- 0:01Speaker 1: She's on the Money.
- 0:03Speaker 2: She's on the Money.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:17Speaker 1: for Millennials who want financial freedom. My name is Victoria Devine.
- 0:22Speaker 1: I am a millennial, I am a financial advisor, and
- 0:24Speaker 1: I am wildly passionate about financial literacy. And today on
- 0:28Speaker 1: the show, I'm joined again this week by Ryan John
- 0:30Speaker 1: and Jessica, our fellow She's on the Money team members.
- 0:33Speaker 1: And this week we are talking money wins, we are
- 0:36Speaker 1: talking the community, and we are talking about goals, which
- 0:39Speaker 1: we spoke about on our podcast this week.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yep.
- 0:41Speaker 3: And I think within what half an hour of posting that,
- 0:44Speaker 3: how many comments do we get with people sharing the goal?
- 0:47Speaker 1: Drud of people being like, this is my goal, and
- 0:49Speaker 1: I'm so proud of you all, but my gosh, you
- 0:51Speaker 1: overwhelm me with your generosity when it comes to sharing
- 0:54Speaker 1: in this group. It is actually crazy. Jess and Ryan
- 0:58Speaker 1: of that thread, did you do you have a favorite
- 1:01Speaker 1: goal that someone had? Shit? I sure do.
- 1:04Speaker 2: My favorite goal was from Valentine, and Valentine said, in
- 1:07Speaker 2: addition to wanting to save, she wanted to buy a
- 1:09Speaker 2: jet ski and I am all on board that train.
- 1:11Speaker 3: I think that's.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Amazing I'm glad you've picked and really like momentous money
- 1:14Speaker 1: win there or a goal, you know what, it's in
- 1:17Speaker 1: line with your values. Friends, get your jet ski.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Love. Imagine saving up for a jet ski and the
- 1:21Speaker 3: satisfaction you would feel the first time you put it
- 1:24Speaker 3: into the water and you're like, yeah, I save.
- 1:25Speaker 1: For this, Oh my gosh. But if you put it
- 1:27Speaker 1: into the water anywhere near the beach that my parents
- 1:29Speaker 1: go to, you, they'll yell at you from the beach
- 1:31Speaker 1: being too close to the foreshore. And that's definitely not
- 1:34Speaker 1: so many yards out.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Does your dad Wavey's fist.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Oh, he probably does. Like he's always like, oh, they're
- 1:40Speaker 1: so territorial, Like they shouldn't be anywhere near the water.
- 1:43Speaker 3: They're a jet ski. Where should they be?
- 1:45Speaker 1: They should be in the water. But I think there's
- 1:47Speaker 1: a bit of a stereotype going round about jet ski
- 1:50Speaker 1: as being hoon's.
- 1:51Speaker 3: You could say, what was her name again, Valentine's Valentine?
- 1:54Speaker 1: Valentine sounds too classy to be a hoon.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Can you just let us know, Valentine if a you're
- 1:58Speaker 3: a hoon who's been yelled at by Victoria's dad, And
- 2:01Speaker 3: also just keep us updated throughout the year, because I'd
- 2:03Speaker 3: love nothing more than towards the back end of the year.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Will you come to the beach with us, we have
- 2:07Speaker 1: a beach party and go.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Let's Keith, what an absolute legend.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I love that, Ryan, What have you got?
- 2:13Speaker 3: Ruby Rose says, this is the first year that my
- 2:16Speaker 3: husband and I have both had an income, So we've
- 2:19Speaker 3: got two full incomes for the first time ever, and
- 2:21Speaker 3: our goal is to continue living off just one of
- 2:24Speaker 3: them and completely save the entire second income.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Okay, so that'spic and I love that goal, and that
- 2:31Speaker 1: is so about living within your means and making sure
- 2:34Speaker 1: that you don't experience lifestyle creep. That is awesome.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Well, I think the fact that they've proved to themselves
- 2:39Speaker 3: that they've already done it. We've lived off one wage.
- 2:41Speaker 3: We know we can live off one wage. We can
- 2:42Speaker 3: do it. It seems realistic. But I was actually going to
- 2:44Speaker 3: ask V how many people do you think when they
- 2:47Speaker 3: have more money coming in going Yep, that extra twenty
- 2:50Speaker 3: grand or this extra whole wage is going here. But
- 2:52Speaker 3: then it doesn't happen.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Oh, it hardly ever happens. And it's because we all
- 2:56Speaker 1: have the best intentions, but we don't have a plan
- 2:59Speaker 1: in place to actually get that done. And the way
- 3:02Speaker 1: to do that would be to make sure that whatever
- 3:04Speaker 1: money is coming in goes straight to a savings account
- 3:07Speaker 1: and you automate that, because if you don't, you're setup
- 3:09Speaker 1: for failure.
