- 0:01SPEAKER_01: Welcome to my sexy menopause body.
- 0:05SPEAKER_01: It's a podcast.
- 0:07SPEAKER_01: Menopause isn't something to own.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: It's something to own with strength, confidence.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: Yes, sexiness.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: Because menopause doesn't mean anything into the background.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: It means stepping fully into who we are.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: And now here's your host, Kim Nicholson.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Let's get started.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to this podcast of My Sexy Menopause Body.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Got a great show for you today, because today we're going to be talking about the biggest, fattest lies out there about aging.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: So let's start right now with the first lie.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: The one that we have been sold over and over and over again is that anti-aging industry is a billion-dollar machine because it's built on fear.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: It tells us every little wrinkle, every little gray hair on our head, every shift in our body is something to fight against, something to be ashamed of.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Well, they make us believe that way only to age well is to buy their latest cream supplement or procedure.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: So they tell they give us this fear, and yet they say, but we've got this incredible product that will help you age well.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Well, let me tell you something, anti-aging industry.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: Aging isn't the problem.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: The problem is how we've been conditioned to fear it instead of embracing it.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: So the problem here is we have been taught to shrink ourselves, to slow down, and to quietly fade into the background as we get older.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: And I don't know about you, but I am not subscribing to that story.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Not at all.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Now that's the first lie.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Here's lie number two.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: And the second lie is even more dangerous than the first lie.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: The second one is the one that isn't coming from a commercial or a beauty ad.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: It's coming from you.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: You know the one.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: You know the one.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: That little voice that whispers, well, I'm just getting old.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: Or the one that justifies my aches and pains is, well, it's a part of aging.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: The one that says, you know, I really can't do that anymore.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: I'm too old.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: The one that convinces you to sit down, slow down, and stop trying.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Here's the truth.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: You need to hear today.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: This is the truth because you are in control of how you age.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Did you hear that?
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: You are in control of how you age.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Aging isn't just something that, I don't know, happens to you every day.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: It's something that you create through the choices you make every single day.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: So I want to pause for a second and I want you to really sit with this.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: The way you age is built on your small everyday choices.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: What you put in your body, how you move your body, the thoughts you think about you and your body, the stories you tell yourself, all these matter.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Because here's the good news: no matter where you are today, you can change the trajectory of your health.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: That's amazing.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Sit with that for a second.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: Maybe you haven't always taken the best care of your body.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Maybe you spent years believing that slowing down was inevitable.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: But right now, in this moment, you get to rewrite that story.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Your body only does what you tell it to do, what you push it to do, what you feed it, and what you think about it.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: So let me ask you a question.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: What's the story you've been telling yourself about aging?
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: And more importantly, is it serving you or is it holding you back?
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Think about that one.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: So I want you to imagine this.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Imagine a world in where 80-year-olds and 90-year-olds and even a hundred that were not seen as fragile, but as strong individuals, strong women, where it wasn't shocking to see an older woman lifting weights or running a marathon, or even like mastering a new skill, or even getting out there and playing pickleball, although they've never played pickleball in their life.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Where being vibrant, active, and confident in your body wasn't just defying the odds, it's the norm.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: Wouldn't that be great?
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: That world isn't a fantasy, it's a choice.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And you right now have the power to step into that world.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: And that's exactly what we're going to talk about today.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: How to build strength, resilience, and vitality at any age with just four simple game-changing steps.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: Okay, so what I want to do is walk through each one of these steps for you or with you.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: And it's basically how to get back your control, how to control how you age.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: So let's get right into it.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Step number one, you can start right now today.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: Walking.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Walk it you can build up to this.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Walk 45 minutes at a brisk pace five times a week.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Now, let's start.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: That may be too much, especially if you've been a couch potato for the last several years.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: So let's start off slowly.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Let's say you go outside today and you walk, I don't know, 20 minutes.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: And then tomorrow get those sneakers on and you walk another 25 minutes.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: By the end of the week, you can make 45 minutes.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Now, why 45 minutes?
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Well, what we're really looking for is for you, anybody 60 and over, to at least get anywhere between 6 and 8,000 steps in a day.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: And depending on your size, your height, your stride, I mean, that could be around 7,000 steps.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: For me, it's about 7,000 steps, maybe give or take a little bit.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: But starting off with 45 minutes.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Now, if you can go beyond that, that's awesome.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Now, let's talk about the second part of that, which is a brisk pace.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Now, I'm not just talking, I I go out and I have walks with my mom and we stop and we talk about somebody's gardening in the front yard or the beautiful flowers they have in their flower pots, or oh look, they got new drapes up, things like that.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: I mean, that serves a place in our lives.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: But when you're talking about fitness and controlling how you age, I need you to feel the workout.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: I need you to feel your breath.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: I need you to feel your heart pumping, and I need you to feel your muscles working.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: So walking at a brisk pace.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: So what does that mean?
