- 0:05SPEAKER_00: Hi, love.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Dear Divorce Diary, the podcast helping divorcees go beyond talk therapy to process your grief, find the healing you crave, and build back your confidence.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Don Wiggins, a therapist, coach, integrative healer, and divorcee.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Join me for a fresh approach to healing grief and building your confidence after divorce.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Okay, darlings, for today's episode, I need you to have two things to write with and one journal to write in.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: So bonus points if you can have a pen and a pencil or a pen and a crayon.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Best topmost bonus points for a pen and a crayon, you could sub in a colored pencil or a marker, but the idea is to have something maybe that feels like an adult would use it, and to have something that maybe feels like somebody younger would use it.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: Although I think adults should use crayons too.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Today we're going to do some non-dominant hand journaling.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: We did an episode like this way back in season one or season two, and it's about time for us to give it a go again.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Non-dominant hand journaling is an awesome tool to get at parts of us that don't always have a voice.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Most of us spend our days thinking from the same parts of ourselves, the part that solve problems, are responsible, get things done, overthinks, worries, plans, tries to hold everything together.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: And when we write with a non-dominant hand, it can interrupt that pattern.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: And that's mostly because it feels slower, clumsier, unfamiliar.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And so it becomes harder to stay in your usual mental loops.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: So many people find that when they do this type of journaling, they have thoughts, feelings, and truths that they didn't realize were there or they couldn't tap into or feel.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And they start to emerge on the page.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: So today's exercise is to help you heal or hear from a part of you that doesn't usually get a voice.
