- 0:00Speaker 1: For me was when I stopped using it.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 0:02Speaker 1: Then I stopped meditating.
- 0:03Speaker 3: And then I realized like, I was again, anxious and,
- 0:07Speaker 3: and had like, you know, these, these kind of like
- 0:08Speaker 3: pent up feelings and I wasn't drinking, I wasn't doing
- 0:11Speaker 3: drugs and Adderall or anything. I said, well, what has changed?
- 0:15Speaker 3: What has changed over the past couple of weeks or whatever?
- 0:18Speaker 3: And I looked back and I was like, it was
- 0:21Speaker 3: the meditation. And I was actually irritated.
- 0:25Speaker 2: This is Wake Up With Marci, a space for honest
- 0:28Speaker 2: conversations about healing, recovery, and women's wellness. I'm Marci Hopkins.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Take a breath. You're safe here. Let's begin. Have you
- 0:41Speaker 2: ever thought, if I could just find the right thing,
- 0:43Speaker 2: I'd finally feel better? For Brandon Hanley, that search for
- 0:48Speaker 2: relief led him to what he calls a silver bullet,
- 0:51Speaker 2: prescription Adderall. But the pill wasn't the answer. And that
- 0:56Speaker 2: realization forced him to ask a much deeper question. What
- 1:00Speaker 2: am I really looking for? Today, we're getting honest about
- 1:04Speaker 2: what happens when life isn't working. What we're really searching
- 1:08Speaker 2: for when desperately we just want relief. And how to
- 1:12Speaker 2: stop letting fear run our lives. This is Wake Up
- 1:16Speaker 2: With Marci. Welcome all to Wake Up With Marci. I'm
- 1:20Speaker 2: so grateful you are here today. I'm Marci Hopkins, your host, author,
- 1:24Speaker 2: TV host, creator of Wake Up With Marci, motivational speaker,
- 1:28Speaker 2: mental health advocate, and a woman in long-term recovery. I'm
- 1:33Speaker 2: almost 11 years sober, and that is why I do
- 1:36Speaker 2: the work that I do. And on this show, we
- 1:39Speaker 2: have honest conversations about healing, recovery, relationships, self-discovery, and what
- 1:45Speaker 2: it really takes to change our lives. My guest today
- 1:49Speaker 2: is Brandon G. Hanley. He's the founder of Spirit of
- 1:53Speaker 2: the Deal and host of the Spirit of the Deal podcast. Today,
- 1:58Speaker 2: Brandon works with breathwork, consciousness, mindset, and what he calls
- 2:03Speaker 2: state shifting to help people move through fear and change
- 2:07Speaker 2: the patterns that are keeping them stuck. But his work
- 2:11Speaker 2: grew out of his own search for answers. Now let's
- 2:15Speaker 2: welcome Brandon. Hello, Brandon. Welcome to Wake Up With Marci.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Marci, so glad to be here with you today.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I'm grateful you are here. I'm excited about our conversation.
- 2:27Speaker 2: And let me tell you, breathwork has been something that
- 2:32Speaker 2: has saved me. I continue to use it almost daily.
- 2:38Speaker 2: So I'm really excited to hear how you're helping others
- 2:41Speaker 2: with breathwork.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm Looking forward to sharing.
- 2:46Speaker 3: I think the funny part for me that I'll share
- 2:49Speaker 3: with you right off the bat is it was something
- 2:51Speaker 3: that I had zero interest in. Zero interest in learning.
- 2:57Speaker 3: And now I'm kind of like shouting from the top
- 2:59Speaker 3: of the hill about it.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Isn't that the way? Listen, I'm doing stuff I never
- 3:03Speaker 2: thought I would do. Just listen for the calling. Just
- 3:08Speaker 2: leave it that way.
- 3:09Speaker 3: That's right.
- 3:10Speaker 2: But Brandon, there was a time that you were struggling
- 3:14Speaker 2: in life. And you were seeking relief. And one of
- 3:18Speaker 2: the things that you saw is what you call the
- 3:21Speaker 2: silver bullet. And that was prescription Adderall. So can you
- 3:26Speaker 2: take us back to that time and what was happening
- 3:30Speaker 2: in your life? What were you trying to fix?
- 3:34Speaker 3: Yeah. So, you know, this goes back to a time when,
- 3:38Speaker 3: you know, I was working in a Fortune 500 company.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Everybody in there was super smart, super bright. Everybody seemed
- 3:48Speaker 3: to have everything together. And here I was, you know, uh,
- 3:52Speaker 3: very little college little, I'd actually dropped out of high school,
- 3:56Speaker 3: went back to college later and got a GED, but like,
- 3:58Speaker 3: I just didn't feel like I fit in the I
- 4:00Speaker 3: felt part of what I was missing was if only
- 4:03Speaker 3: I could learn how to focus really, really well. I
- 4:07Speaker 3: just felt like that was the thing for me. We
- 4:10Speaker 3: all know about ADHD, and we know there are specific
- 4:15Speaker 3: answers to questions. I'd heard about this thing called Adderall.
- 4:19Speaker 3: We go way back even further. Adderall is some type
- 4:23Speaker 3: of amphetamine. I was like, well, I'm familiar.
- 4:26Speaker 1: That should do it.
- 4:27Speaker 3: If we can get somebody to prescribe it for us,
- 4:29Speaker 3: all the better. And so I was like, all right, well,
- 4:32Speaker 3: let's call around and just see if I can find
- 4:35Speaker 3: somebody to give me the prescription, right? Literally, you know,
- 4:39Speaker 3: there's what they call prescription shopping, right? All around to
- 4:42Speaker 3: all of these wellness centers. And they're like, well, can
- 4:47Speaker 3: you give us a little bit of background information on
- 4:49Speaker 3: what it is that you're about and what you're doing
- 4:51Speaker 3: and what you're seeking? I said, well, listen, I have
- 4:54Speaker 3: done a little research on this. And here's what I'm
- 4:56Speaker 3: going to tell you right now. I was like, first
- 4:57Speaker 3: of all, like, I drank. I still drank a lot.
- 5:03Speaker 3: I don't see that changing. I don't exercise ever. I
- 5:06Speaker 3: don't see that changing. I don't have any other good, really,
- 5:09Speaker 3: I have like zero good habits at this point in
- 5:10Speaker 3: my life. And I don't see that changing. I just
- 5:13Speaker 3: want the silver bullet. You want to make them smaller, right?
- 5:16Speaker 3: Just give me that one.
- 5:18Speaker 1: They're like, well, maybe you should call back. Until I
- 5:20Speaker 1: got a hold.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Of of a psychiatrist and I was able to go
- 5:24Speaker 3: in and it was a funny thing to me. And
- 5:26Speaker 3: I still make fun of this person. They gave me
- 5:28Speaker 3: a form to fill out and it was literally like
- 5:31Speaker 3: a copy of a book page. Like, you know, like the,
- 5:35Speaker 3: the shadow of the bend in the book was in
- 5:38Speaker 3: the copy. I was like, just give me the, just
- 5:40Speaker 3: give me the thing.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Anyway, I fill it out.
- 5:43Speaker 3: I get the prescriptions and it does not go well. Right.
- 5:46Speaker 3: It doesn't go well. I do end up getting a
- 5:49Speaker 3: lot of focus, but like none of the focus was
- 5:52Speaker 3: on good stuff.
- 5:54Speaker 1: What do I mean by that?
- 5:55Speaker 3: Like I became, for some reason, I became like hypercritical
- 5:59Speaker 3: of like my wife and my children, right? Like I
- 6:01Speaker 3: was focusing on like these little things that were like,
- 6:04Speaker 3: that wasn't going well. Yeah. For some reason, I decided
- 6:08Speaker 3: like darts was the thing I should focus. I mean, Marcy,
- 6:10Speaker 3: I'm your average Joe, right? I'm like, what if we
- 6:14Speaker 3: could just learn how to play darts really well? And like,
- 6:16Speaker 3: I have no idea why that became like this passion
- 6:19Speaker 3: focus for so long. So yeah, I was intensely focused,
- 6:23Speaker 3: but like on nothing that mattered, right? And I don't
- 6:28Speaker 3: know if you've ever done any research on Adderall yourself.
- 6:31Speaker 3: I hadn't like really prior to it, other than to
- 6:33Speaker 3: kind of find out what it's made out of.
- 6:36Speaker 1: But there's something that some people call.
- 6:38Speaker 3: It matter all right. There was a point where like,
- 6:42Speaker 3: I just kind of had like this explosion of like, so.
- 6:45Speaker 2: It would make you angry matter.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Yeah. And so I had this explosion. It was over
- 6:53Speaker 3: like new year's Eve and, and it was not good.
- 6:55Speaker 1: And it was like, I just kind of sat there
- 6:57Speaker 1: and I was like, yeah, this, this isn't working.
