- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it. She's on the Money, She's on
- 0:37Speaker 2: the Money. Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money,
- 1:00Speaker 2: the podcast for millennials who want financial freedom. Welcome back
- 1:04Speaker 2: to another one of our money diaries where we get
- 1:07Speaker 2: to talk with one of our incredible She's on the
- 1:09Speaker 2: Money community members all about their money story. Let's jump
- 1:13Speaker 2: straight into it, because this week I got a message
- 1:16Speaker 2: and it sounded exactly like this. Hi Victoria. I came
- 1:19Speaker 2: to Australia from Brazil five years ago as a student
- 1:22Speaker 2: with one thousand dollars and now I make one hundred
- 1:26Speaker 2: and eighty thousand dollars a year plus working in mining.
- 1:30Speaker 2: From working on a cruise ship to doing air Tasker,
- 1:33Speaker 2: I have sacrificed and saved, and I have finally made
- 1:36Speaker 2: my way up the pay brackets. I love she's on
- 1:39Speaker 2: the money and cannot wait to share my can do
- 1:42Speaker 2: story with you. Ah money darrist I can't wait to
- 1:45Speaker 2: hear your can do story either. Are you joking? From
- 1:48Speaker 2: doing air tasker to earning one hundred and eighty grand
- 1:51Speaker 2: a year? Are you kidding?
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yes? Yes, looking back, I cannot even believe that I
- 1:57Speaker 3: lived so many lives, I worked in so many things,
- 2:00Speaker 3: and now I'm here having a leadership position in a
- 2:05Speaker 3: very major dominated industry and like just thriving.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Queen, absolute queen behavior. I love to see it. Let's
- 2:14Speaker 2: get into it because I am very excited. It's a
- 2:17Speaker 2: very inspirational story. Let's start the way I always start money.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Dis tell me if I asked you to give yourself
- 2:23Speaker 2: a money grade from A through to F, what would
- 2:26Speaker 2: that grade be.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I think I would be a grade B because I
- 2:32Speaker 3: think I'm good at savings. But I also like I'm
- 2:37Speaker 3: a Taurus, so I think I like to indulge myself.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Into Yeah, that's going to get you.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Yes, especially traveling. So I travel a lot, so I
- 2:48Speaker 3: could be better at savings, but I think I'm pretty
- 2:51Speaker 3: good at Yeah.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Look, i'm a Cancerian, so it's like my way or
- 2:55Speaker 2: the highway. If I want a little treaty treat, I
- 2:57Speaker 2: obviously deserve a little treaty treat for doing nothing. So like,
- 3:00Speaker 2: that's absolutely fine, let's get into it. Though you moved
- 3:04Speaker 2: here five years ago from Brazil, tell me more about
- 3:07Speaker 2: your money story.
- 3:09Speaker 3: Yes, So when I was living in Brazil, I'm a
- 3:12Speaker 3: mechanical engineer, so I staid in mechanical engineering. And from
- 3:16Speaker 3: the beginning, my dad always said, you have to have
- 3:18Speaker 3: a spreadsheet, have a spreadsheet for everything.
- 3:21Speaker 2: He's a genius man after my own heart.
- 3:24Speaker 3: He's like, I won't give you one cent if you
- 3:27Speaker 3: don't show me that you were doing a spread cheet
- 3:29Speaker 3: and everything. And then I was like, oh my god,
- 3:32Speaker 3: this is so annoying. This was actually the worst. I
- 3:35Speaker 3: was like, no, this can't be true. I can't do
- 3:38Speaker 3: this for the rest of my life. But I eventually
- 3:42Speaker 3: got into it. I never saved any money. I was
- 3:45Speaker 3: not good with money. I absolutely didn't have any money.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I graduated and with zero savings. But then I was
- 3:54Speaker 3: an adult and in real life, and I had to
- 3:57Speaker 3: fight a job. And I couldn't fight a job. I
- 4:00Speaker 3: had mechanico engineering degree, I knew how to speak English,
- 4:04Speaker 3: I had done internships, but I couldn't find a job.
- 4:08Speaker 2: That's crazy, Yeah, especially because you were so talented and
- 4:12Speaker 2: the fact that you speak honestly such clear English. I mean,
- 4:15Speaker 2: you've been here for five years, but I'm sure that
- 4:17Speaker 2: you've been able to speak English for longer than that.
- 4:19Speaker 2: It's just like wow, Like that's such especially where you're from,
- 4:23Speaker 2: Like that's so valuable.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Yes, it should be. And I graduated from a good
- 4:29Speaker 3: university and with an engineering degree, and I couldn't find
- 4:33Speaker 3: a job. And then that got me. I spent like
- 4:35Speaker 3: six months apply and because I live in a remote
- 4:39Speaker 3: part of Brazil, I had to travel for job interviews.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 4:43Speaker 3: And then it was very heartbreaking for me.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I was gonna say, was that really disheartening? Were you
- 4:47Speaker 2: just really upset? Because I would have just been like
- 4:50Speaker 2: I've tried so hard and i just feel like I'm
- 4:53Speaker 2: getting nowhere.
- 4:54Speaker 3: I got nowhere. I was so heartbroken. It was at
- 4:58Speaker 3: a point of my life. I was like I just
- 5:02Speaker 3: was lying in bed and I was like, what's the point.
- 5:05Speaker 3: What's the point. And then I just decided to get
- 5:09Speaker 3: a job. I said, I'm going to get a job
- 5:11Speaker 3: anywhere they want me to get a job, like they
- 5:14Speaker 3: anywhere they accept me. And then I got a job
- 5:17Speaker 3: in a cruise ship.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Oh cool, I feel like I love this work ethic.
- 5:21Speaker 2: You're like, no, I'm not gonna lie in bed. I
- 5:23Speaker 2: don't care. I'm just going to take any job. You
- 5:26Speaker 2: just applied for a job on a cruise ship one day, yes.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Because my friend said that. I had a friend alongline
- 5:32Speaker 3: friend and he said, I think that if you get
- 5:35Speaker 3: a job in a cruise ship, it'll give you a resilience. Yeah,
- 5:40Speaker 3: And then he said I think that'll be a very
- 5:43Speaker 3: good grow opportunity for you. And then I applied for it.
- 5:46Speaker 3: And then they were like, they literally take anyone that
- 5:49Speaker 3: can speak English.
- 5:51Speaker 2: So I mean, all right, well we've got a job
- 5:54Speaker 2: ten out of ten.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Yes. So I got a job. And then my parents
- 5:58Speaker 3: were not very happy because or like you were an engineer.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Because you can't get a job as an engineer, mom,
- 6:03Speaker 2: that's why.
