Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Is there a direct connection between health and fitness and real estate?
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: Health and fitness and success in the real estate business.
- 0:07SPEAKER_01: I always thought that maybe there could be, it was kind of theory, but I know now, like this this is absolutely tried and true.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: This is a success principle.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: When you're on point with your fitness and your health, you will do better in your business.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: And there's many reasons why.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: We're going to talk about those reasons today with my coach, my fitness and nutrition coach, John Madsen from Athletic AF.
- 0:31SPEAKER_03: The massive podcast.
- 0:38SPEAKER_02: I love to buy houses.
- 0:39SPEAKER_02: I like to sell houses.
- 0:52SPEAKER_03: Here's your host, Dustin Brown.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: What is up, everybody?
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Welcome to episode 157 of the Massive Agent Podcast.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Merry Christmas.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: Merry Christmas, guys.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: This show is coming out on Christmas Eve, and a lot of you will hear it before Christmas.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: So hope you have an amazing rest of your week with the family, with friends, with loved ones, or by your damn self if that's how you prefer it.

- 1:23SPEAKER_01: So, welcome to the show, guys.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: My name is Dustin Brohm, your host.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: If you're new to the show and you don't know, I am a real estate agent myself in Salt Lake City, Utah, co-founder of the Industry Syndicate Podcast Network, and the creator and founder of the Massive Agent Daily social media app, as well as the Massive Agent Society Lead Gen Training Program.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: All right, today I wanted to do something a little different.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: We're about to start a new year, 2021, and there's something about turning that calendar over for a new year that makes us really make a bunch we make a bunch of plans.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Now, the last time we did this, you know, and some of you may be a little gun shy to make new year's resolutions this go around because we saw how that we saw how that ended last time.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Some of that's in a really, really good way, and things were a lot better than we thought, some not so much.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: So 2021 is just going to be crazy.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: Let's accept it.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: It's going to be a shit show and it's going to be amazing all at the same time.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: I choose to focus on what's going to be amazing, knowing that the shit show is just going to be happening.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: It already is happening, it will continue to happen, it's going to get worse, but I refuse to let that drag me down.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: I refuse that to let I refuse to let that drag my family down.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: I refuse to let that make relationships deteriorate and my health and fitness and wellness deteriorate and my business deteriorate.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Not happening.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: 2021 is going to be my best year ever, and I hope that you guys feel the same way.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Now, since we're about to start the new year, a lot of you are making New Year's resolutions that are health and fitness related, which is good.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: You should do those things.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: That's very, very good.
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Don't wait till you think you're having a heart attack before you get your shit together, like I did, and you heard me talk about a few episodes ago.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: But uh, one of the things that I did this year, okay, just within the last few months, is I hired a fitness coach, fitness and nutrition coach, because as I'm learning, I I've heard this for a while, but I didn't really know how to do it, right?
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Diet is 80% of it.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Like if you guys want a six-pack, if you want to be 9% body fat, if you want to drop 50 pounds, if you just want more natural energy, yes, exercise is key.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: But diet is 80% of it.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: It really is.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: It's amazing how, and this is what John and I will be talking about today, is how he's helped me do this, but I was doing so many things right.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: I was even tracking my calories, I was tracking my macros, and but I just I was getting too much fat, uh, too many carbs, not nearly enough protein.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: And so once I started to uh you know get those adjusted properly, the body fat melted off.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: It's incredible how fast that can happen if you have someone who really knows their shit telling you exactly what to do.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: And I found out I was actually exercising too much and not eating enough of the right things.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: So uh it's crazy.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Absolutely the opposite of what I thought.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: I thought I would have to starve myself and work out twice as hard or twice as often.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: No, no, I didn't.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: Uh, but it took a pro showing me the right way to do things.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: And that pro, John Madsen, the CEO of Athletic and Fit, is here with us today, and I'm I'm stoked for this conversation.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, this is not just about health and nutrition.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of a lot of business principles, a lot of success principles that we're going to talk about because John is an extremely successful business guy as well.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Not only does he I mean he's an ex-NFL player, he played for the Raiders and the Browns, I believe.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: And he was a wide receiver up at the University of Utah back under Urban Meyer, uh, which is super cool because the other day um John organized a Zoom call with Urban Meyer and his whole coaching group.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: So I got to be on a Zoom call with Urban Meyer, and I'll tell you what, like I've always been a fan of his seeing how he goes from school to school and turns them into a national championship football team within two years, everywhere he goes.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: Uh that's pretty incredible.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: But when I heard the the principles behind, like the philosophies behind how he does it, it is no surprise to me that he that he is winning at a level or he has won as a football coach at the level he has just because of his his founding principles.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: And he shared those with us and they man, they they stick with me.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: But he's one of John's mentors.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: He was John was one of his one of his uh not students, one of his players for years, and and they've stayed in touch, which is super cool.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: But John's you know, he's he's been winning at a very high level physically, winning at a very high level within business, and you know, family guy, he's got uh he has a daughter, he has a beautiful wife, they they're just doing things right.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: And so this conversation I think is gonna be super interesting for a lot of you.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Uh, even if you're just like, shut up, tell me how to sell more homes, cool it.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: Cool it just a little bit because we are doing that, but sometimes you've got to get your foundation right, you've got to build the confidence in yourself, you have to get some more energy behind what you do, and that is what you need, not some tactic.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: Yes, tactics are important, strategies are important, you know, being able to run a Facebook ad this worded this specific way, targeted to this group of people with this ad spend, you know, all that, yes, that's important, but there's so much more to it that can get you leads, but then are you ever gonna be able to convert them?
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Are they, you know, are you going to demand respect when they see you?
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Are you are you gonna have the energy enough to make them feel like you're worth working with and that you can actually, you know, serve their needs and that you're you're the one to go to bat for them?
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: There's so much more to this conversation of selling more homes than just a tactic.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: So for the love of God, have an open mind here.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: And in this conversation, we do talk about business, we do talk about fitness, and you're gonna learn some specific things about how I've been able to have the physical transformation that I've had over the last few months near the end of the show.
- 7:26SPEAKER_01: So we we get in we get into some specific recommendations for what you guys should be doing going into 2021 with your nutrition and with your diet and all that.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: Let's get into the interview with John Madsen, the CEO of Athletic and Fit.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Keep an open mind here, listen, and please make some changes.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Okay, guys, I cannot tell you how much it's helped me to have a ton more natural energy and more confidence in myself now that I am my diet's on point, my nutrition's on point, I'm healthier, I'm in the best physical shape of my life.
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: I've never looked the way I look in the mirror ever before.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: Even when I was, you know, a college football player for a semester um back when I was 19, I never was in, I was never this healthy.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: And in and uh it's crazy.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: And what that's done for my businesses is something that was just theory before, and now I know.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: What's up, guys?
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: I'm here with John Madsen, my coach, and uh the person responsible for a lot of the a lot of the big changes you've been hearing me talk about on the show over the last month or so.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: Um, he's he's somebody that I look up to, not just with health and fitness, but in business and in life.
- 8:38SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, he's we knew each other a little bit after high school.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: I weren't you in the real estate industry or like title industry, like in Salt Lake before you guys moved?
