- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hey everyone, welcome to the Bum, like five cast I am Alyssa Volbo, your host, welcome to the show.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_01]: It is a, it's a crazy time of year.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: It is the summer.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_01]: I say that all the time, because I feel like we're either in the holidays, or school starting, or it's ending, or like, it's just always like this, and right now we're the middle of the summer.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: And...
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: It is the time when people either are going on vacation more, which is fine, which is totally what we do.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: Go on vacation more, we're eating out more, we're traveling more, we're not on our normal.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I just want to give this one piece of advice, and then I'll introduce our guest, and then we'll go on from there.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: I just want to bring this to a level of awareness for you of like how much are things changing for the summary for you right now and how much is that going to impact you come fall when everything slows down.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: what parts of your travel can you tweak?
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: How and when can you pack food?
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: Make your own.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: If you are in an Airbnb, can you not go out to eat more?
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: Can you make food there?
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: Can you find a local gym and still just fit it in?
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: Adjust your goals right now because I know I have to.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: In the summertime, that is not the time for me to be like on my grind and see how much muscle I can put on and cut up.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like no, I have been doing that since February.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: Right now is a time for me to just kind of like maintain.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: Do the best I can and then I know like come August I hit the ground running again.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_01]: It sets us up for success and not failure when we think of it that way when we can be like, okay, I'm going to be realistic.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: This is my goal then when I do away in or I check in and I'm like.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_01]: not where I'm expected to be.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: And if I've put on a couple of pounds or my muscle hasn't changed, I'm not mad at myself.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like no, this was the goal, Melissa.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_01]: You knew you had intention you were aware.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: You got clarity on this.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: And it's okay.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think a lot of people get into trouble when they're like, every way and they're like, why aren't I down more weight?
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Why isn't this happening?
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: Well, what was your expectations for the summer?
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I do work with a lot of teachers or a lot of people that are like, no, this is the time for me to get really clear with my workouts in my gym.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, awesome.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: Is your goal to lose 10 pounds then?
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: perfect than what does your routine need to look like, even when you're traveling, set your expectations so your actions can match your expectations.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: They have to go hand in hand.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: That is my biggest piece of advice for you.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: And today's episode we're talking about emotional clarity.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: We're talking about that awareness.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: She says at one point in the episode I wrote it down here.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: She said it like during the change like you can preserve things during changes and during hard times and I was like Oh my god, I wish I would have heard that years ago, especially when I was like going through my divorce and other really hard things like well hold on You don't have to lose yourself
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'm saying that now because I want you to remind yourself that as you're traveling, as you're going through really hard season right now, as you're doing things like there's change something's going on, you can preserve you.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: There are things that you can preserve through all of this.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to completely lose yourself in whatever sense that means to you.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was really, really powerful.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: And this is the other thing she said,
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: You're just building the next best version of yourself.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like, that's right.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just building the next version of myself.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what, for me, and like the summer, the version that I'm building right now, that person learns how to be like calm, cool and collected and know how to just do maintenance during the summer months.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: That's me.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: Hi, that's the version I'm building right now.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's cool.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: So our guest today is Stacey Schifflet.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: and she knows what it looks like to have a full accomplished life that somehow still feels like it's missing something.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: Stacey knows this well and she built a whole body of work around figuring out why and Stacey Schiffle is the founder of Modern Consciousness which has happened.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: to check out.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: And Amazon's bestselling author, Treasure Map, to Joy.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: Through her clarity sequence, she helps high achieving women cut through the noise and see what's actually driving the results.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: Now what should be working, but what is working and what isn't.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, the conversation today was so good on this, you guys.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: Her approach is practical, honest, and zero-fluff.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: So happy to have Stacy on the show.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: So go to the show notes, check it out.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_01]: Her book is a great summer read.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not huge.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's not massive, but it's very, very powerful.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: So go to the show notes, click the link.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: We'll put that there for you.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: Get it read it by the pool and start learning the treasure map to your joy.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: All right, everyone enjoy the show.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: Hey guys, welcome to the show Stacey Schifflet.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: I am so excited that you are here.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: You are the guru of emotional clarity.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: girl is going to be a good conversation I hope so yeah I've got some new info on that too that I'm I'm going to share with you my personal experience and I'm going through wow what a learning experience do we get to be like the first to hear it yes actually first I do I love it when we get to be the first of something okay so everyone already heard how like fabulous and fantastic you are in the introduction to this show but I have to say
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like there are more and more women that are like high-achieving, you know, really doing good.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: Women are just taking charge of their life, working really hard in everything, but, you know, they're still really stuck.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_01]: They really still, they don't feel satisfied.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like, something is missing.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: And this is literally like the type of people that you speak to that
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think that, I think a lot of it is, you know, we keep operating on decisions we made years ago, sometimes even decades ago, right?
