- 0:00Speaker 1: Come on air and I have radio.
- 0:03Speaker 2: She's on The Money Radio Show.
- 0:07Speaker 3: With Victoria Divine starts now, Hello and welcome to that.
- 0:11Speaker 3: She's on the Money Radio Show podcast, the podcast Millennials
- 0:15Speaker 3: who want Financial Freedom?
- 0:16Speaker 2: I love that for us. You did that perfectly this week.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Well done, my friend.
- 0:20Speaker 4: Maybe trad they said if we said if you screwed
- 0:23Speaker 4: it up, it was my job.
- 0:24Speaker 5: But I guess you keep it.
- 0:25Speaker 6: That's how I roll po po. Hey, Hey, guess what
- 0:28Speaker 6: this week?
- 0:28Speaker 5: Guys? Just what we're talking about?
- 0:29Speaker 2: What are we talking to?
- 0:30Speaker 5: Toria's hen's nae?
- 0:33Speaker 6: Because oh we are?
- 0:34Speaker 2: Indeed.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Do you know the best thing about this?
- 0:36Speaker 5: Right?
- 0:36Speaker 3: I love the podcast intro because in the radio show
- 0:39Speaker 3: we got to be all nice and fancy and above board,
- 0:42Speaker 3: but we actually didn't get into any details.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Victoria, So yeah, tell us the dirty stull what happened, mate,
- 0:48Speaker 1: just for our podcast community.
- 0:49Speaker 7: Look, it wasn't as spicy as you guys think it was. Sure, No, no,
- 0:53Speaker 7: no really because I said to my girlfriends like, if
- 0:55Speaker 7: you get a stripper, I will literally go and sit
- 0:57Speaker 7: in my car and cry, absolutely not happening.
- 0:59Speaker 2: I would be so uncomfortable with that.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Can I just say though? And this isn't me trying
- 1:04Speaker 3: to win any brownie points?
- 1:05Speaker 1: Whatever?
- 1:06Speaker 3: The older I get like strippers. No, I just think
- 1:09Speaker 3: to myself, I've been to.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Lots of Hen's parties with them. I've got no problem
- 1:12Speaker 2: with them.
- 1:13Speaker 7: But the idea of me being the center of attention
- 1:16Speaker 7: in that situation, it's just not me.
- 1:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I just don't know, like this is going to
- 1:19Speaker 3: sounds like it's going down like a serious path here.
- 1:22Speaker 3: But if I'm getting married, my wife is the most
- 1:25Speaker 3: beautiful woman in the world, Like, why would I want
- 1:28Speaker 3: to look at somebody else?
- 1:29Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 1:30Speaker 2: That's really cute. That's I wish you go to Steven
- 1:33Speaker 2: let him know.
- 1:34Speaker 3: All right, Steve, let's go have a cheeky whiskey in
- 1:36Speaker 3: a chat and we'll go to some strippers just to
- 1:38Speaker 3: show you.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Why they're bad.
- 1:39Speaker 3: No, I'm joking, No, tell us somebody.
- 1:42Speaker 7: So we went down the Mornington Peninsula. We had the
- 1:46Speaker 7: Hens party Imports here, which is where we fancy. We
- 1:48Speaker 7: didn't own the property. I just there be and beat it.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Really nice venue.
- 1:52Speaker 7: It was tennis themed, so it was wimbled in the
- 1:54Speaker 7: themed so everyone wore their tennis whites.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Can I just stop you, right, there because I love
- 1:59Speaker 3: you so much, Victoria Devine. You're one of my favorite
- 2:02Speaker 3: people in this world. But then you broke my heart.
- 2:05Speaker 3: How because you're wearing white crocs.
- 2:07Speaker 7: Mate, Oh my gosh, they are the best things that's
- 2:10Speaker 7: ever happened to me.
- 2:12Speaker 6: How elite.
- 2:14Speaker 2: I will not be canceled.
- 2:16Speaker 7: Crocs are Look, tell me they're not the most practical
- 2:19Speaker 7: shoe in the world.
- 2:19Speaker 2: You can slip them on.
- 2:20Speaker 7: You can go to the cafe sports mode activated, you
- 2:23Speaker 7: flip the thing back, pop your shoeing. You could run
- 2:25Speaker 7: a marathon in a pair of crocs. I will not
- 2:27Speaker 7: hear you trying to cancel them again.
- 2:29Speaker 3: You can do all of those amazing things. But then
- 2:31Speaker 3: you turn into an old person that nobody likes.
- 2:34Speaker 7: Okay, well I don't particularly care because I'm not here
- 2:37Speaker 7: to people, please, I'm here for comfort. And do you
- 2:39Speaker 7: know those giblet things got some gym so they're like
- 2:43Speaker 7: the decorations for your cross.