- 6:58Speaker 3: It's not working. The silver bullet is, is laced with
- 7:03Speaker 3: no good. Yeah.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, Okay. I got to unpack a few things here. Yeah. Like,
- 7:11Speaker 2: I mean, first of all, well, let's go back a
- 7:15Speaker 2: little bit. Like obviously there was something going on in
- 7:20Speaker 2: your life for you to not to have finished high school.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Right.
- 7:26Speaker 2: And, and then then college, but you went back and
- 7:31Speaker 2: now you're in, you're in this great company. And you're
- 7:36Speaker 2: at the table, but you're like many of us, you
- 7:40Speaker 2: having that imposter syndrome, right? So what for you, what
- 7:44Speaker 2: was happening when you were growing up? What, what kind
- 7:49Speaker 2: of derailed you?
- 7:51Speaker 3: I guess it's tough to say really. I mean, look,
- 7:53Speaker 3: we moved around a lot growing.
- 7:54Speaker 1: Up as a kid.
- 7:55Speaker 3: I didn't have a traditional nuclear family. My mom was,
- 8:00Speaker 3: you know, a hippie as well. So you know, you
- 8:03Speaker 3: kind of combine all that stuff. And I just didn't
- 8:05Speaker 3: feel the same as a lot of these other kids
- 8:07Speaker 3: out there.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:08Speaker 3: Or, you know, a lot of what I've learned wasn't
- 8:11Speaker 3: in alignment with, you know, the direction of the world, right. Your,
- 8:15Speaker 3: your traditional ambitions, your traditional, like, you know, grind it
- 8:19Speaker 3: all out, get out there and make a bunch of
- 8:21Speaker 3: money and be your best, gosh, darn it kind of thing.
- 8:23Speaker 3: That wasn't, wasn't what I had as I wouldn't even
- 8:28Speaker 3: want to call it instructions. I call it like loose guidelines.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And for better, for worse, right. For better, for worse.
- 8:34Speaker 3: Cause I certainly don't look back and blame anyone for anything,
- 8:37Speaker 3: but it's like, this was the, this is what I
- 8:40Speaker 3: had and this is what I ended up doing with it. But, uh,
- 8:42Speaker 3: you know, I still recall like at one point, like
- 8:45Speaker 3: I was, I don't know about you Marcy, but I
- 8:46Speaker 3: did not love school.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I didn't love school.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Um, and so like my mom was always like, you know,
- 8:53Speaker 3: just do your best, like at least get a C
- 8:55Speaker 3: just get by. Yeah. Right. And that kind of like,
- 8:58Speaker 3: I don't know if that like became my motto or whatever,
- 9:00Speaker 3: but I was like, Let's just get by. Like, why
- 9:02Speaker 3: are we like trying to kill ourselves over all this
- 9:04Speaker 3: other stuff?
- 9:05Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:05Speaker 3: It didn't make sense to me. So there was that.
- 9:07Speaker 3: I would say when I dropped out that I was
- 9:10Speaker 3: probably looking for someone to say, oh, no, don't do that. Yeah.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:16Speaker 1: And nobody did. So we rolled on.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Marcy, like, I mean, we rolled on and, you know,
- 9:23Speaker 3: I don't know that. I think even looking back, I
- 9:25Speaker 3: felt like even just kind of like, wow, nobody cares. Wow.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:30Speaker 2: And that is what we, what we interpret when we're young.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:35Speaker 2: I mean, like we, this starts shaping how we feel
- 9:38Speaker 2: about ourselves. Right. And how we show up in the world.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right. That's right. Like, I mean, to, I
- 9:45Speaker 3: think the, you know, the school's credit, like I ended
- 9:48Speaker 3: up having to come, I dropped out, but I ended
- 9:51Speaker 3: up being able to use their resources like years later
- 9:53Speaker 3: to get some assistance.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:55Speaker 3: With certain things, but look, it's time and error and,
- 9:59Speaker 3: you know, it just kind of was what it was.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I made, I made the path that I made.
- 10:02Speaker 1: And, you know, I don't, you know, I don't regret it.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Like those were all just kind of like these learning,
- 10:06Speaker 3: like bumps and bobs, like in the road.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I mean, absolutely. I look at life that
- 10:11Speaker 2: way now. I didn't, I used to, I used to
- 10:14Speaker 2: be a victim of everything, but, One of the things
- 10:18Speaker 2: you said that you were drinking a lot. Now, you're married, right?
- 10:22Speaker 3: You have kids.
- 10:23Speaker 2: But obviously, you're drinking. You're working. You are not really
- 10:28Speaker 2: taking care of yourself. And you're looking for the easy
- 10:32Speaker 2: way out, which we do. I think that's normal for
- 10:37Speaker 2: a lot of people out there. Because making changes in
- 10:42Speaker 2: your life for the positive is hard work. It is.
- 10:47Speaker 2: We are looking for something that just can help us
- 10:50Speaker 2: right away. And then, so Adderall, right? Like this is
- 10:54Speaker 2: something that is specific for people with ADHD and it
- 11:00Speaker 2: breaks my heart to think that, I mean, dealing with psychiatrists,
- 11:07Speaker 2: whole nother, whole nother show. But just to be able
- 11:11Speaker 2: to fill out a form and to have that prescribed.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And maybe it was the time. Maybe it's not as
- 11:17Speaker 2: easy now. But Adderall is serious. And there are a
- 11:22Speaker 2: lot of kids out there that are using Adderall in
- 11:25Speaker 2: college for the same reasons, right? They're looking to stay up.
- 11:29Speaker 2: They're looking to focus. And if you're not using it
- 11:33Speaker 2: for the right reasons, it backfires on you.
- 11:37Speaker 3: No, 100%.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Look.
- 11:39Speaker 3: We all feel like we're in this crazy competition for
- 11:42Speaker 3: all these crazy, scarce resources or scarce jobs, the job market.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Even like my, my 16 year old, he's like, well,
- 11:49Speaker 3: I heard the job market's really hard, bro. You're 16. Like,
- 11:52Speaker 3: I mean, just like, uh, like knock on doors, get
- 11:55Speaker 3: a job and like, you know, see for yourself. Like,
- 11:58Speaker 3: but instead, you know, I think initially we just take,
- 12:01Speaker 3: we just take what everybody outside is telling us, uh,
- 12:04Speaker 3: as reality, hear things from our peers, friends, air quotes
- 12:10Speaker 3: authorities tell us, oh, the market's really bad. Like, this
- 12:13Speaker 3: is really bad. You know, why should I even bother?
- 12:16Speaker 3: But again, we feel like we're in this mad competition
- 12:19Speaker 3: against everybody. We're at some point almost willing to do whatever.
- 12:22Speaker 3: How are you going to get there? Do whatever it takes, Brandon.
- 12:25Speaker 3: Do whatever it takes.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Right?
- 12:27Speaker 3: So, okay, like, you know, let's just, let's at least
- 12:29Speaker 3: do the Adderall and see if we can get a
- 12:31Speaker 3: leg up. Right? I mean, you know, if it comes
- 12:34Speaker 3: in a pill, it's got to be okay. Right, guys?
- 12:37Speaker 2: Exactly. If it's prescribed. So you were saying you were
- 12:40Speaker 2: looking for relief. Would you say that you were looking
- 12:42Speaker 2: for relief in alcohol also?
- 12:45Speaker 3: So Marcy, one of the places that I teach the
- 12:48Speaker 3: breath work a lot is at recovery centers.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 12:51Speaker 3: And one of the things that if I kind of
- 12:53Speaker 3: look back through the lens, you know, of history, right,
- 12:56Speaker 3: Steve Jobs, the only way to connect the dots is
- 12:58Speaker 3: looking backwards.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I would say that it was that.
- 13:03Speaker 3: It helped to enable community to Right. Help to enable
- 13:09Speaker 3: like and what I mean by that is like, you know,
- 13:11Speaker 3: as we get older, like, you know, if you're not
- 13:13Speaker 3: a member of a church or some like other society,
- 13:17Speaker 3: Rotary Club or some of these other things and like
- 13:19Speaker 3: you don't have these other things, then like at least
- 13:22Speaker 3: you can all go drink together.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Right. It is an easy way to to hang out
- 13:29Speaker 2: with people.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:30Speaker 2: To connect with people in a very surface way. Mm hmm.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Right.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:34Speaker 3: So super easy. Not a whole lot to dig deep into.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Like you said, very surface way became like that. That
- 13:41Speaker 3: was the thing.
- 13:42Speaker 1: It was socially. It is socially acceptable. Like I didn't
- 13:45Speaker 1: even drink.
- 13:46Speaker 3: I know it sounds like we're like not weird, but like,
- 13:48Speaker 3: you know, even in high school, like all these people
- 13:51Speaker 3: are drinking. I didn't drink.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Oh, wow. OK.
