- 0:01Speaker 1: My name is Aaron Lindauer, and you're listening to a
- 0:04Speaker 1: Life Without Struggle. I'm a wife, a mother of two
- 0:08Speaker 1: wonderful children, a two time best selling author, and a
- 0:12Speaker 1: highly driven and successful entrepreneur. In my seventeen plus year
- 0:17Speaker 1: career as a mindset and health expert, I know what
- 0:21Speaker 1: holds women back from a life you only dream about,
- 0:26Speaker 1: whether you're a CEO, a businesswoman, or executive. I started
- 0:31Speaker 1: this podcast because I have.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Been where you are, and I know you want and
- 0:36Speaker 2: deserve more out of your life. I believe women are limitless.
- 0:40Speaker 2: We just get lost along the way. The process to
- 0:44Speaker 2: get you there is the topic and purpose of this podcast.
- 0:48Speaker 2: When you understand what you want, you can truly step
- 0:52Speaker 2: into a life without struggle.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Welcome, and I'm so thankful you're here.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to another episode of Life Without Struggle. My
- 1:03Speaker 1: name is Aaron Lindauer, and today we're going to talk
- 1:06Speaker 1: about stop making your hormones the villain. Okay, your hormones matter,
- 1:13Speaker 1: but they don't get to become the reason you give
- 1:17Speaker 1: up on your body. Okay, So what if one of
- 1:20Speaker 1: the things that was keeping you stuck is the belief
- 1:24Speaker 1: that your hormones are the reason you can't get results.
- 1:29Speaker 1: I hear this constantly. My cortisol must be high. That's
- 1:33Speaker 1: why I can't lose weight. Okay, my estrogen is tanked,
- 1:38Speaker 1: my progesterone is low, my metabolism is broken. It's menopause erin.
- 1:45Speaker 1: I cannot lose weight. And listen, I am the last
- 1:49Speaker 1: person who is going to tell you that your hormones
- 1:52Speaker 1: don't matter, because they absolutely do matter. My whole coaching
- 1:56Speaker 1: program is around balancing your hormones naturally and then helping
- 2:00Speaker 1: you if you actually need some support with the right strategy.
- 2:06Speaker 1: But there's a huge difference between understanding your hormones and
- 2:11Speaker 1: becoming powerless because of them. So your hormones are part
- 2:16Speaker 1: of your physiology. They are not your identity, and they
- 2:21Speaker 1: are not your destiny either as to why you can
- 2:25Speaker 1: or can't lose weight. Okay, but here's where I want
- 2:30Speaker 1: to I want you to know that I understand. Okay,
- 2:32Speaker 1: your body can absolutely feel so different, so foreign. In
- 2:37Speaker 1: this perimenopause and into menopause space of life. You will
- 2:42Speaker 1: notice changes in your menstrual cycles or they stop. You
- 2:47Speaker 1: see the changes in your sleep. I talk about sleep
- 2:49Speaker 1: all day long with my clients. You see your body
- 2:52Speaker 1: completely change from a recomposition. You know, you have fat
- 2:56Speaker 1: in places that you just never had fat before. You
- 3:00Speaker 1: see yourself not recovering like.
- 3:02Speaker 3: You used to.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Your mood is all over the place, then our hunger
- 3:07Speaker 1: and our appetite is everywhere. Then you just tell me
- 3:10Speaker 1: all the time, I have no energy. Like honestly, some
- 3:13Speaker 1: women come to me and they're like, yeah, if I
- 3:15Speaker 1: lost weight, cool, but like, I just want to have
- 3:17Speaker 1: more energy. Libido hands down. We talk about this all
- 3:22Speaker 1: the time in my coaching program because even myself, my
- 3:26Speaker 1: libido had tanked and I didn't realize like how deep
- 3:30Speaker 1: it had tanked. I thought it was fine until I realized, like,
- 3:34Speaker 1: oh crap, what I was feeling was not fine, okay,
- 3:38Speaker 1: And then your fat distribution will change where all of
- 3:43Speaker 1: a sudden a woman will tell me I have fat
- 3:45Speaker 1: on my stomach air and I never ever have had
- 3:48Speaker 1: this before, Like this is weird. My clothes absolutely don't fit.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And it's incredibly frustrating when you're doing the same things
- 3:57Speaker 1: that you've done for years and it's always worked in
- 4:00Speaker 1: the past. And this is why you can't just tell
- 4:04Speaker 1: women while eat less, you know, exercise more that is
- 4:07Speaker 1: a super super dismissive statement. And there's another extreme that's
- 4:13Speaker 1: equally unhelpful, and it's well, you're just in perimenopause. It's
- 4:18Speaker 1: your hormones. They're gonna fluctuate. I mean, how many of
- 4:22Speaker 1: you have been in and out of your doctor's office.
- 4:24Speaker 1: This is not to slam there are really really great
- 4:27Speaker 1: providers out there, but did you ever think that your
- 4:32Speaker 1: current provider maybe they just don't understand hormones the way
- 4:37Speaker 1: that you want them to. And in with respect, there's
- 4:40Speaker 1: some docs that won't even touch hormones because they are
- 4:44Speaker 1: so complex. This is something that I have had to
- 4:48Speaker 1: learn woman after woman. Myself included where I got super
- 4:53Speaker 1: dismissed going in and out of doctor's offices. I got
- 4:57Speaker 1: accused of doctor shopping. That was like an interesting one,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and then I got tapped on the button given a
- 5:03Speaker 1: script for an antidepressant and they just told me I
- 5:06Speaker 1: was stressed, when in reality, my hormones were changing and
- 5:10Speaker 1: I'm super super in tune with my body and so
- 5:13Speaker 1: when it started to not feel right, Okay, Now, for
- 5:17Speaker 1: some women, like they have no clue, like life is
- 5:19Speaker 1: so crazy, they're so into all these other things. But
- 5:22Speaker 1: I was very very in tune with my body, and
- 5:25Speaker 1: I was very into I'm very in tune with my
- 5:28Speaker 1: body anyways, and I think a lot of you that
- 5:30Speaker 1: listen to this are as well. But I after I
- 5:34Speaker 1: had our kids. I remember after having our daughter, and
- 5:38Speaker 1: I was so scared to struggle because I struggled so
- 5:42Speaker 1: much post Leo's birth, and I was so scared to struggle.