- 2:45Speaker 2: And I got a little tennis ball.
- 2:46Speaker 4: To put on. Its embarrassing, like a chicken called a gibble.
- 2:54Speaker 4: It's what my auntie Norma has on underneath.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Yeah, let's move on, let's move.
- 3:00Speaker 4: I know you get married, but don't let go just yet,
- 3:03Speaker 4: Victoria Devine, you've got book covers to be on Giblitz.
- 3:05Speaker 7: No, I never want to be on my book cover.
- 3:07Speaker 7: I was really specific about that. When we were doing
- 3:09Speaker 7: like the design, I was like, do not put me on.
- 3:11Speaker 2: The cover of my book.
- 3:12Speaker 7: That is not me at all, which is why our
- 3:14Speaker 7: book is peachy and our new one.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Is the very beautiful pistachio green.
- 3:20Speaker 7: Speaking of the book though, before I let you guys
- 3:22Speaker 7: get into the actual radio show, we've got a book
- 3:24Speaker 7: event coming up. We have an entire book tour coming up.
- 3:27Speaker 7: Has been Yeah, it's being announced now, guys.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I haven't told anybody.
- 3:33Speaker 5: We need some music.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Come September.
- 3:38Speaker 7: I am touring Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. We have epic
- 3:42Speaker 7: events coming, epic goodie bags, epic people cough. You guys
- 3:46Speaker 7: are going to be there. You're going to do some
- 3:48Speaker 7: live pod recordings. Our live podcast recording went so well.
- 3:52Speaker 7: But we're touring with Fame, guys. I'm so excited. Same
- 3:56Speaker 7: people who Britten Laura from Life touring with Have I
- 3:59Speaker 7: made it?
- 4:00Speaker 6: What I thought?
- 4:00Speaker 1: You said? With Fame, like.
- 4:02Speaker 7: Shane s an E, they're the guys that throw good
- 4:04Speaker 7: at it, they said, are doing.
- 4:07Speaker 5: The same thing with the same group.
- 4:08Speaker 7: Great, Yeah they're epic. So now I'm as cool as Britain.
- 4:11Speaker 7: Laura maybe maybe, maybe.
- 4:14Speaker 4: Laura are a ver I've been in Barley with those girls.
- 4:17Speaker 4: They drink a margarita like no one else. Actually, actually,
- 4:22Speaker 4: just Bruce dry your high Actually, so all Allura was
- 4:24Speaker 4: like on the waters and what about the Barley eyes It.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Was absolutely not. Yeah, they're much cooler than me.
- 4:29Speaker 6: I don't wear crocs, wear crocs, not.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Going to fit in, even want to fit in.

- 4:44Speaker 7: with bells on.
- 4:45Speaker 3: But if you want to check out some amazing money tips,
- 4:48Speaker 3: not only how you can distribute and say from your
- 4:52Speaker 3: hens or bucks if you're about to plan one, if
- 4:54Speaker 3: you are also looking at IVF a little cheeky tip
- 4:57Speaker 3: you might not know about that you can pay it
- 4:59Speaker 3: with and we threw it out there to ow She's
- 5:02Speaker 3: on the Money Radio community for the show to give
- 5:04Speaker 3: us some super Saber Saturday staky tips and they bloody delivered, Mitch,
- 5:09Speaker 3: you did.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Not yea, yours was a terrible tip.
- 5:12Speaker 6: Can we don't shame me on my show?
- 5:14Speaker 5: Thank you very much.
- 5:15Speaker 7: We listened to it because we wanted to be kind,
- 5:18Speaker 7: we wanted to include you, but I mean it was
- 5:21Speaker 7: kind of.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Trash group decision. Never let me.
- 5:23Speaker 6: I'm going I'm going to get a coffee, all right,
- 5:25Speaker 6: I love you.
- 5:26Speaker 3: She's on the Money radio show starts right now. Guess what,
- 5:30Speaker 3: Cyndi Lauper was right when she said.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Girls just want to have fun.
- 5:42Speaker 4: They it's all they want. It's all I want as well.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Cindy opposition Mitch as well because she.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Got it wrong. No one wants fun. They all want funds.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Oh my god, hold on, sorry, I know we're going
- 5:52Speaker 4: to talk about your hands part of Victoria.
- 5:53Speaker 5: There's a song parody in that for you. Girls just
- 5:55Speaker 5: want to have funds.
- 5:56Speaker 6: Make that now, girls just want yes?
- 6:01Speaker 1: All right?