- 6:03Speaker 3: So I went to the cruise ship and then this
- 6:06Speaker 3: cruise ship. I worked for six months, and let me
- 6:10Speaker 3: tell you, they don't have any days off, like, no
- 6:13Speaker 3: days off, No, not a single day off. You have
- 6:17Speaker 3: to work every day for six months and you only
- 6:21Speaker 3: get paid like five hundred US dollars.
- 6:23Speaker 2: Wait, like a week or a month or a month? No,
- 6:26Speaker 2: absolutely not.
- 6:29Speaker 3: You're going to get paid a month and plus. Because
- 6:32Speaker 3: I was a salesperson, I was getting commissioned, so if
- 6:35Speaker 3: I seld things.
- 6:36Speaker 2: I'd buy stuff from you. So did you make lots
- 6:38Speaker 2: of commissions?
- 6:39Speaker 3: No? In total I would get in between seven hundred
- 6:43Speaker 3: US dollars and a thousand US dollars per month for
- 6:49Speaker 3: six months, but it was working twelve hour days or more.
- 6:54Speaker 2: My gosh, did you enjoy this experience or is that
- 6:57Speaker 2: something you're like, I really want to be in the
- 6:59Speaker 2: engineer now.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I felt like it was a great experience because one
- 7:05Speaker 3: day one lady told me, oh, I used to work
- 7:07Speaker 3: like you did before. And the beadt thing about this
- 7:10Speaker 3: is you're never going to have a worse job ever.
- 7:16Speaker 2: The audacity. I love that. So you can only go
- 7:20Speaker 2: out from here, bab, it can only go out from here.
- 7:22Speaker 3: You can only go up. And then I thought it
- 7:24Speaker 3: was very inspiring actually, because no matter how bad like
- 7:28Speaker 3: I'm feeling about my other jobs, I'm like, I've been
- 7:32Speaker 3: through worse.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Yeah, fair, fair, But I.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Got to travel. It was very fun. It was a
- 7:39Speaker 3: little bit tiring because you worked for eight hours and
- 7:42Speaker 3: then you will have a chance to travel. You were
- 7:44Speaker 3: in Barcelona, but you're like, oh my god, I'm so tired.
- 7:47Speaker 2: They not, Yeah, yes.
- 7:49Speaker 3: But I saved a lot. I saved like three thousand
- 7:51Speaker 3: US dollars. I didn't spend any money shit. I like,
- 7:55Speaker 3: I think it's just something changing in my brain. And
- 7:58Speaker 3: I was really focused to come Australia because I thought
- 8:01Speaker 3: that Australia would be a good place to restart.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Have fresh split.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Yeah, to have a fresh start. And I had saved
- 8:09Speaker 3: those three thousand dollars. It caused me maybe like five
- 8:12Speaker 3: thousand dollars to come to Australia. I know, my dad
- 8:16Speaker 3: helped me with a little bit more money and then
- 8:20Speaker 3: he said, okay, now I have to go. And then
- 8:24Speaker 3: when I arrived here, I had very little money, like
- 8:29Speaker 3: I was nothing. I told you, like one thousand dollars,
- 8:31Speaker 3: two thousand dollars.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Which in this economy doesn't stretch that far, right, when I.
- 8:35Speaker 3: Had to play for Bond, I was living in a
- 8:38Speaker 3: room with two other girls, Like, yeah, wow, my house
- 8:42Speaker 3: had I think, my.
- 8:44Speaker 2: People what and you're all sharing rooms?
- 8:46Speaker 3: All sharing rooms. That was a guy leaving the couch.
- 8:50Speaker 3: It was crowded, but I think it's a lot of
- 8:53Speaker 3: international students come here and they had experienced the same.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:58Speaker 3: So I was here and then I had six months
- 9:02Speaker 3: because I wasn't studying English. I already knew how to
- 9:04Speaker 3: speak English. I was study a Certificate of in Project
- 9:07Speaker 3: Management SMART and I started looking for jobs and it
- 9:12Speaker 3: was I thought. I was like, I'm going to get
- 9:14Speaker 3: into the country. I know how to speak English. It'd
- 9:17Speaker 3: be so easy. It wasn't easy.
- 9:20Speaker 4: No, oh my gosh, it wasn't easy, like as easy
- 9:25Speaker 4: as I thought now that I when I think about it,
- 9:28Speaker 4: it was easier because I could speak English.
- 9:31Speaker 3: But when you're leaving the moment, you're feeling like, oh
- 9:35Speaker 3: my god, whelmed, overwhelmed. I'm in this new country, I
- 9:39Speaker 3: don't know anyone. I'm leaving this room with these two
- 9:42Speaker 3: other girls who I've never met before, and I don't
- 9:46Speaker 3: have a lot of money. So I had to find money.
- 9:49Speaker 3: So I signed up for air test because the other
- 9:52Speaker 3: people that lived with me they told me about it.
- 9:54Speaker 3: And in this air tester, because I didn't have any experience,
- 9:57Speaker 3: no one was and hiring me.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Book to you. Oh no, I'm guilty of that. Honestly.
- 10:03Speaker 2: Whenever I'm booking an air Taska, I'm always like, I
- 10:06Speaker 2: really want this job done. But like, obviously it's people
- 10:09Speaker 2: I've never met before, so I literally just go, oh,
- 10:11Speaker 2: they've got some good reviews, or I'll book them. That
- 10:15Speaker 2: makes me want to book people who don't have any reviews.
- 10:18Speaker 3: It happened.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Sorry, sorry that was me.
- 10:21Speaker 3: It happens. But because I will do that to you,
- 10:24Speaker 3: like I will hire someone who has experienced. But then
- 10:26Speaker 3: I just decided I created a great profile. I put
- 10:30Speaker 3: some pictures so everyone could see like I'm smiley, I'm happy.
- 10:34Speaker 2: A nice lady. Yeah yeah, like if I met you,
- 10:36Speaker 2: i'd book you immediately, that's okay, yes.
- 10:39Speaker 3: And then I noticed that if I got into the
- 10:42Speaker 3: app at like six am or seven am, some people
- 10:47Speaker 3: were posting jobs and no one was there to apply.
- 10:50Speaker 3: And then I was like getting them because I was
- 10:52Speaker 3: a faster, like the fastest.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Yes, smart woman, she's speedy, speedy.
