- 0:17prostitute or a dog. Edit.
- 0:18I used to love doggy chow. I used.
- 0:22To love doggy chow. Too sorry I was late, I was busy
- 0:25describing fall fashions to the blind.
- 0:28I'm Crystal. She felt his manhood rising to a
- 0:33pulsating frenzy. I'm baby lame.
- 0:39Also like last time I had this I got more than a patch.
- 0:44We'll get into that, yeah. Welcome to Camp Classic A.
- 0:47Thoughtful podcast about stupid movies.
- 0:50Every two weeks we get together and discuss a gay old movie and
- 0:55try and figure out if it deserves a merit patch.
- 0:59And why do we do it? Still don't know?
- 1:03Someone has to. Someone has to, yeah.
- 1:05Thank God someone is. Doing what I what I will say is
- 1:07this, you know, it might it might surprise you, Crystal, but
- 1:11there have actually been a few other Cam classic podcasts
- 1:14various like various. Did you have a?
- 1:19Brain tumor for breakfast. In in what's, what's the word
- 1:23intonations? Yeah, iterations, iterations.
- 1:26Thank you. Yeah, great.
- 1:27I'm so articulate again. Really been working the most
- 1:29smartest most smartest? But yeah, there's been quite a
- 1:31few. They don't last that long.
- 1:32I think we've got more episodes than most now, so you know.
- 1:35What are you saying? There have been actual shows
- 1:37called Camp Classics or just like right?
- 1:40Yeah, like, but basically, yeah. Totally.
- 1:43Like sometimes when I'm trying to research a movie I will like
- 1:47try and listen to a podcast and there's just archives of like
- 1:51shows that 2 gay people started and.
- 1:54They give up. They give up and.
- 1:56Not us. They're not giving up.
- 1:59Clinging on to that, yeah, but that.
- 2:01That's when we're going to carry on.
- 2:02No one can stop us. Help help me help me.
- 2:09Even TikTok because we've just, we've just launched our TikTok
- 2:12page and you told me there are haters already.
- 2:16We've got like 50 followers and a couple of them are haters.
- 2:20Brilliant. Bring it on.
- 2:21Yeah, they they said they weren't happy with our Black
- 2:24Swan coverage. They said you were so close to
- 2:26getting it. Fuck you.
- 2:28I think I should start making like more rage baity little
- 2:32clips. Yeah, I just think we should go
- 2:34full on rage bait with it now. Yeah, it's the era.
- 2:37It's the era of rage bait. Hey, you know what I'm enraged
- 2:40about? Go on, tell me.
- 2:42The Buffy reboot being cancelled.
- 2:44I know you don't care, but literally.
- 2:46Didn't I didn't even know it came.
- 2:48I'm not even saying this to be a little maybe I'm saying this to
- 2:50be rage. Basically, I didn't even realize
- 2:52it was back until poor Sarah Michelle Gellar was there going
- 2:58I'm. Fucking livid.
- 2:59Did you even watch it? Did anyone watch it?
- 3:01Hasn't come out. They filmed a pilot and and they
- 3:05filmed the pilot and Hulu cancelled it.
- 3:07Like didn't take it to series. Oh.
- 3:10Oh, I'm sorry. That must.
- 3:13Have been devastating for you. It actually was it.
- 3:15Can't have been very good then. Listen It was directed and
- 3:19produced by Chloe Zhao, who has an Oscar.
- 3:21For what should know these things but.
- 3:24Well she was. She has an Oscar for Oh fuck
- 3:27what is it? She directed Hamnet and a Marvel
- 3:31movie and she doesn't. She doesn't.
- 3:33Slightly like and then the Buffy reboot.
- 3:35Yeah, that's a slightly wild range.
- 3:38Isn't it? But they say that it was an an
- 3:40executive Hulu who just kept saying to Sarah Michelle go
- 3:44like, I never watched this show, I never got it.
- 3:46And he's the one who didn't want it.
- 3:47OK. They're just afraid of strong
- 3:49women. Blah blah blah girl power
- 3:54feminism. Do you know what I mean?
- 3:55Well, things that I've been excited about this week.
- 3:57Denise Richards facelift. Oh, I haven't seen.
- 4:00Oh, she looks sensational. Oh, she looks absolutely
- 4:02sensational. Because she has been a bit,
- 4:04she's been a bit Joan Crawford in the later years.
- 4:06Recently I saw a clip of her and Charlie Sheen reunited for his
- 4:11documentary, which I think is a bit old anyway.
- 4:14But I went down the loophole of seeing her and it was she's a
- 4:16bit, she was a bit mummy dearest, but no, she's snatched
- 4:18and back. So welcome back Denise Richards.
- 4:21You've got value again now that your face is tight, yes.
- 4:25Feminism. Do you know what I mean?
- 4:27We, we have some other things that we're very excited about.
- 4:29Well, actually when this episode comes out, we will have, we will
- 4:33have been BFI alumni by the time you're listening to this.
- 4:37We have done our BFI. Events.
- 4:38Do we pretend it went really well or do we sort of fester in
- 4:42self pity because we flopped at the first hurdle?
- 4:44What what? What side do you want to go down
- 4:47well? You already said that it's all
- 4:49about delusions, so you were saying earlier, so let's just
- 4:53keep that going. Yay.
- 4:54Oh my God, we had such a great time.
- 4:56The guests were amazing, The audience was fantastic.
- 4:59So good that we're going to be. It's an episode, isn't?
- 5:01It they were actually queuing around the block, weren't they?
- 5:04Like they were just waiting for returns because we obviously
- 5:06sold out like within minutes. Yeah, I mean, it's a pretty big
- 5:08deal, Pretty big deal. Yeah, it was great and looking
- 5:11forward to more. And actually if you check the
- 5:13website for the tour dates, the UK tour is starting.
- 5:16Yeah, the BFI have announced us as permanent residents, I think.
- 5:19Is that is that enough to lose? Somebody lied to her several
- 5:25times. We went to the BFI flared
- 5:27though, didn't we? We went to the opening night.
- 5:28We saw. We saw hunky Jesus.
- 5:31Very fun. I loved it.
- 5:32It was so great. It was.
- 5:33I really want to RIP that off as something to do in general.
- 5:36Yeah, It's basically a hot Jesus competition.
- 5:38Yeah, it was great. And then I went to see Lady
- 5:42Champagne the next night, which was like a drag, like Airplane
- 5:45or Naked Gun. It was really funny, like loads
- 5:48of stupid cum jokes. Buzzy, Buzzy Films.
- 5:51Films. Other thing we're excited about,
- 5:54You know who I got on the podcast this week?
- 5:57Yeah, right. OK.
- 5:58It's bit a bit weird, isn't it? That's my Lorraine noise.
- 6:05The vacuum cleaner. Yeah.
- 6:07Yeah, you somehow managed to get pop superstar Lorraine on this
- 6:14episode. Yeah, OK, sure.
- 6:16Why? Well, she is just such a big fan
- 6:18of Troop Beverly Hills. She messaged and said I need to
- 6:22come talk about Shelley Long. I love this though because you
- 6:25did message me and you're like, I think I can get an interview
- 6:27with Lorraine. How can we shoehorn this in on
- 6:30the podcast? And I just said, who cares?
- 6:34Yeah, just do. It just do it, who cares?
- 6:36We're trying to make this podcast more of a thing.
- 6:38Throw more at the wall, more shit at the wolves.
- 6:41Hey, who knows, maybe this film thing isn't what this podcast
- 6:44is. I think just keep on trying.
- 6:46What was she like? She was fantastic.
- 6:48Did she have the long nails? She had the long nails.
- 6:50She turned up head to toe. Black leather, which is what you
- 6:53expect. Yeah.
- 6:54Like full like lesbian goth vibes and then.
- 6:57Was the hair slightly wet and like, kind of, you know, like.
- 7:00Yeah, yeah, textured. But what?
- 7:02But not only did she look like that, she had an entourage of
- 7:04three people who were also all in black leather.
- 7:07Yes. Were you in black leather too?
- 7:09I wasn't. I wasn't.
- 7:10I didn't get the memo. No one told me.
- 7:12I. Saw a video of you like sweatily
- 7:14riding a bike with a ring line. Yeah, I did it at the Universal
- 7:19like offices and you think they would have like a creator studio
- 7:22there or something like some kind of setup, but no, they're
- 7:25like bring your own ring light. So I was on a Lime bike with a
- 7:29ring light wrapped around my neck.
- 7:30At Showbiz. But so she's a big fan of the
- 7:35podcast then, I take it? Yeah, she's huge fan.
- 7:37A huge fan. She knew exactly what it was all
- 7:39about. She knew why she was there.
- 7:41She was thrilled to. Be What do you talk to her
- 7:44about? I mean, we'll listen to it in a
- 7:46bit, but what? Yeah, it's going to be at the
- 7:47end of the episode. It's just kind of getting her
- 7:49sense on camp and basically kind of teaching her what camp means.
- 7:56But whatever. It was really fun.
- 7:58She The funny thing that she did ask me was like, am I camp?
- 8:02I didn't know you. Camp No, she was like, am I camp
- 8:05about herself? OK.
- 8:07And I'm like, I don't know how to answer this because it's kind
- 8:10of not. It's a.
- 8:11Yeah, like is that a trick question?
- 8:12Yeah, it's kind of is. She like going am I camp?
- 8:14Then Yeah. Am I?
- 8:16Because it's I should have just leaned in and said yes, but I
- 8:19was like kind of afraid of insulting.
- 8:21Her. Well, it is hard to know how to
- 8:22play it with Lorraine. Yeah, because she's.
- 8:24I don't think she is that camp. Like I think she's got a
- 8:26sincerity and which is like, you know, people resonate with she
- 8:30writes like soulful bangers, right?
- 8:33Like it's like emotional. I like that we've got the rain
- 8:37on this I. Know, I know.
- 8:38I know, I know. Who else?
- 8:41Who else? What is camp is having an
- 8:43entourage of three people dressed exactly the same and one
- 8:45of them was constantly fixing her hair.
- 8:49Like with your shitty ring light.
- 8:51So no one cared about the setup, but they were like.
- 8:53But there was always a man just like doing, you know, in the
- 8:55comeback when he's like constantly in shot fixing her
- 8:58hair. It was that it was fantastic.
- 9:00And I didn't. I was like, maybe I should
- 9:02address this, but I didn't want to insult the people in the.
- 9:04Real. Yeah, because that's quite camp
- 9:05as well. Yeah, well, I'm excited to hear
- 9:07what you said to her. Yeah.
- 9:09And hopefully we got some. If you're listening to this
- 9:11episode because you're a Lorraine fan, the rest of this
- 9:14episode has nothing to do to do with Lorraine.
- 9:17Welcome. We'll try as we talk.
- 9:19Let's see if we can shoehorn in Lorraine into the episode so it
- 9:23makes more sense as we build to it.
- 9:24That's my challenge for you. Other business, other business.
- 9:30Before we get into today's episode, we had a suggestion
- 9:32from Ren on Spotify. I think they said why is it
- 9:37called the suggestion sack and not the fag bag?
- 9:40Oh. Fag bag is pretty good.
- 9:43Yeah, yeah. I mean.
- 9:45We'll use them both. I still like this.
- 9:47I still like to debunk that sack.
- 9:49Yeah, yeah, exactly. I yeah.
- 9:51It's almost like fact bag is like too accomplished for what
- 9:54it is. You know what I mean?
- 9:56Something really twee about the suggestion sack.
- 9:59Yeah, listen, thank you. And we do welcome any format
- 10:03suggestions. Absolutely, absolutely.
- 10:05We've got some new Patreon members as well.
- 10:08Henry and Cara. Welcome to the gay trio.
- 10:11Heaven, did you say? Henry.
- 10:13Henry feels like heaven, that's how.
- 10:17That's a Lorraine reference. Yes.
- 10:20OK, Wait on the Lorraine scoreboard tick.
- 10:23That's number one, yeah. It's like heaven.
- 10:26Where are they from? Sweden No.
- 10:28But you're welcome. We're glad to have you.
- 10:30It's great to have. You also I had this comment on
- 10:33Gatrian and I'm so sorry to say I have to just read it out.
- 10:37LM commented on our Black Swan episode one.
- 10:41When am I going to get my member shout out?
- 10:47I'm so sorry LMI. Don't even know what your name.
- 10:49Is a sad existence. No, I'm sorry, I, I don't know
- 10:54how that I don't know how that happened, but we're very happy
- 10:57to have you and. Frankly, like you just want to
- 10:59members shout out. No, and two, I hope the Liza
- 11:03book is getting a special episode.
- 11:05Oh, we're moving into books now, are we as well?
- 11:08Shit good. We're like multi.
- 11:10I am interested to kind of hear the AI version of Liza Minnelli
- 11:14read her own audio book. Yeah, absolutely.
