- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, Demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam Smith in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here and you're about to listen to a sleep
- 0:42hypnosis session all about helping you have a sense of calm
- 0:47and clarity. And it's designed to do 2
- 0:50things. One, help you have a really good
- 0:52night's sleep. And secondly, have suggestions
- 0:56that make you feel that those things that you've been worrying
- 0:58about, those what if questions about things going horribly
- 1:01wrong actually instead gives you a feeling that whatever comes
- 1:06up, you can handle it. And actually give you this
- 1:08feeling of resilience and calm and optimism that even if life
- 1:13throws some difficult things, you've got the resources to
- 1:16manage it. And by the way, it's better to
- 1:19believe that and be wrong than believe that things are going to
- 1:23go horribly wrong and be right. So therefore, this is a much
- 1:28better belief system, even if you believe that everything's
- 1:32going to be fine. But the key caveat is that if
- 1:35something happens, you have the resources to handle it.
- 1:39And that's a very important suggestion because that is the
- 1:42suggestion of resilience rather than what if this horrible thing
- 1:46happens and you can't handle it is exactly the thought structure
- 1:50of anxiety. So if you get anxious, if you
- 1:53worry about things while you're sleeping, I think you're going
- 1:55to get some value from this session.
- 1:57And if you want something created just for you, check out
- 2:00my website Adamcoxco UK. We'll have a look in the
- 2:04descripcion for various links and resources that might help
- 2:07you in a different way. But for now, find a quiet,
- 2:10comfortable place where you won't be distracted or
- 2:12disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 2:42Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 2:50wonderful feeling of calm and relaxation.
- 2:56And as you exhale, just allow yourself to feel that you have
- 3:03permission to feel whatever you feel.
- 3:09There is no obligation to feel relaxed if you're not relaxed,
- 3:16to try and create stress or anxiety if your body doesn't
- 3:20need it. In the same way that you can't
- 3:25change the seasons or change the weather, just imagine that
- 3:32sometimes emotions come up and emotions go away, and not once
- 3:42has any emotion been permanent. All emotions are temporary, and
- 3:52you've experienced thousands of emotions, and not once has any
- 4:00emotion been impossible to manage.
- 4:07You managed every single one, and therefore all emotions are
- 4:13temporary and all emotions are manageable.
- 4:19And the more you think about that, the truer it becomes.
- 4:26And sometimes the moment you evaluate something as manageable
- 4:31and temporary, it has a very different connotation.
- 4:39The big scary monster becomes the little mouse running away.
- 4:47The thing that was haunting you now becomes as meaningless as a
- 4:52shadow, knowing that it exists but has no power over you.
- 5:01So as you breathe in and breathe out, I want you to imagine a
- 5:05time when you fell asleep in a place where it might be more
- 5:12challenging to fall asleep. Maybe an uncomfortable chair in
- 5:19a public place. But I want you to imagine that
- 5:23you are observing you. Rather than reliving the moment,
- 5:30float back-to-back then and see yourself moments before you
- 5:36drifted off. And maybe there were clues your
- 5:43eyelids started getting heavier where you were blinking more
- 5:48often, or the muscles in your neck just lost their ability to
- 5:54keep your head up, and you nodded downwards, maybe more
- 5:58than once. And as you observe that version
- 6:02of you, you can't help but come to a conclusion that if you can
- 6:09sleep there, you can sleep anywhere.
- 6:14Because that wasn't the best place to sleep, and yet you were
- 6:19falling asleep anyway. And that is because sometimes
- 6:27the best way to fall asleep is not to try at all.
- 6:34To just allow your body to do what your body is already
- 6:41capable of doing. And when you see that version of
- 6:46you nodding off into that deep sleep in the most inappropriate
- 6:51of places, I want you to float into that version of you and
- 6:59feel connected with the idea that you can drift off into deep
- 7:04relaxation and inward space even if people are around.
- 7:13But imagine you're having a dream.
- 7:16A dream of being in the most comfortable bed that's ever been
- 7:22created. Let's go from the worst place to
- 7:26sleep to the very best place to sleep.
