3: was like, what the fuck is this? I had a
- 24:55Speaker 3: stocking cap, the beard. I was too much. I was
- 24:57Speaker 3: half drunk. I was, cause I was just out there
- 24:59Speaker 3: for the wrong reason. That's why I tell people, you're
- 25:01Speaker 3: going to do your thing, do it for the right reason.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Don't be trying to prove nobody wrong, prove yourself right.
- 25:06Speaker 3: And I went out there and I was like, trying
- 25:09Speaker 3: to show everybody like, nigga, I ain't in the league,
- 25:10Speaker 3: but I'm in the league, nigga. And I looked crazy.
- 25:15Speaker 3: And my girl, Christelle, she's like my white auntie. She
- 25:19Speaker 3: called me. She's like, top of the charts when it
- 25:21Speaker 3: comes to getting in contact with Steve Harvey. And she
- 25:25Speaker 3: was like, Lou, we have to talk about what happened
- 25:28Speaker 3: in Miami. And I was like, damn. I was in
- 25:32Speaker 3: the parking lot of the Gold's Gym in Largo in Maryland.
- 25:36Speaker 3: And I was like, damn. You can feel when you
- 25:38Speaker 3: fuck up, even as a kid. You know they're going
- 25:41Speaker 3: to call your mama. Like, oh my God, they're going
- 25:43Speaker 3: to call home. And I was just waiting for that call.
- 25:45Speaker 3: As a grown ass man, I knew I fucked up.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Call me. She's like, Lou, we got to And after
- 25:51Speaker 3: that call on the phone, everything just clicked. And so
- 25:55Speaker 3: I just started making stuff that wasn't on that sleeve
- 25:57Speaker 3: of it. I started really tapping into my experiences, my life.
- 26:01Speaker 3: And yeah, now we up.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Now we up.
- 26:04Speaker 3: We up for sure. For shitty.
- 26:07Speaker 2: So while you're up, it seems like you're tackling all lanes, though.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Podcasting, motivation.
- 26:13Speaker 3: The podcasting actually came as a surprise. Because I don't
- 26:17Speaker 3: fuck with podcasts. I really don't. Now I kind of do.
- 26:22Speaker 3: But I can't really listen to myself for real. Yeah,
- 26:26Speaker 3: I can't listen to you. You know what I'm saying?
- 26:28Speaker 3: I got ADHD. Bad. So all that coming to Jesus
- 26:32Speaker 3: and talking and all that shit, I'll be like, come on, man.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Get to the fucking point. And then sometimes I feel
- 26:37Speaker 3: like everybody got the same little quotes in different ways
- 26:42Speaker 3: on the podcast. Give me an example. I don't know.
- 26:46Speaker 3: Niggas can be like, oh, black men cheat. But black
- 26:49Speaker 3: men cheat because of what they've been through as a youth. Oh,
- 26:52Speaker 3: shut the fuck up. Like, I don't want to hit,
- 26:55Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying?
- 26:56Speaker 2: That's all the cheese you're going to.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Put? I didn't know if you was lactose.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Oh, no, you can hook it up. I was just
- 27:05Speaker 2: expecting a lot.
- 27:06Speaker 3: I didn't know if you was lactose.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Thank you, I appreciate it.
- 27:10Speaker 3: I'm lactose. I'm going to blow it up.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Go easy, go easy. We only got like 20 minutes
- 27:17Speaker 2: with you. Good luck to whoever's hanging out with you.
- 27:19Speaker 3: I'm going to fuck up that bathroom over there. Don't
- 27:20Speaker 3: even worry about it. So then we're going to take this.
- 27:23Speaker 3: Are we good?
- 27:27Speaker 2: Yeah, let me help you up. We don't even have
- 27:29Speaker 2: any more room up in here.
- 27:32Speaker 3: You got it. And like I said, I want to
- 27:40Speaker 3: get it to a..
- 27:41Speaker 2: Okay, so now we're going to get burning hot nachos.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Yeah, so this is, like I said, and then I'm
- 27:47Speaker 3: going to dress it up.
- 27:48Speaker 2: So how do you get.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Into podcasting when it doesn't even like it?