- 5:46Speaker 1: But I felt so euphoric, and I was just like,
- 5:49Speaker 1: oh my god, is this what this is like? Is
- 5:51Speaker 1: this what you know most women feel? And here's just
- 5:54Speaker 1: what I learned is I went super hyper thyroid to
- 6:00Speaker 1: then crash really really hard into hype o thyroidism, and
- 6:05Speaker 1: neither is a good thing. Okay, So while post our daughter,
- 6:09Speaker 1: I lost like twenty pounds like it was nothing. My
- 6:12Speaker 1: hair was falling out. I was so anxious. I was
- 6:15Speaker 1: freezing cold all the time, and then boom, I got
- 6:19Speaker 1: hit like a ton of bricks and went straight to
- 6:22Speaker 1: hypeo and Hair's in defense to all my providers around
- 6:26Speaker 1: me at that time is I don't even think they
- 6:28Speaker 1: were trained to even run the labs to understand, like dang,
- 6:34Speaker 1: Aaron's thyroid is like a hot mess right now and
- 6:37Speaker 1: part of it was from her birth. It was also
- 6:41Speaker 1: part of it was from breastfeeding.
- 6:44Speaker 3: And you know, I.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Just it took me a hot second post her birth
- 6:48Speaker 1: to really figure out what was going on. And we
- 6:51Speaker 1: also had a fair amount of stress in that time
- 6:54Speaker 1: and space. We had built a custom house, had to
- 6:57Speaker 1: sell our house back to the builder, almost went bankrupt
- 7:01Speaker 1: in the process. So there are just the littlest little stress.
- 7:04Speaker 1: You know, you got three kids or three kids, We
- 7:06Speaker 1: got two kids under two, and I was just like
- 7:10Speaker 1: building a custom house, running a business, no big deal, right,
- 7:13Speaker 1: But you have the same version of that story. And
- 7:16Speaker 1: this is where I'm going to tell you that so
- 7:19Speaker 1: many women were looking to our doctor. Okay, I see
- 7:22Speaker 1: women do this all the time. They look at their
- 7:24Speaker 1: doctor for advice on weight loss. Okay, Now with the
- 7:28Speaker 1: rise of the GLPS, okay, we have to go to
- 7:30Speaker 1: our doctor, right because they have to prescribe it. But
- 7:33Speaker 1: your doctor doesn't understand how to coach you up on nutrition.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Your doctor certainly doesn't know how to teach you how
- 7:40Speaker 1: to progressively resistance train with proper overload. And so we're
- 7:45Speaker 1: going almost to the wrong people trying to figure this
- 7:49Speaker 1: all out. And here's The worst thing that happens is
- 7:52Speaker 1: a lot of women will go on a GLP because
- 7:54Speaker 1: their doctor prescribed it. Now they start losing a bunch
- 7:57Speaker 1: of weight. And I mean I talked to woman after
- 7:59Speaker 1: woman after woman, and Aaron I lost eighty pounds, but
- 8:02Speaker 1: I put it all back on and then some Aaron
- 8:04Speaker 1: I lost thirty pounds, but now I'm up forty. Aaron like,
- 8:09Speaker 1: I lost all my weight, but I don't like how
- 8:11Speaker 1: I look, Like, what do I have to do?
- 8:14Speaker 2: So?
- 8:16Speaker 1: Your hormones are messengers, Okay, not the villain, and so
- 8:21Speaker 1: I want to explain this simply. Hormones are chemical messengers
- 8:26Speaker 1: involved in regulating countless processes throughout the whole body. Okay,
- 8:32Speaker 1: hormones are impacted everything. Everything gets impacted, and they don't
- 8:38Speaker 1: here's what I want to call out. Your hormones don't
- 8:40Speaker 1: just wake up one day and decide, let's put fifteen
- 8:43Speaker 1: pounds on Susan. That would be fun. Okay, No, they
- 8:46Speaker 1: don't do that. They're part of a much much larger system.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And like your sleep impacts your physiology, your nutrition affects
- 8:58Speaker 1: your physiology. Your energy balance actually matters muscle. Oh my gosh,
- 9:05Speaker 1: And we're going to talk more on muscle. Muscle matters
- 9:08Speaker 1: to your hormones. Your activity, how much you're doing or
- 9:12Speaker 1: not doing, absolutely matters your stress, your recovery, that all matters,
- 9:17Speaker 1: your age, your genetics. Those play a huge impact with hormones.
