- 1:02Speaker 3: Fridays we park the more serious topics in favor of

- 1:08Speaker 3: can expect entertaining questions from our community, the odd money
- 1:12Speaker 3: related dilemma, and insightful yaps with our two favorite podcast
- 1:16Speaker 3: co hosts, Miss Bech Sayed and Miss Jessicci. Now, if
- 1:21Speaker 3: you aren't already acquainted, Miss Bech Sayed is a casual worker,
- 1:25Speaker 3: part time holiday and lover of ceramics, and Jess is
- 1:29Speaker 3: a full time partnership scal part time ballerina, and linen.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Sheets enthusiast fun.
- 1:36Speaker 3: Together, they will bring money, wins and broke tips from
- 1:39Speaker 3: the community because together, knowledge is power. My friends and
- 1:43Speaker 3: welcome to Friday Drinks. Did you like my little intro?
- 1:46Speaker 4: Yes?
- 1:47Speaker 3: I like that we have a heap of new friends,
- 1:49Speaker 3: and I was like, we probably should introduce you. Oh true,
- 1:53Speaker 3: you love ceramics, you love linen.
- 1:56Speaker 4: It makes sense.
- 1:57Speaker 5: That's so cute and everyone's in a while. We can
- 1:59Speaker 5: just change it up and make it so funny and random. Yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 5: I'm onto it, cooky girl.
- 2:05Speaker 3: But someone messaged me and they're like Beck and Jess
- 2:08Speaker 3: they never seem to have, like, you know, really strong
- 2:11Speaker 3: financial opinions.
- 2:12Speaker 4: And I was like, yeah, that's my job.
- 2:14Speaker 3: We've got Lynnen lover's queen here and ceramics queen and sorry,
- 2:19Speaker 3: really smart women, but you're not the finance expert.
- 2:22Speaker 2: No no, and we don't claim to be.
- 2:25Speaker 3: They bring the vibes anyway. I've been informed that this
- 2:29Speaker 3: week's dilemma is a little bit peculiar. In fact, this
- 2:33Speaker 3: person has come into a sum of money and is
- 2:35Speaker 3: asking for the best way to invest it. And the
- 2:40Speaker 3: community has also shared a pretty stellar DM with us
- 2:43Speaker 3: concerning debt and whether it's best to pay some off
- 2:46Speaker 3: and park the others and what you should do in
- 2:48Speaker 3: that situation. But before all of that, you know what
- 2:51Speaker 3: time it is. I'm keeping this normal. It's time for
- 2:55Speaker 3: a five star review. This one comes from Katie, who
- 2:58Speaker 3: writes the pod. Guys, I've learned so much from just
- 3:03Speaker 3: listening on my walks or in the car, and it
- 3:05Speaker 3: never feels preachy or overwhelming.
- 3:07Speaker 4: We should try harder.
- 3:08Speaker 3: We definitely one I keep coming back to every single week.
- 3:14Speaker 4: I love it's nice so much, Katie. We need to
- 3:16Speaker 4: try harder to be preachier.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 3:20Speaker 3: This so sweet, exactly, and thank you for sharing all
- 3:22Speaker 3: those moments with us and all of the moments in between. Katie,
- 3:25Speaker 3: we are so glad to hear that those I guess
- 3:27Speaker 3: money facts are coming in loud and clear. My friends,
- 3:30Speaker 3: if you've got a review to share with us but
- 3:32Speaker 3: haven't written it yet, now is your time to shine.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Please get typing and share your five star reviews with
- 3:38Speaker 3: us on Apple podcast or Spotify or wherever. Honestly, we
- 3:42Speaker 3: read them out. If we get them in a DM,
- 3:44Speaker 3: we read them out. If we get them in bex dms,
- 3:46Speaker 3: I'll take them. However, you will give them, and we
- 3:49Speaker 3: love hearing from you. Plus you might get a shout
- 3:51Speaker 3: out in next week's episode. But before we get into it,
- 3:55Speaker 3: let's go to a really quick break. All right, guys,
- 4:01Speaker 3: we aren't back beck. Yes, it is time for our
- 4:05Speaker 3: question of the week. I love this.
- 4:07Speaker 4: We put a call out to our Facebook.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Community to share their best non finance related questions for us,
- 4:12Speaker 3: and they never ever disappoint. This week's question is quite
- 4:16Speaker 3: polarizing in certain circles, but I'm sure we can bridge
- 4:19Speaker 3: the divide here.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Are you ready chalk mint?
- 4:23Speaker 3: Is it a refreshing flavor sensation or toothpaste showing up
- 4:27Speaker 3: in your ice cream?
- 4:27Speaker 5: On it?
- 4:29Speaker 2: Hah?
- 4:31Speaker 4: I don't mind it. What I do like is a
- 4:34Speaker 4: min slice the chocolate bestia.
- 4:37Speaker 5: What I was going to say is like I would
- 4:38Speaker 5: never pick up a chalk mint ice cream. Is my
- 4:40Speaker 5: ice cream a choice? But I don't mind the mint SLI.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Don't mind hit them in the fridge. The mint slice, Yes,
- 4:46Speaker 4: you have to put them in the fridge.
- 4:47Speaker 3: It's that's so oh you both need canceling in slice
- 4:53Speaker 3: and carrying crowns.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Both live in the fridge.
- 4:55Speaker 5: Okay, but the caramel, no, it's chewy. I guess so
- 5:00Speaker 5: I like's a little soft and melty. Yeah, yeah, I
- 5:04Speaker 5: like a little soft too, Personally exactly the same. I'm
- 5:07Speaker 5: going to go mint sliced biscuit. I would actively.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Crave one of those, But I've never craved a mint
- 5:14Speaker 4: chocolate outside of that, and that includes really chocolate ice cream,
- 5:18Speaker 4: because like, why if I'm going to get a dessert
- 5:22Speaker 4: an ice cream, I'm not that that's kind of silly.
- 5:27Speaker 4: There's a million others you're.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Not going to go with a mint wait, hold on,
- 5:30Speaker 3: hold on, hold on. We're not all going to the
- 5:32Speaker 3: movies and getting a mint chalk top controversial opinion. I
- 5:35Speaker 3: don't like a chalk chop for the movies.
- 5:37Speaker 4: I'm saying I.
- 5:38Speaker 6: Don't like it.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Right, so messy to eat, and I why I'm messy
- 5:48Speaker 2: to eat? The chocolate falls off.
- 5:50Speaker 5: I'm a messy you like I just if I'm eating
- 5:52Speaker 5: an ice cream in the dark, I'm coming out with
- 5:53Speaker 5: ice cream.