- 13:55Speaker 3: I didn't drink until after I turned twenty one. And
- 13:57Speaker 3: not only because like I was, I ended up being
- 14:00Speaker 3: a bartender, right? So what are you going to do?
- 14:03Speaker 1: And it was just socially acceptable.
- 14:04Speaker 3: When you're in the environment.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Yeah. Right. Like I said, though, too, like, you know,
- 14:09Speaker 3: being raised by a hippie mom, like, you know, while
- 14:11Speaker 3: I didn't drink, I did, you know, doing like, you know, marijuana, LSD,
- 14:15Speaker 3: ecstasy and all these other things.
- 14:18Speaker 1: But again, you know, you can't keep doing that and
- 14:20Speaker 1: flourish today, but you can't keep drinking.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:23Speaker 2: You can't keep drinking.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Right.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Yeah. I know I'm almost sober 11 years now. Are you,
- 14:30Speaker 2: do you still drink? I mean, I know you're helping in.
- 14:32Speaker 3: It's been about 10 years ago, roughly.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I think it's about 2017 Cinco de Mayo ish.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Right. And it was just like, you know, that was
- 14:43Speaker 3: the slow wind down. Like I didn't, I don't know
- 14:46Speaker 3: that I didn't white knuckle it.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I didn't do AA, but.
- 14:48Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, this isn't, this isn't doing it
- 14:51Speaker 3: for me anymore. Right. This is not conducive to who
- 14:54Speaker 3: I'd like to be in my own.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Amazing. Amazing. I think it's incredible when someone can do that.
- 15:01Speaker 2: I love to hear stories like that. And people can
- 15:05Speaker 2: stop drinking on their own, but so many of us
- 15:09Speaker 2: need help. We need the help.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Listen, I think that it's much more powerful. And again,
- 15:14Speaker 3: this is something that I share.
- 15:15Speaker 1: With the groups.
- 15:15Speaker 3: It's like it takes a ton of strength and courage
- 15:19Speaker 3: to ask for help.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Oh, God. I always say that. I mean, I always
- 15:25Speaker 2: say when I told my husband I need help, like
- 15:27Speaker 2: that was the most strength I ever showed.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a raw moment now. So and we can
- 15:34Speaker 3: we can tap into that here a little bit if
- 15:36Speaker 3: you want to get into like raw moments. But like
- 15:38Speaker 3: I always tell the group or the individuals that like
- 15:41Speaker 3: that is like that's that's like one of your strongest moments.
- 15:44Speaker 3: And if you're not familiar already with David Hawkins work,
- 15:47Speaker 3: the consciousness map, he's got this logarithmic map that kind
- 15:51Speaker 3: of walks you through consciousness and And the tipping point
- 15:55Speaker 3: on this scale, it goes from zero to a thousand.
- 15:57Speaker 3: The tipping point is around 200 and that's courage, right?
- 16:02Speaker 3: After you take enough courage to ask for the help,
- 16:05Speaker 3: for example, then that's when you begin to open yourself up.
- 16:10Speaker 1: You stop becoming a victim.
- 16:11Speaker 3: You start, you know, kind of, you start stepping into
- 16:14Speaker 3: and assuming control of your own life.
- 16:16Speaker 1: And I use the term control loosely, but you, you
- 16:19Speaker 1: realize that, Oh my, I asked for it.
- 16:21Speaker 3: You know, Marcy, when you asked for that help, those
- 16:23Speaker 3: most vulnerable raw that you ever were, you're like, Oh
- 16:25Speaker 3: my God, this doesn't go right. I'm going to explode.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:30Speaker 3: And since you didn't explode, you're like, wow. Okay. Yeah.
- 16:34Speaker 2: The way the world came off my shoulders, it really
- 16:37Speaker 2: was the most freeing feeling. Yeah. So for you, though,
- 16:42Speaker 2: let's get back to now the Adderall wasn't working, but
- 16:46Speaker 2: the pill wasn't the answer. So what then happened for you?
- 16:52Speaker 2: What changes did you start making? Because we go to
- 16:59Speaker 2: the pill, we know it doesn't work. We go to
- 17:01Speaker 2: the drink and that doesn't work. But how do we
- 17:04Speaker 2: find what does work? Yeah.
- 17:07Speaker 3: So, you know, I think most of the times by accident,
- 17:09Speaker 3: but we start we started off innocently enough. Right. For me, it's,
- 17:14Speaker 3: you know, the path to like breath work or some
- 17:16Speaker 3: of those other openness happened through, oddly enough. Oh, geez. Toastmasters.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Not sure if you've ever been to a Toastmaster or
- 17:25Speaker 3: been a Toastmaster.
- 17:26Speaker 2: I know of them. I have not been. Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 3: So, yeah, they're designed to help people speak. But in
- 17:32Speaker 3: one of these groups, there was this guy named Nitin
- 17:34Speaker 3: who gave like a presentation on meditation. And it was
- 17:40Speaker 3: like a 30 second meditation that he had you do
- 17:43Speaker 3: during this presentation.
- 17:44Speaker 1: And I felt something.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:46Speaker 1: I felt something.
- 17:47Speaker 3: So I was like, you know, let's continue this.
- 17:50Speaker 1: This is beneficial. I feel something.
- 17:52Speaker 3: And so. You know, I started meditating and I started
- 17:55Speaker 3: going down that path. And how do you realize that
- 17:57Speaker 3: it's working for me was when I stopped using it. Right.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Then I stopped meditating. And then I realized, like, I.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Was, again, anxious and had like, you know, these kind
- 18:07Speaker 3: of like pent up feelings. And I wasn't drinking. I
- 18:08Speaker 3: wasn't doing drugs and Adderall or anything. I said, well,
- 18:11Speaker 3: what has changed? What has changed over the past couple
- 18:15Speaker 3: of weeks or whatever? And I look back and I
- 18:17Speaker 3: was like, it was the meditation. And I was actually irritated.
- 18:23Speaker 3: Because I already knew. We all know it's supposed to work.
- 18:28Speaker 3: We're all supposed to be like, I don't want to
- 18:31Speaker 3: be like, but if I tell people that I meditate,
- 18:34Speaker 3: they're going to be like, am I going to be
- 18:35Speaker 3: like a tree hugger now? Do I have to start
- 18:37Speaker 3: wearing linen shirts? Do I have to invest in patchouli?
- 18:40Speaker 3: What happens next? So it didn't line up with who
- 18:48Speaker 3: I thought I was at the time. And so that
- 18:51Speaker 3: was like a little bit of a thing, but like,
- 18:52Speaker 3: you know, those, those were things. And I started exercise.
- 18:55Speaker 3: I went and I, I did a triathlon within like
- 18:59Speaker 3: a year. Like, you know, I did a, I did.
- 19:01Speaker 1: These little sprints. I did a long one. I did like,
- 19:03Speaker 1: I think it was like 50 miles.
- 19:04Speaker 3: And like, there was like these senses of accomplishments that
- 19:07Speaker 3: were happening with this, like this. And I, I did
- 19:10Speaker 3: all the things that they say you're supposed to do,
- 19:13Speaker 3: but I kind of did it on my own. Like, well,
- 19:14Speaker 3: go exercise, go journal. I'm doing journaling and doing all
- 19:17Speaker 3: these things. And all of a sudden, like, you know,
- 19:21Speaker 3: sudden seems sudden. And within a year's time, within six months,
- 19:24Speaker 3: I was able to look back and I was like, Ooh, what? Um,
- 19:27Speaker 3: within like eight months, uh, I had experienced a.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Somewhat of an awakening.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Right.
- 19:33Speaker 3: Um, and within that experience, uh, you had mentioned talking
- 19:39Speaker 3: to your husband about, uh, needing help. I, I, I
- 19:42Speaker 3: was literally experiencing like this full body high, this connectedness
- 19:47Speaker 3: to the universe. It wasn't euphoric, but it, wasn't less
- 19:51Speaker 3: than euphoric right like you had this kind of this
- 19:53Speaker 3: feeling of being connected to the universe right and i
- 19:55Speaker 3: was like this is weird well let's let's.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Just stop there for a minute because somebody listening might
- 20:01Speaker 2: be like connected to the universe but i told but
- 20:05Speaker 2: i totally get it because i had the same awakening
- 20:07Speaker 2: right so let's For me, what I say connected to
- 20:15Speaker 2: the universe, it's an energetic feeling. It's a pull. So
- 20:19Speaker 2: when you meditate or you pray or you sit in
- 20:24Speaker 2: quiet or there's nature, there's something that's happening and you
- 20:30Speaker 2: feel it fully in your body, like this energetic tingling almost.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Would you say that's the same for you?
- 20:38Speaker 3: Was like a two week period. This is going on, right?
