- 1:07Speaker 3: Hello and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 1:10Speaker 3: that's here to show you that investing isn't just for
- 1:12Speaker 3: the rich, it is for you too. I'm your host,
- 1:16Speaker 3: Victoria Devine, and recently one of our very own team
- 1:18Speaker 3: members gave us a little peek into her investing diary. Yes,
- 1:23Speaker 3: she makes our Tiktoks builds our courses and is responsible
- 1:25Speaker 3: for the chaotic memes that you see on our feed.
- 1:28Speaker 3: But plot twist, she's actually a very seriously impressive investor.
- 1:33Speaker 3: You loved that episode and our dms blew up for more,
- 1:37Speaker 3: so I flew her over back from Perth, and because
- 1:40Speaker 3: I'm all about giving our community exactly what they want,
- 1:43Speaker 3: Brook is back today, and this time we're getting Pervy
- 1:46Speaker 3: on the shares and ETFs on her watch list.
- 1:49Speaker 2: So Brook, welcome back to the show. Hello divers.
- 1:53Speaker 3: I'm very excited about this. We're also going out for
- 1:57Speaker 3: dinner after.
- 1:57Speaker 2: This, so you no, I've actually re looked at the menu,
- 2:00Speaker 2: have you like.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Picked everything that you want? It was how I got
- 2:04Speaker 3: her to come from Perth to Milt.
- 2:06Speaker 4: I mean the correct time zone. I got up at
- 2:08Speaker 4: five am. We're here, but it's worth it.
- 2:10Speaker 2: I love it all.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Right, Before we dive into this, I feel like we
- 2:13Speaker 3: need to be like responsible human beings, and just like
- 2:16Speaker 3: the last episode you and I did, we probably need
- 2:19Speaker 3: to do a little bit of a disclaimer. So past
- 2:22Speaker 3: performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance, and
- 2:25Speaker 3: the advice that is being given isn't actually advice. We're
- 2:29Speaker 3: just two girls having a yap. Like guys, I'm a
- 2:32Speaker 3: retired financial advisor, not a current financial advisor, so everything
- 2:36Speaker 3: that I say and do has to be taken with
- 2:38Speaker 3: a grain of salt. We are sharing information that is
- 2:42Speaker 3: available at the time of recording, like something could happen
- 2:45Speaker 3: tomorrow and we drop this episode and you go, well,
- 2:48Speaker 3: that share price isn't accurate.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Yes, so please don't take what.
- 2:52Speaker 3: We're saying as gospel, because as we know, in the
- 2:55Speaker 3: world of investing, things can change literally overnight, and I
- 2:59Speaker 3: think that it is a very important thing that we
- 3:01Speaker 3: kind of stay on top of that. So these are
- 3:03Speaker 3: just like our personal thoughts and feelings. And Brook might
- 3:06Speaker 3: say her favorite color is blue, but you go, well,
- 3:08Speaker 3: my favorite colors red, and that doesn't really matter. We
- 3:10Speaker 3: just having a chat, right, Lucky you're wearing red today.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Though I know, and I have blue nails at all,
- 3:14Speaker 2: so everything is matchy matchy.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Before we jump in and get started, I need to
- 3:19Speaker 3: know how do you personally like to research? Because I
- 3:21Speaker 3: feel like this is the number one question, or not
- 3:23Speaker 3: the number one, but one of the number one questions
- 3:25Speaker 3: we get. People are like me, you say, do your
- 3:27Speaker 3: research the heck does that mean? How do you keep
- 3:30Speaker 3: up with the share market?
- 3:31Speaker 4: I think for me, I pretty much only invest in
- 3:33Speaker 4: things that I'm interested in. So the things that I
- 3:36Speaker 4: care about it a pretty much oil, your crude oil
- 3:38Speaker 4: is number one.
- 3:39Speaker 2: What do you mean I love fuel?
- 3:42Speaker 4: No, Like, if things don't interest me, I'm not going
- 3:44Speaker 4: to research them, Like if it's boring, why would anyone
- 3:46Speaker 4: research it? So it's more so just looking at industries
- 3:49Speaker 4: I'm really interested in. So say it's the tech sector. Well,
- 3:51Speaker 4: I'm following the news and the tech sector, and if
- 3:53Speaker 4: I hear a company mention a couple of times, I
- 3:55Speaker 4: might go then search it and see how it shares
- 3:58Speaker 4: and performed for the last five years. Obviously, past performance
- 4:00Speaker 4: isn't on an indicator of future performance, but sometimes it
- 4:02Speaker 4: can tell you a lot about Oh well, if they've
- 4:04Speaker 4: grown x amount in five years.
- 4:06Speaker 3: And it's been sustainable, yeah, and what are they doing?
- 4:09Speaker 4: And then you can look in you can read up
- 4:10Speaker 4: about those companies. You can do a little google on tiktoks,
- 4:13Speaker 4: even one's talking about them.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Read the reports.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Because people are really interested in so many random things,
- 4:19Speaker 4: so someone else besides you is definitely interested.
- 4:22Speaker 2: So if you searched up.
- 4:23Speaker 4: There's probably someone that's made a video about it, and
- 4:24Speaker 4: you can just watch, learn a bit, and then learn
- 4:27Speaker 4: a little bit more exactly.
- 4:28Speaker 3: And I think obviously don't take tiktoks as gospel, But
- 4:31Speaker 3: I don't know about you, Brook. I find that TikTok
- 4:33Speaker 3: seems to be my number one search engine. Yes, I
- 4:36Speaker 3: want a new vacuum call. I'm looking it up on
- 4:38Speaker 3: TikTok first to see what other people think, and like
- 4:40Speaker 3: you want to see a video, yeah, exactly, like the
- 4:42Speaker 3: amount of robot vacuum videos that I have watched recently
- 4:45Speaker 3: of krange that and duck videos. But what does it
- 4:50Speaker 3: take for something to go from like you being oh,
- 4:53Speaker 3: I'm kind of interested in that. I'm looking it up
- 4:55Speaker 3: on TikTok, I'm looking it up on line, I'm googling it.
- 4:58Speaker 3: I'm reading their reports to actually going you know, I'm
- 5:00Speaker 3: going to put some money where my mouth is. I
- 5:02Speaker 3: want to make an actual investment.
- 5:03Speaker 2: How do you do that? Yeah? So, well, I guess
- 5:05Speaker 2: it depends.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Like I'm sure we'll do another episode on my Core
- 5:07Speaker 4: Versse satellite, but it's a different approach for both. So
- 5:10Speaker 4: if I'm looking at like an ETF. I feel less
- 5:13Speaker 4: concerned about researching it really, really, really heavily because it's
- 5:16Speaker 4: quite low risk. Whereas if I'm looking at a direct share,
- 5:20Speaker 4: I'm researching at heaps and then I'll pop it on
- 5:22Speaker 4: my watch list, and I pretty much will never buy
- 5:24Speaker 4: something within twenty four hours of putting on my watch list.
- 5:27Speaker 4: I'll put on my watch list always apply. Yeah, the
- 5:30Speaker 4: shopping was applied to investing, for sure, and it's going
- 5:32Speaker 4: to be things that I'm actually interested in. So say
- 5:34Speaker 4: it's like a random shop. Let's say looking at Bunnings.
- 5:38Speaker 4: If I'm interested in Bunnings, I had Bunning to my
- 5:40Speaker 4: watch list.
- 5:40Speaker 2: You wouldn't you dyed? West Farmers?
- 5:42Speaker 4: Yeah, well I don't know what. Yeah, perfect, So say
- 5:44Speaker 4: I add West Farmers my watch list. I'll wait a
- 5:46Speaker 4: couple of months. I'll go back and check, and if
- 5:48Speaker 4: the stock price has gone up a little bit and
- 5:50Speaker 4: their annual reports are still looking good, their price to
- 5:52Speaker 4: earnings ratio is good, I might go, Okay, maybe this
- 5:56Speaker 4: is something I'm interested in. Put a little bit of
- 5:58Speaker 4: money in. I would never dump heaps of money in.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Put a little bit of money, test the water, and
- 6:02Speaker 4: then go okay. I feel comfortable, everything looks good and
- 6:05Speaker 4: continue on.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Yeah, And I feel like that's my strategy as well.
- 6:09Speaker 3: And I think a lot of people historically when I've
- 6:11Speaker 3: talked about that, go but it's increased in price, brook
- 6:14Speaker 3: do you still want it? It's kind of like I'm
- 6:16Speaker 3: actually happy to buy in at a slightly higher price
- 6:19Speaker 3: if I feel like it's still going to be sustainable,
- 6:22Speaker 3: Like I don't want to go back in time and
- 6:24Speaker 3: then realize I made a terrible investment because I was
- 6:26Speaker 3: getting foumo and I just wanted to put my money
- 6:28Speaker 3: where my mouth was at SAP. So I think it's
- 6:31Speaker 3: an important thing to not I guess get worried about
- 6:34Speaker 3: increasing share prices. Just the right time to invest is
- 6:38Speaker 3: the right time for you, not the right time for you,
- 6:39Speaker 3: And you can't time the market.
- 6:41Speaker 4: So I'd rather get in now when it's maybe a
- 6:43Speaker 4: dollar more than it was last week, but then in
- 6:46Speaker 4: ten weeks it might be ten dollars more. So I
- 6:47Speaker 4: should be happy that I got in when I got in. Yeah,
- 6:50Speaker 4: and we're yeah, we're going time in.
- 6:51Speaker 3: I'm chasing the longest those or the highest highs, like
- 6:53Speaker 3: we just girls happy with that beverage exactly all right,
- 6:57Speaker 3: should we start maybe talking about our eat. Yes, When
- 7:01Speaker 3: you add an ETF to your watch list, what are
- 7:05Speaker 3: you actually looking for?
- 7:06Speaker 5: Like?
- 7:07Speaker 3: Are we looking at distribution of different companies? Are you
- 7:10Speaker 3: looking at a particular sector because that's interesting to you?
- 7:13Speaker 1: Like?
- 7:13Speaker 3: Are you just looking for a top two hundred? I
- 7:15Speaker 3: feel like there's so many different ETFs yep.
- 7:18Speaker 4: I think for ETFs is definitely the two different realms
- 7:20Speaker 4: you can go down, which is like the index fund
- 7:22Speaker 4: side of things, you know, the average of everything, or
- 7:25Speaker 4: a thematic ETF. And in recent times most of my
- 7:28Speaker 4: core portfolio is like index ETFs and managed funds. But
- 7:33Speaker 4: in recent times I've been dabbling a lot more in
- 7:35Speaker 4: thematic ETFs because there's so many different sectors that obviously
- 7:39Speaker 4: are in those other ETFs, but they're they're really interesting
- 7:42Speaker 4: to me, and I think they're growing really rapidly.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Track a lot of people are going to be like, girl,
- 7:46Speaker 3: we've only just started to dabble in ETFs. What the
- 7:49Speaker 3: hell is a thematic ATF. Thematic ETF That sounds scary, yep.
- 7:53Speaker 3: So thematic ETF.
- 7:54Speaker 4: So let's go with for example, what my first one
- 7:57Speaker 4: would be that's on my watch list is the crypto
- 7:59Speaker 4: innovation is ETF. So it's an ETF entirely around the
- 8:03Speaker 4: crypto industry, but it is not it's not big coin,
- 8:06Speaker 4: it's none of those is companies that are building infrastructure
- 8:09Speaker 4: for that. So platforms that you would buy crypto on
- 8:13Speaker 4: that would be in a thematic ETF for crypto, like
- 8:16Speaker 4: different infrastructures surrounding that topic. So then you might go
- 8:19Speaker 4: get like a beauty ETF and it's all beauty companies
- 8:22Speaker 4: or like search engineering, like there is an ETF for everything,
- 8:26Speaker 4: So that really.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Just means yeah, niche small two hundred. It's a like
- 8:32Speaker 3: industry specific ETF.
- 8:35Speaker 4: Like if you were going to go for like a
- 8:36Speaker 4: fruit salad ETF, it would just have fruits and it's
- 8:39Speaker 4: going to have no vegetables. Like that's what a thematic
- 8:41Speaker 4: ETF is. It's just those small things specific. Yeah, tick
- 8:44Speaker 4: those boxes and they're yeah, typically made by a bunch
- 8:47Speaker 4: of different companies like Beta shares do some vandguard do
- 8:50Speaker 4: some I shareses, so your hat companies do them. And
- 8:54Speaker 4: there is a thematic ETF for everything, and.