- 9:22Speaker 1: I'm constantly asking women, do you know when your mom
- 9:25Speaker 1: went into menopause? You know, these are things that sometimes
- 9:28Speaker 1: our moms talked about it, sometimes they didn't, and mine
- 9:32Speaker 1: did not. And so I've had to really really learn
- 9:35Speaker 1: about my body on my own because we're very, very
- 9:39Speaker 1: different women. But some days I'm like, man, it would
- 9:41Speaker 1: just be nice if she could, you know, clue me
- 9:44Speaker 1: into some of this stuff. Okay, your reproductive hormones are
- 9:49Speaker 1: changing during this phase, and our body is a system,
- 9:54Speaker 1: and so when we're trying to blame everything on a hormone,
- 9:59Speaker 1: we often a bigger picture. And so this is where
- 10:03Speaker 1: I had to learn more about hormones. I put myself
- 10:06Speaker 1: through additional coursework. It was very complex, it was a
- 10:09Speaker 1: lot to understand, but I started to really understand that
- 10:13Speaker 1: our hormones are they have to work in almost like
- 10:17Speaker 1: an orchestra. So you've got your strings, you've got your wins,
- 10:21Speaker 1: you've got like you've got everybody trying to play together,
- 10:24Speaker 1: and if everybody's playing a different song, well guess what,
- 10:27Speaker 1: it's not going to sound very good. Okay, but everybody
- 10:29Speaker 1: has to work together. And this is where so many
- 10:33Speaker 1: women just want to chalk it up like oh, I'm screwed,
- 10:36Speaker 1: it's my hormones. Where I'm like, you're the one that's
- 10:39Speaker 1: actually in control of the hormones. When I understood how
- 10:43Speaker 1: much I was in control of my hormones, the script
- 10:46Speaker 1: changed and I realized really quickly, like, wow, I can
- 10:50Speaker 1: actually feel pretty good most days, and I can also
- 10:54Speaker 1: have the body that I want because I understand how
- 10:57Speaker 1: this all works together. And this is where I want
- 11:00Speaker 1: to talk about how dangerous it is for women to
- 11:04Speaker 1: use language such as my broken hormones. Okay, because this
- 11:10Speaker 1: is a story you're telling yourself.
- 11:13Speaker 3: It's not a fact.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Okay, you're telling yourself a story, and you're giving a
- 11:18Speaker 1: lot of power to something you're actually in control of.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Okay.
- 11:22Speaker 1: So I want to talk heavy into the mindset, and
- 11:25Speaker 1: this is what I coach more than anything. Yes, nuts
- 11:28Speaker 1: and bolts when it comes to nutrition and working out
- 11:31Speaker 1: in my program, but we have to dig deeper into
- 11:36Speaker 1: the mental side. Of this because I want you to change.
- 11:39Speaker 3: And never go back.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Okay, imagine with me waking up every morning believing my
- 11:47Speaker 1: body is broken. What kind of emotion does that create?
- 11:54Speaker 1: It creates this hopelessness, this frustration. You've got fear then okay,
- 12:01Speaker 1: if we feel those things, then what behavior follows?
- 12:06Speaker 3: Why bother? Nothing works?
- 12:08Speaker 1: Anyways, I've tried everything. I wait, I'm just gonna wait
- 12:13Speaker 1: until my hormones get fixed. Now you're unknowingly handed your
- 12:19Speaker 1: power away. So instead of my hormones won't let me
- 12:25Speaker 1: lose weight. I want you to try this one on.
- 12:29Speaker 1: My physiology has changed, so let's understand what needs to
- 12:33Speaker 1: change with it. Okay, this is where we go from
- 12:37Speaker 1: being a victim to someone that's curious. And this is
- 12:41Speaker 1: one thing that you know. You hear the saying curiosity
- 12:44Speaker 1: killed the cat right, Well, last time I checked, those
- 12:47Speaker 1: little suckers have like nine lives. And you're kind of like, man,
- 12:50Speaker 1: I grew up. This was so funny. We grew up
- 12:53Speaker 1: out on four acres and I remember when my parents
- 12:56Speaker 1: bought this house. I think I was like in elementary
- 12:58Speaker 1: school still. Anyways, they bought this house and it had
- 13:01Speaker 1: four acres, big barn and then it had this cat
- 13:04Speaker 1: shed and it was full of cats. So we acquired
- 13:10Speaker 1: all of these cats. Okay, and cats, oh my god,
- 13:14Speaker 1: totally different than dogs. So for all my cat people,
- 13:17Speaker 1: like sorry, cats are just very interesting beasts, and I
- 13:22Speaker 1: mean they flow with a different curiosity.
- 13:25Speaker 3: But we can learn something from that. And so it's important.
- 13:29Speaker 1: To be curious. Be curious about your body and what
- 13:33Speaker 1: works now, you know. I remember when we were buying
- 13:38Speaker 1: our very very first building where we were starting our
- 13:41Speaker 1: personal training facility. And this was back circa oh, two
- 13:45Speaker 1: thousand and six seven, and I think that was right
- 13:47Speaker 1: when there was getting ready to be the recession or whatever.
- 13:51Speaker 1: But I remember being a first time home buyer. Okay,
- 13:55Speaker 1: actually worked out in our favor, but I remember losing
- 13:58Speaker 1: financing on the day of closing. So you're all prepared.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I had taken the day off of work. You were
- 14:05Speaker 1: all prepared to close on this property. And I remember
- 14:10Speaker 1: just having the wind sucked out of my sales like
- 14:14Speaker 1: we had already started our business. We were renting the
- 14:17Speaker 1: property just two doors down, Like, how the hell can
- 14:20Speaker 1: this just happen? Well it did, but here's what I did,
- 14:24Speaker 1: unknowing to this curiosity. But I was like, well, I'm
- 14:27Speaker 1: gonna have to call every flip and lender I can
- 14:29Speaker 1: until I get this figured out, because check this out.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Every day that we didn't close on this property, the
- 14:36Speaker 1: builder charged us a fee.