- 10:57Speaker 3: It was all about speed. And then I started growing
- 11:00Speaker 3: and I did so many jobs, like cleaning jobs. I
- 11:03Speaker 3: did handing pamphlets on the streets. I got some flowers
- 11:08Speaker 3: for a guy to propose to his partner.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Oh that's so wholesome.
- 11:13Speaker 3: Yes. And I had like many, many, many opportunities. It
- 11:17Speaker 3: was a jump start, and it gave me a boost
- 11:20Speaker 3: of confidence that I was really needing at the moment.
- 11:22Speaker 3: I just started to have a goal to make like
- 11:25Speaker 3: one thousand dollars per week, and I was like, this
- 11:28Speaker 3: is so impossible. I will never make one thousand dollars
- 11:30Speaker 3: per week.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Did you do it?
- 11:31Speaker 3: Yes?
- 11:32Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, a thousand dollars a week on Air Taska.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Yes. I was doing everything. And then because I was
- 11:38Speaker 3: doing a lot of cleaning jobs and I didn't have
- 11:40Speaker 3: vacuum cleaner, I used to get the vacuum cleaner behind
- 11:44Speaker 3: my flatmates back because they couldn't see that I was
- 11:47Speaker 3: taking the vacuum cleaner and I was taking the vacuum
- 11:49Speaker 3: cleaner on the public transport to clean other people's house.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I love you, You're the best. Not the hustle is real.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Get it clean and no.
- 11:58Speaker 3: I applied for and then I applied for another job.
- 12:01Speaker 3: Who was promotions. It's they give you a stent and
- 12:06Speaker 3: they make you go to supermarkets like you go to woolies.
- 12:09Speaker 3: You go to calls and you have to do sampling.
- 12:12Speaker 3: So you have to give some people. Do you want
- 12:14Speaker 3: to cheese? Do you want to try this cheese? Do
- 12:15Speaker 3: you want to try this yogurt? I told them that
- 12:18Speaker 3: I had a car, but I didn't have a.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Car, a ha ha ha.
- 12:22Speaker 3: I remember, just for the money, and I was getting
- 12:25Speaker 3: those standards. It's big, big, big set up, set up
- 12:31Speaker 3: public transport, and I would go to so many places.
- 12:35Speaker 3: It was insane.
- 12:36Speaker 2: You're crazy, but I love it. And I also like
- 12:39Speaker 2: mad respect for the hustle, like there seems to be
- 12:42Speaker 2: I don't know this underlying, Like you know, people come
- 12:45Speaker 2: in from international and they take our jobs. Like how
- 12:48Speaker 2: many people actually have the resilience and the drive to
- 12:52Speaker 2: do the jobs that you have done? Like I love it.
- 12:55Speaker 2: You deserve everything that comes your way, like that is
- 12:58Speaker 2: the best ever.
- 12:59Speaker 3: That's how I was very focused on staying here because
- 13:03Speaker 3: I love the country. I fell in love. It was
- 13:05Speaker 3: so nice. I was like, I'm living here. I saved
- 13:09Speaker 3: money to go to a migration lawyer and then he said.
- 13:12Speaker 3: I was like, I'm an engineer. I can't stay here.
- 13:15Speaker 3: My skill is in high demand. And he said, oh,
- 13:18Speaker 3: I think. I don't think. Because you have no experience
- 13:21Speaker 3: in engineering, it's not very likely that you migrate. So
- 13:25Speaker 3: you have to get married.
- 13:27Speaker 2: And I was like, what, No, let's get a new
- 13:30Speaker 2: lawyer's let's not talk to him. He sounds like a
- 13:33Speaker 2: bit of a fluff muppet.
- 13:34Speaker 3: I was like, why, no, no way, and then I
- 13:39Speaker 3: told I. Eventually I talked to someone else and they're like, no,
- 13:43Speaker 3: we're going to have this plan for you, and you're
- 13:47Speaker 3: going to study civil engineering a diploma. You're doing to
- 13:50Speaker 3: do a diploma, you're gonna graduate, and then you're gonna
- 13:54Speaker 3: have a graduate visa and it will be allowed to
- 13:57Speaker 3: follow your path. And I was like, yes, this is
- 14:00Speaker 3: the playtime going. And I arrived here in February two,
- 14:03Speaker 3: twenty eighteen, and by June twenty eighteen, I had saved
- 14:10Speaker 3: three thousand dollars four.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, it's the costs. Yeah, good work.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Uh huh.
- 14:17Speaker 2: The hustle was real. I bet you didn't want to
- 14:19Speaker 2: separate with that too quickly.
- 14:20Speaker 3: No, But I was like, I can't do this. I'm
- 14:24Speaker 3: saving so much money. This country is amazing. It would
- 14:27Speaker 3: get better. And then I did. I study. I paid
- 14:30Speaker 3: for my course because when you're international student, you have
- 14:33Speaker 3: to pay as you go. You don't have like hats
- 14:36Speaker 3: or you can get alone. And I paid for everything
- 14:40Speaker 3: and I didn't go out. I was leaving in Brisbane. Yeah,
- 14:44Speaker 3: people asked me, Oh, how about the restaurants in Brisbane.
- 14:47Speaker 2: You're like, I don't know about restaurants in Brisbane. I'm saving.
- 14:50Speaker 3: I don't know. I haven't bought clothes nothing. I was
- 14:54Speaker 3: just saving, saving and study saving and study saving and study.
- 14:59Speaker 3: And then at the end of it, I have like
- 15:01Speaker 3: four thousand layers and savings. And I decided to go
- 15:03Speaker 3: to Japan. I was gonna thirt thirty, and then I
- 15:07Speaker 3: was freaked out.
- 15:08Speaker 2: You're like, I've got to do something big.
- 15:10Speaker 3: I was having a crisis. I was like, I'm thirty,
- 15:13Speaker 3: I have to do something. I've got to Japan. I
- 15:16Speaker 3: was in Japan and I was living my best life.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I love this. I love this.
- 15:21Speaker 3: I thought, I'm going back to Australia and I'm working
- 15:24Speaker 3: as I work, and I'm saving this money back.
- 15:26Speaker 2: It'll be funny exactly.
- 15:28Speaker 3: It wasn't it was March twenty twenty.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Oh no, that's the worst. You got kicked twelve you
- 15:34Speaker 2: were down.
- 15:36Speaker 3: It was March twenty twenty.
- 15:38Speaker 2: I mean, at least you squeazed a holiday in before
- 15:40Speaker 2: the world locks it down. Strategic.