- 8:57Speaker 3: I think that that's where and you know not to
- 9:00Speaker 3: try and sell thematic ETFs, but you might go Oh, well,
- 9:03Speaker 3: I want to ETF and I've maybe gone and bought
- 9:05Speaker 3: like the high growth Banguard Top two hundred whatever ADHD. Yeah,
- 9:10Speaker 3: and we are excited about that. But then you're like,
- 9:12Speaker 3: but I want to be really specific, maybe I should
- 9:14Speaker 3: hold tech. And then you get a little bit confused,
- 9:17Speaker 3: and you're like, maybe I should like go and like
- 9:19Speaker 3: do some research into tech companies. Maybe if you're an
- 9:22Speaker 3: ETF girlie like we kind of are, we're not doing
- 9:25Speaker 3: specific research into the individual companies we could research. We're
- 9:29Speaker 3: doing research into a thematic ETF where you kind of go,
- 9:33Speaker 3: all right, so I know that I'm interested in tech,
- 9:36Speaker 3: and I think that that's going to be good for
- 9:38Speaker 3: my portfolio, good for my personal interests. I'm going to
- 9:41Speaker 3: get a professional who's picked literally everyone's their full time job, yep,
- 9:46Speaker 3: every tech company in that so I can say I've
- 9:48Speaker 3: got exposure to tech. That's what I wanted, that's what
- 9:50Speaker 3: I'm interested in. But the person who's picked all of
- 9:52Speaker 3: those individual companies, we.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Really knows what they're doing, yep. And it diversifies your
- 9:57Speaker 4: risk as well. So say you're investing in one tech company,
- 10:00Speaker 4: your risk for that company is one hundred percent you've
- 10:02Speaker 4: got one. So if it fluctuates, if it goes down, okay,
- 10:05Speaker 4: well all your portfolio is going down. But if you've
- 10:08Speaker 4: got your investing in a tech ETF that's got twenty
- 10:10Speaker 4: companies in it, your risk per share is five percent.
- 10:14Speaker 4: So it's those five companies. If one goes down or
- 10:18Speaker 4: the other, nineteen might be up, you don't know. So
- 10:21Speaker 4: like it kind of helps you without diversifying as well.
- 10:23Speaker 4: So if you're a bit scared to do direct shares,
- 10:26Speaker 4: it's like, okay, well you can just still pick a
- 10:27Speaker 4: thematic ETF and it's kind of like a direct share,
- 10:30Speaker 4: just with a little bit less risk, but also it's
- 10:32Speaker 4: still quite risky.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Yeah, And I feel like in twenty twenty five, with
- 10:36Speaker 3: the changing nature of technology social media, I used to
- 10:40Speaker 3: pick so back when I was giving financial advice, I
- 10:43Speaker 3: used to have basically all of my clients that had
- 10:46Speaker 3: an investment portfolio with me owned direct shares, and we
- 10:50Speaker 3: would hold between eight and maybe twelve direct shares.
- 10:54Speaker 2: We would diversify in that.
- 10:56Speaker 3: But I feel like now because it moves even more
- 11:00Speaker 3: radically personally, I've moved away from that. So my old
- 11:04Speaker 3: investing portfolio used to be I think eleven different shares,
- 11:08Speaker 3: and then I started picking up an ETF, and I
- 11:10Speaker 3: mean that was my first investment, but it kind of
- 11:12Speaker 3: went to the wayside when I thought I knew better.
- 11:15Speaker 3: And then now I would say ninety percent of my
- 11:18Speaker 3: portfolio is just different ETFs. I've got one specific ETF
- 11:22Speaker 3: that takes up fifty percent of my portfolio because I go, sorry, yep,
- 11:25Speaker 3: I trust this thangard high growth.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Love you like you're just making me feel safe.
- 11:30Speaker 4: Like you're middle aligns with your goals and you don't.
- 11:33Speaker 4: It's like a it's not low risk, but it's like
- 11:36Speaker 4: you really trust what's in there. Yeah, so you can
- 11:38Speaker 4: put it in there and not have to stress as much.
- 11:40Speaker 3: And like, my investing goals are long term. I'm not
- 11:44Speaker 3: here to try and find the next unicorn that shoots
- 11:47Speaker 3: the lights out and makes me really rich because the
- 11:51Speaker 3: probability of that happening is incredibly low.
- 11:53Speaker 4: Gambling like that, you're looking for that tiny little lotto ticket,
- 11:57Speaker 4: but you're not going to get that.
- 11:58Speaker 2: So with ETF, it's low and slow and that's that's
- 12:01Speaker 2: what we're doing.
- 12:01Speaker 3: So I asked you to come with a list of
- 12:03Speaker 3: your ETFs and shares that are on your watch list,
- 12:07Speaker 3: and I want you to tell me that, what's the
- 12:08Speaker 3: first cab off the It was.
- 12:09Speaker 4: Mentioned in my investing dough because it's my best performing ETF,
- 12:13Speaker 4: but I thought I would bring it back because it's
- 12:15Speaker 4: a good coals want to know about it, and I
- 12:17Speaker 4: mentioned it before, which is the Beta Shares Crypto Innovatus
- 12:19Speaker 4: ETFE with the ticket code CRYP if you want to
- 12:23Speaker 4: give it a Google. It offers exposure to global companies
- 12:26Speaker 4: building the crypto ecosystem, including coinbased right platforms, and micro strategy.
- 12:31Speaker 2: So it's not it's big, it's crypto.
- 12:35Speaker 3: No, it's the frameworks that are supporting cryptocurrency development.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Which I think is why I chose it, because obviously crypto'
- 12:44Speaker 4: is so risky and I consider crypto a bit of gambling.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I'm sure you do too, And I really wanted to
- 12:49Speaker 2: exposure to that industry.
- 12:50Speaker 4: But I don't want to go buy bitcoin because I
- 12:52Speaker 4: don't really alive to my investing goals.
- 12:54Speaker 2: But if that industry is going to boom, all the things.
- 12:57Speaker 4: Are around that of it, yea, all that, all the
- 12:59Speaker 4: things around these, I'm gonna do well. So that's why
- 13:02Speaker 4: my watch list I have been buying it for a
- 13:04Speaker 4: little while and it's up pretty good. So I've kept
- 13:08Speaker 4: on my watch list, and every time I'm like, okay, well,
- 13:10Speaker 4: I know it's going to crash because there's a very
- 13:11Speaker 4: like niche thematic ETF, I'm like, oh, I probably shouldn't
- 13:14Speaker 4: trust it.
- 13:15Speaker 2: It keeps going up, and I think, gosh, maybe I
- 13:17Speaker 2: am a financial advisor, so I mean.
- 13:20Speaker 3: It doesn't take much Like look where I've come from.
- 13:24Speaker 4: I know if you can do, anyone can. The ETF, though,
- 13:27Speaker 4: is incredibly high risk.
- 13:28Speaker 3: So that is always to one where everybody's kind of going, oh,
- 13:32Speaker 3: I'm a really interested in that, but like, sorry, we're
- 13:34Speaker 3: really pervy about individuals investing journeys. Have you got one
- 13:38Speaker 3: that's maybe a little bit more low risk on your
- 13:41Speaker 3: watch list that we could dive into.
- 13:42Speaker 2: The next one I have is Global x Fang.
- 13:45Speaker 4: It's a Global Xfang plus the Tiger Coade is FANNG.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I own this.
- 13:50Speaker 4: It tracks an equal weighted index of ten global tech giants,
- 13:54Speaker 4: including Apple, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Navidia, and Tesla.
- 13:57Speaker 3: So I picked this because I wanted to the international
- 14:01Speaker 3: market and I didn't want a top two hundred.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I think with like obviously being Australian we have
- 14:07Speaker 4: ETFs in the ASX two hundred and things like that.
- 14:10Speaker 4: But I don't really like index investing in America because
- 14:13Speaker 4: I don't really know those American companies that don't really
- 14:16Speaker 4: care about them, like the lower ones on the big dogs,
- 14:18Speaker 4: but I want the big dogs.
- 14:19Speaker 2: So having an ETF like this is good because you're
- 14:22Speaker 2: still really popular in our community. For this reason, you
- 14:25Speaker 2: get still get that.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Exposure to those top companies that we know and use.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Like all those companies on the list we all know,
- 14:31Speaker 4: we either use or we've all been in a Tesla
- 14:33Speaker 4: in on an uber, which we hated.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Because we hate electric cars. But it gives you exposure.
- 14:38Speaker 4: In twenty twenty four, the index returned over fifty percent,
- 14:42Speaker 4: outperforming the broader S and P five hundred, So those
- 14:45Speaker 4: ten companies outperformed by fifty percent.
- 14:47Speaker 2: So that's pretty good.
- 14:49Speaker 3: And if you break down, like me being a bit nerdy,
- 14:51Speaker 3: if you break down any of the top two hundred ETFs,
- 14:54Speaker 3: so like we always talk about diversifying your risk, and
- 14:58Speaker 3: if you purchase a top two hundred or a top
- 15:00Speaker 3: one hundred, or even a top five hundred, right, you're
- 15:02Speaker 3: getting exposure to all of those two hundred companies, but
- 15:06Speaker 3: most of the performance is actually driven by usually the
- 15:10Speaker 3: top TWENTYEP so you'll see that they're blowing the lights out.
- 15:14Speaker 3: But the thing is, you can't pick one hundred companies
- 15:17Speaker 3: and then I sit down with you and go, all right, brook,
- 15:19Speaker 3: let's pick who's going to perform.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Well, you don't know. You don't know. I wish I
- 15:23Speaker 2: had like a magic crystal ball and could tell you
- 15:26Speaker 2: because I'd be so rich. I know, actually i'd be
- 15:29Speaker 2: so rich. Should you just pick companies that you know?
- 15:31Speaker 4: Like, I know those companies, I kind of believe in
- 15:34Speaker 4: what they're doing, so I can put my money where
- 15:36Speaker 4: my mouth is and invest in something like that.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Yeah, So what's its performance look like more long term?
- 15:41Speaker 3: Obviously recently it's done really well, but we're always saying, look,
- 15:45Speaker 3: that's really sexy, but we need to zoom out chat
- 15:48Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 15:49Speaker 2: What's this like five year performance?
- 15:51Speaker 4: So in five years it's up get this one hundred
- 15:54Speaker 4: and fifty eight percent.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I knew that because that's what minds me looking pretty good.
- 15:59Speaker 2: I'm not mad about that. Call me an investor.
- 16:01Speaker 4: So I haven't purchased this yet because I have so
- 16:04Speaker 4: many eating like I accidentally have too much overlap. Yeah,
- 16:07Speaker 4: I'm sure we'll get into that in another episode about
- 16:09Speaker 4: what you do if you have overlap. But I have
- 16:12Speaker 4: too much overlap in this sector. So I haven't invested
- 16:14Speaker 4: in this yet. But year to date it's up four
- 16:17Speaker 4: point six two percent, so it's not doing that well.
- 16:19Speaker 4: But that means that there's still time for me to
- 16:21Speaker 4: jump in because it's not a bad No, it's not
- 16:23Speaker 4: bad because we're looking for the average over long term.
- 16:26Speaker 2: And also I think it's important as well.
- 16:28Speaker 3: These companies pay dividends, and they pay pretty consistent dividends,
- 16:32Speaker 3: which is another reason why I am quite interested in
- 16:35Speaker 3: this because as much as performance is really good, and
- 16:38Speaker 3: I think that we've really focused on that for this
- 16:41Speaker 3: part of the episode, we haven't really talked about you know,
- 16:43Speaker 3: dividend yield yet, but something that I'm looking at when
- 16:46Speaker 3: I am investing is like, yeah, I want to see
- 16:48Speaker 3: good performance over time. I want them to see I
- 16:50Speaker 3: want to see consistent growth, but I also want to
- 16:54Speaker 3: get paid. Like I don't care about dividends, see, I do,
- 16:58Speaker 3: because then I reinvest in. Like my my plan is
- 17:02Speaker 3: any money that my investment portfolio makes. I have one
- 17:05Speaker 3: hundred percent dividend reinvestment plan on and I don't pull
- 17:08Speaker 3: it out. And for me, I go, well, that's kind
- 17:12Speaker 3: of it's secretly building in the background and me, like
- 17:16Speaker 3: for Fang, for example, I know I want to continue
- 17:19Speaker 3: to own that. But when I put my little packet
- 17:22Speaker 3: of my investment money into my investment platform on a
- 17:25Speaker 3: monthly basis, that doesn't actually go to Fang.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Oh you're a monthly investor. I'm a monthly investor. That's
- 17:31Speaker 2: very interesting, do you know why?