- 11:17We've also that is kept on Eliza.
- 11:20Yeah, maybe we should. Maybe with Eliza Book coming
- 11:22out, we should finally do cabaret.
- 11:23And then review the book as well and then get Liza AI an
- 11:28interview Liza AI some. Random influencer doing book
- 11:32promo and it was on her official page like this man with like
- 11:354000 followers. So there's you know what?
- 11:38There is a world where we could get a Liza collab.
- 11:41Liza AI to Co host the episode. Yeah.
- 11:45Oh, no. She I.
- 11:50Oh, which that one again? She.
- 11:52Slipped to the gangster. I also always want to say
- 11:55raspberries, but that's Carol Tanning.
- 11:58Oh yeah, raspberries. Raspberries.
- 12:06You know what? I told you this?
- 12:08You know why Carol Channing did that?
- 12:10No. So it was in the script blows
- 12:13Raspberry. And she didn't know what that
- 12:15meant, so she just read it out loud.
- 12:19So she was supposed to go. Yeah.
- 12:22And she didn't know what that what that term was.
- 12:24So she just went raspberries and they kept it in.
- 12:27Oh, great. OK.
- 12:29It's so good. Raspberry.
- 12:34Any other business? Any other business?
- 12:36I don't think so. The Gatreon, Yeah, I've
- 12:37mentioned it. You can sign up, It's £4 a
- 12:40month. You get a bonus episode.
- 12:41We would love to have you over there.
- 12:43Yeah, and like, I don't know what it is, but I think we need
- 12:47to give the Gatreon something else.
- 12:50OK. So just leaving that as a
- 12:54floater for you. There you go.
- 12:56OK. Just big big, big picture, big
- 13:00thoughts. There's something.
- 13:01There's something there. There's definitely something
- 13:03missing from all of this. But no, seriously, thank you for
- 13:09purchasing your Gatron tickets. We it means a lot to us, doesn't
- 13:15it? It does.
- 13:16It allows us to, you know, to just add production values to
- 13:20book people like Lorraine. Yeah, she's, I mean, Lorraine's
- 13:24not cheap and I had to pay for that Lime bike to to Kings Cross
- 13:29with that ring light. So, you know, your, your support
- 13:32goes a long way. Yeah.
- 13:33Help me, I'm poor. No listen.
- 13:35Baby. Though before we go any further,
- 13:38what the hell makes a camp classic?
- 13:40Well camp classic is something that needs to unlock queer joy.
- 13:44We want to get a wetty. It needs to be stupid, it should
- 13:48have an ongoing legacy that informs queer pop culture.
- 13:51And ultimately it needs to be anti mainstream slash underdog
- 13:54flop vibes that's been reclaimed by the F slurs.
- 13:57And today, these F slurs are talking Troop Beverly Hills.
- 14:03Fresh out of this suggestion sack.
- 14:04Fresh out of the suggestion sack from Niall.
- 14:07Hello, Niall. We've got a lot to be sorry for,
- 14:11Niall. Nothing can.
- 14:16What's your suggestion? Sack hasn't been that successful
- 14:19thus far in my opinion. Both times we've drawn the movie
- 14:23and I've been like, oh, fun, yeah, looking forward to that.
- 14:26And both times it's been a bit of a let down.
- 14:31Well, maybe that is correct. Maybe it's not because I had a
- 14:35bit of a 180 flip halfway through watching this movie.
- 14:39Yeah, that's just my little teaser for where I'm going.
- 14:45What's your history with this movie?
- 14:46I have no history with it. Likewise, I had never seen it.
- 14:48I feel like it's one of the few films of this ilk that I haven't
- 14:52watched because I was very much that person that would be like,
- 14:56oh God, I need a Bette Midler comedy to watch like in my 20s
- 14:59or so. You just would scroll a Goldie
- 15:01Hawn, Bette Midler, Shelley Long as well.
- 15:04Like I've seen all of them, but this, this was one that just
- 15:07kind of was there that I've never seen before and I don't
- 15:10know why. Yeah, I've never seen it, I
- 15:12don't think. This is the first thing I've
- 15:13ever seen with Shelley Long in it.
- 15:14Oh. Have you not seen the Brady
- 15:16Bunch films? No.
- 15:17Oh, that's interesting. Yeah.
- 15:18You've not seen Money Pit? No.
- 15:20Oh, OK. So you literally don't know who
- 15:23she is at all. No, I loved her.
- 15:25I mean, she's she's one of those ones.
- 15:27She kind of had a big spur in the 80s and then it kind of went
- 15:32a bit flopped Tina for her, right?
- 15:36She had a big argument with Bette Midler.
- 15:37They didn't like each other on set when they did a film
- 15:40together. And Bette Midler was actually
- 15:42meant to be in this. Disney wanted her for this,
- 15:44didn't they? But yeah, she's kind of just,
- 15:47you know, fizzled out slightly, but.
- 15:48So you're saying Bette Midler destroyed her career?
- 15:50Probably. Yeah, I wouldn't put it past.
- 15:52Her. I could see Bette Midler in this
- 15:53role though. Oh my God.
- 15:54Yeah, yeah. Or Goldie.
- 15:57Yeah. Or just any generic bloody woman
- 16:01from that period of time. Yeah.
- 16:02But I really liked her. She's very watchable.
- 16:07She's very Valerie Cherish. Totally.
- 16:09And I can completely see that Lisa Kudrow must have used her
- 16:13as a reference for the way she talks, the intonation, the red
- 16:17hair. Yeah.
- 16:18Yeah. Very Valerie Cherish.
- 16:20And in this movie, she's she's also got a bit of Elvira.
- 16:23Yes, yeah, I see that. And she's got a bit of Samantha
- 16:27Sex and the City. There's like without the like,
- 16:30slut. Yeah, OK.
- 16:32Yeah, yeah. Like the looks and like you know
- 16:37how like in Sex in the City, they would all all end up doing
- 16:40pratfalls also. And you're like.
- 16:42Does Samantha do a pratfall? They go she'd she'd Morris
- 16:46things or. Maybe she'd fall over and land
- 16:48on a Dick, you know what I mean? Yeah.
- 16:50Yeah. It's fun to just speak as
- 16:52Samantha, I think. Absolutely.
- 16:53I'm a trisexual, I'll try anything once.
- 16:56Well, so this movie, it was directed by Jeff Canoe, sounds
- 17:01like a fake name. Yeah, it definitely sounds like
- 17:03a fake name. He directed Revenge of the Nerds
- 17:06which I haven't seen. Nah did some of these movies.
- 17:08It was written by Pamela Norris, Margaret Greco Oberman and Ava
- 17:13Ostern. Freeze so written by three
- 17:15women. And I write saying that it's
- 17:17based on Pamela's own life. Yeah, maybe a bit.
- 17:20Yeah, didn't. She like do something like this?
- 17:25I thought I saw something that it was like it was based on her
- 17:29experiences in a girl. That's girl, she said.
- 17:32And then it was a fun dinner party story.
- 17:35And then got turned into right? Yeah.
- 17:37She was a writer on SNL for four years.
- 17:39Oh, OK. Yeah, it had a budget of $18
- 17:41million, but it was a box office bomb. 8.5 million it took.
- 17:48Wow, that is a big old flop, isn't?
- 17:50It that's really bad, Really fucking bad, and it's got 14% on
- 17:55Rotten Tomatoes. The synopsis is Troop Beverly
- 17:59Hills is hamstrung by a one joke premise, leaving this Shelly
- 18:03Long comedy woefully short on laughs.
- 18:07Ow. Ouch.
- 18:09Were you in any of these kind of things?
- 18:11You know, like, I don't know what the equivalent would have
- 18:13been in Canada, but I don't think it's the wilderness girls
- 18:16for. You it was Cubs and then that
- 18:18would have gone. Was Cubs the earliest because we
- 18:19had we had Beavers? I was a Beaver.
- 18:22I did Beavers. You're right.
- 18:23I was a Beavers. Yeah, I was a Beaver too.
- 18:27I really wanted to be a cub but I wasn't allowed to be.
- 18:30For some reason my mum wouldn't allow me to do it.
- 18:33I. Think maybe I did a bit of Cubs.
- 18:36Would you all right, Samantha? I did.
- 18:38I put a cop. Would you?
- 18:39Would you say you were an eager Beaver?
- 18:44OK, great. Do you know the tagline of this
- 18:48movie? No.
- 18:50Brace yourself. She's hilarious, she's
- 18:53captivating, she's wonderful. She's a Beverly Hills babe in
- 18:56the woods, and the woods are wild with laughter.
- 19:00Wow. OK.
- 19:03That's a lot. That's a big promise, isn't?
- 19:07It Yeah, the woods are wild with laughter.
- 19:11The other tag line is when the going gets tough, the tough goes
- 19:14shopping. What?
- 19:16Yeah, I mean, they're struggling even with this part of it.
- 19:20Yeah, I think if you can't do a good tag line for your movie, it
- 19:23means you had a bad premise to begin with.
- 19:25Yeah, exactly. There should be a few options if
- 19:28it's got that far, yeah. Absolutely.
- 19:30So this movie came out in 89, and it was part of a spate of
- 19:34movies that were kind of riffing on the success of Beverly Hills
- 19:38Cop. Really.
- 19:40Yes, So there was. Because I can kind of see
- 19:42Private Benjamin vibes. But but there was like a whole
- 19:46slew of movies. Oh, just set in Beverly Hills.
- 19:48Set in Beverly Hills, and so I've actually brought a small
- 19:51quiz. Oh, OK, wonderful.
- 19:53I want you to tell me I'm calling this quiz Beverly Hills.
- 19:58What a thrill. And because, as I said, this was
- 20:03part of a mini cycle of Hollywood movies that were made
- 20:05after the box office success of Beverly Hills Cop, I want you to
- 20:09tell me if these are real or fake Beverly Hills movies.
- 20:12OK, yes. We've got Beverly Hills vamp.
- 20:18Beverly Hills vamp? I'm going to presume that's
- 20:21about a vampire that's in Beverly Hills.
- 20:23I think it's a fun concept, yes. It is real.
- 20:26Who starred in it? No one.
- 20:28No one. OK, Yeah.
- 20:31Beverly Hills, Chihuahua. Yes.
- 20:35Correct. Yeah, Reese Witherspoon.
- 20:37Reese Witherspoon playing the Chihuahua.
- 20:38Versatile. I don't it might be animated, I
- 20:41don't know. I remember being on a bus in
- 20:43South America once though and they played Beverly Hills
- 20:45Chihuahua too. Oh, I've got a sequel.
- 20:47OK, Yeah. Beverly Hills Ninja.
- 20:52No. False.
- 20:53It's true. Chris Farley and Beverly Hills,
- 20:57Madam. Now that's something I want to
- 21:00watch. I'm going to say that's not
- 21:02true. It's also true they're all real.
- 21:04And that one stars Faye Dunaway. What?
- 21:07What? There's a Faye Dunaway film
- 21:10called Beverly Hills Madam. She plays a high end Madam in
- 21:13Beverly Hills. It's a made for TV movie from
- 21:151986 Next. Four women, each with a dream,
- 21:19trapped by one who controls it all.
- 21:21That's why I'm. So successful.
- 21:23Faye Dunaway is the Beverly Hills Madam next.
- 21:26You said you're a little trickster, aren't you?
- 21:28Yeah. They're all real.
- 21:29They're all real. What do you like?
- 21:31Should we get into the plot? Let's this movie.
- 21:36The plot? The plot?
- 21:38Do you want the real plot or the the actual plot?
- 21:41Oh, because the actual plot is very simple.
- 21:44Yeah, yeah. Have you ever?
- 21:47Heard hey women don't have any self respect.
- 21:50Blah blah blah girl power feminism.
- 21:54Do you know what I mean? Full stop.
- 21:57That's why. We started this podcast, isn't
- 21:59it? What I what I will say is like,
- 22:01I struggled with this movie and we'll get into it.
- 22:03But like I did struggle first time I watched it, I like zoned
- 22:07out. So I stopped watching it.
- 22:08So I had to rewatch it. Yeah, I have thoughts about this
- 22:11plot per se. You because you you texted me
- 22:16and said like meh or something like that.
- 22:19From the get go. Yeah.
- 22:20And because we had just done striptease, which was a bit of a
- 22:23slog, and we had just done mannequin, which was a bit of a
- 22:26slog. I was like, OK, I need to go
- 22:29into this with a positive attitude.
- 22:31I need to have fun. So I, I basically went to him
- 22:34with incredibly low expectations and I was like just trying to
- 22:38like it, OK? Yeah.
- 22:40And that helped. OK, Yeah.
- 22:41And I had a nice time. Yeah, and I think I, I have a
- 22:44similar feeling on my rewatch. I kind of went more in and yeah,
- 22:50there's a slightly more positive outlook.