- 15:42Speaker 3: I like it, Yes, And I had to come back
- 15:44Speaker 3: because my boss was calling me and he was like,
- 15:46Speaker 3: is that defent? Borders are gonna close. You have to
- 15:48Speaker 3: come back.
- 15:49Speaker 2: You need to come back, otherwise you're never coming back.
- 15:52Speaker 3: I'm never comming. I I was never going coming back
- 15:54Speaker 3: because the country stay closed for two years.
- 15:57Speaker 2: It was yes, crazy.
- 16:00Speaker 3: I came back and I couldn't find a job because
- 16:02Speaker 3: I worked with hospitality. I worked with international students, and
- 16:06Speaker 3: that's how I paid my course too, because I got
- 16:08Speaker 3: a job in this student agency and they had a discount,
- 16:13Speaker 3: so it was much easier because I had like a
- 16:16Speaker 3: thirty forty percent discount on my course, which was a
- 16:20Speaker 3: very good money saving.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Yeah money wain yeah money.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Wait, Yes, twenty twenty happened, and then I just concentrated
- 16:26Speaker 3: and finished my studies, studying a lot. I had some jobs,
- 16:30Speaker 3: but it wasn't something like real, and then I de
- 16:33Speaker 3: scided I only wanted to work as an engineer. It
- 16:36Speaker 3: was very hard. I offered to do an internship for free,
- 16:41Speaker 3: where I went from Brisbane to Go Coast on a train.
- 16:44Speaker 3: I had no money, and I was having even less
- 16:47Speaker 3: money because it costs like ten dollars the round trip
- 16:50Speaker 3: from as a student, and I was like, is this
- 16:53Speaker 3: the right choice? It wasn't really the right choice because
- 16:57Speaker 3: I stayed there for one month and they told me
- 16:59Speaker 3: I saw basically I'm not really good at apparently at drafting.
- 17:05Speaker 3: I tried again. I did everything.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Seriously, I'm so proud of you. Are you proud of yourself?
- 17:11Speaker 2: I bet you're proud of yourself. You have to begh
- 17:12Speaker 2: after all this.
- 17:14Speaker 3: I am because I paid for a company they span
- 17:17Speaker 3: your regiment. That's how desperate I was. I don't recommend
- 17:21Speaker 3: this to anyone because it is so bad and desperate,
- 17:23Speaker 3: but I was desperate. I was desperate. I was like,
- 17:26Speaker 3: I have to do something.
- 17:27Speaker 2: You knew what you wanted.
- 17:28Speaker 3: I had to try. I like I already had to know.
- 17:32Speaker 3: So I spent my regiment and one company they called
- 17:35Speaker 3: me and I worked there for one month. But the
- 17:37Speaker 3: guy said, oh, you don't know how to do this,
- 17:40Speaker 3: so I'm not paying you and I'm like, oh, fair, fair,
- 17:43Speaker 3: I don't like you either.
- 17:43Speaker 2: So oh no.
- 17:46Speaker 3: Finally, in November twenty twenty, I had a friend and
- 17:50Speaker 3: she said, oh, my friend has a vacancy in her
- 17:53Speaker 3: company and you should apply. And she sent me the
- 17:55Speaker 3: vacancy and it was for a civil engineer with five
- 17:59Speaker 3: years of experience. And I was like, oh, but I'm
- 18:01Speaker 3: a mechanic engineer with sero years of experience and she said, oh,
- 18:06Speaker 3: that sounds different, but I applied anyway, give it a crack.
- 18:11Speaker 3: It was COVID What's Crazy Times. And then some guy
- 18:15Speaker 3: called me and he was like, oh, are you interested
- 18:18Speaker 3: to move to the outback Australia and leave in this
- 18:21Speaker 3: mining town and we'll give you a job. And I
- 18:24Speaker 3: was like absolutely, I'm going.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Of course, I'm down for anything.
- 18:28Speaker 3: At this point, I'm young for anything. And he said
- 18:31Speaker 3: how long will it take you to come here? And
- 18:33Speaker 3: I said one week.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. He would have been like that's crazy. Yes,
- 18:37Speaker 2: fired immediately.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Uh huh. In retrospect, when I'm thinking about it, I think, oh,
- 18:42Speaker 3: I just said yes to this random guy I don't
- 18:45Speaker 3: know to go to out back Australia. That's a little
- 18:49Speaker 3: bit dangerous.
- 18:50Speaker 2: That's a little bit questionable, but we're not gonna You're
- 18:53Speaker 2: safe and fine now, so let's not talk too much
- 18:55Speaker 2: about that.
- 18:56Speaker 3: So it worked out fine. I went there and they
- 19:00Speaker 3: had me on a salary of fifty four thousand a year,
- 19:04Speaker 3: and for me, I was great. I was like, this
- 19:06Speaker 3: is great. I loved it. I have an income now
- 19:09Speaker 3: after a year of not having an income. But I
- 19:12Speaker 3: was working like sixty hours a week. And then I
- 19:16Speaker 3: did the mess and I was like, oh, this is
- 19:18Speaker 3: like a teenager working at McDonald's would make more money
- 19:22Speaker 3: than I am. And then I was like, oh, this
- 19:25Speaker 3: is not good. But like one month later they were like,
- 19:28Speaker 3: oh we're making it was really good. So we're giving
- 19:33Speaker 3: you a raise and you are making now seventy five
- 19:35Speaker 3: thousand dollars a year.
- 19:37Speaker 2: What from fifty four thousand to seventy five is a
- 19:40Speaker 2: massive jump.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Yes, That's why I was like, oh my god, oh
- 19:45Speaker 3: my god, much money. I was so impressed. But I
- 19:48Speaker 3: was leaving the desert and a city with six thousand people.
- 19:52Speaker 3: They have two pubs, and I was there all by
- 19:56Speaker 3: myself again in the city where I knew and I
- 19:59Speaker 3: didn't know anyone. But I was making more money than
- 20:02Speaker 3: I could ever imagine I was going to make. And
- 20:05Speaker 3: then everything happened. I got invited to apply for my
- 20:08Speaker 3: permanent residency, and I told them, no, I can't live
- 20:11Speaker 3: here anymore. There's nothing to do in this town. I'm
- 20:14Speaker 3: not a big drinker. That's the only thing that people
- 20:17Speaker 3: doing here. Yeah, I can't. I'm going to leave. And
- 20:21Speaker 3: then they said, oh, what if we labor hire you
- 20:25Speaker 3: as an engineer to another company and give you fifty
- 20:29Speaker 3: dollars an hour?