- 14:38Speaker 3: And that it added up.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Okay, but the curiosity of okay, how can I get
- 14:45Speaker 1: this figured out? And part of me is like, I'm
- 14:48Speaker 1: just tenacious. I won't give up. You know, maybe a
- 14:51Speaker 1: little hard headed, but this is where I want you
- 14:54Speaker 1: to be with your body is stay curious of you
- 14:57Speaker 1: know what, man, I have literally tried everything, but maybe
- 15:01Speaker 1: there is one more solution. And this is the kind
- 15:04Speaker 1: of mindset not to make you jump to jump to jump, right,
- 15:08Speaker 1: Sometimes we need to see something through. But I want
- 15:11Speaker 1: you to stay curious because I want you to get
- 15:13Speaker 1: away from being a victim. Oh, it's just perimenopause, menopause,
- 15:18Speaker 1: and I want you to go into this.
- 15:20Speaker 3: Damn. I don't know what works.
- 15:22Speaker 1: With my body at this phase of life. And man,
- 15:25Speaker 1: this check over here, she seems to have it pretty
- 15:27Speaker 1: much together.
- 15:28Speaker 3: And I do.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I do because I had to figure it out for
- 15:32Speaker 1: myself when my body completely changed, when I had weight
- 15:36Speaker 1: on my body and for the first time in my life,
- 15:38Speaker 1: I was sitting here going what the hell happened?
- 15:41Speaker 3: Okay? And I had to figure it out.
- 15:44Speaker 1: And this is why I coach and teach the way
- 15:46Speaker 1: I do today, because I'm not a twenty something. Okay,
- 15:50Speaker 1: I'm not thirty. I'm in my forties now, and I've
- 15:54Speaker 1: seen my own body change hard. At thirty eight, I
- 15:58Speaker 1: was also taking birth control, I was in a self
- 16:02Speaker 1: induced menopause, no libido, night sweats, and I had a
- 16:06Speaker 1: good thirty pounds on my body that I wasn't pregnant. Okay,
- 16:12Speaker 1: So let's dive deeper into some talk around muscle. So
- 16:18Speaker 1: this is a huge section that I want to speak
- 16:21Speaker 1: into because this is hands down my wheelhouse. This is
- 16:24Speaker 1: what I went to school for. I have an exercise
- 16:27Speaker 1: science degree exercise physiologist here, and as women age, maintaining
- 16:32Speaker 1: our muscle becomes so critically important. But so many women
- 16:37Speaker 1: overlook this, okay, And muscle isn't simply just looking toned.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Okay.
- 16:44Speaker 1: This is another big misconception, as I've seen a lot
- 16:47Speaker 1: of women get on a GOP that maybe didn't have
- 16:50Speaker 1: a ton of weight to lose, okay, and now they're
- 16:53Speaker 1: just skin and bones. You've got this whole Demi Moore
- 16:56Speaker 1: look that I'm like, is this a thing? And I've
- 16:59Speaker 1: been looking around the landscape, even in my own city,
- 17:02Speaker 1: and I'm like, ooh, that's that's not good. Okay, it's
- 17:06Speaker 1: not good to just be skin and bones. And the
- 17:09Speaker 1: only reason you look toned is because you're so lean.
- 17:12Speaker 1: But I'll tell you what, if the wind blew too hard,
- 17:15Speaker 1: you're probably gonna fall over. Okay, now hear me out.
- 17:18Speaker 1: We just need to put muscle on your body in
- 17:20Speaker 1: an appropriate fashion.
- 17:22Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:23Speaker 1: As women age, maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important. And muscle
- 17:29Speaker 1: isn't simply about just looking toned. This is about your
- 17:33Speaker 1: strength and physical function.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Now, there's a huge running joke with all of my clients.
- 17:39Speaker 1: You know, don't get too strong because then your husband
- 17:41Speaker 1: starts asking you to help with projects, which full disclosure,
- 17:45Speaker 1: my husband like loves doing projects. And I'll be honest,
- 17:49Speaker 1: I'm I'm here for most of them, right. I love
- 17:51Speaker 1: home improvement and just making things nicer. But OMG, when
- 17:56Speaker 1: you put a patio in together in every paver is
- 17:59Speaker 1: one hundred more than twenty pounds. That one that one
- 18:04Speaker 1: about didisen? Okay, bout didisin? The other one that about
- 18:08Speaker 1: didisen was when we decided to paint our fence around
- 18:12Speaker 1: our entire property black. Okay, and it's not just one side, right,
- 18:17Speaker 1: you gotta paint inside and outside. Oh and then guess
- 18:20Speaker 1: what every year or so, you're.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Gonna have to repaint this sucker.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Now, it looks really cool, so I'm gonna give him that.
- 18:27Speaker 1: But I remember when I was painting this blessed fence
- 18:30Speaker 1: the first time, which was terrible, but I remember people
- 18:34Speaker 1: walking by, okay, and this was the best. So we
- 18:37Speaker 1: have a bunch of people that walk their dogs and
- 18:39Speaker 1: come by and it's, you know, really great. But I
- 18:41Speaker 1: remember a couple people were like, you're gonna paint the
- 18:44Speaker 1: whole fence, and I just wanted to be like, no,
- 18:47Speaker 1: We're just gonna paint part of it black. Like yes,
- 18:50Speaker 1: we're gonna paint the whole damn fence, and it's gonna
- 18:52Speaker 1: take me freaking forever and it's gonna look great. But
- 18:55Speaker 1: be careful getting too strong, because your husband's gonna sign
- 18:59Speaker 1: you up for different projects. Some other really cool things
- 19:03Speaker 1: that happen when you support your muscle is your glucose
- 19:07Speaker 1: disposal and your insulin sensitivity. Okay, This is why some
- 19:12Speaker 1: of these glps work so so well, because it's impacting
- 19:15Speaker 1: your insulin and it's a good thing, especially if we
- 19:20Speaker 1: have been overweight for a while and maybe we don't
- 19:24Speaker 1: have muscle on our body. Listen, this is where it
- 19:27Speaker 1: can absolutely be helpful to use a GOLP the right way.