- 22:52Yeah, I saw a review on Letterbox that said I promise
- 22:56you'll like this movie if you promise to only watch it using
- 22:59one brain cell. I think that kind of sums it up.
- 23:02But let's get into this plot so we've got a nice cartoony intro.
- 23:05Which used to be a camp clue and it's actually it's a red flag
- 23:09for me now. As soon as I saw that, I was
- 23:12like, oh, here we go. I like plot.
- 23:15I like to. Stand by the Ren and Stimpy
- 23:17animators, which I thought was quite cool.
- 23:19Yeah, that looks great. So then we go to the Wilderness
- 23:22Girls Troop HQ. Yes.
- 23:25And we meet all the leaders and they're reviewing the Beverly
- 23:29Hills Troop. This is like.
- 23:32High stakes, High stakes. Yeah, high stakes set up those.
- 23:34Girls have not sold any cookies and they have not earned any
- 23:37badges and they're. Like they're down to like 6-7
- 23:40members or something like that. Yeah, yeah.
- 23:42And they're like, we should scrap them.
- 23:44But the the nice boss lady is like, no, we're going to give
- 23:47them one last try. And we've had an application for
- 23:50a new troop leader. And then we get cut back and
- 23:53forth to Phyllis Kniffler's application.
- 23:56And we meet Phyllis Kniffler. And to be fair, excited, when I
- 24:01first saw this, I was like, OK, I'm on board.
- 24:04So she's listed as her as her like qualifications that she's
- 24:08community minded and we get a cut of her shopping and
- 24:12gossiping. Who's she gossiping with there?
- 24:15Stephanie Beecham? Now Stephanie Beecham looks
- 24:19fucking sensational. She looks so good.
- 24:21She has made Joan Collins in Dynasty not look 80s glitzy glam
- 24:26enough like it is unbelievable levels of like Beverly Hills
- 24:33Madam. Yeah, it's so Beverly Hills,
- 24:35Madam. It's like it's kind of Barbara
- 24:38Dixon in like, I know I'm so well, like the amount of
- 24:42Hairspray that this woman has. Used the hair isn't that full
- 24:45either, but no, no, exactly. And you can see directly through
- 24:48it. There's not a wig, there's not a
- 24:50piece. It's dry.
- 24:51It is going to it's like candy floss.
- 24:53It's going to break off. She has a foot off her head in
- 24:56all directions. And I love it because it's like
- 24:58like Hollywood pre, pre crazy surgery.
- 25:02So she looks older, but she's got like the nails, she's got
- 25:05the glam on. And I'm just like.
- 25:07Who is she? Stephanie Beech, Yeah, she, she
- 25:10was in Dynasty. Yeah.
- 25:12She's just like a British posh. She was.
- 25:14She was a British posh actress. They're like, we need another
- 25:17John Collins. Do we have?
- 25:18One yeah, she's buried that yeah yeah.
- 25:21And sort of has played lots of trashy TV movies and stuff in.
- 25:24Her, I recognized her and like, I was like, I think, yeah,
- 25:27maybe. I will say she's criminally
- 25:30underused in this movie, yes, because she.
- 25:34It's kind of a cameo. Really.
- 25:35But whenever she appears, it's just.
- 25:37Because she's playing like a romance novel writer, which is
- 25:41great. I think I have no point to it.
- 25:43And then she looks cool. She's she's fun from the get go.
- 25:46Isn't she old Shelly? Yeah, yeah, yeah, she looks
- 25:49stunning. She's got amazing hair and she.
- 25:52Yeah, we see her. Just cut to her, cut to her, cut
- 25:56to her. She's in a different fabulous
- 25:57outfit each time. And it's like drag levels about
- 26:00Oh my God, it's like crazy 80s isn't it nuts?
- 26:03It's. No woman ever has ever actually
- 26:07looked like this. It's very Adina, absolutely.
- 26:09Fabulous. Yeah, Yeah.
- 26:11With like a 80s Beverly Hills twist because like, Adina would
- 26:14sometimes go sportswear, wouldn't she?
- 26:15Yeah. But yeah, it's like.
- 26:17Like a big pirate hat. Yeah, yeah.
- 26:19Everything's with with Shelly, with Phyllis.
- 26:21Everything's structured, everything's cinched.
- 26:23Everything's got a bustier, like a train, A glove.
- 26:28Yeah, a hat. There was always a hat.
- 26:31Everything matches. It's great.
- 26:33I'd say like every piece of clothing in this movie is
- 26:37objectively ugly and yet wonderful.
- 26:40Yes, it's maximalism, isn't it? Yeah, but they are so wonderful.
- 26:44Each thing should be archived in a costume museum.
- 26:47Absolutely. They are like, yeah, I was
- 26:50watching it just thinking like any of those could be like a
- 26:52Drag Race runway, though. Totally.
- 26:54I mean, they're all yeah, they're, they all look like that
- 26:57one drag queen, you know, in LA who's like, hasn't been on Drag
- 27:00Race, but like always turns out the look.
- 27:03Yeah, but it's like a bit kind of delta work style of drag and
- 27:06it's it's great. Yeah.
- 27:07It's love it. Yeah.
- 27:08So it's from the get go, I'm like OK, it's ticking my boxes.
- 27:12Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding. I'm like, we're going to be in
- 27:14for an easy ride with this. Yep.
- 27:17And Shelley Long is playing basically your classic Beverly
- 27:20Hills bimbo, I guess. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:23She's a socialite. She's rich.
- 27:25She's materialistic. She's got Karen's made from Will
- 27:28and Grace before Karen has her. Yes, I've got a fact about that.
- 27:32That actress is Shelley Morrison.
- 27:35She plays Rosario on Will and Grace, and she plays a maid
- 27:38called Rosa. In this movie, she's portrayed a
- 27:41maid or housekeeper on 32 separate occasions.
- 27:44Wow. Isn't that?
- 27:47I mean, I presume she's probably made an OK living out of her as
- 27:51an actress, but that's fucking terrible.
- 27:53Yeah, she's she's dead now, but she had actually.
- 27:57It's even sadder. Yeah, she had actually just
- 27:59informed her agent not to offer her any more made parts when the
- 28:02call came for willing grace, and then that's the one that made
- 28:04her famous. Yeah, I mean, at least in
- 28:08willing Grace, she had a bit of. Power, but some bite.
- 28:11Fucking hell yeah. And it's and I would say that
- 28:14she's, you know, well, she's just she's just like the most
- 28:17generic maid ever in this, isn't she?
- 28:21I hate these portrayals in like Hollywood with any kind of maid
- 28:25because they always these kind of comedies always just like
- 28:28have them just fully doting and like living off of their life
- 28:33and their dramas and like absolutely no personality or
- 28:36life themselves. It's like.
- 28:38The only thing we get from her, which I did like, was when's
- 28:42Rosa back? And then she's like, oh, she's
- 28:46in Mexico. Her grandmother died.
- 28:47And then the kid goes again. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:50So that was the one sense you get that she's like, fuck this
- 28:53woman. She's playing, but, yeah.
- 28:54But then at the same time, you've got her like, there's
- 28:57basically this woman is having, what's her name, Shelley Long's
- 29:00character again, What is it? Phyllis Kniffler.
- 29:02Phyllis, there we go. She's having like a shit time,
- 29:05isn't she? Because her husband is going to
- 29:09divorce her and she's sort of going through that.
- 29:11And then Rosa is getting upset because they're arguing and it's
- 29:14for fuck's sake. As if she'd care.
- 29:16Yeah, exactly. Yeah, there was an opportunity
- 29:18to make that made like Sassy, like like Rosario and Will and
- 29:24Grace. But they just decided no.
- 29:26Yeah, they're like, no, she'll be, she'll be fawning.
- 29:30That's so upsetting. Phyllis Neffler is getting
- 29:34divorced from her husband Freddie.
- 29:36They've got a daughter. And why are they divorcing?
- 29:41Well, it's because he's a workaholic and she spends too
- 29:44much money. They're just, there's like a
- 29:46divide. Yeah, guys, this is what
- 29:48happens. They've been together for a long
- 29:50enough period of time and this is just a divide happening.
- 29:52I think they're divorcing because yeah, the the stated
- 29:55reason seems to be that she's she shops too much.
- 29:58Yeah. And then when she calls him out
- 30:01for being a workaholic and maybe not present in the relationship,
- 30:05he says that she had so much potential, so much greatness.
- 30:08She was she was such a creative and then she basically just
- 30:12wasted it on going shopping. So he's obviously has pretty low
- 30:16opinions of his wife and. Yeah.
- 30:19Sucks. He sucks, but then also I'm just
- 30:22like, it's just like, oh, privilege, Beverly Hills people
- 30:26problems. It's like, oh wow, OK.
- 30:28Yeah, totally. But I'm still in.
- 30:30I'm still in at this point because I'm like, I think I know
- 30:33what's happening. I know where this is going.
- 30:36And I'm like, I've seen this kind of movie many times.
- 30:38So yeah, I'm in. I'm in.
- 30:40I'm still locked in. This is going to be a camp
- 30:42classic. Yeah, Phyllis, a bit more about
- 30:45her, I guess. She's kind of frivolous.
- 30:47Apparently, she loses interest in things quite quickly, but she
- 30:49has said that she'll become the troop leader for her daughter
- 30:52because she wants to have, like, bonding time with her daughter
- 30:56in light of the divorce. Then we meet all the kids in the
- 30:59troop. Yeah, I liked this.
- 31:02There's like 8 kids. They're all like different rich
- 31:05kid archetypes from Beverly Hills.
- 31:08And they're like, we kind of meet them one by one.
- 31:09It seems like it should be a lot, but they they do a good job
- 31:12of like kind of giving all of these kids a different little
- 31:15little quirk story, whatever. Each one's like a different
- 31:18Spice Girl. Yeah, that's exactly right.
- 31:20Yeah. They've all got very good 90s
- 31:22hair, yeah. Lots of very side sweep
- 31:24blowouts. A lot of side ponies.
- 31:26Side ponies. This is where I thought I knew
- 31:30what was happening because obviously we meet some of them,
- 31:32don't we? And then one of the one of the
- 31:34families that we meet, there's like a director guy who's a bit
- 31:38like rough and rugged driving and he's talking about these big
- 31:41ideas he's got for a film and like the daughters in the back
- 31:44being like, dad, dad, you're crazy.
- 31:46You're cougar. And I was just like, ah, there's
- 31:49someone that's different to old Phyllis.
- 31:52Ah, that's going to be the love interest.
- 31:55That's what's going to happen. Things are going to happen here.
- 31:58Things are going to, she's going to have a downfall.
- 32:00She's going to like rough and ready it.
- 32:02She's going to meet the director.
- 32:03He's going to like unleash creativity in them.
- 32:06They're going to end up together.
- 32:07And I was like, yeah, OK, this is what's happening.
- 32:10You're giving this movie way too much no that.
- 32:12Doesn't happen. Doesn't.
- 32:13It. But I thought he was the plant.
- 32:15I was like, there's the love interest, there's the new
- 32:17exciting guy, the one that's going to kind of shake her out
- 32:20of this like mold, shake her out of this like materialistic
- 32:23privilege is going to kind of get to the root.
- 32:25So I was kind of, it's a bit like overboard with.
- 32:27Golden Dawn. Yeah.
- 32:29Oh, right. That's what I was, sort of, no.
- 32:32No shout out to like the racist cop scene.
- 32:36Oh, straight away a cab. Yeah, yeah, it's interesting.
- 32:39Like there's a black family who are in the troupe and they're
- 32:44all rich, but they get pulled over and the movie is kind of
- 32:47making a point to be like, these guys are getting pulled over
- 32:50because they're black and then they kind of don't, you know who
- 32:53I am out of their way, out of the situation.
- 32:56Well, the kids does. The kid does, yeah.
- 32:58I thought it was kind of interesting to, like, show that.
- 33:00I don't, I don't know if the movie was trying to make a point
- 33:03or not. But if I don't know if the movie
- 33:05was trying to be like, isn't it funny?
- 33:07I don't know. Yeah, And it's like, I don't
- 33:09know, I kind of loved, hated the little girl, like, just because
- 33:14she's like super sassy, but in a very like stereotypical super
- 33:19sassy black girl way. But she's kind of is still
- 33:22amazing. She's just like, now daddy,
- 33:24shake this man's hand and let him be on his way.
- 33:28And I'm like, you're performing the fuck out of this young lady.
- 33:31But I'm like, so yeah, I kind of was like, OK.
- 33:33Yeah. And then that's where we meet
- 33:36Stephanie Beach. Him again.
- 33:37Yeah. And so she's asking for advice
- 33:41from a kid about how to, like, help her steaming.
- 33:44Yeah, she's like, what? His pulsating.
- 33:46Manhood rising into a frenzy and then she's like, ah, yes, but
- 33:51with a slight tweak, rising into a tulsating frenzy.
