- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Let's dive in.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to Praise, Prayer, and Protein.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: This week's episode is a little bit different because Thanksgiving is coming up here in Canada.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: And I thought instead of just sitting here and talking to you all by myself for the whole episode, I'm bringing in some special guests, my boys.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: We have Jedediah.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Hello.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: We have Isaiah.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Hi.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: And we have Malachi.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Hello! We're doing a little mic'd up with mom Thanksgiving edition.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna ask them some Thanksgiving would you rather find out what they actually think about our family traditions.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: But I also want to talk a little bit about gratitude, not just uh the big obvious thing, not just the big obvious things we are thankful for.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: I want to talk about the really ordinary things in our life that bring us joy right now.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Because I think sometimes when someone asks, what are you thankful for?
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: we immediately go to family, health, Jesus.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: And yes, those are all obvious and those are very huge.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: But what about the tiny little things?
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: The things that um the things you keep noticing on your drive to work, the little part of your morning you look forward to, something you're doing just for fun, a Bible verse you keep coming back to.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: So that's what we are going to talk about today.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Thanksgiving with the Petersons.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Let's see how it goes.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, boys, we are starting with some important questions.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Are you ready?
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: This is a fun game of would you rather?
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: So we'll always go you, you, and then you.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: So then we can move quickly with the answers, okay?
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: So would you rather have Thanksgiving dinner with no mashed potatoes or no gravy?
- 2:08SPEAKER_02: No gravy.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: No gravy.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: No mashed potatoes.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: You even love mashed potatoes.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: I would say no mashed potatoes too.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: You can't get rid of the gravy for me.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Um, would you rather eat turkey for breakfast every day of the week or pumpkin pie for supper every day for a week?
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: Turkey for breakfast.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: Pumpkin pie.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: Pumpkin pie for supper?
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Turkey.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: You wouldn't eat turkey for breakfast?
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Alright, would you rather eat Thanksgiving side dishes or only eat the turkey?
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Thanksgiving side dishes.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like stuffing.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Side dishes.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: What about you?
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Side dishes or the turkey?
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Would you rather have Thanksgiving dinner with no dessert?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: No.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Or Thanksgiving dinner with no rolls.
- 3:10SPEAKER_02: What our rolls.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: Okay, that doesn't, we don't really have rolls.
- 3:14SPEAKER_02: I think no rolls.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: Uncle Josh brings rolls.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: No rolls.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: No rolls.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: No rolls.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: That was a funny one.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Alright, would you rather pumpkin pie or apple pie?
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: Apple pie.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Pumpkin pie.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Apple pie.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Apple pie.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: And do you is it ice cream or whipped cream on your pie?
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: Whipped cream.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: Whipped cream on an apple pie?
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: Um, since I chose pumpkin, I think I'd have to go with whipped cream.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Ice cream or whipped cream?
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Ice cream.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Ice cream, yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, here's the big one.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Hot turkey sandwiches or full turkey dinner?
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Hot turkey sandwiches.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: All day.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Full turkey.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Full turkey dinner.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Hot sandwiches.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Hot sandwiches.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Would you rather be responsible for cooking the turkey or doing all the dishes after?
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: Cooking the turkey.
- 4:13SPEAKER_02: Cooking the turkey.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: Cooking the turkey.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Cooking the turkey.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Would you rather harvest all the potatoes for Thanksgiving or catch the turkey?
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: I'd much rather catch the turkey.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: I would chase a turkey around the field.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: Catch the turkey?
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: We already harvest all the potatoes, so um okay.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: A few more.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Would you rather skip the stuffing forever or script?
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Would you rather skip the stuffing forever or skip the cranberry sauce?
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Skip the stuffing.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: Just because I strongly dislike stuffing, I'd skip the stuffing.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Skip the stuffing or the cranberry sauce?
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: Skip the stuffing.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: Stuffing.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, that was really fun to do.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: The would you rathers?
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Uh, we're gonna have a really yummy Thanksgiving dinner, and I'm pretty sure all your favorite things are gonna be there that you get to pick and choose from.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Now I want to know what you guys actually remember about Thanksgiving in our house.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: It's not always traditional like Christmas is.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Okay, what is the first thing you think of when you think about Thanksgiving weekend?
- 5:32SPEAKER_02: Hot turkey sandwiches.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: All of our family at the building playing upstairs like the kids.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: Turkey.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: You think about turkey?
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: And what's your favorite food that we have at Thanksgiving?
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Uh turkey sandwiches.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Jetty.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Pumpkin pie.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: You like the pumpkin pie.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Do you like the mini pumpkin pies we make or like a big pumpkin pie?