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: We just keep going, we just keep going and going, and we keep making new decisions, and we accept new responsibilities, and, you know, we do all that without really ever stopping to gain an understanding of the full landscape of our life, you know, we're not taught to do that.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: no.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: We're taught to be like a certain role, be a certain person, especially women.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: We're taught to like sit there, be polite, look pretty.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's what you do.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: Often.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, all the time.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: And me having like three girls, I got to be careful that I'm not continuing that message on with them.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I want them to go out and and rock the boat and really understand what's going on, but we're just, like you said, we're not taught that I have to ask like, how did you get into this?
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: How did like emotional clarity become the thing that you focus on?
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: and teach about.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, because it's your whole world now.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you wrote on this, you speak on this, everything.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: How did that start for you?
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: It started with me in 2012 when a 28-year marriage imploded.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: when eight years.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I had to make a decision.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: It was time for me to make a decision because nobody else was going to do that for me.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: And it was time to, um, it was time to leave the marriage.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: And so that, you know, a lot of women have been through that and we know how disruptive that is.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: And that's, you know, that's part of,
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: the theme in my book treasure map to joy right we think it's going to destroy us but it's really a disruption right disruption is not the same as destruction.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: We will get through it if we allow ourselves to right so that's really what set me about it took me about two years into my divorce.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: Um, before I was really like, oh my god, stay.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I mean, I was busy.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: I was traveling.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: I was out party with friends.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: I ramped up my social life.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know, all these things.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: And then I was like, I've still got all this resentment and anger.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: And you know what they say when we get tired of our own BS, that's when we do something about it.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: And I was realizing that I was still stuck in grief and stuck in some of these emotions.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I went about, um,
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: really jumping in the pool of personal development in a very big way, kind of geeky at heart, right, I'm a good analyst and I like to understand things and so I went into it to understand myself better, but I had this overarching reason for some odd reason that part of that mission for me was really to understand the human condition in general, right, not just me, but the human condition in
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: So, after all those years of intense personal development work, including like two years as a platinum partner with 20 Robins and, you know, I've taught so many different things and gotten so many different sort of occasions and work with so many different people, you know, I had this vision come to me for my company Modern Consciousness and a program.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: I'm called Elevate Your Life and then I have taken the first two pieces of that because I think they are so often under look overlooked and that is getting clarity right clarity on where you are.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then what are your aspirations?
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I put the aspirations not in terms of achievements because that's normally what we do, right?
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: We look at it as an external achievement.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: But how do you want to feel in your life?
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: So I think back to your original question, I think that women get this disconnect between what they're doing and achieving and how they think they should be feeling and experiencing life.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: but that's not what's really happening.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: That's not their experience.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: They're experiencing some frustration and a number of emotions and their little voice keeps going.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's not as fast.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: Stop, stop, stop.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: We just like shove it down.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: We like ignore it because they're like, no, no, no, no, that's normal.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: We just like push that little annoying net.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, probably it gets, if you ignore it, it gets louder and louder.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_00]: Until it becomes a crisis.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: And we don't have to have a crisis.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: You said, you got to know, like, and have clarity of where you're at.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I have to say, like, I think that scares people.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: I think that would probably be really scary for some people of getting crystal clear of where they're at right now in their life because
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: they probably don't like it and you know if they don't know what to do about it.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: What do I do with that information?
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: And you know part of part of the topic that I wanted to get into today with us too is you know there's a lot of there's a lot of talk about clarity.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: And we think, oh, clarity is going to bring certainty, relief, and peace.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's sometimes it does, but sometimes it doesn't, right?
