- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:26Speaker 2: the millennials who want financial freedom. Welcome to another one
- 0:30Speaker 2: of our Friday Drinks episodes from Lockdown, where we celebrate
- 0:34Speaker 2: the Money wents from our She's on the Money community
- 0:37Speaker 2: and type each other up significantly because there are so
- 0:41Speaker 2: many great wins and confessions that are shared in our
- 0:43Speaker 2: community each and every single week on our Facebook group
- 0:47Speaker 2: and even through Lockdown. Our team share them all in
- 0:50Speaker 2: our group chat.
- 0:51Speaker 3: So it only.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Feels fair to extend that opportunity to you guys to
- 0:55Speaker 2: talk about our group what's been going on, and update
- 0:59Speaker 2: you on what's been happening on the pod if you
- 1:00Speaker 2: missed it, so to jump straight in Tony Lodge what
- 1:04Speaker 2: happened this week on Money Diaries.
- 1:07Speaker 4: So this week, and with all due respect to our
- 1:10Speaker 4: Money Diarist was a very normal episode and very relatable,
- 1:14Speaker 4: which I think was was it's a great time to
- 1:18Speaker 4: have a normal one when there's enough going on in
- 1:20Speaker 4: the world that you know, a bit of normality is good.
- 1:23Speaker 4: When she moved out of home to go to UNI,
- 1:25Speaker 4: she got a credit card kind of snowballed her own debt,
- 1:29Speaker 4: which is super relatable for everybody. The girl and talked
- 1:33Speaker 4: about how she then read the first three chapters of
- 1:36Speaker 4: the Barefoot Investor book and is now, you know, putting
- 1:39Speaker 4: a deposit on a house and she's killing it.
- 1:42Speaker 2: She's got a great job.
- 1:43Speaker 4: And yeah, it was just a really nice one for
- 1:45Speaker 4: someone to kind of say, I had debt and I
- 1:47Speaker 4: had to pay it off and figure it out. And also,
- 1:50Speaker 4: if I may say myself, one of the best quotes
- 1:53Speaker 4: ever was shared by me.
- 1:55Speaker 5: That's oh okay again, I'm.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Glad it's been you know, re urged and gone through
- 2:01Speaker 2: general consensus to make sure that we're all on board
- 2:04Speaker 2: with the fact that this is, according to Tony, one
- 2:07Speaker 2: of the best cheese on the money quotes.
- 2:09Speaker 5: In the episode as well.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Okay, but you shouldn't just quote people quoting myself.
- 2:15Speaker 4: No, that I shared that one thousand dollars is not
- 2:19Speaker 4: a lot of money to have, but it is a
- 2:20Speaker 4: lot of money to owe. Yes, sorry, I take everything back.
- 2:26Speaker 4: And we had a few people saying that was like
- 2:27Speaker 4: a nice little outlook. So yeah, I think it was
- 2:29Speaker 4: a good episode.
- 2:31Speaker 2: I loved that episode actually, as much as it was
- 2:33Speaker 2: quote normal, I think it was a nice to have
- 2:35Speaker 2: one that I related to and I know the best way. Yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 2: like that everybody can relate to that, So that was
- 2:42Speaker 2: really good. Jess What happened this week on our deep Dive?
- 2:45Speaker 6: So this week you and g spoke about five apps
- 2:48Speaker 6: that can make you money right now to day. If
- 2:51Speaker 6: you picked up your phone this very second, they could
- 2:54Speaker 6: make you money. I know it sounds a little scammy,
- 2:57Speaker 6: a little Clickbaby's not scammy.
- 2:58Speaker 2: I promise we aren't a scam.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Correct, But if you sign up right now, you get
- 3:02Speaker 3: a ten percent discount.
- 3:03Speaker 6: Guys, Jessica is the best, but a few different things
- 3:09Speaker 6: from like reselling items to picking up odd jobs like
- 3:12Speaker 6: pet sitting, different bits and pieces that you can do.
- 3:14Speaker 6: And we know that a lot of people in our
- 3:16Speaker 6: community are doing it tough right now with lockdown and
- 3:19Speaker 6: might need a little bit of extra wiggle room in
- 3:20Speaker 6: their cash flow. So hopefully that episode helped you out
- 3:23Speaker 6: and gave you some suggestions on what you might be
- 3:25Speaker 6: able to do.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Yeah, because we always talk about our friends from shop
- 3:28Speaker 2: back and our friends at Shares's, which are arguably two
- 3:31Speaker 2: of our favorite apps that make us money. But those
- 3:34Speaker 2: two apps require you to have money to make money
- 3:36Speaker 2: and the apps that we recommended. You don't need anything,
- 3:39Speaker 2: you just need to sign up and start doing it,
- 3:42Speaker 2: which I really liked. And Georgia and I promised that
- 3:45Speaker 2: you could do most of them from your couch or
- 3:48Speaker 2: from someone else's couch in the case of pet sitting.