- 20:30Speaker 2: And You're like, wait, well, why wasn't that an option
- 20:32Speaker 2: at the start?
- 20:33Speaker 3: I was like, okay, so I'm working for twelve hours
- 20:37Speaker 3: and fifty dollars an hour. That's so much money. Of
- 20:41Speaker 3: course I said yes, I said yes, And then I
- 20:44Speaker 3: started working for this new company as a labor higher
- 20:48Speaker 3: in August twenty twenty one. So in six months, I
- 20:51Speaker 3: was like, I seex seven seven eight months, I went
- 20:56Speaker 3: from being a student and making fifty four thousand dollars
- 21:00Speaker 3: and to being a permanent resident and and making fifty
- 21:06Speaker 3: dollars an hour.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. And you thought you'd picked there, didn't you.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Yes. I was like, oh my god, this is so good,
- 21:15Speaker 3: so good, so good. I was so happy. I was
- 21:19Speaker 3: not so happy because it's a very demanding job too,
- 21:23Speaker 3: very long hours. I started working at five am. But
- 21:26Speaker 3: then I continue in this company and then they asked
- 21:28Speaker 3: me to join the other company. I was being labor
- 21:30Speaker 3: highed and they decide, oh, I'm gonna pay you sixty
- 21:33Speaker 3: dollars an hour, and I was.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Like yes, please, yes, please, yes, yes.
- 21:39Speaker 3: It was great. I had like really good bosses who
- 21:42Speaker 3: was They were always looking after me and they were like, oh,
- 21:45Speaker 3: I'm gonna help you to negotiate your salary. He was
- 21:49Speaker 3: the one who like, don't take less than sixty dollars
- 21:51Speaker 3: an hour. As for sixty X for sixty, you're gonna
- 21:54Speaker 3: get it. And that's worth really good for me because
- 21:57Speaker 3: I was like fully, really proud of myself because I
- 22:00Speaker 3: had people behind like who are helping me and eventually
- 22:05Speaker 3: these balls of mine. He retired and I started working
- 22:09Speaker 3: there in August. In December, he wrote a letter to
- 22:12Speaker 3: his boss and said I'm going to retire and I
- 22:14Speaker 3: want to be in my place.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, what uh huh?
- 22:18Speaker 3: And I was like, are you sure because you have
- 22:21Speaker 3: been doing this for like thirty five years and I'm
- 22:24Speaker 3: not thirty five years of age.
- 22:26Speaker 2: No, you don't even look thirty. So that's the money
- 22:28Speaker 2: win for everybody involved.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Yes, And I was like, are you sure, and he's like, no,
- 22:32Speaker 3: I'm sure. You are really good. You're really good. You
- 22:35Speaker 3: need more. Of course, I'll guide you through it because
- 22:38Speaker 3: you need experience, but you won't only get experienced by
- 22:43Speaker 3: doing it, and I want to give you this opportunity.
- 22:46Speaker 3: And he retired in April twenty twenty two and I
- 22:51Speaker 3: start working in his position.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, and that's how you got to earn
- 22:55Speaker 2: one hundred and eighty thousand dollars.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Yes, because and then now I worked there, they didn't
- 23:00Speaker 3: give me any raises, and then I asked them. I
- 23:02Speaker 3: was like, oh, I'd been working in this role for
- 23:05Speaker 3: like five months and I didn't get a raise or
- 23:08Speaker 3: a letter saying I'm in this role. I'm just getting
- 23:11Speaker 3: pushed into meetings and asked for.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Saying, oh, yeah, that's not cool.
- 23:15Speaker 3: No, no, And I asked for it, and then I said, oh,
- 23:19Speaker 3: I'm going to see what I'm going to do. And
- 23:21Speaker 3: then he offered me seventy five dollars an hour.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, and now she's rolling in it. I
- 23:28Speaker 2: cannot believe it. Yes, I'm so proud of you. So
- 23:32Speaker 2: tell me now, what's your job description and your salary package?
- 23:36Speaker 3: So I'm a quality manager. Yeah, and I get a
- 23:40Speaker 3: flat rate which is seventy five an hour. I do
- 23:44Speaker 3: twelve hour days, so it adds up and yeah plus
- 23:49Speaker 3: super supernovasion and that's what made.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Yeah money when and that comes out at one eighty
- 23:54Speaker 2: grand plus a year depending on how many hours you do.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Uh huh.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Yeah, So tell me you are a hustle at heart
- 24:01Speaker 2: like you are a very good saver. What are you
- 24:03Speaker 2: now saving for? What's your big money goal?
- 24:05Speaker 3: I'm saving to buy a house.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Yes, are you going to live here forever?
- 24:11Speaker 3: I will live here forever. I'm a seatter now and
- 24:14Speaker 3: then I'm going to live here forever. So I'm trying
- 24:17Speaker 3: to buy a house right now. I have everything saved.
- 24:20Speaker 3: But money wise, I'm very I never made any big purchases.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:26Speaker 2: I was gonna say, you need a good mortgage broker.
- 24:28Speaker 2: I've heard Zella money are fantastic if anybody needs the
- 24:32Speaker 2: best mortgage brokers in the business. But it's scary, isn't it,
- 24:36Speaker 2: Especially when you go from not having a lot and
- 24:39Speaker 2: having to work so hard for every single dollar to them.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Being in a position where you're earning a lot more,
- 24:45Speaker 2: do you feel like it can be kind of ripped
- 24:48Speaker 2: away from you? Because I feel like a lot of
- 24:50Speaker 2: people in your position that I talk to often like, ah,
- 24:53Speaker 2: what if it doesn't last?
- 24:54Speaker 3: Yes, I feel that a lot. I don't do big purchases.
- 24:58Speaker 3: I never bought a car because I I think that's
- 25:01Speaker 3: a lot of money. I don't need that I can
- 25:04Speaker 3: leave without it. And because it's everything is so recent
- 25:07Speaker 3: and it changes so much and so fast, I often
- 25:11Speaker 3: feel some conscious like, oh is this gonna last?
- 25:15Speaker 2: We know it is. You're a hustler, You're not going anywhere.
- 25:17Speaker 3: Yeah, that's when I was thinking about this and how
- 25:21Speaker 3: far I came, and how I had to restart again
- 25:25Speaker 3: so many times, like COVID and I made it. I
- 25:30Speaker 3: feel like I'll be I'll be. I think I'll be
- 25:33Speaker 3: all right, I'll be all.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Right, you will be absolutely fine. I'm so proud of you.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Does it sometimes make you remember back to that time
- 25:40Speaker 2: when you were in Brazil laying in your bed, going
- 25:42Speaker 2: is this even worth it?