- 5:54Speaker 2: On me, I hear. And beyond that, I hate people
- 6:00Speaker 2: prinkling the.
- 6:00Speaker 5: Wrapper, Like if you're in acting, you'd better have opened
- 6:03Speaker 5: that before the previews and started.
- 6:04Speaker 2: If the movie started and.
- 6:05Speaker 5: You're unwrapping your chok top, I'm internally screaming at you.
- 6:10Speaker 5: I would have never turned around to do it, but
- 6:12Speaker 5: on the inside, I am that'stic at you.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Yes, okay, So my hierarchy of chok top flavors, please
- 6:21Speaker 3: min chuck Chip at the top, boison berry bottom.
- 6:25Speaker 2: No see, I was gonna say the only one I
- 6:26Speaker 2: would eat would be boisonberry.
- 6:27Speaker 4: No Boisoberry at the bottom.
- 6:28Speaker 3: And you know I said that because I knew you
- 6:31Speaker 3: would jump in and send poison berry was your favorite.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Because this woman, if she gets an ice cream from McDonald's,
- 6:37Speaker 3: her choice is strawberry Sunday.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Okay, well that's crazy.
- 6:41Speaker 2: I fear that.
- 6:45Speaker 4: She wasn't around. That was Georgia King. Wow, Georgia King.
- 6:48Speaker 3: And I tried to boycott the Strawberry Sunday but you're
- 6:51Speaker 3: Caromel No oh yes.
- 6:53Speaker 2: No, I don't see.
- 6:54Speaker 5: You can't even talk to jets right now because those
- 6:58Speaker 5: are both insane chocolate Sunday. So convinced that I was right,
- 7:05Speaker 5: I put it on our incidence is years ago. I
- 7:07Speaker 5: pulled it on our Instagram and I said, guys, like,
- 7:08Speaker 5: which is the superior flavor? Obviously Strawberry? Like three percent
- 7:12Speaker 5: of people agreed with me, and I was it. I
- 7:15Speaker 5: haven't been here from the start.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I think you remember Strawberry Sunday Gate because it went
- 7:19Speaker 3: on for a couple of weeks. Yeah, and then when
- 7:22Speaker 3: I was pregnant with Campbell, I had to eat my
- 7:24Speaker 3: words because that's all I wanted to eat.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Interesting.
- 7:27Speaker 3: And now I'm not pregnant, I am back to usual
- 7:29Speaker 3: programming and that's crazy, Jessica Hosty.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Anybody or my Strawberry girls out there? We write no,
- 7:36Speaker 2: we don't know.
- 7:38Speaker 4: Probably zero people that are listening to me, like not
- 7:40Speaker 4: on c We also had a.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Similar debate coincidentally in the Zella office last week because
- 7:48Speaker 3: I went to the supermarket and realized they have a
- 7:50Speaker 3: whole heap of different flavor oreos and so I bought
- 7:54Speaker 3: a whole heap of different packets of oreos for the
- 7:56Speaker 3: team to try.
- 7:58Speaker 4: Did you know they do a sour patch kids oreo.
- 8:00Speaker 2: I don't think I'm into that.
- 8:02Speaker 4: I'm not into It smelt like lime and it tasted
- 8:05Speaker 4: like sherbet.
- 8:06Speaker 2: No thank you.
- 8:07Speaker 4: But they had a chok mint one.
- 8:09Speaker 2: I can see that being good.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Yeah, And so I brought it into.
- 8:12Speaker 3: The office and I said, guys, these were a dollar
- 8:14Speaker 3: sixty at Woolies.
- 8:16Speaker 4: So I bought all of the flavors and I brought
- 8:19Speaker 4: them to you for a taste test. Yeah, okay.
- 8:21Speaker 3: And then a lot of them were like, where are
- 8:23Speaker 3: the normal oreos? And I was like, I did not
- 8:25Speaker 3: buy normal oreos because I found chok mint ones. So
- 8:28Speaker 3: I got two sleeves of chalk.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Milk once because obviously everyone's gonna want them.
- 8:34Speaker 3: No, I got canceled. I nearly got kicked out of
- 8:37Speaker 3: my own office. People were refusing to try them. The
- 8:40Speaker 3: people that did try them spat them out like dramatic.
- 8:44Speaker 3: They were so dramatic at the originals.
- 8:46Speaker 5: If you're getting all of them, sorry, okay, I think
- 8:48Speaker 5: if you've got ten fun flavors, do you need the
- 8:51Speaker 5: plane on Yeah, that's what color cleanser controversial and.
- 8:55Speaker 4: There's a Karra milk flavor.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Anyway, So you're just to be clear. You're also team
- 9:02Speaker 2: pro mint ice.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Cream and pro miin ice cream. In fact, I love
- 9:06Speaker 3: the cheaper the better. Like I don't want fancy chalk
- 9:09Speaker 3: Min ice cream. It has to be is it like
- 9:11Speaker 3: buller or in the red Tub?
- 9:13Speaker 4: I don't know what one that is.
- 9:14Speaker 3: I think that's the superior one for me. Yeah, so
- 9:17Speaker 3: chok min ice cream with ice magic on top, because
- 9:21Speaker 3: I want that choc top experience.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Jessica, at home, I do hard chocolate.
- 9:27Speaker 4: I just don't like it with a you gonna have
- 9:29Speaker 4: a fudge. You gonna have a fudge chocolate Minfretto delicious.
- 9:33Speaker 3: I gotta say, do you know what I just I
- 9:35Speaker 3: don't know why we're so different, Like I just like
- 9:38Speaker 3: I don't know if I can see past these differences.
- 9:41Speaker 2: We you know what, all unique perspectives are beautiful.
- 9:44Speaker 4: It's beautiful.
- 9:46Speaker 3: I believe the community has their answer on what our
- 9:50Speaker 3: views on chalk Mian ice cream are. And if there
- 9:53Speaker 3: is a question that you are dying for us to
- 9:55Speaker 3: answer on the pod, please send us a DM because
- 9:57Speaker 3: we cannot wait to hear it now It's just GOTTRICI.
- 10:01Speaker 4: I'm curious. Does our community have anything to celebrate with
- 10:04Speaker 4: us this week? Perhaps some money wins.
- 10:06Speaker 2: You know that they do.
- 10:07Speaker 5: There were so many good ones in the thread this week. Firstly,
- 10:10Speaker 5: Natasha said, I put an offer for an apartment fifteen
- 10:13Speaker 5: thousand dollars under the starting prize and it was accepted.