- 3:51Speaker 5: Jess.
- 3:51Speaker 2: We were incredibly complimentary of you your Facebook manifestation skills
- 3:56Speaker 2: and the fact that you are essentially the queen of
- 3:58Speaker 2: deepop us. We'll get that later. We'll wrap up our
- 4:01Speaker 2: accountability or guest challenge because I want to know exactly
- 4:04Speaker 2: how you've gone on deepop But before we get to
- 4:06Speaker 2: all of that, because I'm actually really excited about it,
- 4:10Speaker 2: Ryan John, what has been going on in the Facebook
- 4:13Speaker 2: community this week? And what do you want to share?
- 4:16Speaker 3: All Right, there are some great wins this week. Some
- 4:19Speaker 3: are very small, but I think sometimes the smallest winds
- 4:21Speaker 3: can often be the most hilarious. So there's a couple
- 4:23Speaker 3: of good guns Mighty, including Michelle who when she ordered
- 4:27Speaker 3: fish and chips, got an extra flake hashtag money well done.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Result that's even bigger than getting an extra dimmy like flake.
- 4:35Speaker 2: That's like eight, that's a big deal.
- 4:37Speaker 6: I don't like you always get an extra potato cake
- 4:39Speaker 6: or an extra DYMSM, but a flake that's big.
- 4:42Speaker 2: That's big, and I reckon that they're not a good
- 4:44Speaker 2: fish and chip shop unless they give you bonus potato cakes.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree with that. Now, just talking about making
- 4:50Speaker 3: money from the couch, NICKI has been listening to She's
- 4:52Speaker 3: on the money. She's been using spaceship and automating some
- 4:56Speaker 3: investment each month. She just gave her husband her referral
- 4:59Speaker 3: co and earned five dollars without leaving the cat. Well done.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Danny L has been looking for a do I say
- 5:08Speaker 3: a faux leather blazer? Perfect? Yep, So you're going to
- 5:12Speaker 3: say fox, yeah, because that's how it felt. But she
- 5:18Speaker 3: was struggling to justify the ninety dollars spend, so she
- 5:21Speaker 3: Jessica Rickett it and manifested a Facebook marketplace one and
- 5:25Speaker 3: picked up the exact same blazer for ten dollars instead
- 5:28Speaker 3: of ninety. Say one yep, she said, barely been worn
- 5:33Speaker 3: someone more at once wasn't for them. She picked it up.
- 5:34Speaker 3: They only lived two streets away, so when she did
- 5:36Speaker 3: her daily exercise for the day went for a walk,
- 5:39Speaker 3: she just literally walked down the street, picked it up,
- 5:41Speaker 3: gave him ten bucks and was on her way. Well
- 5:43Speaker 3: you love that, Natalie, and I know you've already seen
- 5:46Speaker 3: this one v Natalie said, I just re listened to
- 5:49Speaker 3: the Nailing Job Interview one oh one episode, which also
- 5:53Speaker 3: Lucy's listened to as well. Apparently I listened to it
- 5:55Speaker 3: because I had a job interview and I just got
- 5:58Speaker 3: my dream job iron sealed and delivered so well.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Literally made my heart so happy. I saw that. But
- 6:05Speaker 2: did you see that? Someone replied and said, same, two
- 6:09Speaker 2: people who got new jobs because they'd listened to the
- 6:12Speaker 2: episode and had implemented our tips and tricks, which I think,
- 6:15Speaker 2: obviously I'm taking full credit for them getting their new
- 6:18Speaker 2: jobs when we had probably absolutely nothing to do with it.
- 6:21Speaker 3: That's been good, don't say yourself. Sure, there's there's some
- 6:23Speaker 3: really good tips in the interview episode, and some of
- 6:25Speaker 3: them seem like until someone mentions it, you go, oh,
- 6:29Speaker 3: of course, But it's really easy to implement. So I'm
- 6:31Speaker 3: happy for Natalie. And she graduates unit at the end
- 6:33Speaker 3: of this year and the job starts in February. So
- 6:36Speaker 3: imagine you're halfway up, you're halfway through last year, and
- 6:38Speaker 3: you've already got a job ready to go at.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Such a dreamy. I love that for her.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Jessica got offered a new position at work. She's only
- 6:46Speaker 3: been there for two months.