- 33:55And again I'm like, I'm like, yes, this.
- 33:57I'm like, what are we watching? Yeah, sex positive.
- 34:01And again, doesn't the kid suggest the word manhood?
- 34:03Yeah, the kid comes up with the line.
- 34:05She just adds sating to it. So again, so again.
- 34:08But I am a bit like, who was this film for?
- 34:12It's an adult comedy then. Yeah.
- 34:14And then I don't think it is. It's very mannequin in that way.
- 34:17Yes, yeah, you're so right. I had the same note.
- 34:20Like what? Who is this movie for?
- 34:22Is it a kids movie? It's hard to tell.
- 34:23Yeah, at this stage, especially hard to tell.
- 34:26Pulsating manhood. So then she's hosting.
- 34:29She's basically hosting a little get together for all of these
- 34:31rich kids. She's got caviar and stuff.
- 34:33This outfit is very like typical of her.
- 34:36She looks like an Easter basket. Yes, she does.
- 34:42Pennies, feathers, flowers, hat. Yeah.
- 34:46And she's all, she's all down for, like leading the troop,
- 34:50isn't she? But then this is where we find
- 34:51out that the kids, no one believes in them.
- 34:55No one believes in them. They're, they're the underdogs,
- 34:58these rich kids, cow, you know, like the Mighty Ducks or we've
- 35:06seen the story before of the underdog kids.
- 35:09Well, these ones. Are.
- 35:10Yeah, these ones are rich. Yeah, they are like, they are
- 35:14super, super rich. Like, this is like, the ultimate
- 35:17flaw of this is like that we're meant to feel sorry for these,
- 35:21like, incredibly privileged kids.
- 35:23Yeah, yeah, it's it's a bizarre choice.
- 35:26And The thing is, it's like their problems aren't even that.
- 35:30Like when they do have a problem, like there's one
- 35:32problem, there's one kid that her dad is like a jobbing actor.
- 35:36So she doesn't quite have the money that the others have, but.
- 35:39Yeah, they had money, but he's lost it all kind of vibes.
- 35:41He's a struggling being actor now.
- 35:43But like it's, you know, she can't afford something, so it's
- 35:45like someone's just like I'll pay for.
- 35:47It Yeah. What are the other arcs for the
- 35:48rest of the kids? Well, the they.
- 35:51Do all have like a tiny 1? Yeah, but that it's microscopic.
- 35:55Yeah. Anyway, we're meant to feel bad
- 35:59for these children. I mean, kids have problems,
- 36:01sure. But yeah, it is an odd, it's an
- 36:05odd ploy for sympathy. As we.
- 36:08Watch them all drive up in like incredibly fancy sports cars or
- 36:12literal limousine. You know when you see like,
- 36:15classic cars doing like the drives and like people are
- 36:17standing there like looking at how amazing the cars are, it's
- 36:20very MTV Cribs. But yeah, no one believes in
- 36:23them. Their troop leaders keep
- 36:24leaving. They don't even have their
- 36:26Wilderness Girl uniforms because no one's even bothered to take
- 36:29them shopping for. That, but also they don't
- 36:31believe in uniforms because they're that fucking like, yeah,
- 36:34privilege. They argue everything.
- 36:36So they're like, it's, you know, going to stop us from losing our
- 36:38identity. That's like me at the flare
- 36:41opening when I wouldn't put on my wristband.
- 36:44Yeah, you were. Refusing to do that.
- 36:46Didn't go with my outfit. So she takes them to get their
- 36:52troop uniforms, and Phyllis isn't happy because it's ugly.
- 36:56Oh, it's it's ugly, cocky, the material is terrible, the fits
- 36:59really bad. So she takes her uniform to her
- 37:02gay friend in. A panic running.
- 37:03Yeah, quite fun. And next we see she's at the
- 37:10troop leader meeting and she's had her look tailored.
- 37:13She's got a matching Cape. It's a fantastic look.
- 37:17Yeah, it looks. Great.
- 37:18Like, there's been some real attention to that outfit.
- 37:20Like, she looks spectacular. But also, I love it.
- 37:23She's late to this thing. She's.
- 37:25She's just started. She enters smoking.
- 37:28And then she literally as the person speaking, is like,
- 37:31talking over them and like getting in the way.
- 37:34And she wonders why they don't like her.
- 37:35Yeah. Yeah, she's already falling
- 37:40afoul of Velda Plunder, who is one of the other troop leaders
- 37:44now. Velda.
- 37:46She's bold, like coated. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:50Yeah, she's like real classic 80s villain.
- 37:54Yeah, and like, played by like a faceless actor.
- 37:57Like I don't know what she's been in before.
- 38:00She quit after this and moved on.
- 38:02No, she became a director and she's been working ever since.
- 38:05Oh yeah, fair play to her. Yeah, can't.
- 38:07Remember her name? So sorry to that woman, but but
- 38:10she's yeah, like she's kind of like the evil principal in like
- 38:15the you know how there was principals always hate kids.
- 38:18You're like, why are you this in this job?
- 38:21It's like she's also, yeah, she's a troop leader.
- 38:23She hates children, she hates privilege.
- 38:26She's ex army. She's tough as nails.
- 38:29She's got a real fucking chip on her shoulder.
- 38:31She runs that troop like it's the Marines.
- 38:34Which is how you should run a troop.
- 38:37They go on their first camp out unless you've got something
- 38:40between. Well, it well is this where we
- 38:44well we get a bit of a glimpse into home life as well for
- 38:47Phyllis? Yes.
- 38:48So, yeah, so the divorce storyline, which is actually the
- 38:53key storyline of this film, it's not actually about kids.
- 38:57It's not about Beverly Hills. It's not about, you know,
- 39:01wilderness brownies. No, it's about divorce, Yeah.
- 39:04And the impact of divorce. So and while she is with her
- 39:07daughter, she she looks out the window and notices that is a
- 39:11mighty fine piece of ass heading to the guest house, which is
- 39:15where he's living. Yeah, for that.
- 39:17He's seeing Lisa, who is hot, younger and basically, you know,
- 39:23he's having his midlife crisis and fucking her.
- 39:25So we're seeing her react to that.
- 39:27And it's basically like he's a shit, but he's a cute shit.
- 39:30She's, she's disgusting with her daughter.
- 39:33And essentially they're saying he's going through a phase at
- 39:35the moment. And that is how they've decided
- 39:37to land on this storyline, isn't it?
- 39:39It's like dad is just going off the rails.
- 39:42It's what happens and he's going through a phase.
- 39:46I hate men. I do like her with the
- 39:50binoculars at the window and she does like a comedy fall off the
- 39:53balcony. I liked it.
- 39:55Yeah, I liked it. But yeah.
- 39:57And again, like blame, that's the first thing we should do is
- 40:00blame the other woman. Oh my God.
- 40:02Yeah, yeah, we should belittle her fake tits.
- 40:06Yeah, all of that happens. I.
- 40:08Mean. That's just like the rules of
- 40:10feminism. I love the other woman though.
- 40:12Even though she's just going into a relationship with a man
- 40:16that's getting a divorce. So obviously she's the villain
- 40:18of this storyline and not him. She's great though.
- 40:24She's. Great.
- 40:25She does. Brilliant.
- 40:25Yeah. And she's she's just a punch bag
- 40:27for the entire movie. Totally, she's giving what's her
- 40:31face from mannequin. Oh, Roxy.
- 40:33She's giving Roxy. Yeah, very Roxy.
- 40:36OK, then we've got the first camp out, so Phyllis takes the
- 40:40girls camping. It's everything's kind of done
- 40:43for them. The girls don't really know what
- 40:44they're doing. Why are we here?
- 40:46They're reading magazines and then it starts to rain.
- 40:49And so they panic and go to the Beverly Hills Hotel.
- 40:54Yeah, And I mean, I guess I'll give it.
- 40:56I'll give it credit here. This is where you're seeing that
- 40:59Shelly is, like a good comedy actress, like, really physically
- 41:03throwing herself into it. Like when she's wearing the
- 41:05white fur and it's raining and she's trying to save the fondue,
- 41:08She's like, covered in mud. She, like, resembles a wet dog
- 41:11by the end of it. And you're like, wow, actually,
- 41:13she's skilled at this. Yes.
- 41:15So she takes them to the hotel. They have like a cute time
- 41:19together, but Velda's not happy about this and she's like, you
- 41:23need to quit. You're not cut out for this.
- 41:25You can't just take them to the hotel.
- 41:26She hates these rich bitches, basically.
- 41:31But Phyllis is undeterred. And she's going to get these
- 41:36girls some merit badges, and she comes up.
- 41:39And she just wants to buy them, doesn't.
- 41:41She wants to buy them. Where do I buy those?
- 41:45She's going to get those girls merit badges.
- 41:47So she customizes her own and takes.
- 41:49And then we get a montage of the girls earning merit badges for
- 41:52things like jewelry appraisal, like styling, learning how to do
- 42:01the twist. Like there's a dance, there's
- 42:03like a. Whole montage and then they all
- 42:05get like a record amount of badges, don't they?
- 42:08It's like, this is where I started getting a bit bored.
- 42:11I wrote down a time code. I think it was 43 minutes in,
- 42:1643.21 seconds in. And it was the same with the
- 42:20first time around. I was watching.
- 42:21I was like, I am just bored. I want the tropes.
- 42:25Where are the tropes? She should not be continuing
- 42:28being high flying in these comedies.
- 42:31What would have happened by now is she would have been so good
- 42:35at like doing them. It's like, oh, you've done so
- 42:37great, we're sending you to these girls and this is where
- 42:41you need to go or something like that, which would basically
- 42:44strip her of all of her status. Yeah, or she loses all her money
- 42:49and so she has to. Now we're seeing her without any
- 42:51means. And how is she going to cope
- 42:53with that? Just like having to deal with
- 42:55the other side, like, and that's normally what would happen in
- 42:58these films. And I think that's something I
- 43:00kind of enjoy. It's like just a trope you feel
- 43:04with do you know what I mean? And it's, and then it's just
- 43:06sort of oh, how does the like super privileged, super like
- 43:10vacuous woman deal in the real world with real kids that aren't
- 43:13going to be like hanging off her every word and like, and they
- 43:17just don't do that. No.
- 43:19And so therefore, it's it's a bit like that review said that
- 43:21the thing I get why it's just a bit one note because it's
- 43:24already one note. But there's like, what is the
- 43:27jeopardy? The jeopardy of this film is
- 43:29what's going on with her husband.
- 43:32That's it. Who cares?
- 43:34I'm sorry, I think it's whether or not they're going to be able
- 43:36to sell 1000. Cookies.
- 43:37Oh, OK, sorry. That is a high stakes plot
- 43:40point. Because then we also get we get
- 43:42like another bit where they go back and it's with Phyllis and
- 43:46her daughter and another shot of Lisa going in a car and it's
- 43:51like, I guess he's divorcing both of us.
- 43:57It's like the whole the whole heart of these young women and
- 44:00these women that she's leading is just the sadness of dads
- 44:03leaving us. Yeah, yeah.
- 44:05It's like one of those early, well, it's not even that it's
- 44:0889. Like, there's been a lot of
- 44:10media about divorce by this point, but yeah, it doesn't
- 44:13quite, it hasn't quite figured out like there could be a
- 44:16feminist angle to all of this. Well, this is something I when I
- 44:20was struggling at the boredom point about like is this camp?
- 44:22I like you know, asked googled it like to try and say like an
- 44:26argument and then like some AI answer came saying it was it was
- 44:31praised for its feminist values. I was like what the fuck are the
- 44:36feminist values? I've got thoughts about that.
- 44:38OK, Yeah, we'll get there. We'll get there.
- 44:40We'll get to it. But yeah, it's an interesting
- 44:42era, isn't it, for divorce. I feel like there were lots of,
- 44:44like, these kind of films in the 80s and early 90s where like,
- 44:48young kids as part of their storyline.
- 44:50It's like, how do we save mum and dad's marriage?
- 44:53It's like, listen up, kids. Divorce is a good thing.
- 44:56Yeah. Where did where?
- 44:58Did everyone realize that actually divorce is the best
- 45:01option? Well, he says it in this movie,
- 45:03doesn't he? He's like, And you'll be a lot
- 45:05less neurotic if you've got happily divorced parents instead
- 45:08of unhappily married ones. Which is actually true.
- 45:11Yeah, it is actually true. Yeah.
- 45:14Yeah. I mean, the rest of the plot
- 45:15does just progress how you think.
- 45:16The girls are kind of presented with obstacles.
- 45:18Will they overcome them or will they not?
- 45:20The big one though, as you just said though, is they need to
- 45:24sell. Well, it's not Girl Scouts,
- 45:26because Girl Scouts did did not want to align themselves with
- 45:29this movie. The Wilderness Girl cookies.
