- Jessica Figueroa: Hello, just for today, listeners. My name is Cindy, and today I am talking to you firstborn children. You know who you are. You were the firstborn in your family, which means from the time that you came out of your mother, you were told that everything you did was amazing. Your first step, the first sound that came out of your mouth, the first drawing you did, the first Lego thing you built. There was no shortage of people around to tell you how great you are. And that's wonderful. And that's why most of the presidents of the United States are firstborn children, because boy, does that build up some confidence. But what it also does is make you less, much less likely to be willing to fail. Because your models were adults versus younger siblings in the family modeled after their older siblings who they saw making mistakes all the time. So a younger sibling knows from a very young age that making mistakes is normal. And not only do they know this by being modeled by children rather than modeling their behavior after adults, like a firstborn can do, the youngest child was also constantly reminded that they're not good enough. Their older siblings were quick to tell them, your painting isn't that good. And while you walked, you've fallen down 10 times. And your play-doh creation, well, it sucks. And while this causes other issues, it builds a lot of resiliency. And children that had older siblings. So today's exercise, something we are all going to do just for today, is we're going to make mistakes. That's right. Make a mistake. Just go off and make a mistake. Don't edit the text. Let it go off with all the spelling mistakes. Don't look at the recipe. How many times have you made pancakes in your life? You know, you could just eyeball it. You could just take the pancake mix and just eyeball it, just with the water. The egg, I don't know, just wing it, see what happens. You know, what are you doing? Did you know you could run a load in the dishwasher and not put any soap in it? And I bet you the hot water is gonna be fine. It's gonna, it was good enough by the time you washed it and cleaned it and put it in the dishwasher was probably already good enough. How many dishwall, how many l laundry pods are you putting in the washing machine? Can you get by on one? Will you survive? Today we're gonna make some mistakes, okay? Because life is about making mistakes. And making mistakes is where we learn our limits. We learn we were good enough up until this point. This is where we have to grow. But avoiding mistakes or not making them is as bad as just closing the door to your bedroom and never coming out. So today we're gonna make mistakes. When I started this podcast, I sat down and I had no makeup on, no hair. And I was like, if I don't just start it right now, if I tell myself I have to go in and put some makeup on, if I go and do my hair, another month is gonna go by. Maybe that was a mistake. I don't know. But we have to be ready to make mistakes. So just for today, we are open and ready for all the mistakes the day has for us. And we're not gonna see them as hindrances. We're gonna see them as blessings because our mistakes is where all of the learning comes from. When you look back on the vacations you've had and the experiences you have. Every time there was a mistake in the plan, that's really what you remember when the car broke down or when this happened or when the hotel you reserved wasn't available. So you had to go driving around looking for them. Those are actually what make the memories. The mistakes are making up the joy in our life too. But if we spend so much time avoiding them, what are we missing out on? Because we're missing out on mistakes. So this one's harder for you, first porns, but I believe in you. You're still great and your finger painting is wall worthy, I promise. And for those of you who have two, three, four older siblings, you're good at this, but we're gonna do it anyways. We're gonna get out there and make some mistakes just for today.
