- 0:00Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:03access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing genuine
- 0:07issues. Brought to you by the
- 0:10hypnotherapist, demanded by celebrities, CEOs and even
- 0:14royalty. Adam Cox.
- 0:16These recordings took place live from Adam's clinic in London's
- 0:19world famous Harley Street. This podcast features powerful
- 0:23hypnosis, so do not listen while driving or operating machinery.
- 0:27This recording is not suitable for those with epilepsy or
- 0:30severe mental health issues, so get yourself comfortable and
- 0:34enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:42Hi, it's Adam here. And in this episode of The
- 0:45Hypnotist, you're going to be listening to a hypnosis session
- 0:49for a client that had a very specific habit that would.
- 0:53Happen at night. And it was normally when they
- 0:56were in a low mood, so feeling let's say not great, slightly
- 1:01depressed or just not in the best mood and they would do
- 1:05something to change their mood. It just wasn't the best way of
- 1:09changing. Their state.
- 1:11And when I asked the question to this client, what would have
- 1:15worked better to actually change their mood, they came up with
- 1:19some really good ideas about exercising or having a gratitude
- 1:24journal, changing their breathing, having a cold shower,
- 1:28things that actually would improve their mood much better
- 1:31than what they were doing. But they wanted to break that
- 1:35pattern. And sometimes it's useful to
- 1:38make a distinction between the intention, which is normally
- 1:41positive, and then the vehicle to meet that intention, which
- 1:45isn't always optimal. And for this client, the
- 1:48intention was to improve their mood, but the thing that they
- 1:50were doing wasn't really doing that.
- 1:52And actually it made them feel worse about themselves.
- 1:55So it wasn't even doing the job that it was designed to do.
- 1:59So in this hypnosis session, I actually use a metaphor of the
- 2:03Three Little Pigs. The Three Little Pigs is a fairy
- 2:07tale, like a children's story, but there's two key things
- 2:10there. All three of the pigs had the
- 2:12same intention, which. Was to.
- 2:15Have a house that protected them, but only one of.
- 2:18The three pigs, actually. Built a house that did that.
- 2:21Also the third pig that. Was quite smart.
- 2:24Would outmanoeuvre the wolf by pre empting them, anticipating
- 2:29their intention and then doing something different.
- 2:32To. Out manoeuvre and.
- 2:33Outplay. Outsmart.
- 2:35The wolf. So I use that as an analogy so
- 2:38that the client could figure out that yes, they have this
- 2:40intention and almost the wolf becomes that urge that they have
- 2:44to do something destructive, but to outmanoeuvre them by doing
- 2:48something that would actually meet the need in a more elegant
- 2:51way. I.
- 2:52Think. Anyone that has a habit?
- 2:55That they want to break will. Benefit from this, but in
- 2:58particular if it's a late night habit, then you'll get more
- 3:02value because that's. What the client?
- 3:04That I was working with, that's what they were dealing with.
- 3:08The ideal way for you to benefit from this is to find a nice,
- 3:11quiet, comfortable place where you won't be disturbed, relax
- 3:14and just enjoy the session. Take a deep breath in and as you
- 3:53breathe in, breathe in that slow, long relaxing breath and
- 4:02as you exhale, feel a sense of release and relief as it feels
- 4:09like any stress, tension and worries starting to leave your
- 4:16body in that outward breath. As you find yourself naturally
- 4:26breathing in, relaxation and exhaling tension with every
- 4:34breath taking you deeper and deeper, relaxed.
- 4:44As your body relaxes, your imagination awakens and I wonder
- 4:50if you can remember being a child and being read a bedtime
- 4:59story. Maybe you can use the power of
- 5:04your imagination to imagine being a child in that same bed
- 5:10being read a story of the Three Little Pigs, and I want you to
- 5:21think of that first pig, the stupid pig.
- 5:28Bad choices. They had the intention to
- 5:32shelter and protect, but the vehicle they used was a House of
- 5:37straw. It was a good intention, but an
- 5:42ineffective solution. And that pig got eaten.
- 5:50And there was another pig, another good intention.
- 5:57That intention was to keep themselves safe.
- 6:02But also the wrong tool, the wrong solution, the wrong
- 6:08materials also led to that pig's demise.
- 6:15But there was a pig in that story that had intelligence and
- 6:21foresight. And when the wolf would kind of
- 6:26trick, that pig was always one step ahead.
- 6:32Whatever time that arranged to meet the pig would have already
- 6:37done something in advance to do the thing, leaving that wolf
- 6:43high and dry. And that pig also had a
- 6:51wonderful intention to have a safe house.
- 6:59But that pig was willing to do a bit more work and to invest a
- 7:05bit more thought. And that pig found a good
- 7:12solution to a wonderful intention, and in doing so
- 7:22managed to outsmart the wolf. And I want you to think, think
- 7:31of the wolf as a part of you that is trying to trick you and
- 7:39to do something that doesn't align with your interests.
- 7:45Maybe it's hijacking a positive intention, but trying to
- 7:51encourage you to find a bad solution to that positive
- 7:57intention. And I want you to think.
- 8:03Think of the intention behind a particular behaviour.
- 8:08Maybe it's to improve your mood, maybe it's to make you feel
- 8:14better. I want you to get a sense that
- 8:19the intention itself is wonderful.
- 8:24Your unconscious mind is attempting to help you improve
- 8:35the quality of your emotions, your mood, and your life.
- 8:41And I want you to thank that part.
- 8:45Thank that part for giving you an insight, not just in terms of
- 8:55how you're feeling, but how you can solve that problem.
- 9:03But I want you to thank that part for the intention, not for
- 9:10the vehicle it's recommending, because I want you to think that
- 9:16if you were feeling in a low mood late at night, there would
- 9:24be so many other solutions to that problem.