- 45:32So in order to attend the annual Wilderness girl Jamboree for
- 45:36plot reasons, they have to sell 1000 boxes of cookies.
- 45:41So it's just like, what plot reason can there be to make this
- 45:44other plot thing happen? Who cares?
- 45:47But they, I mean, they're struggling to sell the cookies.
- 45:50Well, I mean, they're not really, are they?
- 45:51Because Stephanie Beecham, when she does pipe head, she's
- 45:53literally like, why don't we just buy all of the cookie
- 45:56boxes, which is just what they could do.
- 45:58Yeah. It's like, she's like, why are
- 46:01we doing this? Stephanie Beecham is us.
- 46:03Yeah. She's like, why are we going
- 46:05through all of this? Like we could literally just buy
- 46:07them all now and then we can just have a lovely evening.
- 46:11No, instead they do a cookie song on the street which I'm
- 46:17rodeo Dr. This. Is what I will say I started to
- 46:19warm up again to the film when I really.
- 46:21Yeah, because it reminded me of which came after Sister Act 2,
- 46:24back in the habit. When they do, they're like big.
- 46:27They're singing on the streets, trying to make money and stuff.
- 46:38They might be the first sister act.
- 46:39Oh. No.
- 46:41And out around the world. And she does her James Brown and
- 46:44they get the community in and they're performing on the stage.
- 46:47But no. So we have this like young, the
- 46:49young firecracker black girl, Yeah, in a very cheap Tina
- 46:52Turner wig. And they're singing the cookie
- 46:54song and. The crowd is going wild.
- 46:57And The thing is, they've obviously been able to shut down
- 46:59Rodeo Dr. or wherever it is because they've got that much
- 47:01fucking money. And again, the whole setup of
- 47:04putting that on would have been more than what the cookies cost.
- 47:06But it doesn't matter. No, they will say selling
- 47:09cigarettes. They're not just selling
- 47:10cookies. They go around restaurants,
- 47:12they're selling cookies. Cigarettes, they're selling.
- 47:14I was like, that's quite. Calm.
- 47:15That's funny. Phyllis always has a cigarette,
- 47:18which I love. In a holder.
- 47:20You don't get that anymore. And then Phyllis hosts a big
- 47:24star-studded gala and fashion show.
- 47:27And this is where they sell 4000 boxes of cookies.
- 47:30Because I know, listener, you're wondering how many cookies?
- 47:32They and again, putting on that fucking fashion show.
- 47:35I mean the amount of money that has been spent on this sanity
- 47:38project. Cookies.
- 47:40Yeah, it's. Like.
- 47:43There's a lot of 80s celeb cameos here, but yeah, they've
- 47:47sold enough cookies to qualify for the Jamboree.
- 47:49Thank God I. Know because it's you were
- 47:52worried a side note to the fashion show.
- 47:54I was kind of into it. I don't think I've really seen
- 47:57like khaki and silver lame together when I was like, that's
- 48:01quite maybe that's like a forward fashion forward trend
- 48:03alert. Yeah, the gold Lemay Cape is
- 48:06very nice. Yeah, Yeah.
- 48:08And then later in that night, she's got the like blue and pink
- 48:12corset top, which kind of looks like the.
- 48:15Trans flag. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:17It's nice. She does another fall.
- 48:19She falls into a fountain. She this woman falls a lot.
- 48:24She's firing herself into it. But yeah, she does a big a big
- 48:26gala because they've sold over 4000 things.
- 48:29So they're another big party to celebrate handing over, excuse
- 48:33me, handing over the check. Oh yeah, I'm mashing up the 2
- 48:37girls. They basically they've smashed
- 48:39all wilderness girl records ever.
- 48:41How have they done that? Meanwhile the other fucking
- 48:45wilderness girls are out there doing it the real way, door to
- 48:48door. Yeah, they might be cheating.
- 48:50They might be like going on different people's turfs and
- 48:53territories, you know, sorry, but they are out there hustling
- 48:57and grinding. Meanwhile, the Beverly Hills
- 49:02troops, they are absolutely backed by this endless cash
- 49:06flow, money making machine. Of course they're going to sell
- 49:09everything. This is privilege at its finest,
- 49:12people. Yeah, I don't.
- 49:14I'm not buying the They overcame adversity and use their creative
- 49:19ingenuity and like gumption to really do something special.
- 49:23No, they've just been handed it on a plate.
- 49:25And then even even at this. And meanwhile as well, the
- 49:29baddie has sent one of her sidekicks to, like, spy on them,
- 49:32hasn't she? But she's even getting seduced
- 49:34by the Beverly Hills lifestyle. Why wouldn't you?
- 49:36Why wouldn't you want to just be her friend?
- 49:38Yeah. And the bit I did like with
- 49:39that, with those Stephanie Beecham, like she's getting,
- 49:44she's getting like ideas for her next saucy escapade, doesn't
- 49:47she? She's got a dictaphone out.
- 49:48Oh, yeah. It's like it looks like a good
- 49:50party, but really it's a black tie jungle and.
- 49:54Oh, I wrote. I'm like why does it say black
- 49:56tie jungle in my? Yeah, that's what she so she's
- 49:58like. And again, I'm like, I want to
- 50:00go to her story. Yeah, because I want to see her
- 50:03struggles to write her next erotic thriller.
- 50:05Because did you see what one of her books was called Malibu
- 50:08Bitch when she did her signing? And I'm like, why are we not
- 50:12focusing on Stephanie? Let me beat him in this movie.
- 50:14I just want to know. I don't care about these fucking
- 50:16Girl Scouts. Get me to her.
- 50:19She's out there putting in the research, fucking around Beverly
- 50:22Hills and writing all of these books.
- 50:24A. Malibu bitch, it's so good.
- 50:28But if you can't, if you can't tell already, essentially what
- 50:31is happening now is a lot of yadda yadda yadda yadda yadda
- 50:34yadda. Like we are like out yadda ring
- 50:37ourselves now. Something I did find funny
- 50:39though. So all of this shit goes on, but
- 50:42essentially what is happening is we are getting Phyllis back with
- 50:45Fred, her husband, and they're having a heart to heart at the
- 50:48party. And I'm like, he's gay here
- 50:51because he's like, there's something different about you.
- 50:54I don't know. There's something a bit softer.
- 50:56And I'm like, is he referring to her softer beat?
- 50:58Because she's got like a little, you know, baby blue eyeshadow.
- 51:01She's like looking a lot less harsh.
- 51:03And I'm like, he's just commenting on her makeup while
- 51:06she's in the trans flag dress. He's like, yeah, he's proud of
- 51:13her because he can see that. Like, she's really committing to
- 51:15something. She's working hard.
- 51:17And then she's coming alive with that.
- 51:18She's like, Oh my God, it's happening.
- 51:20And he's like, I want, you know, there's something I wanted to
- 51:22talk to you about. Yeah, and she thinks they're
- 51:23going to get back together. And he says he wants joint
- 51:26custody of their daughter. Oh my God.
- 51:29Bombshell. Yeah, that's when she falls on
- 51:31the fountain. Yeah, it's very Carrie Bradshaw,
- 51:34very Sex in the City. Like, oh, I've something
- 51:36embarrassing has happened to me, and then I fall.
- 51:42You just don't get it. So, yeah.
- 51:45So that that's like a key plot point, yeah.
- 51:48She then goes on a Bender with Evion water.
- 51:51It's hard to imagine a time when Evion was considered that fancy.
- 51:56Do you know what I mean? It's.
- 52:00Like, yeah, like she's got a crate of evion and it's like,
- 52:04right. Yeah, there's like 30 empty
- 52:06bottles of Evion lying around her bedroom.
- 52:08Did you find that funny? Not really, no.
- 52:10Because I'm like, that's the problem with it, isn't it?
- 52:12Because it's like, and I think they quote someone like like
- 52:15pass me another bottle and it's like, that's a quote from a
- 52:17film. I can't remember what the quote
- 52:19is, but it's just. Didn't quite work, but it's also
- 52:22like it's. So basically if you've not
- 52:23watched it, she's rather than drinking alcohol, she's just
- 52:27there's empty everyone bottles all over her bedroom.
- 52:29She's she's, you know, she's absolutely freaking out and
- 52:32she's having a meltdown. She's drinking everyone.
- 52:34But like, yeah, it's just like. It's everyone.
- 52:38It's kind of, it's like, OK, if you think about it as a kids
- 52:41movie, like that's a funny joke for a kids movie, but you're is
- 52:44this a kids movie? That's the thing that I don't
- 52:46really understand. Velda's still bullying her.
- 52:49This is also why she's gone on this Bender because she's
- 52:53Velda's like, you should quit. You suck.
- 52:56I would so be here for those two had like a lesbian relationship.
- 53:00Imagine that's how this movie ended.
- 53:01Because it's like power play sex games, isn't it really?
- 53:05Because basically what's happened is you've got your bull
- 53:07dyke leader, she's in charge, runs the show, tight ship.
- 53:12Then we've got this like wild, naughty, privileged woman
- 53:15coming. Hello, Princess.
- 53:17Yeah, like shaking things up and she doesn't like it, but at the
- 53:19same time she's excited by the way she's pushing her buttons.
- 53:23Yeah, it's not that, though. That's how I would recast it and
- 53:27remake it that. Would be so much better because
- 53:31you're about to find out how this ends.
- 53:33So we cut to the like final set piece.
- 53:35We're at the Jamboree, the annual Jamboree, and it's like
- 53:37an outdoor cross country challenge for all of the girls.
- 53:43Yeah, orienteering. Yeah.
- 53:44The evil Red Feather Troop. They trick Troop Beverly Hills,
- 53:50misdirecting them into a snake infested swamp.
- 53:53Well, snake infested, there's a snake.
- 53:55A snake. Luckily A skunk scares them into
- 53:59running through a shortcut and they end up qualifying.
- 54:01First backfires on the red feathers.
- 54:04Then the next day Velda cheats again.
- 54:09They cross a rope bridge and then she cuts it behind her so
- 54:11that Troop Beverly Hills can't get across and so.
- 54:16Oh, and then and then Velda tries to take them on a shortcut
- 54:19and ends up falling and breaking her ankle.
- 54:21Yeah, and then her daughter leaves her.
- 54:24But she would do. You'd just be like, oh, fuck
- 54:25you, wouldn't you? We're gonna win.
- 54:27Yeah, So, yeah, because. And that's just really
- 54:30demonstrating, like, how they don't really have any team
- 54:32spirit or camaraderie, do they? They're just, like, willing to
- 54:34abandon their own mother in the woods with a broken ankle.
- 54:39But the broken bridge doesn't stop Troop Beverly Hills.
- 54:43Shelley gets the bridge repaired.
- 54:44She has to walk across a log. Yeah.
- 54:48So this is the big set piece of the movie.
- 54:50Everyone. The final like sort of final
- 54:53moment of the film is there's a log across a bit of a like.
- 54:57A ravine. Ravine and it's like she's
- 55:00scared of heights and they they call back to her falling out of
- 55:04a window earlier but like we really don't get that she's
- 55:06scared of heights but no, it's the big thing.
- 55:08She's scared of heights. Her daughter who's a gymnast
- 55:11wants to do it and is ready to take on the balance beam.
- 55:13She's like no, no, no, I'll do it and she's starting to walk
- 55:17over this this log and then it gets a bit scary.
- 55:20She nearly falls and then her daughter comes to rescue her
- 55:23daughter gets her foot stuck and then they basically just walk
- 55:27over. I don't even know why I'm
- 55:28dragging that out. They walk over a fucking log
- 55:30everyone. It's low stakes.
- 55:35They fix the bridge. They find Velda.
- 55:39And this is where this is where a line that I liked because
- 55:42they're like, should we help Velda or should we just win?
- 55:45And then because Phyllis has learnt about being a wilderness
- 55:48girl is actually about asking responsibly to the kids,
- 55:51etcetera. What should we do?
- 55:53So she offers up. Should we leave her hair to be
- 55:56toyed with? Lonely mounted men?
- 56:01All right, Phyllis. To be raped by Lonely Mountain
- 56:04it that would not be the first thing I would assume would be
- 56:07happening in this situation, by the way.
- 56:09Also the snakes, the mountain men of what?
- 56:12Beverly Hills of LA. But then they decide they're
- 56:18going to save her. Yes.
- 56:19So they drag her through the woods.
- 56:21The red feathers actually finish first, and they're like, woo, we
- 56:25won. But because they don't have a
- 56:28troop leader with them, they actually haven't finished.
- 56:31And so then here comes Troop Beverly Hills over the finish
- 56:35line, taking victory. The girls did it.
- 56:40I bet you didn't think they could Listeners.
- 56:42But more importantly. More importantly than that.