- 6:47Speaker 2: Yes, good job, Ryan, you outed.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Me a different. Jessica has got offered a new position
- 6:54Speaker 3: at her work. She's only been there for two months,
- 6:56Speaker 3: and she said I had imposter syndrome. I didn't think
- 6:58Speaker 3: I could do it two months in. I've got to
- 6:59Speaker 3: promote and extra twenty thousand dollars a year, Oh my gosh,
- 7:04Speaker 3: plus twelve percent super as well, if you don't mind.
- 7:07Speaker 2: On top of that, well, I don't mind if I do.
- 7:10Speaker 3: My friends who Rihanna, now here's a big one. I
- 7:14Speaker 3: just got pre approval for a home loan to buy
- 7:17Speaker 3: my first house, all on my own. I've been listening
- 7:21Speaker 3: to She's on the Money for years. I've been saving hard,
- 7:23Speaker 3: and now I've got pre approval. We're signed off. I
- 7:26Speaker 3: just need to find a place, so Welllash.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Yes, how good is it when people that have been
- 7:31Speaker 2: in our community for ages finally achieve their goals? Like
- 7:35Speaker 2: it's so exciting. It's literally my favorite part of She's
- 7:38Speaker 2: on the Money is you guys sharing what you're achieving
- 7:41Speaker 2: with us?
- 7:41Speaker 3: Will Yeah and if you want to go check out
- 7:43Speaker 3: the Property Playbook, because I know if she's going to
- 7:45Speaker 3: start doing inspections and looking around, there's a whole bunch
- 7:48Speaker 3: of tips and tricks and little things to look out
- 7:50Speaker 3: for and hidden costs you might want to avoid. So
- 7:52Speaker 3: the Property Playbook for Anna. So from Rhannon to Briannon
- 7:58Speaker 3: from re to bre Brie says, I haven't spent a
- 8:03Speaker 3: single dollar on petrol all month because of lockdown. I
- 8:06Speaker 3: guess there is a silver line.
- 8:08Speaker 2: That is a pretty good win. That is a win.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I would love everybody who's potentially in a position where
- 8:14Speaker 2: they were spending money on petrol to transfer that money
- 8:18Speaker 2: to savings so it doesn't get spent on something else
- 8:20Speaker 2: during lockdown.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Though it's aggressive language from Victoria Devine, but very smart.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I'm just an aggressive kind of person, guys, That's just
- 8:27Speaker 2: who I am.
- 8:30Speaker 3: And finally, Rachel said, I've been wanting to buy an
- 8:33Speaker 3: outdoor furniture set for my backyard.
- 8:35Speaker 2: For ages or expensive.
- 8:37Speaker 3: I had no idea how expensive they could be. I
- 8:40Speaker 3: was looking at a year ago and we just didn't
- 8:42Speaker 3: bother because they were like thousands of thousands dollars. Yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 3: so Rachel said on Sunday morning, I went for a
- 8:48Speaker 3: run and someone had put a full outdoor setting on
- 8:50Speaker 3: the side of the road in excellent condition. It turns
- 8:53Speaker 3: out they've upgraded. So it just knocked on the door
- 8:55Speaker 3: and said, hey, maybe you mean.
- 8:57Speaker 2: To leave that out?
- 8:59Speaker 5: Yeah, moving in and out of the front.
- 9:03Speaker 2: She checked though, that's so respectable.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Imagine Rachel, like money win, I robbed these people. So no,
- 9:10Speaker 3: it was in excellent condition. They had just upgraded. So
- 9:12Speaker 3: she quickly ran home and got the in laws that hey, guys,
- 9:15Speaker 3: come follow me. You got to help me out, and
- 9:16Speaker 3: they carried it down the street at the table and
- 9:19Speaker 3: chairs and stuff. So she said she was looking at
- 9:22Speaker 3: spending about five hundred dollars minimum, and that's really minimum.
- 9:25Speaker 3: But yeah, no, She's like, that was the real bottom end.
- 9:28Speaker 3: But now we've spent zero dollars and we are set.
- 9:31Speaker 3: So well done, Rachel, huge win, huge.
- 9:34Speaker 5: Win, money win Tobes and I did that with a microwave. Once.
- 9:40Speaker 5: We got a free microwave and we had to walk
- 9:43Speaker 5: it all the way home.
- 9:44Speaker 4: It was like three blocks away. We didn't have a
- 9:46Speaker 4: car at the time, so we just carry it all
- 9:49Speaker 4: the way home.