- 3:09Speaker 3: All right, that's good advice. V your favorite one.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Okay, mine's definitely not as impactful as yours. Is probably
- 3:15Speaker 1: more on the same page as a jest, but because
- 3:17Speaker 1: it's dog related, I would argue it's better. Lily says
- 3:21Speaker 1: she has the goal of buying a house. Fantastic, but
- 3:23Speaker 1: she also wants to buy a kovoodle.
- 3:25Speaker 2: So one of my friends one of those, and they
- 3:27Speaker 2: are the cutest, sweetest little dogs.
- 3:28Speaker 1: They look like little teddy bears.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Which dog is your dog? Again? Is that a kovoodle?
- 3:32Speaker 1: No? Not a kvoodle? It sounds so lame. I always
- 3:34Speaker 1: say she's an old English sheep dog crosspoodle because it
- 3:38Speaker 1: sounds much less lame than saying my dog, Lucy's a sheeperdoodle.
- 3:43Speaker 3: That's terrible, are you? And like, obviously anyone that's been
- 3:47Speaker 3: anywhere near Instagram over the last month has seen this.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Dog dog dog dog cat cat dog dog dog. Yeah,
- 3:53Speaker 1: that's pretty much my Instagram at the moment, I'm sorry,
- 3:56Speaker 1: guys her instagram as well. She has one at Lucy
- 3:58Speaker 1: the Golden Sheep do she does? Jess now manages our
- 4:03Speaker 1: socials and Lucy's hay on.
- 4:06Speaker 3: So Jess, who is on the books that she's on
- 4:07Speaker 3: the money, is spending her paid time to manage your
- 4:10Speaker 3: dog's Instagram.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I didn't say that I was a good manager. I
- 4:15Speaker 1: absolutely would say you, I love so I'm glad. But like,
- 4:20Speaker 1: that's cause she manages my dog's social account.
- 4:22Speaker 3: So does is she saving up for the dog? Because
- 4:24Speaker 3: dogs can actually be expensive.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Right, Yeah? And that sounds like, yeah, kvoodles can be
- 4:30Speaker 1: so several thousand dollars exactly. Like I've got friends and
- 4:33Speaker 1: I think family who've spent more than five thousand dollars
- 4:36Speaker 1: on these dogs insane.
- 4:38Speaker 3: So I judge them with my dog BJ, because I
- 4:40Speaker 3: think we paid eighty bucks for him to some farmer
- 4:42Speaker 3: that found him at the back.
- 4:44Speaker 1: But BJ's a legend.
- 4:46Speaker 3: I was like, I was like, look at these guys, BJ,
- 4:47Speaker 3: they're kidding themselves. You're a real man.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Hold on, hold on your rescue. Sleeps on the bed
- 4:53Speaker 1: on the couch is a silk when it goes outside. Please.
- 4:56Speaker 3: He's a former farm dog. He's now profetic in a
- 4:59Speaker 3: sm fum dog. Yeah, we do joke when Bridget my
- 5:04Speaker 3: wife and I.
- 5:05Speaker 1: I like, how you keep dropping my wife Bridget all
- 5:07Speaker 1: this everything that we've done. Yeah, she absolutely is. But
- 5:11Speaker 1: everyone knows who Bridget is. We love Bridget. We all
- 5:14Speaker 1: know you got married last week.
- 5:16Speaker 3: There's three people in our house, Bridget, myself, and the dog.
- 5:19Speaker 3: BJ and I often team up on Bridget, so it's
- 5:22Speaker 3: like two verses. One and I always say where team rescue?
- 5:26Speaker 1: I don't say that you can. You can't say that
- 5:32Speaker 1: for those of you playing along at home, Ryan, Why
- 5:34Speaker 1: would you both be team rescue?
- 5:37Speaker 3: Well? I was also, like BJ, adopted when I was
- 5:39Speaker 3: quite young. And so anytime if.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Anyone doesn't know that, that's why that's funny. It was
- 5:43Speaker 1: like morbidly funny.
- 5:45Speaker 3: Well, and the anytime Bridget acts like she would act
- 5:48Speaker 3: like that, BJ, she doesn't understand our lives.