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: It brings, it creates a lot of uncertainty, grief, and difficult decisions.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: My deciding to divorce is one of those, right?
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: I was very clear that that's what I needed to do.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: at that point at time before, you know, before I developed any of this.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: But, oh my god, did that create a lot of uncertainty and grief.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: It was a difficult decision.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, there's, there's a lot of things that create that, right?
- 11:56[SPEAKER_00]: If our career no longer fits.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: a friendship.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if we have a really close friendship, a best friend, and that ends, that creates that.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: If we need to evolve our business and we don't know how, and where I'm at, now is having made the decision to complete a chapter of life and start a new one.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm on the completing side, and I knew the first step to take to start to do that, and it was aligned in
- 12:27[SPEAKER_00]: But that's all I know is the first step.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I have a lot of uncertainty.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_00]: I'm experiencing, I'm experiencing a lot of grief.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm experiencing more healing, right?
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: Cause things come up.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: And it's kind of an interesting place to be in.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: So what I'm going to talk about where you're like, I have news about this.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going through this right now.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I, I have a home on CS to key in Florida.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: And it's, it's absolutely studying.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's beautiful.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's my favorite favorite place on earth.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm maintaining two homes.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: Because I have another home in Virginia.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, we do things like hurricanes in Florida.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I've had property in Florida for decades.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm getting older and I'm having some vision issues that I'm working with Johns Hopkins on.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's impacting my daily life, because I can't always just get in the car and go where I want when I want.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a lot of things.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: My son is here in Virginia.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I made a conscious decision to sell the home that I love.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: It is absolutely my favorite place on earth.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: And it's a big decision.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I made it so thoroughly that I actually exited the home.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: right because if I remove all my personal things and leave the house, you know, so I've released it energetically.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: I have opened it to new people that come in that can see themselves there instead of seeing me there, right?
- 13:54[SPEAKER_00]: But there's a lot of uncertainty with that, right?
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: There's uncertainty with the real estate market.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm back here in Virginia, which is not necessarily my favorite place, although I lived here for decades as well.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what the next chapter
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: is that first step now there's a million little pieces in that first step and I have to remind myself that the rest of it will evolve as it should in the timing that it's going to evolve in right I have no control
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: over any of that.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't really know what the next chapter of my life is going to look like, and that's a little bit, I get to design it, but I have some vision issues like I said.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: My vision and vestibular system and all they don't talk to each other that well.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, in our state driving, I'm not doing that right now, you know, two years ago, after the hurricane hit my house, I could get in the car and drive to Florida.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_00]: Can't do that now.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: So, there's different considerations and a lot of unknowns, and it's bringing up, it's bringing up a lot for me, right?
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: It brings up,
- 14:58[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if we are changing a chapter in our lives or we're making these big decisions, you know, there is grief, we don't necessarily have certainty.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: We don't necessarily have people that are going to reassure us that everything is going to be okay.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: right in a meaningful way.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: We don't necessarily have somebody external that can validate what we're doing.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_00]: We have to lean into that and know that for ourselves.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: We know ourselves the best and we have to lean into that and it will eventually bring some some relief.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't mean it's not necessarily easy.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's difficult but it's still something
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I'm going to play Devils Advocate of the listener if someone's in there driving the car.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: They're on the way to work and they're like, they know they have to do this next step and they're going, but Stacy, how, how did you get so clear on this step that you knew had to happen, but you didn't like it like, how, where do I start to get this clarity to have the confidence to make this decision knowing that the second step is terrifying?
- 16:08[SPEAKER_00]: It is.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I use my program, right?
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: My clarity sequence program really evolved from me.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: And it's, it's a, you know, it's, it's a matter of if you don't ask the right questions, you don't get the right answers.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: So the first piece of this two-part program, which you can, you don't have to do it with me.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's set up so that you can just do it in the privacy with you yourself and I, right?
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it guides you through a lot of different questions because we have to really dive into each area of your life and figure out, okay, what am I experiencing right now in my relationship?
- 16:42[SPEAKER_00]: What am I experiencing in my home?
