- 0:00Welcome to a brand new episode of the fit ones weekly podcast.
- 0:03I'm excited We're gonna dive into something new today a couple of weeks ago I
- 0:07did a brand new series called horror stories with fitness advice that people
- 0:12had received that kind of made you go what the heck?
- 0:14Well, we're gonna continue that I got some really great feedback on it and
- 0:17today we're gonna dive into Nutrition horror stories that have been submitted
- 0:21by listeners and friends and clients that will make you also go What now before
- 0:28we jump into this episode, I want to start off by saying I Brought the question
- 0:34up.
- 0:34Literally.
- 0:35I said what is the worst diet slash nutrition advice?
- 0:38You've been given or have seen given to somebody.
- 0:42I thought that was a pretty open-ended question I didn't think there was a lot
- 0:45of controversy involved in the way that I asked that question But I should have
- 0:49anticipated the fact that any time you bring up diet and nutrition It's going
- 0:53to ruffle feathers and it absolutely did just that so before I jump into
- 0:58reading these stories I want to preface this one by saying if food talk and
- 1:04diet and restriction is something that's triggering to you This probably isn't
- 1:07the podcast episode that you should be listening to or watching too It's not
- 1:11gonna hurt my feelings.
- 1:11Go ahead and make sure to tune in for next week's episode But I also want to
- 1:17say that when I am sharing someone's stories about their nutrition Just because
- 1:21it doesn't work for one person doesn't mean that that is a blanket statement
- 1:25that it is a terrible way To do your nutrition somebody's horror stories might
- 1:30be another person's saving grace and there's a couple of examples in this
- 1:35however, there's also some great examples of just bad nutrition advice in
- 1:40General that most people I'm gonna be pick my words very carefully Should stay
- 1:45away from and then the last thing that I want to say before jumping into this
- 1:49episode is That yes, I am very aware that the advice that was given in the 60s
- 1:55and the 50s at that time was based off of the information that they had and
- 1:59same with 70s 80s 90s and even today and we're Continuously learning more and
- 2:05more nutrition and the scheme of science and health It's still a very brand new
- 2:10field and we are always learning and always trying to bring the most up-to-date
- 2:14information But we've taken some turns along the way and there's been some bad
- 2:18episodes So I absolutely acknowledge that that I'm not saying that the advice
- 2:23given in the past was quote-unquote Terrible advice at that time, but now we
- 2:30are able to look at it from a different perspective and say oh That wasn't
- 2:34great advice.
- 2:35Here's what we can learn from that So go into this episode with an open mind.
- 2:42Hopefully you'll be able to learn something from this talk that we're gonna
- 2:46give and Yeah Make sure that you watch the full episodes before you say I can't
- 2:52believe that you're talking about horror stories about nutrition I think that
- 2:56there's a lot for us to be able to share from our own experiences And there's
- 3:01gonna be a lot that we can break down and learn as we move forward with
- 3:04nutrition Cool.
- 3:06Okay.
- 3:06So with that being said, let's jump into this episode of the worst diet
- 3:12nutrition advice That you've been given or seen given to somebody and I
- 3:16received Probably close to a hundred different submissions on this topic Which
- 3:20it's a lot more than came in when I was just asking for fitness advice that you
- 3:25had received So if you don't hear your story submitted or your little statement
- 3:30Just know I will probably get to it in a future episode And if you have a
- 3:34horror story that you'd like to submit I'll share down in the show notes how
- 3:38you can get that to me and it will make it onto the next episode Alright first
- 3:43one First off.
- 3:44I love this concept.