- 27:53Speaker 3: Tabidi, Steve Harvey, like they said, they just suggested it.
- 27:57Speaker 3: And then I was like, okay, I'll do it.
- 28:00Speaker 2: This is after you leaving them?
- 28:02Speaker 3: Nah, I was on the verge of getting the fuck
- 28:04Speaker 3: out of there. But it was just like, like I said,
- 28:07Speaker 3: they always had great suggestions. There's no backing. And so
- 28:10Speaker 3: now I'm able to, I was just like, okay, if
- 28:12Speaker 3: I'm going to do something, I'm going to do it.
- 28:14Speaker 3: to my fullest potential, and I'm not just gonna half-ass it.
- 28:19Speaker 3: The first season was cool, and we had a little,
- 28:23Speaker 3: we had kind of a situation where everything was all good,
- 28:27Speaker 3: and then some folks pulled a rug up underneath me,
- 28:29Speaker 3: so I was like, oh damn, so now season two,
- 28:32Speaker 3: I'm having to find a studio, and then dealing with BS,
- 28:36Speaker 3: with just adversity.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:38Speaker 3: You gotta check on it. Dealing with adversity, and then
- 28:43Speaker 3: with that.
- 28:44Speaker 2: How are you supporting yourself? Are they giving you enough
- 28:46Speaker 2: money to sustain your life?
- 28:47Speaker 3: Who? Who giving money?
- 28:50Speaker 2: How are you supporting yourself?
- 28:52Speaker 3: Gucci, who?
- 28:54Speaker 2: I'm saying, how are you supporting yourself? How do you pay?
- 28:56Speaker 3: Because I'm working, I'm putting skits, I'm getting, I'm putting my,
- 28:59Speaker 3: I'm still consistently putting content out and getting brand deals
- 29:03Speaker 3: and stuff. Okay. So I'm, that's how I'm able to fund.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Let's give it 10 more seconds. I'm having to fund
- 29:12Speaker 3: what I'm trying to get done. You know what I mean?
- 29:15Speaker 3: Paying staff and everything like that. So it was all
- 29:17Speaker 3: really out of pocket. I think we had like, initially
- 29:21Speaker 3: we had a little sorry ass prize pick deal. Yeah,
- 29:25Speaker 3: I said it. Fucking bullshit.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Give me an example of a sorry ass prize pick deal.
- 29:29Speaker 3: They know.
- 29:31Speaker 2: No, the audience doesn't know.
- 29:33Speaker 3: Basically, they want more than what they're paying for.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Okay.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Put some respect on it. You know what I mean?
- 29:40Speaker 3: You see that right there?
- 29:41Speaker 2: Yes, it looks like a... Can everyone see this? Now,
- 29:44Speaker 2: are you going to put... What are you putting on this?
- 29:47Speaker 3: Now, these are your tomatoes.
- 29:52Speaker 2: I don't know if the seal's off on that.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Oh, it's off. These are your tomatoes. We don't want
- 29:59Speaker 3: too much tomatoes.
- 30:00Speaker 2: How was your stomach after you ate this when you
- 30:02Speaker 2: were younger?
- 30:03Speaker 3: Let's think about this. Potato chips. Potatoes. What are potatoes? Fries.
- 30:10Speaker 2: I get it.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Fries have ketchup. Correct? Yes. Yeah, buddy. Get it all
- 30:22Speaker 3: up in there. Let's give it a big dipper. Let's
- 30:29Speaker 3: go splat. Have you seen that dude, Ronnie Coleman? That old...
- 30:34Speaker 3: He's like... I got all that crazy shit. He's like
- 30:37Speaker 3: an old bodybuilder. And he was... He cut up some
- 30:42Speaker 3: potato and put it in the stove. He said, these
- 30:44Speaker 3: ain't french fries. Nigga, them fries.
- 30:49Speaker 2: This looks like a..
- 30:50Speaker 3: My hand is clean.
- 30:52Speaker 2: I saw you. All right. Where is this coming? Is
- 30:55Speaker 2: that the only seasoning you.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Use, really?
- 31:00Speaker 2: You said it's going to be salty?