- 6:01Speaker 3: Your Hen's weekend last week, Victoria. We know all the
- 6:04Speaker 3: juicy gossip been here, you told us off here before.
- 6:07Speaker 3: But for everyone listening, what happened.
- 6:08Speaker 7: Look, we had a pretty good weekend, went down the
- 6:11Speaker 7: coast with a bunch of my closest to girlfriends. We
- 6:14Speaker 7: actually hired a house, so I ended up paying for
- 6:17Speaker 7: that one.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Not a bad thing.
- 6:19Speaker 7: I just really wanted to contribute to my own hens
- 6:22Speaker 7: because I knew that these things can blow out of
- 6:24Speaker 7: proportion pretty quickly. So I had to chat with my
- 6:27Speaker 7: bridesmaids and said, this is what I want to do.
- 6:29Speaker 7: This is how it's going to work. They weren't that
- 6:30Speaker 7: happy with it, to begin to what.
- 6:32Speaker 4: Traditionally bridesmaids organized the hens for the bride.
- 6:35Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, so bridesmaids like organize it all and it's
- 6:38Speaker 7: meant to be one hundred percent of surprise. I was
- 6:40Speaker 7: very aware that these things add up very quickly because
- 6:43Speaker 7: I've been to a few hens in my day. I'm
- 6:46Speaker 7: at that age where every man and his dog is
- 6:48Speaker 7: getting marriedcy.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Yeah, look, Lucy's an ex. She's currently single.
- 6:52Speaker 7: For any puppies at the dog park who want intro, yeah,
- 6:56Speaker 7: she's into goodles.
- 6:58Speaker 6: So just to hit so you trap so that.
- 7:01Speaker 5: The tea hang on.
- 7:02Speaker 2: You didn't say no, I said grued or yeah.
- 7:05Speaker 7: But I paid for the house purely because I said, look,
- 7:08Speaker 7: this is what I want to contribute to it, because
- 7:09Speaker 7: I just don't want the cost getting out of control
- 7:13Speaker 7: for everybody else coming. I'm very aware that everybody that
- 7:16Speaker 7: was coming to my hands was in a very different
- 7:18Speaker 7: financial circumstance. Like some of my friends are single, some
- 7:21Speaker 7: of them are married with kids, some of them have
- 7:23Speaker 7: just bought houses, some are.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Saving home deposits.
- 7:25Speaker 7: Like I just hate the idea that it would be
- 7:28Speaker 7: astronomical to celebrate me.
- 7:30Speaker 6: It's also awkward to ask. Do you ask your friends?
- 7:34Speaker 5: Do you say you have to?
- 7:35Speaker 4: Is it that awkward thing where you just send a
- 7:37Speaker 4: Facebook messenger with your bsban account number, Like, it's a
- 7:39Speaker 4: very awkward thing to do.
- 7:40Speaker 7: Yeah, So the girls did still contribute, and that wasn't
- 7:44Speaker 7: organized by me.
- 7:45Speaker 2: So my girlfriends organized the.
- 7:47Speaker 7: Party and the alcohol and the food and the topless waiter,
- 7:51Speaker 7: all without me, which I'm very grateful for. But I
- 7:55Speaker 7: think this opens up a bigger conversation around who is
- 7:58Speaker 7: meant to carry that burden, because you guys would know
- 8:01Speaker 7: parties get out of control pretty quickly. Hiring someone to
- 8:04Speaker 7: come as entertainment, then food and alcohol you're looking at
- 8:07Speaker 7: like at least a couple of hundred dollars ahead. Let alone,
- 8:10Speaker 7: if you wanted to go away for the weekend, then
- 8:12Speaker 7: there's accommodation and everything on top of that, and I
- 8:15Speaker 7: just think it's really unrealistic to expect your wedding guests
- 8:19Speaker 7: to pay for that, because.
- 8:20Speaker 6: Well, here's the thing.
- 8:20Speaker 4: According to retail Me not Right, which is a website
- 8:23Speaker 4: in the US, apparently one hundred and eighty Australian dollars
- 8:26Speaker 4: is what a guest can expect to pay at a
- 8:28Speaker 4: bachelorette party.
- 8:29Speaker 5: One hundred and eighties.
- 8:30Speaker 7: See, I feel like that is so, so, so much money.
- 8:34Speaker 7: And then on top of that, if we go with
- 8:37Speaker 7: what tradition says according to Vogue, each guest obviously pays
- 8:41Speaker 7: for themselves, but they're meant to cover the cost of
- 8:43Speaker 7: the brighte, so like that would be that's fair, though.
- 8:46Speaker 5: It's your celebration.