- 9:49Speaker 2: A microwave is a lot heavier than you would except
- 9:53Speaker 2: I can imagine. Good question though, did you just find
- 9:56Speaker 2: it on the side of the road?
- 9:57Speaker 5: No, no, no, no.
- 9:58Speaker 2: OA, Because I was about to say, I was about
- 10:02Speaker 2: to say, did you literally carry a microwave for three
- 10:06Speaker 2: blocks with the hope that it was working? Can you
- 10:11Speaker 2: imagine if you got it home and they were like, thump,
- 10:13Speaker 2: that's the reason it was on the side.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Of the road, take it back.
- 10:18Speaker 6: I feel like that's an interesting thread maybe for Friday.
- 10:20Speaker 6: Let us know what's the best thing you've picked up
- 10:22Speaker 6: on the side of the road, because I've seen a
- 10:25Speaker 6: few good ones, and I've never been so lucky. I'm
- 10:28Speaker 6: quite envious of the people who find really fantastic things,
- 10:30Speaker 6: so I'd love to know what it was.
- 10:31Speaker 2: I want to know your hard rubbish winds.
- 10:33Speaker 3: All right, let's put that in the group. And I
- 10:35Speaker 3: just want to add for hard rubbish. When I was
- 10:37Speaker 3: really little, like probably grade six, grade five, I always
- 10:40Speaker 3: used to take a bicycle helmet as I walked. There
- 10:43Speaker 3: was a couple of kilometers to school, because I didn't
- 10:46Speaker 3: know what I was going to find on the way,
- 10:47Speaker 3: but I knew i'd find something, whether it was an
- 10:49Speaker 3: old scooter or an old bike or a trolley. I
- 10:51Speaker 3: just knew there'd be something ridable on the way to school,
- 10:53Speaker 3: and I did that every year during hard rubbish and
- 10:55Speaker 3: all our friends rock up like, oh we found a scooter,
- 10:57Speaker 3: Oh what did you find? Oh we found this old
- 11:00Speaker 3: But you.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Cared enough to But you cared enough about your safety.
- 11:04Speaker 3: My mum told me to. And I can tell you
- 11:08Speaker 3: that one day I rode someone's desk chair down the
- 11:10Speaker 3: hill to my house.
- 11:13Speaker 5: I'm glad that you did have a helmet for that.
- 11:14Speaker 5: That sounds like it could be pretty dangerous.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Yeah, what it really was.
- 11:19Speaker 5: We don't condone this.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't condone that type of behavior, but if
- 11:23Speaker 2: you are going to do it, please take your helmet.
- 11:24Speaker 3: My friend, absolutely safety first. Please go to this she's
- 11:27Speaker 3: on the money Facebook group. Joined the one hundred and
- 11:30Speaker 3: ninety thousand people in there, and tell us your hard
- 11:33Speaker 3: rubbish wins and we'll share them on this podcast next week.
- 11:42Speaker 2: All right, whipping back into this episode, guys, it is
- 11:46Speaker 2: the end of accountability August. We have been sharing our
- 11:50Speaker 2: accountability tips in the community. We've seen you guys all
- 11:53Speaker 2: over Instagram sharing our little Instagram story posts that you
- 11:58Speaker 2: could fill in and share your goals and you were
- 12:00Speaker 2: going to achieve. I know that I definitely haven't stuck
- 12:04Speaker 2: to my goal, but I've learned a thing or two
- 12:06Speaker 2: along the way.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Brian John, why do you always have to start with me,
- 12:11Speaker 3: which you know I've failed miserically.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Well, I just feel we can only go up from
- 12:16Speaker 2: after you.
- 12:17Speaker 3: How did you go on at fair?
- 12:20Speaker 2: How did you go during accountability August?
- 12:23Speaker 3: So my goal was to not spend any money on
- 12:26Speaker 3: Uber Eats for the entirety of August. And two days
- 12:30Speaker 3: after I said that, we went into a lockdown. And
- 12:32Speaker 3: as we've discussed many times, if there's one thing in
- 12:35Speaker 3: lockdown you can actually look forward to in your day
- 12:37Speaker 3: to give you a little spark of joy, food, it's food. Food.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Maybe living with my wife is also great, but food,
- 12:44Speaker 3: genuinely is great. And so the first few weeks I
- 12:47Speaker 3: pushed hard and I tried to use door dash or
- 12:52Speaker 3: use Bridget's account. But that is cheating, is it really is?
- 12:56Speaker 3: And that by the last week I've just really bombed
- 12:58Speaker 3: out hard and just got a move read to be honest,
- 13:00Speaker 3: but I just wanted to share two things quickly. I
- 13:03Speaker 3: did post a thing on TikTok this.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Week it's about to say, do you want to describe it?