- 17:34Speaker 3: And like I think a lot of people would assume, oh,
- 17:36Speaker 3: Victoria must invest like on a weekly.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I thought you would do a weekly.
- 17:39Speaker 3: I don't do weekly because I sometimes don't know what
- 17:42Speaker 3: my income can be. So like I, yeah, this is
- 17:47Speaker 3: like this is like the pervy stuff that I don't
- 17:48Speaker 3: think anyone in our business knows about how I get paid.
- 17:51Speaker 2: And do you know what, it's not a silver in
- 17:52Speaker 2: personal finances. But that's not like it's not a secret.
- 17:55Speaker 2: No one's just asked.
- 17:57Speaker 3: But the way that my income works is I pay
- 17:59Speaker 3: myself of like a really base minimum wage, like I
- 18:02Speaker 3: can cover my bills, I can cover my stuff, like
- 18:04Speaker 3: my husband and I have a budget. And then depending
- 18:07Speaker 3: on what's happening that month in our business, like whether
- 18:10Speaker 3: we've you know, for example, invested a whole heap in
- 18:13Speaker 3: marketing or branding or you know, and we don't do
- 18:15Speaker 3: these things that often, but like or we've hired someone new,
- 18:19Speaker 3: or we've you know, gone on a big work trip overseas.
- 18:23Speaker 4: Manifesting everyone in iNeST with me, we're going at a
- 18:25Speaker 4: big work trip overseas.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Sorry, I believe that you already have. I got a
- 18:28Speaker 2: presentation tonight.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Okay. Whenever the girls like side note, whenever the girls
- 18:33Speaker 3: want to go to like, uh, you know, a conference,
- 18:35Speaker 3: a conference or something which in our industry, because we're
- 18:38Speaker 3: in podcasting and in finance, it's really niche. Like there
- 18:42Speaker 3: are many conferences in Australia that are like, oh conference
- 18:45Speaker 3: for finance content creators, like they have to go overseas,
- 18:49Speaker 3: And I say, sorry, if you really want.
- 18:50Speaker 2: To go to that, you shall make a pay pay
- 18:52Speaker 2: for it. But I want a presentation. What am I
- 18:54Speaker 2: getting out of you?
- 18:55Speaker 1: Wait?
- 18:55Speaker 2: Do you say it is a delight? I'll share it
- 18:57Speaker 2: with the internet.
- 18:58Speaker 3: But when we talk about these things, that means that
- 19:02Speaker 3: I go, oh, well, I don't really want to personally
- 19:04Speaker 3: add any financial burden to my business by taking out
- 19:08Speaker 3: some money and because I only know that twelve times.
- 19:12Speaker 2: Singer back in the business. Yes, and that's actually my polarity.
- 19:15Speaker 3: So my priority is actually reinvesting in the business and
- 19:18Speaker 3: having that growth as opposed to my personal investment platform.
- 19:22Speaker 2: So I only invest on a monthly basis.
- 19:24Speaker 3: In some months, I can be like, oh, my god,
- 19:27Speaker 3: I did really well, Like maybe I've done like an
- 19:30Speaker 3: extra six speaking events, like we've you know, done a
- 19:32Speaker 3: whole heap of advertising on the podcast, and we've launched
- 19:35Speaker 3: a new course.
- 19:36Speaker 2: I might go, Okay, well i'll take you've got more budgets,
- 19:39Speaker 2: We'll take.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Five grand this month, because like I really want to
- 19:42Speaker 3: like obviously still be self sustaining, so something for me
- 19:46Speaker 3: or something that I get quite anxious about. Complete side
- 19:48Speaker 3: note is that the business cash flow what Yeah, no,
- 19:51Speaker 3: not just business cash flow. How long's podcasting gonna last? Yeah,
- 19:55Speaker 3: Like I feel like I'm made of shining, But I
- 19:58Speaker 3: also need to make sure that, like well, if she'd
- 20:00Speaker 3: hit the fan, like, I'm still financially individually stable. So
- 20:05Speaker 3: some months I might go, oh, take five grand, and
- 20:07Speaker 3: other months I'll go, oh, it's.
- 20:09Speaker 2: One hundred years and yeah, some.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Months, I'm like, we're just going to do the bare
- 20:13Speaker 3: minimum stick and it's okay. I think that's okay, But
- 20:16Speaker 3: for me it's not.
- 20:17Speaker 2: It's realistic.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Yeah, for me, it's not about like, oh, I have
- 20:20Speaker 3: this plan and I stick to it. It's kind of
- 20:22Speaker 3: like my priorities are first as a business owner, and
- 20:26Speaker 3: then second does an individual investor who can create individual
- 20:29Speaker 3: wealth because like, hopefully by making that decision, my business
- 20:33Speaker 3: will then in the future make more money and all
- 20:35Speaker 3: of that.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Right, So you're investing in other ways, and so that's
- 20:38Speaker 2: why it fluctuates.
- 20:40Speaker 3: Like if you looked at my investment contributions, I think
- 20:42Speaker 3: I did twelve hundred dollars last month total. Yeah, and
- 20:45Speaker 3: that was just because that's as you know, we've invested
- 20:48Speaker 3: a fair bit in lots of different things in the business.
- 20:51Speaker 2: And it's not a bad thing, No, it's just meat
- 20:55Speaker 2: like different priorities.
- 20:56Speaker 3: And we're so lucky, right, Like I share quite openly,
- 20:59Speaker 3: like we're our business flow is at with the team
- 21:01Speaker 3: because we're a small team and I never want anyone
- 21:03Speaker 3: to feed.
- 21:03Speaker 2: You don't feel in the dark. We feel like we
- 21:05Speaker 2: know a lot.
- 21:05Speaker 3: Yeah, but I do that because I don't want you
- 21:07Speaker 3: to go, oh, she's a small business. I don't want
- 21:09Speaker 3: to ask for things, or she's a small business. You know,
- 21:12Speaker 3: is my job secure? Like I want you to feel secure,
- 21:14Speaker 3: and I'd prefer to be sitting on a fair bit
- 21:17Speaker 3: of cash and just take a little bit from my staff.
- 21:19Speaker 3: So last month, I think it was like twelve hundred
- 21:22Speaker 3: dollars and then I added some more stuff from whatever
- 21:25Speaker 3: that I had in my bank account from not spending
- 21:27Speaker 3: because I didn't have time. So I was impressed, right,
- 21:30Speaker 3: But then there have been months where I'm doing five
- 21:32Speaker 3: or even seven thousand dollars because I'm like, okay, well
- 21:36Speaker 3: I've got comfortable.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Taking that out. Yeah.
- 21:38Speaker 5: Does that?
- 21:39Speaker 3: I feel like that gives good context to the community
- 21:41Speaker 3: as well, because they would be like, she must invest
- 21:43Speaker 3: every single week. Maybe one day when I feel a
- 21:46Speaker 3: little bit more secure.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Yes, So what else is on your financial watch list?
- 21:50Speaker 3: I've brought a few niche ones and I haven't purchased
- 21:53Speaker 3: these ones. I know that I think your watch list
- 21:55Speaker 3: you've got things that you're like, I'm still watching it
- 21:57Speaker 3: because I'm still consistently investing in it. Yeah, invest plan
- 22:01Speaker 3: is every single time I dump that money into my
- 22:04Speaker 3: investment portfolio. It goes fifty percent to the one share
- 22:07Speaker 3: that I have a lot of conviction in, and then
- 22:09Speaker 3: I diversify kind of drip feed it to the rest.
- 22:13Speaker 3: These are shares that are on my watch list because
- 22:15Speaker 3: I'm not sure if I want to buy in or not.
- 22:18Speaker 3: So the first one is ASX ticker code mote vote yep.
- 22:22Speaker 3: So it's VANK morning Star wide mote okay, And I
- 22:26Speaker 3: find this to be a relatively interesting share. So it's
- 22:29Speaker 3: a us ATF that owns companies morning Star. So morning
- 22:33Speaker 3: Star is like another VATA Shares or Vanguard. They're very
- 22:38Speaker 3: well known, so morning Star is, you know, as reputable.
- 22:41Speaker 3: I feel like we don't talk about it as much.
- 22:44Speaker 3: But they believe that these companies have durable competitive advantages
- 22:49Speaker 3: in investing. That's actually known as having like a really
- 22:52Speaker 3: wide moat, so if you think about a castle, it's
- 22:55Speaker 3: like a protective barrier. Thus the name of share. And
- 22:59Speaker 3: they think that those shares look undervalued. So they're kind
- 23:03Speaker 3: of like, oh, we're going to go and like have
- 23:05Speaker 3: a little lega code ATMAT.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I had Google the wrong one.
- 23:09Speaker 3: So basically and you're going to love this. Basically, it
- 23:13Speaker 3: follows the Warren Buffett style of investment, and we've discussed before. Yeah,
- 23:17Speaker 3: so I think you'll be relatively interested in this. I
- 23:20Speaker 3: would say it's a bit more of a like refined
- 23:23Speaker 3: approach to equity investing, so like you're not buying based
- 23:26Speaker 3: on the size or like the hype of a company.
- 23:28Speaker 3: You're actually buying based on quality and plast discipline, which
- 23:35Speaker 3: is why I've still got it on my list because
- 23:37Speaker 3: it's like not as shiny as like a fang where
- 23:41Speaker 3: you're kind of like, I know what I get it like,
- 23:43Speaker 3: but you will know some of the companies in here.
- 23:45Speaker 3: So the portfolio is relatively dynamic, and it has like
- 23:49Speaker 3: I would say, a fair few household names, so it
- 23:51Speaker 3: owns like Disney, it owns a Yep, Boweling, Pfizer, Nike, Yep.
- 23:59Speaker 3: So there's a fair few. But then there are a
- 24:00Speaker 3: whole heap of niche yet that I've never heard of,
- 24:03Speaker 3: and that I can always guarantee you've never heard of.
- 24:05Speaker 4: Well, that's kind of the thing that I don't really
- 24:07Speaker 4: have in my watch thiss is things I don't know,
- 24:09Speaker 4: because I feel like if I don't know, I shouldn't
- 24:11Speaker 4: trust it. But that's not true because some of the
- 24:13Speaker 4: best performing companies are companies I don't know.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Well, the reason this came onto my radar obviously, like
- 24:18Speaker 3: I'll tell you about share price and performance, but the
- 24:20Speaker 3: reason it came onto my radar was because of their
- 24:23Speaker 3: investment style. And I'm a nerd, so I really I know, right,
- 24:28Speaker 3: Like I was reading the Financial Review the other day
- 24:30Speaker 3: or no, actually a couple of months ago. It's been
- 24:32Speaker 3: sitting there for ages, But they were talking about the
- 24:35Speaker 3: investment styles being adopted by different ETF companies, and this
- 24:39Speaker 3: one fell under the Warren Buffett.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Style of investing.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Oh, that's relatively interesting because obviously I've said time and
- 24:46Speaker 3: time again I love that investing.
- 24:48Speaker 2: Style that tually is the best in history, so we
- 24:50Speaker 2: should enjoy that.
- 24:51Speaker 3: But if you'd shown me the list of companies have
- 24:54Speaker 3: probably been like, oh, I'm not entirely sure, because essentially
- 25:00Speaker 3: their analysts are consistently looking.
- 25:02Speaker 2: For what they call mote strength. Right, I've been kind
- 25:06Speaker 2: of loving the branding of all of them. I'm trying.
- 25:08Speaker 2: I'm trying, so you're selling it to me.
- 25:10Speaker 3: They define mote strength as like the brand power company
- 25:14Speaker 3: has switching costs, network effects and cost advantages, and those
- 25:20Speaker 3: that are then like weighted on their scale. And please
- 25:24Speaker 3: don't ask me, because I don't know what the hell
- 25:25Speaker 3: their scale is. I've just trusted that because their analysts
- 25:27Speaker 3: they know what they're talking about. Yes, the index then
- 25:30Speaker 3: picks what they rate as wide, and then of those
- 25:35Speaker 3: wide companies, it makes it to what morning Star thinks
- 25:39Speaker 3: is a fair trade value. So they're not looking for
- 25:43Speaker 3: companies like you know, Apple, which is blowing the lights out.
- 25:46Speaker 3: You're not going to find that on there because they're like, well,
- 25:48Speaker 3: we actually lookably think Yeah, but they obviously think that
- 25:52Speaker 3: like that might actually be overvalued because there's got too
- 25:55Speaker 3: much hype associated with it.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Yeah, so they're trying to do things that can be
- 26:00Speaker 2: bought at a reasonable price. Bowings boring.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not saying it actually has interesting like eleven
- 26:06Speaker 4: year backlog or something. They have something like six billion
- 26:08Speaker 4: dollars on the waitlist.