- 10:17Speaker 5: Hopefully this is the start to more price drops for
- 10:19Speaker 5: people looking to get into their first homes. Adore really
- 10:22Speaker 5: really exciting. If you don't ask, you don't get literally,
- 10:25Speaker 5: then I've got a money in from Estelle, who said
- 10:27Speaker 5: I deleted Uber Eats a couple of months ago. Cut
- 10:29Speaker 5: to last weekend, I was sick on the couch with
- 10:31Speaker 5: a cold and I needed a delivery. Upon reinstalling the app,
- 10:34Speaker 5: I got an offer for twenty dollars off of my
- 10:36Speaker 5: first order over twenty five stop cheap dinner coming for
- 10:40Speaker 5: it for me.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Amazing love that.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Maybe just try Delinien. See what happened.
- 10:43Speaker 4: I told you guys, you need to threaten your apps.
- 10:45Speaker 4: You need to threaten your subscription.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and then they'll come through the goods.
- 10:49Speaker 5: Then I've got money in from Angela, who said she
- 10:51Speaker 5: got one hundred dollars back from Irong Bank.
- 10:54Speaker 2: They do cash back on eligible utility bills money.
- 10:57Speaker 5: She had no idea, so if anyone's with Ing Bank, okay,
- 11:00Speaker 5: I would be looking into that. Kate said she's been
- 11:03Speaker 5: stacking the end of financial year sales with redeeming points
- 11:06Speaker 5: vouchers and using shot back and getting just a huge
- 11:08Speaker 5: money wins all round. Then I've got a money win
- 11:11Speaker 5: from Ariel who said, let crusay it was thirty percent
- 11:14Speaker 5: off on Meyer, shot Back had nine percent, Westpac had
- 11:16Speaker 5: additional bonuses, and she had an extra seventy dollars.
- 11:19Speaker 4: Cash backed stop it. She's stacky, I have stacky.
- 11:22Speaker 5: Staky said it pays to keep things on your wish list,
- 11:25Speaker 5: monitor the sales, and wait to stack things up. Hell yeah,
- 11:28Speaker 5: that's a very very impressive. Well done, Aeriel. And then
- 11:31Speaker 5: lastly this week, I've got a money win from Belinda,
- 11:33Speaker 5: who said, I listened to the end of Financial year
- 11:36Speaker 5: episode where you mentioned you can claim your ongoing financial
- 11:39Speaker 5: advisor costs.
- 11:40Speaker 4: You can yeh.
- 11:40Speaker 5: She didn't know that, so she made an amendment to
- 11:42Speaker 5: the last two years worth of tax returns and got
- 11:45Speaker 5: a refund from the eightier.
- 11:46Speaker 4: Of seven hundred and five dollars.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Stop, how good is that? And then Belinda shout out Queen.
- 11:51Speaker 5: She's always in the Facebook group. I see her commenting
- 11:53Speaker 5: all the time. Someone said, ooh, can you tell me more?
- 11:55Speaker 2: And she goes. Listen to the end of Financial Year
- 11:57Speaker 2: Tax Taps, episode twenty seven minutes in Oh my God,
- 12:00Speaker 2: drop snaps for Belinda. She's out here doing the good work.
- 12:06Speaker 4: Thank you, Belinda. I'm gonna need that too, all right.
- 12:09Speaker 3: I feel like that is a really good rap of
- 12:11Speaker 3: the community this week. Beck Every time I think, damn
- 12:14Speaker 3: things are hard out there, our community comes through with
- 12:17Speaker 3: a broke tip that just brings me a little bit
- 12:18Speaker 3: of hope. What tips can you share with us this week?
- 12:22Speaker 4: Okay, So I'm so sorry, Jess. My broke tip is
- 12:24Speaker 4: going to sound very similar. This one's from Yasmin, though,
- 12:27Speaker 4: so Yasmin said, and it is crazy. I didn't know
- 12:29Speaker 4: you could do this, yasm said. I edited my tax
- 12:31Speaker 4: return from twenty twenty three to twenty twenty four as
- 12:34Speaker 4: I realized it with things I could have claimed but didn't.
- 12:36Speaker 4: On Wednesday, I received over five hundred dollars in my
- 12:39Speaker 4: bank account. And so this is a really good reminder
- 12:42Speaker 4: that because I did not know you could do this.
- 12:44Speaker 4: So if there's anyone out there who's like, oh I
- 12:46Speaker 4: didn't know, I could claim that you can go back
- 12:48Speaker 4: and a mend it.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:49Speaker 4: Hell, that's incredible. And the next one comes from Kirston,
- 12:53Speaker 4: who says I was spending way too much money on
- 12:55Speaker 4: my ice long blacks after many US trips and seeing
- 12:58Speaker 4: the big bottles of cold brew. I'd been waiting for
- 13:00Speaker 4: something similar over here. Oh, it's it here now it's yeah,
- 13:04Speaker 4: we're always now selling coffee shots by the goon bag.
- 13:07Speaker 4: That's one point five dead us one point five leaders
- 13:10Speaker 4: for eighteen dollars seconds to make before work. Just adding
- 13:13Speaker 4: ice and cold water to the coffee. Massive money win
- 13:16Speaker 4: for me.
- 13:16Speaker 5: Stop it.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I just loved a little mixy.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Yeah, Like every time we've been to America, which is
- 13:22Speaker 3: kind of crazy that we say every time we've been
- 13:24Speaker 3: to America, Jess, I go to the supermarket and we
- 13:28Speaker 3: get like breakfast items so that we can have breakfast
- 13:30Speaker 3: in our hotel room or at our apartment or whatever.
- 13:32Speaker 3: And I'm always buying the like pre done like Starbucks
- 13:38Speaker 3: coffees to mix with milk in.
- 13:40Speaker 4: The room because they're good.
- 13:42Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, well now they have it here in
- 13:44Speaker 3: goon bag form. I don't know if I can get
- 13:46Speaker 3: around the Australia.
- 13:48Speaker 4: Australia. It's a beautiful box and you won't even see it,
- 13:51Speaker 4: you know when you pop the tip out and you yeah,
- 13:53Speaker 4: I do because freddy Lexia makes you sexyer? Do you
- 13:56Speaker 4: really think that I have come from like classy upbringing? No,
- 14:00Speaker 4: goombag's also gorgeous color.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Yeah, and you can blow them up as decoration when
- 14:05Speaker 3: you're done, Yes, exactly, in a little cushion exactly.
- 14:08Speaker 4: And then my one. Have you guys heard of the
- 14:10Speaker 4: coin collector? Well, I'll tell you I have.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Yes, I know am on You and I are on
- 14:17Speaker 3: the same like wavelength this week on basically everything.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Yeah, it's so weird.