- 20:42Speaker 3: Two weeks of this. And I remember I was working
- 20:45Speaker 3: with a men's group at this point in time. I
- 20:46Speaker 3: was leading a men's group and talking to them. My wife,
- 20:49Speaker 3: Meg was in the, and I was doing like, I
- 20:51Speaker 3: was making some chili or something for a chili cookoff,
- 20:54Speaker 3: but I had a Facebook live run in and I
- 20:56Speaker 3: was talking with the group and.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I was sharing all of this with them.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:00Speaker 1: And my wife was like, uh, Meg was, was, was saying.
- 21:02Speaker 3: A couple of things here and there and, and, and
- 21:04Speaker 3: joining in the conversation as well. And I had a
- 21:07Speaker 3: friend of mine, Phil, he goes, Brandon, I think it's
- 21:09Speaker 3: really cool that you're able to talk in front of
- 21:11Speaker 3: Meg that way.
- 21:12Speaker 1: And I was like, Phil, I don't think Meg knows
- 21:14Speaker 1: what I'm talking about.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Right.
- 21:17Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:18Speaker 1: And so once I.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Realized that, I told her kind of what I was
- 21:21Speaker 3: going through. And she goes, you know, I said, hey,
- 21:25Speaker 3: I'm experiencing this. Like you said, this energetic pull, this
- 21:28Speaker 3: full bodied like tingle, like connected to the universe, like
- 21:32Speaker 3: kind of that scene where in the Matrix where Neo dies.
- 21:36Speaker 3: you know, blast all this skin off and there was
- 21:37Speaker 3: nothing there but code. Right.
- 21:40Speaker 1: And she goes, well, uh, and I said, I said,
- 21:42Speaker 1: I don't know what's going to happen.
- 21:44Speaker 3: Like I'm feeling this way and I don't know if
- 21:47Speaker 3: it's going to get worse before it gets better or
- 21:50Speaker 3: if we, you know, tailspin out of this. And I
- 21:52Speaker 3: have no idea. And, uh, she goes, well, you're scaring
- 21:56Speaker 3: me a little bit. And she goes, are you on drugs?
- 21:59Speaker 3: I said, no, if I was on.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Drugs, I would have something I could point to. That
- 22:03Speaker 1: would be, that would actually be better.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:06Speaker 1: Right that would actually.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Be better because then i could tell you this is
- 22:08Speaker 3: what's hey sorry oops yeah it took this pill instead
- 22:11Speaker 3: of that pill so i'd have something to point to
- 22:14Speaker 3: but at the end of it speak and this was
- 22:16Speaker 3: like just you talk about this vulnerable raw spot she
- 22:19Speaker 3: could have been like all right well i'm gonna pack
- 22:21Speaker 3: up the kids and i'm out of here like right
- 22:23Speaker 3: crazy talk you need to go somewhere and figure your
- 22:26Speaker 3: shit out and and and fix it uh but instead
- 22:30Speaker 3: she goes you know uh Because like, I think I'm
- 22:33Speaker 3: pretty sure her line was like, I'm your ride or die. Like,
- 22:35Speaker 3: you know, this isn't amazing, but I'm here and work
- 22:37Speaker 3: through this. And I don't think that our relationship could
- 22:40Speaker 3: have been any strong. Like that's probably the inflection point
- 22:43Speaker 3: of the strengthening of our relationship. First and foremost.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 22:47Speaker 3: And, and her ability to show unconditional love made, gave
- 22:54Speaker 3: me also that ability to, right.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I feel that so much. Cause when I, in that moment, right. I,
- 23:02Speaker 2: I had had like my rock bottom and we, my
- 23:05Speaker 2: husband and I had been having problems. And when I
- 23:09Speaker 2: said that and he hugged me and he showed me
- 23:12Speaker 2: that unconditional love, like it just turned our relationship around
- 23:16Speaker 2: in a way that I, it was such a blessing.
- 23:21Speaker 2: And I mean, here we are almost 11 years later
- 23:24Speaker 2: and I couldn't ask for a better relationship and we both, yeah. Right. Like,
- 23:30Speaker 2: and you both grow through this, He may not be
- 23:33Speaker 2: meditating every day like me, but he's evolving with me.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Well, I think, I think, I think that's another huge
- 23:40Speaker 3: part in this whole process, Marcy. And it took me,
- 23:44Speaker 3: you know, maybe a few months or whatever to figure
- 23:47Speaker 3: out that her journey is not my journey.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Right.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Right. Or to tell somebody else, you know, what their
- 23:54Speaker 3: journey is. But what we do know are the signposts
- 23:59Speaker 3: and the mileposts.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 24:00Speaker 3: Right. But we can't tell them how quickly they're going
- 24:03Speaker 3: to get to each one or exactly what the journey
- 24:05Speaker 3: is going to look like. As they say, the map
- 24:08Speaker 3: is not the territory. Just because we have the map
- 24:10Speaker 3: doesn't mean that we know how they're going to navigate
- 24:12Speaker 3: and get there.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Oh, God.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Like, I mean, we all have our own journey and
- 24:17Speaker 2: sharing our lived experience and what has worked. And then
- 24:20Speaker 2: there's what resonates with others. Right. That's why we have
- 24:23Speaker 2: these conversations and share, which is amazing. And one of
- 24:28Speaker 2: the things that really came out of this for me,
- 24:31Speaker 2: my first book was called Chaos to Clarity because I just,
- 24:34Speaker 2: my life was complete chaos. And that's what I knew.
- 24:36Speaker 2: That's what I knew growing up. Like that was where
- 24:40Speaker 2: I had the comfort, even though I hated it so much.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 24:45Speaker 2: But today it's about that, having real peace, right? So
- 24:49Speaker 2: somebody had asked me about peace and I want you
- 24:52Speaker 2: to tell me what you think about peace. But for me,
- 24:55Speaker 2: it's like, there's a difference in peace. There's, it's not
- 24:59Speaker 2: just being quiet. There's a calmness, right? So there's, it's
- 25:04Speaker 2: a different feeling where you're not like, it may be quiet,
- 25:08Speaker 2: but you're, you feel like you're going to crawl out
- 25:11Speaker 2: of your skin. Now, now I, I embrace the peace
- 25:17Speaker 2: and I long for it daily. Yeah. How about you?
- 25:22Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, it's interesting.
- 25:24Speaker 3: That's a great question. I've never been a peace seeker. Right.
- 25:28Speaker 3: So I think that we get we get what we seek.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:31Speaker 3: But I mean, I think I could align it with
- 25:33Speaker 3: that stillness, though. And maybe that is peace. I just
- 25:36Speaker 3: I think there's this certainty that you get in being
- 25:40Speaker 3: who you are.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Right.
- 25:42Speaker 3: And being I think I like the word certainty in
- 25:45Speaker 3: that space. Like you're certain that you're like, for example, I.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Thought about this.
- 25:51Speaker 3: A little bit before we got on here. but if
- 25:54Speaker 3: we always think that we're in the wrong place at
- 25:57Speaker 3: the wrong time, then we are right. It's going to
- 25:59Speaker 3: be really hard. It's going to be really hard. It's
- 26:02Speaker 3: going to be really hard to make things better. If
- 26:04Speaker 3: we think everything's terrible. Yeah.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 26:06Speaker 3: So if we can realize that we are in exactly
- 26:10Speaker 3: the right time, the right space, the right place for
- 26:14Speaker 3: us as individuals to become, and what does that mean? Like,
- 26:18Speaker 3: you know, if we look at, if we look at
- 26:20Speaker 3: Maslow's hierarchy and he's or anybody else's, it's like, The
- 26:24Speaker 3: tip of the tip there of that triangle and what
- 26:27Speaker 3: everybody's trying to accomplish is self-actualization and self-realization. Right. And self-expression.
- 26:34Speaker 3: And so when we when we get to that point,
- 26:39Speaker 3: I think that that's that's what we're all seeking. And,
- 26:41Speaker 3: you know, so it could be peace. And but I
- 26:43Speaker 3: think that if we open ourselves up.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Sorry, I got I got sidetracked, Marcy.
- 26:47Speaker 3: I know that if we think that we're in the
- 26:49Speaker 3: wrong place, we'll always be stuck there, right?
- 26:51Speaker 1: So if we realize, like right now, for example, I realize, wow, how.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Amazing is it that I live in a time where
- 26:58Speaker 3: we can have a conversation like this, right? The technology exists.
- 27:03Speaker 3: I am personally, I love technology. I am great with technology.
- 27:08Speaker 3: If I'd been born in the 1880s, I'm pretty sure
- 27:10Speaker 3: I would have been shot Marcy. Right. I don't know
- 27:13Speaker 3: because I wasn't, I wasn't, um, you know, it wasn't
- 27:16Speaker 3: so bright that way. Like, you know, I was provoking
- 27:18Speaker 3: people and things and I would have been like, you know,
- 27:20Speaker 3: all right.
- 27:21Speaker 1: He's done moving on.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Right. I was like, I mean, and I know this
- 27:24Speaker 3: is like a goofy one to say, but I'm really
- 27:26Speaker 3: glad that I wasn't rich when I was younger because man,
- 27:29Speaker 3: I would have bought too many drugs and probably OD'd.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Like I make that joke. Like that's real.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 2: Yeah. That's real.