- 9:32You could listen to a recording that immediately puts you in a
- 9:38different state, makes you feel a different way, and when you
- 9:44feel a different way, any urge to do something undesirable
- 9:54simply disappears. I want you to think of how good
- 10:03you felt in the past when you've been truly considerate and
- 10:09thoughtful and helpful for someone else, and if those times
- 10:17when you did those things and thought that way really did make
- 10:22you feel better. Let me know about nodding your
- 10:25head and if it made you feel better then it stands to reason
- 10:32it will also make you feel better in the future as you
- 10:39start to separate intention from execution.
- 10:47You can agree with the intention to change and improve your mood,
- 10:53but find a more elegant way of doing that.
- 10:59And maybe that is to be thoughtful and considerate and
- 11:04helpful. Maybe it's to learn one new
- 11:10thing that enhances your life. Maybe it's to do something
- 11:18physical. And maybe that's 5 or 10 minutes
- 11:24of exercise making you stronger, changing how you feel about
- 11:32yourself, giving you an opportunity to go beyond what
- 11:39you've done before. And I want you to imagine how
- 11:44you would feel if it was late at night.
- 11:49Just imagine doing some exercises and you get to decide
- 11:54if you think this would make you feel better.
- 12:00Maybe it would make you feel stronger, accomplished,
- 12:04energized or something else. Or maybe you would take a
- 12:13shower, hot or cold, just to break you out of that temporary
- 12:21emotional mood, giving you a different feeling.
- 12:26And don't be surprised if that new feeling enables you to go
- 12:34back to bed, sleep deeply in a way where you feel much better
- 12:43about yourself. Or maybe, maybe it's an
- 12:51opportunity if you wake up in the middle of the night feeling
- 12:58in a particular mood of some kind.
- 13:03What if this was an opportunity to train your body in your
- 13:08diaphragm to breathe differently?
- 13:13Long breaths in, retaining the breath and feeling on the
- 13:20outward breath, you're releasing any of those unhelpful emotions,
- 13:27and then retaining that breath when there's nothing in your
- 13:31lungs activates the diaphragm so that the next breath in is even
- 13:37deeper than the last. I want you to imagine if 30 or
- 13:4740 long deep breaths would change your mood.
- 13:52And each time those breaths get longer and deeper.
- 14:00Imagine your cortisol levels going down and your oxytocin and
- 14:05serotonin increasing. That simply by breathing
- 14:10differently you can release stress and anxiety and activate
- 14:16those feel good hormones. Or maybe you decide to reflect
- 14:25on the day, any frustrations, annoyances, get them out of your
- 14:34head, into somewhere different, on a screen, on a piece of
- 14:38paper. But then command your mind to
- 14:46focus on what you're truly grateful for.
- 14:51And maybe that's qualities that you admire in yourself.
- 14:58Maybe it's things that are healthy in you, but aren't
- 15:02necessarily healthy in all people of your age.
- 15:08Maybe it's the people in your life.
- 15:14There will be a day that comes when none of us are here.
- 15:22Isn't it a good idea to be grateful for those people that
- 15:25positively impact your life while they are?
- 15:32Or perhaps, perhaps it's your cognitive powers to create
- 15:39ideas, to think of things differently.
- 15:44Maybe it's a moment, an experience.
- 15:49I want you to get a sense that there is infinite things to be
- 15:51grateful for, and by training your brain and your mind to hone
- 15:58in on what you are grateful for, you increase those wonderful
- 16:06feelings, enabling you to successfully improve your mood.
- 16:19I want you to think of this as having so many options to
- 16:23improve your mood, and what previously was the first choice
- 16:30is now falling down a hierarchy so it's not even on the list.
- 16:38Because there are so many more elegant, effective ways to meet
- 16:45that need that actually do the job properly.
- 16:55In any other area of your life, if you bought something to do
- 17:03something and it didn't do it, you would stop using that thing.
- 17:12A hammer that can never hammer a nail.
- 17:18Why would you continue to use the hammer if it can't do the
- 17:24job that you bought it to do? And I want you to reflect that
- 17:31for so long now you've been using a vehicle to get you to a
- 17:36destination, but it's been breaking down on every journey.
- 17:42It's not getting you to the place you wanted it to.
- 17:45And if you're ready to let go of that vehicle and to consider
- 17:53using vehicles that will be more useful, let me know by nodding
- 17:57your head. And the next time you feel a
- 18:02particular. Urge related.
- 18:03To a mood. You'll smile just like that
- 18:08intelligent little pig. You will have things planned in
- 18:13advance. You will outsmart and
- 18:17outmanoeuvre the wolf. So when it comes knocking,
- 18:21you're already prepared. And if you have an idea of what
- 18:26you will do when that moment comes, let me know by nodding
- 18:30your head. That's it.
- 18:35Because you can either outsmart the wolf or be eaten by the
- 18:39wolf. The choice is yours.
- 18:46It's time to leave this place with a clear intention to do
- 18:51something now or in the future when the time arises to make it
- 18:56empowering for you to rewire your brain in new useful ways
- 19:04that are helpful now, but also build new habits that enhance
- 19:10the quality of your life. So take a deep breath in through
- 19:15your nose and out through your nose.
- 19:21Just wiggle your fingers and wiggle your toes, let's say.
- 19:24Connect and calibrate into the here and the now as I now count
- 19:29from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 19:33Starting to count 123 waking up 456 more alert 7-8.
- 19:41Open your eyes. Open your eyes 910.
- 19:44Wide awake. Wide awake.
- 19:47Wide awake. Thank you for listening to The
