- 0:02Speaker 2: She's on the Money.
- 0:13Speaker 3: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:17Speaker 3: for millennials who want financial freedom. Welcome back to another
- 0:21Speaker 3: one of our Money Diary episodes, where this week we
- 0:25Speaker 3: speak to an epic money diarist who has three kids,
- 0:29Speaker 3: having started having children at the age of seventeen and
- 0:32Speaker 3: she's only twenty six now. She is beyond impressive. She
- 0:36Speaker 3: has her own small business. But one of the most
- 0:38Speaker 3: exciting things about this Money Diary is not actually the
- 0:41Speaker 3: Money Diary, is it Tony Lodge. Recently we've had Tony
- 0:45Speaker 3: Lodge join the team, and in joining the team as
- 0:49Speaker 3: our executive producer, she's one going to be putting our
- 0:52Speaker 3: podcast together, but me too. She's going to be joining
- 0:55Speaker 3: us every Monday moving forward to help bring to life
- 0:58Speaker 3: our money Diaries.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Hey, thank you for having me.
- 1:01Speaker 1: It's so exciting.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I am genuinely so excited about this because you are
- 1:05Speaker 3: a vision. You are a glowy human that everybody loves.
- 1:08Speaker 3: And she's also really funny, guys, like really really funny.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I mean, hease, don't put pressure on no, but like
- 1:13Speaker 1: not on TikTok. She's not funny on TikTok.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Funny on TikTok.
- 1:16Speaker 3: She tries, but she's not funny on TikTok. But that
- 1:18Speaker 3: is okay, and you know what she is. She's also
- 1:20Speaker 3: incredibly intelligent, so we are so grateful to have her
- 1:23Speaker 3: join the team.
- 1:25Speaker 1: But this is Money.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Diaries episode, so let's stop stroking your ego and get
- 1:29Speaker 3: into it.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Tony.
- 1:30Speaker 3: We got sent an email this week. Do you want
- 1:32Speaker 3: to read it out?
- 1:33Speaker 1: Okay?
- 1:34Speaker 2: Hi, she's on the Money Team.
- 1:36Speaker 4: I'm twenty six years old, married and a mum of
- 1:39Speaker 4: three boys. I met my now husband at fourteen years old,
- 1:43Speaker 4: oh Cue, and ended up falling pregnant and giving birth
- 1:46Speaker 4: at seventeen years old. We never had savings and used
- 1:49Speaker 4: every last cent of our income each week. Three years later,
- 1:53Speaker 4: I had my second child, and that's when I started
- 1:55Speaker 4: my own business, something I could do from home around
- 1:57Speaker 4: my kids' schedules, and made that my full time employer.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Within a few weeks.
- 2:01Speaker 1: How good.
- 2:02Speaker 4: I went on to have my third child and continue
- 2:04Speaker 4: to grow my small business, but desperately wanted to buy
- 2:07Speaker 4: a home, no matter how long it took. Now we
- 2:09Speaker 4: have an over the top an incredibly detailed budget which
- 2:12Speaker 4: we love to hear. Money Divided into thirteen bank accounts
- 2:15Speaker 4: your tea, including an emergency account, something I never thought
- 2:19Speaker 4: I could achieve, and are well on our way to
- 2:21Speaker 4: our savings goal to build our first home later this year.
- 2:24Speaker 4: Crazy to think three years ago we would end our
- 2:26Speaker 4: pay weeks with zero dollars to our name, and now
- 2:29Speaker 4: we have numerous accounts with savings for everything under the sun.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, how good is that? Amazing? Have you
- 2:36Speaker 1: finished the email? Can we chat to her now? Now?
- 2:38Speaker 2: Let's chat.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Obviously we can't use your name, and I can't think
- 2:41Speaker 3: of a good hustler name yet, but I'm so impressed
- 2:44Speaker 3: with your money, Darian.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Welcome to the She's on the Money Diaries.
- 2:48Speaker 5: Thank you for having me.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I'm so proud of you and I
- 2:51Speaker 1: don't even know you. How good is that? All right?
- 2:55Speaker 3: So the way this is going to work, let's jump
- 2:58Speaker 3: straight into all those questions that we've got and then.