- 25:44Speaker 1: Like?
- 25:44Speaker 2: I feel like so many of us have been in
- 25:46Speaker 2: that position where we're like this isn't worth it, nothing's
- 25:48Speaker 2: working out, and then like a few years down the track,
- 25:51Speaker 2: look at you killing it.
- 25:52Speaker 3: Yes. And I also I wanted to share my story
- 25:55Speaker 3: because some people are like, oh, I see a lot
- 25:58Speaker 3: in the group. What people like, Oh, I'm twenty five
- 26:01Speaker 3: and I don't have a house. Oh I'm gonna die.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Yeah. I know it's dramatic, isn't it. And you're like,
- 26:08Speaker 2: that doesn't matter.
- 26:09Speaker 3: That doesn't matter. You can start again and try. I
- 26:13Speaker 3: never thought about this as being oh I'm so brave
- 26:16Speaker 3: until everyone was pointed out though, oh you're so brave.
- 26:20Speaker 3: You're so brave, and I was like, okay, actually maybe
- 26:24Speaker 3: it is, and yeah, just everyone, you can do it too.
- 26:28Speaker 2: I feel like it's interesting when people use the word
- 26:30Speaker 2: brave right, like, please don't get me wrong, I would
- 26:33Speaker 2: love to be labeled brave, Like being brave is very,
- 26:36Speaker 2: very impressive. However, I feel like sometimes you get labeled
- 26:40Speaker 2: brave when you're just doing what you feel like you
- 26:42Speaker 2: have to do in the moment. You're like, I'm not
- 26:45Speaker 2: being brave. I just need to live life, and I
- 26:48Speaker 2: just need money, and I need to put food on
- 26:51Speaker 2: the table, and arguably that's not that brave. But I
- 26:54Speaker 2: think it's it's more about being honest with ourselves, like
- 26:57Speaker 2: so many people give up and to get up every
- 27:00Speaker 2: single day and just do what you need to do
- 27:02Speaker 2: and carry you know, whole sampling setups on trams and
- 27:06Speaker 2: trains and you know, not having a car, like that's brave,
- 27:10Speaker 2: that is brave. Like lots of people wouldn't do what
- 27:13Speaker 2: you did, and I think that's why we default to
- 27:15Speaker 2: this idea of, oh my gosh, that's so brave, and
- 27:17Speaker 2: that's actually them saying I would never do what you did.
- 27:20Speaker 2: I don't have that tenacity, and so you kind of go, yeah,
- 27:24Speaker 2: I do, though yes I do.
- 27:27Speaker 3: I did. And I feel like, especially in this immigrant community,
- 27:32Speaker 3: there are a lot of people here who are by themselves,
- 27:35Speaker 3: but they only see people who have partners driving because
- 27:38Speaker 3: it's easier when you have someone to be your financial
- 27:42Speaker 3: and emotional support. And I think it's good to spread
- 27:45Speaker 3: this message that you can do it on your own too.
- 27:48Speaker 3: I was not alone, like people are like, you're doing
- 27:51Speaker 3: all by yourself, and I'm like no, I had friends
- 27:55Speaker 3: and my friends and then the family, and my friends
- 27:59Speaker 3: help me so much. They were like always sporting me
- 28:02Speaker 3: and saying you can do all this. You are amazing.
- 28:05Speaker 3: They gave me a lot of support, so yeah, everyone
- 28:09Speaker 3: can do it, I think so.
- 28:11Speaker 2: No, I'm obsessed. I'm obsessed. Let's go to a really
- 28:13Speaker 2: quick break on the flip side. I have a few
- 28:14Speaker 2: more questions for you, So guys, don't go anywhere, all right,
- 28:21Speaker 2: money diarist, we out back and your story is incredible.
- 28:25Speaker 2: But I want to know do you have any investments?
- 28:27Speaker 2: If so, what are they? If not, do you have plans?
- 28:31Speaker 3: I do have investments, of course you do. I went
- 28:35Speaker 3: to a financial advisor. Oh you queen, Yes, because I'm
- 28:39Speaker 3: a planner. You are right.
- 28:40Speaker 2: I mean your dad instilled in you that you had
- 28:42Speaker 2: to have a spreadsheet, so I'm not surprised.
- 28:44Speaker 3: I have ten thousand dollars in shares.
- 28:49Speaker 2: No you don't. Yeah, oh my gosh, I love this
- 28:52Speaker 2: for you.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Uh huh. So I saved seventy thousand dollars.
- 28:56Speaker 2: No you didn't, So, no you didn't. Yes, so you
- 28:59Speaker 2: you came to Australia, you with like one thousand dollars
- 29:01Speaker 2: and did air task of tasks and now you are
- 29:04Speaker 2: earning one to eighty plus plus super You have ten
- 29:08Speaker 2: grand in shares and you've saved seventy grand. Yes, you're
- 29:11Speaker 2: a queen.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Sometimes I think, oh, for the amount of money I make,
- 29:15Speaker 3: I could be saving more. But I think I did
- 29:19Speaker 3: really well with my savings because I travel a lot
- 29:23Speaker 3: this year. I went to Europe, I went to Bali,
- 29:25Speaker 3: I went to Thailand.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, you've still got seventy grand in savings.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. All right, well, we need to take
- 29:31Speaker 2: all of our tips and tricks from you. I love
- 29:33Speaker 2: this so much. Do you have any debt? No, no debt.
- 29:37Speaker 2: I've never been in debt. You've always just been a hustler.
- 29:39Speaker 3: No. I had like a credit card to buy my
- 29:43Speaker 3: MacBook and it was like two thousand dollars and that
- 29:48Speaker 3: was it. I don't have any credit card debt, loans
- 29:52Speaker 3: or car repayments, and I don't have a mortgage yet
- 29:56Speaker 3: so yet.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Yeah, but that would be good debt when that happens.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Yes, when when it happens, it will be good. But
- 30:02Speaker 3: at the moment, I don't have anything, just my investment.
- 30:05Speaker 2: So tell me. I feel like we have so much
- 30:07Speaker 2: to learn from you. What is your best money habit?
- 30:09Speaker 3: My best money habit at the moment is the thing
- 30:13Speaker 3: that at the beginning of the year, I didn't have
- 30:15Speaker 3: a lot of savings.