- 56:45Fred's there. Freddy's there and wow, he is so
- 56:50impressed with how much Phyllis has changed that he agrees to
- 56:54take her back. And of course, she's willingly
- 57:00open armed, like, oh, I'm so glad I've made you happy.
- 57:05I'm so glad I was able to change sufficiently for you.
- 57:08Yeah. And then that's it.
- 57:10The end. Yeah, I mean, I wrote down about
- 57:14halfway through like, she better not end up with this fucking
- 57:18man. Yeah, because there was a moment
- 57:21where she was like watching an advert of him and he, she's
- 57:25like, oh, he's such a shit, but he's a cute shit.
- 57:27Like this better not be setting up them getting back together.
- 57:33It's very disappointing. Very disappointing because,
- 57:36again, like, you know, I was saying about how desperate I was
- 57:39for her to, like, fall off her status and then not to be a big
- 57:42thruster. That didn't happen.
- 57:44But I was like, at least we can rely on the fact that she's
- 57:46going to meet someone else. And that's why I was like that
- 57:48director guy. It's going to be him.
- 57:50He's good looking. He's a bit different to her.
- 57:52She's going to find someone. Yeah, but no.
- 57:54I didn't need her to meet someone else and it hadn't
- 57:56occurred to me. The director thing I but I
- 57:58thought the story was going to be she finds her strength and
- 58:00independence. Yeah, and just.
- 58:02And and her own power and is like.
- 58:04So and you know, and then. He's all of.
- 58:05These rich bitch kids have learned well, what have they
- 58:08learned? They've learned nothing.
- 58:10Privilege wins. Money wins is what we've learned
- 58:13from the situation. Maybe a bit of sisterhood.
- 58:16Yeah, maybe a bit, yeah, But yeah.
- 58:19And so that's what they've learned.
- 58:21And in doing this as well, she's also learned I don't need him.
- 58:24And actually he's been holding me back.
- 58:27And if I'm going to shop, it's because I want to shop and it's
- 58:29I'm going to have a fabulous career and.
- 58:32Yeah, like I expected him to come crawling back and by that
- 58:36point for her to have been like, oh, actually fuck you.
- 58:39Yeah, you suck. That would have just been very
- 58:41satisfying and also predictable. I wanted.
- 58:44That it's the most predictable thing, and yet somehow it does
- 58:48something even worse, which is yeah, they get back together.
- 58:54So basically he's just been fucking Lisa.
- 58:56Yeah. And having a bit of a wobble,
- 58:59Yeah. And leaving her with the kids
- 59:02and, like, just going off doing his own thing.
- 59:05And then when he's had enough of Lisa, he just comes back and
- 59:08she's just like, oh, thank God you're back.
- 59:10And our family is back together. It feels.
- 59:14The lesson is, ladies, if you're listening, if he doesn't love
- 59:17you, just work on yourself. Reductive.
- 59:21And until he does, yeah, until he does, just keep trying to
- 59:24change yourself to. Please.
- 59:25And again, it really reminded me of it reminded me of Bette
- 59:27Midler in the First Wives Club because that's essentially what
- 59:30happens to her in it as well. Now again, you're just like, no.
- 59:33Yes, you're so right. There's.
- 59:35More than one person out there that hold.
- 59:38There's one person for me. Bullshit.
- 59:40No. Yeah.
- 59:41You have to lay it low and spread it wide.
- 59:43There's more out there for you. Get it, get it, get it.
- 59:49Fuck around, hang out more with your mates.
- 59:52She is like the good time girl she is going around Beverly
- 59:56Hills a fucking everyone writing about these sordid escapades.
- 1:00:01Go buy all of the fucking cookies.
- 1:00:04Let the kids hang out in a hotel.
- 1:00:05And next to Miami, bitch, yes. Become Miami bitch.
- 1:00:09Go to Miami. Lay it Low and Spread it Wide
- 1:00:13could be the title of My Autobiography.
- 1:00:15It's so good. Yeah.
- 1:00:18It is very disappointing. I mean, and the the whole
- 1:00:23privilege of this movie. Yeah, it's it is like, it is a
- 1:00:27choice to try and make me care about these kids.
- 1:00:29That said, I think this movie is in like a lineage of like your
- 1:00:36bimbos. It's got a bit of Romeo and
- 1:00:38Michelle. It's got a bit of of and it's
- 1:00:41got a lot of Legally Blonde. Yes.
- 1:00:45You got into Harvard Law? What?
- 1:00:48Like it's hard, but I guess the. Point of this movie is not that
- 1:00:51like her commercialism is bad. Yes almost.
- 1:00:55And I mean there is a argument to be made about commercialism.
- 1:00:57Well, again, she's she's eccentric.
- 1:01:00Yeah. Like, she's definitely like, not
- 1:01:02your run-of-the-mill type of person.
- 1:01:04And with all of those incest. Incest.
- 1:01:07In incest eccentricity. Yeah, She doesn't change who she
- 1:01:11is at any point. Yeah, she sticks true to who she
- 1:01:13is. And if that is because she's too
- 1:01:15fancy and too kind of like kooky dooky with all of her money, she
- 1:01:19doesn't change. Yeah.
- 1:01:20And so that's kind of the the feminist perspective, I would
- 1:01:23say on this, if you like squint. But in Legally Blonde, like the
- 1:01:30same thing happens where her shitty boyfriend comes crawling
- 1:01:33back but she's like fuck you I don't need to.
- 1:01:36And like, she's learned her own value and her own self worth and
- 1:01:39that's. Also illegally blonde.
- 1:01:41Yeah, she does have like she she does excel and is excellent
- 1:01:47within her job while maintaining her fabulous Beverly Hills.
- 1:01:51So there is that. It's like an added layer.
- 1:01:54Well. You have to, you have to take,
- 1:01:55you have to believe this movie when it says that them winning
- 1:01:58the Jamboree is her excelling and her walk across that log is
- 1:02:01excelling and her taking them for jewelry appraisals is
- 1:02:05excelling. You have to believe that
- 1:02:07narrative because it is trying to.
- 1:02:10I think a movie is trying to say, like, do you?
- 1:02:14It's great. Yeah.
- 1:02:16Like, don't be ashamed of, I don't even want to say like
- 1:02:21feminine things because it's like such a weird version of
- 1:02:25femininity. And it's like so hyper and like
- 1:02:27it's kind of bimbo, but it's like, you know, it's like be a
- 1:02:31bimbo. It's cool.
- 1:02:32Be rich. Be you.
- 1:02:33Yeah. Like it.
- 1:02:35Because it's just like we are so rich.
- 1:02:38We can do whatever we want, when we want to, how we want to.
- 1:02:42Like, you know, like what's the worst thing that happens?
- 1:02:46They get, they go to a bog. Yeah.
- 1:02:50The other thing I was wondering about, like, you could also
- 1:02:53imagine a version of this movie where she's, like, a real bitch.
- 1:02:56Like, she's Goldie Hawn and Overboard at the beginning of
- 1:03:00the movie. She's disinterested in her
- 1:03:02daughter. She's very superficial, shallow.
- 1:03:07And like, the movie is about her learning to let go of that
- 1:03:10stuff. Yeah, it's kind of interesting.
- 1:03:12It doesn't do that. And like, she doesn't really,
- 1:03:16like, she loves her daughter from the beginning.
- 1:03:18She's just a bit flighty. Yeah.
- 1:03:20Like, she's a good mother. Who cares?
- 1:03:23Like it's kind of interesting that it doesn't paint her as
- 1:03:25this like bad guy ever. No, she doesn't have a like a
- 1:03:30floor, She doesn't. There's nothing and.
- 1:03:33That's kind of the Legally Blonde of it all as well.
- 1:03:35You know what I mean? In one way, it would be more
- 1:03:38satisfying if she had that journey, but I can also imagine
- 1:03:40them doing it that way and me being like me being frustrated
- 1:03:45with the movie for that as well. So like, it kind of couldn't
- 1:03:48win. That's true.
- 1:03:49But I don't know, I just, I would have liked a bit more of
- 1:03:52like a bit more of a journey, some sort of journey.
- 1:03:55There's no journey at all. Yes.
- 1:03:58Or like just have a real like make her have a real struggle.
- 1:04:01Yeah, yeah, really rough it out at the end or something cool.
- 1:04:04She should have had not rich kids assigned to her and she
- 1:04:08should have had to use her like rich skills with them and like
- 1:04:17they all would have learned. They would have learned a lesson
- 1:04:19from each other, you know? Yeah, it's tried and tested, but
- 1:04:22like, it's like every single film To Wong Fu.
- 1:04:25Yeah, They, they there's a teachable moment.
- 1:04:27Yeah, there's like a sharing. They kind of, you know, like in
- 1:04:30To Wong Fu, the drag Queens become like, more humanized and
- 1:04:34more aware of, like, situations, but then they learn and spread
- 1:04:37fabulosity with the. Yeah, there's like no exchange.
- 1:04:41It's like we're rich. And we're still rich.
- 1:04:43Yeah, and we win. And we don't even need the
- 1:04:47shitty trophy that all of you have been training so hard for.
- 1:04:50Yeah, it doesn't matter to us. And.
- 1:04:52For Velda ends up working at fucking Kmart.
- 1:04:55Yeah, and she literally is just doing her job.
- 1:04:59But yeah. If the movie were braver, you
- 1:05:02could call it like or smarter. You'd be like.
- 1:05:04This is an interesting analysis of class in America.
- 1:05:10The movie is not the. Case I will say one thing like I
- 1:05:13really didn't enjoy the film the first time like I hated it.
- 1:05:16I would go as far as saying and I do think maybe it's because
- 1:05:19it's just not a nostalgic thing for me and I think that is just
- 1:05:22something to bear in mind. I think with a lot of these
- 1:05:24films because I think when you grow up with stuff and you've
- 1:05:27kind of got that like warmth and you're a bit you're a bit you
- 1:05:29think about things or you don't think about things at all when
- 1:05:31you're younger and you just enjoy it for what it is.
- 1:05:34That does kind of help you with these films and I think going
- 1:05:37cold to something like this, it's just like I'm wasting my
- 1:05:40life watching this. I just was like what is the
- 1:05:45point? Yeah.
- 1:05:46So because you had said, because I knew that was going and I did
- 1:05:50try very hard to be kind to this movie, watching it.
- 1:05:53And as a result, like it did go down pretty easy.
- 1:05:56Like it doesn't have a lot of it, doesn't have a lot going on.
- 1:06:00It's not a particularly thoughtful movie, but like the
- 1:06:04star, is really endearing and watchable.
- 1:06:06And that's the thing, I watched it on a Sunday morning for my
- 1:06:08second, and actually Sunday morning I was in a slightly more
- 1:06:12chill headspace. It wasn't like after a busy day,
- 1:06:14it was. And I was like, actually, this
- 1:06:16is just really gentle and silly and pretty to look at and kind
- 1:06:20of a bit kooky. I was like, get over myself.
- 1:06:22Yeah. But I think it's the same as
- 1:06:24when we do drag as well. I think it's like if you do a
- 1:06:26Pride gig, are you actually enjoying in the sweltering heat
- 1:06:32getting everyone down on the floor to I want to dance
- 1:06:34somebody and then jumping up while everyone's got like
- 1:06:36rainbow CS on their faces? Are you actually enjoying that?
- 1:06:40No, you're not. Do you hate everything about it?
- 1:06:43Probably. But there are people out there
- 1:06:46enjoying it, so who am I to shit on them?
- 1:06:49You just got to go with it. And that's what I think with
- 1:06:51some of these films, it's like people love them.
- 1:06:54Do I love them? No, that they probably are camp
- 1:06:58and fun to those people. It's a very much on paper, you
- 1:07:02could really make the argument for this movie being very camp,
- 1:07:05like the fashion, the the Shelley Long of it all the like
- 1:07:10arch villain who's lesbian coded.
- 1:07:12Yeah. They're like there's some jokes
- 1:07:15that are kind of funny, like the pratfalls are funny.
- 1:07:18Like, yeah, it it it works for what it is.
- 1:07:23Yeah, definitely. It's just it's not like a big
- 1:07:27thinker. No, but then I don't want it to
- 1:07:29be that every film that we talk about has to be a big thinker.
- 1:07:33Like Dumb is Fun. Yeah, you just want.
- 1:07:35But like. You want a subversion, and this
- 1:07:38is like at least subversion. Imagine if Pamela Anderson was
- 1:07:41doing this film in the 90s, right?
- 1:07:44I think I'd be more interested in that.
- 1:07:46Do you know what I mean? It's like hot Pammy.
- 1:07:48Like House Bunny. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:50House Bunny is great fun. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:53That's the same story. This story is tailors all the
- 1:07:55time. This story has been told many,
- 1:07:57many times. But again, you know a Goldie
- 1:07:59Hawn and I suppose it didn't go more down that road.
- 1:08:01Private Benjamin. You see her having to actually
- 1:08:05get in the nitty gritty of it all and she gets like mucky.