- 31:02Speaker 3: All right.
- 31:04Speaker 2: What about this?
- 31:05Speaker 3: Oh, no. We don't need no lettuce. We don't need
- 31:07Speaker 3: no lettuce.
- 31:08Speaker 2: All right. Let's just throw all this stuff back here.
- 31:09Speaker 2: All right. Let's try it. Here we go.
- 31:14Speaker 3: That looks good. Let's say our grace. Let's say our grace.
- 31:17Speaker 3: Good food, good meat, good Lord. Let's eat. Let's get it.
- 31:19Speaker 2: Let's get it. Let's try this. Come on.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Yeah. If I go down, you're going down with me.
- 31:28Speaker 3: I'm right there. I'm already there, meet me. Don't beat
- 31:31Speaker 3: me there, meet me there.
- 31:32Speaker 2: Hold on, let's see.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Stop fucking playing with me. You motherfucking right. Don't lie,
- 31:40Speaker 3: don't lie.
- 31:43Speaker 2: I wouldn't personally ever go home and do this, ever.
- 31:46Speaker 2: This is a once and done. And if there's nothing
- 31:53Speaker 2: else in your house, you burnt the bologna pretty bad.
- 31:58Speaker 3: Don't worry about that. It's Cajun.
- 32:03Speaker 2: It is salty.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Y'all get you one of them peppers, though. The one.
- 32:11Speaker 2: That made it salty was the bologna, I think.
- 32:14Speaker 3: I was just trying to really spice it up for y'all.
- 32:18Speaker 2: But I will say this, though.
- 32:20Speaker 1: If you skip over the deli meats and the deli
- 32:23Speaker 1: meats and just put a banana pepper sour cream on
- 32:26Speaker 1: some Doritos..
- 32:28Speaker 2: Try it.
- 32:28Speaker 3: It tastes good. With some shredded cheese?
- 32:30Speaker 2: You barely have shredded cheese on there.
- 32:31Speaker 3: What do you mean? It's underneath. Don't plug out the
- 32:36Speaker 3: ingredients now.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Hold up.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Oh, shit. Hold up.
- 32:41Speaker 2: No, just try it without the meat because the meat
- 32:43Speaker 2: is what's terrible. This meat is a terrible idea.
- 32:46Speaker 3: What about the meat?
- 32:47Speaker 2: No.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Where's the protein? But you like the banana pepper, though,
- 32:55Speaker 3: with the cheese. What are you talking about? Just like that.
- 33:00Speaker 2: That's hitting. Yeah. Just lose all the meat. Lose all
- 33:03Speaker 2: that meat.
- 33:04Speaker 3: This is an 8-year-old to 12-year-old meal, though. Okay.
- 33:08Speaker 2: When was the last time you had this? 10, 12-year-old.
- 33:14Speaker 2: Where'd you get your napkins from?
- 33:17Speaker 3: Over there? I don't even know. I got you.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Ooh, the ketchup tastes good.
- 33:21Speaker 3: Come on, man. The ketchup. I'm trying to cut you
- 33:25Speaker 3: on game. I'm gonna get down.
- 33:27Speaker 2: You eat ketchup on your potato chips?
- 33:28Speaker 3: I'm gonna get down while you live.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Okay. I give this dish like a four.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Or a three. For an 18, 12-year-old, that's a good-ass dish.
- 33:39Speaker 3: That's a good-ass dish.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I felt like the competitor in you took a second
- 33:44Speaker 2: to take it in, and then the light spirit, I'm
- 33:46Speaker 2: gonna clown it, just came right out in true form.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Yeah, it pissed me off for a second.
- 33:52Speaker 2: You looked at me like you were speechless.
- 33:59Speaker 1: But it was funny because it was exactly what you
- 34:01Speaker 1: said how you are you just did oh yeah.
- 34:08Speaker 2: I said it was a certified for.
- 34:10Speaker 3: I don't know if I'm hungry.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Have a seat what advice would you give to other
- 34:19Speaker 2: young people trying to get in the game Or just
- 34:23Speaker 2: people in general trying to just switch paths.