- 30:15Speaker 2: Wait, so you've done most of these seventy thousand dollars
- 30:18Speaker 2: in the last twelve months. Yes, you're crazy. I love it.
- 30:21Speaker 3: It's because after I got my job and I was
- 30:25Speaker 3: just went crazy. I was like, oh my god. You
- 30:28Speaker 3: know when you were on a diet and then you
- 30:30Speaker 3: stop dieting and they were over.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Eating, and you're like, I can go out to a
- 30:34Speaker 2: restaurant now.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Yes. The thing that helped me a lot was getting
- 30:39Speaker 3: paid in a different account. So I opened this account.
- 30:43Speaker 3: I started getting paid p in that account that I
- 30:44Speaker 3: don't see, and then from the account, I get my
- 30:48Speaker 3: expenses that I planned, and I pay myself weekly and
- 30:52Speaker 3: I have to use only that money. And that helped
- 30:55Speaker 3: me a lot, not too just seeing money in my
- 30:59Speaker 3: bank account, like, oh, I can't afford another T shirt.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Yeah, so I am guilty if that. That's why I
- 31:05Speaker 2: had to like create my budget and cash flow like
- 31:07Speaker 2: spending plan, because if I didn't do that, I would
- 31:10Speaker 2: have just spent whatever was in my account. I'd be like, well,
- 31:12Speaker 2: it's there for me. I told you before. I'm a Kancian.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I deserve a little treaty treat I have to have
- 31:17Speaker 2: all my stuff taken off me.
- 31:18Speaker 3: Yes, and you're like, oh, what is it? Hundred dollars,
- 31:22Speaker 3: It won't matter. I had so much.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Yes, it matters. It matters. It matters so much.
- 31:26Speaker 3: It mattered so much. And another thing that I think
- 31:29Speaker 3: it really helped me is I had a lady who
- 31:32Speaker 3: does a consulting for your word group, so she would
- 31:37Speaker 3: see your clothes and she she's a personal shopper, and
- 31:40Speaker 3: she I was buying a lot of because I grew
- 31:44Speaker 3: so much. I was not seeing myself in my clothes,
- 31:47Speaker 3: and I was buying random clothes that didn't suit me,
- 31:51Speaker 3: were not my style, just because they were cheap or
- 31:54Speaker 3: and she helped me into only buy what I really need,
- 32:00Speaker 3: and that helped me not buying a lot.
- 32:02Speaker 2: I love this. So you've gone from being like a
- 32:05Speaker 2: broke Brazilian student with one thousand dollars to being a
- 32:08Speaker 2: baller who owns one eighty, who's very very well dressed.
- 32:12Speaker 2: I love this. Look at you go. Now you're just
- 32:14Speaker 2: like a fashion queen.
- 32:16Speaker 3: Uh huh. And now I also I make more. I'm
- 32:19Speaker 3: more conscious about what I buy, so sometimes I have
- 32:23Speaker 3: I see something on TikTok, like, oh, I have to
- 32:26Speaker 3: buy this foundation because it makes your ski glow. And
- 32:31Speaker 3: then I'm like, I have to buy this. There's only
- 32:33Speaker 3: sixty dollars. It won't affect me too much. And then
- 32:36Speaker 3: I wait, I save this in my interest wish list. Yes,
- 32:42Speaker 3: And I think about it for a while and I
- 32:44Speaker 3: don't forget about it.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I know that's me. I forget about it. If
- 32:46Speaker 2: I don't buy it in the moment, I've already forgotten
- 32:48Speaker 2: about it. And sometimes I do buy it in the moment,
- 32:51Speaker 2: and then I forget about it and then it arrives
- 32:53Speaker 2: my house and I'm like, why did I buy that.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Free gifts?
- 32:57Speaker 2: Why did I do that? I should have thought about
- 32:59Speaker 2: this more. I meant to be the person that runs
- 33:01Speaker 2: ches on the money, like I should be better at money. Yes,
- 33:04Speaker 2: So would that lean into your worst money habit? What
- 33:07Speaker 2: is your worst money habit?
- 33:08Speaker 3: My love my worst money habit? There are two, which
- 33:11Speaker 3: is traveling. I do like my trouble.
- 33:13Speaker 2: That's not a bad money habit. No, I love that.
- 33:15Speaker 2: That's a good money habit. I'm not letting that be
- 33:17Speaker 2: a bad money habit. That's life experiences.
- 33:20Speaker 3: I'm not very stingy with my money. So I try
- 33:24Speaker 3: to help my friends and I give them money, which
- 33:27Speaker 3: is it's a bad thing for my finances, but it's
- 33:29Speaker 3: a good thing for them.
- 33:30Speaker 2: But it's also a good thing. You sound like such
- 33:32Speaker 2: a wholesome human being, Like you are so generous and kind,
- 33:37Speaker 2: Like is that not nice?
- 33:39Speaker 3: Yes, it's nice. It's bad for my money, but I'll
- 33:42Speaker 3: have some friends because I can't count on all my
- 33:44Speaker 3: parents to give me this money support. Like if I'm struggling,
- 33:48Speaker 3: I know if I have you with they will help me.
- 33:51Speaker 3: And I know that a lot of people don't have this, And.
- 33:54Speaker 2: I feel I'm not letting that be a bad money habit.
- 33:57Speaker 2: I know, absolutely not. It's too kind. Yeah, I feel
- 33:59Speaker 2: like it could be a bad money habit, but like,
- 34:02Speaker 2: let's reframe it. Does that make you feel good? Like
- 34:05Speaker 2: does it make you feel like you're supporting your friends
- 34:07Speaker 2: and like your community, and like I feel like that's
- 34:10Speaker 2: a good money habit, Like I feel like more people
- 34:13Speaker 2: should give and if it's supporting those that you already
- 34:15Speaker 2: know and love, like, is that not great?
- 34:17Speaker 3: Yeah? I think it is. It's just if I can help.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Just because lots of other people don't do it doesn't
- 34:23Speaker 2: make it a bad money habit for you to do it.
- 34:25Speaker 3: Yes, it's just these two were the the two things
- 34:30Speaker 3: that I spend most of my money in things that
- 34:32Speaker 3: I shouldn't suppose to. Yeah, and sometimes you know the
- 34:36Speaker 3: occasional shopping and you're like, uh, yeah, it's a lipstick. Oh.