- 3:00Speaker 1: We can have a chat about all of it straight after.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Is that alright with you?
- 3:04Speaker 5: Yes? That sounds great?
- 3:05Speaker 1: All right?
- 3:06Speaker 3: As always, the first question is what is your attitude
- 3:09Speaker 3: towards money?
- 3:11Speaker 5: So I'm very con sit in with I want to
- 3:14Speaker 5: make sure every loss sent counts in our budget. I
- 3:17Speaker 5: don't like wasting anything, but it definitely has not always
- 3:20Speaker 5: been that way. For so long, we just like deliver
- 3:23Speaker 5: each week, and we did not have any sort of
- 3:26Speaker 5: goal or idea what we wanted to do with our money.
- 3:29Speaker 5: You just floated through on our bills are paid. We
- 3:32Speaker 5: were happy, but definitely very different. Now.
- 3:35Speaker 3: How good is that? I love when people know what
- 3:38Speaker 3: their journey has been like.
- 3:39Speaker 2: So satisfying looking back as well.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Totally all right, And what do you do for work now?
- 3:45Speaker 3: And how much do you currently earn?
- 3:47Speaker 5: So? I own a cleaning service, cleaning baby equipment. I
- 3:52Speaker 5: earn about on track about thirty thousand this year.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Oh, how good is that? And it's all just like
- 3:57Speaker 3: on your terms.
- 4:00Speaker 5: So I just work from home. Sometimes I can work
- 4:02Speaker 5: an hour a day or seven or several hours a
- 4:04Speaker 5: day and get more work if I need to. So
- 4:06Speaker 5: it works really well for me around my kids.
- 4:08Speaker 1: All right, all right, onto the questions.
- 4:09Speaker 3: I've got so many questions, but onto the actual scheduled questions.
- 4:13Speaker 3: What is currently your big money goal?
- 4:17Speaker 5: Definitely to start building a home later this year. Hopefully
- 4:20Speaker 5: we can get to that goal. We're on track right now.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Exciting do you currently invest.
- 4:27Speaker 5: I do, but not the typical way everyone applies to
- 4:30Speaker 5: this question. So I was possing up between micro investing
- 4:35Speaker 5: or other investing, and I kind of had a lightful
- 4:39Speaker 5: moments that the whole reason I want to invest was
- 4:42Speaker 5: to set myself up in retirement. So being self employed
- 4:45Speaker 5: and only my sense and I put my money into
- 4:47Speaker 5: my super. I said to invest genius.
- 4:49Speaker 2: You've got a plan, girls, a plan.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Love that.
- 4:52Speaker 3: And you know what, so many small business owners just
- 4:55Speaker 3: forget to pay themselves super and they just don't consider it.
- 4:58Speaker 3: They're like, oh, I will when I can afford it,
- 5:00Speaker 3: and it's like, Oh, you're going to need to do
- 5:02Speaker 3: it now because otherwise it's going to be so much
- 5:04Speaker 3: more expensive to think.
- 5:05Speaker 1: About it later.
- 5:06Speaker 2: One hundred percent.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah, so smart. I love that.
- 5:10Speaker 3: So do you currently have any debts?
- 5:12Speaker 5: Zero debt. We're paid off everything we have ever had.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Really, Oh my gosh.
- 5:16Speaker 3: And you're on track to buying your first property, started
- 5:19Speaker 3: having babies in your teenage years and you're killing it.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Oh I love this.
- 5:22Speaker 3: Hold on, Hold on all right, next question, what is
- 5:25Speaker 3: your best money habit?
- 5:28Speaker 5: I'm very cruel. I like to make sure I get
- 5:30Speaker 5: the best price for anything we purchase, that's seeing food
- 5:34Speaker 5: or clothes or furniture, I will find the best price
- 5:37Speaker 5: that is guarantee it.
- 5:39Speaker 1: That is good. Have you got any tips for us?
- 5:41Speaker 3: How do we implement finding the best price guarantee Just.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Take your time, don't buy very fast, makes you do
- 5:48Speaker 5: lots and lots of research because you're guaranteeing and buy
- 5:50Speaker 5: something better at a bitter price.