- 14:23Speaker 2: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 14:24Speaker 4: So on Instagram, his handle is coin Collecting underscore Detecting.
- 14:29Speaker 4: So this guy searches for coins that are worth more
- 14:31Speaker 4: than their original value. Some coins are only worth a
- 14:34Speaker 4: few dollars more, but it's still more than you initially had,
- 14:36Speaker 4: so he will kind of like go to the bank
- 14:38Speaker 4: and exchange ten dollar note for ten one dollar coins
- 14:41Speaker 4: and the little rolly thing.
- 14:42Speaker 3: He makes fears if you're flipping through the coins and
- 14:45Speaker 3: his knowledge is insane, Jess.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Yeah, and like every coin to like one dollar, fifty cents,
- 14:50Speaker 4: et cetera. And then he will kind of like be like, oh, see,
- 14:53Speaker 4: so what you're looking for here? And he'll go to
- 14:55Speaker 4: check his little list and be like this coin is
- 14:58Speaker 4: worth two dollars eighty four and it's like one doll
- 15:01Speaker 4: eighty for more. But it's like that was once one dollar,
- 15:03Speaker 4: now it's worth two dollars, you know, I mean cool.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Like you've doubled your money, doubled your money. Then how
- 15:07Speaker 2: do you like where do you sell.
- 15:08Speaker 4: The well in the coin selling websites?
- 15:10Speaker 7: Yes?
- 15:11Speaker 4: Or eBay?
- 15:12Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 15:12Speaker 4: Yeah, that's great because I'm trying to feel that too. Yeah,
- 15:15Speaker 4: you can sell them on eBay.
- 15:16Speaker 2: They're a market to buy the two dollar coin that's
- 15:19Speaker 2: three dollars.
- 15:20Speaker 3: There is And it's kind of crazy because like there's
- 15:22Speaker 3: this like niche community of coin collectors who want the
- 15:26Speaker 3: one dollar coin with the slight defect and like really yes,
- 15:30Speaker 3: and like it's so funny because I watched these videos
- 15:33Speaker 3: at three am when I'm breastfeeding and he flipped through
- 15:37Speaker 3: the coin. He goes, Yep, that one's from nineteen seventy four.
- 15:39Speaker 3: That won't be worth anything. This one, this one, look,
- 15:41Speaker 3: that's nineteen sixty three, and like it's crazy. And by
- 15:45Speaker 3: the way, nineteen sixty three, we didn't even have that coin,
- 15:47Speaker 3: so I'm making that up.
- 15:49Speaker 4: But you know what I mean.
- 15:50Speaker 3: So the coins and then he's like, oh, this was
- 15:53Speaker 3: a centennial coin and I'm like, a what, Like, yeah,
- 15:56Speaker 3: it's just really interesting.
- 15:57Speaker 4: It's so interesting. You know the little cigarette holder in
- 16:00Speaker 4: your can't I have coins in there? And I found
- 16:04Speaker 4: one the other day. There was like apparently one dollar something,
- 16:07Speaker 4: but then who cares? It was more than you had.
- 16:09Speaker 4: It's someone something on eBay for like two thousand dollars,
- 16:11Speaker 4: so I'm like, what, but I don't think it is
- 16:13Speaker 4: worth No one's bought it yet, but I'm like, I
- 16:15Speaker 4: could put it up there two thousand, just see how
- 16:16Speaker 4: we go undercut.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Them listed for fifteen hundreds. What happens, Well, that's exactly right.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Oh my god, it's so good. So I'd say check
- 16:24Speaker 4: it out. And if you have some coins lay around,
- 16:26Speaker 4: you might be sitting on a gold mine. You fantastic.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Alright, guys, let's go to a really quick break because

- 17:25Speaker 4: Now, let's take a listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 17:31Speaker 7: Hi, She's on the Money. I love the podcast. I've
- 17:34Speaker 7: been listening for almost a year now, and my money
- 17:38Speaker 7: dilemma is I've just checked my bank account and I've
- 17:42Speaker 7: been sent ten thousand dollars from a family friend. There
- 17:47Speaker 7: was no description or anythink like that, and I haven't
- 17:52Speaker 7: seen this family friend in maybe a year. A couple
- 17:55Speaker 7: months ago, I sent them a message saying I didn't
- 17:58Speaker 7: want to be in their life anymore, but I'm grateful
- 18:00Speaker 7: for everything they've done for me. Because the family friend
- 18:03Speaker 7: did live with me and my family for quite a
- 18:06Speaker 7: while and then they're left quite abruptly a couple of
- 18:09Speaker 7: years ago. I had quite a difficult relationship with them,
- 18:13Speaker 7: and they also had quite a turbulent relationship with my
- 18:16Speaker 7: mom and my sister. And I'm not too sure what
- 18:20Speaker 7: to do about the money because I feel bad keeping
- 18:24Speaker 7: it because I'm obviously not in contact with her, and
- 18:27Speaker 7: I'm not sure if maybe something's going on in her
- 18:29Speaker 7: life she's sick or unwell, because I've also had that
- 18:33Speaker 7: I'm in her will. But then also I'm a full
- 18:36Speaker 7: time student, I'm also working full time, and that money
- 18:40Speaker 7: would really help me and my sister and my mom,
- 18:44Speaker 7: and I'm trying really really hard to save and it's
- 18:47Speaker 7: very difficult. So please let me know any thoughts or
- 18:50Speaker 7: advice you have.
- 18:51Speaker 4: I really appreciate it.
- 18:53Speaker 5: This is diabolical, God, but like, isn't it the dream
- 18:55Speaker 5: to just wake up be like, Wow, someone gifted me
- 18:57Speaker 5: ten thousand dollars.
- 18:58Speaker 4: So when it happens in reality, you're like, what the hell,
- 19:01Speaker 4: what do we do?
- 19:02Speaker 2: Stressful?
- 19:02Speaker 4: I really want to know if it's.
- 19:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:06Speaker 4: First of all, I'm really sorry to hear, and it's
- 19:08Speaker 4: really good that you could recognize even though it might
- 19:11Speaker 4: have been really hard to be like, oh, this person
- 19:13Speaker 4: isn't good for me and good for my life and
- 19:15Speaker 4: that's very hard decision to make, but really proud of you.