- 8:47Speaker 4: If one of my best friends is getting married, I'd
- 8:49Speaker 4: chuck in one hundred bucks or fifty bucks.
- 8:51Speaker 8: So I get it.
- 8:51Speaker 7: I totally get it, and I'm on exactly the same page.
- 8:54Speaker 7: But we are both in a very privileged position where
- 8:57Speaker 7: we can afford that it's within our budgets. What if
- 9:00Speaker 7: your best friend's getting married and you're up to your
- 9:02Speaker 7: eyeballs in credit card debt, like that could actually give
- 9:05Speaker 7: you mad anxiety to have to pay for something that
- 9:08Speaker 7: maybe you hadn't anticipated.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Have you ever been like a maid of honor?
- 9:11Speaker 7: I have, I have, And it's a lot of pressure, responsibility.
- 9:15Speaker 3: See I've been a best man three times, low key
- 9:18Speaker 3: flex there from me.
- 9:19Speaker 2: You have, so I've only done it once.
- 9:22Speaker 3: But you must be popular. No, always the bride's maid,
- 9:24Speaker 3: never the bride.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Right, Well, that's on you, bab that's on.
- 9:28Speaker 1: The worst thing you think it is a meeting. I'll
- 9:30Speaker 1: cop that.
- 9:30Speaker 3: But the best man always cops the hit as well,
- 9:33Speaker 3: because you sit there and you organize the bachelor party
- 9:36Speaker 3: and there might be say fifty people on the list
- 9:39Speaker 3: that go, and they're all like, yep, I'm in, I'm in.
- 9:41Speaker 3: So you go and you book the accommodation, you book everything,
- 9:44Speaker 3: the entertainment. Then one by one people start dropping off,
- 9:47Speaker 3: dropping off, dropping off. And I've actually paid three to
- 9:51Speaker 3: four thousand bucks out of my own pocket because I've
- 9:54Speaker 3: had to pay for everything and people just haven't come.
- 9:56Speaker 2: That is ridiculous.
- 9:58Speaker 7: And see that's a burden that I don't I think
- 10:00Speaker 7: anyone should have to carry.
- 10:01Speaker 2: But it's a part of the process.
- 10:03Speaker 7: And then I don't know, it just makes me feel
- 10:05Speaker 7: uncomfortable because I just hate other people being financially compromised
- 10:09Speaker 7: because of me.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Right now, Victoria Devine, your HENS weekend, last weekend, girls
- 10:15Speaker 3: just want to do what.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Have funds? They want to have fun.
- 10:25Speaker 6: You've got to sing it, Victoria, I'm.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Not going to sing it. You guys do not pay
- 10:29Speaker 2: me enough. Absolutely not.
- 10:31Speaker 3: So with your HENS weekends, you hide yourself in Airbnb
- 10:34Speaker 3: down the coast. You had a lot of entertainment, a
- 10:36Speaker 3: lot of activities. Now that can cost a lot of money.
- 10:39Speaker 3: So we're wondering on thirty one O six five, what
- 10:41Speaker 3: have you had to do either for your HENS or
- 10:43Speaker 3: your bucks and how much did it end up costing you? Emily,
- 10:47Speaker 3: you wanted some advice.
- 10:48Speaker 8: Yeah, that's all right, guys.
- 10:52Speaker 2: It's not what we anticipated. But like we're here, what
- 10:55Speaker 2: do you want to know? Emily.
- 10:57Speaker 8: I'm a little bit in a sort of stick situation
- 11:00Speaker 8: because I am the chosen bridesmaids are made of honor,
- 11:04Speaker 8: and my beautiful, beautiful best mate she's getting married. But
- 11:08Speaker 8: I've been asked to organize the hen's party and the
- 11:11Speaker 8: bridle shower and things like that. But I'm really awkward
- 11:14Speaker 8: with asking about money because part of me just wants
- 11:17Speaker 8: to lay it on sick, but I also like, I
- 11:19Speaker 8: can't afford it, and so I want to make sure
- 11:21Speaker 8: that this day is perfect for her, especially the Hen's party.
- 11:25Speaker 8: But I kind of need some help with the mulla.
- 11:28Speaker 7: So it's hard, right, and it's awkward asking people for
- 11:32Speaker 7: cash before you've organized it because you're like, all right,
- 11:35Speaker 7: like I've done the budget, I need, you know, maybe
- 11:37Speaker 7: one hundred bucks from each of you so I can
- 11:39Speaker 7: go and organize this. Like there's a lot of organizing,
- 11:42Speaker 7: but I would honestly start with a spreadsheet, break down
- 11:45Speaker 7: what you want to do as many of the things
- 11:48Speaker 7: DIY as possible. Obviously it's time consuming though, so I
- 11:52Speaker 7: can understand if you want to outsource some of it.