- 1:08:08And then she shows that she's learned all of these amazing
- 1:08:11skills and it's kind of like, go you.
- 1:08:14There's more to you than this. There isn't more to her than
- 1:08:18this. No, but at the movies maybe kind
- 1:08:21of saying like that's OK, Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:08:26Privilege wins. Privilege wins.
- 1:08:28It's very third wave feminism. You know, it's just like you
- 1:08:32can, you can just be a woman and that's great.
- 1:08:36Yeah. And like, you can have your hair
- 1:08:38and nails done and that does not make you a bad person or a bad
- 1:08:42feminist. It OH.
- 1:08:44Yeah, getting back with your shitty husband does, yeah.
- 1:08:47I mean, that's just like the rules of feminism.
- 1:08:50I also saw this letterbox review, which I think kind of
- 1:08:53sums it all up. I'm not wholly uncritical of
- 1:08:55this movie because it kind of villainizes more masculine
- 1:08:57constructions of womanhood as seen in Velda's character.
- 1:08:59But I guess it's also trying to combat the notion that you can't
- 1:09:01be feminine and strong. But it's also slimy that we're
- 1:09:03asked to sympathize, sympathize with the troops underdog status
- 1:09:06because the implication is that they're all ostracized because
- 1:09:08they're so rich. But I also love the 80s Beverly
- 1:09:10Hills fantasy glam life, and Shelly Long plays it so well.
- 1:09:13And the message of that it's OK if you're not outdoorsy was
- 1:09:15influential to me. I don't know this movie is a
- 1:09:17bop, but it's a non problem. It's not an unproblematic bop,
- 1:09:19but it's hard as also in the right place for championing
- 1:09:21girls. But it could also be improved
- 1:09:23upon. We're only championing a
- 1:09:25specific depiction of girlhood, but also one where we can only
- 1:09:27do so much. Round of applause.
- 1:09:31Yeah, we should get them on the podcast.
- 1:09:32They really summed it up. I've just, I've just worked out
- 1:09:35how I would say save this movie though.
- 1:09:37Yes, and 100% this is what I would do.
- 1:09:39I would just switch who the main character is.
- 1:09:41And I know I've been banging on about Stephanie Veitchan, but
- 1:09:44imagine if it's an erotic, sexy writer that is taking on and she
- 1:09:49has to do it. And her goofy sidekick, fabulous
- 1:09:53friend Phyllis is part of it as well, but as more of a kind of
- 1:09:56sidekick role. That makes so much sense.
- 1:09:59It just needed A twist. It needed to be something
- 1:10:01unexpected. It needed some sex in it.
- 1:10:04Really. Like, it needed to be House
- 1:10:05Bunny, where it's like a former Playboy star.
- 1:10:08Yeah, is now in this situation. And that's funnier.
- 1:10:11Yeah. And what does she learn by also
- 1:10:13becoming, like, the troop lead with the wilderness girls?
- 1:10:16Like what does she learn about herself?
- 1:10:19She doesn't learn anything. I guess.
- 1:10:21Never giving up on your husband. He's going to stray.
- 1:10:24He's going to stray ladies, he's going to leave you.
- 1:10:27He's going to find someone younger.
- 1:10:28He's going to go for a midlife crisis but don't want to.
- 1:10:31He'll come back. If you persevere and better
- 1:10:33yourself, he'll he'll come back. Does that happen in Bridget
- 1:10:37Jones too? I don't.
- 1:10:39I don't think I've ever watched Bridget Jones all the way
- 1:10:41through and I won't for this podcast FYI.
- 1:10:44Oh, what about? What about Muriel's wedding?
- 1:10:46He does that and then the mum doesn't, the mum die and it's
- 1:10:50really sad. Can't remember, but probably I
- 1:10:53can't remember OK. I don't think there's much else
- 1:10:59to say. No, I think we've done well to
- 1:11:00talk about it this much. Yeah.
- 1:11:03Let's rate this movie Merrells and Lizas.
- 1:11:05How? How many Merrells?
- 1:11:08How? What is the quality of this
- 1:11:09movie? 1 to 10.
- 1:11:10OK. Shelley Long is funny in the
- 1:11:16sense that she's a skilled comedy actor.
- 1:11:20Yeah, I like the costumes that I like.
- 1:11:22The mention that you had of the 80s fantasy, it was giving me
- 1:11:25that. But I mean, there's no plot.
- 1:11:28There's no storyline. It's just like money has been
- 1:11:33spent on this as well, but like, no care.
- 1:11:35It's a really good representation of the story
- 1:11:36they're telling. There's like money there, but
- 1:11:38it's dead. You're so right.
- 1:11:41I'm going to. I'm Stephanie beat him.
- 1:11:42Yeah, but we're not talking. I'm going to give it 2.
- 1:11:46OK. I think I'll go a little higher.
- 1:11:50I think for what it is, it's medium successful.
- 1:11:55It's mid tier of what it's trying to be, Yes.
- 1:11:58OK, you've seen much better versions of this movie.
- 1:12:02You could imagine worse ones. I'm going to give it a four.
- 1:12:05OK, fair enough. Yeah, groundbreaking.
- 1:12:09Eliza's How camp is this movie? Well, to lots of people, this is
- 1:12:12probably a very camp film. Yeah, I struggle.
- 1:12:15If I'm bored of a film, then it's just like, I can't be
- 1:12:18saying it's camp if I'm bored. I think for like the 1st 20
- 1:12:23minutes, I'm going to, I'm going to give it something.
- 1:12:26And I think Shelley Long also deserves something.
- 1:12:29It's kind of like middle of the road for me.
- 1:12:31And if you're in the right frame of mind and like, yeah, you're
- 1:12:34on, you're hungover. It's Sunday morning.
- 1:12:36Oh, it's great if you're hungover.
- 1:12:38Absolutely. I think it's a 5.
- 1:12:43Yeah, I was. I thought you were going to go a
- 1:12:45little bit higher. Actually, it's definitely not.
- 1:12:47I can't go under the camp radar. It's not consistently camp
- 1:12:51enough. Yeah.
- 1:12:52And I think, I don't know, I like to think the people that
- 1:12:56really enjoy camp culture are a bit smarter than this.
- 1:13:00It's a bit dumb dumb camp for me.
- 1:13:02Yeah, it's a it's, it's like pretty like fun to look at camp.
- 1:13:05But it's drag brunch, Yeah. It's like, you're gonna love
- 1:13:09this. It's like.
- 1:13:10There's nothing subversive about this movie.
- 1:13:12There's no. There's no.
- 1:13:13Stephanie beat him. Sure, yeah, but.
- 1:13:15She. She.
- 1:13:16But she's so criminally underused that like, yeah, you
- 1:13:19just, you see a taste of her. You're like, oh, why isn't this
- 1:13:22more? Definitely.
- 1:13:24And so you can't really get queer joy from a story about,
- 1:13:26like, a rich woman trying to get back with her husband.
- 1:13:28Very like I'm Diane Keaton. OK.
- 1:13:32ROP I could imagine Diane Keaton playing this role.
- 1:13:38Yes. Yeah, I can act.
- 1:13:40Oh, God, yeah. But no, it's a shame because I,
- 1:13:43I'm a fan of Shelley Long. I don't know all of her films,
- 1:13:47but I do think she's a talented person.
- 1:13:50Yeah, but I also get why this is part of I think this when you
- 1:13:53look at her IoD and B, this is like the start of the decline of
- 1:13:57her career and I. Think then she ended up in Brady
- 1:13:59Bunch, right? And yeah, that was.
- 1:14:01Did well and then declined again, yeah.
- 1:14:03I think she's excellent in this movie, though, like, and she's
- 1:14:07much better than the material. Yeah, she elevates the whole
- 1:14:10thing. Yeah.
- 1:14:13So like, good on her. But yeah, I will say I would
- 1:14:17love, I think for a while we need to put to rest this, this
- 1:14:21genre of 80s comedy because it is not giving me what I need at
- 1:14:25the moment. Been very disappointed.
- 1:14:28I'm I'm very disappointed with those girls, with Kim Cattrall,
- 1:14:31with Shelley Long Mannequin, this they are letting the side
- 1:14:35down. Yeah, we need something like.
- 1:14:38Supergirl. Yeah, now that's subversive.
- 1:14:45Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, it definitely need a little
- 1:14:47break from the the 80s romps. Yeah, I'm sorry, because I know
- 1:14:52lots of people like them, lots of people are loving them at the
- 1:14:54moment. But you know.
- 1:14:58Maybe we just need like a whole new genre.
- 1:15:00Do we need an action movie or something?
- 1:15:02Yeah, I think we need to go down that route for a little bit,
- 1:15:04that fantasy, because it's just like, The thing is, I think the
- 1:15:07whole point of this podcast is there's lots of films that like
- 1:15:09on the surface level, you could just go that's camp, that's
- 1:15:11camp, that's camp, that's camp. And then it's like, yeah, they
- 1:15:14kind of are. But like I want like.
- 1:15:16Yeah, and that's why this is a 5.
- 1:15:17I want like quirky, weird camp choices.
- 1:15:20We need to take a risk just putting out there.
- 1:15:25Well, someone did send me. Actually.
- 1:15:26What? Someone, someone sent me.
- 1:15:27This is a suggestion. This might be too risky.
- 1:15:30We need some Anna Nicole, I think.
- 1:15:32Oh yeah, we're talking about that.
- 1:15:34Anna Nicole, But this person sent me the gay bed and
- 1:15:38breakfast of terror. Oh.
- 1:15:40And the tag, I mean, it's I think it's a porno, but the
- 1:15:43tagline is you can't check in without getting checked out.
- 1:15:46So I don't know. I don't know if this person was
- 1:15:49high, if they were drunk, but they were like they sent it to
- 1:15:52me and then they said, honestly, Camp classics legendary, it's
- 1:15:56300% better than you think. So I don't know, maybe it's a
- 1:16:00bit too niche. I definitely don't think
- 1:16:04anyone's seen that one, but maybe that's OK.
- 1:16:08Yeah, porn then. Yeah.
- 1:16:11Yeah, well, let's go. Let's let's, let's take a pivot.
- 1:16:14Let's find some weirdo traces. OK, and now for something
- 1:16:18completely different. Thank God it's needed.
- 1:16:22Thank you for lasting this song everyone.
- 1:16:24Here's my interview with Lorraine Get.
- 1:16:29Away from her, you bitch. Blasting.
- 1:16:34He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders
- 1:16:37right before she died. prostitute or a dog at it I.
- 1:16:47Still love doggy chow. I love doggy chat.
- 1:16:52Too. You want me to hold it like
- 1:16:53this? I love.
- 1:16:54I do I do this. Is hi, hey you.
- 1:16:59Hey. I'm here with Loreen A2 time
- 1:17:02Eurovision winner, queen of Bangers.
- 1:17:04Thanks for being here. Did you hear that, Queen of
- 1:17:07Bangers? Queen of Bangers.
- 1:17:08Welcome to Camp Classics. Thank you, happy to be here.
- 1:17:11Yeah, I wanted to start by asking you about your new music
- 1:17:14video, which is iconic, giving Dark Phoenix, it's giving
- 1:17:19Showgirls, Crystal Connors coming out of the volcano.
- 1:17:22Yes, what? Was the inspo.
- 1:17:24Oh God, the inspo I oh, that, that the rising phoenix.
- 1:17:32Well, you know, I, I just knew. I don't know, it's weird because
- 1:17:35I just knew that I needed to be on fire because of the storyline
- 1:17:38of the of the of the video as well as the song.
- 1:17:42And I just like how much fire can we have?
- 1:17:45And the director say, do you want full, full body?
- 1:17:47I'm like, yes, that's exactly what I want.
- 1:17:50He's like, OK. Was that all real?
- 1:17:53No, I mean, yes, it was real. That was bad.
- 1:17:57And there are ways. There are ways.
- 1:17:59There are ways to do it. Like obviously you can burn
- 1:18:02something up and you can add that into an actual, you know,
- 1:18:05scene. Yeah, I knew that.
- 1:18:07You know, the character. I'm saying character.
- 1:18:09It's not a character. It's actually all of us.
- 1:18:11But let's just call it the character that I'm playing.
- 1:18:14Obviously, it's it's based on a story that I used to hear as a
- 1:18:17child. You know, it was just an entity
- 1:18:20coming to Earth and experiencing the human experience for the
- 1:18:23first time. Of course.
- 1:18:25Hello. But so she has this like, you
- 1:18:28know, so that's basically why fire is so uncontained.
- 1:18:32She's she's just very much. That's so cool.
- 1:18:34Yeah, yeah, yeah, yes, yes. And just being a bit confused
- 1:18:40about where she's at and what is going on.
- 1:18:43We love that. We love that.