- 19:18Speaker 4: First of all, I'm just going to assume it wasn't
- 19:20Speaker 4: an accident, because that would be like if you haven't
- 19:22Speaker 4: spoken to them, then maybe, but it's not. And so
- 19:26Speaker 4: for that, I would just say, if I imagine winning
- 19:28Speaker 4: the lotto, I really just want to give everyone like
- 19:30Speaker 4: a bunch of money. And I know that, like it's
- 19:32Speaker 4: obviously a very different scenario, but in these situations where
- 19:36Speaker 4: you maybe have the means to do that, you really
- 19:39Speaker 4: want to. And I know that being on the receiving
- 19:42Speaker 4: end is like crazy, it's just that you don't feel worthy,
- 19:45Speaker 4: don't feel like you want to make sure that you're
- 19:48Speaker 4: doing good with this money. But I think take the
- 19:51Speaker 4: pressure off assuming it wasn't an accident. This person wanted
- 19:54Speaker 4: to give this money to you, and they wanted to
- 19:56Speaker 4: probably help, and so it seems like in your situation
- 19:59Speaker 4: you're st mean to save, like it seemed like it
- 20:01Speaker 4: came at the perfect time, and I'm sure that they
- 20:02Speaker 4: would really want to know that it is helping you
- 20:04Speaker 4: in some ways. So I think, do with it whatever
- 20:08Speaker 4: you feel like you want to. And Victoria made a
- 20:10Speaker 4: beautiful Freudian slip earlier and said how you would spend
- 20:13Speaker 4: I mean invest it, And so I'm thinking, I'm thinking
- 20:20Speaker 4: Victoria wants you to spend that money was not permission,
- 20:26Speaker 4: So definitely use it to better your life, better your circumstance,
- 20:31Speaker 4: and just treat it as a gift to you and
- 20:34Speaker 4: your family.
- 20:35Speaker 2: I agree, I think you need to check that it
- 20:36Speaker 2: wasn't an accident. I just know that this would eat
- 20:39Speaker 2: me up.
- 20:40Speaker 5: And I think that, like with modern day banking, we've
- 20:43Speaker 5: all done it, We've all sent it to like the
- 20:44Speaker 5: wrong Jessica or the wrong person, and I think, like,
- 20:47Speaker 5: especially because there's no information or context, I just think
- 20:52Speaker 5: morally the right thing you would just be like to
- 20:54Speaker 5: send an email or a text. Wo'd be like, hey,
- 20:56Speaker 5: this popped up in my account. I just wanted to
- 20:59Speaker 5: check was it in tech to come to me? And
- 21:01Speaker 5: then if they say yes, then you have that knowledge
- 21:04Speaker 5: and you can kind of proceed from there. But otherwise
- 21:06Speaker 5: you're going, well, why do I have it? Why is
- 21:08Speaker 5: it here?
- 21:09Speaker 2: With that being said, it would be naive not to
- 21:11Speaker 2: acknowledge that.
- 21:13Speaker 5: There's a very good chance that this is a little
- 21:15Speaker 5: bit of manipulation really and that they live truly where I.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Was going to go with it, I was like, yes,
- 21:19Speaker 4: this is coercive control.
- 21:21Speaker 5: Yeah, and they've sent you the money to force you
- 21:23Speaker 5: to talk to them. I mean, it's really up to
- 21:27Speaker 5: you to talk to you for ten grand?
- 21:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I love.
- 21:29Speaker 5: This is the thing is I think that even if
- 21:31Speaker 5: you would have messaged them and say, hey, like this
- 21:33Speaker 5: ten grand's popped up, like just want to check it
- 21:35Speaker 5: was intended for me, And if they then tried to
- 21:36Speaker 5: guilt trip you or say something say yes I'm experiencing
- 21:39Speaker 5: a tough time or I've won the lotto or whatever,
- 21:42Speaker 5: I miss you and I just wanted to da da
- 21:44Speaker 5: da da, you are then well within your rights to
- 21:46Speaker 5: set the boundary once you know that that was the intention,
- 21:49Speaker 5: like it was intended to come to you, like if
- 21:50Speaker 5: you don't want to reply after that.
- 21:52Speaker 2: If you that's totally fine.
- 21:53Speaker 5: Really, I think whatever boundaries you've set, you are well
- 21:58Speaker 5: within your rights to enforce those, and this money should
- 22:00Speaker 5: not change that. With that being said, the goal may
- 22:04Speaker 5: have been, or the hope may have been from the
- 22:06Speaker 5: person sending it to you, that the money would change that,
- 22:08Speaker 5: and that you would feel guilty and it would reopen
- 22:10Speaker 5: the relationship or open a conversation or whatever.
- 22:12Speaker 2: That looks like.
- 22:14Speaker 5: You're allowed to set and hold those boundaries irrespective of
- 22:17Speaker 5: whether or not you know they give you money. But
- 22:20Speaker 5: if they did give it to you and it was
- 22:21Speaker 5: a gift, then you know that theoretically should come with
- 22:24Speaker 5: those strings. That's what we always say, A gift comes
- 22:26Speaker 5: with no expectations attached.
- 22:28Speaker 3: Exactly what do you think they're I think it's crazy.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Who does that, Like doesn't talk to someone and then
- 22:34Speaker 3: gives them ten grand Like that's not like, oh, I
- 22:36Speaker 3: transferred you one hundred dollars because like years ago I
- 22:39Speaker 3: owed you one hundred dollars and I'm finally paying it back,
- 22:42Speaker 3: Like this is a different story anyway. I just yeah,
- 22:47Speaker 3: I would want to check that it wasn't a mistake,
- 22:49Speaker 3: and I would want to make sure that I understood
- 22:52Speaker 3: the intention behind it. Is it bad that my brain
- 22:55Speaker 3: went immediately to its manipulative it's control, Like, that's not
- 22:59Speaker 3: cool from my brain. But I think it's important to
- 23:03Speaker 3: check that it's not those things, and then if it is,
- 23:06Speaker 3: it is. If it isn't, it isn't. But I would,
- 23:08Speaker 3: I guess, proceed with caution, and to be honest, I
- 23:11Speaker 3: wouldn't be spending a dollar of it until you understand
- 23:14Speaker 3: that it wasn't a mistake, because it would be very
- 23:17Speaker 3: awkward if they go, hey, I'm so sorry, Jess. I
- 23:20Speaker 3: know you drew this boundary with me, but now I
- 23:22Speaker 3: have to reach out to you because I accidently I
- 23:25Speaker 3: transferred to you, you know, ten grand and it was
- 23:28Speaker 3: actually meant to go to my other friend Jess, or
- 23:30Speaker 3: it was meant to be my rent, or it was
- 23:32Speaker 3: meant to be something else, and you go, sorry, I
- 23:34Speaker 3: already spent it.
- 23:35Speaker 4: Yeah, like that would be awkward. So that's where I
- 23:39Speaker 4: would go.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I totally agree.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Good call.