- 13:09Speaker 2: You literally posted a TikTok during Accountability August how the
- 13:14Speaker 2: thing you're best at cooking in the kitchen is actually
- 13:17Speaker 2: cooking up excuses toward uber each.
- 13:20Speaker 3: It's my best thing I can cook up now. I
- 13:22Speaker 3: posted this. Alisha Grace commented on TikTok and said, Ryan,
- 13:27Speaker 3: there's still two days left of Accountability August.
- 13:31Speaker 2: He's not wrong.
- 13:33Speaker 3: And I replied to Alisha, I was like, mate, like
- 13:36Speaker 3: you said, Jess, weeks and weeks have gone past before
- 13:38Speaker 3: that was really But can I just point out I
- 13:41Speaker 3: was adamant that out of the hundreds of thousands of
- 13:43Speaker 3: people in the group, that I was not last. And
- 13:45Speaker 3: I think I've sound someone worse than me, well, not
- 13:48Speaker 3: worse than me, but just maybe who didn't succeed. I
- 13:50Speaker 3: don't want to be aggressive because I love this, but
- 13:52Speaker 3: Catherine says, I was supposed to go around the house
- 13:56Speaker 3: and sell a whole bunch of things on Facebook Marketplace,
- 13:59Speaker 3: and I was gonna make a huge profit. Instead, I
- 14:02Speaker 3: accidentally bought a puppy and sold nothings.
- 14:05Speaker 2: That's not failing, that's winning.
- 14:07Speaker 3: That is brilliant.
- 14:09Speaker 2: That's a great way to get off doing the challenge. Though,
- 14:11Speaker 2: oh sorry, accidentally got a puppy.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Accidentally got a puppy, she goes, but don't worry. September
- 14:16Speaker 3: will be my month, so nice work, Catherine. September will
- 14:21Speaker 3: also be my month. Let's not check back on this
- 14:24Speaker 3: one though. Let's go to Tony. Can you remind us
- 14:27Speaker 3: what you were attempting?
- 14:29Speaker 4: Okay, So my accountability August challenge was for no discretionary spending,
- 14:33Speaker 4: so only spending on things like brant, food and bills,
- 14:36Speaker 4: anything legally binding.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I anything legally binding.
- 14:40Speaker 4: I didn't buy anything that wasn't like we bought takeaway
- 14:44Speaker 4: a couple of times, and I.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Think during lockdown that's completely excusable. Everybody is going to say, yep,
- 14:51Speaker 2: she deserves that, you know. Yeah, it's true. Girls gotta eat.
- 14:55Speaker 4: And I didn't buy anything like any clothes or anything
- 15:00Speaker 4: for the whole month until Saturday, I bought a TV,
- 15:04Speaker 4: so I didn't.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Buy like a ten dollar top on. Asofs you literally
- 15:10Speaker 2: went and bought an entire television set.
- 15:13Speaker 4: But I would just like to preface or not preface,
- 15:17Speaker 4: because I'm saying it after. I would just like to
- 15:20Speaker 4: stick up for myself for yourself, defend myself. Thank you
- 15:24Speaker 4: didn't spend money on language. Apparently I've become so much
- 15:28Speaker 4: more mindful about things, and I haven't sat down and
- 15:32Speaker 4: just scrolled through and added things to my car, which
- 15:36Speaker 4: is so easy to do, especially when like everybody, I've got,
- 15:40Speaker 4: you know, my cash hub, my fun money, and I've
- 15:42Speaker 4: got all these different accounts. So if I know that
- 15:45Speaker 4: there's money in my fun money, I don't just go oh,
- 15:48Speaker 4: I might as well, or I like that enough to
- 15:51Speaker 4: buy it.
- 15:51Speaker 5: I was actually thinking, you know what, no, I don't
- 15:54Speaker 5: need that.
- 15:54Speaker 4: And the TV was a big purchase that we that
- 15:58Speaker 4: my boyfriend and I talked about for a while, and
- 16:01Speaker 4: we went halves from our fun money instead of being like, oh,
- 16:04Speaker 4: this is a necessity.
- 16:06Speaker 5: So I feel like we've come a long way.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Besides the TV, Tony, if you could put a dollar
- 16:12Speaker 3: amount on your discretionary spending for the month, do you think, oh.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Well, actually I can tell you because I put all
- 16:21Speaker 4: of my money into my upsaver.
- 16:24Speaker 2: We'll you do that, Tony.