- 11:55Speaker 7: But from my perspective, I go, all right, what can
- 11:57Speaker 7: we do and where can we do it? Think think
- 12:00Speaker 7: venue needs to come first, because that's arguably going to
- 12:03Speaker 7: be one of your biggest costs because either you're going
- 12:06Speaker 7: to have to pay for food and beverage, or you
- 12:08Speaker 7: might have an airbnb, or you might get away with
- 12:11Speaker 7: having it at someone's house, which could be a bit
- 12:13Speaker 7: of a money win because then there's maybe no cost.
- 12:16Speaker 7: But I would actually sit down with the bride and say, well, actually,
- 12:19Speaker 7: I want this to be amazing. I want you to
- 12:21Speaker 7: have a really good time. What are your expectations so
- 12:24Speaker 7: that you can manage that along the way, because there
- 12:27Speaker 7: would be nothing worse than her expecting you to basically
- 12:30Speaker 7: create a circus for her. And then she gets there
- 12:32Speaker 7: and she's like, oh, this is not what I thought
- 12:34Speaker 7: it would be.
- 12:35Speaker 2: So the money part hate for that to happen exactly.
- 12:38Speaker 7: But it's more around like, well, what do you want
- 12:40Speaker 7: to do and how can we make that happen? And
- 12:42Speaker 7: I think there's nothing more beautiful than the thought, And
- 12:45Speaker 7: genuinely it's the thought that counts. And I was talking
- 12:47Speaker 7: to my bridesmaids about this, and you know what had
- 12:50Speaker 7: happened at other HENS parties. Honestly the most meaningful things
- 12:54Speaker 7: that I think you could do, And having had my
- 12:57Speaker 7: HENS literally last weekend, it's all the small things. It's
- 13:01Speaker 7: the fact that my friends reached out to my fiance
- 13:04Speaker 7: and got him to answer all these questions and then
- 13:06Speaker 7: we had games based around what he had answered and
- 13:09Speaker 7: whether I could answer the same question with the same response,
- 13:12Speaker 7: and just things that are quite meaningful don't need to
- 13:17Speaker 7: cost a lot of money, So I think if you
- 13:19Speaker 7: do a heap of googling of like free hens activities
- 13:21Speaker 7: and jam pack the day and then maybe pick one
- 13:24Speaker 7: hero activity that you go all right, well, this is
- 13:27Speaker 7: where we're going to allocate the funds too.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Well, can I hate to kill the vibe I've just
- 13:30Speaker 4: searched on Amazon you can get Pin the Penis on
- 13:32Speaker 4: the Man for four dollars on Amazon.
- 13:34Speaker 2: It's a fundation money weird that is so affordable.
- 13:36Speaker 6: And such a fun game for families and children.
- 13:38Speaker 5: I mean four bucks, come on.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Yeah, Look, I feel like all of those things are
- 13:42Speaker 2: really fun.
- 13:42Speaker 7: But for me, it was really about feeling as though
- 13:46Speaker 7: my friends had put the time, energy and effort into it,
- 13:49Speaker 7: and they absolutely had, And it was more about me
- 13:52Speaker 7: being surrounded by my favorite people. And I think that
- 13:55Speaker 7: that's where for me it meant the most. It wasn't
- 13:58Speaker 7: actually about, oh my gosh, we went to the most
- 14:00Speaker 7: expensive hotel.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Because we didn't.
- 14:02Speaker 7: We actually ended up going out to the pub for
- 14:04Speaker 7: dinner because that's what the budget allowed.
- 14:07Speaker 2: We ended up having.
- 14:08Speaker 7: Some pizzas and some hot chips and a few drinks,
- 14:10Speaker 7: and I thought that was perfect.
- 14:13Speaker 8: G you know what, that's perfect By the sounds Pinterest
- 14:15Speaker 8: is going to be my best mate.
- 14:16Speaker 7: Oh, Pinterest, Absolutely, there's so many good diis.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Also.
- 14:20Speaker 7: The other thing that I think can bring down the
- 14:23Speaker 7: cost of a HENS is not expecting everybody to do
- 14:26Speaker 7: every activity. It might be a little bit more of
- 14:29Speaker 7: a run around. I know, the organization part sucks. We're
- 14:32Speaker 7: going back to our spreadsheet here. For example, my girlfriends
- 14:36Speaker 7: took me to the spa in the morning, but only
- 14:38Speaker 7: a handful of them came and the rest of them
- 14:40Speaker 7: turned up later in the day. But I think it
- 14:42Speaker 7: can be a really meaningful day without you having to
- 14:46Speaker 7: throw thousands of dollars at it, because I think that's ridiculous.