- 5:52Speaker 1: I love that.
- 5:53Speaker 3: And in contrast, what's your worst money habit?
- 5:57Speaker 5: Ah? Probably take out just far too easy to drive
- 6:01Speaker 5: down a macas for dinner when you've had a long
- 6:03Speaker 5: day's work and you've got three hendry kIPS in the car.
- 6:06Speaker 5: So I definitely need to break that habit.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I feel like when I become a parent, that will
- 6:10Speaker 3: absolutely be me.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of people that would relate
- 6:13Speaker 2: to that. Yeah, yeah, it's or not. Yeah.
- 6:15Speaker 3: I feel like there's so many people that always like,
- 6:17Speaker 3: oh my gosh, yeah, when I have kids, I'm never
- 6:19Speaker 3: going to feed them non organic anything and they're only
- 6:22Speaker 3: ever going.
- 6:22Speaker 1: To drink water. And I already know that's not going
- 6:25Speaker 1: to be me. Like I already know have to be realistic.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Macis chips off, the kids can have them all the time.
- 6:32Speaker 5: I'm already not worth the fight. At night time. You
- 6:35Speaker 5: just have to give a macis instead of veggies exactly five.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yeah, No, I'm totally for that because I know what
- 6:42Speaker 3: I'm like when I'm hungry, so therefore I know what
- 6:45Speaker 3: future children are going to be like, and I guarantee
- 6:48Speaker 3: you it'll be ten times worse than me. So give
- 6:50Speaker 3: them the macas chips. And they probably won't get the
- 6:53Speaker 3: diet Cocai order because it won't allow.
- 6:54Speaker 4: That I don't know, water obviously, unless it's a Friday,
- 6:58Speaker 4: they get a fantas.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Yeah, they can have had on Friday, all right.
- 7:02Speaker 3: And if I asked you to give yourself a grade,
- 7:05Speaker 3: what would you grade your money habits?
- 7:08Speaker 5: Probably ab because I definitely have room to improve. But
- 7:13Speaker 5: I've definitely improved from where we were only.
- 7:16Speaker 1: A b.
- 7:18Speaker 5: I just feel like I had so much more to learn,
- 7:20Speaker 5: especially when we do eventually buy a home. There's only
- 7:22Speaker 5: a whole new ballpark of bills. I don't even know
- 7:26Speaker 5: anything about.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Oh you're such a grown up.
- 7:28Speaker 1: I love you. I love you. Oh my gosh.
- 7:31Speaker 3: All right, we have so many more questions for you,
- 7:33Speaker 3: and we'll just to a quick break and then I'm
- 7:35Speaker 3: going to dive straight into them. All right, we are back,
- 7:42Speaker 3: and I am so excited to ask you some questions.
- 7:45Speaker 3: I hope it's not too pervy. But you mentioned before
- 7:48Speaker 3: you had your first child at seventeen, got into a
- 7:51Speaker 3: relationship at fourteen. How old are you now with three children.
- 7:55Speaker 5: I'm twenty six right now.
- 7:57Speaker 3: And so you've now got three kids and one of
- 7:59Speaker 3: them ages because I'm really bad at that quick match.
- 8:03Speaker 5: So they are nine or almost nine, almost six, and
- 8:07Speaker 5: almost three.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Wow, oh my gosh.
- 8:09Speaker 3: And how does that make you feel when it comes
- 8:11Speaker 3: to money, because obviously having a kid at seventeen, I
- 8:14Speaker 3: really doubt is a lot of people's plans. It's kind
- 8:17Speaker 3: of just something that you go, all right, well this
- 8:19Speaker 3: is happening, We're going to deal with it. But how
- 8:21Speaker 3: has that impacted your money story?