- 19:32Speaker 1: But for all my women who are actually metabolically in
- 19:36Speaker 1: a really, really good spot, but you're just like, damn,
- 19:38Speaker 1: I can't get these last pesky pounds. You can use
- 19:42Speaker 1: a GOLP just for a little bit and get the
- 19:45Speaker 1: rest off. Okay, So I don't want to make this
- 19:48Speaker 1: conversation about glps. I just hate how like these have
- 19:52Speaker 1: gotten so skewed in so many different ways. Also, with muscle,
- 19:58Speaker 1: your bone health chain in a good way. Okay, we've
- 20:02Speaker 1: pulled clients out of osteopena, which is the precursor to osteoporosis.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Your metabolic health is way better when you have muscle
- 20:12Speaker 1: on your body. I mean, I run labs on my
- 20:14Speaker 1: clients and I've seen women in metabolic dysfunction and I'm like, girlfriend,
- 20:19Speaker 1: you have to put muscle on your body. You have
- 20:22Speaker 1: to fall in love with lifting appropriately. Also, I know
- 20:27Speaker 1: we don't think about this here in our forties and fifties.
- 20:31Speaker 1: But we have to think about our independence as we age.
- 20:36Speaker 1: So you know, for some of us it's total vain
- 20:39Speaker 1: and I'm here for it whatever, But you need to
- 20:43Speaker 1: think about what you do in your forties, fifties, sixties
- 20:47Speaker 1: is going to depict what happens in your seventies and eighties.
- 20:50Speaker 1: And you want to age well, okay, and to do
- 20:55Speaker 1: that you have to maintain good muscle and good strength.
- 20:59Speaker 1: And then a last one that I'll highlight is you
- 21:02Speaker 1: want to stay in a good body composition. This is
- 21:05Speaker 1: where most women really really struggle because they're carrying too
- 21:09Speaker 1: much fat on their body.
- 21:10Speaker 3: They don't have any.
- 21:12Speaker 1: Muscle, okay, and like you wonder why you're so tired
- 21:17Speaker 1: all the time, Well, muscle helps with that. So when
- 21:22Speaker 1: women respond to weight gain by doing more cardio and
- 21:26Speaker 1: eating less, they can potentially work against another important goal,
- 21:32Speaker 1: which is preserving your lean mass. And again, not to
- 21:36Speaker 1: mention the GLP one more time, but I appreciate the
- 21:38Speaker 1: conversation because now for the first time, everybody's like, oh,
- 21:41Speaker 1: I need to protect my lean tissue. Oh I need
- 21:44Speaker 1: to put muscle on. Oh I got to eat protein.
- 21:46Speaker 1: It's like, okay, cool, I'm glad everybody's talking about this now.
- 21:49Speaker 1: So I don't want you to just feel lighter. I
- 21:53Speaker 1: want you to be metabolically healthier, physically and stronger. Okay,
- 21:58Speaker 1: that's a completely different goal. So there's four levers you
- 22:05Speaker 1: can still control. Okay, again, going back to your hormones
- 22:08Speaker 1: are not.
- 22:09Speaker 3: The villain is.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I really want you to think about these four pillars
- 22:15Speaker 1: or four levers that you are in control of. You're
- 22:19Speaker 1: in control of your strength, so progressive resistance training with
- 22:23Speaker 1: appropriate recovery. You're in control of your nutrition, so adequate protein, overall,
- 22:30Speaker 1: good nutrient density, and appropriate energy intake for whatever your
- 22:36Speaker 1: goal is.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Then sleep.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I cannot talk enough about sleep. And this is where
- 22:41Speaker 1: a lot of women just kind of like chalk this up,
- 22:43Speaker 1: like whatever is not because when you sleep you just
- 22:47Speaker 1: magically burn fat, but because sleep influences recovery, It influences
- 22:52Speaker 1: your growth hormone.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Okay, it.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Absolutely impacts your appetite, your energy, you're training, your decision making. Okay,
- 23:01Speaker 1: Notice anytime that you don't have a good night of sleep,
- 23:05Speaker 1: Notice how hungry you are that whole day, how many
- 23:08Speaker 1: times you crave carbs, you crave something not so good,
- 23:12Speaker 1: and that's grellin and leptin got messed up because you
- 23:16Speaker 1: didn't sleep very well. Okay, but what if you were
- 23:19Speaker 1: empowered to know? Damn, I didn't sleep well. But you
- 23:22Speaker 1: know what, I can still control what I put in
- 23:25Speaker 1: my body because this is just the woman that I
- 23:27Speaker 1: am now. Okay, your stress and stress and recovery. We
- 23:33Speaker 1: cannot eliminate stress, okay, as much as I would love
- 23:36Speaker 1: everybody to live kumbayah, No big deal, right, It's just
- 23:39Speaker 1: we can't, okay, But you can become better at managing
- 23:44Speaker 1: your response to stress and building recovery okay into your life.
- 23:53Speaker 1: So we've got to stop spending ninety percent of our
- 23:56Speaker 1: mental energy worrying about the things that you can't control,
- 24:01Speaker 1: while ignoring the incredibly powerful things you can.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Okay.