- 26:10Speaker 3: Of No one's talking about it, but like as an investment,
- 26:13Speaker 3: I'm sorry, they've got good cash flow coming up for
- 26:15Speaker 3: the next ten plus years.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Yeah, they've got a duopoly. I am that's a very
- 26:19Speaker 2: cool word. A duopoly. Well, because there's only two main
- 26:22Speaker 2: It's true, people, it's very true.
- 26:24Speaker 3: But essentially they are picking those companies, and then I
- 26:29Speaker 3: trust those analysts to have picked companies that they're like, oh,
- 26:33Speaker 3: if they think they're undervalued, that's going to be a
- 26:35Speaker 3: better recommendation than the Victoria DEVI.
- 26:37Speaker 2: I'm thinking it's undervalue.
- 26:38Speaker 4: And that's what people are working on these ETFs and
- 26:41Speaker 4: these managed funds full time.
- 26:42Speaker 2: That's what I trust these nerds. They live off love it,
- 26:45Speaker 2: I know, and we love that. We love an R. Yeah.
- 26:47Speaker 3: And they also rebalance the portfolio relatively consistently. So while
- 26:52Speaker 3: it's been on my watch list, I've seen things drop
- 26:55Speaker 3: off and come onto the ETF, which happens a fair
- 26:58Speaker 3: bit in things like top two hundreds where they have
- 27:00Speaker 3: to be like in the top two hundred performing, But
- 27:03Speaker 3: like this is more active than just and that's why.
- 27:05Speaker 2: You pay that management fee with an ETF for an
- 27:07Speaker 2: index vis.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:08Speaker 3: So essentially they rebalance on a pretty regular schedule, so
- 27:12Speaker 3: holdings turn over as prices move and then ratings evolve.
- 27:16Speaker 3: So it's not just like they're the top two hundred
- 27:18Speaker 3: and then stay there.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:19Speaker 3: But also like the performance is the reason they're on
- 27:22Speaker 3: that list, yep. It's also like there's mating of their
- 27:25Speaker 3: mote and they might go, oh, you're getting a little.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Bit too popular. I'm got to use the word mote.
- 27:30Speaker 3: Now, do you know what's interesting as well? And this
- 27:32Speaker 3: is where ETFs become a little bit more complex. If
- 27:34Speaker 3: I buy it today, I'll get everything in that portfolio.
- 27:38Speaker 3: But just because an ETF company drops it from your
- 27:40Speaker 3: portfolio doesn't mean you won't like still hold it, Like
- 27:44Speaker 3: they sell it on your behalf, but you're still having
- 27:46Speaker 3: had exposure.
- 27:47Speaker 2: To that company.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and then it will be switched with something that
- 27:50Speaker 3: they think is actually a better.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Option for you.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Like if you bought it today and I bought it tomorrow,
- 27:53Speaker 4: we might actually be holding different things. Say, if you
- 27:55Speaker 4: sold it tomorrow, we would have hold different things. You're
- 27:57Speaker 4: the same et.
- 27:58Speaker 3: Because of the way that they transact, want to make
- 28:00Speaker 3: sure that their response all about it. So in mode
- 28:02Speaker 3: interesting they only have fifty four holdings. And if we
- 28:06Speaker 3: talk about share price, it's currently one hundred and twenty
- 28:10Speaker 3: four dollars and eighty three cents per individual share, which
- 28:14Speaker 3: I would say is actually relatively.
- 28:15Speaker 4: It's eight percent risk per company that it has. Oh,
- 28:18Speaker 4: look at you just on the mass you've.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Got your calculator, Yes, and I feel like that makes
- 28:24Speaker 3: me feel quite.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Sick because it's diversified. Yeah, and we love diversity.
- 28:28Speaker 3: If we look at its performance over a long period
- 28:31Speaker 3: of time, I feel like me explaining this.
- 28:33Speaker 2: I'm like, why haven't I bought this? Yes, I'm like
- 28:35Speaker 2: trying to do you selling it to yourself? I think
- 28:37Speaker 2: I'm selling it to myself. But also we should go
- 28:39Speaker 2: shopping after this. We should let's go to Mecca. We're
- 28:42Speaker 2: getting on the ETF mark. Okay, sorry, sorry, that's yeah.
- 28:46Speaker 2: I was excited.
- 28:48Speaker 3: It's interesting because, like, I'm also relatively hesitant because I
- 28:51Speaker 3: do have a relatively ETF heavy portfolio.
- 28:54Speaker 2: So when it comes like adding another one, I'm like,
- 28:56Speaker 2: is this worth my investment?
- 28:58Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 28:58Speaker 3: And also if I add it, what percentage am I doing?
- 29:02Speaker 3: What am I diverting? Because it's not like, oh, I'm
- 29:04Speaker 3: going to find an extra one hundred and fifty bucks
- 29:06Speaker 3: a month or something to add this and consistently contribute.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Am I dropping down something to add it?
- 29:11Speaker 2: Is it worth it to replace something I already have
- 29:13Speaker 2: my portfolio with XYZ ETF. Yeah.
- 29:16Speaker 3: So the performance is really good. I won't say it's
- 29:19Speaker 3: blow the lights out in the same way.
- 29:21Speaker 2: That it's no fang no, but that's for a reason.
- 29:24Speaker 3: It's ten year return has been fourteen point seventy nine percent, which.
- 29:28Speaker 4: Is still above the market average, which in America is
- 29:30Speaker 4: thirteen percent. In Australia it's like eleven or nine.
- 29:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and five year performance is looking at sixteen yes,
- 29:37Speaker 3: that's good. Yeah yeah yeah, and then over the last
- 29:39Speaker 3: year it was eight point six which is still better
- 29:42Speaker 3: than inflation.
- 29:42Speaker 4: Yeah. But then it's like if people like, oh that
- 29:44Speaker 4: might maybe that's too risky for me. That's why we're
- 29:47Speaker 4: okay with that a that's why we're okay with a
- 29:48Speaker 4: normal ETF. That's like looking at the ASEX two hundred
- 29:51Speaker 4: or the SMP.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:53Speaker 3: And the income yield has been really good as well.
- 29:55Speaker 3: So in addition to it increasing in value on average
- 30:00Speaker 3: over the last ten years, it has returned three point
- 30:03Speaker 3: four to seven percent, which is just nice, like because
- 30:07Speaker 3: that's in addition and then more recently, if like go
- 30:11Speaker 3: down to five years, it's seven point nine four percent.
- 30:13Speaker 2: So I'm quite interested.
- 30:16Speaker 3: I'm quite happy with that because, as I said before,
- 30:18Speaker 3: like I don't know, call me greedy, I want to
- 30:21Speaker 3: get paid.
- 30:22Speaker 2: You're greedy, yeah, but like I want your hold. I
- 30:25Speaker 2: want that's what you want hold.
- 30:27Speaker 3: And I also want you collect and I want that
- 30:29Speaker 3: collection of my dividends to then be reinvested. So like
- 30:32Speaker 3: the money that my money is making is being reinvested
- 30:35Speaker 3: and making you more money. And like that's where I
- 30:38Speaker 3: guess you know, the magic of compounding interest comes from,
- 30:41Speaker 3: because right now, if I looked at your strategy, you
- 30:44Speaker 3: like you do actually hold a lot of stuff that
- 30:46Speaker 3: I hold, but you're not so interested in the dividends.
- 30:50Speaker 3: Your compounding interest is coming from your regular contributions. And
- 30:54Speaker 3: in a perfect world, I actually get thirty years in advance,
- 30:58Speaker 3: and my evidends is your salary is my salary that
- 31:02Speaker 3: I can reinvest or I can get.
- 31:06Speaker 2: She's happy, she's growing.
- 31:08Speaker 3: I don't have to sell down a single share, and
- 31:10Speaker 3: then all the dividends that get paid out on a
- 31:12Speaker 3: monthly basis I start living off.
- 31:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:14Speaker 4: See, I think my investing strategy might change where we
- 31:17Speaker 4: have a little bit of not a big age gap,
- 31:19Speaker 4: but a small edge gap between us, like.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Mass if it feels massive, she feels like a gen Z.
- 31:23Speaker 2: I am a gen Z, I know, but like you
- 31:25Speaker 2: feel like twenty seven everyone, she feels like a gen z.
- 31:29Speaker 2: I feel like a gen Z. I know all the slang.
- 31:31Speaker 2: I'm a TikToker.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Like what I think is my investing strategy is probably
- 31:34Speaker 4: going to change as I get a bit older, as
- 31:36Speaker 4: I'm getting closer to the mid thirties to the forties.
- 31:39Speaker 2: I'm sure my investing strategy we kind of go hold
- 31:41Speaker 2: on and I a shift. Yeah.
- 31:44Speaker 3: I think a lot of us when we have a
- 31:45Speaker 3: really good investment portfolio, we become relative really protective of it.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Like I don't know, like if I like it, I
- 31:52Speaker 3: don't want to have to sell something, especially if I know, oh,
- 31:55Speaker 3: I'm going to have to live off that investment portfolio
- 31:57Speaker 3: one day, but like what if it's still performing, Like
- 31:59Speaker 3: I don't want to something that's doing well so that
- 32:01Speaker 3: I can pay my bills, like I want them to
- 32:04Speaker 3: pay my bills.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Yep, that's my little plan.
- 32:07Speaker 3: So that's why I think whenever I'm looking at something,
- 32:10Speaker 3: I'm like, well, what's divid and yield as well? And
- 32:12Speaker 3: I think a lot of people in our community are
- 32:14Speaker 3: going to be interested in that.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Do you have any more on your watch list?
- 32:17Speaker 1: Yes?
- 32:18Speaker 2: I have another one. I used to hold her.
- 32:19Speaker 3: It was a morning Star Asian All Stars ETF and
- 32:25Speaker 3: that doesn't exist anymore. And I used to love it
- 32:27Speaker 3: because it like had all of these Asian companies that
- 32:31Speaker 3: essentially blew the lights out, and then they just decided,
- 32:33Speaker 3: we're not going to focus on that, We're going to rediversify.
- 32:36Speaker 3: So on my watch list is another Asia ETF because
- 32:39Speaker 3: I want to get back into that sector. I do
- 32:42Speaker 3: have like little bits and drips and drabs, but like
- 32:45Speaker 3: I want a specific Asia one. I don't know everything
- 32:48Speaker 3: that comes out of China. Yeah, sorry, like basically everything
- 32:52Speaker 3: we own, where's it come from?
- 32:54Speaker 2: Asia? Yep?
- 32:56Speaker 3: So it's on my watch list. But the ETF that
- 32:59Speaker 3: I had picked the ASEX code get this Asia.
- 33:04Speaker 4: Really I love that they got that, you know, I
- 33:07Speaker 4: do wonder. I don't know how this works. How do
- 33:09Speaker 4: they get a ticker code?
- 33:10Speaker 2: Do they have to apply?
- 33:11Speaker 1: Is it like a.
- 33:13Speaker 2: So they don't get allocate? You can request a specific
- 33:17Speaker 2: ticker cort.
- 33:19Speaker 3: You might have seen different companies that have specific ticker
- 33:22Speaker 3: codes that are related to their name, and some of
- 33:24Speaker 3: them are groovy, yeah, but they also have to be free,
- 33:29Speaker 3: as in, if the chicker coder exists with someone else,
- 33:31Speaker 3: they're going to have to be a little bit creative,
- 33:32Speaker 3: so every other Asia ETF.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Is not going to be able to have that. Asia
- 33:36Speaker 2: is very groovy.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Yeah, anyway, I think that's cool. But it's owned by
- 33:39Speaker 3: Beta Shares. It's the Beta Shares Technology Tigers ETF.
- 33:43Speaker 2: That's a beautiful name.
- 33:44Speaker 3: I think it sounds real cute. It does, but it
- 33:46Speaker 3: is an ETF. Again, we're well over Japan. It does
- 33:51Speaker 3: because Japan has very different performance goals, especially when it
- 33:56Speaker 3: comes to I'll explain it and you'll go, oh, this
- 34:00Speaker 3: makes sense. So it's got fifty different companies in it,
- 34:03Speaker 3: so again a bit of a smaller ETF, and it
- 34:05Speaker 3: has fifty of the biggest tech and online retail companies
- 34:09Speaker 3: across Asia, not including Japan.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Yeah, they have some very interesting companies.
- 34:13Speaker 3: I'm talking now Samsung, They've got TSMC, They've got Tencent,
- 34:19Speaker 3: they've got Ali Barber, which I.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Think a lot of US would have already heard of.