- 5:54Speaker 1: I don't know if I could deal with you. Well,
- 5:56Speaker 1: I'm glad glad Bridget puts up with it.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Yeah, excellent, so am I. She's married to me for life.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Let's move along to we've gone through some of our favors,
- 6:04Speaker 3: and please continue to leave your goals for twenty twenty
- 6:07Speaker 3: one because I think it might be fun til later
- 6:10Speaker 3: in the year go back find this post and we
- 6:13Speaker 3: can go through all the goals and see if we
- 6:15Speaker 3: achieved ours and if everyone in the group achieved theirs
- 6:17Speaker 3: as well, because it'd be good to come back to.
- 6:19Speaker 3: But our three goals, Let's start with you, Victoria Devine,
- 6:22Speaker 3: what are your money goals for twenty twenty one?
- 6:25Speaker 1: In an earlier episode this week, I announced finally that
- 6:29Speaker 1: I have achieved my biggest financial goal to date, and
- 6:33Speaker 1: that is purchasing my first home with my partner Steve. Congratulations,
- 6:36Speaker 1: thank you, And we are honestly, so so so excited,
- 6:41Speaker 1: and we've had a number of we're really good at
- 6:42Speaker 1: TALKI about finance, which I don't think is going to
- 6:44Speaker 1: surprise any listening. But our financial goal is to be
- 6:49Speaker 1: able to save enough to you know, change the bathrooms
- 6:52Speaker 1: and change the kitchen, because when we bought the house,
- 6:55Speaker 1: it definitely isn't what we wanted it to be. But
- 6:57Speaker 1: we want to do all of that debt free and
- 6:59Speaker 1: not going to any debt because obviously we didn't buy
- 7:01Speaker 1: a house outright, we do now have a mortgage, which
- 7:04Speaker 1: is terrifying seeing how much debt you're in. But I
- 7:07Speaker 1: know that it's a good investment, so it's okay. But
- 7:10Speaker 1: we want to be able to add a kitchen, add bathrooms,
- 7:13Speaker 1: and you know, do up the house because it is
- 7:15Speaker 1: a nineteen forties house with an extension on the back
- 7:17Speaker 1: that has a lot left to be fixed up and changed,
- 7:21Speaker 1: and like it's going to be really fun. It might
- 7:23Speaker 1: be a really slow process, but I think it'll be
- 7:25Speaker 1: really nice knowing that we're not in any more debt
- 7:28Speaker 1: for it. So that's the plan this year.
- 7:30Speaker 3: So if people actually want to see the house, they can.
- 7:32Speaker 3: There's a house tour on Victoria Devine's YouTube channel.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Yes, we did that together.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Funnel three of us.
- 7:38Speaker 1: All three of us were at my house the day
- 7:41Speaker 1: after I got the keys and had started moving in.
- 7:44Speaker 2: First thing we put in there. Take a guess, anybody
- 7:46Speaker 2: the Christmas tree?
- 7:47Speaker 1: Yeah, of course the Christmas tree is up, even though
- 7:49Speaker 1: nothing else is. And I had my shoes and my plants.
- 7:52Speaker 1: I didn't need anything else.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Now we talk about this as we're doing the house tour,
- 7:55Speaker 3: but for people that haven't seen it, I'll just ask
- 7:57Speaker 3: you again now for our podcast listeners. Your and your
- 8:01Speaker 3: partner Steve's balance between getting a house in the area
- 8:04Speaker 3: you wanted versus getting a you know, inverted commas completed
- 8:07Speaker 3: finished how you would like it to be house. So
- 8:09Speaker 3: how did you juggle that balance?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that was a hard one because obviously, when you
- 8:13Speaker 1: have a budget, everything over and above your budget is
- 8:17Speaker 1: really attractive. Like you see it and you're like, oh,
- 8:19Speaker 1: that was three hundred thousand dollars less, that'd be perfect.