- 3:46I've enjoyed watching Hannah Alonzo I mentioned she's the person that inspired
- 3:49this series a channel for over a year now And I find it so fascinating trigger
- 3:54warning for eating disorders and disordered eating habits as a horror story
- 3:58perpetuates the type of extremism within the fitness and dieting culture I
- 4:03wanted to share my own fitness horror story since I've been in the military the
- 4:06job advice given talks and relationships and my own struggles with self-esteem
- 4:10and body image that led to my 13 year struggle with an ED and the disordered
- 4:15eating habits that I adopted because I Thought they were healthy for me and
- 4:19finding that balance of what is healthy and what is controlling Some of the
- 4:25perpetrated tips and tricks I was told used and still see being given a solid
- 4:30advice to others who are at a vulnerable state include Extreme or fad dieting
- 4:34low calorie low carb keto the military diet I never personally used this one
- 4:40limiting water intake in the days leading up to a height weight or a tape test
- 4:45if you're To get over the authorized weight, which I think that limiting water
- 4:51intake has just been a really prevalent form of weight loss for Sports for
- 4:59military where basically you're trying to dehydrate yourself to lose as much
- 5:02water weight as possible You know we've all heard of people going and sitting
- 5:05in the sauna or seam room for extended amount of time to try to sweat out as
- 5:09Much water weight as you can which obviously can lead to dehydration and lead
- 5:13to other issues Especially if not only are you doing a weight test?
- 5:16But you also have some sort of fitness performance test that you have to go
- 5:21into after that So you're already not feeling great because you're dehydrated
- 5:25now.
- 5:25You're also expected to perform which just blows my mind See using a lax of the
- 5:32night before to ensure body was as light as possible or that the stomach didn't
- 5:36have any extra bloat using hemorrhoid cream on the stomach or wrapping plastic
- 5:40and a waste trainer to go to sleep wearing all of that just Crazy to me and the
- 5:46cycle usually led up to those who participate in this This method in a few
- 5:50weeks or days leading up to the height weight to restrict themselves with what
- 5:55they consume using copious amounts of exercise To burn off extra calories and
- 5:59then binge on food after the test was done as a reward for passing now
- 6:03Remember, this is all from a military perspective.
- 6:06I can remember when I was younger We had a waste trimmer where it was basically
- 6:09a piece of rubber that would wrap around with a zipper When my brother before
- 6:15he went through like puberty He was on the shorter and stockier side and very
- 6:19self-conscious of it.
- 6:20A lot of people made fun of his weight So that's what he I remember him using
- 6:25and he would wear this waste trimmer for Mowing the grass or doing yard work
- 6:30and I'm thinking he was maybe 13 14 years old at the time So yeah Those are
- 6:36around for a long time and it breaks my heart that obviously a teenager a young
- 6:41kid was using it But the fact that adults feel so pressured in order to be able
- 6:46to stay Where they are in this healthy range going through such extreme
- 6:52measures as far as using the waste trimmer or using hemorrhoid cream and
- 6:57laxatives it's really really sad the pressures that they put on in the military
- 7:01and I Realized it's like they have to hit these numbers But how about we relax
- 7:06off of hitting specific numbers and instead of doing these tests?
- 7:10I don't remember what it is like once a year once every two years Let's have
- 7:14consistent lessons so that we teach the military to maintain their fitness
- 7:19Versus that one test then they let go and then they're like, oh my god I have
- 7:22my fitness test in a month I got to make sure that I hit it and then these
- 7:26extreme methods come back into play So it's just this continual cycle where I
- 7:30was like what would happen if we did Fitness tests that didn't rely so much on
- 7:35weight and fitness and like size But you tested your fitness levels Let's say
- 7:41every two months or so so they actually had to maintain Fitness in order to
- 7:46stay at the military level that they are trying to maintain I feel like that
- 7:51would probably a lot be a lot healthier method versus these extreme ways Where
- 7:58did we leave off?
- 8:01Or been binging as a reward for passing It became a cycle that many people use
- 8:05and still do Because life and work get in the way and oftentimes Getting to the
- 8:10root cause of the issue is still stigmatized amongst service members, which
- 8:13yeah kind of covers what we were just talking about Thank you for taking the
- 8:16time to share these horror stories I hope that it helps others find a better
- 8:20and healthier method to fitness Absolutely.
- 8:23I think that the key takeaway to all to this particular story is extreme diets
- 8:28are still very persistent even in Military life.
- 8:32I think that it's very important to remember that fitness is a lifestyle And
- 8:36isn't something should be tested every just once or twice a year But we should
- 8:40be teaching how to maintain something and not just trying to do this big dump
- 8:46Right.