- 14:48Speaker 3: All right, if you got yourself a little bit of
- 14:50Speaker 3: a money dilemma, you're struggling with your cash flow, you
- 14:52Speaker 3: got yourself into a little bit of a situation, maybe
- 14:54Speaker 3: you need of advice. Hit us up anytime on socials.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Just search Sheese on the money, just like Simon has done.
- 15:00Speaker 3: She wants some advice on how to pay for IVF
- 15:03Speaker 3: using super Okay, we're going to go from Hen's Nights
- 15:06Speaker 3: to IVF.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I like what we're doing here.
- 15:08Speaker 7: I feel like it's diverse, it's different, but you know,
- 15:11Speaker 7: what the common theme here is all of it's really expensive.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Yep, this is.
- 15:16Speaker 6: She's on the Money radio show.
- 15:18Speaker 3: If you want your money dilemma solved, well then you've
- 15:21Speaker 3: come to the right.
- 15:22Speaker 6: Place, right.
- 15:24Speaker 4: So every week we do a money dilemma. It's when
- 15:27Speaker 4: we bring someone's financial story on air to get Victoria's
- 15:29Speaker 4: advice on.
- 15:30Speaker 5: What they should do.
- 15:31Speaker 4: So Simone send us a DM about paying for IVF
- 15:34Speaker 4: using superannuation. So she says, Hi, v my husband and
- 15:37Speaker 4: I are looking at going down the path of IVF
- 15:40Speaker 4: as we haven't been able to fell pregnant naturally. Obviously,
- 15:42Speaker 4: it's an expensive process and I've heard you can pay
- 15:45Speaker 4: for it out of your superannuation. Between us, we have
- 15:48Speaker 4: a total combined income of one hundred and sixty thousand
- 15:50Speaker 4: dollars a year. She wants to know, is it a
- 15:52Speaker 4: bad time because of the economy and can you actually
- 15:55Speaker 4: dip into your super and take money out?
- 15:57Speaker 7: Yes, you absolutely can take money out of your superannuation
- 16:00Speaker 7: to pay for IVF, which I actually don't think a
- 16:03Speaker 7: lot of people know because it's not something like I am.
- 16:06Speaker 7: I would say young, I'm in my thirties, I'm a
- 16:08Speaker 7: young female and a lot of my friends are. Now,
- 16:11Speaker 7: this is weird, guys getting pregnant on purpose, And this
- 16:15Speaker 7: is not something I've incurred before, because historically when my
- 16:20Speaker 7: friends got pregnant, you'd kind of like side eye them
- 16:22Speaker 7: and be like, are we excited about this?
- 16:24Speaker 1: How are we reacting about the Yeah?
- 16:26Speaker 2: How are you reacting about this?
- 16:27Speaker 7: And that's actually my default still, I don't mean it,
- 16:30Speaker 7: but Trav, if you were like, I'm expecting a baby,
- 16:32Speaker 7: I'd be like, oh, are we excited about this?
- 16:35Speaker 5: Or no?
- 16:35Speaker 8: Yes?
- 16:36Speaker 5: I mean yeah, yeah.
- 16:37Speaker 7: But nowadays my friends are on purpose getting pregnant, and
- 16:40Speaker 7: if they can't get pregnant, they're looking at alternatives like
- 16:43Speaker 7: IVF and IUI to actually facilitate that process, which is
- 16:47Speaker 7: arguably incredibly expensive.
- 16:49Speaker 2: But because all of us have been.
- 16:51Speaker 7: Trying not to get pregnant for so long, none of
- 16:53Speaker 7: us know how to actually get pregnant and what it
- 16:56Speaker 7: might cost.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Right, I think we know how to get pregnant.
- 16:58Speaker 7: Mate, But like I would have historically no idea when
- 17:03Speaker 7: it came to IVF because it's not something that's ever
- 17:06Speaker 7: been in my circle. And you only come into IVF
- 17:09Speaker 7: when you find yourself in a little bit of a
- 17:11Speaker 7: pickle where you.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Come to get pregnant.
- 17:12Speaker 6: There's not just one way to get pregnant, but twenty
- 17:14Speaker 6: twenty two, you know.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Yeah, And the thing is a good friend of mine.
- 17:17Speaker 3: I was having a chat to him about this because
- 17:19Speaker 3: he's going through his third bout of IVF, and we
- 17:24Speaker 3: just sat there and thought, all those years where you
- 17:27Speaker 3: know you're trying to be careful, and now it's costing
- 17:30Speaker 3: him over thirty thousand dollars just to try to do it.