- 7:31And I want you to imagine that your bed is in a quiet place,
- 7:36the temperature just right, fresh air.
- 7:43Imagine no loud sounds around. Imagine privacy even.
- 7:50Imagine the materials conducive to making you feel safe and
- 7:58relaxed. You might imagine Egyptian
- 8:04cotton, silk sheets, soft duvets, A fragrance linked to
- 8:14relaxation. And as I countdown from 5 to 1,
- 8:19I want you to imagine a dream within a dream.
- 8:25There you are, in that uncomfortable place, dreaming
- 8:30that you're in a place that is perfect.
- 8:33And then imagine 5 getting more relaxed, 4 eyelids heavier, 3
- 8:40drifting deeper now two and one drifting in a dream deeper
- 8:49still. And I want you to imagine that
- 8:56in that dream you can allow any thoughts to come up that might
- 9:02feel real or not real. But isn't it strange that when
- 9:08you're dreaming, it all feels real, whether it makes sense or
- 9:13not? It's only when you awake you
- 9:19even have a clue that it was just a dream.
- 9:25One of the strange things about sleep is that the harder someone
- 9:31tries to make it happen, the further away it seems to drift.
- 9:36And what if sleep is something that arrives when you make less
- 9:44effort? And so for now, the goal is not
- 9:50to sleep, it's just to imagine a dream within a dream based on
- 9:55the idea of sleeping, giving yourself the simple permission
- 10:02to just rest and relax. And there's been times in your
- 10:11life that something was difficult because there was
- 10:15pressure, and the same thing without this pressure became
- 10:20easy. When you remove the pressure, it
- 10:24changes everything to breathe in a feeling of relaxation, exhale
- 10:31any tension. Dreaming within a dream within a
- 10:35dream. How many people discover
- 10:41something curious about anxiety that often it's not the anxiety
- 10:48itself linked to something, it's the anxiety about the idea of
- 10:58being anxious that creates the very anxiety you're looking to
- 11:03avoid. Thoughts like what if I feel
- 11:09anxious? What if I can't sleep?
- 11:13What if tomorrow is ruined because I can't get to sleep?
- 11:18And what if that prompts the mind to try to solve a problem
- 11:24that hasn't actually happened yet?
- 11:29And then not knowing if you can solve a problem that hasn't
- 11:31happened creates more anxiety about what will happen if you
- 11:37can't, which creates more tension, which creates more
- 11:42awareness, which creates the very physiological reactions the
- 11:47mind was trying to avoid. Like a loop.
- 11:54You've seen it once or twice where a microphone gets too
- 11:58close to a speaker and creates that horrible feedback loop.
- 12:06Something feeding on something. Feeding on something creates a
- 12:10horrible screech. Loops can be broken, and one of
- 12:17the simplest ways is to stop fighting the experience.
- 12:25Anxiety is not an enemy, it's just information, the signal, a
- 12:31prompt, a messenger. Within that dream, within a
- 12:40dream, I want you to imagine a giant pendulum swinging.
- 12:46And on one side of the pendulum are the things you control, like
- 12:50your breathing, your choices, your perspective.
- 12:55And when it swings the other way, on the other side are all
- 12:59those things you cannot control. Other people's thoughts, the
- 13:07exact moment that sleep arrives, Tomorrow's outcomes that you
- 13:13don't control. And sometimes anxiety appears
- 13:21when the mind tries to control the side of the pendulum that
- 13:26was never meant to be controlled.
- 13:31Peace does not come from controlling everything.
- 13:36Peace comes from knowing what doesn't require control.
- 13:42If you can't control it, then accept it and focus your
- 13:48attention on controlling those things that you can control.
- 13:53And sleep is one of those things you can influence but never
- 13:59quite control. Sleep comes when the body
- 14:05realizes there is no problem left to solve, or that can be
- 14:12solved right now, and when you accept that there's nothing that
- 14:17needs to be done. Quite often the problem solving
- 14:24part of the brain just drifts off to the very sleep that you
- 14:30will be joining it. And I wonder if you can imagine,
- 14:36just for a moment, that anxiety is not a problem.