- 24:05Speaker 1: So many women give control to the news, for example,
- 24:10Speaker 1: give control to politics, okay, and listen, I can be
- 24:14Speaker 1: in that whole rabbit hole too. Or you can give
- 24:17Speaker 1: power to your family and oh my gosh, my family
- 24:22Speaker 1: said X Y and Z, Oh my gosh, my mom
- 24:24Speaker 1: blah blah blah blah blah blah, my parents are aging
- 24:27Speaker 1: this that the other, And listen, all of this.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Is your choice.
- 24:31Speaker 1: It's your choice to respond how you want to respond
- 24:35Speaker 1: and listen. I can only speak on this stuff because
- 24:38Speaker 1: I have been very, very trained in the mental side
- 24:43Speaker 1: of this thing called life. So let's dive deeper into
- 24:48Speaker 1: where hormone replacement therapy GLPS, labs, supplements, How do these
- 24:53Speaker 1: all fit? Okay, because this is where I am different.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I am extremely educated in all of this stuff. We
- 25:01Speaker 1: can use labs to help, they are tools. We can
- 25:06Speaker 1: use HRT if appropriate. We can use a GOLP if appropriate.
- 25:10Speaker 1: We can use supplements again if they are appropriate. But
- 25:14Speaker 1: these things will not be the sole reason you lose weight.
- 25:18Speaker 3: Okay.
- 25:19Speaker 1: HRT will absolutely not make you lose weight. GOLP will
- 25:22Speaker 1: make you lose weight. But full disclosure, I have a
- 25:24Speaker 1: lot of clients get on and guess what. They're not
- 25:27Speaker 1: losing weight? Well, guess what. We still got to get
- 25:29Speaker 1: the nutrition piece figured out.
- 25:32Speaker 3: Hands down.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Supplements will not make you lose weight.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Okay.
- 25:36Speaker 1: If anything, I pull women off supplements because they're taking
- 25:39Speaker 1: so many dang things hoping and praying for a different outcome. Okay,
- 25:44Speaker 1: So don't make any of them good or bad. Okay,
- 25:47Speaker 1: you maybe feel one way or about a GOLP, but listen,
- 25:50Speaker 1: they're tools. Everything is a tool. HRT can be appropriate
- 25:55Speaker 1: for a woman after individually evaluating her lapse okay, and
- 26:03Speaker 1: understanding her symptoms and connecting her to a medical wellness provider.
- 26:09Speaker 1: This is what we do in my coaching program. So
- 26:12Speaker 1: I got so frustrated with so many women being gas
- 26:15Speaker 1: lit that I sought out and invested in Okay, this
- 26:19Speaker 1: actually cost me a fair amount of money to invest
- 26:23Speaker 1: in a medical wellness provider that I felt strongly about
- 26:28Speaker 1: their ethics, their values, and how we could serve women better.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Okay.
- 26:32Speaker 1: This was out of my own personal search trying to
- 26:35Speaker 1: find a solution for myself, and I saw such a
- 26:39Speaker 1: huge gap in the marketplace where women were paying an
- 26:43Speaker 1: insane amount of money on a GLP. Then they were
- 26:46Speaker 1: getting signed up for some of these MLMs, the LAMD
- 26:51Speaker 1: and had the whole MIDI health and all of this,
- 26:54Speaker 1: and they were charging women insane amounts of money, let
- 26:58Speaker 1: alone this whole insurance game, which don't even get me
- 27:00Speaker 1: started there. I've been self employed for twenty years, I
- 27:03Speaker 1: haven't had health insurance, so I.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Won't even go down that rabbit hole.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I've paid literally cash for berths for colonoscopies. I can't
- 27:12Speaker 1: wait to see what my husband's lung surgery is gonna
- 27:15Speaker 1: cost us.
- 27:15Speaker 3: But we'll figure it out.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Okay, But everything I'm listing here is a tool. HRT
- 27:22Speaker 1: is a tool. GLP can be used appropriately for certain women, Okay,
- 27:28Speaker 1: and men labs absolutely can be helpful. We encourage labs.
- 27:34Speaker 1: We encourage comprehensive labs in understanding what's optimal for you personally.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Perimenopause isn't just this, like, here's your diagnosis. It is
- 27:44Speaker 1: a time and space. So many women get so confused.
- 27:47Speaker 1: You're like, oh my god, my doctor told me I
- 27:49Speaker 1: was in perimenopause.
- 27:50Speaker 3: I go cool, me too.
- 27:52Speaker 1: All perimenopause means is you are in this fluctuating space
- 27:57Speaker 1: of life. For most women, it starts right around. For me,
- 28:01Speaker 1: it hit at thirty eight. I've had other clients that
- 28:03Speaker 1: hit at thirty five, thirty six, but it's really towards
- 28:06Speaker 1: forty that we feel it. And then we do not
- 28:09Speaker 1: hit menopause until we have seized our mensies for an
- 28:14Speaker 1: entire year. Okay, So saddle up. This is going to
- 28:19Speaker 1: be a second and this is where we need to
- 28:21Speaker 1: validate the symptoms and things that we're feeling, but are
- 28:25Speaker 1: you doing all the things?
- 28:27Speaker 3: Okay, So if you are.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Going to go down the rabbit hole of HRT, and
- 28:32Speaker 1: I'm going to say it this way, is you need
- 28:34Speaker 1: a provider that is going to look at your labs
- 28:37Speaker 1: preferably every ninety days, and you're going to have to
- 28:41Speaker 1: evaluate how did I respond? Do I need to change
- 28:44Speaker 1: in dose? You know, even for myself, I have been
- 28:47Speaker 1: checking my labs for these last two years, and for
- 28:50Speaker 1: the first time I saw my trends going down to
- 28:53Speaker 1: where I needed some support with testosterone. And it actually
- 28:57Speaker 1: makes a lot of sense because I wasn't feeling a
- 28:59Speaker 1: whole lot of of symptoms, but I was trying to
- 29:02Speaker 1: put muscle mass on and I'm like, man, what is
- 29:04Speaker 1: going on? Like it just feels like I'm having to
- 29:06Speaker 1: work harder to put it on. And so it can
- 29:10Speaker 1: be helpful, but full disclosure, you've got to keep doing
- 29:13Speaker 1: your labs to understand am I good? Am I not good?