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: You know, I had a I had a buddy who owns a title company.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: And so with that, it was like I I was still in the fitness industry with my gyms.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: We can get into that, but I I had a position and I was like, oh, this can be like a little part-time thing.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: So I dabbled in that a little bit just because they recruited me over because I have a huge network in Utah, man.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: So we probably did cross paths a little bit.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: I we had lunch at Porcupine once with uh uh who was it?
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: I forget his name, Jed and Jed, yes, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, crazy, small world.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: But dude, welcome to the Massive Agent Podcast.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: I'm excited to uh just to talk about everything that's been going on with me and then talk about some business parallels.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the show.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: Thank you for having me.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Super excited to be here, brother.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: So truly honored, super excited to get into this conversation.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: For sure, for sure.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: So you're somebody that um, you know, before we really like knew each other, and before I joined your your program, um, I was like, man, this guy, he's an ex NFL player.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: He, you know, he was a receiver up at the U.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: He's got a six pack on his Facebook feed, like, you know, what the hell?
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: I'm working out super, super, super hard.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: I'm in this puddle of sweat.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: I don't have that.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: What's going on?
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: And um, this just this is why social media is so powerful.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: You posted something, and to you it was probably just another post, but you said something specific that just got me.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: It's like uh you said that um you don't need to be lying in a puddle of sweat to have a six-pack.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: Most of you are probably working out weight too hard and a lot more than I ever do.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: So something along those lines.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, holy shit, like I believe that.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna I'm gonna reach out and see what you can do for me.
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: And it's changed everything, like within just uh, you know, just about three months now.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Um, and I have so much energy, I lost a lot of body fat, lost a lot of weight, which is weird.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: I'm down to like 157, which I haven't been since like right out of high school.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: It's very weird.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: Um, and and it's really helped my business too.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Like the when you when you commit to something and you see progress in that and you build, you know, you boost your confidence, guess what?
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: Business gets better.
- 10:56SPEAKER_01: And I'm more it's crazy.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: So um why don't you why don't you take a few minutes?
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, how did you get to where you're at now?
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: You you haven't always been a fitness and and nutrition coach.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Um you were you played in the NFL, you've got your Raiders jersey behind you there.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: You know, um, how did you get to this point?
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Like what made you want to help others um in business and fitness?
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man, it's been a it's been a long road, man.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, when I was done playing in the NFL, you know, I was three years in.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: I had uh I had a last little stint in Cleveland with the Browns and I got cut, man.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: I was 27 years old.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: From that point, I was going from workout to workout.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: I uh, you know, was kind of put on that jet set train where I remember having workouts in Buffalo and I was flying out to Baltimore and it seemed like everything was on the East Coast, and I was, you know, getting put on these red eye flights, and then I have a tryout in the morning.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: And at 27, I just literally was like, you know what?
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: I I might be able to get a few more years.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: I might land at a spot that that you know utilizes my talent a little bit more, and maybe I last for five or 10 more years, right?
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: But I mentally kind of checked out and knowing that um my phone didn't ring for a little bit, I decided I was at a 24-hour fitness and I was on, I was just warming up and I saw this trainer train these two high school football players, and I was watching them take them through a bunch of nonsense, a bunch of stuff that I was like, dude, these poor kids are paying this trainer, and he probably had good intentions.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: I didn't know this guy, but I was like, these poor kids are paying this guy to help them and they're not getting anything that they need.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Like, I know what they need.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: And I literally didn't even work out that day.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: I went back to my car, wrote up a business plan, was like, I was in Arizona at the time in uh Chandler, and uh I had just bought a house, probably spent nine months there at the most, and was like, I'm moving back to Salt Lake City, I'm opening up a gym, it's gonna be a performance center for high school athletes.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm gonna do.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: And so I literally that happened really quick.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: I couldn't sleep for the next three nights.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: I was like looking up business plans and had this whole idea that I was gonna build this training center for high school athletes.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I do what I always did.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: I never played high school football.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: I didn't play one down of high school football.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: And I ended up scoring a couple touchdowns in the National Football League.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: So part of my part of my deal is like, look, man, nobody, you know, no, somebody might not invite you to the party.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: You got to invite yourself, right?
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: And so I went and and I did the same thing at the University of Utah.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: I didn't have a scholarship.
- 13:29SPEAKER_00: I went up there, I had a highlight film and said, hey, you know, can I walk on?
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: So that started that that kind of mentality has taken me and took me all the way into my first business where I was like, look, man, I don't know how to run a business, but I do have this idea and I do know what these kids need.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna open up shop.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: And I opened up a uh training center back in 2010.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Um, I didn't have a single client.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: I didn't have a grand opening.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: I literally just thought that if I built this place and dumped, you know, 100K of my NFL money into it, that I'd have a line of people come through the door.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: And that didn't happen, man.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: So I had to learn about business.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: But in the meantime, I did get enough uh kids to go in there and we started just pumping out, pumping out scholarship after scholarship.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: And so I ran with that for literally probably the first seven years.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: If we're gonna talk about the gym industry, fitness industry, it was largely for high school athletes and college athletes.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: And in doing so, I had professional athletes, world, you know, World Series champions, NFL players, combine guys.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: So I kind of got to do that part of fitness for a long time.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: I also almost shut down that first place after 16 months because I had no idea, you know, what a business actually looked like.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: So I went from a big spot to a tiny warehouse to a little bit mediocre warehouse to another big spot and ultimately um found myself around the time my daughter was born, two and a half years old, thinking, you know, I'm putting in so many hours in this gym.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: I'm getting up at five in the morning, I'm going to bed at 10 at night.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Financially, it's, you know, I have an okay life.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: I have okay months, but it's not really what I wanted to do.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: And I knew that I had this lifestyle that I really wanted to have with my wife and my daughter who wasn't born yet.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: I was like, I'm not gonna be the guy who's never around.
- 15:19SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna have kids and I'm gonna coach them.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: And I literally have to find out where my where my lane is in this fitness industry, or I'm gonna get out of the fitness industry altogether.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: So from that point, probably two years ago, I started building this online program and that you're taking a part of.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: And it didn't take off right off the bat.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: I I had to learn a lot of stuff with online marketing and sales and all the all the stuff, man, a lot of technology.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: But over the past 18 months, probably mostly a year, this program has wildly taken off.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: And uh I've taken 10 years of business, you know, beatings to get to this point, like we all do, right?
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Like there's there's gotta be a time where you flex that persistence muscle and you learn along the way, and then everything kind of lines up for you to really, you know, for me to to see this vision through.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: And, you know, as 2021 approaches, you know, I don't even feel like I'm in the game yet, man.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: I have great big goals financially, business-wise, and and with fitness.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: So I'm just excited uh to have the opportunity to wake up each day and take another swing.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Why do you think that your that athletic AF has really taken off?
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Like, is it is it a combination of you just have your your sales funnels dialed in and your your social media content, or you know, is it you're you're just like the results speak for themselves and you get a lot of referral business, um, or is it both?