- 34:23Speaker 3: And it's essentially a way to invest in global tech
- 34:26Speaker 3: that's not just US. So like I own Fang and
- 34:29Speaker 3: that gives me access to global tech that is American.
- 34:33Speaker 2: So like the big dogs we're talking.
- 34:35Speaker 4: Apple has Coacao too, which is a Korean maps app,
- 34:38Speaker 4: which is very cool.
- 34:39Speaker 2: If you've been to Korea, you'll know Cacao. But I
- 34:42Speaker 2: think that that's a favor. Yeah, there's some very cool
- 34:44Speaker 2: companies in there.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Yes, So essentially it covers really fast growing sectors. That's
- 34:50Speaker 3: why it kicks out Japan because Japan's a little bit
- 34:53Speaker 3: more I would say sustainable things.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Like Samsung was Japanese? No, am I wrong? Yes? Does
- 35:00Speaker 2: that feel good? Yes?
- 35:03Speaker 3: But it has like e commerce as we said before,
- 35:06Speaker 3: things like semiconductors and social media in ok, sorry that's
- 35:11Speaker 3: social media, not in Japan.
- 35:12Speaker 4: Social media, Yeah, because Cacao and Nava are two very
- 35:16Speaker 4: massive platforms in Korea.
- 35:17Speaker 2: So and also you've be into Korea.
- 35:19Speaker 3: I love no Facebook, No they have to Facebook, No Google,
- 35:23Speaker 3: No TikTok, No they TikTok?
- 35:25Speaker 2: Do they actually have tik tok? But is it China?
- 35:28Speaker 2: China doesn't have.
- 35:29Speaker 3: China doesn't have TikTok? But you want like when you
- 35:33Speaker 3: start thinking about that, these are massive economies and huge economies.
- 35:38Speaker 3: We also know them on social media. So what are
- 35:41Speaker 3: they creating that I could get in on?
- 35:43Speaker 4: And they're like very intuitive, like those sort of systems
- 35:46Speaker 4: like Cacao and Nava. You can pay for things through them,
- 35:49Speaker 4: you can do shopping, you can book appointments, you can
- 35:51Speaker 4: get like their equivalent of Uber eats, and they're all
- 35:54Speaker 4: those systems and I didn't know they existed until.
- 35:57Speaker 2: I was there and I was like, wow, they're massive,
- 35:58Speaker 2: the massive market, and you might.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Not have heard of them because yeah, they're not on
- 36:04Speaker 3: your like yeah, but you're going to be surprised here.
- 36:09Speaker 3: This ETF does not have good dividends.
- 36:12Speaker 2: Okay, that's fine for me because that's kind.
- 36:14Speaker 3: But I think it's really interesting because again, it gives
- 36:16Speaker 3: you access to investments.
- 36:19Speaker 2: That are just not on your radar, not on your radar,
- 36:21Speaker 2: but also like have become on my radar. Like I'm
- 36:23Speaker 2: such a nerd.
- 36:24Speaker 3: I'm looking up so like and that I don't even
- 36:26Speaker 3: think it's nerdy. I think it's pervy. It's market research.
- 36:28Speaker 3: If it's free on the internet.
- 36:30Speaker 2: We love, we love a gossip, so like looking at
- 36:33Speaker 2: these sort of things is gossip. What are you guys doing?
- 36:35Speaker 2: Give us?
- 36:36Speaker 3: And then I'm looking these companies up on TikTok and
- 36:38Speaker 3: being like, what are other people saying about them? Just
- 36:41Speaker 3: so I get an understanding of what the hell that
- 36:43Speaker 3: ETFs made up? Of course I'm not gonna lie. The
- 36:45Speaker 3: companies that you're talking about I now know of because
- 36:47Speaker 3: of this ETF, but I had no idea before.
- 36:50Speaker 2: They're not on your experience.
- 36:53Speaker 4: And then like you look at things like Samsung in Australia,
- 36:55Speaker 4: like everyone has either an iPhone or a Samsung, but
- 36:57Speaker 4: it's more on the iPhone side of things, but a
- 37:00Speaker 4: lot of Asian countries it is Samsung. It's androids, it's
- 37:03Speaker 4: those Yeah, it's those sort of systems, and it's okay
- 37:06Speaker 4: you want to be touching in that area because it's
- 37:08Speaker 4: like okay, otherwise I'm not going to have exposure to
- 37:10Speaker 4: that because I only know this here.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Yeah, and I don't know if you know this, because
- 37:13Speaker 3: I know that most people don't know this, but Samsung
- 37:16Speaker 3: are actually suppliers to Apple for their internal tech.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Really a lot of the Apple's internal tech.
- 37:21Speaker 3: This is the kind of goss has been made by
- 37:23Speaker 3: Samsung and then shared with Apple, so like not the
- 37:27Speaker 3: patented stuff, but like just a lot of.
- 37:30Speaker 2: Their tech, a lot of their batteries.
- 37:31Speaker 3: Like there used to be or there was a whole
- 37:33Speaker 3: like thing on social media probably like five years ago
- 37:35Speaker 3: where people would break open their iPhones and like find
- 37:38Speaker 3: Samsung batteries and shit tea. Anyway, I think that's really interesting.
- 37:42Speaker 3: But it's not a dividend yielding ETF. It's more of
- 37:45Speaker 3: a growth focused ETF, which is why I'm interested in
- 37:48Speaker 3: it because I'm still at that young phase of my
- 37:50Speaker 3: like investing career.
- 37:52Speaker 2: You've got time for that compound interest and I want
- 37:54Speaker 2: the tea.
- 37:54Speaker 3: I want to know what's going on. I feel like
- 37:56Speaker 3: it's so interesting. So returns are more dependent on those
- 38:02Speaker 3: businesses growing and increasing and popularity, which is my.
- 38:06Speaker 2: Far sel of investing.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and like I haven't invested yet. I'm being pervy
- 38:12Speaker 3: on it because I'm interested. But I think it's also
- 38:14Speaker 3: important to note that it is an unhedged fund, so
- 38:19Speaker 3: there's a number of currency risks that are involved, and.
- 38:23Speaker 4: The hedged means that the currency risk is not involved. Yes,
- 38:26Speaker 4: so it's based on yes, so currency risk applies to this.
- 38:31Speaker 3: So essentially what that means is if the Australian dollar moves,
- 38:34Speaker 3: it actually impacts your returns, and like that's something that
- 38:38Speaker 3: you have to find.
- 38:39Speaker 2: Yeah, we factor it in and like, I actually love.
- 38:42Speaker 3: Something that's hedged, but I also love unhedged because sometimes
- 38:45Speaker 3: it does give you better returns. And like these companies
- 38:48Speaker 3: when they're putting together an ETF, they're not like, oh,
- 38:51Speaker 3: we can't.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Hedge this, yep, because they're the more edged.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Yeah, they're more likely to say, well, we won't hedge
- 38:56Speaker 3: this because you know it doesn't something matter and they're
- 38:59Speaker 3: smashing lights out anyway. So if currency risk is involved, like,
- 39:03Speaker 3: let's just put that back onto our individual investors, because
- 39:06Speaker 3: that's another layer of usually risk for them to take
- 39:10Speaker 3: on because like they're hedging, but also another layer of
- 39:14Speaker 3: fees because there's so much more like admin and organizing
- 39:17Speaker 3: that they have to do, so they kind of look
- 39:19Speaker 3: at it and go, well, maybe it's not worth it
- 39:20Speaker 3: for that. So it's an emerging market's risk. Obviously, we
- 39:25Speaker 3: know that Asian countries have I don't know, there's just
- 39:29Speaker 3: a lot going on with their government. There's a lot
- 39:31Speaker 3: going on with regulation, a lot going on with political tension.
- 39:36Speaker 2: And they have such good food. Yes they do. They
- 39:38Speaker 2: just know their shit.
- 39:40Speaker 3: But I think it's important to note all of that
- 39:43Speaker 3: because it does make this ETF a little bit more
- 39:45Speaker 3: risky or like volatile share PRICEO, you're going to be happy.
- 39:49Speaker 3: My last one was relatively expensive. What's this one twelve
- 39:52Speaker 3: dollars and twenty five cents.
- 39:53Speaker 2: I fear that's cheaper than a big mat male it is.
- 39:56Speaker 3: I don't have ten year returns for you because it's
- 39:58Speaker 3: actually only.
- 39:58Speaker 2: Exists for five years. It's a baby, she's just a baby.
- 40:01Speaker 3: And in the first five years they or over the
- 40:04Speaker 3: last five years, they've returned eight point three percent, which
- 40:07Speaker 3: is something that I wouldn't have been interested in.
- 40:10Speaker 2: You see the future for it. Sorry, last year thirty
- 40:13Speaker 2: point three. Okay, so if we zoom out, it doesn't
- 40:15Speaker 2: look that good. But if we're zooming in a little bit,
- 40:17Speaker 2: it does.
- 40:18Speaker 4: I just had a little look and there was a
- 40:19Speaker 4: dip in twenty twenty three, so I do wonder what
- 40:22Speaker 4: happened there. But we're not going to look at that
- 40:23Speaker 4: for now because we thinking about the future because the
- 40:25Speaker 4: past performance that five years, it doesn't matter because that's
- 40:28Speaker 4: not going to affect the future.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Yes, income has not been good. No, so like this
- 40:33Speaker 2: that's on your watch list.
- 40:34Speaker 3: Yeah, And that's why I'm kind of like I make
- 40:37Speaker 3: these rules up and like, guys, I've made them up
- 40:39Speaker 3: in my head based on what I'm comfortable with, and
- 40:41Speaker 3: this is what I want you to do, not based
- 40:44Speaker 3: on how Victoria.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Said, you should know you have to have your own metrics.
- 40:47Speaker 3: I want dividend yield because I feel like, in a
- 40:50Speaker 3: perfect world, like I pick all these shares and like
- 40:53Speaker 3: I'm going to continue playing with it, but like I
- 40:55Speaker 3: just want that dividend income to become my income one day.
- 40:59Speaker 3: So this doesn't provide that. And I'm kind of like,
- 41:01Speaker 3: am I going to give myself exposure to this in
- 41:04Speaker 3: the short term? And then at what point, Like they
- 41:06Speaker 3: don't have any information online about the fact that they
- 41:09Speaker 3: might become dividend yielding.
- 41:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I'm kind of.
- 41:12Speaker 3: Like, oh, like how good if they are just in
- 41:14Speaker 3: growth phase and then all of a sudden it will
- 41:17Speaker 3: change and that happens sometimes, Like.
- 41:19Speaker 4: Yeah, investment like eachfs and stuff are not set and
- 41:22Speaker 4: they're not going to change their strategy. Yeah, it's going
- 41:25Speaker 4: to grow and evolve with the different people that manage
- 41:26Speaker 4: that point.
- 41:27Speaker 3: Yeah, And that's where I want you guys to sit
- 41:28Speaker 3: down and like you've done this Brook, but like sit
- 41:31Speaker 3: down and go okay, before I even look at like ETFs,
- 41:34Speaker 3: what do I want out of this? And like, for me,
- 41:36Speaker 3: I want dividend yield. I want consistent growth I'm happy
- 41:39Speaker 3: if that consistent growth comes at the cost of dividend yield.
- 41:42Speaker 3: So like I'd prefer like if you said, v like,
- 41:45Speaker 3: what does your ETF perform and I go, oh, it
- 41:47Speaker 3: was like nine and a half percent. You go, but
- 41:48Speaker 3: this one's fourteen and I go, yeah, but this one
- 41:50Speaker 3: also has dividend yield, And for me.
- 41:52Speaker 2: That's more important.
- 41:54Speaker 3: Like that over the long term fits into my investment strategy.
- 41:58Speaker 4: I could not care less if I never got a dividend. Ever,
- 42:01Speaker 4: if I just got really good growth yield, I'm like Bobbler.
- 42:04Speaker 2: And called that's what I want.
- 42:06Speaker 3: So I think for me, it's sitting on my watch
- 42:08Speaker 3: list still because income is not incredible. But total returns
- 42:13Speaker 3: have been pretty good. I mean, over the last one
- 42:15Speaker 3: month has done seven point nine to five, over the
- 42:17Speaker 3: last three months nine point one two. Like she's being
- 42:20Speaker 3: consistent now work and over time. But I mean in
- 42:23Speaker 3: twenty twenty three there was a dit. It was just
- 42:26Speaker 3: because of like economic tension.
- 42:28Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's also that's also the fact that you
- 42:31Speaker 2: have to consider.
