- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities CE OS and even royalty Adam Cox, these
- 0:21recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's world
- 0:24famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:38Hi, it's Adam here. Now if you've ever struggled
- 0:42with either reducing alcohol or quitting alcohol, I think you're
- 0:47going to get some value from this session because it uses 2
- 0:51metaphors that I really like and they're kind of gamification. 1
- 0:54is a board game, Snakes and Ladders, and the other is one of
- 0:59my favorite games Playing as a child was Super Mario Kart and
- 1:03occasionally the opponent in front would throw a banana skin
- 1:06and try and have you slip off the track.
- 1:08Now I was working with a client that made amazing progress,
- 1:11really reduced the amount of alcohol that they were drinking
- 1:14because they wanted to reduce the amount of alcohol.
- 1:16But there's a few things that triggered them into drinking and
- 1:20we can think of these has banana skins or snakes on the snakes
- 1:24and ladders board. And actually one of the key
- 1:27things here is to use that as reconnaissance and say, well,
- 1:30look, if the same thing happened, what would I do
- 1:33differently? And that's the whole premise of
- 1:35this hypnosis session is to learn from the past to empower
- 1:39you in the future. So I would say you're going to
- 1:42benefit most from this session if there is something that you
- 1:46want to reduce. Now, I use alcohol because
- 1:48that's what the client wanted. But for you, it might be snacks
- 1:54or it might be cigarettes, or it might be a recreational drug of
- 1:56some kind, Whatever you want to reduce more of.
- 1:59And before you listen to this session, it's worth thinking
- 2:02about. What are the banana skins for
- 2:04you? Now, quite often banana skins
- 2:06can be environments being with certain people.
- 2:10It might be locations, certain places.
- 2:12So for this lady it was the pub and certain friends that would
- 2:16visit with a bottle of wine. For you, it might be a different
- 2:19environment. It might be certain situations
- 2:23that feel very stressful, or it might be people that are using
- 2:26certain substances and then you feel that you know there's an
- 2:30obligation for you to kind of partake or get involved as well.
- 2:35The key thing is to think about your banana skins and these
- 2:38might be emotional, feeling bad or or other things, but think
- 2:43about those. And then this uses a snakes and
- 2:46ladders metaphor. And if you're not familiar with
- 2:49snakes and ladders, it's just a board game with 100 squares and
- 2:51you roll the dice. But a ladder is a shortcut and a
- 2:54snake makes you go back. And normally I've worked with
- 2:58many, many people, they will unconsciously be playing this
- 3:01game with snakes and ladders, particularly for weight loss.
- 3:03They'll say, you know, I was doing amazingly and then I had a
- 3:06slice of cake and then a biscuit, and then I went all the
- 3:08way back to square 1. And how demotivating would that
- 3:11feel if you genuinely felt that you could undo months of
- 3:15progress in one decision? And that's why snakes and
- 3:19ladders can be a disempowering metaphor if it's unconsciously
- 3:23sabotaging you, but it can also be very empowering because if
- 3:26you know where the snakes are, you can avoid them in the
- 3:28future. So if you want to make a change,
- 3:32reduce something or avoid something, you'll benefit from
- 3:34this, but you'll benefit even more if you are trying to reduce
- 3:37alcohol because that's the client that I was working with
- 3:40and their goal is it's going to be more direct for you.
- 3:43If you like the idea of working with me and you want something a
- 3:45bit more bespoke, entirely tailored to you, then I would
- 3:50encourage you to look in the description where there is a
- 3:53link where you can book a completely free consultation
- 3:55call. We can have a chat and you can
- 3:58see if I'm the right hypnotherapist to work with you.
- 4:02For now though, find a quiet, comfortable place where you're
- 4:05not going to be disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 4:22Take a deep breath in, and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 4:30feeling of calm relaxation. And as you exhale, just release
- 4:36all tension in your eyelids and with your eyes closed, feel a
- 4:42release as you breathe in relaxation and exhale tension,
- 4:51each breath feeling like you're breathing in what your body
- 4:57needs and exhaling anything you've been holding onto that
- 5:07isn't needed here in this moment now.