- 29:16Speaker 1: Is it shooting it through the roof?
- 29:17Speaker 3: Is it too much?
- 29:19Speaker 1: And you need to constantly make adjustments. This is hands
- 29:22Speaker 1: down why most doctors choose not to do a hormone
- 29:26Speaker 1: replacement therapy. Because it's a lot and it takes a
- 29:29Speaker 1: lot to manage. Okay, but there can be some really,
- 29:33Speaker 1: really great providers out there who have really taken the
- 29:35Speaker 1: time and have clinical experience that is priceless. So your
- 29:40Speaker 1: supplements they're going to fill a specific need. We prefer
- 29:44Speaker 1: that you supplement what you're deficient in that you're not
- 29:47Speaker 1: getting from real food. Okay, it doesn't mask not eating well,
- 29:54Speaker 1: we're not exercising, okay, but none of these eliminate the
- 29:59Speaker 1: need for having muscle on our body, for having really
- 30:03Speaker 1: good nutrition most of the time, sleep recovery, and a
- 30:07Speaker 1: sustainable habit behavior. So a tool can support our strategy.
- 30:12Speaker 1: A tool should never become the entire strategy. Doctors should never,
- 30:17Speaker 1: ever ever prescribe a GLP without someone having proper coaching
- 30:22Speaker 1: and support around muscle nutrition and progressive resistance training. It
- 30:27Speaker 1: just shouldn't be allowed. But there's so much money to
- 30:29Speaker 1: be had that it's never going to change. So we've
- 30:34Speaker 1: got to stop chasing our symptoms because women will tell
- 30:37Speaker 1: me all the time, I have belly fat, It must
- 30:40Speaker 1: be my cortisol. Oh, it's my cortisol, belly un listen.
- 30:42Speaker 1: I freaking hate the internet for all the confusion. Also,
- 30:46Speaker 1: to anyone can say they're an expert in this industry,
- 30:50Speaker 1: you need to know that they have a degree in this,
- 30:53Speaker 1: they're highly educated in this, and their certifications weren't just
- 30:57Speaker 1: some weekend certification.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Right.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Anyone can say they're a nutritionist. So this is a
- 31:03Speaker 1: term that gets thrown around all the time. I have
- 31:05Speaker 1: women tell me, oh, I have a nutritionist through my insurance,
- 31:09Speaker 1: and I'm like, cool, how's that working?
- 31:10Speaker 3: Whoa not seeing any results? Cool?
- 31:13Speaker 1: That person doesn't have to have any credentials at all.
- 31:17Speaker 1: So another thing that I hear is aaron, I'm just tired.
- 31:21Speaker 1: It has to be my estrogen. I can't lose weight,
- 31:24Speaker 1: must be my thyroid? Maybe okay, But symptoms can have
- 31:29Speaker 1: multiple causes. So instead of diagnosing yourself from Instagram, become curious.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Ask what does my sleep look like? Is it really
- 31:39Speaker 1: that good or is it pretty rough? What does my
- 31:42Speaker 1: nutrition actually look like? Am I eating whole real foods?
- 31:47Speaker 3: You know? Do I need to lose some weight? Okay?
- 31:49Speaker 1: Do I know how to actually partner the right foods
- 31:52Speaker 1: to do that? Am I progressively strength training? Do you
- 31:56Speaker 1: understand what overloads should look like? How much should you
- 32:01Speaker 1: move your body. How am I recovering? This is a
- 32:04Speaker 1: big one that most women miss because you're a driver.
- 32:07Speaker 1: You're going to get after it, and by god, we're
- 32:10Speaker 1: going to run the marathon. Okay, love you any of
- 32:12Speaker 1: my clients that are training for a marathon right now.
- 32:15Speaker 3: That was not a slam.
- 32:16Speaker 1: But I give women a hard time just because I'm
- 32:19Speaker 1: a recovering runner and running is just hands down not
- 32:23Speaker 1: positive in this perimenopausal menopausal space of life because we
- 32:28Speaker 1: can overtrain. Then, especially if you're trying to lose weight,
- 32:32Speaker 1: then it's like, you know, you're you're creating a calorie
- 32:35Speaker 1: deficit that's so deep that like you're going to eat
- 32:38Speaker 1: your arm, and then we typically do because it's so
- 32:41Speaker 1: hard when you've trained and you need more calories. So
- 32:45Speaker 1: I tell my clients like, get to the goal, hey,
- 32:48Speaker 1: then we can add this back in or you know
- 32:50Speaker 1: the whole deal with high rocks and all that stuff now,
- 32:53Speaker 1: which hands down, I would love this stuff. Now, personally,
- 32:56Speaker 1: I'm not going to go do it because I want
- 32:57Speaker 1: to put more muscle on my body and it's just
- 32:59Speaker 1: counter productive. Or you have to really be okay with
- 33:04Speaker 1: what your nutrition needs to look like, and you have
- 33:06Speaker 1: to get through. So for all my women that want
- 33:08Speaker 1: to do all this fun stuff, I'm with you. Get
- 33:11Speaker 1: your body in a really, really good spot and then
- 33:14Speaker 1: you can play with it. Okay, don't guess at a
- 33:17Speaker 1: diagnosis when you could investigate the whole picture. This is
- 33:21Speaker 1: where most women don't know how to put together the
- 33:23Speaker 1: whole picture. So your body needs a new strategy, not punishment. Okay,
- 33:30Speaker 1: this will be emotional. Maybe the strategy that worked for
- 33:34Speaker 1: you at twenty seven isn't going to be the strategy
- 33:37Speaker 1: here at forty seven. And it's okay. It doesn't mean
- 33:41Speaker 1: you've failed. It means you have changed. Stop punishing your
- 33:46Speaker 1: changing body by eating less, training harder, add in more
- 33:50Speaker 1: cardio orange theory f forty five, all these crazy workouts
- 33:54Speaker 1: like again, they would be fun CrossFit.