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: What am I experiencing with my health?
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: And to really start going into detail to understand what's working really well in those areas and what you want to preserve, we also forget that we can preserve things when we're making change and we need to be clear about those things.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: And then what is causing us issues and why, right?
- 17:11[SPEAKER_00]: We need to understand why, because often times we think we know why, but we really don't.
- 17:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's not the right problem, right?
- 17:18[SPEAKER_00]: So we try to solve the wrong problem.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: And if something's going on in one area of your life, it's sneaky.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: It shows up in other areas, but it disguises itself.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like something completely different.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: Remember reading that some I think it was like in your bio, but like how people Okay, what did you say was something like we really we think we're approaching and it's tacking the right problem and we're not we're like finance not.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, often it's it's not You said something else too that I thought was really cool.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: I wrote this down.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like literally going to put it on a sweatshirt You said preserve things you can preserve things during the change
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, my God, I could take that in so many different directions because I went through divorce two, 17 years, so not as long as yours, but three kids, 17 years, literally starting my entire life over and thinking about that.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: And if I would have heard that, that would have helped so much of like, well, let's say you can still preserve you through all of this.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: You can still preserve your happy home and like your children and your family unit that you're growing them, you know,
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that was an important change.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, you know, when we look, you know, so often when we're, you know, because we all complain, my, oh my God, I wish this, I wish that we're always looking for the thing to change.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_00]: What do I need to change to make my life better?
- 18:44[SPEAKER_00]: But you don't want to lose.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: what you value most as you make those changes.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: So it's also very important to get clear on what you value.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: For example, a peaceful family life at home with a husband, if that's not working without a husband.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you can still preserve that.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: It may look different.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: So what does that need to look like for you for this season of life?
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: And the things that are important to us tend to evolve over the seasons of our lives as well, right?
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: We may have been career oriented 150% for years, and that may have created a lot of good outcomes, but we don't want to dedicate all of ourselves to that area of our life anymore, because other areas were suffering in other ways.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: So we've lost what we, so the outcome that we really wanted to achieve and the things that we thought we would be preserving and creating in our life didn't necessarily come about because we're wobbly and we're putting all of our focus in this other area that has pulled things out of balance.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: I tell my clients this all the time of like figuring out with their health and fitness journey like what they value and you said that like you have to figure out what you value first.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I see this like in the health and fitness days too of like so many women don't
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: value themselves.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: It sounds weird and crazy saying that of like, what, how can people like not value themselves?
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: But when I see someone and they come into me and they are just treating their body like a human garbage can.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: They're not going out for walks.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: They're not paying attention to how they let other people speak to them and the energy they come in.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, my God, girl.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: Where is your self-value?
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: What do you hold sacred?
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of women, they're clueless.
- 20:43[SPEAKER_01]: They don't see this.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: They don't realize it.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, we can't even move forward and work on a healthier, healed version of you until you know what do you hold sacred?
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: What do you value in your life right now?
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think a lot of women are givers, and we're so used to giving and saying yes and doing for others that we forget that none of that works without us being healthy and happy and joyful and content.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I think at peace, right?
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think peace of mind is our greatest personal asset.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: You have to have knowledge.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: That's the prerequisite, right?
- 21:21[SPEAKER_00]: You don't know what you don't know.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_00]: So learn.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you're, yourself will guide you on what book you're drawn to or what speaker you want to listen to or podcast or what have you, you know, learn things that are outside of your personal world view and gain a bigger perspective, but it's not just the knowledge, right?
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen so many people go to events and they come out, they are super charged and I'm going to change 7,932 things come Monday and I'm going to do this and I'm going to do that.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: they don't have the tools to do incremental change.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_00]: So you have to go slow.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: So you have to embody what you're learning and my version of personal development is just creating the next best version of yourself over and over and over again.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: I love that.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: it makes it so simple.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, I'm going to totally tell that to my daughters.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's small steps.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: Chunk it down, small steps.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: I learned small steps.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: I used to have a llama farm too.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: I've done so many different things and been in so many different industries.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my god, I'm like, that's him, llama.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, llama.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_00]: Did you think you'd meet somebody that raised
- 22:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I learned at training the babies and even sharing them sometimes, right?