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'll tell you exactly what it is, man.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: It's all mindset, bro.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: 95% of it.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Like I, and this sounds weird, and we can go down this rabbit hole.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: This is probably my favorite thing to talk about in the world because even fitness, 95% is mindset, 5% tactic strategy, depending on the person.
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: You needed a different strategy, and we can talk about that um a little bit.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: There was little fine tweaks that we could bring some understanding.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: As far as my business, I remember seeing an ad probably five years ago.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: And this ad was like uh for a program that would teach you how to run a webinar, get a lead, turn that lead into a customer.
- 17:19SPEAKER_00: And I it was like 12, 12 grand or something.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: And I like, I didn't have 12 grand at the time to just spend on it, but I pulled out a credit card and uh they kind of hard sell me on the phone.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: I was like, okay, this is it.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: And then I got so excited, man.
- 17:33SPEAKER_00: But I had to tell my wife, right?
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: I was like, I'm gonna ask for per I'm gonna ask for forgiveness, not permission.
- 17:40SPEAKER_00: And so I gave the dude my credit card, got the program, started jamming out about Facebook ads and how to get leads and stuff.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: And I remember taking my wife out to dinner and ordering a couple of drinks, and was like trying to figure out a way in my mind to tell her like how I just spent 12 grand and uh on this program that was gonna make us millionaires, right?
- 17:59SPEAKER_00: And um, so I ordered drinks, and your wife knows when you're acting kind of weird, it's like she was talking, she was saying something, but I was not really listening.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: I was just it was way too well.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, dude.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: I was just trying, she's like, You're acting weird.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: What is it?
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: I was like, oh, babe, like there's this thing online, and like I'm gonna learn how to you know get clients online and I pay 12 grand, blah, blah, blah.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: She just kind of rolls her eyes and says, Okay, like, don't tell me about it.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: Show me, right?
- 18:22SPEAKER_00: Show me what you're gonna do.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: And ironically, the reason I tell you that is because I got into the program and I did nothing with it.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: I literally learned Facebook ads and then had a bunch of stories about why I couldn't sell fitness for this price and that price, and just made up stories, man.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: That's what we do as humans, right?
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: I had all these limiting beliefs that was like blocking my ability to see exactly what I needed to see.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: And so I did nothing with that program, although the seed was planted in my mind.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: It took me down a journey learning about Facebook ads and you know, different strategies, is that I I ultimately hired um another coach for the gym that really took my understanding from a lead generation standpoint to another level.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: And then I had probably two other coaches.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: So I literally invested probably 100, 150 grand in a five-year period on coaches trying to teach me how to do this thing that I wanted to create.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: Ironically, they were all telling me kind of the same stuff.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: And ultimately, I'm running kind of the same strategy, although my a little bit with my own spin on it from the very first program that I bought from 12 grand.
- 19:32SPEAKER_00: I had to finally write a check to one of my mentors.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: Literally, um, he's a mindset coach.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: And I said, it was 40 grand.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: I said, dude, I'm so tired of being sick and tired of not like breaking free.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: I thought my mindset was on point.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: Like I've been in the NFL, like I've scored some touchdowns, I've done all this shit, but ultimately I'm not getting the result I want.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: So here's 40 grand to just go into my brain and rewire it.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: And so he did, dude.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: He did.
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: He literally went inside of me and started plucking out these limiting beliefs and decisions.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: And as soon as they were gone, I went back almost to the first strategy that I ever was thinking about in the beginning with a new mindset and new type of authenticity in the way that I spoke, uh, uh, a lack of care for what the outside world thought.
- 20:20SPEAKER_00: Criticize me, don't criticize me, talk crap on my Facebook ads, don't like literally don't care.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: And as soon as I zeroed in on that, brother, I literally started just nailing it, dude.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: And it was like before, I didn't think that I could sell a fitness program for$2,000.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: Right now, like the I I charge higher prices than anybody probably in the fitness industry, and they're higher than when you joined.
- 20:44SPEAKER_00: And so um, as that happens, I'm like, I'm so authentic and congruent, and I've learned all this stuff.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: It's like it's a no-brainer for me.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: And now, now, dude, with those limiting beliefs gone, it's like that's what that's what it took.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: So to answer a question, it was all mindset for me.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: The tactics was were already built in, but I needed to shift my whole perception in order to see what was available to me.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: And now, you know, it's like all foot, you know, instead of one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake, it's it's I have one foot down on the gas and we're crushing.
- 21:15SPEAKER_00: It had nothing to do with um, you know, some people's like, oh, this must have been great business for you with the COVID thing.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: I'm like, actually, no, because my type of fitness is not doing, you know, burpees in your living room.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: I actually hate that.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: I need you to go to the gym ultimately.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: If you don't, we have a plan for you.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: But COVID was not a help or a hurt for me.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: A lot of the people in the industry got, you know, just got murdered by it.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: For me, I was just like, my perspective was so different, my mindset was so on point, and my focus was there.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: I literally just bulldozed right through it.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: There's so many directions that we could take this, but uh, I mean, you've just you've really spoken to the power of of coaching and the power of getting somebody who is at a place you want.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: to be has done something that you want to do or you know something along those lines and it they just compress time for you.
- 22:09SPEAKER_01: Um and I feel like when when I joined your program that's what that's what you've done.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: Like that's what you and and Chris and and your program have done with me because I was doing pretty like I was I thought I was doing everything right but the the gains were so slow and I I just felt like I'm slightly off.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: And when we first had a Zoom call and you laid out your program and you're like you're like yeah you you're doing pretty much everything right we just need to make a little adjustment like a slight adjustment and it changes everything.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: And I just trusted you.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: So I'm like I've seen the results I've seen you know other people that have gone through your program and I'm like cool um you know I had a little sticker shock you know I'm like I'm like wow I didn't think it'd be that much but goddamn that's that's worth it and it sure as hell has been but uh I now like I even though I am a coach I coach others I I have a team like I I'm trying to now look for as many other coaches as I can get to help me go where I want to go now and you kind of help me with that like because I see a slight adjustment and a little refocusing or rejiggering like on what I was eating not even like my exercise was fine like I that hasn't really changed.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Like you just helped me figure out change my diet in very specific ways and it changed everything.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: Body fat melted off energy goes through the roof and so like now I'm I'm looking for other coaches.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: I'm like okay I need a business coach I need this I need that and and so that your your answer surprised me at first because I was expecting to be like well you know it was a combination of the Facebook ads and and all that that changed the business but yeah your mindset and your coach.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: So um I'll tell you dude I'll tell you this man I pay for so much coaching dude like this is the thing like if if you're listening and you're just like dude how can I break free I'm like my my answer is so 100% like the coaching is so important.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: Not yeah fitness we can talk about fitness coaching too I have a fitness coach dude like I I spent 10 years like into this into this arena but there's always something that I can learn too.
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: And uh so even in fitness it's like it's like the bumpers if you go bowling and you're a kid and you you know you're not going to throw gutters.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: It's like those coaches are those guardrails.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: And it's like if you go off a little bit it just like it it nudges you back to to you know stay in the lane.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: And so yes accountability also there's might be just a little piece of gold that might be super small that literally changes the whole trajectory.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: And uh you know going into 2021 I'm like I'm still gobbling up coaching man.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: Like I had a I had a post on Facebook the other day or or Instagram I was like I re-upped for my mindset coach um it was 30K for the next level program.