- 34:41Speaker 2: I'm so obsessed with like lip tints at the moment
- 34:44Speaker 2: because of TikTok. Like I'm seeing all these girls on
- 34:46Speaker 2: TikTok with beautiful lip tints and I don't own one
- 34:49Speaker 2: lip tint yet, but I know I need to. And
- 34:52Speaker 2: I have this like list in my phone of all
- 34:54Speaker 2: these like lip tint companies and usually they are like
- 34:56Speaker 2: Korean brands. So now I've got to find a way
- 34:59Speaker 2: to buy them, but I want to try them first. Anyway,
- 35:01Speaker 2: it's very very complex, but I totally get it.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Yes, it is. It is complex.
- 35:06Speaker 2: I can't agree with you though, that that's a bad
- 35:07Speaker 2: money habit.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Yeah, Like that's the bad money habit. And I think
- 35:11Speaker 3: I do I should invest more. But because of the
- 35:15Speaker 3: country I came from, the economic situation is not as
- 35:19Speaker 3: good as in Australian. There's not as tables in here.
- 35:22Speaker 3: When they ask me oh we have to do see
- 35:24Speaker 3: your investor profile. And I'm like, I'm very conservative.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Conservative. Yeah, I'm not surprised. I'm not surprised.
- 35:31Speaker 3: They're like, you cannot be conservative. I'm like, this is
- 35:33Speaker 3: the only part of my life.
- 35:34Speaker 2: I'm conservative, But this is my money story. This is
- 35:37Speaker 2: how I've grown up.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Uh yeah, I think it's because of where I came from.
- 35:41Speaker 2: But those are goals for the future. Yeah, those are goals.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Like investing more is a goal. It's not a letdown, right,
- 35:47Speaker 2: Like that's something that we can do, not something that
- 35:49Speaker 2: we crucify ourselves for not doing already.
- 35:51Speaker 3: Right, I bought the book that she's on the Money Investment.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, thank you. That is so kind. All Right,
- 35:58Speaker 2: so your money still is crazy. You arrived from Brazil
- 36:02Speaker 2: five years ago, hustled your way up to one hundred
- 36:05Speaker 2: and eighty thousand dollars. You've got some good money habits.
- 36:08Speaker 2: You have saved seventy thousand dollars despite traveling, and you
- 36:12Speaker 2: have ten grand in shares because you were smart enough
- 36:14Speaker 2: to see a financial advisor and get those ducks in
- 36:17Speaker 2: a row. You're planning on buying a house. Literally, hustled
- 36:20Speaker 2: more than anyone I have met in the recent times.
- 36:24Speaker 2: You think that your worst money habits is being too
- 36:26Speaker 2: nice to your friends. And at the start of this
- 36:28Speaker 2: episode you said, my money grade I think is a bee. Okay,
- 36:32Speaker 2: I'm not gonna argue with you, but what would it
- 36:34Speaker 2: take to get to an A or an A plus.
- 36:37Speaker 3: I think if I went back to what my dad
- 36:40Speaker 3: said about spreadsheets.
- 36:41Speaker 2: I can help you there. I can help you there.
- 36:43Speaker 2: I have a very good one. I'll gift you our
- 36:45Speaker 2: money master class, and then you can go through all
- 36:48Speaker 2: of that and it will sort you out and then automatically,
- 36:51Speaker 2: I think that makes you an A plus.
- 36:52Speaker 3: Yes, that'd be great. Thank you.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Oh my gosh. Of course I am so proud of
- 36:58Speaker 2: you already, and I do genuinely think if you're feeling
- 37:00Speaker 2: a bit, what I'm getting from this story is that
- 37:02Speaker 2: you're just feeling a bit like I'm doing what I
- 37:05Speaker 2: think I need to do, but you don't actually have
- 37:07Speaker 2: like a solid plan or you didn't listen to your
- 37:09Speaker 2: data in spreadsheet enough. But I feel like you don't
- 37:12Speaker 2: have enough of a like solid like No, this is
- 37:15Speaker 2: my cash flow, this is where this goes, this is
- 37:17Speaker 2: what this goal is working towards like I think we
- 37:19Speaker 2: need that like money system to make us, I guess,
- 37:23Speaker 2: feel really empowered. So it's not necessarily about going, oh, well,
- 37:27Speaker 2: I have money coming in and I put it in
- 37:28Speaker 2: my savings full stop. It's kind of like, well, actually,
- 37:31Speaker 2: my cash flow system takes into consideration that I have
- 37:34Speaker 2: these savings goals for travel, this savings goal for the
- 37:37Speaker 2: future house I want to buy, this savings goal for
- 37:39Speaker 2: maybe a car or something that you want to achieve
- 37:41Speaker 2: in the future, And every single time you look at it,
- 37:44Speaker 2: you go, no, I'm working towards my goals. I'm saving,
- 37:46Speaker 2: I'm investing like it just makes you It's a lot
- 37:49Speaker 2: more visible, right and it means that you feel like
- 37:51Speaker 2: you're on track, because right now, I'm sure if you
- 37:53Speaker 2: talk to your financial advisor, they'd be like money darist,
- 37:56Speaker 2: You're fine. But that's not how you feel if you
- 37:59Speaker 2: don't have a plan, right.
- 38:00Speaker 3: No, it's when you go to see a financial advisor.
- 38:04Speaker 3: I think it's very broad to what they present to you,
- 38:08Speaker 3: and it's just like seeing a mortgage broker. They're like, oh,
- 38:12Speaker 3: you have to choose a suburb you like, and I'm like,
- 38:15Speaker 3: are you kidding me? There are how many twenty thousand
- 38:19Speaker 3: suburbs in Australia hops you to lay it down to five?
- 38:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's fair, Samuch Yeah, I think you need to
- 38:28Speaker 2: just create a plan. So I'm going to set you
- 38:29Speaker 2: up with that, which I'm really excited about. If anyone's
- 38:32Speaker 2: listening and actually wants to set themselves up with that,
- 38:35Speaker 2: use the discount code pod five zero so pod fifty
- 38:38Speaker 2: and it'll give you fifty bucks off. We'll make sure
- 38:40Speaker 2: that the link to that is in the show notes
- 38:41Speaker 2: as well. But Money Diarist, I'm so proud of you.
- 38:45Speaker 2: I just want to be your best friend. So next
- 38:47Speaker 2: time you're in Melbourne, we're going to go out for
- 38:49Speaker 2: a drink. But thank you so much for sharing this
- 38:52Speaker 2: story with our community. I know they're going to love it.
- 38:54Speaker 2: I know they're going to be as obsessed with you
- 38:56Speaker 2: as I am. But it's really special that you wanted
- 38:59Speaker 2: to share this.