- 27:36Speaker 3: So my life has provided for me to continue to
- 27:41Speaker 3: be here, to continue to sustain. And if I'm still here, there's.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Got to be a reason, right? There's got to be
- 27:47Speaker 1: a reason.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Like you don't make it through all the things that
- 27:51Speaker 3: I've made it through fairly unscathed, mind you.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I don't even know how, right?
- 27:56Speaker 3: Like you think about some of the things, Marcy, maybe
- 27:58Speaker 3: you did when you were using, right?
- 28:02Speaker 1: Or drinking, partying.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Oh my God, I got stories.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Right. Like, how did we, how did we make it through?
- 28:09Speaker 2: God was watching me. It's like, we got to get
- 28:15Speaker 2: you through this time. Cause you got work to do
- 28:17Speaker 2: later in life. Yeah.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:19Speaker 3: So, I mean, we get to be here and the
- 28:21Speaker 3: reason and that purpose doesn't have to be either. Like
- 28:24Speaker 3: people can sometimes look at that as like, well, they
- 28:27Speaker 3: don't have to do this. It's not like these magnificent,
- 28:30Speaker 3: huge things. I mean, we think about the butterfly effect, right? Like,
- 28:34Speaker 3: And I always mention to the groups when I'm with
- 28:36Speaker 3: them or even, you know, so I work with I
- 28:38Speaker 3: work with the recovery groups, but I also work with
- 28:41Speaker 3: like high performing individuals and groups as well. And like
- 28:44Speaker 3: the flip side of that is like maybe you're just
- 28:46Speaker 3: in here to connect this person to that person today.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Right. It doesn't they don't even have to know exactly.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Or I'll tell the groups, whatever it is that you're
- 28:54Speaker 3: doing today, you're probably inspiring somebody to do the exact
- 28:57Speaker 3: to find the courage for themselves. Right.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 29:00Speaker 3: Because nobody ever believed that you Marcy would ever stop
- 29:02Speaker 3: drinking or ever stop partying.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 29:05Speaker 3: And then there's probably people out there, all kinds of
- 29:08Speaker 3: people that reach out to me.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Thank you for sharing your story. Thank you for being you.
- 29:12Speaker 3: I didn't say anything and do anything special, but it's
- 29:14Speaker 3: because of you that I did X, Y, or Z.
- 29:17Speaker 2: It was one thing you say that connects with someone else.
- 29:20Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:21Speaker 2: And that's one of the things like you were talking
- 29:23Speaker 2: about Maslow and the triangle and So when I became
- 29:29Speaker 2: familiar with energy, right, and we're talking about the different
- 29:34Speaker 2: levels of energy, and you're saying, if I'm always in
- 29:37Speaker 2: the wrong place, you know, it's not going to work
- 29:39Speaker 2: out kind of thing. And that's that power of energy, right?
- 29:42Speaker 2: So at the lowest, to understand, if you're listening, you
- 29:46Speaker 2: don't understand, like there's the lowest forms of energy, which
- 29:50Speaker 2: fear is one of the lowest forms of energy, right?
- 29:54Speaker 2: I mean, anger is above fear.
- 29:57Speaker 3: And you're seeking.
- 29:59Speaker 2: love and peace.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Right.
- 30:02Speaker 2: And, and that's what these elevations of the different levels
- 30:07Speaker 2: of energy create the different energy effects you have in
- 30:14Speaker 2: your life, right? Like what you are attracting in your life.
- 30:18Speaker 2: And so that's the power of this. So, and, and
- 30:25Speaker 2: I love how, you know, we, I appreciate that we
- 30:28Speaker 2: don't have to think of this as woo woo as
- 30:31Speaker 2: much as we used to.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Right.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Right. Right. Yeah. Because this stuff works and meditation works. And,
- 30:42Speaker 2: and that is, and for me, how meditation worked is
- 30:47Speaker 2: I always was looking outside of myself for validation and
- 30:51Speaker 2: never knowing who I was and, and that I lost myself.
- 30:57Speaker 2: So when I started calming down and taking the time,
- 31:00Speaker 2: and listen, I don't sit there and get quiet for
- 31:02Speaker 2: an hour with myself. I get that, how difficult that is.
- 31:06Speaker 2: But when I did start calming down and reconnecting with myself,
- 31:11Speaker 2: that's where I learned who I was. And that's where
- 31:13Speaker 2: I fell in love with myself. Like I didn't know
- 31:16Speaker 2: how to love myself. And society teaches us how selfish
- 31:20Speaker 2: that is. But we have to be our best versions
- 31:24Speaker 2: for ourselves and then for others, right? Yeah. And that's,
- 31:28Speaker 2: and that's a lot of the work that you're doing.
- 31:30Speaker 2: And now you, you found breath work. So how did
- 31:35Speaker 2: that happen? And like, was it an aha moment or
- 31:39Speaker 2: was it like over time that you realized how powerful
- 31:44Speaker 2: it was or is? Yeah.
- 31:46Speaker 3: So the, the immediate breath work. So I had somebody,
- 31:51Speaker 3: I had a friend of mine, it was actually this
- 31:53Speaker 3: guy named Dave, and we had done, again, many live
- 31:57Speaker 3: sessions on Facebook together, along with this other gentleman named Phil,
- 32:02Speaker 3: where we would have these real, we would just have
- 32:05Speaker 3: real honest men's conversations, but publicly, talking about some of
- 32:09Speaker 3: the struggles that we actually face and how we're dealing
- 32:12Speaker 3: with them. As we all stayed connected together, Dave had
- 32:15Speaker 3: started teaching breathwork. So Dave's out there teaching breathwork, and
- 32:19Speaker 3: I'm like, Dave, that looks great. Continue on. Sally Forth,
- 32:22Speaker 3: my good friend. Because here I am. I'm listening to podcasts.
- 32:25Speaker 1: I'm journaling.
- 32:26Speaker 3: I'm meditating. I'm exercising. I'm like, you know, all the
- 32:30Speaker 3: personal development. I got books to catch up on that
- 32:34Speaker 3: I'm personally developing. I couldn't possibly add on. I don't
- 32:40Speaker 3: know about you, Marcia. You ever thought about all the
- 32:42Speaker 3: things you're supposed to do that are supposed to make
- 32:44Speaker 3: you happy, supposed to bring you peace and do all
- 32:46Speaker 3: the things.
- 32:46Speaker 2: It would be overwhelming.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:48Speaker 2: I don't have time.
- 32:50Speaker 1: I don't have all the time.
- 32:51Speaker 3: So I was like, I was like, uh, my friend
- 32:53Speaker 3: Tom says, Hey Brandon, are you going to go check
- 32:55Speaker 3: out this thing Dave's doing on Saturdays? Like absolutely not.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Couldn't possibly get any more personal development wedged.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Into his life.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:03Speaker 3: And he goes, Oh, I'm only going cause he's your friend.
- 33:05Speaker 3: And I was like, you son of a BIT. And
- 33:07Speaker 3: so I go and I do the breath work. I
- 33:10Speaker 3: lay down, I do the, you know, it's an hour
- 33:11Speaker 3: long session, first session, uh, mind you hour long session.
- 33:16Speaker 3: But as I do the session, um, It's just literally
- 33:19Speaker 3: like mind blowing session.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Um, like, uh, I'm like craving it right now. You
- 33:24Speaker 2: just talking about it. I would love it. Right.
- 33:27Speaker 3: So it was like, it was like a full body
- 33:29Speaker 3: high mind, mental explosion.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 33:33Speaker 3: I get done.
- 33:33Speaker 1: And I'm like, Dave, wow. He's like, yeah, I know.
- 33:36Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:36Speaker 3: And Dave, uh, at that point in time, it was
- 33:38Speaker 3: 20 plus years sober too.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Like, and so he's like, I was like, I was like,
- 33:42Speaker 3: I didn't, from what it's worth, Marcy, I'm, I'm, this
- 33:45Speaker 3: isn't what anybody should be seeking. but this is still
- 33:48Speaker 3: what happened. And I'll share this is that I didn't
- 33:52Speaker 3: think that I would ever feel like I was on
- 33:55Speaker 3: shrooms or acid or ecstasy or anything like that ever again,
- 33:59Speaker 3: because I wasn't doing them again or, you know, wasn't
- 34:02Speaker 3: in the plans. And here I had had an experience
- 34:06Speaker 3: from within that was similar to that. But, you know,
- 34:12Speaker 3: it was all, it was all done with the body
- 34:14Speaker 3: and self-induced and, and, The great news, and I always
- 34:17Speaker 3: kind of make this joke, is that the thing I
- 34:20Speaker 3: love about breathwork is that you can have that experience,
- 34:23Speaker 3: but then you can walk up and go drive a car.