- 8:48It's doing so much more harm to their body than it is good Let's see Next
- 8:53story.
- 8:54I've always had the desire to lose weight.
- 8:56It was crying in my doctor's office when I was much younger He said, you know
- 9:00what?
- 9:00Just puree all your food liquefy your diet And it's inevitable that you're
- 9:04gonna drop some weight.
- 9:06I said, are you kidding me and nervously laughed?
- 9:09He said look you need to do something and this seems plausible I told him don't
- 9:14tell a woman to do that ever again and walked out never walked back in.
- 9:19Thank goodness I am so proud that you learned from that and you did not take
- 9:23their advice And we're gonna see this happen a couple of times in these stories
- 9:27that I'm gonna share where the advice is coming from a doctor and I'm not
- 9:30saying that Doctors don't know what they're talking about.
- 9:33There are some amazing doctors out there but a Good amount of doctors.
- 9:39Unfortunately aren't well educated and fitness and or nutrition and they're
- 9:43spewing also the trends that they see So it's like hey, I saw someone drop a
- 9:48ton of weight for from doing this Why don't you try it and so offering again
- 9:52another unhealthy?
- 9:54Really extreme diet method.
- 9:56Are you gonna lose weight?
- 9:57Well, yeah, but are you going to severely?
- 10:01Cut your calories and feel like crap and not get as much nutrients as you need
- 10:05as well Yeah, so any sort of big Intense diet like this, please second-guess if
- 10:13your doctor has ever told you.
- 10:15Oh Just chop up all your food and make a smoothie out of every single meal
- 10:20Probably is not gonna help you create a healthy lifestyle.
- 10:24That's the key word that I want everyone to always remember If you are trying
- 10:28some sort of diet However, you want to phrase that if it's not something that
- 10:33you can see yourself keeping up with for months if not years Should be years
- 10:40Then that's probably not the diet for you any time that you're doing some sort
- 10:44of extreme diet It is something that's going to help you lose weight and the
- 10:49immediate present But you're not gonna be able to maintain those eating habits
- 10:54and when you come off of that diet You start going right back into your old
- 10:58habits and that's where you gain the weight back and then on that time where
- 11:01you are on The extreme diet you're most likely not going to be living the
- 11:05lifestyle that you're used to you're gonna feel very sluggish You're gonna feel
- 11:08very lethargic You're gonna feel very weak and that just plays into this fact
- 11:13where you end up going.
- 11:14I can't do this Once again, I have failed another diet.
- 11:17You didn't feel the diet that diet failed you moving on I Started at 320 pounds
- 11:25and was on a 1,000 calorie diet full of shakes and bars for a year and a half
- 11:29This was from an MLM that they were talking about.
- 11:32I'm not I'm gonna leave my MLM talks to Hannah Alonzo go check out her channel,
- 11:37but it was an obviously very extreme diet I dropped 135 pounds according to the
- 11:43scale.
- 11:43I could no longer do a body weight squat They call me their biggest success
- 11:48story and praise the better version of myself It took a long time to build back
- 11:52strength and all the weight came back My metabolism still fights me to this day
- 11:56every attempt to reduce calories makes my stress response go Very high and
- 12:02causes issues Yeah, so I see this a lot where people lose a significant amount
- 12:09of body weight And then the people that have put them on that particular
- 12:13nutrition plan go.
- 12:13Oh my god.
- 12:14Look at you.
- 12:14You feel amazing But at what cost yeah the scale went down But you weren't able
- 12:20to live life you were in pain you lost all of your strength and all of your
- 12:24fitness and then like we just talked about because it is such an extreme diet
- 12:28at Just a thousand calories of shakes and bars.
- 12:31You can't maintain that and so of course once you get off of it You don't have
- 12:37some sort of plan of like, okay Well, what's a healthy nutrition plan for where
- 12:40I am with my weight So eventually all of that weight that you just lost Comes
- 12:45back and unfortunately for most people not only does the weight that you lost
- 12:48comes back you end up gaining even more weight in the process So I'm so sorry
- 12:53that you had to go through that.