- 24:59SPEAKER_00: Like dude I don't care like you you helped me so much I would have paid whatever to just like rip those limiting beliefs out of me.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: So there was that and then I was like dude I got to take my business from from seven figures to eight like literally how am I going to do that?
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: I need somebody who's been in this industry to help me set up structure.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: How am I going to set up the sales teams?
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: What are the commissions going to be how am I going to do this?
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: Like what are the positions, dude?
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: Because this is like six to seven was like that was my territory seven to eight, I don't know right like I literally don't know.
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: And so you know that coach was 25K and I was like okay cool this is going to be my coach.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: And then I got this um I've been wanting to get into the real estate game and you know I'm gonna talk to you more about this but there was this mastermind with these influencers I was like dude like yeah yeah and I was like dude I am I'm going to this little event and uh I don't know anything about real estate and I'm probably the poorest guy in this room right now.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: However, if I'm gonna learn I'm gonna learn from some ballers.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: And so you know it was another 30K.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: So with literally a 30 day period I was like 30K 30K 25K and my wife's the same and it's like here's the thing all those people all those checks that I wrote it's gonna hit their Chase Bank or Wells Fargo or or wherever right but the ROI that I'm gonna get is going to be 10x what they got.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: And so like I firmly believe that dude I firmly believe it and I believe in such an abundant mindset.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: Magic happens when I write a check to somebody for myself first thing is this my self-identity goes from here to here because I'm telling myself with my hard earned money and effort and energy that I'm worth it.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: I'm putting that I'm putting that into me right and I tell people all the time whether it's fitness or business you will never outperform your self-identity ever.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: And so if you want to raise your self-identity put some of your money into yourself.
- 26:52SPEAKER_00: Tell yourself that you're worth it.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: It does magic for your unconscious that raises and then I'm always super surprised with this abundant way of thinking that I I spend money and I'm like even me in the last 30 days was like dude I'm like I'm just write and check write and check write and check and then how much more business flowed to me because it's like this money is like a is like a river.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: I'm letting it go out and it's just flowing back at rapid speed.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: And for me I'm like dude like I'm willing to play that game right like yes I will diversify in my investments and you know be smart financially.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: However I'm going all in on one thing and one thing and like the most important thing and that's myself with whether that's fitness or business or knowledge or mindset like that's what's important to me man.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: And uh you know I preach that because I believe it because I've seen that take me from a place where I was scarce and me and my wife didn't have the life that we wanted to a place where there's just this massive ascension.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: The scarcity mindset is so abundant well that's weird to say scarcity that it's so it's yeah it's so common.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: And I mean I know because for the vast majority of my real estate career I you know I was like well I don't know if I can spend a hundred dollars a month on that one thing even though it would dramatically help I don't know because that I could you know I don't know if I can spend that money.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: And once it's so weird once you finally uh and it it takes practice and it and it takes some time but once you wrap your head around the fact that like you can always make more money and some things when that you spend money on help you make infinitely more and and like you said it just becomes this this thing where you're like like keep giving me coaches like let's keep going because it keeps coming back.
- 28:40SPEAKER_01: It just takes a minute to get there.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: And so many agents are so unwilling to do that while at the same time they piss money away if they think they found the shortcut some program some you know new lead source some bullshit and they're like oh that's the that's the secret that's the shortcut that's what's going to get me so here take all my money and then other things that are like actually in line with what their strengths and weaknesses are and their business model and how they want to do business they won't invest a hundred bucks a month 300 bucks a month a thousand uh it's it's just bizarre and real estate agents we're weird we're broken mentally first of all we're very weird people um but I think that's also a human thing uh I don't I don't know what it is um let's dive a little deeper on that and then I want to talk about this connection between fitness health and business which um I'm just starting to like actually understand personally but um any any last thoughts on what I just mentioned?
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah man this is a lot of the work that I did with uh with a mindset coach because I thought that I had a pretty you know I thought that I you know money wasn't an issue as far as my mindset was concerned but it was because every single person that we talk to or I'm gonna talk to today or or you know that's listening on this podcast, their thoughts are going to be dominated by abundance or scarcity.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: And it's gonna be largely determined by their belief systems about money.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Where do those belief systems come from?
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: Well it's not the ones that we're consciously thinking about you can want money as much as you want.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: However your relationship with money unconsciously is going to determine whether you're a magnet to it or whether you repel it.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: And so people want more they're like I got to pay my bills I got to make more money.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: And so the precise thing that they want they they also have this negative connotation or this deep seated unconscious belief that it's evil or greedy or this or that.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: And maybe if it's not even those things in their speech patterns, in their language patterns, I know instantly that they're they're speaking from scarcity or abundance.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: I know I know 100% how a person is running their business whether it's an abundant win-win situation or it's a it's a situation dominated by scarcity.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: And so you know part of my training over the past two years is understanding you know language patterns, my own, but also also it feels like I'm you know walking around in the matrix, I can have a conversation and I'm like a person speaks and I know instantly what their problem is.
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: And so it's those precise people that are going to go chase the quick fix.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: They're gonna go chase it and they're gonna pay for it.
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: And they're over a decade they'll keep paying for the they'll they'll always find money to pay for the thing that doesn't work and they'll repeat that process and repeat that process instead of just paying more money for the right thing, you know, at the right time that is going to make a difference.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: But it's not probably even the thing it's more their mindset thinking that it's a tactic or strategy that's going to save them.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: However, their mindset is so fixated on scarcity it's impossible for them to outperform that self-image which has these deep rooted belief systems about money.
- 31:48SPEAKER_00: And it's it's it's mind-boggling to me that they can't understand that it's not the tactic or strategy, but it's this the root of it.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: And it could be from the time they're zero to seven years old, man.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: That's like when we don't have that mechanism that where we can filter things out of our unconscious like we're sponges from that's the imprint age zero to seven everything that you hear or see or you know your parents talk about or the TV is talking about is programmed deep into you.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: So it could possibly be you know how you grew up in those in those um years, those early years.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: And it could also be not that it could be you know in your teenage years or 20s or 30s and decisions that you made or certain instances that drove that belief system that is faulty into your unconscious that you're not consciously aware of.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: And so you want this thing consciously but unconsciously you have all these beliefs that are locking you up and you literally cannot see the solutions to your problems when it comes to finances.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: This is how I was man like I I literally thought that I'm like I'd read the books I'd read all the books man and I'd be like I I don't have a problem with money you know I you know I played in the NFL I made a lot of money when I was you know 22 23 24 years old.
- 33:05SPEAKER_00: However, why do I keep sabotaging myself?
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: Why can I not break free?
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: And it had everything to do with the deep mindset largely uh you know encompassing this thing called money and more so this abundant way of thinking or scarce way of thinking right and so if you're a real estate agent or you're in the game and you're like you're in it because you want freedom and time and a lot more money, yet the way you speak when you talk about money or your unconscious things that you're not even aware of is is locking you up, you can buy all the courses you want and it's not going to make a damn bit of difference.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: And uh this is something that I didn't understand about myself until looking backwards.