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Or the co- I think dad brought Costco pumpkin pies last year, didn't he?
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: All of the above.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: You like pumpkin pie?
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: The dessert.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: You like the dessert table.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: So when I think about Thanksgiving, I'm gonna go back to that one.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: We actually don't have Thanksgiving at our house, usually, right?
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: Where do we have our Thanksgiving?
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: The building.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: The building.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: And we always have it with our extended family.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and usually Thanksgiving is a time that we will invite other families to join us.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Maybe families that have just moved here recently to the country and don't have any families.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: We've had some of those families with us for a few times.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Or maybe some of our friends who have no family here as well.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: We've we always try to have some other families join us because it is just a fun time.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: I think about how crispy it is outside.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Like the air is kind of chilly.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: It's not like the summer time events we have here at Day Spring where we can eat under the wash house, but it's more like everyone's in the building.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Everyone usually has what?
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: What is everyone usually wearing?
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: A sweater.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: A sweater, sweater, weta, or like plaid.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: You know, yeah.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: And each one of our families brings a turkey.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: So we have uh quite a few turkeys that usually come, and then um, and then what do we do?
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Like, how do we get the vegetables?
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: The garden?
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and so what do we dig up in the garden?
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: Potatoes, so all the yeah, the potatoes and the carrots that we grow.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: Corn.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: Some corn.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Peas.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the peas.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: But also decorations, right?
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Because Uncle Jerry and gourds.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they grow all kinds of pumpkins and gourds, and so we'll decorate the building.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: And we have some people in our family who are really great at decorating, right?
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: So, what does the building usually look like?
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Awesomeness.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Because why?
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: What do they have in there?
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: They have like all these like pumpkins and like bushy things and things that hang from the ceiling.
- 7:57SPEAKER_02: And they have like crayons on the table, and like you can like brand on the table with the crayons.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: And they put the sign outside always that has like the pumpkins on it outside the building door.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Alright, what is your favorite?
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: We already know Isaiah's favorite Thanksgiving dessert is pumpkin pie.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: And you're allowed to eat that for breakfast after Thanksgiving.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: We will allow you.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Uh, Jenny, what's your favorite Thanksgiving dessert?
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: What do you like to go for on the table?
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: The apple pie.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Sometimes there's cake there.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Apple turnovers.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, that's yummy.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: Do you have a favorite dessert?
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Apple pie.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: You like apple pie too?
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Do you guys have a favorite Thanksgiving memory?
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: Like if you think back to last year, what we did for Thanksgiving.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't remember much, but I do remember maybe like last year or two years ago, we picked the apples and then we smushed them all and made the apple cider, and then I remember having that for Thanksgiving.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: That was at the cottage because we went we had three Thanksgiving meals last year, and one was at the cottage, and we did make fresh apple juice with gr my dad, right?
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Okay, Jetty, your turn.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Do you have a favorite Thanksgiving memory?
- 9:09SPEAKER_02: I think like we like throw apples and then like smash them with the baseball bats.
- 9:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, play applesauce.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: So we have a lot of trees on our property that have apples and we collect them and play a little game of applesauce.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: If you guys were in charge of the Thanksgiving menu, what are you serving, Chef Jetty?
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Poutine.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, like a turkey dinner poutine?
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: Fries, gravy, gravy, turkey, and like cheese and stuff.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: With cranberry sauce on the top of that poutine.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: I think I'd just do like a really classic turkey dinner.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: What's a Thanksgiving tradition that you hope we always keep doing?
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: I know for the older kids I heard that they love eating all together at the building.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Like even though we're getting older and we have things going on, it was like, well, we have to eat at the building with whoever's around.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: It's just is that is Thanksgiving.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love like just being upstairs with all the kids, just running around and having fun and like eating and all together.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: I think it's something I would want to keep doing every year.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: Same.
- 10:18SPEAKER_02: It's just something I want to do, like going back to the building and just like doing Thanksgiving there, like hanging out and stuff.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: I like the new tradition too of going to the cottage.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: If you were telling an alien Thanksgiving in three words, what would you say?
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: Family fun eating with the cousins.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Eating with the cousins is not one word.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: Okay, Jen, what would you turkey?
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: Giving thanks and family.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Giving thanks, okay.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Thankfulness.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: What are your three words?
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: Family.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Thankfulness.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: And I don't know.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Like cozy.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: I would say cozy too.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: I was thinking, what's a word to describe how I feel about Thanksgiving?