- 5:13And maybe that's tension or stress or frustration or
- 5:20boredom, but just feel that you're letting go.
- 5:26And many emotions are stored in the body.
- 5:33Tension sometimes around the jaw or the neck or the shoulders.
- 5:40Restlessness or anxiety, sometimes deep in the gut.
- 5:47But I want you to imagine breathing in a warm feeling of
- 5:52relaxation that just melts away any of those sensations,
- 6:01enabling you to feel like you're drifting deeper and deeper.
- 6:07Relaxed breathing in what you need and exhaling what you
- 6:14don't. The deeper you breathe, the more
- 6:20relaxed you become. And the more relaxed you become,
- 6:25the deeper you breathe, each breath taking you deeper than
- 6:29the last. And I want you to think of a
- 6:35memory, maybe a long time ago, of either you playing a game or
- 6:44watching a game of Snakes and ladders.
- 6:51I want you to see that board with 100 squares, maybe see
- 6:58coloured counters, someone rolling a die.
- 7:04And I want you to get a sense that the premise is an easy game
- 7:09to follow. You have to make your way from
- 7:14square 1 all the way to square 100.
- 7:21The ladders become the shortcut and the snakes become the
- 7:26pitfalls, meaning you have to cover old ground.
- 7:34And sometimes life can feel like a game of snakes and ladders
- 7:40with one big difference. In the game of snakes and
- 7:46ladders, it's all random based on the roll of a dice.
- 7:53But in life, every snake you fall on means you know exactly
- 8:01what to avoid in the future. A nice way of thinking about it
- 8:10in life is like a game that you either win or you learn.
- 8:15And I want you to think of all the progress you've already
- 8:20made, and that's a win. And sometimes even doubting
- 8:26something you used to believe fully is a win.
- 8:32Questioning old thoughts, old ideas, even replaying things in
- 8:39your mind that you could do differently is a win.
- 8:49But I want you to think that sometimes it can feel like
- 8:54you've taking a few steps backward, that you've fallen on
- 9:00a snake. And whether you think of them as
- 9:04snakes or banana skins or pitfalls, your mind knows that
- 9:14they are things to be wary of. Weaknesses and Achilles heel
- 9:25What if you are wiser because of those times that you slipped on
- 9:32those banana skins or landed on a snake?
- 9:41So as you breathe in and breathe out, I want you to imagine that
- 9:46square 100 winning the game is having the kind of relationship
- 9:54with alcohol that you would want.
- 9:58And no, you are living that way, that your intentions and your
- 10:05actions are aligned and you're not quite there yet, but you're
- 10:14not at square one. You're perhaps halfway up the
- 10:18board because of all the progress you've already made,
- 10:26and you can feel proud of that progress, but still eager to
- 10:32avoid those future snakes that may take it longer to get to
- 10:38that future. The future where you have the
- 10:43ideal relationship with alcohol for you.
- 10:51I want you to think maybe in the last few weeks you may have
- 10:57landed on a snake or two and although it might be frustrating
- 11:03to take a few steps back, you are now wiser.
- 11:09This was not losing, it was reconnaissance, because you now
- 11:13know exactly what they are and where they are.
- 11:21And I want you to think that one of those snakes is hearing bad
- 11:25news of some kind. I want you to think back to a
- 11:29time when you heard bad news, and that bad news was
- 11:35justification to have a drink. But you're wiser now.
- 11:42So knowing what you now know, I want you to think back to that
- 11:47same bad news, only this time, do what you would like to do
- 11:54instead. And maybe that's going for a
- 11:58walk, or playing with your dogs or doing some exercise.
- 12:05But when you can see that version of you doing what you
- 12:10would have liked to have done instead, let me know by nodding
- 12:12your head and then place it from the past into the future,
- 12:22knowing that there will be bad news because there always is,
- 12:28only this time. Imagine getting a sense that
- 12:31when you hear bad news, alcohol is so far down the list it
- 12:38doesn't even appear because there's so many other things
- 12:43that would help better. And another snake might be
- 12:49different news. Good news, celebrations.