- 22:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I was out there sharing a llama and she just wasn't having any of it.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_00]: And I was about a quarter of the way through and I thought, you know, there is no rule that I have to finish sharing this llama today.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: She's not happy.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not happy.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_00]: Somebody's going to get hurt.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_00]: Um, not that they're violent animals.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're, you know, but still if they're annoyed and in the shoot, you know, you can get kicked or whatever.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, um, chunk it down, do a little bit at a time.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody stays happy, but I mostly learn that we're training the babies, right?
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: Because you, you don't just throw a halter on and latch it and put a lead on and drag them around, you know, so I would hold the lead out and and just let them, or the halter and let them sniff it and see what it was.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then I would just take it and tap their news.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, oh, okay, so that's not so scary.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_00]: It touches me now.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: Then I would just do that for a couple of days.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_00]: And then to put the band around their news, take it off, oh, mom, what'd you do?
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: And then they don't care, oh, okay, that's not scary.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: And it's the same thing with us, right?
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: If we do things in small incremental consistent steps, forgive ourselves when we take a step back, or even too, because we always will, you know?
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's how we make progress, and that's how we implement change in our lives.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: And so many people are just like, give it to me now, tell me what to do.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna do this.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna change that.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna start eating this,
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: whoa, one thing, one thing, pick one thing and stick with it.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: I just asked someone this the other day it's so funny.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: I always bring everything back to weight training and lifting and how so just go with it, Stacey.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: That's what you did.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yes, but this I asked a client the other day.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, hey, you know, are you sore from your workout?
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: We were like in a group chat and she's like, no, not really.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like,
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, what do you think you need to change?
- 24:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like, why do you think you don't like feel at the next day or anything, not that that's 100% important?
- 24:46[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, do you think you need to do more reps?
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: More weight?
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: Do you need to do another set?
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, what needs to change here?
- 24:53[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, all of it.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, everything you just listed, I probably need to change all of it.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: She's like, so I'll do that in my next workout.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: I want you to pick one thing and focus on one thing to do.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe that's your, you're gonna do the next dumbbell up with that and just pay attention to that.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: I don't worry about like your sets are how many reps you do.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: I just want you to work to a failure.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: And she's like, oh, really?
- 25:18[SPEAKER_01]: But you said all these things, we know those are all things to like consider, but I want you to just take one baby step towards it.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: And then she was like, Oh my god, it totally worked.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: Now we can implement something else.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we're such over achievers, right?
- 25:31[SPEAKER_00]: We want to do it now.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, now.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: And people too.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: Do you work with people or see this happen?
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: Where if it's like not perfect.
- 25:42[SPEAKER_01]: then oh yeah like what's the point like if I can't do it all or you know it doesn't look exactly how it's supposed to look then like what's even the point yeah it's you know it's such an interesting phenomenon I mean you know because we forget that we've had to learn absolutely everything that we know and like absolutely everything
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: it's a social and walk we couldn't drive a car we couldn't ride a bike right and then it becomes second nature so you know we we have to learn that and we have to you know awareness is key right it's such a key like I'll give you a good deal yes I've I've had a few days here since you know
- 26:23[SPEAKER_00]: shifting from Florida to Virginia and, you know, I've just felt like miserable and not, you know, I'm here with my son and he's so delighted to have me here and he's so helpful and he knows it's a big change for me and, you know, I can't say, oh my god, I, oh I hate it here, right, you know, how sometimes when you're frustrated, you say something and you're just you're over generalizing and you're just like, oh, I hate it here, right, you know, we all do that, can't say that.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_00]: That's I, you know, if I'm alone in my room and I need to scream or hit a pillow, or write, you know, get it off your chest.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's one thing.
- 26:56[SPEAKER_00]: But we have to be conscious of the way of, you know, obviously the language that we're speaking, right?
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: I can say those things go, oh, clear cancel, right?
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's eight.
- 27:04[SPEAKER_00]: These are the five good things about this.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we could certainly change our minds, said, and work on ourselves.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_00]: But sometimes we just need to get the frustration out.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: But be careful how you do that because you impact others, right?
