- 0:03Welcome to This Daring Adventure Podcast, where we work on bridging the gap between where we are and where we want to be in order to live a bigger and bolder life.
- 0:14In this podcast, we will provide inspiration, tips, and skills you need to make your life the adventure you want it to be.
- 0:22Here is your host, mindset mentor and life coach, Trista Guertin.
- 0:33Trista: Hey, everybody.
- 0:35Trista: So it's been a while since I've released an episode.
- 0:39Trista: It was an impromptu sabbatical, I guess you would call it, summer break, but I'm back.
- 0:48Trista: And I have been thinking about doing this episode for the last 10 days, and I'm finally just recording it on my phone for you because I think it's an important topic and I hesitated to share some of this
- 1:06Trista: because sometimes it feels a little woo, but it's really been working for me.
- 1:12Trista: So this episode is me sharing three things that have been highly effective and helpful in shifting how I'm showing up, my identity, and my results.
- 1:31Trista: So the first one, and I've been doing this for a while, this isn't something new, but it is processing emotions When I first started coaching, my coach taught about feeling our emotions.
- 1:54Trista: It's not something that we learn, but it's Very, very important.
- 2:01Trista: And it's a game changer Especially in coaching, either being coached or coaching yourself and trying to create results.
- 2:16Trista: Because our human experience includes a full range of emotions, and I don't try to label emotions good or bad or right or wrong, but there are some very intense emotions and some that are very helpful, lift you up.
- 2:36Trista: They're at the higher end of the spectrum.
- 2:38Trista: There's a higher vibration, higher energy, and they're definitely more helpful At times, I find myself getting frustrated, stressed, annoyed, upset, nervous, all the things from time to time And Learning how to process those emotions, how to experience those
- 3:07Trista: emotions without eating a pint of ice cream or a bag of chips or several glasses of wine, without pushing it away, telling myself I shouldn't be feeling that way, resisting it, making it stronger and making it last longer
- 3:26Trista: And reacting to it.
- 3:30Trista: Slamming doors, getting really even more upset, angrier, taking my frustration out on the people around me I've learned to allow the emotion and to feel it.
- 3:46Trista: And that just basically means you sit, you drop into your body, you relax, and you feel that emotion, and you allow it to be there for a couple of minutes, focusing on just feeling it in your body, wherever
- 4:05Trista: it is.
- 4:07Trista: And again, there's no right or wrong answer.
- 4:09Trista: It could be in your neck, it could be in your chest, your stomach, your back, your head.
- 4:15Trista: I've done this work with clients many times.
- 4:18Trista: The emotions show up in different places.
- 4:21Trista: Sometimes for me it shows up in my right shoulder.
- 4:25Trista: No right or wrong answer.
- 4:28Trista: Just allow it.
- 4:29Trista: Breathe into it.
- 4:30Trista: Sit with it.
- 4:31Trista: Be patient.
- 4:31Trista: Remind yourself to be patient and just sink into that emotion.
- 4:37Trista: Breathe into it.
- 4:38Trista: Allow it to be there for a couple of minutes, and it will start to move through you and it will start to dissipate.
- 4:44Trista: And what happens is you let it go and you become calmer.
- 4:52Trista: And when you're calmer, your nervous system can reset and your prefrontal cortex, your thinking brain, is back online.
- 5:01Trista: And that's the time that you can start to be intentional about what you're thinking, what you wanna think, how you wanna feel, how you wanna show up, who you wanna be.
- 5:16Trista: All of these things that you can't do when you're in the midst of these really strong emotions It's freeing.
- 5:27Trista: It makes me calmer overall, and it's a very powerful practice so that you are not being held hostage by some of these emotional charges It gives me clarity, it gives me focus, and it gives me freedom I still
- 5:53Trista: get strong emotions from time to time.
- 5:55Trista: I do believe that I don't get them as often as I did before.
- 6:00Trista: But when they occur, for whatever reason, whatever it is, I know I can, I can experience them and move through them relatively easily, relatively quickly, which is, helpful And moving on to something else that is more helpful The
- 6:30Trista: next practice has been to breathe, and I do this physiological sigh.
- 6:40Trista: I heard about this from Andrew Huberman.
- 6:43Trista: I don't know if he created it.
- 6:45Trista: Doesn't matter.
- 6:46Trista: If he did, then it's his.
- 6:48Trista: It, it may have come from somewhere else.
- 6:51Trista: But it's this double inhale, hold, and then a release for six.
- 7:00Trista: So what I do is I inhale twice hold for two, and then release for six That breath really works for me.
- 7:16Trista: It calms my nervous system.
- 7:20Trista: I often do it after I have processed an emotion.
- 7:27Trista: I find it very helpful.
- 7:28Trista: Again, processing that emotion and then calming my nervous system.
- 7:33Trista: But you don't have to do them together.
- 7:37Trista: Sometimes I just wake up, and before I start my meditation, I'm doing that breathwork for a couple of minutes beforehand.
- 7:50Trista: I find it has made me so much calmer, so much more focused, and there's just a greater sense of ease for myself and my body and my mind It has been game-changing I do this several times a day.
- 8:11Trista: It's relatively easy to do it without anybody noticing it And you can do it as often as you'd like.
- 8:21Trista: I certainly recommend doing it first thing in the morning.
- 8:25Trista: I certainly include it in any meditation that I'm doing, but it has been game-changing.