- 16:25Speaker 6: I just want to say I am so impressed that
- 16:27Speaker 6: you made it through the whole Like that isn't not
- 16:29Speaker 6: a small feet, do you know, especially in lockdown where
- 16:33Speaker 6: we're really scrounging around for like a drip of joy
- 16:37Speaker 6: or serotonin.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I feel like you've done such a good job. Yeah,
- 16:41Speaker 2: I'm so proud of you.
- 16:42Speaker 5: But I mean, don't get it wrong.
- 16:43Speaker 4: On Wednesday, when it hit September first, I got that
- 16:46Speaker 4: serotonin back.
- 16:48Speaker 2: So how much did you end up September?
- 16:52Speaker 4: So all of the money that I didn't spend or
- 16:55Speaker 4: put aside when I went to spend it and I
- 16:58Speaker 4: put aside, I mean money from my fun money that
- 17:02Speaker 4: when I got new fun money, like my allowance kicked in,
- 17:05Speaker 4: I just put all of that money into my overflow
- 17:09Speaker 4: and that account has five hundred and seventy six dollars
- 17:12Speaker 4: in it.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that is so good.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Yep.
- 17:16Speaker 5: So I'm going to go and spend that now. If
- 17:18Speaker 5: we could wrap this up, I'll wrap.
- 17:20Speaker 2: This up really quickly. But I do have another question
- 17:22Speaker 2: for you, Tony. You mentioned before that it made you
- 17:25Speaker 2: feel a little bit more mindful. Do you think that's
- 17:28Speaker 2: going to carry on? Do you think that you're spending
- 17:30Speaker 2: habits will change because you did this challenge?
- 17:33Speaker 4: I think that they will because I feel, you know, how,
- 17:36Speaker 4: what's that thing? It takes twenty days to break a
- 17:39Speaker 4: happy eight days to create after days.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Yeah, so I.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Feel like not actually sitting on my phone and just
- 17:46Speaker 4: mindlessly adding things to my cart, I feel like actually
- 17:49Speaker 4: will make a difference. I know it sounds really silly,
- 17:52Speaker 4: but it's so easy as well to just spend, like
- 17:55Speaker 4: you said, that ten dollars on that top on aesouce
- 17:57Speaker 4: or you know, just a little bit of money on
- 18:00Speaker 4: something when.
- 18:01Speaker 2: It adds up so quickly.
- 18:03Speaker 4: But because I didn't do that at all, none of
- 18:05Speaker 4: those cheeky ten dollars were ever leaving my account. And
- 18:09Speaker 4: it's like when you've done it for a month and
- 18:12Speaker 4: you've seen the impact it can actually.
- 18:14Speaker 5: Make, it makes you feel really good. I could feel
- 18:17Speaker 5: this self righteous all the time.
- 18:22Speaker 6: I love that for you definitely do that more so
- 18:26Speaker 6: if you need to raise yourself in the pecking order
- 18:28Speaker 6: of your friend's effects, you just want.
- 18:31Speaker 2: To steal better than everybody else. Take advice from Tony Lodge.
- 18:36Speaker 4: But I know that I saved quite a bit, but
- 18:39Speaker 4: I know that Jess made quite a bit.
- 18:42Speaker 3: I did.
- 18:43Speaker 6: I am so excited. I wasn't sure when we went
- 18:47Speaker 6: into lockdown. I thought, oh, that's it, Like I'm not
- 18:48Speaker 6: going to be able to sell anything because my plan
- 18:50Speaker 6: was originally to sell a bunch of stuff on Marketplace.
- 18:53Speaker 3: What was the goal. There's a money meaning.
- 18:55Speaker 6: For five hundred yeah, which was a little spicy, but
- 18:59Speaker 6: I actually ended up making eight.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Hundred and three seven years.
- 19:05Speaker 6: She yes, I sold a heap of stuff on deepop,
- 19:07Speaker 6: including to some beautiful community members, many of whom said,
- 19:11Speaker 6: I've put twenty four hours between me and this purchase
- 19:13Speaker 6: and I really wanted it aligns with my values and
- 19:16Speaker 6: made me tell you that made me so happy. But
- 19:19Speaker 6: I got really lucky and I had an appliance that
- 19:21Speaker 6: I had listed on Marketplace ages ago for one hundred
- 19:24Speaker 6: and fifty bucks, sell to someone who lives in my estate.
- 19:27Speaker 6: And we did just like Danielle, I did contact less
- 19:30Speaker 6: pick up. They just transferred me the money, there was
- 19:32Speaker 6: no contact and I left it out the front for them,
- 19:33Speaker 6: which was awesome.