- 42:32Speaker 3: Yeah, so let's probably stop talking about this, because I
- 42:35Speaker 3: could keep talking about it until the cows come home
- 42:37Speaker 3: and we can take a little quick break and when
- 42:39Speaker 3: we come back, we're going to Yeah, maybe we'll go shopping.
- 42:43Speaker 3: I'll open my app and you can open yours and
- 42:44Speaker 3: we can look at our whole watch lists, and then
- 42:46Speaker 3: we're going to get back into some more juicy stuff.
- 42:49Speaker 3: But I think we should like pivot and talk maybe
- 42:51Speaker 3: a little bit more about direct shares the companies we're
- 42:54Speaker 3: actually watching and might invest in it work individually.
- 42:59Speaker 2: So guys don't go anywhere.
- 43:04Speaker 3: All right, we are back, and I feel like you
- 43:07Speaker 3: and I have investing strategies that are really based around
- 43:10Speaker 3: ETFs and managed funds and we're not so much direct
- 43:14Speaker 3: shared galies. But like, sorry, last time you were on
- 43:17Speaker 3: the show, I was telling you about my.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I did google that afterwards, did you? And did
- 43:24Speaker 2: you see why I was? She doesn't look good. They're like, sorry,
- 43:28Speaker 2: it's not my journey. That's not going on.
- 43:29Speaker 3: You read all of their annual reports. I won't be
- 43:33Speaker 3: if she wanted to, you'd be impressed. Jess is also
- 43:36Speaker 3: into powering, you know, That's what I giggled. I don't
- 43:39Speaker 3: know if Jess is into paradigm because I was into
- 43:42Speaker 3: I was like.
- 43:42Speaker 4: A you and Jess thing, and it's not going to
- 43:44Speaker 4: be my journey. I'm going to let you have that one,
- 43:46Speaker 4: but I'm not you know what, that's.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Good and I think that people need to hear that.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Just because I said different investing and we can have
- 43:52Speaker 2: differing opinions. It makes up less than one percent of
- 43:56Speaker 2: my portfolio at this point. I'm glad. But Brooke, I
- 43:59Speaker 2: want to know do you hold any direction shes.
- 44:02Speaker 4: I own a heap of direct shares, mostly in America,
- 44:05Speaker 4: some in Australia, all that jazz, but I have a
- 44:07Speaker 4: rule with direct shares. I need to be personally interested
- 44:10Speaker 4: because I don't have time to research a random company
- 44:13Speaker 4: that I don't know and I don't care about. So
- 44:15Speaker 4: my direct shares and anything that's are my direct shares watch, Liz,
- 44:18Speaker 4: are pretty much companies I love and know.
- 44:21Speaker 2: And if you know me, you know that I love Costco.
- 44:25Speaker 2: I adore Costco.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Every country that's what you've picked a share, yes or
- 44:30Speaker 4: share every country that I go to, I check before
- 44:33Speaker 4: I go that there's a Costco. I'm going to Europe
- 44:34Speaker 4: the end of the year for three months. Please send
- 44:35Speaker 4: me your tips. But me and my partner have already
- 44:38Speaker 4: looked at all the different costcos that we can.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Go to to Korea.
- 44:41Speaker 3: We are very lucky. We've been on a few overseas
- 44:44Speaker 3: trips with World bless yet, but every single time we go,
- 44:47Speaker 3: we actually have to build in like either a morning
- 44:50Speaker 3: or an afternoon trip for.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Brook to Costco. It's mandatrue. It's amazing.
- 44:54Speaker 4: I'm so passionate about Costco, especially because in America, Costco
- 44:58Speaker 4: has other kind of competitors. In Australia we don't really
- 45:01Speaker 4: have Costco competitors. Costco is its own thing here, whereas
- 45:04Speaker 4: in America there's Sam's Club, there's fedmat like, there's those
- 45:08Speaker 4: sort of competitors. And it's just such an interesting like
- 45:10Speaker 4: concept of a store that you're going to pay a
- 45:12Speaker 4: membership to go to a grocery store. And for me,
- 45:16Speaker 4: I love the membership. I pay that fee every year. Happily,
- 45:18Speaker 4: I've probably paid double. But it's on my watch list.
- 45:21Speaker 4: I don't own Costco as a shared just yet.
- 45:24Speaker 2: But I will watch list.
- 45:25Speaker 3: But why, Like, we know what the company is. I
- 45:27Speaker 3: think everyone listening knows what it is. But like, Pete,
- 45:30Speaker 3: why are you interested in making an investment in Costco?
- 45:34Speaker 4: Well, when we think about it, Costco has an annual
- 45:36Speaker 4: membership to the annual membership fee in Australia is sixty
- 45:39Speaker 4: five dollars.
- 45:39Speaker 3: It's just an income. We love to see it.
- 45:41Speaker 2: It's consistent income for Costco.
- 45:42Speaker 4: Regardless if I shop there, I still pay my membership fee,
- 45:45Speaker 4: and so that sixty five dollars I pay is probably
- 45:48Speaker 4: equivalent around the world. And they had seventy six point
- 45:51Speaker 4: two million paid members worldwide.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Stop it. That is crazy.
- 45:55Speaker 3: I don't even need to sell any five dollars those chicks.
- 45:58Speaker 2: And that's they have. The just the business model of
- 46:00Speaker 2: Costco is really intelligent to me.
- 46:02Speaker 4: So they have these things called lost Leaders, which are
- 46:05Speaker 4: their roast chook, which in Australia is like five ninety nine,
- 46:08Speaker 4: but in America it's even cheaper.
- 46:09Speaker 2: I think it's four ninety or three ninety nine, and
- 46:11Speaker 2: they make.
- 46:12Speaker 4: It really cheap so that you will go to Costco
- 46:14Speaker 4: to get that roast chicken because it's so much cheaper
- 46:16Speaker 4: than everywhere else. They anticipate that when you go to
- 46:19Speaker 4: Costco for that roastchrook, well you'll also pick up X
- 46:22Speaker 4: y Z. They have their hot dog which is one
- 46:24Speaker 4: dollar ninety nine. You also get a drink with that,
- 46:27Speaker 4: and it's such a good deal. People have tried to
- 46:29Speaker 4: make the CEO put that price up of the hot
- 46:31Speaker 4: dog because they lose money when they sell that to you,
- 46:33Speaker 4: but he won't because it's such a bread and.
- 46:35Speaker 2: Butter gets people.
- 46:36Speaker 4: It gets you on the door, and I look forward
- 46:39Speaker 4: to going to Costco on a Sunday with my partner.
- 46:41Speaker 4: I get a slice of pizza, he gets a hot dog,
- 46:43Speaker 4: We get a roast chook, and we get so many
- 46:45Speaker 4: fun little things you don't. It's like Costco's kind of
- 46:47Speaker 4: like Camap. You walk in not knowing what you need,
- 46:49Speaker 4: and Costco tel.
- 46:50Speaker 3: Shit and they it's kind of like Audi yep, and
- 46:53Speaker 3: they have like that center area. I've always got something
- 46:57Speaker 3: different that I didn't know I needed.
- 46:59Speaker 2: Yep.
- 46:59Speaker 3: It's really annoying because I end up spending so much
- 47:02Speaker 3: money and.
- 47:02Speaker 2: It's worth it.
- 47:03Speaker 4: But those membership fees, so that sixty five dollars you
- 47:05Speaker 4: pay a year membership fees brought in four point eight
- 47:08Speaker 4: billion dollars in revenue stop it. So that's a major
- 47:12Speaker 4: chunk of their net income, which is pretty impressive. Like,
- 47:16Speaker 4: could you imagine you have to pay a grocery Like
- 47:18Speaker 4: you go to your local grocery store and you need
- 47:20Speaker 4: to pay six five dollars a year to shop there.
- 47:22Speaker 4: People would think that was absurd, but for Costco, no
- 47:24Speaker 4: one about tone, No.
- 47:25Speaker 2: That's crazy.
- 47:26Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's their like income and income is great,
- 47:30Speaker 3: but I want to know performance, like are they performing well?
- 47:34Speaker 2: What does their share price actually look like? Because what you.
- 47:37Speaker 3: Could tell me, Oh, they're earning billions fee, but then
- 47:40Speaker 3: it also costs them billions.
- 47:41Speaker 2: And like their profits like a dollar you know, like
- 47:44Speaker 2: that's good.
- 47:45Speaker 3: So tell me about the business and why you go, Oh,
- 47:47Speaker 3: it's on my watch list as an actual investment, not
- 47:50Speaker 3: just their income is sexy.
- 47:51Speaker 4: Well, over the last five years, Costco is up one
- 47:55Speaker 4: hundred and seventy six percent and they do you.
- 47:57Speaker 3: Think that that's driven by cost of living crisis and
- 48:00Speaker 3: turning towards bulk shopping.
- 48:03Speaker 4: No, I think that the people that shop at Costco
- 48:06Speaker 4: are not doing it for the bulk idea, Like I
- 48:09Speaker 4: don't think they're doing it to save money, Like obviously
- 48:11Speaker 4: I think the idea is that you would do that,
- 48:13Speaker 4: But I think Costco shoppers are like Costco shoppers, Like
- 48:16Speaker 4: I don't think I never checked to see if something
- 48:19Speaker 4: cheaper at Costco.
- 48:20Speaker 2: I go to Costco tro pesto that they have.
- 48:22Speaker 3: It's called Cilantro pesto because it's America and otherwise it's.
- 48:27Speaker 2: It is so good.
- 48:28Speaker 4: I just think that the people that shop at Costco
- 48:30Speaker 4: trust Costco and Costco does their own sort of products
- 48:34Speaker 4: as well. So they have Kirkland Signature, which is like
- 48:36Speaker 4: their version of home brand. But their idea with Kirkland
- 48:39Speaker 4: Signature is to make a product that is equal or
- 48:42Speaker 4: better to the competitor in the market and cheaper, so
- 48:45Speaker 4: they won't bring something out unless they can do it cheaper.
- 48:47Speaker 2: And better smart.
- 48:49Speaker 4: So all of those sort of products do really well,
- 48:51Speaker 4: and they're like some of the number one performing products
- 48:53Speaker 4: in Costco because one you can only get them at
- 48:55Speaker 4: Costco and two they're cheaper than like the standard product
- 49:00Speaker 4: people go for that like people buy Kirkland Signature merch
- 49:03Speaker 4: Every year, Costco will come out with Kirkland Signature jumpers.
- 49:06Speaker 2: And I've considered getting the tracksuit.
- 49:07Speaker 3: I've considered it, and that's because I'm a loyalist tracksuit,
- 49:10Speaker 3: so you don't need to know I've.
- 49:11Speaker 4: Got I've got one really good tracksuit, so I don't
- 49:13Speaker 4: need another one. I'm not in the market, but just
- 49:15Speaker 4: I can't imagine you're wearing the hat, though.
- 49:17Speaker 2: I would one hundred percent with the hat. Do you
- 49:19Speaker 2: know Quantus gave me a hat yesterday?
- 49:20Speaker 3: Quantus gave you a hat and they didn't make it
- 49:23Speaker 3: to your watch list.
- 49:24Speaker 4: They did make my watch list. I don't believe in
- 49:25Speaker 4: the brand on the watch list, but no, they gave
- 49:27Speaker 4: me a hat.
- 49:28Speaker 3: So why haven't you bought it yet? You're obsessed with Costco.
- 49:30Speaker 3: You obviously have got really great performance. Why haven't you
- 49:33Speaker 3: been in the bullet.
- 49:34Speaker 4: I generally just didn't consider it until like a couple
- 49:37Speaker 4: of months ago, and I was like looking at different
- 49:38Speaker 4: companies to buy because I have like the regular things
- 49:41Speaker 4: on my direct shares list.
- 49:44Speaker 2: And then I thought, what would I buy if I
- 49:46Speaker 2: had to buy something now?
- 49:46Speaker 4: If I could buy a share in that, And I thought,
- 49:48Speaker 4: what are my favorite companies? Like, what is a company
- 49:50Speaker 4: that I truly believe in? And that would be Costco.
- 49:52Speaker 4: So I think within the next few months I might
- 49:54Speaker 4: pull the trigger on Costco. But I definitely own Costco
- 49:57Speaker 4: in some of my ATMs. I'm not too worried about
- 50:00Speaker 4: having it. But I think in twenty years time, Costco
- 50:03Speaker 4: will still be doing good.
- 50:04Speaker 2: So that's why I would buy it. That's really fun. Yes,
- 50:08Speaker 2: So what is your direct share on your watch list?
- 50:11Speaker 3: So this is an Australian company, tell me about it
- 50:13Speaker 3: that I just this is going to sound really bad.
- 50:16Speaker 3: But I didn't care too much about before.