- 23:41Speaker 2: SHO move into this week's dilemma.
- 23:43Speaker 4: We absolutely should.
- 23:45Speaker 3: This one is actually something we hear about all too often,
- 23:49Speaker 3: so I hope we can share some I guess helpful opinions,
- 23:51Speaker 3: thoughts and feelings with you. So they wrote, Hi, Victoria,
- 23:56Speaker 3: I'm twenty nine and I earn around one hundred and five.
- 23:59Speaker 4: Dollars a year.
- 24:00Speaker 3: I've worked really hard to get myself into a good
- 24:02Speaker 3: financial position, and I've managed to say about thirty five
- 24:05Speaker 3: thousand dollars. But I also have an eighteen thousand dollar
- 24:09Speaker 3: hex debt and a twelve thousand dollars car loan. My
- 24:12Speaker 3: goal is to buy my first home in the next
- 24:14Speaker 3: couple of years, so I know that having cash behind
- 24:17Speaker 3: me is really important. But every time I see my
- 24:20Speaker 3: car loan now my HEXT balance, I just want to
- 24:23Speaker 3: pay it off and be absolutely done with it. I
- 24:25Speaker 3: keep hearing people say not all debt is bad debt,
- 24:28Speaker 3: but honestly, I just hate owing money. I'm so torn
- 24:32Speaker 3: between using my savings to clear these up and enjoying
- 24:35Speaker 3: the peace of mind, or leaving my savings alone because
- 24:38Speaker 3: I know I'll probably need them for a house deposit
- 24:40Speaker 3: and emergencies. How do you know when it's worth paying
- 24:43Speaker 3: off a debt early and when you're actually better off
- 24:47Speaker 3: keeping the cash.
- 24:50Speaker 4: Thoughts?
- 24:50Speaker 5: You know, the hex element We've said many, many, many times.
- 24:53Speaker 5: HEX is, you know, not the worst debt to have.
- 24:55Speaker 5: It's index you're not paying hectic interest on it.
- 24:58Speaker 2: It dies when you die.
- 24:59Speaker 5: More with the true I would not be too concerned
- 25:02Speaker 5: about the HEX. If I was you the car loan,
- 25:04Speaker 5: I would be more concerned about. I think though, when
- 25:08Speaker 5: you say you might need the money for emergencies, I
- 25:11Speaker 5: would like to understand do you have an emergency fund?
- 25:13Speaker 5: Because I think before you go spending all the money
- 25:15Speaker 5: you have, or like a good chunk of the money
- 25:17Speaker 5: that you have, it wouldn't be all of it paying
- 25:19Speaker 5: off that debt. Do you have enough to cover yourself
- 25:24Speaker 5: for however many months? So like, have you got an
- 25:26Speaker 5: emergency fund or is that pool of thirty five thousand
- 25:29Speaker 5: every cent that you have to your name. If so,
- 25:32Speaker 5: potentially you might not need a thirty five thousand dollars
- 25:34Speaker 5: emergency fund. Can you split some of that off depending
- 25:37Speaker 5: on your interest rate on the car loan, That's when
- 25:40Speaker 5: I would be assessing as to whether or not it's
- 25:42Speaker 5: worth paying it off early. I just know that over
- 25:44Speaker 5: the term of a car loan, you end up paying
- 25:46Speaker 5: sometimes almost double the cost of your car, and so
- 25:50Speaker 5: I do feel like I mean, I personally just don't
- 25:53Speaker 5: love the idea of paying interest on things if I
- 25:55Speaker 5: don't have to keep in mind, when you have a
- 25:58Speaker 5: mortgage as well, You're mortgage is subject to change. Like
- 26:01Speaker 5: ook at how many times the rates have gone up
- 26:03Speaker 5: in the past few years. So while you might say, well,
- 26:05Speaker 5: thirty five thousand dollars is enough for my deposit, congratulations,
- 26:08Speaker 5: by the way, I'm saving such a huge sum of money,
- 26:10Speaker 5: and that's a really exciting time. I think that not
- 26:14Speaker 5: having that additional debt would probably free up your cash flow,
- 26:18Speaker 5: so that if there were changes with your mortgage, you know,
- 26:21Speaker 5: that would be a little easier on you. But all
- 26:23Speaker 5: of this will be taken into account if you speak
- 26:25Speaker 5: to a mortgage broker, who will look at your assets,
- 26:27Speaker 5: your liabilities and kind of give you the breakdown.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Exactly. Has just said congratulations, and that's huge, quite a
- 26:35Speaker 4: feat And this isn't very helpful. But I'm always confused
- 26:37Speaker 4: by car loans because I'm like, I guess I would
- 26:40Speaker 4: need one too. I don't really have savings. If my
- 26:41Speaker 4: car broke, I would, you know, touch wood, I would
- 26:43Speaker 4: need to get take out a loan to get a
- 26:45Speaker 4: new one. But that isn't to say that I would
- 26:48Speaker 4: get like a big car. I know that people have
- 26:49Speaker 4: families that need big cars, but I'm like, that's one
- 26:52Speaker 4: thing that I've never understood why people need to spend
- 26:56Speaker 4: so much on it.
- 26:57Speaker 5: Like it's not the amount that people spend on cars. Yeah,
- 27:00Speaker 5: I know, like people getting loans for you know, thirty
- 27:02Speaker 5: to fifty thousand dollars back. And I understand cars are
- 27:04Speaker 5: expensive and safety and dada da, all of those things.
- 27:07Speaker 5: Like I'm not having a go with anyone who's bought
- 27:08Speaker 5: a new car, but you can just buy a car
- 27:12Speaker 5: for sub ten thousands dollars a job, getting lots of
- 27:15Speaker 5: factors to consider, anxiety.
- 27:18Speaker 2: And your team.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Jess like, yeah, obviously it is an absolute privilege to
- 27:22Speaker 3: say this, but if you can't buy it outright, you
- 27:24Speaker 3: need to be having a really good think about why
- 27:26Speaker 3: you want that particular model.
- 27:28Speaker 4: And that particular car. Yeah, exactly. And I think you know,
- 27:31Speaker 4: the safety standards and the safety features have they kind
- 27:35Speaker 4: of started coming around like twenty ten. At that point,
- 27:38Speaker 4: they're like super safe. So anything in the last like
- 27:41Speaker 4: fifteen years, you're guaranteed to get like a pretty safe car.