- 33:57Speaker 3: We'll throw that in there.
- 33:59Speaker 1: By and another supplement, please stop, save yourself some money.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Okay, most of them, you're just yeah.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Unless you order labs, there's no purpose to taking a supplement,
- 34:09Speaker 1: and those supplements need to.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Have rhyme and reason.
- 34:12Speaker 1: What does this version of my body need from Mekay?
- 34:17Speaker 1: This is a very very different relationship asking yourself what
- 34:20Speaker 1: does this version? Okay, this new version of myself. What
- 34:24Speaker 1: does it need? What does my body need from me?
- 34:29Speaker 1: So I want you to stop waiting to be fixed, okay,
- 34:35Speaker 1: Like I just need to get on HRT and that's
- 34:36Speaker 1: going to solve all my life problems, okay, because for
- 34:39Speaker 1: most women it doesn't. For most women, it does make
- 34:42Speaker 1: you feel better, and that's very very important. I talk
- 34:44Speaker 1: about that all the time. Or they'll get on a golp.
- 34:47Speaker 1: And again, I'm a huge fan of golps. But you
- 34:50Speaker 1: gotta do it the right way so you don't have
- 34:55Speaker 1: to wait for perfect hormones, perfect labs, which I'm just
- 34:58Speaker 1: going to tell you after doing my labs of a
- 35:00Speaker 1: jillion times now, they're never going to be perfect, okay,
- 35:03Speaker 1: Like even myself, like I seek perfection and I'm like,
- 35:07Speaker 1: oh wow, my cholesterol is still off the charts. Cool,
- 35:10Speaker 1: still trying to figure that one out. But for me,
- 35:12Speaker 1: I've just stayed very very curious, and I run additional
- 35:15Speaker 1: testing and I've had you know, the calcium score heart
- 35:18Speaker 1: scans done, which I have a calcium score of zero,
- 35:21Speaker 1: So okay, what gives right? And I'm still trying to
- 35:25Speaker 1: figure out what hits that and what doesn't. So it
- 35:30Speaker 1: doesn't need to be perfect hormones, perfect labs, perfect sleep,
- 35:33Speaker 1: perfect motivation, or the perfect phase of your cycle before
- 35:39Speaker 1: you start taking care of you. Okay, you can begin
- 35:43Speaker 1: building this woman you want to become right now, and
- 35:49Speaker 1: every workout, every meal, every bedtime, walk, boundary and recovery
- 35:54Speaker 1: decision becomes your evidence. I am a woman who knows
- 35:58Speaker 1: how to care for this body in this season of life. Okay,
- 36:03Speaker 1: this is really important because your hormones matter, perimenopause matters,
- 36:08Speaker 1: menopause matters, your symptoms deserve to be taken seriously, and
- 36:14Speaker 1: sometimes medical treatment is absolutely needs to be.
- 36:17Speaker 3: In this conversation.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Okay, but I don't want to ever hear someone walking
- 36:23Speaker 1: away believing this is happening to me. Therefore there's nothing
- 36:28Speaker 1: I can do. There is so much you can influence
- 36:32Speaker 1: your strength, nutrition, recovery, habits, environment, your mindset, your willingness
- 36:40Speaker 1: to advocate for the appropriate medical care.
- 36:44Speaker 3: When you need it.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Okay, So I want you to stop making your hormones
- 36:49Speaker 1: the villain, start understanding them, supporting your body, and taking
- 36:56Speaker 1: ownership of everything that's within your power. For most women,
- 37:01Speaker 1: I sincerely empower them on Hey, this is what your
- 37:05Speaker 1: nutrition actually needs to look like for so many women,
- 37:09Speaker 1: they're like, damn, I was overeating okay, And it's really
- 37:14Speaker 1: helping a woman understand what's appropriate okay, and understanding what's
- 37:20Speaker 1: an appropriate calorie deficit for how long? And again, it
- 37:24Speaker 1: all has to work with your hormones. So you don't
- 37:30Speaker 1: need to ask our body to fight harder. Maybe it's
- 37:37Speaker 1: asking you to learn how to work with it. And
- 37:42Speaker 1: this is what I coach and teach in my Infinite
- 37:44Speaker 1: Women Coaching program. So if this is heading home, because
- 37:48Speaker 1: I know it is, you're listening to this going damn,
- 37:50Speaker 1: this girl is saying all the things that I have said,
- 37:53Speaker 1: I want you to know that there's real help out there.
- 37:56Speaker 3: I am a real person.
- 37:57Speaker 1: I've been doing this for a hot minute. I've been
- 38:00Speaker 1: in business for eighteen almost nineteen years, Okay, I'm not
- 38:04Speaker 1: twenty thirty something. We're not going to just count cute macros,
- 38:08Speaker 1: but we're going to lean into the right strategies that
- 38:12Speaker 1: work with your body because we don't need to struggle.
- 38:15Speaker 1: You don't need to struggle through this anymore. You need
- 38:17Speaker 1: a life with a strategy