- 17:33Speaker 1: He could have been gone wild.
- 17:34Speaker 7: It is actually crazy, like as women and I talk
- 17:37Speaker 7: to my girlfriends about this all the time. We have
- 17:40Speaker 7: spent our entire lives on birth control and talking about
- 17:43Speaker 7: contraception and avoiding getting pregnant so much so that when
- 17:48Speaker 7: the narrative flips and you want to get pregnant, you're like,
- 17:50Speaker 7: hold on, what do I have to do to put
- 17:52Speaker 7: my body in the best possible position? And to me
- 17:54Speaker 7: it sounds wild. But let's get back to IVF. So yes,
- 17:57Speaker 7: IVF is a very significant financial and it's one that
- 18:01Speaker 7: a lot of us don't plan for because, as I said,
- 18:03Speaker 7: you don't really know that you're going to need it
- 18:05Speaker 7: until you need it.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Because we don't think Australia.
- 18:07Speaker 7: Talk about fertility as early on as I believe we should.
- 18:10Speaker 7: Each round of IVF in Australia costs about ten thousand
- 18:14Speaker 7: dollars depending on where you're going. Some of it is
- 18:17Speaker 7: covered by Medicare, but not all of it, and it
- 18:19Speaker 7: really depends on what institution or hospital you go through
- 18:23Speaker 7: as to what it costs. And I think my number
- 18:26Speaker 7: one tip would be shop around and go to different
- 18:29Speaker 7: places and ask them what their fees are, because I
- 18:32Speaker 7: have seen it as expensive as seventeen thousand dollars arount
- 18:36Speaker 7: and I've seen it as low as like maybe six
- 18:38Speaker 7: thousand dollars around depending on the support available if you
- 18:41Speaker 7: go to one, no, No, no, All in Australia, All
- 18:44Speaker 7: in Australia. But it is really, you know, wild that
- 18:47Speaker 7: it's so varied. But if you're in a situation where
- 18:50Speaker 7: you're like, you know what, I really want to get pregnant.
- 18:53Speaker 7: We just don't have, you know, ten grand per round
- 18:56Speaker 7: sitting in our bank account to pay for this. You
- 18:58Speaker 7: can actually apply for early access to your super for
- 19:01Speaker 7: IVF treatments.
- 19:02Speaker 6: Which I think that's really cool.
- 19:04Speaker 7: So what happens is you sort it, you go to
- 19:06Speaker 7: your Supranuation Fund, and you're actually looking for an early
- 19:10Speaker 7: access to superranuation under what they call compassionate grounds. So
- 19:15Speaker 7: this would be for things, according to the ATO, that
- 19:18Speaker 7: need to meet a certain criteria. Right, so it either
- 19:21Speaker 7: needs to be a life threatening illness or injury, an
- 19:24Speaker 7: acute or chronic pain, or an acute or chronic mental illness.
- 19:29Speaker 7: So thankfully IVF is able to be claimed under the
- 19:32Speaker 7: Mental Health Provision because if you can show with the
- 19:35Speaker 7: certification of medical practitioners, So basically you go to your
- 19:38Speaker 7: GP and get them to sign off on a letter
- 19:40Speaker 7: saying yep, we can do it, but you can access
- 19:43Speaker 7: it by going to your GP and saying, hey, can
- 19:45Speaker 7: you help me access this scheme, and your doctor will
- 19:48Speaker 7: write a letter that says you are suffering mentally due
- 19:51Speaker 7: to infertility, and then you may be eligible for early
- 19:54Speaker 7: release of super.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Just remember though, you aren't dipping into your super which
- 19:58Speaker 3: is actually robbing you later.
- 20:00Speaker 6: You've got to remember that, right.
- 20:01Speaker 3: If you've got a question, make sure you hit us
- 20:03Speaker 3: up on socials. Just search Shees on the Money. But
- 20:05Speaker 3: coming up next, Victoria, You're going to give some people
- 20:08Speaker 3: some advice how they can keep some money in their bad.
- 20:10Speaker 2: I am.
- 20:11Speaker 7: I've had a bit of a cop out this week, though,
- 20:13Speaker 7: guys have taken it to my socials and my community

- 20:34Speaker 1: Simple save this Saturday.
- 20:35Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Look, usually each week, Victoria, you give us some sneaky
- 20:39Speaker 3: tips on how to keep more bucks in our bank account.
- 20:41Speaker 1: But you've alsourced it.
- 20:42Speaker 2: I have work smarter, not harder, Trav.
- 20:45Speaker 3: She's the Money Radio Show, Mantram.