- 33:46SPEAKER_01: When you have that scarcity mindset when you're not in a good financial position you think that it's just like it's in your head you think that no one else can tell everyone can tell like it leaks out.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: It leaks out all over your clients and they can tell when in certain situations if you're guiding them towards a fast sale or something that maybe not be in their best interest because it means a faster commission check they can tell that shit and and it when you get to a you know and that leads to you know maybe you you piss a client off or you screw them over financially or something that really could ruin your career.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: But at a minimum it's just like they can feel that you're you're mostly there for them but you're also kind of not once you can get to the place where you're okay financially or you you're um you just switch your mindset all of a sudden you really do put your client first a hundred percent of the time not 95% of the time and they can tell like when you when you recommend that they do something that means you don't get paid but it's better for them trust they get trust they're gonna refer you uh your business gets better and plus you build confidence you're like I just did something that is like I just really legitimately put their interest first and I'm not even worried about myself and all of a sudden your business starts to improve you get more clients coming in you get more referrals and it starts to snowball in a positive direction.
- 35:15SPEAKER_01: And uh for so much of my career I was the former I was you know I didn't think that it was leaking out and and could be um seen or felt by my clients but sometimes I'm like oh no like you can't walk away from this property it's it's just a faulty roof let's just replace it like you can like I need to I need a commission check I can't wait another month uh they can tell and and it makes you feel shitty about yourself.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: So um it real quick I want to just interject dude like it's it's not even uh if you think about this this like your conscious your brain right your mind right your conscious self right and so consciously you know you're thinking one thing think about your body as like the unconscious right and so in the feeling that they can feel it what what you probably don't understand too is it comes out in your tonality.
- 36:08SPEAKER_00: It comes up because people are it's not even about what you say and that's the that's the whole issue is like you could say all the right things but unconsciously you had this issue.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: And so it comes out in your tonality it comes out in the micro behaviors the micro movements of your eyes literally humans pick up on that stuff right and so when you are coming from true authentic abundance and you've practiced that skill that's how you start making more that's how you start making more sales.
- 36:37SPEAKER_00: That's when everything starts to click for you because in the in the other way like you were saying yeah you could you know people can feel it but they also can hear it.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: It's also in that all the stuff that you don't think that you're doing that you are doing that that connection is being repelled and you struggle more.
- 36:55SPEAKER_00: It's so fascinating how powerful humans are and how how much people really can see hear and feel the real motives despite what you say.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: It's a great point.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah the body language like I I think I'm a fairly perceptive person and I I more sometimes like my friends or my family they'll be like what are you talking about?
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: I was like no didn't you see that like did you see the look on that guy's face and how he said it and I'm like there's something not right about that or it's kind of an extreme example but like I pick up on body language so much and it's everything and it's that's unconscious stuff like you're saying that it's unconsciously coming out um it's not just about the words you say great point.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: I want to make sure we um we we really put some meat on the bone here with with fitness nutrition and all that and its connection to business um because like I I've always been told you know what once you're when you're in shape when your diet's on point and you're just really healthy your business improves and I that was theory for me.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: I was like cool that sounds that sounds right I can see how that makes sense.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: Well now after going through your program and I'm not even done I have another month um lost a bunch of fat feeling great and for the like literally the best shape of my life because my my diet is actually on point.
- 38:17SPEAKER_01: It's not just from 19 year old metabolism you know having a six pack because I could eat five Big Macs and burn it that's not healthy.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: Well I am now it's crazy.
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: And the confidence I've built in business and everything makes me more productive every day helps me tackle things that I wanted to that I would have avoided six months ago what has your experience been, not just with yourself but with others of how once they really start to dial in their health and nutrition and fitness, how has that helped their business and why does that happen?
- 38:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man, this is interesting to me and this was the whole premise of me, you know, my my whole marketing message out there is like the Athletic AF CEO project.
- 38:58SPEAKER_00: You know, you don't have to be a CEO but you better own your life.
- 39:01SPEAKER_00: And so in a sense we are all CEOs and the price point of the program really lends itself to people who are drivers and high performers right and so the concept for me has always been the ability to tie this this idea that how you do one thing is how you do everything.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: I believe that your body is a microcosm of every single thing else in your entire life right every single thing else.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: However we can point to extremes we all know the the the rich wealthy guy who's a complete fat ass.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: And so it's like okay well you know he didn't need his fitness to get to where he is and maybe he has a private jet or whatever.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: And then we also know the guy who's in Gold's gym or Planet Fitness and you know they're carrying a jug of water around and they have 10 a bag full of 10 supplements and they're spending two and a half hours at the gym talking about you know getting their delt pump on or their biceps and it's like okay dude like you can be jacked in tan and you know whatever whatever else you want to do but you're literally spending two and a half hours a day at the gym for seven days a week and you follow the guy out to the to the car in his little tank top and he's driving a 10 year old Honda right so like we have these examples on both extremes like we can we can see dudes who are ultra old ultra ultra ultra fit or you know bodybuilder type whatever and not have any money.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: And then we also can point to the fact that there are very rich wealthy people who are not healthy right so if we take those extremes out my my message to people is like look if you've neglected your health a little bit or you've never been really elite in your fitness and done it in a way where it's not going to take two days.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: It's not going to take you spending two and a half hours a day at the gym that that takes away from your business and takes away from your family.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: Literally give me three to four days a week in in the gym, five if you love it like I do for 60 minutes a day.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: And then I'm gonna teach you how to incorporate you know the nutritional piece there.
- 41:03SPEAKER_00: And if we do that with this whole idea and understanding that we can take our bodies to levels and limits that we've never even seen before in ourselves it's gonna raise that self-image.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: It's gonna raise that confidence up and I don't care if you're making a million dollars or 10 million or 50 million, if you do it the way that I show you how to do it, if you if you have a$50 million business, I guarantee you it goes to 100, you will get better.
- 41:29SPEAKER_00: There's zero chance that it gets worse.
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: And so regardless of where a person's at, if you do this the right way, the way that I like to teach it and the way that I believe in it, it's only going to get better.
- 41:40SPEAKER_00: And think about it if you're crushing sales or you can or you're just really good at what you do, a person is judging you.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: It takes four seconds it takes milliseconds it's actually not the the handshake and it's not the first word out of your mouth.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: It's you're watching dude walk in from a from you know wherever he walks in and you make those judgments instantly right if a guy is like sloppy I'm thinking subconsciously that it's like ah like there's weakness there right and he could be he could he could very well have a private jet right that's not the point.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: The point is is that he could do better or she could do better.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: So like my my whole point is like now more than ever you guys have seen people get exposed in their fitness with this pandemic or or whatever's going on nobody can argue that the people who are hurt the most by it most of the time 99.9% of the time are people who have really bad health issues and most of these things are done to themselves right it's the it's the obesity it's the it's the stuff that they have neglected that exposes them from a fitness standpoint that like look health is the real wealth.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: And so my message to the world is I want badasses in fitness.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: I want people to be business savages.