- 8:25Speaker 5: So it's definitely made it more difficult or you didn't
- 8:29Speaker 5: move out. It's hard for anyone financially to move out,
- 8:31Speaker 5: but then have to throw on the extenses of kids
- 8:35Speaker 5: and have to make sure responsible right from the starts
- 8:37Speaker 5: you don't fall behind. It's hard and that sense, but
- 8:42Speaker 5: it also gives you kick up the bombs to do
- 8:44Speaker 5: the right things. From the start, So I didn't like,
- 8:47Speaker 5: we know, fell into a big set or anything in
- 8:49Speaker 5: those first years, which you know a lot of people do,
- 8:51Speaker 5: so that kind of helps.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I guess, yeah.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 8:55Speaker 4: We talk a bit about how FOMO affects our finances
- 8:58Speaker 4: and our financial story on She's on the Money. Do
- 9:01Speaker 4: you feel like, because you were younger and having kids,
- 9:04Speaker 4: like your friends would have been going out and partying
- 9:06Speaker 4: and like spending a summer in Europe and things like,
- 9:08Speaker 4: did you feel like you had to service your family
- 9:12Speaker 4: but then also meet the standards of what your friends
- 9:15Speaker 4: were up to while you were young as well.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Do you feel like that affected you.
- 9:20Speaker 5: When I was younger, No, actually, because my husband and
- 9:23Speaker 5: I are quite quiet people. We don't party or anything.
- 9:26Speaker 5: But as you got older, we saw all our friends
- 9:29Speaker 5: at cheer, buying homes, just having these grand weddings. But
- 9:33Speaker 5: that's something that was never would never we'd be good
- 9:35Speaker 5: at tea as much as you as like to. So
- 9:38Speaker 5: I guess it's no when you were younger, but definitely
- 9:40Speaker 5: has you get older and realize you're falling behind where
- 9:43Speaker 5: everyone else is sitting in their life.
- 9:45Speaker 3: See, I feel like you've got it right, Like I
- 9:49Speaker 3: feel like maybe this is a very backwards opinion, but
- 9:52Speaker 3: when I'm because I'm turning thirty in the next couple
- 9:55Speaker 3: of months and I don't have kids on them, probably
- 9:57Speaker 3: a couple of years off kids, Yet I feel like,
- 9:59Speaker 3: when I have kids, you're going to have already gone
- 10:02Speaker 3: through that. So you're going to be like laughing at
- 10:04Speaker 3: me being older not having as much energy for these children.
- 10:07Speaker 3: You're like, mate, I'm done with that.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I have sleeper, it's already gone, get all gone.
- 10:12Speaker 3: So you can actually live your best life in the
- 10:14Speaker 3: period of time where you can generate great income and
- 10:17Speaker 3: like have a work life balance that works, instead of
- 10:19Speaker 3: also trying to make it in a career while having
- 10:22Speaker 3: a toddler that needs.
- 10:22Speaker 1: To be dropped off at daycare.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Like, your kids are going to be pretty self sufficient
- 10:26Speaker 3: at that point, So I feel like you might feel
- 10:28Speaker 3: a little bit behind, But I guarantee everything's going to
- 10:31Speaker 3: come to a griddening holt for a lot of those friends,
- 10:34Speaker 3: and you'll end up being the ones that are like, yeah,
- 10:36Speaker 3: see cool, we're just popping off for the weekend. We're
- 10:39Speaker 3: having a great time, have fun picking up your four
- 10:42Speaker 3: year old from.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Daycare at forty Victoria. Yeah, that's what's going to happen.
- 10:45Speaker 5: I definitely, I definitely talk a husband a lot of that,
- 10:48Speaker 5: all the things, all places we're going to go to
- 10:50Speaker 5: when the kids are grown up, all the travel we're
- 10:51Speaker 5: going to do. You feel all more financially stable when
- 10:54Speaker 5: we go travel. Don't have to get credit cards to
- 10:56Speaker 5: travel or anything like that.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, that is so true, though, Like I
- 11:00Speaker 3: hate that you said you felt behind. I was like, no,
- 11:02Speaker 3: I feel like, yeah, exactly on track. Like you sound
- 11:05Speaker 3: like a really level headed person. How do you talk
- 11:08Speaker 3: to your kids about money?