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: On a scale of zero to ten, zero would be laying on the sofa watching home and garden TV.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Ten would be running a marathon at top speed.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: So we don't want to be zero and we don't want to be ten.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Where we want to start off is maybe about a four or five, but a brisk walk would be around a six or a seven or even an eight.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: So I know you'll know, your body will know.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: And here's I'm gonna tell you a little secret about walking.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: When your body knows that you've hit that kind of like that rate of perceived exertion level around seven, is all of a sudden your mouth will drop open and you'll start to breathe in and out.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: You probably inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth, but your mouth will drop open because your body needs more oxygen, so it's kind of your body's way in saying, Okay, I've got this, I need more oxygen.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: So, step one, let's try to walk for 45 minutes at a brisk pace, and let's go for four to five times a week.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Remember, movement is medicine.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: What and walking is one of the most powerful tools for longevity.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Yet we often underestimate it.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: It what by walking, it improves your circulation, it keeps your joints mobile, and it also boosts your metabolism, and it even sharpens your brain, your cognitive function.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: So it's not just about your body, it's about reminding your mind that you are still engaged in your life.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: So, like I said, start where you are.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Let's start with maybe 15 minutes today, maybe it's 30, but the goal is to move more today than you did yesterday.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: And if you've missed it, if you missed one of my social media posts where I, you know, I love studying the uh blue zones, you know, that's where the centenarians live a healthy life until they're a hundred or more.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: And if you think about it, the number one form of exercise each one of them have is walking or swimming.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: You never see them going to the gym, even though I have nothing against the gym.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: I love the gym.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: I have a home gym, but it's walking, it's walking every single day, or at least six out of seven days.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go on to the step number two.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: It's lifting weights at least three times a week.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Muscle is your greatest anti-aging tool.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: So forget those expensive creams.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: When we lose muscle, which we do, we lose our independence, we also lose our confidence.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: But the moment you start lifting weights, your body responds, your bones get stronger, your metabolism speeds up, and your energy soars through the roof.
- 10:12SPEAKER_00: And here's the best part your muscles don't care how old you are, they will grow if you give them the chance.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: So let me ask you this when was the last time you felt physically strong?
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: Hmm.
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: What would it feel like to get that strength back?
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: So, what I want you to do today is to start small, you know, with some body exercises, resistant bands, or light dumbbells, because the key is to challenge yourself.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: And you don't need to join the gym to do this.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: So I do have, if you want to go to kimnick.com, I do have exercises on my site that will get you started off on the right foot and arm and abs and core, all of it.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: All right, so we're gonna try, we're going to start lifting weights, at least start off one time a week, but work up to two to three times a week.
- 11:13SPEAKER_00: All right, step number three is we want to train your balance and coordination.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Because let's be real, falls are one of the biggest risks we have as we age, but they're not inevitable.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: Balance is something you can train just like strength.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: If you want to stay independent and if you want to keep moving with confidence, this is non-negotiable, and there's simple exercises you can do.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: Yoga is one of them.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: Yoga is an incredible exercise for not only stretching and strengthening your muscles, but for coordination and balance.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: So, and I again I've got wonderful programs for anyone over 55 on yoga, Pilates, and strength training.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: But you can also find them all over social media.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: But make sure they come from a credible source.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: You want to make sure that somebody is actually a certified trainer.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: All right, and my step four for you is to stretch and of course hydrate like it's your job, because a stiff body, as we age faster, hydration and mobility are your secret weapons against stiffness.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: So joint pain and injury, think of your body like a like a car, I guess.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: If you never oil it, if you never maintain it, these things start to break down.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: But again, the good news is a well-care body can run for a lifetime, an extended lifetime.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: So my challenge for you is to dedicate five to ten minutes every single day, every single day to stretching.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: Believe me, your body will adjust and adapt, and your future self will thank you.
- 13:02SPEAKER_00: It's very simple to stretch, and you will feel so much better.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: So I want to leave you with this today.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: So remember, aging is a problem to fix, it's a reality to embrace with strength and with movement and with confidence.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Your body is so capable of growing and of building and of thriving, but it will only give back what you put in.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: So I've got one more question for you before I end today.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: What is your one small step you can take today to shift the way you're aging?
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: I gave you four.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Now, again, if today's episode, you know, meant something to you or shook something up inside of you, here's what I want you to do.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: Pick one of the steps from the protocol above and start today.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: Just start with one.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: Whether it's the walking strength training or the stretching, I just want you to start with one today because these small steps create momentum.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: And it's the momentum that really changes everything.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: And if you're ready to go deeper, you can download my protein-powered strength guide on my website.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: I've got a ton of freebies for you.

- 14:44SPEAKER_00: All right, so remember until next time, sexy doesn't expire.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: You define it.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: It's a whole new beginning.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: This is your time to own your power.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: Rewrite the rules and show up unapologetically because sexy doesn't fire.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: You find it.
