- 2:03SPEAKER_00: According to a recent Gallup report, employee engagement in the As of early this year, only 30% of U.S.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: employees are actively engaged in their work.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Let that sink in for a minute.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: That means less than a third of our workforce feels enthusiastic and connected to their jobs.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: So where is everyone else?
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Well, about 17% are actively disengaged, meaning they're resentful that their needs aren't being met and are acting out on their unhappiness.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: And the rest, they're just there.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: See, this isn't just about Yes, that's with a T,$1.9 trillion annually in lost productivity alone.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: And engagement is only half of the story.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: The twin crisis is burnout.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: As of last year, a staggering 69% of workers reported that they experienced a loss of productivity.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: And we're not just talking about being tired.

- 3:40SPEAKER_00: insufficient opportunities for growth, and the lingering stress from the shift to remote and hybrid work, which has left many employees feeling disconnected from their organization's mission.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Okay, so that's the what, a workforce that is more disengaged and burnt out than it has been in 10 years.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: Now that we have the data, let's talk about the human side of the story.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: In my own research, I heard things that were truly heartbreaking.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: One person told me in My family gets what I have left, not my best.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Another was told by their doctor that their job was, and I quote, killing them after their blood pressure became dangerously high from workplace stress.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: This isn't just about productivity numbers.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: It's about people's lives.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: The impact of these stressors is predictable.

- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Fixing this isn't about huge expensive programs.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: It's simply about listening.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: See, I love this story from an article in the Harvard Business Review.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: At a university, a music faculty leader spent their entire annual improvement budget on a fancy new soundproof studio.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Nothing.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: See, engagement was low and some faculty didn't even show up to the ribbon cutting.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Well, because nobody asked them what they needed.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: What they really needed were new music stands, which would have cost only$300.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: See, the old ones were broken and the students' sheet music was constantly falling on the floor.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: So for just$300 and a simple conversation, leadership could have shown they cared, solved a real problem, and kept That's the inspiration.