- 27:44Speaker 4: So you could definitely go cheaper. But anyway, not to
- 27:46Speaker 4: say that you know it's done now and you have
- 27:48Speaker 4: a beautiful car hopefully, But yeah, I would say, yes,
- 27:51Speaker 4: don't worry about hex at all. It sounds very similar
- 27:54Speaker 4: to jest, don't worry about hex, try and pay that debt. Yeah,
- 27:58Speaker 4: I guess like it depends on the interest rate, but
- 27:59Speaker 4: I know that you storically and maybe like famously, they're
- 28:01Speaker 4: not known for having very fair interest rights and you
- 28:04Speaker 4: kind of pay some money. So even like, and I
- 28:08Speaker 4: don't know if this is the best thing to do,
- 28:11Speaker 4: but I would even look at maybe alone that has
- 28:14Speaker 4: a better interest rate. That's not necessarily car loan that
- 28:17Speaker 4: is just I feel like adding cards, like adding the
- 28:20Speaker 4: word wedding to an event and everything goes up a
- 28:22Speaker 4: million dollars, And so having a regular loan that is
- 28:26Speaker 4: just like way less interest and you know you've done
- 28:28Speaker 4: your research on there. Maybe you've got some benefits of
- 28:31Speaker 4: freedom fly points or something some random things like that,
- 28:34Speaker 4: like have a shop round for a cheaper thing or
- 28:36Speaker 4: something that will cost you less in the long run
- 28:38Speaker 4: and see if you can paid off with that. And
- 28:40Speaker 4: I know it's Victory's probably angry that I'm suggesting getting
- 28:42Speaker 4: to know expam, but that is maybe what I would
- 28:46Speaker 4: do well, trying to paid off quickly, but don't maybe
- 28:49Speaker 4: touch too much of your savings.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I think I'm just gonna lean into what Jess said.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Go talk to a mortgage broker, because we have seen
- 28:57Speaker 3: people in our business before who have paid off their
- 29:01Speaker 3: HEX debt and gone, oh, I paid off my HEX
- 29:04Speaker 3: and you know it meant that I had to save
- 29:06Speaker 3: for another year and a half and we go, oh cool,
- 29:10Speaker 3: you didn't have to pay off your debt. You could
- 29:12Speaker 3: have afforded a house a year and a half ago
- 29:14Speaker 3: and the HEX set wouldn't have impacted your serviceability enough
- 29:18Speaker 3: to be a worry. And again, the debt doesn't feel
- 29:21Speaker 3: good and you want to get rid of it, But
- 29:23Speaker 3: talk to a broker because they'll be able to give
- 29:25Speaker 3: you a strategy of getting into your first home and
- 29:28Speaker 3: what that will look like. We deal with people who
- 29:30Speaker 3: have debt all the time. But the important thing is
- 29:32Speaker 3: having a conversation because your broker might go, yep, if
- 29:35Speaker 3: you can get rid of that car Loan, don't worry
- 29:38Speaker 3: about the HEX, this is the strategy, or they might
- 29:41Speaker 3: go okay, well, your serviceability with the car loan and
- 29:43Speaker 3: with the HEX looks like X. But if you did this,
- 29:46Speaker 3: it would look like why go and get some advice
- 29:48Speaker 3: from someone who can actually look at your numbers, don't
- 29:52Speaker 3: you know? Put your hand up and be like, oh,
- 29:53Speaker 3: I'm just going to make a decision that I think
- 29:55Speaker 3: makes sense. Seeing a mortgage broker is free. Go and
- 29:58Speaker 3: get the free advice and put yourself in the best
- 30:01Speaker 3: possible financial position. But also leaning into what Jess said,
- 30:05Speaker 3: it sounds like you've just got thirty five thousand dollars
- 30:07Speaker 3: in savings and that's cool, but I need you to
- 30:10Speaker 3: carve some of that off for your emergency fund and
- 30:13Speaker 3: putting that to the side.
- 30:14Speaker 4: To never touch.
- 30:17Speaker 2: Or buy a house. So there are so many things
- 30:19Speaker 2: that just pop up there.
- 30:20Speaker 3: Like exactly the money, Yeah, like it costs so much
- 30:23Speaker 3: money to have keys cut, Like that's crazy, that's a
- 30:27Speaker 3: niche personal reference, please disregard. So we also aside three
- 30:32Speaker 3: months and I will talk to you about that reference
- 30:34Speaker 3: you pin that and cut back and ask a jest.
- 30:36Speaker 4: But not right now. We asked the community.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Obviously, what debt would you tackle first? Maybe five percent
- 30:43Speaker 3: of you said the car loan, three percent said HEX,
- 30:45Speaker 3: and eleven percent of you said neither, I would keep saving. Okay, okay,
- 30:50Speaker 3: important to take into consideration that you would probably have
- 30:53Speaker 3: a relatively high interest rate on a car loan and
- 30:55Speaker 3: we don't want to pay that if.
- 30:57Speaker 4: We don't have to. Yes, exactly, Sorry, I just rem
- 31:00Speaker 4: but that there are car loan brokers as well. There's
- 31:01Speaker 4: one in No like no Mark, you guys can brok
- 31:04Speaker 4: or you can just ask me, oh yeah, yeah, are
- 31:06Speaker 4: they different anyway you could like refinance a car loan specifically,
- 31:10Speaker 4: But they're all the same. Yeah you can, No, they're
- 31:12Speaker 4: not all the same.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Zeller is better, Zeller is better, exactly exactly.
- 31:18Speaker 2: She's always said that.
- 31:20Speaker 4: What I've always said, I've never seen anybody else in
- 31:23Speaker 4: the entire market. But that's a really good point.
- 31:26Speaker 3: You can talk to someone about that. But it's also,
- 31:29Speaker 3: I guess important if you did come to us for
- 31:32Speaker 3: a car loan, we do ask you a few questions
- 31:34Speaker 3: that someone who just buys and sells cars every day
- 31:37Speaker 3: they go, oh, yes, yeah, no worries, I can get
- 31:40Speaker 3: you a car loon full stop. My team are a
- 31:42Speaker 3: little bit more likely to go, oh yes, like I'm
- 31:44Speaker 3: really glad that you are buying a new car, Like
- 31:47Speaker 3: what's your financial situation?
- 31:49Speaker 4: Like is that the right loan for you? Do you
- 31:52Speaker 4: think that that?
- 31:52Speaker 3: Like, yes, I ask you a few more questions because yes,
- 31:56Speaker 3: we do it. Yeah, but we also want to make
- 31:58Speaker 3: sure that we're not writing loans that put you in
- 32:01Speaker 3: a worse off position. So maybe if you want to
- 32:03Speaker 3: be in a worse off position, go see a different broker.
- 32:05Speaker 4: But like, yes, true, it's a stolen doing. We could
- 32:09Speaker 4: make so much more money if we had less morals.