- 34:26Speaker 3: I would say even whatever path you're going, even if
- 34:28Speaker 3: you have to switch, don't change who you are. Like,
- 34:32Speaker 3: I think the moment I got more honest and true
- 34:36Speaker 3: with myself, even like when I played football, I felt
- 34:38Speaker 3: like I had to like, especially in the NFL, even
- 34:41Speaker 3: in college, I had to be like this quote unquote,
- 34:45Speaker 3: you know, you got to do everything this way, blah, blah, blah,
- 34:47Speaker 3: instead of being myself. My true personality, which is Showing
- 34:51Speaker 3: me that if I'm being my true self, it's going
- 34:53Speaker 3: to get me in more doors than none. You know
- 34:56Speaker 3: what I mean? I think staying true to myself in any,
- 35:00Speaker 3: or staying true to yourself in any room you in,
- 35:04Speaker 3: that goes a long way. Because like you can, I'm
- 35:06Speaker 3: starting to realize I'm getting deals based off just how
- 35:09Speaker 3: I treat people in the room. Or opportunities. But that's
- 35:13Speaker 3: just like winning the room over. You know what I mean?
- 35:17Speaker 3: And I'm just being where my feet are, being present
- 35:20Speaker 3: wherever I'm at. and owning that moment in that time.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Okay. You don't plan too far ahead?
- 35:27Speaker 3: Oh, no. Hell no. You mean like scheduling?
- 35:30Speaker 2: No, not scheduling. Your schedule's already tight. You have a
- 35:33Speaker 2: full resume here.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Yeah, scheduling?
- 35:36Speaker 2: I'm saying strategic planning.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Oh, like goal setting? Oh, I'm going to set some goals.
- 35:42Speaker 3: But am I going to set a schedule?
- 35:44Speaker 2: No, I don't think just based on these nachos. I
- 35:48Speaker 2: go with the flow. Okay.
- 35:50Speaker 3: But it's also, it helps me when I'm performing too.
- 35:53Speaker 3: I don't ever want to be, I don't ever want
- 35:57Speaker 3: to follow all the rules. Because if I do that,
- 35:59Speaker 3: then I'm not being, then who are they paying for?
- 36:01Speaker 3: The rule book or the dude who, you know what
- 36:03Speaker 3: I'm saying, is creating his own book?
- 36:06Speaker 2: Right there. Do you believe it's important to diversify your portfolio?
- 36:14Speaker 2: Is that why you're wearing so many hats?
- 36:16Speaker 3: Oh, for sure. And I got that from my dad though.
- 36:19Speaker 3: He was just like, look, man, we got to get
- 36:21Speaker 3: in all these. He said, you going to do this?
- 36:23Speaker 3: But he's told me that since a kid. You got
- 36:25Speaker 3: to know how to talk to every genre. You got
- 36:29Speaker 3: to walk in every room and be able to hold
- 36:33Speaker 3: that conversation. Okay. You can go back home and go
- 36:38Speaker 3: to the hood or go with your hood friends. Because
- 36:41Speaker 3: I didn't grow up in the hood. But my sports
- 36:44Speaker 3: and stuff was in the hood. So people might be like, oh, Luke,
- 36:47Speaker 3: you should be out here, blah, blah, blah. I'm like, Yeah, nigga,
- 36:50Speaker 3: I am not from there. And I'm okay with saying that.
- 36:53Speaker 2: But..
- 36:54Speaker 3: Why?
- 36:54Speaker 2: Would you say that you were more middle class while
- 36:56Speaker 2: you say that?
- 36:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I see my parents kind of... I would say
- 36:59Speaker 3: I saw my parents go from not much to us
- 37:05Speaker 3: going middle class. Me and my mom went from one
- 37:07Speaker 3: bedroom apartment to a nice-ass townhouse in D.C. Which is
- 37:11Speaker 3: damn near... I'm about to pay that off for her.
- 37:13Speaker 3: You know what I mean? Yeah, shout out to the content.
- 37:17Speaker 3: What are you talking about? But yeah, so it's just,
- 37:20Speaker 3: it's stuff like that. It's like, I seen those type
- 37:23Speaker 3: of levels that they achieved. Even with my dad, we
- 37:26Speaker 3: went from apartment to townhouse and like now big house.