- 34:26Speaker 2: Right, right.
- 34:28Speaker 3: You don't have to dedicate an entire day to it
- 34:30Speaker 3: or all this other stuff. And like, and the beauty
- 34:32Speaker 3: of it is too, is like, it's like you mentioned,
- 34:34Speaker 3: we've been going outside so often to try and find these,
- 34:37Speaker 3: these things outside of ourselves. Here was something that presented
- 34:40Speaker 3: itself that I'd done with the body. It was all
- 34:43Speaker 3: the other benefits that are included. And I was having
- 34:45Speaker 3: these moments of clarity because, you know, with our daily
- 34:50Speaker 3: life and struggles, like how do I solve this thing?
- 34:52Speaker 3: And we focus so intently on it. We can't figure
- 34:55Speaker 3: it out. But here, like, these answers were just coming
- 34:57Speaker 3: through breathwork. I was like, oh, what is this magnificent thing?
- 35:03Speaker 3: And the funny part is, I said, Dave, this is amazing.
- 35:05Speaker 3: He goes, I know, right?
- 35:06Speaker 1: I was like, Dave, you got to teach me how
- 35:08Speaker 1: to do this. He goes, no.
- 35:09Speaker 3: I was like, what?
- 35:11Speaker 1: Right? He didn't feel like.
- 35:13Speaker 3: He was in a place at that point in time
- 35:14Speaker 3: to be a teacher of it. It was still new
- 35:16Speaker 3: to him.
- 35:17Speaker 1: So I said, I appreciate that.
- 35:18Speaker 3: And so. you know, I went and I found my
- 35:20Speaker 3: own path and, um, you know, found, uh, different types
- 35:23Speaker 3: and styles of breath work to, to go after lots
- 35:25Speaker 3: of reading, lots of, uh, you know, certified in, in, uh, Soma,
- 35:29Speaker 3: which is along with music and rhythmic counting and great
- 35:32Speaker 3: visualizations and all the other things. There's a ton of
- 35:35Speaker 3: different ways to go about it. But, um, yeah, I
- 35:37Speaker 3: realized that like, this was something that, like you said,
- 35:40Speaker 3: not necessarily craving, but I want it definitely had to
- 35:42Speaker 3: be a part of my life.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:44Speaker 3: And I had to share it with others.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Absolutely. Like, So I also do workshops in recovery centers
- 35:54Speaker 2: and I do a lot of grounding exercises, but the
- 35:59Speaker 2: thing is, is that we all can use them. We don't,
- 36:03Speaker 2: you don't have to have any substance issues. This helps
- 36:07Speaker 2: us when we are in that fight or flight. Right. Right. So,
- 36:15Speaker 2: Why don't you share with us exactly what is happening
- 36:19Speaker 2: with breathwork and something that somebody could start today?
- 36:26Speaker 3: With breathwork, I think part of the biggest part, like
- 36:29Speaker 3: you're talking about there, is like, I think initially we
- 36:33Speaker 3: want some, especially in recovery, right? Or like in any
- 36:36Speaker 3: given situation. Yeah.
- 36:38Speaker 2: Right.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Let's say that I'm in a sales meeting and I
- 36:40Speaker 3: start to feel my heart beating and I start to
- 36:42Speaker 3: hear myself talking quicker. And, you know, maybe a bead
- 36:45Speaker 3: of sweat starts like showing up like that is a
- 36:48Speaker 3: signal like on a dashboard of your car says, hey,
- 36:51Speaker 3: you know, Marcy, you're you're you're entering into fight or flight.
- 36:55Speaker 3: This is a signal that's showing up. And so, you know,
- 36:57Speaker 3: a is just realizing that the signal is just showing
- 36:59Speaker 3: up and be realizing that like your subconscious and your
- 37:04Speaker 3: body is like an extension of your subconscious.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Right.
- 37:09Speaker 1: And so there you are.
- 37:10Speaker 3: You're lighting up the dashboard light pops up and says
- 37:13Speaker 3: you're panicking and you're like, I am panicking.
- 37:15Speaker 1: And historically, we're like our body knows what's up.
- 37:18Speaker 3: Oh, my God, we're going to we just go ahead
- 37:19Speaker 3: and spiral.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Right.
- 37:21Speaker 3: Because we don't.
- 37:23Speaker 1: What's the line? I didn't get a manual with this thing.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Like, you know, we didn't get a manual with this
- 37:28Speaker 3: thing called life and our bodies. So it's up to
- 37:32Speaker 3: us to learn. All right. So now if we're feeling
- 37:34Speaker 3: this panic and overwhelm, generally we're going to feel it
- 37:36Speaker 3: in our chest and our shoulders. Right. And so what
- 37:40Speaker 3: we want to do is we want to take we
- 37:43Speaker 3: want to want to take a breath in through our
- 37:45Speaker 3: nose and down to our belly, let the diaphragm expand and.
- 37:49Speaker 3: you know, let it just follow up and come up
- 37:51Speaker 3: to the top and a nice longer exhale than an inhale.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Here's kind of what's happening, right? When we go into
- 37:55Speaker 3: fight or flight, our body uses our chest as an
- 37:59Speaker 3: auxiliary breathing apparatus, right? It's akin, I reference cars a lot,
- 38:05Speaker 3: but it's akin to if you've ever seen a car
- 38:07Speaker 3: that has that scoop on the hood of the car,
- 38:09Speaker 3: it's taking in more air so that it has more
- 38:12Speaker 3: energy because it's going to need to explode, needs to
- 38:15Speaker 3: fight or freeze.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Flea.
- 38:18Speaker 3: Right. And so that's what's happening. And so we do that.
- 38:23Speaker 3: Our bodies just, our bodies just continue to like cycling
- 38:25Speaker 3: the loop. We realize it and we realize that the
- 38:27Speaker 3: dashboard light has come on. This is our opportunity to say, okay,
- 38:31Speaker 3: into the nose, down to the belly. When we breathe
- 38:32Speaker 3: in our diaphragm, that's us signaling to the body that
- 38:36Speaker 3: we're in rest and digest, right. That we are in
- 38:39Speaker 3: a comfortable spot. And then when we breathe in through
- 38:42Speaker 3: our nose, specifically when we breathe in through our nose,
- 38:45Speaker 3: Our body is creating nitric oxide, right? And it only
- 38:50Speaker 3: happens by like, I don't know the medical terms, but
- 38:53Speaker 3: basically just comes in and slams to the back of
- 38:55Speaker 3: our nose and creates nitric oxide. And that nitric oxide
- 38:59Speaker 3: has a one and a half second half-life, right? So
- 39:02Speaker 3: within one and a half seconds, it has to go
- 39:04Speaker 3: do its job. And its job is to, it's a
- 39:08Speaker 3: vassal dilator. It opens up your blood vessels in your body.
- 39:11Speaker 3: So if it opens up the blood vessels, opens up
- 39:14Speaker 3: the blood vessels in your body, it's like uncaking a hose, right?
- 39:16Speaker 3: You just uncake the hose, flows easier. And if your
- 39:20Speaker 3: blood is flowing easier, then there's less stress on your heart.
- 39:24Speaker 3: And if there's less stress on your heart, you know,
- 39:27Speaker 3: your your vagus nerve is connected to all your organs.
- 39:32Speaker 3: So it's kind of like the super highway of information.
- 39:34Speaker 3: So information goes from your heart up to the vagus
- 39:36Speaker 3: nerve and there's an 80, 20 ratio, right? The vagus
- 39:40Speaker 3: nerve is sending about 80% of the information and the
- 39:43Speaker 3: brain's only like doing 20, right? So if it.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Sends the information up to the brain and it says, Hey,
- 39:50Speaker 1: heart is cool. We good, right?
- 39:53Speaker 3: Like we, we, we have solved the situation. We were
- 39:55Speaker 3: breathing with our diaphragm. We're breathing in through our nose.
- 39:59Speaker 3: We have, we have calmed the entire thing down. Your
- 40:02Speaker 3: nervous system says, cool. Like we, we, we, we were
- 40:05Speaker 3: not in fight or flight anymore.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:07Speaker 3: And so it's just like literally in that moment, but
- 40:09Speaker 3: there's more, but wait now, how much would you pay?
- 40:12Speaker 3: But there's more, right? There's, there's the idea of, um,
- 40:16Speaker 3: This is just simply a pattern interrupt, right? These are
- 40:19Speaker 3: the moments, these are the moments most people are like, well,
- 40:21Speaker 3: I do that already. I do that naturally, right? They're like,
- 40:23Speaker 3: all right, dude, I always take a breath. Now, I
- 40:25Speaker 3: don't call that breath work though. I call that like
- 40:27Speaker 3: the yo shit button. I don't know if you got
- 40:29Speaker 3: to bleep me out or if I'm allowed to do that,
- 40:31Speaker 3: but that's the yo shit button, right? Like, it's like,
- 40:33Speaker 3: oh God, panic mode right now. I feel it all
- 40:35Speaker 3: right now. Dash lights come on now. You know, your
- 40:37Speaker 3: dash lights only come on if you didn't add gas
- 40:39Speaker 3: when you're supposed to, if you didn't add oil when
- 40:41Speaker 3: you're supposed to, if you have regular maintenance or like
- 40:43Speaker 3: kind of put the stuff on, then the dash light
- 40:45Speaker 3: never comes on.