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: I want you know if you're gonna buy custom tailored suits and you're gonna go to the suit store, I want you to wear the shit out of that, right?
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: I want this appearance and image to yourself so that you can have that self-respect and that confidence and that certainty.
- 43:11SPEAKER_00: Not that we want to win bodybuilding shows, but if you go out into the world like that and and you really believe in this idea that your body is a microcosm of your entire life, your relationships get better, your business gets better, your fitness and health gets better regardless of where you start, there's only one way to go.
- 43:29SPEAKER_00: Now if you do fitness another way and you start doing two a days and you start you know taking away from the hours that it's going to take to do your business right and it's not enhancing the business then yeah you could actually go down the fitness road a different way and your bottom line goes down.
- 43:45SPEAKER_00: That's just not the way I I teach it or like to teach it because I want to win in business I want to win in my relationship and I want to win in fitness.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: One of the things that really surprised me the most is you and Chris when you um when you were getting my program ready I was in the middle of 75 Hard, so I was working out twice a day every day.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: And uh you actually Chris was like, okay, we need you to work out less.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: Like, you need to work out less.
- 44:13SPEAKER_01: I'm like, well, okay, after 75 hard.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: And he's like, no, no, you don't need to be running.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: You don't need to be doing like two full-on, crazy workouts, like just go on a walk.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: And I was like, okay.
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: And so that made it a little easier.
- 44:23SPEAKER_01: And then once 75 hard ended, all of a sudden it's down to like, you know, five workouts a week, once per day, and not for three hours per day.
- 44:32SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, wow, like I feel like I'm slacking, but the results are just like are crazy.
- 44:38SPEAKER_01: And so yeah, I I bought more time back because I thought, like so many people do, the more you exercise, the better it is.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: I'm learning that that's not necessarily the case at all.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: And so now I freed up a little time, a little less time at the gym.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: Another, you know, uh Wednesday is like my light day where I just do a walk and so I can work more that day.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: And then Saturday and Sunday are free.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: And, you know, like amazing.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: So there's a lot of misconceptions out there.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: And uh it's it's been nice to have someone who knows what the hell they're talking about kind of you know, focus me.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: So what tips can you give people that are like, all right, I just need to do something?
- 45:20SPEAKER_01: Like, what are some general fitness tips that you can give to people for fitness and nutrition that uh anyone anywhere can start doing right now?
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man, I I believe in uh what I call minimum effective dose.
- 45:34SPEAKER_00: Like at the root of my belief in fitness is like, how can I drive adaptation with a minimum amount of work?
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: Not that I'm like want to cut corners or do shortcuts.
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: It's just if we want to win in all facets of our life, I would argue that, you know, if you're gonna do a second workout, um, you know, the second one should be 30 minutes of breathing, right?
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: Like getting breath work in that's gonna completely alter the way that um your body handles stress.
- 45:59SPEAKER_00: And so um, you know, some people, you know, some people, it's like, look, they need to do something hard.
- 46:05SPEAKER_00: They do.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: And so I love Andy Frasilla and I love, you know, his idea of 75 hard.
- 46:10SPEAKER_00: And it really speaks to a certain individual, the drivers and the people like, bro, like I get it, dude.
- 46:15SPEAKER_00: But like I've been through two of days, I've got my ass kicked in business before, right?
- 46:19SPEAKER_00: So it's like, I don't really need to prove to myself how hard I can be.
- 46:23SPEAKER_00: I literally want to get the result where people, where I'm like, I look in the mirror, I have a six-pack, I can take my shirt off, and people are like, dude, what do you do?
- 46:29SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, I work out four times a week and you know, that's it.
- 46:32SPEAKER_00: Like that's ice cream.
- 46:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, dude, that's more appealing to me.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: And and so for me, like if someone wants to prove to themselves how tough they are, like by all means.
- 46:41SPEAKER_00: However, if you're just like, dude, 2021 is around the corner, I need to get my fitness on.
- 46:46SPEAKER_00: Like, I agree with you, John.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: Like everything would be enhanced if I could feel better and I could and I performed better, right?
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: And let's just say for you know, one of the one of the things and one of my points that I want to get across too is when you've changed your physiology and your energy changes, your perception changes.
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: So it puts yourself in a different mind frame to tackle different problems in your business too.
- 47:09SPEAKER_00: So that's a whole other, you know, reason why I like the physiological shift from fitness from actual exercise.
- 47:16SPEAKER_00: But if you're sitting here and you're like, what can I do?
- 47:19SPEAKER_00: My ideal client is a client that has already been putting in effort.
- 47:24SPEAKER_00: So if you're like getting into my brain, I'm I'm I'm imagining you guys listening to your podcast.
- 47:29SPEAKER_00: They're they want to win or they wouldn't be listening.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: So I'm not imagining guys sitting on the couch eating Pop Tarts going, like, what do I do?
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: You know, because that that's an easy question.
- 47:39SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna speak to the person who's like, Look, man, I'm already putting in effort.
- 47:43SPEAKER_00: I'm going to the gym three or four times a week, maybe even more like you.
- 47:46SPEAKER_00: I just still see this image and I'm stuck.
- 47:48SPEAKER_00: What should I do?
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: See, that question should be answered with, you know, food in mind, right?
- 47:54SPEAKER_00: If we're gonna talk about nutrition, I would tell you that one of the things that people ask me all the time is they want to know what to eat, right?
- 48:03SPEAKER_00: It's like, John, what do I eat, man?
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: And so, like level zero awareness would be like the guy sitting on the couch eating Pop Tarts who just doesn't care, right?
- 48:12SPEAKER_00: Like going from that to eating single ingredient foods is gonna make all the difference in the world.
- 48:18SPEAKER_00: Lose weight, more energy, you know, uh glucose levels um optimized, all the stuff, right?
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: All the stuff for health and wellness is gonna be optimized by just simply answering the question like, don't eat that stuff, eat eat whole foods, right?
- 48:33SPEAKER_00: And so you're a guy, though, that wanted to optimize your aesthetic and your performance.
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: So answering that question to you was gonna keep you frustrated because you were gonna keep going to the gym a lot, doing two a days, doing 75 hard, eating clean, right?
- 48:50SPEAKER_00: And still being like, how does John have a six pack and why is he eating Pop Tarts?
- 48:53SPEAKER_00: And like that makes no sense to me, right?
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: Because here's where most of my clients come in, just the doorway that we're talking about.
- 49:01SPEAKER_00: You guys need to know that it's not just about what to eat.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 49:04SPEAKER_00: So that's actually like that's one B.
- 49:07SPEAKER_00: One A would be the quantity of food.
- 49:09SPEAKER_00: One A is actually like, how much should I be eating?
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: And then I got to know, am I eating proteins, carbohydrates, or fats?
- 49:17SPEAKER_00: And how much exactly of those should I be eating to optimize my body composition and my performance?
- 49:22SPEAKER_00: One B, very, very important, is still like where should those foods come from?
- 49:27SPEAKER_00: 90% of those foods should be single ingredient, whole foods, fruits and vegetables, lean sources of protein, all the stuff that you already know.
- 49:35SPEAKER_00: However, most people who struggle with their fitness and my clientele, they tell me the same story.