- 12:54I can't imagine Actually, I can't imagine because I have been there and I know
- 12:58that it sucks It sucks a lot But I'm so proud of you for coming back and
- 13:02working on rebuilding your strength and not fighting to stay at that very
- 13:07unhealthy weight You may have been a better version of yourself in their eyes
- 13:11But that's because they are using you as a marketing tool to say hey this
- 13:16person was 320 pounds and now she's a hundred and seventy five pounds or
- 13:21whatever it ended up being if you do the math with that So yeah, it's great for
- 13:25their marketing tools.
- 13:26Not great for your overall health and fitness and well-being This lady I used
- 13:34to work with was very into keto.
- 13:37I have nothing against it And it's just not the diet for me.
- 13:40Anyways, one day I was eating a small pack of baby carrots She walked by my
- 13:44desk and said to me, you know, those are just sugar, right?
- 13:47It's just so absurd that all I could do is laugh a handful of baby carrots
- 13:51never made anyone fat JFC yeah, and I'm gonna Actually support you 100% in that
- 14:00first statement that there are some people that keto works amazing for I've
- 14:04experimented with the keto diet And for a short period of time it did it worked
- 14:08great.
- 14:08I felt energized I felt brain fog go away over time for me personally It did
- 14:14not work out But I know some people that with keto and carnivore because
- 14:19carnivore is going to come up here, too It works great for keto was actually
- 14:23created for people that had some mental illness or Suffered from seizures.
- 14:31So it actually does have a place in the medical world but for a majority of
- 14:36people Overall it does not to do so well with and any time that you're trying
- 14:41to cut out an entire nutritional group Like carbohydrates in the keto and the
- 14:46carnivore diet.
- 14:46There's gonna be some side effects to that but that's because it had clay
- 14:52includes Micronutrients and fiber in those foods and healthy carbs, right?
- 14:58We need sugar our brain really enjoy sugar at least for most of us now Yeah,
- 15:04I'm gonna agree with you eating a handful of carrots is never gonna make
- 15:07anybody Significantly gain weight.
- 15:11It is very hard if you're eating nothing but carrots to gain weight out of that
- 15:15Let's go take a whole bunch of carrots to meet your daily calorie surplus to
- 15:20see weight gain happen from that and I'm gonna say that eating baby carrots is
- 15:25gonna be a lot healthier as an afternoon noon snack Excuse me, then eating a
- 15:30processed protein bar or a Snicker bar Eat the carrots that is that blows my
- 15:35mind Eating only 1200 calories a day or some guy at my cousin's wedding told me
- 15:41to cut out all vegetables I understand people that Again going back to like,
- 15:48you know what you know at that time So I understand that people saying like oh
- 15:53if you're trying to lose weight cut back on sugar Which means cut back on fruit
- 15:56that used to be advice.
- 15:57Heck I remember giving that kind of advice to my to my clients earlier on in my
- 16:03training career But now we know fruit.
- 16:06Yes, it is sugar and is something like you shouldn't be eating 50 bananas in a
- 16:10day but Fruit also has micronutrients.
- 16:14It has fiber.
- 16:15It's a filling alternative.
- 16:17It is a great pre and post workout snack There's nothing wrong with fruit, but
- 16:21the idea of being told to cut out vegetables, which we know are very good for
- 16:26you They're very rich in vitamins and minerals that your body requires.
- 16:29It is a great carbohydrate source some of them some don't really have a lot of
- 16:34carbohydrates That's why I say that and obviously a great source of fiber that
- 16:38blows my mind that someone would say that Oh you want to lose weight?
- 16:41Just cut out vegetables when vegetables are the lowest calorie food and we know
- 16:46that in order to lose weight you need to eat Less calories than what you are
- 16:51burning and expending And so one great way to do that is to actually eat more
- 16:55vegetables because vegetables are very satiating They take up a lot of space in
- 16:59your gut per meal And so yeah terrible advice and on top of that the extreme
- 17:051200 calorie diet now I also want to preface this does that mean that nobody
- 17:09should be eating 1200 calories?