- 40:46Speaker 2: Yeah. Right.
- 40:46Speaker 3: So. So this is like a pattern interrupts happening, too.
- 40:50Speaker 3: So this is literally you rewiring yourself in the situation
- 40:54Speaker 3: instead of allowing yourself to continue down panic and fight
- 40:56Speaker 3: or flight.
- 40:57Speaker 1: You said, oh, let's reroute. Let's reroute. This is not a.
- 41:01Speaker 3: Lion, tiger or a bear. We can just breathe through this.
- 41:05Speaker 3: There's other things that you can do if you're feeling
- 41:08Speaker 3: that way that are pattern interrupts as well. I like
- 41:11Speaker 3: to share, are you familiar with the emotional field? Was
- 41:14Speaker 3: it the emotional field tapping? Like where you tap like you're.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Like butterfly tapping?
- 41:19Speaker 3: Is that what you call it? Yeah. But like there's like,
- 41:22Speaker 3: you know, you go through, you're feeling these things and
- 41:24Speaker 3: you start doing these mantras and you tap yourself. Now,
- 41:27Speaker 3: those are great and effective. And why I share that
- 41:29Speaker 3: is because my way is not the only way. Breathwork works,
- 41:35Speaker 3: but there are other ways that you can resolve this. Now,
- 41:38Speaker 3: That being said, there's no way I'm going to be
- 41:40Speaker 3: in front of a meeting sharing a presentation, starting to
- 41:44Speaker 3: feel panic.
- 41:45Speaker 1: And overwhelm and start doing this.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Right.
- 41:47Speaker 3: I'll be like, hey, guys, we're cool. Like, I'm just
- 41:49Speaker 3: a little overwhelmed by what you just said there. Not
- 41:52Speaker 3: sure if you're going to take this deal, but I'm
- 41:55Speaker 3: going to write.
- 41:56Speaker 1: I'm feeling triggered. Hold on.
- 41:58Speaker 3: Right, right, right. There's no way like you want to
- 42:00Speaker 3: see your pilot up there flying the plane just doing
- 42:03Speaker 3: this for a minute being like, what the hell is
- 42:04Speaker 3: he doing? Like, what's happening?
- 42:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 42:07Speaker 3: So while that exists and it is effective, like this
- 42:10Speaker 3: is an effective way to regain self-control and composure without
- 42:14Speaker 3: signaling to everybody else in the room that you're regaining
- 42:17Speaker 3: your composure. And that's great.
- 42:19Speaker 1: That is using breathing in a situation.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Like I said, the ocean. But what you want to
- 42:25Speaker 3: do is something like called coherent breathing.
- 42:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 42:28Speaker 3: So let's say you start your day with like a
- 42:30Speaker 3: meditation practice. Let's say you're already journaling. Let's say you're
- 42:32Speaker 3: doing like all these other things. What I'd recommend is
- 42:34Speaker 3: that you. do a coherent breath work, right? There's a
- 42:38Speaker 3: nice book on it. I don't have it in front
- 42:40Speaker 3: of me. So remember the author's name, but it's scientifically backed.
- 42:43Speaker 3: Like you said, it's great because now it's not just
- 42:45Speaker 3: all woo woo. There's, you know, actual doctors and science
- 42:48Speaker 3: behind it all that keeps coming out. So this practice is,
- 42:52Speaker 3: it's called coherent breathing. It's five in five out for
- 42:56Speaker 3: five minutes into the nose, diaphragmatic breathing for five minutes.
- 43:01Speaker 3: At some point in there, you focus on some type
- 43:03Speaker 3: of gratitude and, or something you feel grateful for, particularly again,
- 43:06Speaker 3: like that helps to expand your body and puts you
- 43:09Speaker 3: at ease. But you do that for about 300 seconds.
- 43:13Speaker 3: HeartMath Institute recommends 300 seconds. And then your breathing actually
- 43:19Speaker 3: dictates your heart rate, right? So you bring that all
- 43:22Speaker 3: into a rhythm. You actually bring them into sync and
- 43:25Speaker 3: into a coherent pattern, right? And when you do that,
- 43:29Speaker 3: You will reduce your levels of cortisol. You will reduce inflammation.
- 43:35Speaker 3: And that will set you on a pace for the day.
- 43:38Speaker 3: The reduction in cortisol is double digits, right?
- 43:42Speaker 1: 10% plus. So if you could, Marcy, reduce the amount of.
- 43:48Speaker 3: Fear that you have in the day, the amount of
- 43:50Speaker 3: anxiety that you have in the day, the amount of
- 43:51Speaker 3: anxiety and overwhelm or whatever is caused by these things
- 43:56Speaker 3: by 10% or more, what would that look like for you? Right.
- 43:59Speaker 1: What would that look like to you?
- 44:01Speaker 3: And that's the question I usually pause and ask and say,
- 44:04Speaker 3: you know, what would you try to do? What would
- 44:07Speaker 3: you accomplish if you knew that you were going to
- 44:10Speaker 3: get those double digit returns every day? And if you're
- 44:12Speaker 3: in the stock market, you would do it every day.
- 44:14Speaker 3: There'd be no question about it. Now, just invest that
- 44:16Speaker 3: five minutes in yourself because then you're going to reduce
- 44:19Speaker 3: that need that you need to hit that OSHIP button
- 44:21Speaker 3: that we talked about.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Right.
- 44:22Speaker 3: Because now you've got this practice that you set yourself
- 44:25Speaker 3: off at the beginning of the day. that helps you, uh,
- 44:28Speaker 3: to override that. So hopefully that's helpful for anybody that's
- 44:30Speaker 3: out there. You don't have to do anything ultra super special,
- 44:34Speaker 3: but the recommendation is, you know, like I, like I
- 44:37Speaker 3: found for myself was that you're, you're the science experiment here, right?
- 44:42Speaker 1: Try it for yourself.
- 44:44Speaker 3: See how it goes. Don't half-ass it. Like literally try it.
- 44:49Speaker 3: Give it zero expectations too. Cause I think that that's another,
- 44:51Speaker 3: another big one. Um, be, Because if you've got a
- 44:55Speaker 3: certain set of expectations on how it's supposed to work,
- 44:59Speaker 3: those might not show up. So the line is be
- 45:04Speaker 3: open to anything, right, happening, and then just let it happen, right?
- 45:09Speaker 3: Try it for five days and see if something isn't different.
- 45:12Speaker 3: See if there's less anxiety, right?
- 45:14Speaker 2: See if you have a little relief, right? Yeah.
- 45:17Speaker 3: Right.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Yeah. And this is not only mental. I mean, this
- 45:21Speaker 2: is physical, too. This is like you get sick from
- 45:23Speaker 2: these things. Yeah. This keeps you much healthier in the
- 45:29Speaker 2: long run.
- 45:31Speaker 3: So if you're if your body's in fight or flight,
- 45:34Speaker 3: you're there's and I don't know exactly what the name
- 45:36Speaker 3: of the thing is called. But like, you know, you
- 45:39Speaker 3: can only produce like cortisol or this other thing is
- 45:42Speaker 3: called DHA, you know, letters for a hormone that helps
- 45:47Speaker 3: you to rest and repair. right? So if you're stuck
- 45:51Speaker 3: in anxiety, and most of us are, even if we
- 45:54Speaker 3: don't believe it, because we feel like this is our normal, right?
- 45:57Speaker 3: Like we all have like these normal things running in
- 46:00Speaker 3: our background, like a million tabs open. So when we
- 46:05Speaker 3: reduce this and we put ourselves into this coherent pattern,
- 46:09Speaker 3: our body's actually able to create the rest and repair stuff,
- 46:13Speaker 3: which keeps us looking younger, which keeps us looking more vibrant, which,
- 46:17Speaker 3: you know, uh, makes us feel more lively.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Um, you know, I think that.
- 46:23Speaker 3: You can correct me if I'm wrong, but like there's
- 46:24Speaker 3: people out there that we can look at in life
- 46:27Speaker 3: and just been like, wow, they've had a rough life.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah. Yeah. Right. And people ask me like, what's,
- 46:34Speaker 2: what's my trick. Cause I I'm 57 and you know,
- 46:39Speaker 2: how do you stay, I guess, vibrant and younger and healthy. Right.
- 46:45Speaker 2: And it's all this work. Yeah. I mean, it's like,
- 46:49Speaker 2: it's amazing.