- 32:12Speaker 4: I know, I'm so sorry. I thought they were because
- 32:14Speaker 4: car loan broker, mortgage brogger, but I think they probably know.
- 32:17Speaker 3: There are people that only do houses. There are people
- 32:19Speaker 3: who do assets.
- 32:21Speaker 1: All.
- 32:22Speaker 4: Yeah, we do everything.
- 32:23Speaker 3: We do residential, we do commercial, we do business loans,
- 32:26Speaker 3: we do asset finance, like we've financed lasers for people's
- 32:31Speaker 3: beauty therapy clinics. We see financed trucks and tractors for farming,
- 32:36Speaker 3: like we do everything.
- 32:37Speaker 4: Oh amazing, it's crazy. It is really fun.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Hell, well, someone comes around and you're like, I need
- 32:43Speaker 3: to buy attractor, and I'm like, well, let me work
- 32:45Speaker 3: out exactly how I do that. But I've got your
- 32:48Speaker 3: back anyway, I've done that one before. So you need
- 32:51Speaker 3: a new tractor, you come to me anyway. We also
- 32:55Speaker 3: asked the community, if you suddenly had enough money to
- 32:57Speaker 3: clear all of your debt, would you what do you
- 32:59Speaker 3: reckon that sits at Oh?
- 33:02Speaker 5: I in my head, I'm imagining, like like our last question,
- 33:04Speaker 5: like a lot of it's just popped up in my account.
- 33:07Speaker 5: It's like if it did absolutely unclearing the debt.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Who were well, only thirty nine percent of you said
- 33:12Speaker 3: immediately yes, really yeah, Forty three percent said it would
- 33:16Speaker 3: actually depend on the debt, seventeen percent said only some
- 33:19Speaker 3: of it, and two percent said no, I'd continue saving okay,
- 33:22Speaker 3: seeing I know, huh.
- 33:24Speaker 5: Maybe some people are get agree to get some financial
- 33:25Speaker 5: advice because they come into a sum of money.
- 33:28Speaker 3: The next question we asked was which would genuinely make
- 33:31Speaker 3: you feel more financially secure. We asked, would it be
- 33:35Speaker 3: being completely debt free or having a healthy savings account?
- 33:39Speaker 2: Oh, that's a tough one.
- 33:41Speaker 4: What do you reckon? The split was I reckon it's.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Like fifty to fifty. I think thirty nine to fifty one?
- 33:46Speaker 4: No one quick, I reckon mostly having healthy savings.
- 33:53Speaker 3: Jess was right until she questioned us, yea it was
- 33:57Speaker 3: fifty to fifty exactly on the dots.
- 34:00Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 34:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 34:02Speaker 3: We then asked what's your two cents and you had
- 34:04Speaker 3: a lot to say, mostly get rid of the car loan,
- 34:08Speaker 3: but leave the hex debt.
- 34:10Speaker 4: It will sit and pay itself down over timegally.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Someone else said, pay the car loan post and then
- 34:15Speaker 3: speak to a broker about paying off a hex debt
- 34:17Speaker 3: and whether it's a good strategy. Someone said, define your
- 34:20Speaker 3: debts so it will make more sense. They said, if
- 34:23Speaker 3: you understand what is consumer debt and what is hex
- 34:26Speaker 3: and helpful debt, that might be helpful for you. Another
- 34:29Speaker 3: person said, if you have a healthy savings account, pause
- 34:32Speaker 3: that for a bit and then focus on the car
- 34:34Speaker 3: loan until it's paid off. Another person said good debt
- 34:37Speaker 3: and bad debt are different. Good debt is your home
- 34:39Speaker 3: loan that you'll get in the future, and a bad
- 34:41Speaker 3: debt is a car loan. Another person said, well, what's
- 34:44Speaker 3: better for you having extra money in shares or for
- 34:48Speaker 3: a home loan or extra money to pay off a
- 34:50Speaker 3: car loan, which I thought was really important. Another person said,
- 34:55Speaker 3: we refinanced our home recently and we all advised to
- 34:58Speaker 3: clear our car loan debt first, so that's a good
- 35:01Speaker 3: like I've done this for you. Another person said, if
- 35:05Speaker 3: one might help you sleep better at night, that's probably
- 35:08Speaker 3: the one you should prioritize, which I often say. Another
- 35:12Speaker 3: person said, if the loan term ends by the time
- 35:14Speaker 3: you're planning to buy anyway, maybe I wouldn't bother. So
- 35:17Speaker 3: there's a lot of like different things on the table,
- 35:20Speaker 3: I suppose about advice, but I think.
- 35:23Speaker 4: My number one thing would be talked to a broker.
- 35:25Speaker 3: Yeah, and just say, hey, I'm in a position where
- 35:28Speaker 3: I want to buy a house in the next three
- 35:30Speaker 3: to five years. I've got thirty five thousand dollars in savings,
- 35:33Speaker 3: I've got a car loan, got a hextet, here's my salary,
- 35:36Speaker 3: and a broker will be able to give you.
- 35:37Speaker 4: A number of different scenarios.
- 35:40Speaker 3: Well, this is what it would look like if you
- 35:41Speaker 3: paid off your car loan, this is what it would
- 35:43Speaker 3: look like if you had no hex debt, and then
- 35:44Speaker 3: you can make the decision that makes sense for you.
- 35:47Speaker 5: Yeah, and if you want to know more about the
- 35:48Speaker 5: different kinds of debt, We've run an episode in our
- 35:50Speaker 5: summer series earlier in dr about managing debt. We'll link
- 35:53Speaker 5: in the show notes and that kind of goes over
- 35:56Speaker 5: you know, what is good debt, what is bad debt,
- 35:57Speaker 5: the things you might want to consider in a bit
- 35:59Speaker 5: more depth if you do want to go over that
- 36:01Speaker 5: and have a bit more understanding.
- 36:02Speaker 4: We've got our fingers on the pulse. We know what
- 36:04Speaker 4: questions you guys have before we even have them exactly,
- 36:07Speaker 4: and we've already made that episode. All right.
- 36:09Speaker 3: I think that this is unfortunately all we have time
- 36:11Speaker 3: for today, and at the end of the day, whatever
- 36:13Speaker 3: you decide should support your financial goals and your personal
- 36:16Speaker 3: money story, and it's your decision to make. We just
- 36:18Speaker 3: hear it away in with some helpful opinions, but opinions
- 36:22Speaker 3: are like we'll just move on from that anyway.
- 36:26Speaker 4: My friends. That concludes our Friday Drinks episode.
- 36:30Speaker 3: I hope that you've left feeling refreshed and invigorated for