- 8:22Speaker 1: It's that you're absolutely dreaming, Victoria. So to be honest,
- 8:25Speaker 1: we got really really lucky, and we didn't think that
- 8:28Speaker 1: we'd be able to afford to buy the house that
- 8:30Speaker 1: we did end up buying. I say house. We've literally
- 8:33Speaker 1: bought a house when we didn't even think that that
- 8:35Speaker 1: was going to be a reality for us. And I'm
- 8:37Speaker 1: really open with our goals, but we thought we could
- 8:40Speaker 1: maybe buy, you know, two bedroom unit or a three
- 8:42Speaker 1: bedroom unit if we could afford it. And I think
- 8:44Speaker 1: we got really lucky during COVID when we're in super
- 8:47Speaker 1: lockdown and literally purchased the week after lockdown came back,
- 8:51Speaker 1: and I was working with one of my girlfriends and
- 8:53Speaker 1: also an incredibly good buyers advocate Amy Lenardi, who found
- 8:58Speaker 1: this house for us off market, and it's actually the
- 9:00Speaker 1: family who owned it had already left the country and
- 9:02Speaker 1: needed to get rid of it asap, so we had
- 9:04Speaker 1: to move super quickly. It was definitely a do as
- 9:07Speaker 1: I say, not as I do kind of moment, because
- 9:09Speaker 1: it is not a process or the process we went through.
- 9:11Speaker 1: It's not something I would recommend to others, just because
- 9:13Speaker 1: there was a fair bit of risk involved given how
- 9:16Speaker 1: quick we needed to move on it. But we did
- 9:19Speaker 1: end up getting what I would say is definitely my
- 9:21Speaker 1: dream house at this point in my life. You know,
- 9:24Speaker 1: we've bought a three bedroom house with heaps of space.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I've got a backyard, I was able to get a dog,
- 9:30Speaker 1: which you guys probably would have seen.
- 9:31Speaker 3: A really nice area as well.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Really beautiful area, and we just feel very very grateful
- 9:36Speaker 1: being in that position.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Yeah, but you are, as we were saying, it's probably not finished.
- 9:40Speaker 3: You're going to spend a bit.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Of act not finished.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Gess what would you how would you describe the splashback
- 9:45Speaker 3: in the kitchen Red's red.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I don't know, that's not even the highlight of the house.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I would argue the false ceilings in the bathroom.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Made of tin. They're all like, not even tiles, just tin.
- 10:02Speaker 1: That was a really dodgy DOROI effort. Yeah, Like, we've
- 10:05Speaker 1: got these big, beautiful old nineteen forty ceilings and they
- 10:09Speaker 1: decided to cut them down to about seven.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Foot so and just have this weird gap.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Weird gap in between and like remove all of the
- 10:16Speaker 1: lighting and oh my gosh, it's horrendous. But if you
- 10:19Speaker 1: watch the video, you know exactly what we're talking about.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Check out the video. It is great fun, and I
- 10:24Speaker 3: think that's a great goal. To renovate a house without
- 10:27Speaker 3: going into more debt is a big goal. But I'm
- 10:30Speaker 3: actually excited to watch it happen and everyone else will do.
- 10:32Speaker 1: It's so fun, and I think, yeah, we're going to
- 10:34Speaker 1: document the entire thing via YouTube, because once we've saved
- 10:37Speaker 1: up enough for a bathroom, we'll do the renolds of
- 10:39Speaker 1: that bathroom and we'll share the journey with you. I
- 10:41Speaker 1: really want to be able to share like the budgets
- 10:43Speaker 1: associated with that, because at the moment I'm saying I
- 10:46Speaker 1: have the goal of this, but I actually can't tell
- 10:48Speaker 1: you what that goal is financially right now, because I
- 10:51Speaker 1: don't know what a bathroom costs. So the next month
- 10:53Speaker 1: or so, my partner and I are getting quotes to
- 10:55Speaker 1: bathrooms and kitchens, and you know, we'd love some new flooring,
- 10:59Speaker 1: and just we're going through all of that process at
- 11:01Speaker 1: the moment to work out, right, what's reasonable to pay
- 11:04Speaker 1: for a bathroom? How does that work. I didn't actually
- 11:07Speaker 1: realize how expensive it was to move plumbing around the house.
- 11:12Speaker 3: You're sing, put the bathroom over there.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I was like, Okay, no, I'm not, so we're gonna
- 11:18Speaker 1: have to maybe realign my expectations. But I think it'll
- 11:22Speaker 1: be really interesting just to get these quotes and understand
- 11:25Speaker 1: how much these things are and then prioritize what parts
- 11:28Speaker 1: of the house we're going to do first, and then Jess,
- 11:30Speaker 1: Ryan and I and some videographers that are going to
- 11:33Speaker 1: work with us, we're going to document the entire process.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And I just think it'll be really fun.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree. I'm very much looking forward to it
- 11:38Speaker 3: seeing how actually.