- 1:18:44We love that. Where do you get your references
- 1:18:46from? Life, Yeah, yeah, definitely
- 1:18:49life. You know, in this case, this is
- 1:18:51very much a reflection of what is going on in the world.
- 1:18:53I mean, I say the world, but you know what we're going through
- 1:18:56all of us now in the world today.
- 1:19:00I mean, feels like heaven, which is the song you're talking
- 1:19:02about. That's that's very much a song
- 1:19:04about. It's very much like
- 1:19:08understanding that heaven is not a place.
- 1:19:10It's actually a state of mind, you know, And, you know, we
- 1:19:12actually can create our reality. We do all the time.
- 1:19:16And, you know, and we're in control there.
- 1:19:19We choose. This is going to sound so, so,
- 1:19:21so crazy, but I believe we can choose our emotions.
- 1:19:24We can choose paths. Yeah.
- 1:19:25Yeah. So that's basically what the
- 1:19:27song is about. Oh yeah.
- 1:19:30That's kind of the queer experience, too.
- 1:19:32It's like figuring out, you know what?
- 1:19:36You don't necessarily have the same path as everyone else.
- 1:19:39Yeah, you have to choose your own.
- 1:19:40Yeah, You have to choose your own.
- 1:19:42We always do. We have to, you know, it's
- 1:19:44really, yeah, we have to and have to stay authentic to
- 1:19:47ourselves. It's like it's so important and
- 1:19:50it's, it's and it's gonna happen.
- 1:19:51It's happening all the time. You know, that's that's how the
- 1:19:55universe works. Love that you're such a visual
- 1:19:58artist. How like how do visuals come to
- 1:20:00you when you're? Creating songs like, is it all
- 1:20:02kind of part of the same thing? Do you see the visuals at the
- 1:20:05same time as you're making the music?
- 1:20:06Yeah, exactly that, exactly that.
- 1:20:08Instantly. And not even.
- 1:20:09Yeah, I just, I see visuals when I hear sound.
- 1:20:13It doesn't have to be a finished song.
- 1:20:16It could just be a vacuum cleaner going and I'm like, I'm
- 1:20:20seeing a world, you know, is that.
- 1:20:21What the sound is? At the beginning of euphoria.
- 1:20:27Yeah, but you know, no, it actually I do that purposely.
- 1:20:31All the sirens are there to neutralize the room because
- 1:20:35there are certain frequencies that neutralizes the space.
- 1:20:38It's like it's always like a go into a meditation and you hear
- 1:20:40the gongo bong, you know, and what it does is like there are
- 1:20:44these like lower frequencies, the really bassy ones.
- 1:20:47It just grounds you and centers you.
- 1:20:49So whatever distortion happened before that boom, now you're
- 1:20:54focused. You're in the room.
- 1:20:55Now you're you're you're present I've.
- 1:20:57Only done a gong bath once and it was like day five of Burning
- 1:21:01Man and I yeah, my brain was not in the right.
- 1:21:03Space really to receive it correctly, Really.
- 1:21:06Yeah, because sound bath is amazing.
- 1:21:08Yeah, I need to. Try it again.
- 1:21:09Yeah. And it needs to be a space that
- 1:21:12you feel, you know, obviously safe and, you know, inspires
- 1:21:16you. Some space is just like this is
- 1:21:19not me, right? Right.
- 1:21:21So you're on Camp Classics. It's a podcast about camp
- 1:21:24movies. As someone in the queer
- 1:21:26community, what does camp mean to you?
- 1:21:29What camp means to you? Yeah, are you familiar with the
- 1:21:31word? This is a language barrier,
- 1:21:34Yeah, you just have to help. Me out, I'll tell you.
- 1:21:36So camp to me. We describe it as something that
- 1:21:39unlocks queer joy, is kind of stupid fun.
- 1:21:41It's reclaiming. It's like you ever seen the
- 1:21:44movie Show Girls? Yeah.
- 1:21:46Yeah, that's camp. OK, OK, OK.
- 1:21:49I got it. I got it.
- 1:21:50Yeah. It's mommy dearest.
- 1:21:51It's, I don't know, it could be Mean Girls.
- 1:21:55OK, that's my camp. You I mean.
- 1:21:59I think you have campness because you bring so much
- 1:22:04theatricality and intensity and visuals and all of that.
- 1:22:08Yeah, but sometimes camp can be used as a bit of a pejorative.
- 1:22:12And it's like. You're trying for something and
- 1:22:14you miss. Yeah, and I don't think you ever
- 1:22:15miss. OK, so.
- 1:22:17I'm gonna be careful and I'm gonna say you have camp
- 1:22:20leanings. OK cuz it does sound like pretty
- 1:22:23cool when you say oh that's so calm.
- 1:22:25It is I. Was like OK.
- 1:22:26It can be both a compliment and an insult.
- 1:22:29It's kind of an amazing word. I do love the idea of being
- 1:22:32camp. OK, well then.
- 1:22:33We changed the whole like I'm camp.
- 1:22:36I mean, you're giving camp today really insulting answers.
- 1:22:40I love it. OK then, how about this one?
- 1:22:42So one thing we talked about on the podcast a lot is things that
- 1:22:46unlock queer joy. Yeah.
- 1:22:48What does that for you? What unlocks your queer joy?
- 1:22:50Oh, God, you know me. I'm a spiritual situation.
- 1:22:55OK, So what unlocks my queer joy?
- 1:22:58It's just like I'm gonna be deep.
- 1:22:59Like it's just living my truth. Like just be allowing myself to
- 1:23:02be whatever I am at the moment. That's that's actually real deep
- 1:23:07joy. For me.
- 1:23:07Love that. Yeah.
- 1:23:09And do you have, is there anything like in media ever that
- 1:23:11you see that you're like, oh, that makes me feel like seen or
- 1:23:15excited? Like for me, it's seeing like
- 1:23:19female villainy, like a woman who's gone over the edge and
- 1:23:23she's. Like, Oh yeah, OK, she's.
- 1:23:25Dangerous. She doesn't give a shit.
- 1:23:26Anymore. Yeah.
- 1:23:27OK. Got you.
- 1:23:28That's my career, joy. Yeah.
- 1:23:29OK. I get.
- 1:23:30OK. In that case, I can definitely
- 1:23:32tell you that Sarah O'Connor at Terminator.
- 1:23:34That's my plan. Young or Tarantino killed Bill.
- 1:23:38What's her name? Thurman Fellow.
- 1:23:42The bride. I can so.
- 1:23:43Relate. I'm actually.
- 1:23:44So you're so Sarah Connor now I think about it, Yeah.
- 1:23:47Yeah yeah, I love Babs yeah exactly.
- 1:23:51I think I subconsciously like always wanted like when I saw
- 1:23:55that characters was like I can relate to that.
- 1:23:57Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, kind of something warrior ish with her
- 1:24:00she's. Not lesbian icon.
- 1:24:01Actually, yeah, yeah, we love that.
- 1:24:03We love. What is your favorite music
- 1:24:07video of all time? My favorite music video of all
- 1:24:11time. Or you can shout at a couple.
- 1:24:12Oh God, I'm like my, my head is just like spinning because I'm
- 1:24:15like music videos. I was born and raised under a
- 1:24:18fucking rock. I'm like, did I even have it?
- 1:24:21OK I I really love Frozen with Madonna but I don't know if it's
- 1:24:26the song or is it the video? The video.
- 1:24:28Is gorgeous. Isn't it when she just, you
- 1:24:30know, she's? Transforming into like dogs and
- 1:24:33Ravens. Yeah, we love that.
- 1:24:34Yeah. Actually, that's very witchy.
- 1:24:36Yeah, very. Yeah.
- 1:24:37Yeah. Isn't it?
- 1:24:40Yeah, like and she's in a desert scape.
- 1:24:42Love that. Yeah, perfect.
- 1:24:43I feel at home, like, yeah, there you go.
- 1:24:45Yeah. Perfect.
- 1:24:46I channeled that one. I wasn't sure it was well done.
- 1:24:49OK, now that you know what Campy means, do you have a favorite
- 1:24:53campy Eurovision performance? Because I think what's amazing
- 1:24:57about your performances at Eurovision is you cut through
- 1:25:00the camp with like, theatricality, kind of
- 1:25:04sincerity, like. Beauty.
- 1:25:06Strength, but. Obviously Eurovision is also
- 1:25:09known for like silly, campy, over the top ridiculous.
- 1:25:14Yeah, there was actually one performance that Rylan and Scott
- 1:25:19Scott showed me the other day, and they're like, that's cap.
- 1:25:21And I'm like, that's cap. And there was a British, this is
- 1:25:25a British song. And they were just they were
- 1:25:28dressed up as flight attendants. Yeah, they're called.
- 1:25:33They're called What are they called?
- 1:25:35Scooch. Scooch.
- 1:25:37Scooch. Flying the flag.
- 1:25:38Flying the flag, that is camp. That is so camp.
- 1:25:42I'm like, they were like, this is camp.
- 1:25:44I'm like that's camp. Oh my God, this is so camp.
- 1:25:46I should have just said that when I was trying to define
- 1:25:48camp. That was very, very camp.
- 1:25:52Yeah, so good, great answer. I love.
- 1:25:54That thank. You Do you have a favorite
- 1:25:57representation of queerness in film?
- 1:26:01Well, I just gave you my favorite.
- 1:26:02Okay, representative. Hello, you start first so
- 1:26:06that'll give me some time. So if you've seen Showgirls,
- 1:26:09Crystal Connors, and that is like a bisexual icon, Yeah.
- 1:26:12And Gina Gershon, who plays her. Have you ever seen Bound?
- 1:26:15No. My God, that's a lesbian like
- 1:26:18noir thriller. It is so good.
- 1:26:21And if you're into Sarah Connor, you'd be into Gina.
- 1:26:23Gershwin Really. Is it a?
- 1:26:24Is it a happy ending? Please tell me Yes because I'm.
- 1:26:26Yeah, it's, it's it's tense, but she plays like a Butch plumber.
- 1:26:30Yeah. And she's like, hot.
- 1:26:32And OK, Buff. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:26:35What was the name of the movie? Again, bound.
- 1:26:36It's kind of, it's a little bit bondage.
- 1:26:39It's like lesbian bondage, love. It's got Jennifer Tilley.
- 1:26:42Do you know who that is? She voiced.
- 1:26:45The bride of Chucky. OK, yeah.
- 1:26:47I just feel like I need to hang a little bit more with you
- 1:26:49because there's so much I need to learn.
- 1:26:51Oh my God. OK, last question, Yeah, So we
- 1:26:55on the podcast, we have a suggestion sack.
- 1:26:57Our listeners suggest movies that they think we should cover.
- 1:27:02Do you have a movie that we should add to the suggestion
- 1:27:05sack? The suggestion, yeah.
- 1:27:09Now that you're an expert on camp.
- 1:27:11Yes, now that I'm like by the crash course on Camp Jesus
- 1:27:15Christ, wait, you're just putting me on the spot here
- 1:27:18because I'm that spiritual person when the Carly looks at
- 1:27:21TV like I'm like I'm like hugging trees and and meditating
- 1:27:25with like crystals and stuff like that and he's putting me on
- 1:27:28the spot. What movie?
- 1:27:29The only thing that comes up is like Tarantino, Tarantino,
- 1:27:32Tarantino, Tarantino A. Great suggestion.
- 1:27:35Right. Let's pop Kill Bill in.
- 1:27:36Or maybe Pulp Fiction. Oh fuck.
- 1:27:40Fiction is really nice too, but if I had to choose I would
- 1:27:43probably choose Kill Bill anyway.
- 1:27:44That is a camp. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:27:47That is just like women fucking each other up.
- 1:27:49Big time. Yeah, we love that.
- 1:27:51Yeah, not actually the fucking each other up, but but you know,
- 1:27:54sometimes. We love it.
- 1:27:56Vivica Fox like that. Fight her.
- 1:27:58Between her and Uma Thurman, that is cinema.
- 1:28:01And they're hot, both of. Them they're both really hot.
- 1:28:03Yeah, it's not, it's. And Lucy Liu.
- 1:28:05Yeah. Hello.
- 1:28:06Hello. It's a crime.
- 1:28:07Yeah, Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:28:08No, yes. OK, Kill Bill.
- 1:28:11It's in the suggestion sack. Yes.
- 1:28:14Thank you for being here. Congrats on the new album, I
- 1:28:16can't wait to hear it. Thank you, love.
- 1:28:17Thank you so much. Thank you for having.
- 1:28:19Me, yeah. For the crash and for the crash
- 1:28:21course on camp, camp, camp, camp, camp, camp.
- 1:28:25I'm clipping that up. You are.
- 1:28:28I know. Get away.
- 1:28:31Away from her, you bitch. Classic.
- 1:28:35He was in the Amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders
- 1:28:39right I used to love doggy chow too.