- 49:40SPEAKER_00: I've sat on a million, you know, not a million, but thousands of calls where they're like, dude, John, I'm stuck, man.
- 49:46SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm, you know, right around 16 to 20% body fat.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: And, you know, I work out four or five times a week.
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: I do cardio on top of that.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: I eat clean.
- 49:55SPEAKER_00: My wife cooks for me.
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: It's all whole food.
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: I'm like, cool, man.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: Like I already know their problem.
- 50:00SPEAKER_00: They're not paying attention to the details.
- 50:02SPEAKER_00: Just like business, there's details that are they're missing that's just like two millimillimeters off.
- 50:07SPEAKER_00: And if I change that dial for them, everything changes.
- 50:10SPEAKER_00: So if you're wondering what you should do, you should get um, I would say, I would say in order, you should get seven hours of sleep a night.
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: If you want like a nootropic or, you know, you want your brain to be fire, stop getting five hours of sleep and get seven.
- 50:24SPEAKER_00: Recover, right?
- 50:25SPEAKER_00: Number two, you should get your hydration on.
- 50:28SPEAKER_00: You shouldn't go through the day without being hydrated.
- 50:30SPEAKER_00: If you, you know, whatever your weight is, divide it by two, get that many ounces of water a day.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: Number three, I'd say resistance train, right?
- 50:38SPEAKER_00: Like I believe in resistance training.
- 50:40SPEAKER_00: I believe in um the adaptation that the signal from your brain to your muscle cells to be like, whoa, you know, John's put me through this workout.
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: That doesn't mean I gotta lay in a puddle of sweat, but you know, it's an intelligently planned workout optimized for strength, power, and a little bit of conditioning.
- 50:57SPEAKER_00: You do that three to four times a week.
- 50:59SPEAKER_00: Number four, the food, I would actually say for the food and the training flipped for most people.
- 51:05SPEAKER_00: The food would go first, knowing the quantity of how much to eat, and then also one beat, like it is important, you know, the food sources.
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: We don't want to just eat like an idiot to hit calories, proteins, carbs, and fats because we there's this whole other idea of micronutrients and gut health and hormones that like, you know, eat like an adult.
- 51:24SPEAKER_00: Don't eat a bunch of you know garbage.
- 51:26SPEAKER_00: And then that training that I just talked about would be the other thing, man.
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: And so um it's it's simple stuff.
- 51:34SPEAKER_00: I do, you know, abide by the rule, minimum effective dose.
- 51:38SPEAKER_00: However, you gotta know that what dials to turn up and down at the right times.
- 51:43SPEAKER_00: And if you're really interested in looking like you, you know, your before and after pictures are incredible.
- 51:48SPEAKER_00: Like you're walking around with, you know, six pack.
- 51:51SPEAKER_00: Most people never get to that point because they never fully understand what that's gonna take.
- 51:57SPEAKER_00: And it's not for lack of effort in your like from your standpoint, it was more lack of understanding and then execution.
- 52:05SPEAKER_00: Totally.
- 52:06SPEAKER_00: There are people though out there that it's for lack of effort.
- 52:08SPEAKER_00: And so those are two different client bases that you know I could help in two different ways.
- 52:13SPEAKER_00: However, it's uh, you know, that that those would be my my tips for someone that's like, dude, I want to I want to go down this road.
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: Do you think that the average person should be tracking all their calories that they bring in?
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: So it depends, man.
- 52:28SPEAKER_00: Like it depends on the goal.
- 52:30SPEAKER_00: So if a if a person's like, dude, I want to know how to have a six-pack, absolutely, 100%.
- 52:34SPEAKER_00: Like if a person's like, dude, I'm 50 pounds overweight, I just want to lose weight with the easiest strategy possible, then caloric deficit is always gonna be the mechanism that's gonna drive the the weight loss.
- 52:48SPEAKER_00: We could get caloric deficit by going keto, we could get caloric deficit by going paleo, we could get caloric deficit by intermittent fasting and being like a busy entrepreneur.
- 52:57SPEAKER_00: Like stop eating breakfast, eat two meals a day, for lunch, have this, for dinner, have something like this, and they'll lose weight.
- 53:03SPEAKER_00: But they're they're never gonna get there there, right?
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: They're never gonna get there there.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: And so that's what I'm so interested in and my company is about.
- 53:11SPEAKER_00: I like to close the loop um and and solidify in your mind this new self-image.
- 53:18SPEAKER_00: I like to send that signal so deep into the unconscious that like I'm a badass, bro.
- 53:24SPEAKER_00: Like I'm a I'm a business savage and like I look at, I feel it, I perform it.
- 53:29SPEAKER_00: And so for a person that wants that, yeah, dude, we got to track for for a certain number of um weeks.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: After that, you don't have to track all the year-round.
- 53:37SPEAKER_00: Like, if you want to know what I do, I live by, you know, and what's what's next for you is the is the seasonal approach, man.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: Like I it's periodization of nutrition, which a lot of times we get in training.
- 53:50SPEAKER_00: But for you, there's gonna come a point you can't diet year-round.
- 53:53SPEAKER_00: You're not gonna diet year-round.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: We got to restore metabolic function, we got to restore hormone level, we got to take those calories all the way up, probably well over 3,000, and give you 500 grams of carbs where you're like, dude, call and John, like how do I get these in?
- 54:07SPEAKER_00: And your body weight is literally staying the same.
- 54:09SPEAKER_00: And we restore those numbers and you're and you start setting PRs in the gym, and you do that for a certain number of weeks, and you look your you look at your calendar year and you and you think to yourself, when do I want to be in the best shape?
- 54:22SPEAKER_00: When do you want to be in the best shape if you were to pick a time of year?
- 54:25SPEAKER_00: Obviously year-round, but like the most optimal aesthetic shape.
- 54:29SPEAKER_00: Summer.
- 54:30SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: Spring, summer, fall.
- 54:31SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: So January comes around.
- 54:33SPEAKER_00: You're like, okay, I proved to myself I can do this.
- 54:35SPEAKER_00: I got to get out of diet phase.
- 54:36SPEAKER_00: Now from January, February, and March, I'm gonna focus on building muscle.
- 54:41SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna focus on building muscle, setting PRs, getting calories through the roof, right?
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: Limiting fat gain, but we're gonna gain a little bit of fat.
- 54:48SPEAKER_00: We might get a little bit softer around the edges.
- 54:51SPEAKER_00: Desserts come around or a couple of cocktails that you were saying no to, you could be like, uh, it's okay, right?
- 54:56SPEAKER_00: There's a fine line, but you feel like you're out of a diet phase so that you give yourself a little tiny break, right?
- 55:03SPEAKER_00: And then March or March, April, May, June, or April, May, June, you're like, I'm gonna dial it in and just be dialed in fitness.
- 55:12SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna have vein popping out of my ab.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: When I go to the country club and go to the pool, people are gonna go, what the hell is Dustin doing?
- 55:19SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 55:20SPEAKER_00: And then, you know, when you when you come up to the holidays and it's Halloween and then new, and then Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year's, you don't like try to grit grind your teeth through diet, which you've done a good job of because we had to, you know, the time was right for you this year.