- 11:40Speaker 1: She's on the money, but it's she's on the block. Guys.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Jess, welcome to the team. First of all, thank you.
- 11:47Speaker 3: What are your money goals for twenty twenty one besides
- 11:49Speaker 3: landing this new sweet job?
- 11:50Speaker 2: Well, kind of in line with that, and a little
- 11:52Speaker 2: bit embarrassingly, having formerly been a community member and now
- 11:55Speaker 2: obviously being an employee, I don't have an actual budget,
- 12:01Speaker 2: so I have been using up bank love it and say.
- 12:04Speaker 1: This's a proper sheets on the money. I am one of.
- 12:08Speaker 2: You, So I have been using up bankers kind of
- 12:10Speaker 2: like I designate what I have, like my groceries for
- 12:14Speaker 2: the Fortnite or whatever that might be. However, I've never
- 12:17Speaker 2: actually looked at my cashlong okay, like this is what's
- 12:19Speaker 2: coming in, this is what's going out, this is what
- 12:21Speaker 2: plausibly I could put towards my bigger financial goal, which
- 12:24Speaker 2: is a house deposit.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Boss was a financial advice who knew your salary. You
- 12:30Speaker 1: talk openly about that.
- 12:31Speaker 3: How good, weird one? Do you have the budgeting and
- 12:34Speaker 3: cash Flow master class?
- 12:35Speaker 2: Victoria kindly gifted me access.
- 12:37Speaker 3: I was going to say, we'll take it out of
- 12:38Speaker 3: your page.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Not a chance, but that's actually one of our employee
- 12:44Speaker 1: benefits here and sheet on the money, don't we don't
- 12:47Speaker 1: have many. We do have an office dog and free
- 12:49Speaker 1: access to the budget cashflow masterclass.
- 12:51Speaker 2: All about it though, Like you showed me that spreadsheet,
- 12:53Speaker 2: and firstly you can do things with an Excel spreadsheet
- 12:55Speaker 2: that I know were possible.
- 12:56Speaker 3: So story divine great in the sheets. That's what I've.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Always heard that Rossia First, Okay, moving, what were you saying?
- 13:06Speaker 2: Yess No, I just basically want to get my life
- 13:08Speaker 2: together and now that I have access to like this
- 13:10Speaker 2: next level with bang sheet, put everything in see what
- 13:13Speaker 2: I actually can save and hopefully smash my house deposit.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I'm very excited for you to set that up.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I can't wait for you to keep me accountable every week.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Is that.
- 13:24Speaker 1: I'm sorry? I'm pretty sure I pay for you.
- 13:28Speaker 3: All right?
- 13:29Speaker 1: Moving on, Ryan John, what are your financial goals this year?
- 13:32Speaker 3: Well, Bridget and I own a house together.
- 13:36Speaker 1: But we've real commitment.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Yeah, but we move for work. So we live in
- 13:40Speaker 3: Melbourne in the Grampian, so we're in Victoria now, but
- 13:43Speaker 3: we our house is and in Victoria, so we've got
- 13:45Speaker 3: rentes in there at moment, which is great, but we
- 13:47Speaker 3: want to get that I don't know if you like
- 13:49Speaker 3: the term forever home, but you know that really like
- 13:51Speaker 3: we want to sit down and have kids here and
- 13:54Speaker 3: really not have to move again for a really long time.
- 13:57Speaker 3: So we're starting to look at where like suburbs or
- 14:00Speaker 3: what area that might be and so and obviously saving
- 14:03Speaker 3: for that. So I think that might be considering the
- 14:06Speaker 3: price of property in Melbourne at the moment, probably how
- 14:10Speaker 3: far out of Melbourne Adelaide it'll probably be.
- 14:14Speaker 1: It is really expensive now, I've heard, Yeah, I think so,
- 14:17Speaker 1: because it's like left a little bit bougie now like
- 14:19Speaker 1: Adelaide's the place to be.
- 14:20Speaker 3: I've heard everywhere goes up in price except for where
- 14:24Speaker 3: I own the houses. But yeah, we're probably in two
- 14:28Speaker 3: years want to have that family forever home. So, as
- 14:31Speaker 3: we were discussing on the episode on Wednesday and earlier,
- 14:33Speaker 3: maybe us just breaking that down to a month by
- 14:35Speaker 3: month to kind of go how much do we need
- 14:37Speaker 3: to save per month so that in two years time
- 14:39Speaker 3: we'll have enough for a big, juicy deposit. So I
- 14:41Speaker 3: think that's sort of where we're at.