- 50:19Speaker 2: And then I had a baby and I was like
- 50:23Speaker 2: a baby. I know, it's crazy. I don't even think
- 50:25Speaker 2: you should have mentioned him.
- 50:26Speaker 3: I'm a mom your mother, I'm a momosita exactly. And
- 50:31Speaker 3: I realized that going out for coffee every single day
- 50:34Speaker 3: is not like viable. It's not that I can't afford
- 50:37Speaker 3: a coffee every single day having a child, but I
- 50:40Speaker 3: can't leave the house and my pod machine is just
- 50:43Speaker 3: not cutting it anymore. So I took to the internet
- 50:45Speaker 3: and I said, guys, like coffee machine recommendations please, and
- 50:50Speaker 3: like I got recommendations from like one hundred dollar machines
- 50:53Speaker 3: from Audi all the way up to like literally thirty
- 50:55Speaker 3: thousand dollars at home, like gorgeous, very fast. I did
- 50:59Speaker 3: not realize how expensive they could get that, and it
- 51:02Speaker 3: was like, holy guacamole. There is a marketing coffee machines,
- 51:06Speaker 3: and so I cho a coffee machine exactly. I picked
- 51:08Speaker 3: a brevel Are. I picked a Brevel and I went
- 51:12Speaker 3: with the Brevel Oracle and low Ki annoyed because I
- 51:14Speaker 3: got it a couple of months ago and they've just
- 51:16Speaker 3: come out with a new one.
- 51:18Speaker 2: They's always friends, so them Innovating Limited. It's on the ASX.
- 51:23Speaker 3: Their ticker code is BRG and most of you would
- 51:26Speaker 3: know Brevyl, so like you've heard of it. It's at
- 51:29Speaker 3: the good guys, it's bloody.
- 51:30Speaker 4: Would you like a fun fat yes, I would like
- 51:33Speaker 4: to offer you a fun fact that if you are
- 51:35Speaker 4: in that. We have a slack channel at work called
- 51:37Speaker 4: Savings of the Week when we send our best deals.
- 51:39Speaker 4: Yesterday I sent in a Bevel coffee machine on sale
- 51:43Speaker 4: at costco.
- 51:44Speaker 2: Oh money weed, but I already have one. I know,
- 51:47Speaker 2: but I already have one.
- 51:48Speaker 3: Because collaborating, And I was like, hold on, I haven't
- 51:54Speaker 3: been operating in this space of at home coffee machines.
- 51:58Speaker 2: You're lucrative and the like, so like.
- 52:02Speaker 4: They're so easy to use, Like the average consumer can
- 52:05Speaker 4: use a Brevel coffee machine at home and they make
- 52:07Speaker 4: really good coffee.
- 52:08Speaker 2: But we're not talking like they just do.
- 52:10Speaker 3: Coffee machines don't do like toasters, blenders, like coffee literally
- 52:15Speaker 3: all releasing things. Yes, but they're also like not. I
- 52:18Speaker 3: wouldn't say they're like the most high end. They're also not.
- 52:21Speaker 2: They're a middle ground.
- 52:22Speaker 4: Yeah, they're like the thing that you can afford. It's
- 52:26Speaker 4: like a little bit bougie. You've splashed You're not getting
- 52:28Speaker 4: the km out coffee machine. You've splashed out for the Brevel.
- 52:30Speaker 3: But it's not like everybody that has a Bevel right
- 52:34Speaker 3: now and they are raving about it because you guys
- 52:36Speaker 3: are conn you can tamp the breve. I feel like
- 52:39Speaker 3: bst come over to my house. I can't mind self
- 52:42Speaker 3: tamps stop it anyway. So it's a well known Australian brand.
- 52:46Speaker 3: And when I started looking on TikTok and I started
- 52:49Speaker 3: looking online, it's starting to gain a little bit of
- 52:51Speaker 3: an international presence. Okay, so expansion expansion also cozy lives.
- 52:57Speaker 3: We're all looking at having a coffee machine.
- 53:00Speaker 4: You can justify the expense of a coffee machine because
- 53:02Speaker 4: it's cheaper than getting cofee out every year.
- 53:04Speaker 3: And I mean I made the news for being rude
- 53:07Speaker 3: about that guy's coffee. That was seven dollars old news. Yeah,
- 53:10Speaker 3: I was on the news and sorry, seven.
- 53:14Speaker 2: Dollars a cup. It is the craziest cup is wild.
- 53:16Speaker 2: We don't have much I have for coffee this morning.
- 53:18Speaker 3: So I feel like so many more of us are
- 53:20Speaker 3: looking at being out somber ristas and if I start
- 53:24Speaker 3: deep diving into it, reports show that Australians are increasingly
- 53:28Speaker 3: choosing to own high end Revel machines to save money
- 53:32Speaker 3: and upgrade there like at home games. So they're like,
- 53:34Speaker 3: we're moving from a pod machine to the Brevel because
- 53:37Speaker 3: it's a little.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Bit fancy, but you can justify the expense rather than
- 53:40Speaker 2: the seven dollar coffee every day exactly.
- 53:42Speaker 3: And in the first half of twenty twenty five, the
- 53:45Speaker 3: year ending December twenty twenty four, Rebel made and they're
- 53:49Speaker 3: probably real salty about this because it's just off, but
- 53:52Speaker 3: nine hundred and ninety seven point five million dollars in revenue,
- 53:56Speaker 3: So now right off a billion, like you would have
- 53:58Speaker 3: been a little bit if you were the singer, you
- 54:00Speaker 3: already been like, what the heck? Yeah, But that's up
- 54:02Speaker 3: ten percent from the year before.
- 54:04Speaker 2: It's really good because it's a very saturated market.
- 54:06Speaker 3: Their profit group by sixteen percent, breaching what is it,
- 54:11Speaker 3: ninety seven point five million dollars, and that's mostly what, No,
- 54:17Speaker 3: it's coffee bait, but mostly due to coffee machine sales,
- 54:21Speaker 3: so like it's not the toasters, it's not the blenders.
- 54:23Speaker 2: It's like when I think of I don't.
- 54:25Speaker 4: Just think of the coffee machine, like I think of
- 54:26Speaker 4: everything they do. But it's interesting to think that it's.
- 54:28Speaker 3: Been around for years, like my mum still has their
- 54:31Speaker 3: Brebels some beans exactly, and it also has so much
- 54:35Speaker 3: expansion potential in emerging markets, so like it's starting to
- 54:38Speaker 3: be looked at by China, South Korea interested Like sorry,
- 54:41Speaker 3: Australians are known for being coffee stops, so a coffee
- 54:46Speaker 3: machine from Australia is becoming quite.
- 54:48Speaker 2: A like a coffe machine in Melbourne, Welp and even.
- 54:51Speaker 3: The Middle East, like they already have a coffee culture,
- 54:53Speaker 3: but they're looking at us. So in South Korea, which
- 54:56Speaker 3: you absolutely love. South Korea, where they switched direct distribution
- 55:01Speaker 3: in twenty twenty two, their market shared jumped, which is
- 55:05Speaker 3: by the way, these might sound like small numbers, but
- 55:07Speaker 3: it's actually massive, from four percent to seven percent in
- 55:10Speaker 3: a country that is arguably not coffee motivated. And now
- 55:14Speaker 3: they're trying the same approach in China, So like they're
- 55:17Speaker 3: growing internationally, massive opportunity, and then ubs, which.
- 55:22Speaker 2: Is like a bank. They said that they expect.
- 55:24Speaker 3: Brevel's income to double, like more than double, from one
- 55:29Speaker 3: point seven billion dollars in the financial year of twenty
- 55:32Speaker 3: twenty five to four billion dollars next year.
- 55:35Speaker 2: Wow on my watch list.
- 55:37Speaker 3: Sorry all about coffee. I made the news for coffee gate,
- 55:41Speaker 3: and now I'm investing in coffee. I feek that man
- 55:44Speaker 3: told me to.
- 55:44Speaker 2: Get a real job. This is a real job, isn't it.
- 55:47Speaker 2: I sometimes think that I don't have a real job,
- 55:49Speaker 2: except I have a job.
- 55:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:51Speaker 2: I honestly don't believe about their jobs, and I'm like, oh,
- 55:54Speaker 2: I actually can't relate.
- 55:55Speaker 3: To their forecasted like margin of profit is only going
- 55:59Speaker 3: to increase because i'vebviously, the more they're developing, the more
- 56:02Speaker 3: they can save, and the more profit they're going to make.
- 56:05Speaker 3: While Brevel is already a profitable company, I would say
- 56:09Speaker 3: it trades at a very high valuation, so thirty five
- 56:13Speaker 3: times forward earnings, So investors they are paying a premium
- 56:18Speaker 3: for its growth potential.
- 56:19Speaker 2: Which is why I haven't purchased yet.
- 56:20Speaker 3: Slightly overvalued yeah, and I don't want to buy overvalued staff,
- 56:24Speaker 3: but also brevenue see growth potential, which is like and like,
- 56:27Speaker 3: I love this coffee machine, so you low key it's
- 56:29Speaker 3: like your costco. Yeah, I'm kind of like, sorry, I
- 56:32Speaker 3: see the hype. The share price I would say relatively accessible.
- 56:36Speaker 3: I mean it's thirty five dollars and fifty six cents
- 56:39Speaker 3: as of today, beautiful, and its return over the last
- 56:43Speaker 3: year has been fifteen point seventy five percent.
- 56:46Speaker 5: Wow.
- 56:47Speaker 2: So like, sorry, bad.
- 56:48Speaker 3: If you're going to buy a coffee machine and then
- 56:50Speaker 3: you get it on sale, invests the difference in the
- 56:53Speaker 3: share price, and then you're basically making money by making
- 56:55Speaker 3: coffee at home.
- 56:56Speaker 2: And your coffee machine is paying you. Yes, a win
- 56:59Speaker 2: is a win.
- 57:00Speaker 3: A win is a massive win. I want to move
- 57:02Speaker 3: on from this though, because like I could talk about
- 57:04Speaker 3: my coffee machine to the cows come home, and you
- 57:06Speaker 3: could definitely talk about Costco fore far for me anytime
- 57:09Speaker 3: I'll tell you I want to talk about like quickly
- 57:11Speaker 3: before we end, because I feel like we've been napping
- 57:13Speaker 3: for ages. Wild card chess, Yes, so what is something
- 57:17Speaker 3: that you reckon?
- 57:18Speaker 2: Is like a wild card?
- 57:20Speaker 4: Okay, so on my wild card list, and the reason
- 57:23Speaker 4: it's my wild card is it's not that profitable at
- 57:25Speaker 4: the moment, but it is something and I'm no, definitely not.
- 57:30Speaker 2: I'm a paradigmter. It's something that we all know and love.
- 57:34Speaker 2: But it's a doll beauty love.
- 57:36Speaker 4: They are on the AX with the ticket code ab
- 57:40Speaker 4: Y and they obviously.
- 57:42Speaker 3: Yours is more sexy than my wild card. I know
- 57:45Speaker 3: mine's like real row.
- 57:46Speaker 2: Okay, well I've gone sexy.
- 57:48Speaker 4: The key numbers that you should care about are the
- 57:51Speaker 4: f y twenty four revenue, which is one hundred and
- 57:54Speaker 4: ninety five point seven million, which is.
- 57:56Speaker 2: Do be crazy. And they have retail stores now.
- 57:58Speaker 4: Yeah, so that's where they expand into retail, which is
- 58:01Speaker 4: why it's on my wild card because it's currently not
- 58:03Speaker 4: that profitable. But I think they're like retail expansion is
- 58:06Speaker 4: really going to help them because in Australia, obviously we
- 58:08Speaker 4: have Sephora, but I feel like no one cares about
- 58:10Speaker 4: Sephora in Australia. We care about Mecca. Yeah, we love Mecca,
- 58:13Speaker 4: and I think Adoor Beauty dabbling in that space. They're
- 58:16Speaker 4: my favorite online really like retailer when it comes.
- 58:19Speaker 3: To really see, I'm still a Mecca cult member and
- 58:23Speaker 3: their stores are like not stores.
- 58:26Speaker 2: They're like full.
- 58:26Speaker 3: Experiences, and I just wonder how you would compete with that.
- 58:30Speaker 4: I loved Mecha, do still love Mecca. Still shop at
- 58:33Speaker 4: Mecca regularly, but I think with the Door Beauty they
- 58:35Speaker 4: offer something a little bit different.