- 11:11Speaker 5: So we're quite open, so they know our budget. We
- 11:15Speaker 5: talk with them when I'm working it out. They sit
- 11:17Speaker 5: with me and they look at it. They obviously don't understand,
- 11:20Speaker 5: but they are understanding that we need a budget so
- 11:23Speaker 5: we can pay our bills. And they're watching us grow
- 11:26Speaker 5: our savings to buy a home, and they're italy waiting
- 11:29Speaker 5: for us to get to that goal just as much
- 11:30Speaker 5: as we are.
- 11:32Speaker 3: And when they get older, it's like having a fan
- 11:35Speaker 3: club of people who are cheering you on to my
- 11:37Speaker 3: first home. I feel like we'd all achieve a goal
- 11:40Speaker 3: much quicker if we all had a little fan club.
- 11:43Speaker 5: Yeah, I have like a visual thing on our whiteboard
- 11:46Speaker 5: of where we're got like half away. Jeeves and the
- 11:50Speaker 5: boys like, definitely make sure we don't fall behind or
- 11:53Speaker 5: skip a week of savings because they can see that.
- 11:56Speaker 2: So you want, so sweet?
- 11:58Speaker 1: I love that?
- 12:00Speaker 3: And to b Pervy again, what does your partner do?
- 12:03Speaker 3: And how much does your partner earn?
- 12:05Speaker 5: So he works in customer service and he earns about
- 12:08Speaker 5: fifty five thousand dollars a year.
- 12:10Speaker 3: That's pretty good. That's pretty good. And is he the
- 12:13Speaker 3: same age as you? You met at fourteen?
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yet?
- 12:15Speaker 5: Yes, yes, he is the same age as me.
- 12:17Speaker 1: That is so sweet.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Are you guys are killing it?
- 12:19Speaker 3: I know.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I love love stories as well.
- 12:21Speaker 3: I love when people are like, oh, yeah, we met
- 12:22Speaker 3: at school and now three kids, Like it's so sweet.
- 12:26Speaker 3: So how do between you you guys meet your joint
- 12:30Speaker 3: money goals?
- 12:30Speaker 1: Like?
- 12:30Speaker 3: Have you always been on the same page about money goals?
- 12:33Speaker 3: Obviously you said that a home is something that you're
- 12:35Speaker 3: working towards. Do you have the same money values or
- 12:38Speaker 3: is that something that you come up against or you know,
- 12:40Speaker 3: talk to me about that.
- 12:43Speaker 5: My husband and I are definitely on the same track.
- 12:45Speaker 5: How the same goals of mine? So I sit down
- 12:48Speaker 5: and write the budget, and my husband's definitely with me,
- 12:51Speaker 5: agrees that the goals we want to achieve, and agrees
- 12:53Speaker 5: with them that we put into each account and we
- 12:56Speaker 5: have its joint account, so or am I just grossed
- 12:59Speaker 5: to one and just automative transferred to each account? So
- 13:03Speaker 5: we're all pretty happy and find it very easy to handle.
- 13:07Speaker 2: I guess so you said.
- 13:08Speaker 4: That you've got thirteen bank accounts, Like how do you
- 13:11Speaker 4: prioritize what goes where? And is that kind of how
- 13:15Speaker 4: you manage exactly what's where, or like what's your thinking
- 13:19Speaker 4: behind that?
- 13:20Speaker 5: So we have a very detailed budget. We actually download
- 13:23Speaker 5: one from money smart and it is amazing to get
- 13:27Speaker 5: all the details I need, and we supposit all our
- 13:31Speaker 5: income into one joint account. From there, we have automatic
- 13:35Speaker 5: transfers into thirteen different accounts for all the different bills.
- 13:39Speaker 5: So we have accounts for savings and blurred and growthries
- 13:45Speaker 5: and school and daycare and utilities and kidsidentals and you
- 13:48Speaker 5: name it, we have an account for it. So then
- 13:51Speaker 5: we know, like when money comes out of the account,
- 13:53Speaker 5: we're not going to take money from another account. It's
- 13:55Speaker 5: all evenly spread out.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Yeah, that's so good, And do you feel like that
- 13:59Speaker 3: actually just keeps you more on track, because there's not
- 14:02Speaker 3: just one big pot of money that you can be
- 14:04Speaker 3: tempted to dip into.