- 14:44Imagine instead that anxiety is simply a signpost, a quiet nudge
- 14:53from the mind saying something here deserves attention.
- 15:02Not panic, not alarm, just curiosity.
- 15:11And when anxiety is treated as a signpost rather than a threat,
- 15:20something positively unusual happens.
- 15:26The emotional intensity reduces because the mind no longer needs
- 15:33to shout. It can become more subtle.
- 15:44And I wonder if it could have a new meaning.
- 15:48Some of the most insightful people in the world developed
- 15:53their understanding because they were sensitive, because they
- 15:58noticed things, because they reflected deeply.
- 16:06Anxiety often belongs to people who care, people who think,
- 16:12people who imagine possibilities.
- 16:17And what if those same abilities can be tamed and harnessed to
- 16:23become strengths? The ability to notice emotions
- 16:29creates empathy, and the ability to imagine outcomes creates
- 16:35creativity. The ability to reflect creates
- 16:41wisdom. Anxiety does not have to mean
- 16:46suffering. It can mean awareness.
- 16:52And awareness can become anything you choose it to be.
- 16:58Awareness can be expression, freedom, curiosity, even
- 17:05excitement or challenge. And what if anxiety became a
- 17:16challenge to figure out a new way of thinking about the thing
- 17:24itself? Where focus goes, energy flows.
- 17:31What if anxiety becomes a puzzle?
- 17:36All that signpost, all that challenge.
- 17:43And sooner or later you will want to feel the anxiety because
- 17:52when you respond to it, once you solve the puddle and that puzzle
- 18:00is solved. But once you accomplish the
- 18:04challenge or interpret the signpost, and that same anxiety
- 18:11becomes elusive because you've already met the underlying need.
- 18:21And you may remember that there are situations where calmness
- 18:27comes naturally, moments where the mind feels capable.
- 18:34Situations where you trust yourself.
- 18:39I want you to think of times when you're helping others.
- 18:43Maybe it's when you're mediating difficult conversations or doing
- 18:49something social. When you feel relaxed, letting
- 18:54loose, or resourceful. And those experiences aren't
- 19:00just memories. They prove something
- 19:06irrefutable, that the ability to remain calm, to give things a
- 19:14meaning that works for you, already exists within.
- 19:21It simply appears more easily when the mind believes it has
- 19:26options, and the same options exist here.
- 19:32You can rest, you can think, you can lie quietly, and you can
- 19:39even detach from the anxiety, observing it like clouds in the
- 19:46sky or leaves on a stream, and still be completely safe.
- 19:58There's an old idea that pain is inevitable, but suffering is
- 20:03optional. Pain is simply sensation, but
- 20:09suffering is the story we attach to it.
- 20:14And I want you to imagine that you will give new stories to
- 20:17anxiety that mean that even if they come along, you consider
- 20:24them temporary, manageable, and dare I say it, even useful to
- 20:32help you grow, evolve, become more resilient.
- 20:37Because when you know how to tame anxiety, to make it work
- 20:41for you rather than against you, it becomes an ally rather than
- 20:46an enemy. The next time anxiety appears,
- 20:57set yourself the challenge to get as curious as possible.
- 21:07And you know the sounds attached to curiosity.
- 21:12You know the thinking noise is like.
- 21:21And notice how difficult it is to feel curious and anxious at
- 21:27the same time. The more curious you become, the
- 21:33more elusive anxiety is. But you might catch the tale of
- 21:38it before it goes to give it a new meaning or learn something
- 21:43valuable to make it work for you.
- 21:46And while you're there, in a dream within a dream within a
- 21:53dream, you now have choices. Very soon I will count from 1:00
- 22:01to 10:00, and if you desire to awake when I reach the number
- 22:0710, you will awaken. But if you desire, because the
- 22:14timing is right, to drift into an even deeper sleep, then when
- 22:22I count from 1:00 to 10:00, it will give you permission to
- 22:27transition into deep, rejuvenating, wonderful,
- 22:34relaxing sleep. And you will only awake at the
- 22:39appropriate time when you've got the sleep that you need.
- 22:46Starting to count 123. 45. 6789 and 10.