- 12:56I want you to think of a time when you heard good news, and
- 12:59that good news LED you to drink more than you wanted.
- 13:06And knowing what you now know, imagine seeing you like you're
- 13:11someone else. Deal with that same good news in
- 13:18a way that feels much more empowering to you.
- 13:22And maybe it was drinking, but just drinking a little.
- 13:28Or maybe it was drinking nothing at all and just celebrating with
- 13:33congratulations, a smile, a hug. Because there are many people in
- 13:40the world that don't drink, but that doesn't mean they don't
- 13:45celebrate. And I want you to feel that
- 13:49you're harnessing all of the strategies of the millions upon
- 13:54millions of people that don't drink alcohol, feeling like you
- 13:58can celebrate in the way they celebrate.
- 14:02And if you choose to drink, it's because you choose to, not
- 14:06because you feel obliged to. Then that's a sneaky snake
- 14:28because it doesn't feel like a trap until the next day.
- 14:35And it was. But I want you to think of
- 14:42social snakes. Your friends aren't snakes, but
- 14:50the situation can be. Many things in nature seem
- 14:58attractive, desirable on the surface, and it's only when it's
- 15:04too late do you realize it was a trap.
- 15:09Think of a family looking at a Venus flytrap.
- 15:13That pungent smell is delicious to a family, but the moment it
- 15:18figures out by touching that second hair in the trap, the
- 15:26trap is already closing and it's too late.
- 15:31I want you to get a feeling then Feeling an expectation, a social
- 15:38pressure, a feeling that it would be rude not to are all
- 15:44these sneaky snakes that can send you back back in a
- 15:49direction you don't want to go. But I want you to think that
- 15:54there are many ways to sidestep those snakes to avoid the banana
- 15:59skins. People are reasonable when
- 16:04you've got good reasons. So imagine seeing yourself.
- 16:09Whether it's friends coming over with a bottle of wine or going
- 16:14to a pub, or celebrating at a big obsession or occasion, I
- 16:23want you to see yourself armed with good reasons why you're
- 16:28drinking less or not at all. If you can see that version of
- 16:34you dealing with situations in your past in a way to sidestep
- 16:42those banana skins, let me know by nodding your head.
- 16:49But having good reasons isn't the only strategy.
- 16:53I want you to feel empowered whenever you have a delicious or
- 17:00desirable alternative. That could be a refreshing glass
- 17:05of water, a soft drink, a juice, a mocktail, or perhaps an
- 17:15alcohol free beer. These aren't poor quality
- 17:20substitutes. These are ways that you get to
- 17:24be involved, connect, socialize and have fun without the need to
- 17:31drink more than you want to. And some of these you can create
- 17:37yourself. Maybe imagine friends coming
- 17:41over, They gift you a bottle of wine, but you make them a
- 17:46delicious drink, a cocktail perhaps either low or no
- 17:52alcohol. It adds to the experience, with
- 17:57no need for awkwardness or rudeness.
- 18:00It enhances the experience, not detracting from it.
- 18:04I want you to get a sense. Then another snake is the day
- 18:15after. Imagine seeing yourself opening
- 18:19a fridge and seeing half a bottle 1/4 of a bottle of wine.
- 18:27In the past, this would have been a temptation, but I want
- 18:32you to see that version of you that is affirming a new
- 18:38identity. Because every time you simply
- 18:44tip away leftover wine down the sink or even better, down the
- 18:51toilet, you are voting to empower the version of you that
- 19:01will drink only when you decide it's worth it.
- 19:07Only in special occasions, and only at the amount that you
- 19:12decide it being leftover just isn't desirable enough for you.
- 19:21I want you to think of someone half eating some food.
- 19:28Would you eat someone's leftover food, not from the main dish,
- 19:35but from their plate? If there was leftover wine in
- 19:40someone else's glass, would you drink their wine?
- 19:47The fact that it's in a bottle doesn't mean it's different.
- 19:49It's just leftovers. And imagine yourself seeing that
- 19:55leftover wine and confidently, in an empowered way, tipping it
- 20:01away, feeling you don't want it, you don't need it.