- 14:06Speaker 5: Yes, yes, absolutely. Previously we had a bank account where
- 14:10Speaker 5: all our money would go into one bill's account. We
- 14:13Speaker 5: we'd call it. But it's so easy to actent spend
- 14:16Speaker 5: more on like a celebration than we expected, like a
- 14:20Speaker 5: kid's birthday, and then that takes from our regro for instance,
- 14:24Speaker 5: and then we'll get to the day regro is to
- 14:26Speaker 5: you and you're like, oh my god, there's not enough
- 14:28Speaker 5: money in here. Now.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Oh, that's so stressful, especially with three kids, that's a
- 14:33Speaker 3: lot to deal with.
- 14:35Speaker 1: How do kids? I obviously don't have children.
- 14:38Speaker 3: We've recently done an episode on having children and the
- 14:42Speaker 3: costs associated with giving birth, not actually bringing up children. Yeah,
- 14:46Speaker 3: but like what does that look like on a weekly
- 14:48Speaker 3: or monthly basis? Like what are kids on average? I
- 14:51Speaker 3: guess cost especially three of them.
- 14:54Speaker 5: Oh, they're expensive.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I can't imagine.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a lot of tiny teddies.
- 14:59Speaker 5: Yeah. I think the biggest expense is daycare because our kids,
- 15:05Speaker 5: so our water kids for a public school, and just
- 15:08Speaker 5: the amounts on daycare for the month is enough to
- 15:11Speaker 5: cover their tie expenses for the public school for the.
- 15:13Speaker 3: Year much daycare per month, so.
- 15:20Speaker 5: Each days one hundred and fifteen dollars and they go
- 15:23Speaker 5: three days a.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Week one hundred and fifteen dollars a day to go
- 15:26Speaker 3: to daycare.
- 15:27Speaker 5: And we're not even like get a capital city or
- 15:29Speaker 5: anything like that, which is even more expensive.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Oh my gosh.
- 15:32Speaker 3: I always end up really shocked about the cost of daycare,
- 15:36Speaker 3: which at the same time is going, you know what,
- 15:38Speaker 3: that's ridiculous, Like, that's so much money. You can also
- 15:41Speaker 3: see on the flip side, you're like, you know what,
- 15:42Speaker 3: it's my child and they're being looked after. But the
- 15:45Speaker 3: amount of daycare workers do not get paid is not
- 15:48Speaker 3: reflective of the amount of money that parents are paying
- 15:51Speaker 3: for them to go to daycare. And you what else
- 15:54Speaker 3: baffles me about this is that is a cost.
- 15:57Speaker 1: This is all personal opinions, so please don't take it
- 15:59Speaker 1: this advice, my friends. What it costs for a child to.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Go to daycare to me, in my opinion, is directly
- 16:06Speaker 3: related to your ability to produce an income as a parent.
- 16:10Speaker 3: So given it is a work related cost, why is
- 16:13Speaker 3: it not tax deductible? Ooh, interesting? Imagine if you could
- 16:18Speaker 3: claim daycare on tax how much easier life would be. Like,
- 16:22Speaker 3: I'm not even asking for daycare to be brought down,
- 16:24Speaker 3: just let me claim it on tax.
- 16:26Speaker 4: I think as well, because being able to send your
- 16:29Speaker 4: kids to daycare and correct me if I'm wrong gives
- 16:33Speaker 4: you a sense of independence and your own identity to
- 16:35Speaker 4: be able to work or whether that's time that you
- 16:38Speaker 4: spend being able to go to the gym or do
- 16:41Speaker 4: your own stuff, whatever, it is like all that life
- 16:44Speaker 4: admin that kind of pops up that you've got to do,
- 16:46Speaker 4: and you need that spare time just to be your
- 16:48Speaker 4: own person. It would be really like liberating to be
- 16:52Speaker 4: able to do your own thing. But I mean absolutely
- 16:54Speaker 4: it's very expensive to be able to do it.