- 55:37SPEAKER_00: But I'm telling you, right now, next year, um, if you were my client, I would say, look, man, October, November, December, we're gonna be in a little maintenance phase.
- 55:46SPEAKER_00: You're gonna train hard.
- 55:47SPEAKER_00: I don't expect you to be a hundred percent perfect.
- 55:50SPEAKER_00: You're gonna be, you're still gonna have a six pack, it's all gonna be good.
- 55:53SPEAKER_00: However, we're our calories are gonna be higher.
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: There's gonna be a lot more room to navigate, right?
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: And so you start to know like when it's time, when it's the season, when it's the off-season, when it's the pre-season, and when it's the championship.
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: When you start knowing that, dude, like fitness is fun.
- 56:10SPEAKER_00: Nutrition is fun for me because I don't trick myself and try to be, you know, in this diet phase for 12 months out of the year.
- 56:17SPEAKER_00: I get excited when the when the season changes.
- 56:20SPEAKER_00: And when I know it's championship time, when I'm here down in Scottsdale and every single day, like people are having, you know, barbecues and pool time.
- 56:27SPEAKER_00: I'm like, bro, I'll have 10 veins popping through my abs and it'll be awesome.
- 56:31SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 56:32SPEAKER_00: I get client after client after client.
- 56:34SPEAKER_00: But through the holidays, these same people like see me and invite me over, and I'm eating, you know, some cookies and having a little bit of fun with food because I'm not, you know, so crazy about it.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 56:44SPEAKER_00: Totally.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: It and what I've really enjoyed is, you know, when when I'm given the guidelines, like here's how much fat, carbs, and and protein you you can have in a day, like it's up to me to figure out what foods reach those levels.
- 56:59SPEAKER_01: And so like I'll I'll have steak for dinner.
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't, it's not boiled chicken and broccoli every goddamn meal.
- 57:06SPEAKER_01: Um, it's I mean, a lot of chicken, but steak, you know, toast with butter, um, Kodiak cake, pancakes, like like you can actually eat food you enjoy.
- 57:17SPEAKER_01: And and that's been a pleasant surprise is I can still enjoy every single meal, just not going crazy.
- 57:23SPEAKER_01: It's it's just not going absolutely crazy with uh the baked goods, which are always a weakness of mine.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, dude, me too.
- 57:31SPEAKER_00: Bring over cookies.
- 57:32SPEAKER_00: I'm like, dude, like holidays, right?
- 57:34SPEAKER_00: It's like neighbors bring over a bunch of stuff, and you're like, ah, yeah, crumble cookies or something.
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: I don't gotta throw it away or gotta eat it.
- 57:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and every once in a while, dude, throw a crumble cookie on there.
- 57:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, those things are ridiculous.
- 57:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like probably 1200 calories per cookie, man.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 57:50SPEAKER_01: I I appreciate you sharing all this.
- 57:52SPEAKER_01: Um, it's I don't think that this conversation happens enough.
- 57:57SPEAKER_01: I think business and and health and fitness are kept separate.
- 58:01SPEAKER_01: I don't know why.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: And I just uh I since you and your wife do such a great job on your podcast, kind of bridging the two, I thought that uh that this audience would be done a great service, especially going into 2021, New Year's resolutions and all that, um, you know, bridging the two because you don't need to keep like, yes, they're separate concepts, but they work together.
- 58:25SPEAKER_01: And I just want you, if you're listening, to walk away realizing that if you get your health and nutrition and fitness dialed in, that's gonna help your business.
- 58:34SPEAKER_01: And doing well in business can help give you the mindset to be healthier and do better in the gym.
- 58:39SPEAKER_01: Like it it all works together or it or it should.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: And so um, I really appreciate you taking the time to come on today.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: Um, if anyone wants to reach out to you, hire you, join your program, how do they do that?
- 58:50SPEAKER_01: How do they find you?
- 58:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the best dude, thank you for having me on, first of all, man.
- 58:54SPEAKER_00: Enjoyed the conversation and and to your point.
- 58:56SPEAKER_00: Um it like there, there's there's certain, it depends who you are, right?
- 59:01SPEAKER_00: Like if you want to win, like I already know you want to win.
- 59:04SPEAKER_00: I can see it, you know, I can hear it from your voice, your your actions back it up.
- 59:09SPEAKER_00: If you're a person, and again, like the people who listen to your show and my show, like they probably wouldn't waste time if they don't want to win.
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, we're all playing this game, and this game is now, you know, not high school football and not on the basketball court and not on the tennis court.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: It's literally, you know, we're adults now, but there's this, there's this life thing, and you know, there's this winning feeling, right?
- 59:31SPEAKER_00: Because we don't know if we're the game's not ever over.
- 59:34SPEAKER_00: The sun comes back up and it's not over until you take your last breath.
- 59:37SPEAKER_00: And so the best you can do is to, is to have that winning feeling and keep giving effort day after day after day.
- 59:42SPEAKER_00: And so the drivers and the performers and the and the people who, you know, just just want to win, like it, they they do have this sense, I think, that it's becoming more and more popular to talk about.
- 59:55SPEAKER_00: Like, look, your mind, body, business, like if you want to play at the elite level, you got to get that all in check, right?
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_00: Other people might not see it that way, but they're not the people who craves winning like we do.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_00: And it's not a number on the bank, you know, you open up your computer and it like bank account numbers is a way for people to keep score a little bit with themselves, hopefully, right?
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_00: Not in the comparison way.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_00: Pictures, you know, six pack is a is a great way to to keep score with yourself, not compare yourself to Dustin, not compare yourself to John, but compare yourself to you last week and the week before that and last year, right?
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: That's how I that's how I want to view it.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_00: I want to just keep making progress because the the people who are high performers that I work with, progress drives us, man.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_00: Growth drives us.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_00: We want to see what we're capable of.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_00: We want to see, you know, what our fullest potential looks and feels like.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_00: We're not happy if we're just staying the same because it feels like we're sliding backwards.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_00: And so, you know, for for you guys, if you feel like that, um, you know, it is it is all one.
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_00: And when you start locking all those, you know, locking that fitness in, you'll notice that every other area of your life definitely does increase.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_00: And so if you want to find more about me and, you know, my philosophy on all that, probably the best place would be johnmadsen.com, as far as um you can see the different shows that I do.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_00: I have a podcast that me and my wife do that's a really fun podcast called Upgrade Media.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_00: I have my own show that has uh probably 150 or so episodes that's just me.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_00: That's called the show.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_00: You can get links for both of those on johnmadsen.com.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_00: You can find out a little bit about my program, the Athletic AF CEO project on that website.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_00: And then if you want to connect on social, uh, if you type in John Madsen, I'll probably pop up on Instagram.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_00: But my handle is John Madsen Official.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_01: We'll link all those up in the show notes of the podcast as well.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_01: So wherever you're listening, just click into the show notes and we'll have some links for you.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_01: Um, I my wife and I have been really enjoying your uh upgrade media podcast with your wife.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: She's hilarious.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and it's it's crazy because I remember watching her on Fox 13.