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: It is a cosier.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, fall is like kind of a cosier feeling.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Even though it's cold outside, you just You feel cozy.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Like I love when we're all in the building.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Like for those of you who are listening and don't know, we we run a ministry called Day Spring Ministry, and it has like a full kitchen and a full hall that we eat in.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: And so when our families get together, because we are so big, we're probably in between 30 and 50 people for Thanksgiving.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: This is no small Thanksgiving dinner.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: Um it is very cozy because you know we have our the cousins and then they're, you know, married and their kids and the grandkids and the in-laws, and it's just a very cozy time.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: We have a huge table worth of food.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Um I'm sure you're gonna see it all on Instagram, so make sure to follow along because you'll see it all Sunday.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, we sing together before we eat.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Uh, it just is a really kind of cosier time, isn't it?
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a nice meal.
- 12:11SPEAKER_00: And we don't do like a Christmas dinner together.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: Like we don't this so this is like our only real um dinner dinner like this that we do.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: Usually we do a brunch, but this is the only like kind of supper meal we still have done.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: And I love that we pick, we go harvest the potatoes, harvest the carrots, wash, peel.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: You know, everyone's in there working together, chatting.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because Christmas is just at our house, just with your parents.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for Christmas dinner.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Then we do a big family brunch over there.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: But we don't really invite other people in, it's like more of just our family.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: But Thanksgiving we just tend to invite people into that.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: Then when it's um Thanksgiving, I love this going outside with the cousins and making a leaf pile and jumping in it.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: I would agree.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: The leaf pile jumping in is a good idea.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Um, I kind of prepped you a little bit before we started to say I wanted you guys to think about this, but I want everyone to give me five things that you're grateful for right now.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: And here's the rules, okay?
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: You can't just say family, okay?
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: You have to think about your life right now: school, friends, food, something fun you're doing, something you're learning, something that happened this week, something really small.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: Anything.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: What are five things you are so grateful for this season?
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: Okay, Jetty, do you want to start?
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: What are your top five things that you are thankful for right now?
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: So, like education, so we like get to like learn and stuff.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: So you're actually thankful that you get to go to school.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Wow, that's impressive.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: And that you use the words education.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: You are so smart, okay?
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: You're thankful for school.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: Church.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: Church.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's that's good.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: What are you thankful about church for?
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: The people there and like how we just get to like worship there and stuff.
- 14:07SPEAKER_02: The traditions we have, friends, yeah.
- 14:10SPEAKER_00: You're friends.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: It's fun to have friends, isn't it?
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 14:15SPEAKER_00: And one more.
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: Like the trees and like how like beautiful like the leaves are.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: Okay, Isaiah.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: Your five things.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm thankful for friendships.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: You've got some great friends, eh, at church.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: And at school.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: And at school, yeah.
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: And I'm thankful for a fireplace in our house.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: Ooh, that makes fall even more cozy, doesn't it?
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: I'm thankful for on um hot nights when it's hard to fall asleep.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: I'm thankful that you can just flip your pillow over and there's a cold side under.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: I think the cold side of your pillow.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: That's amazing.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: Three.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: The small things that count.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: That is the small things that count.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: You're right.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: I should try flipping my pillow more in the night.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Well, it's just it's a really hot night.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: Especially during Christmas.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: Oh, when this does when the wood stuff's going.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: But also sometimes thankful that the trees lose their leaves every year so that in the spring you get to see them come back every year and how beautiful that is.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: So I'm thankful that you know we get to have that.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: And since now this is the season where it's, you know, happening.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: And I'm thankful for our chickens.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: Alright, Malk.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: Do you have five things you're thankful for?
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: School, um, church, that I'm learning French, um, that we get to have some cousins, and that we get to have family, and um and that we get to watch movies in our house.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: Eat the mood, and we get to watch movies in the fall, because like in summer it's really hot and we have to go outside and in the fall it's kind of not out.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a more cozy time, so we watch more movies.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Those are really great.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: You guys did a great job.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: And I thought if I was making you guys do it, I would have to do it too.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: So here are five things I'm grateful for right now.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: My quiet mornings.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: It is so dark in the morning when I get out, but I grab my devotional books, my Bible, a hot coffee, and I just love taking those 40 minutes to myself.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: Uh, the September morning sky.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: This sounds so random, but lately waking up in the morning and it being so pitch dark and then watching the sunrise as we're getting ready to go on the bus is absolutely stunning.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: The sky is pink and looks like cotton candy, and we find ourselves stopping, opening the door, and saying, Look how beautiful that sky is.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: The leaves, Jedediah, I do agree with you.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: The colors right now are absolutely stunning.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: And I don't, I don't know what Thanksgiving would be without those type Canadian Thanksgiving would be without the beautiful scenery of what the fall brings.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: And we just had family photos done this weekend with the fall leaves.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: I just love them.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: I'm also a side note, very thankful that my teenagers and all my kids had family photos done for me.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: So thank you for that.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: Uh, number four is pickleball.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: Uh I love that I've been playing with some new ladies uh a couple days a week.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: And I love when we pack into the car and head to our local park also to go play pickleball.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: And number five for me is uh studying Psalm 23 at church.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Um, it has been very refreshing going through Psalm 23 together as a church and taking our time, literally going word by word, verse by verse.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: Uh, and every week it's so amazing how God shows up and speaks to me exactly what I need to hear going through that psalm.