- 20:08If you could imagine that, let me know by nodding your head.
- 20:13And then rewind it. Step into that version of you
- 20:15and imagine. Imagine a friend unexpectedly
- 20:22arrives at the door gifting you a bottle of wine and feel how
- 20:27you would feel if you politely declined, had an alternative,
- 20:34and even if there was some leftover the next day you felt
- 20:39empowered by tipping it away. And if you could imagine what
- 20:44this would feel like in your own body from that first person
- 20:48perspective, let me know by nodding your head.
- 20:53That's it. I want you to get a good feeling
- 20:59that you know where the banana skins are now, you know where
- 21:03the snakes are, you know where the pitfalls are, and therefore
- 21:10you can elegantly sidestep them, leap over them and avoid them.
- 21:17Meaning it's now quicker than ever before to get to that
- 21:22desirable future on square 100, where you have exactly the
- 21:28relationship with alcohol that you want.
- 21:33And even if there's a snake that you haven't identified yet, it's
- 21:39fine to fall on it the first time, to go back a few steps,
- 21:48because it's not a loss if you learn.
- 21:53If you can extract the wisdom, then falling down makes you rise
- 22:00up stronger. I want you to feel that whatever
- 22:04happens now, so long as you learn from the past, you'll get
- 22:10to where you want to get to quicker than ever before.
- 22:15And that doesn't mean a future with no alcohol, just alcohol on
- 22:22your terms. Not because you have to have it
- 22:26or need it, only because you want it on your terms.
- 22:35And let's go to that square 100 and imagine what that would feel
- 22:39like. Perhaps two months, six months,
- 22:44even a year from now. Feel what it would feel like to
- 22:49have the exact relationship with alcohol that you would want.
- 22:55Even if someone bought a round, put it on your table.
- 23:01You could politely say no, Offer it to someone else.
- 23:06Even if someone tops up your glass, you don't have to drink
- 23:09it. If someone gifts you, either for
- 23:14dinner party or a birthday present, there's no obligation
- 23:20to consume it. And when you feel that the
- 23:24future is viable and desirable, let me know by nodding your
- 23:33head. That's it, and I want you to
- 23:37awaken all of those future resources now, even before you
- 23:43get there and as you look back from that future, realise you
- 23:48didn't need to be perfect and the occasional slip up on a
- 23:53banana skin actually enhanced your ability to move forward.
- 24:02Setbacks aren't a problem so long as you learn from them.
- 24:07And with that in mind, it's time to leave this imaginary snakes
- 24:12and ladders board and feel like you're returning to the present,
- 24:19but with now a subconscious X-ray vision of knowing where
- 24:23the pit falls, the snakes and the banana skins are, and any
- 24:30that are invisible. You don't mind falling so long
- 24:35as you get up quick and learn how to mitigate and avoid them
- 24:41in the future. It's time to leave this place to
- 24:46take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 24:51nose. Just wiggle your fingers, wiggle
- 24:54your toes, connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I
- 24:59now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 25:04Starting to count 123 waking up 456 more alert 7-8.
- 25:12Open your eyes, open your eyes, 910.
- 25:15Wide awake, wide awake, wide awake.
- 25:32Thank you so much for joining me on today's episode of The
- 25:36Hypnotist, and if you've enjoyed today's episode, I would
- 25:41encourage you, if you haven't already, to hit the subscribe
- 25:44button or follow button to make sure that you're automatically
- 25:49notified of any future episodes that I release.
- 25:54Also, by doing that, it lets the algorithm know that you like
- 25:58this show, and that will put it in front of even more people
- 26:01that might not know that this show exists.
- 26:04So that would be helpful for me. And if you like the stuff that I
- 26:08do, take a moment just to have a look in the show notes or the
- 26:11description because there's lots of free things that I have to
- 26:15offer, including free hypnosis downloads without the intro or
- 26:19the outro like I'm doing now. So thank you again for joining
- 26:22me on today's episode, and I'll see you again soon for the next
- 26:26one.