- 14:43Speaker 1: That's actually really exciting and I can't wait for you
- 14:45Speaker 1: guys to do that.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Yeah, And I'm really jealous because people don't know this
- 14:48Speaker 3: about us, but a lot of the time we spent
- 14:51Speaker 3: this year keeping each other sane, was looking on real
- 14:53Speaker 3: estate dot com dot au at houses for each other.
- 14:55Speaker 3: And now that you've bought one, it's sort of like, oh, well,
- 14:57Speaker 3: we can't really look now, it's not as fun. Yeah.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I think that was actually so fun because we'd send
- 15:02Speaker 1: each other like ridiculous houses. I think you found me
- 15:05Speaker 1: one like way out in Balarat.
- 15:07Speaker 3: It was in Balerie a three point eight million. I
- 15:09Speaker 3: was like, what about this just for a weekend.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Yeah, of course I can't afford a third of that,
- 15:17Speaker 1: but no, it was really fun, and I think we
- 15:19Speaker 1: need to take shares in real estate dot com dot are.
- 15:21Speaker 3: You absolutely now we are going to do things a
- 15:25Speaker 3: little bit differently. We're still if people want to post
- 15:27Speaker 3: their money wins in the group, they're more than welcome.
- 15:29Speaker 3: But jess what are we doing every week? Because we
- 15:31Speaker 3: kind of want to clump them together, right.
- 15:33Speaker 1: We want more clarity in the Facebook group.
- 15:35Speaker 3: We do.
- 15:35Speaker 1: We've been hard.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Yeah, we've been listening. We love when you give us feedback,
- 15:39Speaker 2: and we know that some people will finding it really
- 15:41Speaker 2: hard to find the specific things that they were looking
- 15:43Speaker 2: for and the really great discussions we have going on.
- 15:46Speaker 2: So from now on, every Monday, I will be posting
- 15:48Speaker 2: up a money win Monday thread, which doesn't just have
- 15:52Speaker 2: to be for Monday. Of course, you can share them
- 15:54Speaker 2: with us all week long, but you get a new
- 15:56Speaker 2: thread every Monday, correct, So I will make sure that
- 15:58Speaker 2: they're pinned either in the announcements or the pinned posts
- 16:01Speaker 2: at the top of the page every week, so they're
- 16:03Speaker 2: super easy for you to find, and then you can
- 16:05Speaker 2: go through the comments like and interact exactly the same
- 16:08Speaker 2: as we normally do. It's just going to be a
- 16:09Speaker 2: little sleeker in the feed.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I love that. Speaking of our Facebook group, let's head
- 16:15Speaker 1: back to the community for a minute. We all have
- 16:18Speaker 1: found our favorite post of the week or of the month.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Yep, because we've had a cho from over here.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Yeah, we've had a fair feuder choose from over cosy.
- 16:26Speaker 1: So before we wrap this episode up, which arguably is
- 16:30Speaker 1: a lot fluffier than our normal She's on the Money episodes,
- 16:33Speaker 1: you would have noticed that we've been breaking it up
- 16:35Speaker 1: a little bit more because one, we love to be
- 16:37Speaker 1: in your ears more often, so now you're going to
- 16:39Speaker 1: get three episodes of Shees on the Money each in
- 16:41Speaker 1: every single week. But two, we feel like this Friday
- 16:45Speaker 1: wrap is kind of like Friday afternoon drinks or Friday
- 16:47Speaker 1: morning drinks with your friends and checking in out a
- 16:50Speaker 1: community and checking in with our friends and just seeing
- 16:52Speaker 1: how you're doing and wishing you a good weekend before
- 16:54Speaker 1: you get to hear your money day on Monday.
- 16:56Speaker 3: There definitely is Friday vibes because we have all lost
- 16:58Speaker 3: the plot.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Yeah, we have been in the studio for so long.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Yep. So, Jess, what was your favorite post?