- 37:29Speaker 3: So it was like, okay, we, I actually saw the
- 37:32Speaker 3: trajectory in real time. It wasn't like I was just born.
- 37:35Speaker 3: It's like, oh, this big ass house.
- 37:37Speaker 2: Do you think that also showed you that anything was possible?
- 37:39Speaker 2: It's hard work.
- 37:41Speaker 3: Cause they didn't just get it by sitting on their ass.
- 37:43Speaker 3: My mom was literally going from all the way to,
- 37:48Speaker 3: We're going from Northeast D.C. to all the way, she's
- 37:50Speaker 3: going all the way to the Pentagon, past the Pentagon,
- 37:54Speaker 3: to work. Dropped me off all the way in Georgetown
- 37:57Speaker 3: and go all the way there. She's a real deal hustler.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Same as my dad. He drives all across the damn world, country,
- 38:08Speaker 3: with his business as well.
- 38:10Speaker 1: It seems like what you're saying is being true to
- 38:13Speaker 1: yourself is important. What do you say to the people
- 38:15Speaker 1: that are still trying to figure out who they are?
- 38:18Speaker 3: Stop lying to yourself. And what I mean by that
- 38:21Speaker 3: is tap in, have some passion of whatever you're going
- 38:24Speaker 3: to do. If I just sit up here and be like,
- 38:26Speaker 3: you know what, man, I got $ 20, 000. Shit. Let's get
- 38:31Speaker 3: some of these trucks. I don't know what the fuck
- 38:33Speaker 3: I'm doing. I have no passion in that. That actually
- 38:37Speaker 3: happened to me. In the league, at one point in
- 38:41Speaker 3: the league, when my money started really going up, I
- 38:45Speaker 3: listened to my dad and my uncle about some fucking trucks.
- 38:48Speaker 3: I said, what the fuck are we doing? We in
- 38:51Speaker 3: this warehouse looking like Tommy and Ghost. None of that
- 38:55Speaker 3: shit worked.
- 38:56Speaker 2: None of it.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Because nobody knew what they was doing. There was no
- 38:59Speaker 3: real passion is what I'm saying. You know what I mean?
- 39:00Speaker 3: So it's like, if you're going to feed into anything,
- 39:03Speaker 3: feed into what you're doing and expand that. You know
- 39:06Speaker 3: what I'm saying? Like, the money I make from this,
- 39:10Speaker 3: I'm going to reinvest that into what I'm doing to
- 39:13Speaker 3: expand to another level. I want to. I was shooting skits,
- 39:19Speaker 3: propping my damn phone up. I had my three-year-old daughter
- 39:22Speaker 3: holding the phone to record me at one point. You
- 39:25Speaker 3: know what I'm saying? Then we go from that to
- 39:28Speaker 3: now we can rent a nice little set or get
- 39:31Speaker 3: these props to make it more realistic, more relatable. That's reinvesting.
- 39:37Speaker 3: You know what I mean? Some of these skits, they're not,
- 39:39Speaker 3: these skits ain't free no more. But it's not going
- 39:44Speaker 3: unnoticed because the viewership and the traction that it gets
- 39:48Speaker 3: and how people share it and talk about it they
- 39:50Speaker 3: seeing that effort and they appreciate it.
- 39:53Speaker 2: What can you tell me about Freelance?
- 39:55Speaker 3: Freelance is, it's a pilot that was just featured in
- 40:00Speaker 3: Sundance Film Festival. I never knew nothing about Sundance until
- 40:04Speaker 3: about a couple months ago. I was in Utah. My
- 40:08Speaker 3: only niggas in Utah was Car Malone and Michael Jordan.
- 40:13Speaker 3: And now I'm Lou Young. So I feel pretty proud
- 40:16Speaker 3: about that. I was out there. It was like the
- 40:19Speaker 3: 25th fifth or 20th anniversary of A Little Miss Sunshine,
- 40:22Speaker 3: that movie? Yes. That's one of my favorite movies. And
- 40:25Speaker 3: I didn't know that. So I didn't know that it
- 40:27Speaker 3: was going to be their anniversary. But it got picked
- 40:30Speaker 3: up at Sundance.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Okay.