- 27:17[SPEAKER_00]: Because even when him did they go, oh my god, I hate that you hate that you're here with me.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: And that's not, that's not it.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so when, and that would make the whole situation worse, that would make
- 27:37[SPEAKER_00]: So we have to be conscious of these things and that's where awareness comes in and taking a pause and just thinking about the consequences of what we're thinking and saying.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_00]: Now, if you need to go ahead of pillow, go ahead of pillow.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_00]: If you need to have a good cry, go have a good cry.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: I've had a few of those in this last couple weeks, but you got to get it out.
- 28:06[SPEAKER_00]: Is it that I hate the situation?
- 28:08[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm craving a lot of things.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm leaving a home that I knew would not be my permanent home.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm 69 years old.
- 28:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'll be 70 next year.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot of responsibility.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm single.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'm on my own.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's waterfront property of maintaining two homes.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so I have to bring myself and and remind myself for the reasons which are good valid reasons.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there's still a lot of emotions that come with that.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't just because I have clarity on the decision doesn't mean I don't have that I have certainty.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: Right, clarity doesn't necessarily equal certainty.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's got to turn up, you know, I feel like I, you know, you said, what was it?
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't watch it, but how's wise of whatever, you know, with the table, right?
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like I've done that to my life, right?
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: Just go, okay, let's just flip it, right?
- 28:58[SPEAKER_00]: I've actually have done that before in my life made major major changes that were
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, huge.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I got through those okay.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: We usually get through all of our difficult times okay.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I'm doing.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_01]: We have survived everything.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: Every thing.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: If you really think about it like there hasn't been one thing or one situation that you haven't made it through.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: even though at the time you thought like, this is it.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is the end.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: This is what takes me out.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: This will be the end of, yes, whatever.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: And no, that's not true.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: We've made it through everything.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: And that awareness and like everything that you're describing right now, I always tell my clients and my kids too, I'm always going through, okay, is it's fact or feelings?
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: Separate all of the facts and everything you're listing about your side and your home and and the maintenance and like everything those are like solid facts those they're not going to change And we're very you know emotionally driven we don't have that emotional clarity A lot of things and then those emotions drive us and just pausing and putting things like in two boxes and was like what are just your feelings because it's not fact
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's not 100% concrete and then what are the facts?
- 30:17[SPEAKER_01]: And then go from there.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I just, I love it.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: How with this emotional clarity, do you have, and it's probably like in your program, is it modern consciousness?
- 30:28[SPEAKER_01]: No, you're, okay.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_00]: is that the program is called the Clarity Sequence, I've a bigger piece of that.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_00]: I've a bigger piece that continues after that, but yes, a Clarity Sequence.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I was trying to think of.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: Mm-hmm.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: Is there steps?
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like everything is like, how does that work?
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: Break that down for us and like how people can actually get to that level of clarity with your program?
- 30:49[SPEAKER_00]: It involves taking a good vulnerable look at yourself, right?
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: So actually what I do, I give you this big work document that has every all these questions in it and all, you know, we look at the different dimensions of your life.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I call them, you know, the different aspects of your life, the domains, I guess, right?
- 31:09[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, there's some general broad questions and then, you know, what it does is it invites you
- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: with yourself be vulnerable and honest with yourself so that you can really gain an understanding of where you are at.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's the first piece.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's called the assessment.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_00]: And it's something that you can do in the privacy of your own home, right?
- 31:34[SPEAKER_00]: If you want to print it out and write, if you're more, if you're happy or writing and journaling, you take the document and do that.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_00]: I like to work on the computer.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_00]: I actually give you an editable document.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_00]: and you can work on it in Word or whatever so that it takes you through the process of thinking about each area what's good, what's frustrating you there's a lot of questions.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: Again, if you don't ask the right questions, you don't get the right answers.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_00]: So I invite you to sit with all of these questions and really think about it and consider it I think grabbing your first answer is awesome because that's often your subconscious even if you go my God, where did that come from right like where did that come from but I also
- 32:21[SPEAKER_00]: encourage people to really sit with it at a deep level, contemplate it if you're having trouble with the question, say, okay, meditate on it or go to bed that night and say, okay, I'm setting an intention that I need the answer to this question, right?