- 8:33Trista: It has reset my nervous system to such a degree that it has been-- it literally has been life-changing.
- 8:42Trista: I can't recommend it enough, and when you do it in tandem or as a complement to processing emotion, it's very powerful work It completely helps you reset And the important thing is that this work doesn't just help you
- 9:08Trista: reset and feel better in the moment, but it helps to build resilience.
- 9:15Trista: And overall, you become less reactive So processing emotions and doing that physiological sigh.
- 9:27Trista: Two inhales, hold for two, exhale for six.
- 9:32Trista: Do that three times.
- 9:36Trista: There's nothing else like it If you have another breathing technique that you find works for you, that's great.
- 9:44Trista: I find this one works beautifully for me.
- 9:48Trista: I encourage you to try it.
- 9:51Trista: But if you have another breathing technique that works really well for you, use it.
- 9:56Trista: Incorporate it into your day, into your routines as much as possible.
- 10:05Trista: The third thing that has really changed my life over the last few months is a practice I picked up.
- 10:15Trista: Again, I'm not exactly sure where I picked this up.
- 10:21Trista: I will say there's a 99% chance that I picked it up on Instagram But it's the practice of saying, "Thank you, universe.
- 10:37Trista: More, please.
- 10:39Trista: I'm ready."
- 10:41Trista: And I have been using that also in conjunction with processing my emotions, doing the breathing, and then saying this phrase, these phrases out loud.
- 10:53Trista: I generate a sense of gratitude at the same time.
- 10:58Trista: You can focus on one thing, you can focus on a few things.
- 11:01Trista: But if you've processed the emotion, you've done the breathing, you've reset your nervous system, and then you're thanking the universe, asking for more, letting it know that you are ready for more, and generating that feeling of gratitude, appreciation
- 11:23Trista: It's very powerful.
- 11:26Trista: It works.
- 11:27Trista: I have been doing these for the last few months, and I tell you, my life has changed significantly.
- 11:34Trista: There's something about maybe the combination of the three that works.
- 11:41Trista: I also do some meditation.
- 11:44Trista: I also do some journaling.
- 11:46Trista: I will, I will talk about that in future episodes.
- 11:50Trista: But as I said, I really wanted to share these with you.
- 11:55Trista: They're a little bit woo, maybe.
- 11:59Trista: I understand that, but I will tell you, as I said, over the last four and a half, five months I've been doing this practice pretty much every day.
- 12:10Trista: And you don't need to process your emotions every single day.
- 12:13Trista: It's when something comes up.
- 12:14Trista: I found myself in a situation where I had to do it pretty intensely for a week back in April, and then I've also really needed to do it over the last five, six weeks.
- 12:30Trista: But just taking that time to tap into your emotions, sit quietly, see what's coming up, how you're feeling, a- anything.
- 12:42Trista: It-- and it doesn't have to be super powerful, super intense.
- 12:47Trista: Sometimes just taking a minute to just tap in and just release whatever's there, feel it, and let it move through you is enough, and then combining it with the sigh and, and thanking the universe.
- 13:02Trista: Try it.
- 13:02Trista: Let me know how it goes.
- 13:04Trista: But these are some of my most favorite practices right now, and I've been doing them every single day, and it's changed my life.
- 13:14Trista: So try them out, and thank you for being here.
- 13:19Trista: Thank you for listening.
- 13:21Trista: If you're interested in taking some of this work deeper and are interested in maybe exploring working with me one-to-one in private coaching, I am now taking on new clients.
- 13:35Trista: I have set up some spots for consultations, so you come, do a forty-five-minute consultation with me.
- 13:46Trista: Let's talk.
- 13:46Trista: Tell me what's going on.
- 13:48Trista: I will tell you if I can help and how I can help and what that program looks like.
- 13:54Trista: Over the next few weeks, I will be articulating more what the program looks like and how it, how it changes lives.
- 14:03Trista: But for now, if you're, you know you're interested and you're ready to, to maybe get started, you can click the link in the show notes, get on my calendar, book yourself in.
- 14:16Trista: Come meet me.
- 14:17Trista: Let's talk.
- 14:18Trista: There's no pressure.
- 14:19Trista: There's no obligation.
- 14:21Trista: It's free.
- 14:22Trista: But tell me what's going on.
- 14:24Trista: And stay tuned for more episodes.
- 14:28Trista: I will be back doing this regularly, and I will tell you more and more about the work that I'm doing in my personal life, my, my professional life, and the work that I'm doing with my clients.
- 14:41Trista: It's really exciting.
- 14:42Trista: I'm really proud of the work that we're doing, and I'm really excited about the future.
- 14:49Trista: And if you are feeling stuck, please know that that is not terminal I can help you change how you're feeling, how you're showing up, and help you change your life to really living on your own terms, to creating
- 15:09Trista: whatever it is you want, to shifting that identity, doing that work and helping you get unstuck with tools and skills that you will be able to use for the rest of your life.
- 15:26Trista: Just like these three tools that I, I mentioned today and shared with you Coaching helps you to apply this work directly to your life and teaches you how to do this work for the rest of your life because
- 15:44Trista: you don't have to stay stuck.
- 15:46Trista: And if you're feeling like you're meant for more, it's because you are So I hope to see you soon.
- 15:55Trista: Thanks everybody.
- 15:56Trista: I'll talk to you next week.
- 15:58Trista: Bye-bye