- 19:34Speaker 4: And really boosted that money up. You know, that is
- 19:39Speaker 4: so cool, Jess. That is such a huge effort. Eight
- 19:42Speaker 4: hundred dollars and then I'm proud of you look at
- 19:46Speaker 4: her go.
- 19:47Speaker 6: My big takeaway, I think was that you really don't
- 19:52Speaker 6: need the things that you think you do. Like I
- 19:54Speaker 6: did a big clear out pre lockdown and had a
- 19:56Speaker 6: bunch of stuff to sell, and then because I was
- 19:58Speaker 6: at home and board, I went through all my stuff
- 20:00Speaker 6: that I'd already been through and I found so much
- 20:03Speaker 6: more stuff that I was like, oh, like, I obviously
- 20:06Speaker 6: wasn't ruthless enough the first time. I don't need that.
- 20:08Speaker 6: I haven't used it in a year or whatever. So
- 20:10Speaker 6: I feel like, Yeah, just holding onto things that you're
- 20:13Speaker 6: not using is really not serving you when you could
- 20:16Speaker 6: sell them and have that money do something for you,
- 20:18Speaker 6: especially if you were to investor or something like that.
- 20:21Speaker 3: What are you going to do with the eight hundred
- 20:22Speaker 3: dollars yest?
- 20:22Speaker 5: Is this going into your kitchen aid fund?
- 20:25Speaker 2: No, it's not.
- 20:26Speaker 6: It's going into my emergency fund. Because my emergency fund
- 20:29Speaker 6: was pretty much an existent, so I had been dipping
- 20:34Speaker 6: into it and it had gone down, so I wanted
- 20:36Speaker 6: to get it back up to one thousand, and that
- 20:38Speaker 6: almost gets.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Me there, which is amazing.
- 20:40Speaker 3: I love that.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Yeah, that is literally so good. And I love how
- 20:45Speaker 2: easy it is to sell things on deepop and Facebook marketplace,
- 20:48Speaker 2: even during this time. It's also really easy to buy
- 20:52Speaker 2: things on Facebook markets And shout out to Alissa, who
- 20:56Speaker 2: I tried to purchase something from the other day, and
- 20:58Speaker 2: she replied to me and said, Victoria divine, is this
- 21:01Speaker 2: in line with your values? And I was like, oh
- 21:05Speaker 2: yet out, yes it is.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Please give me Are you trying to make a sale
- 21:09Speaker 3: or are you not made money?
- 21:11Speaker 2: For a money?
- 21:13Speaker 3: Could you imagine if a Lissa worked in retail, You're
- 21:15Speaker 3: going to buy some clothes and they're like, do you
- 21:17Speaker 3: really need this? You really need this?
- 21:20Speaker 2: Yes, she was a delight to deal with. I transferred
- 21:23Speaker 2: her the money. She sent me the dress perfect condition,
- 21:26Speaker 2: very happy, love of Facebook marketplace whin but didn't appreciate
- 21:31Speaker 2: the sas, but it made good content for our podcast.
- 21:33Speaker 2: So thank you so much Alyssa for coming.
- 21:35Speaker 3: The how is your lunch purchasing or their lack of
- 21:38Speaker 3: through the month of August?
- 21:40Speaker 2: Do you know what? I feel like I've been able
- 21:42Speaker 2: to stick to this, but I also feel like I've
- 21:44Speaker 2: missed out a bit, Like everybody's had these really good
- 21:47Speaker 2: outcomes by you. Ryan Jess has made eight bundred bucks,
- 21:51Speaker 2: Tony saved like five hundred dollars, and I'm here ordering
- 21:54Speaker 2: rice noodles or Uber eats at two pm because I
- 21:57Speaker 2: forgot to eat lunch because lockdown life, just like you're
- 22:00Speaker 2: on a seventeen hour international flight in your own home.
- 22:04Speaker 2: So I feel like I have not done as well
- 22:07Speaker 2: as I could have. But in saying that, I wasn't
- 22:11Speaker 2: in the office, so I often did just eat at
- 22:13Speaker 2: home because the food was literally right there in the fridge.
- 22:17Speaker 2: I didn't have to forethink about taking it to work.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I'll probably try and pick the challenge up again when
- 22:23Speaker 2: I get back to work and we're back in the office.
- 22:25Speaker 3: Small full time shout out to twenty twenty four when
- 22:27Speaker 3: we're back guys.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Seeing you. But I think that I'll have to pick
- 22:32Speaker 2: it up again and pick another challenge because I feel like,
- 22:35Speaker 2: as much as I love accountability August, I'm really looking
- 22:40Speaker 2: forward to saving September.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Guys, Well, I'll tell you I can't do nothing.