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: you have the answers.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have your answers.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: I can help you find your answers.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: But you have the answers.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know yourself better than anybody else.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: If you allow yourself to step deeply within and be honest and vulnerable with yourself.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: And then the second half of that is okay.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: So now that we understand that, how would you like to be feeling in each area of your life?
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: And again, there's a lot of questions.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there's a lot of questions.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot of thought.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: There's a, you know, an exercise to really understand your strengths, right?
- 33:11[SPEAKER_00]: So often we look only at our weaknesses and I like people to also look at their strengths.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_00]: So it's all in itself guided to part process.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_00]: Hi.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, it's, it's a little bit different.
- 33:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and I'm happy to work with people on it.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: There is an option for that.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: You like do coaching and like would work with them through it.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, to help get to the answers.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: And then there's mentorship that can come after that.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_00]: Say, okay, now that I understand these two things, what do I do next?
- 33:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know, what is the next incremental step that I can take to start to affect these things in an efficient and positive way in your life?
- 33:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so what I find is let's pick a pattern.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: What pattern, what habit do you have that's negatively impacting your life the most?
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because usually there is one, that's such a good question, Stacey.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: And when you can change just that one pattern and put conscious effort into that pattern throughout all the areas of your life, you will be astonished at the change you can create.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, maybe you're, maybe you're so stressed out.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes it's not the obvious thing, right?
- 34:28[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe you're just so tense and so stressed out that you're snapping at everybody, you're snapping at the kids, you're snapping at your partner, you're snapping at people at work, people that work for you, the checkout lady at the grocery store, right?
- 34:41[SPEAKER_00]: So what's creating that pattern in you?
- 34:44[SPEAKER_00]: Let's understand that and then start working on just that.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_00]: And that alone can transform so many things.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_00]: So when I say sometimes it's disguised, right?
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: So it allows us to get a little bit of traction.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_00]: And then once we start getting some traction in, it becomes habit and we automatically check ourselves, right?
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: We'll have a thought or something.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_00]: We'll start to come out of our mouth and we go, oh, yeah, no.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then it becomes automatic and you say something, I've done this myself, right?
- 35:12[SPEAKER_00]: I react to a situation in a different way, say something.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_00]: that was me right that was that's that was not to me from 10 years ago or 15 years ago, but now that is me.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_00]: And then you pick the next thing and the next thing and the next thing and it's life changing.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: My God, as you're talking, like I can picture how I've literally done this so many times in my life of just like picking something of like, and it's hard to admit when you do something that's a habit and it's daily that you're doing something that's bad for you every single day and it's like you know it because it's like, well, I would never do anything that would be bad for me and like, what do you mean?
- 35:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like,
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: really blaming on this circumstance.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm just stressed.
- 36:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's just there's too much going on at work or there's this or there's that.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_00]: Those are all external reasons.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_00]: We take ourselves everywhere we go.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: We are the one constant in our life.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_00]: So who do you want to be with?
- 36:13[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you want to be with a miserable person or you want to be with somebody that's, you know, joyful and you know, doesn't mean you don't ever grieve or cry or, you know, right get upset, but you know, there are there are ways to deal with all of those negative for lack of a better word situations in a more positive gentler way.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like for example, I wine, you know, I know so many women that still do it or have like come to my program and they have one, two or more glasses every night.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: And they're like, but this is just my one thing, Melissa.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_01]: I kept my macros in check.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: I eat super healthy and clean.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_01]: I went to the gym and this is just the one thing.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, but how toxic and damaging is this one thing?
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then now you're only relying on the wine to bring yourself into a calm space.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_01]: You can't do that on your own.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, pick a different helmet, meditate, learn something, right?
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: Something, besides the neurotoxin every single night, you know?
- 37:17[SPEAKER_01]: I'm hard on him, Stacey.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we don't realize it because we're so involved with it, you know, it's like seeing the force for the trees, right?
- 37:26[SPEAKER_00]: We're in the middle of it, and we don't, and we don't know.
- 37:29[SPEAKER_00]: And if somebody reflects something back to us, we get offended.