- 17:11No, there are a slight amount of people your calorie needs depend on a lot of
- 17:16different factors your height your age your daily Movement patterns, so I'm not
- 17:21gonna say that no one should be eating 1200 calories a day because if you're 4
- 17:24foot 11 Then yeah, maybe you will be eating 200 calories however for 90% of the
- 17:32population 1200 calories is going to be extremely low anything under and people
- 17:37always use the idea that a toddler should be taking in 1200 calories So I
- 17:42always like to put that out there that that's very true And I as a 42 year old
- 17:46woman do not want to eat like a toddler Another person don't eat vegetables,
- 17:51but this time because they're covered in pesticides So she said so wash it then
- 17:57that crow worker wasn't very bright.
- 17:59Y'all eat your vegetables I recently came across a YouTube video of someone who
- 18:04claims to only eat fruit.
- 18:05So a fruititarian On the opposite side.
- 18:09We have carnivores on this side Fruititarians on this side see a guy once tried
- 18:14to tell me that my unsweetened iced tea was worse than my health Worse for my
- 18:19health than his soda Unsweetened iced tea.
- 18:22Yeah, you're gonna get a little bit of caffeine in that but it unsweetened iced
- 18:27tea is a zero calorie drink It's a great way to get some hydration in and I
- 18:31don't think we need to really argue about the whole soda thing another person
- 18:36said explaining how my Drink coke was gonna kill me while they are rolling and
- 18:41smoking a cigarette.
- 18:42Yes I know coke and sugary drinks are bad for you But compared to smoking at
- 18:48that point, I'd be like, that's a little hypocritical Sir before I take fitness
- 18:51advice or nutrition advice from you.
- 18:53Let's take a look internally At least don't sit there smoking a cigarette while
- 18:58you're trying to tell me the best and the healthiest way to live Just stop
- 19:02eating carbs.
- 19:03Like somehow an entire entire food group was the problem Very very true the
- 19:09whole anti-seed oil thing drives me crazy There's people yet to prove anything
- 19:14a lot of science has shown that it is fine to incorporate seed oils into your
- 19:19diet they are not as Inflammatory as people like are pushing them to be there's
- 19:25just this big world.
- 19:26Everyone's trying to create a Controversy, right?
- 19:29This should be an episode for a whole nother day I will definitely try to get
- 19:33someone who is more familiar with the whole seed oil Idea and get them on so
- 19:38that we can have some real science-based conversation about that But I think
- 19:41that is a great topic The raw food diet sounds good in theory, but often leads
- 19:46to nutrient deficiency unhealthy weight loss lower bone density menstrual cycle
- 19:51irregularities And don't forget food-borne illnesses and parasites people
- 19:56really love feeding their pets raw food But somebody in a sub I was reading was
- 20:00generally surprised their cat got sick from it And yeah, so another fun fact
- 20:06going back to the beginning if you're ever interested in some like something
- 20:11Says you know what?
- 20:12I kind of be interested to try.
- 20:13I am never going to say don't do it My thing is yeah, give it a shot But learn
- 20:18how to listen to your body so that you know when something is working and when
- 20:21something isn't working for you It's very Important that you say true to
- 20:26yourself and listen to those little cues and don't try to push them off longer
- 20:29I say that because I actually did experiment with a raw food diet years ago
- 20:34I've pretty much experimented with every diet just so that when people say hey,
- 20:38how does this make you feel?
- 20:39I can give an honest review on that so I did the raw food diet for think about
- 20:43two to three weeks and One it was very boring because I am someone who loves
- 20:48the process of actually cooking a meal and love sitting down to a warm meal,
- 20:52but This is so true part of cooking any sort of food is it actually makes the
- 20:58nutrients easier to be absorbed by our body So if you're on something for too
- 21:02long at a time, then yeah, you could be experiencing these things So if you're
- 21:07interested in it, I'm not gonna poo-poo on you.
- 21:09It might work great There are people that it works great for but make sure that
- 21:14you are paying attention to how your body is running and feeling Model slash
- 21:22actress gave me dieting tip once don't eat for two days and just drink a lot of
- 21:26water Then eat a bag of oranges on the third day drink black coffee and smoke
- 21:30cigarettes to help with energy and hunger Rinse and repeat until you get the
- 21:35results that you want.