- 22:46Speaker 6: I know.
- 22:49Speaker 5: I need to spend some money.
- 22:52Speaker 3: And then blow out October, which will be one of
- 22:55Speaker 3: the great months. Because I just send a shout out
- 22:56Speaker 3: to Taliah, who, like Tony, wanted to do a no
- 22:59Speaker 3: spend month. Her total of unnecessary spending for the entire
- 23:03Speaker 3: month was sixty one dollars. She just spent.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Sixty one who, for your troll is a massive flex.
- 23:12Speaker 4: I thought you were going to say, that's what she saved.
- 23:15Speaker 4: I was like, Dalah as well as me spend sixty six.
- 23:20Speaker 3: Dollars spent, which is unbelievable. I reckon, I spent that
- 23:24Speaker 3: today in Uber eats. I spent that at lunch. So
- 23:28Speaker 3: well done, well done.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Oh so Ryan's rich. Rich guys spending sixty one dollars
- 23:34Speaker 2: on lunch. Here, I'm being like, what's the cheapest with
- 23:37Speaker 2: free delivery on ob I don't even know what that is.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I just clicked the buttons. I like it. Jess's
- 23:43Speaker 3: takeaway was there's way more stuff in your house than
- 23:45Speaker 3: you actually needed. My takeaway was takeaway beers, takeaway burgers.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Thank you much, thank you for coming. Ryan. I really
- 23:57Speaker 2: liked this challenge. I feel like accountability August is. It's
- 24:00Speaker 2: definitely something we'll pick up again as a community next year.
- 24:03Speaker 2: If you guys have any ideas that you want to
- 24:05Speaker 2: share with us for other monthly challenges that we could
- 24:07Speaker 2: do or the community could participate in, we want to
- 24:10Speaker 2: hear about them, comment on our Instagram or post them
- 24:13Speaker 2: in our Facebook group. We would adore hearing about them,
- 24:16Speaker 2: but as always, guys, I think that is all we
- 24:20Speaker 2: have time. For today. So just before we head off,
- 24:23Speaker 2: we'd like to acknowledge and pay respect to Australia's Aboriginal
- 24:26Speaker 2: and torrest Raight Islander people's. They're the traditional custodians of
- 24:30Speaker 2: the lands, the waterways and the skies all across Australia.
- 24:34Speaker 2: We thank you for sharing and for caring for the
- 24:36Speaker 2: land on which we are able to learn. We pay
- 24:39Speaker 2: respects to elders past and present, and we share our
- 24:42Speaker 2: friendship and our kindness.
- 24:44Speaker 4: The advice shared on She's on the Money is generally
- 24:46Speaker 4: nature and does not consider your individual circumstances. She's on
- 24:50Speaker 4: the Money exists purely for educational purposes and should not
- 24:53Speaker 4: be relied upon to make an investment or any financial decision.
- 24:57Speaker 4: And we promise that Victoria Devine is an author representative
- 25:00Speaker 4: of Australia Pacific Funds Management for Priortary Limited ABN three
- 25:04Speaker 4: four one three two four six three two five seven
- 25:07Speaker 4: AFSL three three nine one five one.
- 25:10Speaker 3: I've got a recommendation just before we leave all fun,
- 25:13Speaker 3: go and buy two copies of Victoria Devine's book, She's
- 25:17Speaker 3: on the Money. The first one you buy it purposely
- 25:20Speaker 3: for yourself, and the second one you buy it passively
- 25:22Speaker 3: aggressively for your friend who's terrible with money and give
- 25:25Speaker 3: it to them as a gift.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Passive aggressive book sales.
- 25:28Speaker 3: I love it.
- 25:31Speaker 4: She actually gets more money out of the passive aggressive form.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Yeah, she charges more for those satisfaction.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Really, it just does a better deal.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Hey, how's your saving going along? Interesting? Try reading this.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Maybe you want for a present and enjoy.
- 25:44Speaker 2: That's going to make a really good Christmas gift for
- 25:46Speaker 2: some people. I feel like it might become that gift
- 25:49Speaker 2: that you get people and then they're low key mad
- 25:51Speaker 2: at you about it on Christmas Day, But then next
- 25:54Speaker 2: year they're like, oh, hey, Tony, remember that present you
- 25:56Speaker 2: got that I didn't love so good? Changed my life?
- 25:59Speaker 5: Yeah, now I've got so much money.
- 26:01Speaker 4: I've brought you six PlayStations for Christmas.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Genius. I've always wanted six PlayStations. See you next week, guys.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Bye bye