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: So I am thankful for the pastors that are leading us in that.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: Would you agree, uh, Isaiah?
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: Because you you get to be in the sermons too.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's really good.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: To really dive in deep.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I like it.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: So gratitude does not have to be huge.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: That's really what I want to take away from this episode.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: It doesn't always have to be some huge, profound thing.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's just hot coffee, a pink sky, a beautiful tree, pickleball, school, friends, church.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: Sometimes it's scripture you've studied a thousand times, but it just sparks something new in a new way.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: A pillow.
- 18:57SPEAKER_00: Uh the cold side of your pillow.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: I think when we start paying attention to those little things, we realize just how much goodness is all around us.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: And I want my kids to learn that too.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: I don't want gratitude to just be something we talk about once a year because it's Thanksgiving.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: I want them to learn to notice what is good right now.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Where has God been faithful?
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: What's making me smile?
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: What's bringing me joy?
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Who are we thankful for?
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: What ordinary things would we be missing out if it wasn't here tomorrow?
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, that is it for our praise, prayer, and protein.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: So, boys, uh, I've been ending every episode like this.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: So I have a praise.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: My praise for this week is just those little things.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: Our family, the food we get to have around our table, and the amazing Thanksgiving memories we have made at Day Spring.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: Do you have a praise, Jetty?
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: You can tell me?
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: A praise for this week?
- 19:52SPEAKER_00: Like like the building and stuff, like and like um the building itself that we get to have a place that can host us all a thousand percent.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Um, family and friends, like people, because what would Thanksgiving be if you didn't have if you were like alone, like you'd probably be totally um grateful when you finally get to have all your family.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: What's your praise this week?
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: That we get to have a family and mom and dad, and that we get to just hang out with the cousins and have a big lake that we with on and Yeah.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: Another praise is that we get to eat pumpkin pie for breakfast.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Okay, and my prayer for this uh Thanksgiving is that we would be people who notice that gratitude wouldn't just be something we talk about around Thanksgiving, that God would help me notice his goodness in the ordinary parts of my day and also in my kids' day.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: What is your prayer for the week?
- 20:50SPEAKER_00: Do you have a prayer for the week?
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: My prayer is that Auntie Carol brings her yummy, yummy dessert.
- 20:57SPEAKER_02: That no one forces us to eat stuffing.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: It's not a funny prayer.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: Um, I'll pray for a really good time and that we'll have memories we can remember forever.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: What are you praying for this week?
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Um, that we have new memories, and that we get to have cousins.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's great.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: Okay, and the protein part of this week is I feel like the answer has to be turkey.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Turkey is the protein.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: Uh and it's pumpkin pie.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: That's not protein.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: I'm sure there's protein in pumpkin pie.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: It's apple pie.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: The protein this week is turkey and all the leftover things we can make with the turkey.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: We can do turkey dinner poutine, hot turkey sandwiches, turkey soup, uh, all things turkey for protein this week.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: And pumpkin pie.
- 21:55SPEAKER_01: Besides apple pie, maybe all the veggies from our garden that we worked hard on this summer.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: Apple pie.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: This Thanksgiving.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: Okay, friends.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: Well, that is our Thanksgiving episode.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much, Jetty.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Zay.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Zaya.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Jup Ju.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: And Malaguy.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: For being mic'd up with mom and coming in and talking about all your favorite things.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: I hope this episode encourages you to do something really simple with your own family this Thanksgiving.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Ask everybody what are five things you are grateful for right now?
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: Not the five answers you think you're supposed to give, but five things from this actual season of your life.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: Maybe even start writing them down.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: Start making a gratitude list this Thanksgiving.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: Because someday we're gonna look back and realize that the little things you almost overlooked were actually some of the sweetest parts of the season.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: From our family, from our family to yours.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: I hope your table is full, your food is delicious, and your people stick around way too long after supper, and you get a minute somewhere in all of it to look around and think, thank you, Lord.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: I'll talk to you next week on Praise, Prayer, and Protein.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: Protein that carry me through.