- 21:36Please you guys this is why I gave That disclaimer at the beginning that said
- 21:40like if you are triggered by diet talk might not be the episode to listen to
- 21:44you That is not diet advice.
- 21:46That is make yourself feel like crap advice and severely Take your nutrition to
- 21:53the highest extreme possible.
- 21:55Will you lose weight?
- 21:57Yeah Is that weight gonna be body fat?
- 22:01Not not 99% of that because you're gonna wait lose weight So rapidly that first
- 22:05weight that you lose is going to be water weight and you cannot keep this up
- 22:10Especially if you live a healthy lifestyle where you're expected to get out of
- 22:13bed and do any sort of movement that Once you get back into your daily routine,
- 22:18you're just gonna gain it.
- 22:20All right back You're the first time you take a big sip of water all the weight
- 22:24that you just lost you're gonna gain it back Someone told me that being hungry
- 22:29and feeling faint or weak is a mind over matter issue I don't have a large
- 22:33intestine Whether you have a large intestine or not You are in if you're in a
- 22:39calorie deficit.
- 22:40Let's talk about this for a second.
- 22:42If you're in a calorie deficit Chances are you're going to be hungry sometimes
- 22:46during that especially at the start because your body is let's say you're used
- 22:50to eating 2200 calories a day and now you're in a 500 cap calorie deficit.
- 22:55We're eating 1700 calories a day Your body is adjusted to those 2200 calories
- 23:00So yeah at the start you're probably going to be a little hungry but that's why
- 23:05it's also so important to make sure that you're eating a balanced diet of
- 23:09Protein carbs and fats if you were to eat just 1700 calories focusing on
- 23:14carbohydrates mostly you're gonna be Starving by the end of day one because
- 23:19carbohydrates are digested very slowly That is why a calorie is really not a
- 23:25calorie anymore Yes, it is a unit of measure and 1200 calories as 1200 calories
- 23:29or for this example 1700 calories is 1700 calories.
- 23:33However, we can make it so that if you are in a deficit to try to lose weight I
- 23:38want those 1700 calories to be as satiating as possible so that you are not
- 23:43Starving so that you are not feeling faint and weak My job as a trainer is to
- 23:48help you with your fitness and your overall goals to be able to hit your goals
- 23:53While feeling the best you possibly can so that's why when you hear trainers
- 23:58say you need to eat 0.8 to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight that you
- 24:03weigh and Making sure that you are also hitting your fat goals for the day are
- 24:08just as important as your calorie numbers because doing those Things are going
- 24:13to make it a lot easier to hit your calories and stay there while feeling Full
- 24:19and feeling satisfied does that make sense?
- 24:21I've talked about that a couple of different times on previous episodes so you
- 24:25can always go back and listen But if you have a follow-up question, let me know
- 24:29Next one my sister-in-law.
- 24:32She limited the amount of berries and fruit My niece could have but allowed
- 24:36unlimited milk which then of itself.
- 24:38Okay, I guess you we were a milk house We could drink milk as much as we
- 24:42wanted.
- 24:43I think it was the idea especially when I was growing up It's like drink your
- 24:46milk get your calcium She yelled at my niece for taking a piece of candy Which
- 24:51her and my brother were sharing the entire bag of candy on her front seat She
- 24:55made her eat a bag of cheese curds instead talk about setting your child up to
- 24:59have a Mind f of themselves at such a young age.
- 25:05She yelled at my Parents for this so the sister-in-law She yelled at my parents
- 25:09for giving her and my son a piece of angel food cake with strawberries and
- 25:12whipped cream for my dad's Birthday made her eat special squares instead cheese
- 25:18and pepperoni.
- 25:20I Did show her the nutritional information of an angel food cake and as kindly
- 25:24as I could but now we do not talk Sounds like going on contact with somebody
- 25:29like that is probably the best idea because it doesn't sound like she's really
- 25:34Wanting to hear any sort of parenting advice.
- 25:36That's really really sad I actually just had a fantastic talk to with my dad As
- 25:42many of you guys know my dad just went through a hip replacement.