- 40:32Speaker 3: And then blew up into what it was and people
- 40:35Speaker 3: were in the Oscars and everything like that. But Freelance
- 40:38Speaker 3: is by the Turner Brothers. So I got with them
- 40:40Speaker 3: around 2021 and they were just fans of my work,
- 40:44Speaker 3: DMing me and got me my first big brand deal
- 40:47Speaker 3: with Nike. Wow. Okay. So it was Nike and they
- 40:55Speaker 3: had this campaign called Free Lunch and another campaign, but
- 40:59Speaker 3: that was the first one. And then they just wanted
- 41:02Speaker 3: me to play one character. And then they was trying
- 41:04Speaker 3: to figure out other people to play characters, but the
- 41:07Speaker 3: budget was tight. But I was like, look, fuck them.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Just give me the money and I'll play multiple characters.
- 41:13Speaker 2: And they tested you out and then it worked out?
- 41:16Speaker 3: Yeah. Yep. So then from that, we just built a
- 41:19Speaker 3: bond and it's like we family now. They mom, they dad,
- 41:23Speaker 3: they look at me, that's like mom and pop. So
- 41:25Speaker 3: when I'm on the set, I'd have my daughter on
- 41:27Speaker 3: the set and everything like that. So from that to
- 41:31Speaker 3: fast forward now, we did this thing, the freelance, and
- 41:36Speaker 3: it's kind of blowing up now. So hopefully they get
- 41:39Speaker 3: picked up, like really picked up.
- 41:41Speaker 2: Okay.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:42Speaker 2: And where else can, what else can people keep up
- 41:45Speaker 2: with everything regarding Luluyung?
- 41:47Speaker 3: Like I said, the Lou Young Show, that's every Monday
- 41:50Speaker 3: at 12 p.m. on YouTube. I'm also on all the
- 41:53Speaker 3: audio shits, whatever the fuck, you know, the podcast stuff.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Check it out if you want. Shout out to my
- 41:59Speaker 3: truck drivers, man. They be tuning in and they be like, man, Lou, man,
- 42:03Speaker 3: I be on that.
- 42:03Speaker 2: Road, bro.
- 42:04Speaker 3: You be getting me through some real shit, bro. So
- 42:06Speaker 3: I fuck with them. Shout out to my boy Trey Day.
- 42:09Speaker 3: You need to get Trey Day on here. Okay. Oh, yeah.
- 42:13Speaker 2: You think he gonna throw down something better?
- 42:14Speaker 3: I don't know, but he'll show you how to eat
- 42:15Speaker 3: a motherfucking wing.
- 42:17Speaker 2: Okay.
- 42:18Speaker 3: Yeah, you ain't never seen a nigga make a wing
- 42:20Speaker 3: turn into a butterfly. But yeah, Trey is my co-host now.
- 42:24Speaker 3: So yeah, we really getting it. And we just building
- 42:28Speaker 3: the show, Coach Sluice Corner. We revamping that, so that
- 42:31Speaker 3: should be coming. Be looking for that and kind of
- 42:34Speaker 3: towards that baseball or summer of going into ball camp
- 42:41Speaker 3: and stuff like that for football. All my skits and stuff.
- 42:45Speaker 3: I'm trying to think of what else. Oh, man, Country
- 42:46Speaker 3: Wayne movie. Which one? Yeah, I'm in a Country Wayne movie.
- 42:50Speaker 2: The one that just dropped? I think you just released it.
- 42:52Speaker 3: It's a movie that's supposed to be released in May
- 42:56Speaker 3: at a fucking film festival or something. I was nominated
- 43:01Speaker 3: for the 2026 NAACP Award.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Oh, I saw that. Congratulations.
- 43:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't win, but it's all good.
- 43:08Speaker 2: Congrats.