- 58:36Speaker 3: And they also go on sale, which I kind of
- 58:39Speaker 3: I go hold on and like a lot of the
- 58:41Speaker 3: brands that used to and like this is probably me
- 58:43Speaker 3: diving into your wild card, but like a lot of
- 58:45Speaker 3: the brands that used to be exclusive to Mecca and now.
- 58:48Speaker 2: Not exclusive, and they are you're in the market. Yeah,
- 58:51Speaker 2: Like even just like you.
- 58:52Speaker 3: Look at Kerastas, right, that's at Mecca, and I buy
- 58:55Speaker 3: that shampoo, but it's often on sale for.
- 58:58Speaker 2: A door Adoor Beauty do really good.
- 59:00Speaker 4: Sounds like they'll do a three for two deal like
- 59:02Speaker 4: buy two free style too, so much free stuff, and
- 59:05Speaker 4: I feel like that that's an experience that like me
- 59:07Speaker 4: as a consumer, really enjoy that.
- 59:09Speaker 2: I'm gonna order to do want the travel sized shampoo.
- 59:11Speaker 5: I do love that.
- 59:12Speaker 4: And they do free goodie bags, all of that jazz,
- 59:15Speaker 4: and they have so many return customers and another thing,
- 59:19Speaker 4: they have such strong app usage. So twenty six percent
- 59:22Speaker 4: of their sales come from their own Adore Beauty app,
- 59:25Speaker 4: which I think is a crazy figure. And they have
- 59:28Speaker 4: a really good loyalty program, which I think is better
- 59:30Speaker 4: than the Mecca one. It's really early in Adoor Beauty's
- 59:33Speaker 4: profit journey, but I think that soon it'll be like
- 59:37Speaker 4: worth it. But I yeah, I haven't invested in it
- 59:39Speaker 4: yet because I think they're still.
- 59:40Speaker 2: Like, I want to watch what's their performance? Let me
- 59:44Speaker 2: whip it up for you.
- 59:45Speaker 4: I'll get you some live figures. Okay, in the maximum
- 59:50Speaker 4: time that it's been on the share market.
- 59:52Speaker 2: It's not looking good. Let me tell you. It's not
- 59:54Speaker 2: looking good. But you're like, but I believe in the
- 59:56Speaker 2: in this mention.
- 59:58Speaker 4: So since inception at six dollars ninety two, yeah, and
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: today it's at seventy six cents, which is not looking good.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: How it's an opportunity for me to buy in.
- 1:00:08Speaker 4: It's an opportunity for you to buy in. Year to date,
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: they're down fourteen point eight nine percent. But we are
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: in this industry. We're in the beauty space. We are
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: beauty consumers, and we see we are, we are. We
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: love the beauty industry. We see a Door Beauty as
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: a market leader.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: I see where they're going with we see where they're going.
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: I feel like a lot of people. Yeah, no, I
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: think that's good. I think that's exciting. So what do
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: you think is going to drive their performance back up?
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: Like you think just becoming in.
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: Experience, Like they're opening so many new stores, and I
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: think Mecca is almost pricing themselves out of the market.
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: So Flora, I think doesn't. I'm not putting them in
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: the equation as like your beauty space to go, like
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: where you're gonna go get a beauty broder. I think
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: you go to Sephora because they have certain products you need,
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: you go to Sephour overseas, but in Australia you go
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: to Mecca. And I think Mecca is slowly having price
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: increases that we might price them out of the market.
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: Whereas I think adoor beauty is a audible but still
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: that like luxury experience. So I think in a cost
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: of living crisis, a door beauty has more room to grow.
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I know that's exciting. So do you have a
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: wild card?
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: I do, But mine's boring. Mine's not like in the
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: beauty space or something that it was like a BEAUTIFULX see.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: I mean mine's just like I feel like a little
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: bit nerdy. And now I'm like, oh, I want to.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: Pitch of a nerd. I love a nerd pitch me.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: And I'm watching this one because I'm like not one
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: to run out and invest immediately, but I find it
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: really interesting because I think it's a I don't know,
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: a good example of like innovation and tech coming together.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: And like I'm here for the gossips, so we love
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: the gossip. Yeah, So like this is for me an
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: interesting one. It's called brain Chip. So it's on the
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: ASEX brin.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Have you heard of this? I have heard of this. Okay, cool,
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: so it's not as wild as I thought it could be.
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: But for those of you who maybe haven't heard of it,
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: brain Chip is a Aussie tech company and they are
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: building brain inspired AI chips called a Kida and it's
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: designed to essentially help smart devices then think for themselves
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: without the need for the.
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: Cloud, so at the moment self sufficient. Yeah. Yeah, and
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: so it's getting innovation. Well that's why I picked it.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: You're very smart.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: They've got on rainship you to be kind of thinking.
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: These chips are going to be faster, they're going to
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: be more energy efficient. There's like giving a friendly Yeah.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: You know how we chat GBT. We're talking about it
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: every time you see exactly, So a.
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: Lot of people are kind of looking at this, going, oh,
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: this might be the way forward because they're kind of
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: self sufficient. The stock price, I would say, exploded during
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: the AI hype that happened like way back in what
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: twenty twenty two, like late twenty twenty two, twenty twenty three,
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: and it went from costing twenty cents for share to
- 1:02:45Speaker 3: two dollars forty But yeah.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: Drop back down. Yeah, I'm seeing so like, can you
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: not google it while I'm just google it?
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: I know, because like it makes me look bad. I'm
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: trying to like tell a story.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: In five years, it's looking better. That's why it's a
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: wild card. Okay, soon you walk up my so DOWND
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: eighty nine percent, so I can't. Okay, this is why
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: we haven't purchased. But we're so in next year.
- 1:03:06Speaker 4: We're going to come back this time next year, we're
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: going to check how they're going, and hopefully we are.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: We oracles. Oracles call me Warren can Warren.
- 1:03:15Speaker 3: But I think the tech sounds really futuristic. But the
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: problem with their company is that they're just burning so
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: much cash.
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: You have to in like a software in tech space,
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: you have to burn cash to make cash. They're investing
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: in the company, right, Ye, I see it.
- 1:03:30Speaker 3: I see the kids like classic promising tech and that's why.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: It's either going to it's going to pay off or
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: it's not.
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's twenty two when everyone was like, oh
- 1:03:38Speaker 3: my god, this is the next big thing.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: They all brought in because of hype.
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: They didn't buy in because they looked at the on
- 1:03:43Speaker 3: your reports and then they realized that, oh, this share
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: doesn't pay dividends, Oh this share is actually a money pit?
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: And they didn't understand it enough, so it dropped back
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: down as people sold off. But I think the challenge
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: for them now is, Okay, you've put a lot of
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: money into this that clearly is kind to payoff. Yeah,
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: Like can you now make money from this? Like can
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: you sell it? So I guess today the stock price
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: is still like circling about twenty cents. What was it
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: when you looked it up? Well, I looked at the
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: year today if I did these notes yesterday, Yeah, so the.
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: Share price today is at zero point. That's twenty cents. Yeah,
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: and it's down year today fifty five percent, but you
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: know what, we believe in her still and in five
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: years it's up eleven percent. So it's up point Yeah,
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: it's up two cents feive years. It's you know, you're
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: making money.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: The Queen is where she started. She started at twenty cents,
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: she's back at twenty cents. And I think it's a
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: good reminder for all of us if we are planning
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: on investing in emerging tech, Like it's not just betting
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: on innovation. You're betting on like a company and their
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: ability to have a CEO who can manage cash flow.
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: I have a CEO who can make decisions around marketing
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: and branding and getting more than just innovation.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: There's so much more that goes into business.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: Yeah, like you're betting like I don't know, timing and execution, because.
- 1:05:02Speaker 4: These they could become the market leader, like right now
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: like Chat, GBT, open Ai, that's the market leader. But
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: if someone innovates them, they then become, you know, the
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: market leader. And that's what they're trying to do. So
- 1:05:13Speaker 4: it's like okay, right now they might be burning through cash,
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: but if you bought it, right now and then suddenly
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: tomorrow they say.
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: Wow, we've done it. It's all working. It costs x
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: amount less. It's doing this. The stock price could be
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: up like seven thousand percent tomorrow, but we don't know.
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: Yeah, and we don't know what we don't know. But
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: I think it's like, guys, you have some pretty cool ideas.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: I'm watching and I'm like sitting back going can you
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: make this make money?
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: Like?
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: Can you turn your cool ideas into revenues giving.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: Penny stock in the best way We're getting to watch
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: on it, Maybe that they can do it.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: Just because you've got a cool idea doesn't mean you
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: can make nice.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: If you've got to be like that's the hugest. Yeah,
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: people can start with ideas every day. And if you
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: listen to how should I invest in AI?
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: Episode, I think you'll remember when we said we're at
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: the show don't tell moment for a lot of these
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: like AI companies, And that's kind of where brain Chip
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: is at at the moment.
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: So like they're like just trying their best. Okay, and
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: I'm watching six the August next year, we'll have to check.
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: In, but like, I haven't invested in this. In fact,
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: I like it's going to take a fair bit. Maybe
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: we'll put five dollars in not even.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: Going to do that.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: I'm like, well, if I've got five bucks to invest,
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: is it going to be in brain Chep.
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: Probably not.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: It's probably going to be in Adoor Beauty because you
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: sold it so well. But no, I would just dump
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: it into it, That's right. Yeah, So there's a few
- 1:06:31Speaker 3: things I'd want to see from brain Chep if I
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: was to invest, So like, I'd want to see consistent
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: revenue growth so you don't have to like outperform what
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: you've spent, but like, I just want to see that growth.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: Yeah, You're going to wait a couple more earnings reports
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: to see whether that aligns to your values.
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: Also, like great technology like a Kida, a Kaida or whatever.
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: I'm sorry, which which products is it in yet? Like
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: I want to see it in some big names, Like
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: I want to see it feeling used. I want to
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: see them collaborating with big companies. I want like, you know,
- 1:07:02Speaker 3: if Amazon picked it up and said, oh, we've put
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: this in our Echo.
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: Perfect, do you know what I mean, I'd be like,
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: oh shit, then's then those are the things available. If
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: that was in an echo tomorrow, then the stock price
- 1:07:12Speaker 4: will go up exactly.
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: You don't know until exactly.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: And like at the moment, if you look at that
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: and your report, they're like burning through cash more than
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: what they're making. And I would like to not just
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: see them have revenue growth, but like where's your plan
- 1:07:27Speaker 3: for a pust to profitability?
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: Like at what point where's your yellow brick road?
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: Yeah, and like they might say, oh, it's still like
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: seven years off, but at the seven year point, like
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: we know because like we've been doing this and we're
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: proving this as well, it's going yeah, And then I
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: guess execution milestones they haven't really like they're all like
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: we've got cool.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: Ideas and we're doing cool things.
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: And like I think that's where that that jumped to
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: two dollars forty happened because people are like, oh, that
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: sounds sick, but like, are you hitting your delivery targets?
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: Can you please start reporting on those? Are you actually
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: getting this hardware that you're building and innovating on how
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: many are you sending out? If so, were like, it
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: doesn't have to be in something that I know of,
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: but like it could be a coffee machine. But people
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: buying this shit because I can't see people buying this
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: MoU also, and I also want to see they're talking
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: about a lot of tools that they're going to release,
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: but they haven't released, so like.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: It's all talk, no walk. Yeah, so I guess I
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: watch just.
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: For reaching them, and that's why they're a bit of
- 1:08:21Speaker 3: a wild card.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: But we will just these, I will track them.
- 1:08:24Speaker 4: I'll pop them in all in a spreadsheet today with
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: the price, and then in a year's time we'll come back.
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: And see how they've did for that, because like I'll
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: be like, yeah, a brain ship and a coffee machine, like.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: And I've gone from will see for me costco on
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: indoor beauty. Honestly, they're way more from really sexy. All right.
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: I feel like we've been yapping for ages.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: Thank you so much for coming back on the show
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: letting me, I guess, peek inside that very well researched
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: brain of yours. I feel like you and I are
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: on the same page. This is why we're always like
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: have you seen Rebel?
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: Have you seen this? We're in a wed parallel of crazy,
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: like you know.
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: When people so like my best friend Harriet and I
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: like we send each other TikTok videos of ducks and food,
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: and then there's you and I sending each other tiktoks
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: on na video.
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: Just random things. Okay, it's an interesting life and the guard.
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: If anyone works to the garden and wants to send
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: us on the gun.
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: Please, Honestly, I was very confused. You didn't pick a
- 1:09:14Speaker 3: train company.
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: I would pick a.
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: Train company, but it's not my journey at the moment,
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: but you will journey on a train. I would love
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: to journey on a train.
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: All right, Well, guys, don't worry. We are absolutely not