- 25:45I've kind of talked about it on here He's doing great, by the way, but I was
- 25:49over at their house and we're just having a heart-to-heart and we were talking
- 25:53about some family members and stuff and I made the comment of you have got to
- 25:58choose your words so carefully because Whether you realize it or not the words
- 26:03that you tell somebody especially somebody that is younger are going to stick
- 26:08with them and could lead to such Bigger issues in the future and I know this
- 26:13first hand because it happened with me and I love my parents She's often very
- 26:17close.
- 26:18They did the absolute best that they could with the cards that they were dealt
- 26:23From their own childhood growing up.
- 26:26My dad didn't exactly have the best childhood.
- 26:28So I've never faulted him for I shouldn't say that I've had to work through a
- 26:32lot of things but I know that he was trying to be the best dad that he could I
- 26:37think that being a father to a Girl was very hard, especially as a rough and
- 26:42tough kind of guy and at first he was like, what are you talking about?
- 26:46I would never have hurt your feelings intentionally and I started saying like
- 26:49hey remember when I was a kid that you would tease me about This this and this
- 26:53so why are you surprised that now as an adult?
- 26:55I feel self-conscious about this this and this and his eyes started to like
- 27:00tear up because he had never really thought about the Impact that it will truly
- 27:04have he thought just when I was a kid that it was funny You know that the
- 27:09little jokes that he made about my blonde hair or for example my nose.
- 27:14That's what I'm talking about I won't sugarcoat it.
- 27:15I'll be honest He thought that he was just making jokes and that it would roll
- 27:18off of my back and it didn't to this day I am still very self-conscious about
- 27:23my body and I'm very self-conscious about my nose just to put it out there I
- 27:27have broken my nose twice.
- 27:28So it's a very sensitive subject to me and Yeah, so by yelling at her daughter
- 27:36your niece Telling her what she can and can't eat.
- 27:41I really hope that she doesn't carry that with her as she gets older But
- 27:46unfortunately, especially in today's times.
- 27:48She probably is and that absolutely breaks my heart We're almost done you guys,
- 27:53but I would love to hear how are you liking this sort of series so far?
- 27:57And again, if you have horror stories that you want to share make sure that you
- 28:01share them with me See I was told not to eat fruits Fruits you're supposed to
- 28:06eat meat the same guy told a co-worker Who would sometimes share dishes don't
- 28:11give them talking about me any fish?
- 28:13He would then eat those small bumblebee tuna packs of crackers.
- 28:17So that's really weird.
- 28:18Sounds like one He's a hypocrite too.
- 28:19He doesn't know what he's talking about three.
- 28:21We've already had the fruit talk You guys eat fruit.
- 28:25It is good carbohydrate.
- 28:26Your body needs carbohydrates and it tastes good.
- 28:29It's a great alternative to Like sugary sweet processed foods at age 18 I was
- 28:36told that coffee chocolate and black pepper were dangerous Stimulants for my
- 28:41heart at 74 waiting for the big one to take me home.
- 28:46Oh my gosh If someone took away coffee chocolate, I would be heartbroken
- 28:51Actually, I like pepper for a really long time I've just gotten into putting
- 28:54pepper on my food the past couple of years surprisingly but yeah, I'm glad that
- 28:59that like obviously we know that chocolate or that well chocolate too does have
- 29:03a little bit of caffeine, but Coffee is the most overused stimulant in the
- 29:08world but man, there's nothing like a good cup of coffee in the morning and
- 29:14Luckily research has shown that coffee actually has a ton of health benefits as
- 29:19well Specifically for things like dementia and liver health Dan likes to remind
- 29:25me every day because the man can drink like five cups of coffee My mom
- 29:29generally believing that detox is actually work aka drinking protein shakes and
- 29:33not any eating anything for two weeks No, thank you.
- 29:36And this goes back again to the what we talked about in the beginning how what
- 29:40we were told at a certain time wasn't necessarily Given to us like bad advice
- 29:46wasn't given on purpose It was just what was going on then what we knew then
- 29:50and so I feel like our moms Especially in like the 80s and the 90s Really fell
- 29:55for a lot of things that looking back now.
- 29:57I'm like man.
- 29:58I'm really sorry that you