- 43:09Speaker 3: But yeah, that was cool. I got to take my
- 43:11Speaker 3: daughter to that. That was dope. My daughter, like... It
- 43:15Speaker 3: was like I took a hood girl to a real
- 43:17Speaker 3: prestige event. She was eating every fucking thing. And the
- 43:21Speaker 3: main thing, I was like, you know what? We went
- 43:23Speaker 3: to eat before because I didn't want her to look
- 43:25Speaker 3: like she hadn't ate all day. Man, she got there
- 43:27Speaker 3: and she was like, to the salad, to everything. And
- 43:30Speaker 3: she just had a good time. She saw actors and
- 43:32Speaker 3: actresses that her mom shows her mom like and shows
- 43:35Speaker 3: I like. But that experience right there, I was like, damn, okay.
- 43:39Speaker 3: This is what it's all about. And just exposing her
- 43:41Speaker 3: to some good things. And it's like, I'm stealing time.
- 43:44Speaker 3: Even with my busy schedule, I'm able to steal time
- 43:47Speaker 3: and be present with my daughter. Yeah. So I'm big
- 43:50Speaker 3: on that.
- 43:50Speaker 2: And it's not hard. Is it hard juggling all of it?
- 43:53Speaker 3: It's very hard. Okay. Yeah. So it's like, sometimes nights
- 43:57Speaker 3: are a little tougher than most, but.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Do you have, do you develop a consistent routine with her?
- 44:02Speaker 2: Something that you're just diehard committed to no matter what?
- 44:05Speaker 2: That can't be ignored?
- 44:07Speaker 3: I guess nothing can trump that. I would say probably like, okay,
- 44:13Speaker 3: beginning her first day of school every year, I'm there
- 44:17Speaker 3: to make sure she go to her first day of school.
- 44:19Speaker 3: We do the thing. We take pictures and everything. We
- 44:21Speaker 3: do the whole vibe. It's a lot of things, but
- 44:24Speaker 3: it's ritual stuff. Every year we do this, her lemonade stand.
- 44:28Speaker 3: She makes money for real. I don't know if they're
- 44:30Speaker 3: trying to give her extra money to... One time a
- 44:34Speaker 3: motherfucker tried to take a picture with me and not
- 44:36Speaker 3: pay for the lemonade. I said, nigga, you better pay
- 44:38Speaker 3: for that lemonade. Good. Yeah. We got a lot of things.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Then she's into the social media and stuff now. Okay.
- 44:45Speaker 3: She wants to get into the YouTube and stuff now.
- 44:47Speaker 3: Just slow walking. She's doing her gymnastics. She just got,
- 44:50Speaker 3: she was, she's just placing the top 10 in the state.
- 44:53Speaker 3: She's nine years old. Yeah. She's placed top 10 in
- 44:55Speaker 3: the state. Okay. And them little hoes was hating on
- 44:57Speaker 3: her too. Oh, he can't call. Oh, but they was
- 44:59Speaker 3: hating on her too. They was hatin'. They was hatin'
- 45:02Speaker 3: for sure. They was hatin'. Her mom, I was gettin' faced.
- 45:05Speaker 3: They was hatin'. Oh, nah, I ain't gon' talk about it,
- 45:07Speaker 3: but they was hatin'. They was fuckin' with her, and
- 45:09Speaker 3: it was just one event. Man, if she would've did
- 45:12Speaker 3: what she normally do on this event, on the bar,
- 45:14Speaker 3: that's her best shit. We practiced that all the time.
- 45:16Speaker 3: They was fuckin' with her. And she fell or something,
- 45:19Speaker 3: and she had to redo it. So her score was low,
- 45:22Speaker 3: but she got first place in two or three events
- 45:24Speaker 3: that she normally don't place that high in. So I
- 45:27Speaker 3: was like, oh, you bitch. You little hoes. Okay, it's okay.
- 45:31Speaker 3: Don't worry. But yeah.
- 45:33Speaker 2: All right.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Thank you so much for spending time with us and
- 45:36Speaker 1: cooking this classic that will probably never be eaten ever again.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. No. I think I'm getting sinuses right now.
- 45:45Speaker 3: But it's all good, though. All right.
- 45:47Speaker 2: Thank you all for tuning in. Peace out.