- 46:49Speaker 3: Would you call it work? Cause I think maybe that's
- 46:51Speaker 3: the problem. Cause I remember that too. Like, do we
- 46:53Speaker 3: call it work or what else can we call it?
- 46:55Speaker 3: That it's like more.
- 46:57Speaker 2: I agree that it's not the best word because people
- 47:02Speaker 2: associate negativity with work.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:06Speaker 2: I mean, I, I action is what I say. I like,
- 47:10Speaker 2: you gotta, you gotta put in the action. To create
- 47:15Speaker 2: the change. Do we like action?
- 47:18Speaker 3: I love action. Look, that's, you know, that's, I think,
- 47:22Speaker 3: my problem. But let's go do something. I mean, I
- 47:26Speaker 3: think that's the other thing, too, that I usually share
- 47:28Speaker 3: about the breath work that I do, too. Like my
- 47:29Speaker 3: breath work isn't necessarily for you to feel like you
- 47:33Speaker 3: want to take a nap when you're done. I'm sure
- 47:35Speaker 3: your listeners, if they're familiar with some of the work
- 47:37Speaker 3: that you're doing, are familiar with flow state, right? The
- 47:39Speaker 3: idea is to get into this flow state where we feel,
- 47:42Speaker 3: but without feeling energized, we won't take that action.
- 47:46Speaker 2: Right.
- 47:47Speaker 3: And when we do this breath work, you know, we,
- 47:49Speaker 3: we also put ourselves into a place of psychological safety, right? We've, we've,
- 47:53Speaker 3: we've lowered, we've lowered this, this heightened arousal state. Now
- 47:57Speaker 3: we're like, we're comfortable. And that's where, that's where, and
- 48:00Speaker 3: then you feel energized enough to be able to take
- 48:01Speaker 3: and make those changes. And that's where, honestly, like that's where,
- 48:05Speaker 3: that's where it happens when you feel psychologically safe.
- 48:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Well, and that's what we want to feel safe, right?
- 48:11Speaker 2: We truly, at the end of the day, we all
- 48:14Speaker 2: want to feel safe. So right now we're just going
- 48:17Speaker 2: to take a break and I want to share about
- 48:18Speaker 2: my new book, Wake Up, You're Not Broken, a companion
- 48:22Speaker 2: for your first 30 days of sobriety. Are you in
- 48:25Speaker 2: the first 30 days of sobriety or wondering if now
- 48:28Speaker 2: is your time to start? Hi, I'm Marci Hopkins and
- 48:32Speaker 2: I wrote Wake Up, You're Not Broken just for you.
- 48:35Speaker 2: It's a real raw guide to those first 30 days.
- 48:38Speaker 2: what no one tells you, what you will feel, and
- 48:41Speaker 2: how to keep going. This isn't about perfection. It's about progress.
- 48:46Speaker 2: Order your copy now on Amazon. Remember, you're not alone.
- 48:51Speaker 2: You're not broken. You're waking up. Welcome back, Brandon. We
- 48:58Speaker 2: have been talking about such incredible work and your breath
- 49:03Speaker 2: work and what you're doing. Tell us exactly about your
- 49:08Speaker 2: business and what how this started for you and what
- 49:13Speaker 2: you're doing today.
- 49:15Speaker 3: Yeah, so right now, um, you know, I run everything
- 49:19Speaker 3: under brandonghandley.com or just as a personal, uh, brand, uh,
- 49:24Speaker 3: because I find myself just kind of twisting the nuance
- 49:28Speaker 3: from time to time.
- 49:29Speaker 2: Right.
- 49:29Speaker 3: So right now I'm running spirit of the deal. And
- 49:32Speaker 3: that's really the essence of who you are in the deal.
- 49:36Speaker 3: Meaning like, you know, the core of who you are
- 49:38Speaker 3: and what you're trying to serve your customers and clients with,
- 49:41Speaker 3: that's going to really shine through, right? And when you
- 49:43Speaker 3: can align yourself with those actions and that mindset of
- 49:48Speaker 3: being of service and, you know, trying to benefit not
- 49:52Speaker 3: just yourself, but the people across from you so that
- 49:54Speaker 3: the whole world benefits, that's going to shine through. So
- 49:57Speaker 3: I do that through breathwork, through coaching. Through conversations similar
- 50:02Speaker 3: to yours, Marcy, you and I met on my podcast,
- 50:04Speaker 3: Created the Deal. And we really need people to be
- 50:07Speaker 3: able to just identify some of the circumstances, see other
- 50:11Speaker 3: people that have done it to realize that maybe the
- 50:14Speaker 3: grind isn't the way that it has to be done anymore.
- 50:17Speaker 3: Maybe sacrificing who you are to your job and the
- 50:21Speaker 3: work so that when you're maybe at 65, you get
- 50:25Speaker 3: to enjoy your life. That's not the way, right? How
- 50:28Speaker 3: can we enjoy our lives, enjoy what we do, get
- 50:31Speaker 3: paid well for doing it without sacrificing the truth of
- 50:34Speaker 3: who we are?
- 50:36Speaker 2: Yeah, 100%. How is it that you're working with people?
- 50:40Speaker 2: When they start with you, what are they doing? Take
- 50:43Speaker 2: me through what they will benefit and how that work would,
- 50:48Speaker 2: what would that work look like?
- 50:50Speaker 3: I think a lot of the people that I work with,
- 50:52Speaker 3: they initially have this kind of idea of, Again, the
- 50:56Speaker 3: old fashioned way of grinding it out, more time put in,
- 51:00Speaker 3: grinding themselves up and sacrificing themselves for, you know, the
- 51:05Speaker 3: money or the job or even like their family, right?
- 51:07Speaker 3: Without giving themselves anything is kind of a paradigm that
- 51:11Speaker 3: I try to flip for them. Try to have them,
- 51:14Speaker 3: like you talked about, go inside, have them leverage some
- 51:17Speaker 3: of the tools that are built in like breathwork, like visualization, right?
- 51:21Speaker 1: And I point to the science, right? I think like
- 51:23Speaker 1: we talked about earlier, all the.
- 51:24Speaker 3: Science is there now, right? Help them to understand their
- 51:30Speaker 3: own dashboard, right? It's not just the shoulders and the chest.
- 51:32Speaker 3: There's a lot of language that we haven't been taught. Like, again,
- 51:37Speaker 3: understanding like, you know, just because where you feel and
- 51:40Speaker 3: what you're feeling at that point in time and how
- 51:42Speaker 3: to move that if you'd like.
- 51:44Speaker 1: You know, I call it state.
- 51:45Speaker 3: Shifting, you know, because these are all different.
- 51:47Speaker 1: States of being.
- 51:48Speaker 3: And if we realize that, on this map, I'm in
- 51:51Speaker 3: this state. I just traversed to this other state where
- 51:54Speaker 3: I'd like to exist.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Right.
- 51:56Speaker 3: Uh, and how that benefits them is like being able to, uh, authentically,
- 52:00Speaker 3: you know, register and sell a deal and deal with it.
- 52:05Speaker 3: And I'd say like sales, you know, who I hope
- 52:07Speaker 3: help out the most, but this is everywhere that you're at, right?
- 52:10Speaker 3: This is everywhere that you're at being able to, uh,
- 52:13Speaker 3: walk forward authentically in alignment, um, it's going to show
- 52:18Speaker 3: up much stronger and you're going to finally be able to,
- 52:20Speaker 3: you know, the Trojan horse is like, this is your
- 52:23Speaker 3: path to like self-realization, right? This is your path to actualization.
- 52:28Speaker 3: And when you, when you take some of these steps
- 52:30Speaker 3: that you didn't believe were possible before you, you get
- 52:34Speaker 3: that experience. Yeah.
- 52:37Speaker 2: It's truly incredible. And I can't thank you enough for
- 52:41Speaker 2: coming on the show, Brandon, and sharing so openly and
- 52:44Speaker 2: for the work that you do. Thank you all so
- 52:47Speaker 2: much for joining Wake Up with Marci today, whether you
- 52:51Speaker 2: are watching or listening. I am so grateful for you
- 52:56Speaker 2: and your participation. That means so much. And with you participating,
- 53:02Speaker 2: how can you get involved? If you can like, comment,
- 53:06Speaker 2: share with me what's going on with you right now.
- 53:09Speaker 2: What is a topic you would love for me to discuss?
- 53:12Speaker 2: Please share that with me and Also, what did you gain?
- 53:16Speaker 2: What was a nugget you gained in today's show? And
- 53:20Speaker 2: share this with someone who needs to hear it because
- 53:24Speaker 2: it'd be so great if we could create that ripple
- 53:26Speaker 2: effect together and help others. So thank you again. And
- 53:31Speaker 2: I will see you next week with an all new
- 53:34Speaker 2: episode of Wake Up With Marci. And remember, you're not broken.
- 53:39Speaker 2: You are beginning.