- 16:57Speaker 3: But one hundred and fifteen dollars a day, that's like
- 16:59Speaker 3: more than three hundred dollars a week. That's what some
- 17:02Speaker 3: people are making in a week, which makes it completely
- 17:05Speaker 3: unequitable to be sending kids to daycare. Sometimes, no wonder
- 17:09Speaker 3: women are put in a position where they have to
- 17:11Speaker 3: choose between well do I just stay home.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Because then I don't have to outlay that exact money.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Once you have three kids under four and none of
- 17:18Speaker 3: them are at school. Yeah, that would be so expensive
- 17:22Speaker 3: and it feels so harsh to be having to make
- 17:26Speaker 3: decisions like that.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I respect you.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah, No, that's no easy feat for sure.
- 17:32Speaker 5: It was definitely it's sending me proper for a long
- 17:35Speaker 5: time because of how expensive it is. But last year
- 17:38Speaker 5: during COVID, they made free childcare, so that definitely got
- 17:42Speaker 5: us to put our youngest into daycare because I relish that,
- 17:45Speaker 5: and then I realized how much I needed that because
- 17:49Speaker 5: I was so much more productive at work having our
- 17:51Speaker 5: children home. Yeah, abso lately couldn't call them out after that.
- 17:56Speaker 4: I know that you mentioned a little bit about like
- 17:58Speaker 4: what your business is before, but could you talk a
- 18:00Speaker 4: bit more about what your small business is and how.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Many start that. There's a mom of three, Yeah, that's huge.
- 18:08Speaker 5: So I own a business cleaning all things baby equipment.
- 18:12Speaker 5: It's a nice, easy job to do from home. I
- 18:16Speaker 5: started it. I previously work in a pharmacy and then
- 18:19Speaker 5: I was having a really hard time working there. I
- 18:22Speaker 5: had much about anxiety to think about even going to work.
- 18:25Speaker 5: And then my eldest son got really sick and was
- 18:29Speaker 5: in hospital and I had to call in, say calling
- 18:32Speaker 5: sick and I was to come in for a couple
- 18:33Speaker 5: of weeks, and the moment I hung up, I just
- 18:36Speaker 5: was such a relief from my constant anxiety that I
- 18:39Speaker 5: knew that was it. I had to find Yes. I
- 18:42Speaker 5: wrote my resonation email within thirty minutes.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, you were like, actually, you know how
- 18:49Speaker 3: I said a couple of weeks I kind of meant, ever, yeah, I'm.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Not coming back.
- 18:54Speaker 5: Yeah. So that was kind of push up the brew
- 18:56Speaker 5: up the bum to get a small business going, and
- 19:00Speaker 5: I had been thinking out the stages, so I just thought,
- 19:03Speaker 5: what the hell, I'll do it now, and it ended
- 19:06Speaker 5: up working out really well because there's no one in
- 19:07Speaker 5: our area that services me.
- 19:09Speaker 3: But that would be booming, right because surely like stuff
- 19:12Speaker 3: like prams and high chairs get absolutely filthy.
- 19:15Speaker 5: Yeah, yes, absolutely, and there's so many of them all
- 19:18Speaker 5: around Australia now ever since I found my business, so
- 19:21Speaker 5: it's definitely something that is very needed everywhere.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Absolutely, what a good idea. Yeah, that's so niche.
- 19:30Speaker 3: But also I love that she can just do it
- 19:31Speaker 3: from home. You don't even have to go to other
- 19:33Speaker 3: people's places to do it.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Yeah, and also you could do it at your own pace.
- 19:36Speaker 4: As long as people had things when they needed it,
- 19:38Speaker 4: you could kind of sit at home and go like, oh,
- 19:40Speaker 4: I don't have time for that right now, I'll do
- 19:41Speaker 4: it in a second, you know, no deadline of Yeah amazing,
- 19:45Speaker 4: I love that.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I could do that.
- 19:46Speaker 5: But I'm too over the top of like, oh, how
- 19:48Speaker 5: did you get this done?
- 19:51Speaker 2: We're the same so I don't know why I even
- 19:53Speaker 2: said that.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Do no worry, Like, I totally get it.
- 19:55Speaker 3: It's good in theory, but then you yeah, no, it's
- 19:58Speaker 3: not how it works. But that's okay. That's a conversation