- 20:56Speaker 7: shees on the Money community are doing so exciting.
- 20:58Speaker 4: I love it because I actually learned here. This is
- 21:00Speaker 4: where I get my education on this show in this segment.
- 21:02Speaker 7: Oh well, you're bringing a money saving hack to the
- 21:04Speaker 7: table this week, too, aren't you.
- 21:06Speaker 5: I am Victoria. I beat inflation?
- 21:08Speaker 2: How'd you beat inflation? Come on, start us off on?
- 21:11Speaker 2: Good for it?
- 21:11Speaker 4: I thought, you know what, happy epist et cetera, et cetera.
- 21:15Speaker 4: I'm going to treat myself to a new pair of
- 21:17Speaker 4: R M Williams boots.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Treat yourself, mate.
- 21:20Speaker 2: That also sounds like a very expensive purchase.
- 21:22Speaker 1: And when did you buy a farm?
- 21:24Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 21:24Speaker 4: So I went to ARM Williams and I went, I
- 21:26Speaker 4: tried on the shoes, I did the whole experience. It's
- 21:29Speaker 4: very lux pay for them. Five hundred bucks right for
- 21:31Speaker 4: a pair of arms, expensive, brand new, so expensive. And I, god,
- 21:34Speaker 4: that's a lot of money. I was arming an ring.
- 21:36Speaker 4: Should I do it? Should I buy?
- 21:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I'll do it anyway. I get home.
- 21:39Speaker 4: But ten days later I get an email from RM
- 21:41Speaker 4: Williams and I, oh, I wonder, Oh maybe I left
- 21:44Speaker 4: something in the store. No, an update on our pricing.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Due to inflation, we have upped our price by one
- 21:50Speaker 4: hundred dollars.
- 21:52Speaker 2: That's so much money.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Ten days after I paid five hundred, they're now six.
- 21:56Speaker 5: Baby, I just beat inflation.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Cachow wait hold on.
- 21:59Speaker 7: So you're trying to claim that you had a money
- 22:02Speaker 7: win because a company did something after you bought a
- 22:05Speaker 7: pair of shoes.
- 22:06Speaker 5: I've been inflation.
- 22:07Speaker 3: So what are you trying to say to be able
- 22:08Speaker 3: to tell the future when and buy just before they
- 22:11Speaker 3: raise their prices.
- 22:12Speaker 2: No, no, no, this is my money to Let's go to
- 22:14Speaker 2: Chanel Trav. I'm all right, might tell me about we
- 22:18Speaker 2: move on from him.
- 22:19Speaker 5: That I want to say what he wants.
- 22:20Speaker 4: I'm saying, if there's something that you really want to buy,
- 22:22Speaker 4: buy it now, because inflation is coming.
- 22:24Speaker 7: Absolutely terrible, terrible money tips Trav. Let's turn his mic
- 22:29Speaker 7: off and we're going to move to what the she's

- 22:44Speaker 4: Sixty five bucks? I get unlimited data and I buy
- 22:47Speaker 4: my phone outright. It saves me so much money.
- 22:49Speaker 7: I feel like I need to do this. I used
- 22:51Speaker 7: to do it, but you can get some really good ones.
- 22:53Speaker 7: So he said he has amazed him, and he only
- 22:55Speaker 7: pays eighteen dollars a month.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Wow, wow, money, we wow your thought of this.
- 23:01Speaker 4: I pay sixty, but I do buy my phone outright.

- 23:07Speaker 4: then otherwise you are saving month to month.
- 23:08Speaker 3: Now this definitely isn't sponsored, but Boost I think they do.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Like unlimited calls and texts and like two hundred and
- 23:14Speaker 3: eighty gigs of data for three hundred bucks per year.
- 23:17Speaker 6: But for a year for a year.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, that is really cheap.
- 23:20Speaker 6: All right.
- 23:21Speaker 7: So we've got Patrese. Patrese says rice cookers. You guys
- 23:24Speaker 7: keep buying prepackaged rice and it is adding up. Get
- 23:28Speaker 7: a cheap rice cooker from Kmart for fourteen dollars and
- 23:31Speaker 7: it'll pay itself off over the long term.
- 23:33Speaker 5: No, that's a super save a tip.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I'm totally into that because I burn expensive No. No,
- 23:39Speaker 2: the rice cooker, it's fool proof.

- 23:57Speaker 2: Oh wow, what a wizard. Chloe has a funny one.
- 24:00Speaker 7: She says, get a dirty clothes basket that has a lid.

- 25:00Speaker 7: reckon at some point we'll go back to the community
- 25:02Speaker 7: for some money tips.