- 17:05Speaker 2: My favorite post came from Donna, who left us a
- 17:07Speaker 2: beautiful long summary of her twenty twenty. Like many of us,
- 17:10Speaker 2: it was a bit of a garbage fire. Started off
- 17:13Speaker 2: so well. She got her dream job. She was a
- 17:15Speaker 2: flight attendant working internationally, and then, as you can imagine,
- 17:19Speaker 2: came crashing down around March. Because I would have had
- 17:23Speaker 2: it really hard, so tough, her and her partner both
- 17:26Speaker 2: lost their jobs. Of course, like all of us, she
- 17:29Speaker 2: went through that really tough period of feeling sorry for herself,
- 17:32Speaker 2: not being sure what to do, and then kind of
- 17:34Speaker 2: got it back together around April, started applying for jobs
- 17:37Speaker 2: like crazy, smashed it out of the top park and
- 17:40Speaker 2: got a job for herself full time in November. And
- 17:43Speaker 2: now they've paid off their debt, they're saving she's closed zippage,
- 17:47Speaker 2: she's closed after pay and she said she's so positive
- 17:49Speaker 2: and looking to the future now I love that.
- 17:53Speaker 1: Yeah, that makes my heart.
- 17:54Speaker 3: So, yeah, there are some great stories like that in
- 17:56Speaker 3: the group of It has been a tough year, but
- 17:58Speaker 3: even just that, you just say green shoots of positivity
- 18:02Speaker 3: coming into a new year with a new job and
- 18:04Speaker 3: stuff like that job's coming back.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm so excited for them. How epic is bat Ryan?
- 18:09Speaker 1: Did you have a post that you really liked this week?
- 18:12Speaker 3: I've never seen someone Usually when you're like, I want
- 18:16Speaker 3: to save this amount of money, you kind of like
- 18:17Speaker 3: almost get there if you get close.
- 18:19Speaker 1: But it's like if you save ten thousand dollars, you're like, yeah,
- 18:22Speaker 1: eight thousand, one hundred, Yeah, yeah, I mean that's good.
- 18:26Speaker 3: So Mel said that this year, and this is from December.
- 18:29Speaker 3: She said it was a bit of a due or
- 18:30Speaker 3: die year for me. I was really determined to save
- 18:33Speaker 3: thirty five thousand by the end of the year.
- 18:35Speaker 1: That's a big goal. Yeah, that's a massive goal.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Of I know. And she thought that herself. When everything
- 18:41Speaker 3: started turning to crab you know, she goes, Okay, maybe
- 18:43Speaker 3: thirty five is pushing it. I'll just settle for thirty. Well,
- 18:46Speaker 3: by the end of the year, she hit forty thousand, dollars,
- 18:50Speaker 3: so she exceeded her original prediction by five thousand, and
- 18:53Speaker 3: then even after she brought it.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Down, I accidentally saved an extra five grand. I cannot
- 18:59Speaker 1: say that I've ever been in that position.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Yeah, and that happened. People may recognize this post because
- 19:04Speaker 3: so many people have commented and just been like, congratulations,
- 19:07Speaker 3: this is amazing, really impressive. And I agree, Melissa, well
- 19:12Speaker 3: done your legend. And how you kept saying I sort
- 19:14Speaker 3: of got to the point where like, oh, I can
- 19:15Speaker 3: celebrate now, but to keep going, well done to you.
- 19:20Speaker 3: What's your one?
- 19:21Speaker 1: All right? So my one is from Mikayla, and this
- 19:24Speaker 1: actually warmed my heart, and I know that it warmed
- 19:26Speaker 1: the heart of at least five and a half thousand
- 19:27Speaker 1: others of you, because that's how many people have liked
- 19:30Speaker 1: this post thus far. It needs only been recently posted.
- 19:35Speaker 1: So Michayla said, hello, ladies, first post I've ever shared,
- 19:38Speaker 1: and I wanted to share a story about my mum,
- 19:41Speaker 1: which I think is really special because mums are special people.
- 19:44Speaker 1: She said. About ten years ago, my mum had a
- 19:46Speaker 1: workplace accident that still sees her struggling today with medical issues.
- 19:50Speaker 1: She slipped a disk in her back, which is terrible
- 19:53Speaker 1: and literally the worst. But then she's also been diagnosed
- 19:55Speaker 1: with type one diabetes, has high blood pressure, and a
- 19:58Speaker 1: whole heap of other stuff which honestly sucks and is
- 20:00Speaker 1: the worst. But about three years ago, her and her
- 20:04Speaker 1: three brothers decided to open and join bank account together
- 20:07Speaker 1: for their mum, and they've all been contributing ten dollars
- 20:10Speaker 1: a week each to this account to set aside for her,
- 20:13Speaker 1: hopefully like go on a cruise or something. But then
- 20:15Speaker 1: obviously after twenty twenty and no one wants to go
- 20:17Speaker 1: on a cruise, So on Christmas Day for her present,
- 20:21Speaker 1: they gave her a bank statement of six seven hundred
- 20:24Speaker 1: dollars and obviously she said, that's not a direct money win,
- 20:28Speaker 1: but I just thought it was a really nice story
- 20:30Speaker 1: to share, which it was, Mikayla, that is so beautiful
- 20:33Speaker 1: and from a picture it looks like her mum is
- 20:36Speaker 1: literally broken, like she looks so happy, but also you
- 20:39Speaker 1: can tell she's bawling her eyes out, So I like,
- 20:43Speaker 1: how beautiful, And then she said, once my mom found
- 20:46Speaker 1: her voice, she said that she wants to go on
- 20:48Speaker 1: a family holiday to New Zealand, one great location, but
- 20:51Speaker 1: Michayla said, well, I'm better start saving. So I really
- 20:56Speaker 1: liked that and I thought that was really beautiful and
- 20:58Speaker 1: I just think that that is a one of my
- 21:00Speaker 1: favorite quotes from Little Things, Big Things Grow and look
- 21:03Speaker 1: at the impact that they could have had. Don't you
- 21:05Speaker 1: dare play that song?
- 21:06Speaker 3: Ryan Jo? So what did you say?
- 21:07Speaker 1: No, I'm not gonna say it again. Please leave?
- 21:10Speaker 2: No?
- 21:11Speaker 3: Are we almost done? Anyway? Yeah, this is from Little Things,
- 21:15Speaker 3: Big Things Grow.
- 21:18Speaker 1: That's the radio hosting Ryan John. But anyway, I thought
- 21:21Speaker 1: that was a really great post. That just show us
- 21:23Speaker 1: that over the long term, that stuff does really add
- 21:25Speaker 1: up and that can really change someone's life. So I
- 21:28Speaker 1: think that that is just it's awesome. So given I'm
- 21:30Speaker 1: being played off with music, I think it's about time
- 21:33Speaker 1: to wrap the show. So just before we head off, though,
- 21:35Speaker 1: we'd like to acknowledge and pay respect to Australia's Aboriginal
- 21:38Speaker 1: and Torrestrate islander people's, the traditional custodians of the lands,
- 21:41Speaker 1: the waterways and the skies all across Australia. We thank
- 21:45Speaker 1: you for sharing and for caring on the land which
- 21:47Speaker 1: we are able to learn. We pay our respects to
- 21:49Speaker 1: elders past and present, and we share our friendship and
- 21:52Speaker 1: our kindness. Now, the advice shared on Cheese on the Money,
- 21:55Speaker 1: even on Friday episodes, is general in nature and does
- 21:58Speaker 1: not consider your personal self ccumstances. She's on the Money
- 22:01Speaker 1: exists purely for educational purposes and should not be relied
- 22:05Speaker 1: upon to make an investment or a financial decision. And
- 22:08Speaker 1: we promise I am actually an authorized representative of Australia

- 22:24Speaker 1: Ryan and Digest for joining me today, who are our
- 22:27Speaker 1: producer and community management and content creating angels that help
- 22:32Speaker 1: us bring these pods together and you know run our community,
- 22:35Speaker 1: which I appreciate endlessly.
- 22:38Speaker 3: You welcome from little things, big things grow I've done.
- 22:44Speaker 3: I can't don't forget to keep sharing your stories in
- 22:49Speaker 3: the group. By the way, because we're going to do
- 22:51Speaker 3: an episode every Friday, sharing our favorite post, sharing our
- 22:53Speaker 3: favorite money wins, and sharing all the things that's happening
- 22:56Speaker 3: in the community. So please keep posting. If you've got
- 22:58Speaker 3: any friends, please recommend it. Victoria off the top of
- 23:00Speaker 3: your head, Do you know what we're up to? People
- 23:02Speaker 3: in the group.
- 23:02Speaker 1: We are up to I think one hundred and eighteen
- 23:05Speaker 1: thousand people in OW. She's on the Money community, which guys,
- 23:08Speaker 1: makes a lot of sense as to why we now
- 23:11Speaker 1: have Jessica on as our full time community and content
- 23:14Speaker 1: creating manager.
- 23:15Speaker 3: How how biggers agree when you started, Like.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Obviously, when I started a Facebook group, there.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Was no one in it, so I was quite little.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Little things speak, things grow.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I was trying not to say it. That's enough from
- 23:36Speaker 1: us this week.
