- 0:01Good morning everyone. Welcome back to unlocking the
- 0:03Paradigm portal. My name is Sarah.
- 0:05As promised, I am dropping an episode every single day this
- 0:09week. So Monday we talked about the
- 0:11unworthy wound, the one that took your matches, yesterday was
- 0:15the unlovable wound, the one that took your hearth, and today
- 0:18is the unsafe wound. And I'm going to spend a little
- 0:21more time naming this one because this isn't just some
- 0:24people's wound. This is everyone's wound.
- 0:27Every single person listening right now is carrying some
- 0:30version of this. The only difference is how loud
- 0:33it is, when it formed, and how long it's been running the show.
- 0:37Same promise as yesterday, though.
- 0:39We're naming it. We're not moving in because
- 0:42what's underneath is where I actually want to take you.
- 0:45So here's the first thing I want you to understand about the
- 0:48unsafe wound. It doesn't only form in
- 0:50childhood. It doesn't require a difficult
- 0:52upbringing or a dramatic origin story.
- 0:55It forms any time, at any age, at any stage in life when
- 0:59something happens to make your nervous system decide the ground
- 1:03shifts without warning. I cannot afford to be caught off
- 1:06guard again. Maybe it was childhood, an
- 1:09unpredictable home, a parent whose emotional temperature you
- 1:12learn to read before you could read words, Love that was warm 1
- 1:16moment and withdrawn the next, with no pattern to tell you
- 1:19which one was coming. Maybe it was a relationship that
- 1:23rewired you, one that started safe and became something else,
- 1:28that that taught your body, not your mind, your body, that
- 1:32people you trust can become people you don't recognize, and
- 1:35that by the time you figure it out, it might be too late.
- 1:39Maybe it was a loss, a diagnosis, a financial collapse,
- 1:43A betrayal, a season of life where everything you thought was
- 1:46solid turned out not to be and your nervous system took notes.
- 1:52Maybe it was the slow accumulation of a world that
- 1:54kept showing you through disappointment after
- 1:57disappointment, through systems that failed you, through people
- 2:01who let you down. That safety is not something you
- 2:04can count on. It honestly doesn't matter when
- 2:07it happened or how it happened. What matters is what the nervous
- 2:11system learned from it. Stay on all the way on all the
- 2:15time. Scan the room before you've said
- 2:17a word. Read the energy before anyone
- 2:19has spoken. Anticipate 12 steps ahead, not
- 2:23because you're a planner, but because staying ahead of what
- 2:26might happen feels like the only form of control available.
- 2:31And then something genuinely good happens.
- 2:34A quiet season, a safe relationship.
- 2:37A Tuesday with nothing actually wrong.
- 2:41And your body softens. The guard comes down and
- 2:44something in your chest unclenches, and then the nervous
- 2:48system panics at its own softness and it double s down.
- 2:52It finds the thing to worry about.
- 2:55It manufacturers threat where there isn't 1, because at least
- 2:58threat is familiar. At least scanning feels like
- 3:01control. You couldn't just enjoy the good
- 3:04thing, and you've never quite understood why.
- 3:08That's the unsafe wound. That's what it looks like.
- 3:11And that nervous system that built it, It wasn't broken.
- 3:15It was brilliant. It kept you safe when safe was
- 3:19not guaranteed. It just never got the memo that
- 3:22the war is over and now we're done talking about it.
- 3:25Because here's what I actually want you to think about today.
- 3:29Before the unsafe wound needed to exist.
- 3:32Before whatever happened that made your nervous system decide
- 3:35the guard needed to stay up. That part of you didn't scan.
- 3:40It didn't read the room before deciding whether to be fully
- 3:43present. It didn't brace for the shift
- 3:46before anyone had indicated one was coming.
- 3:48It didn't manufacture worry in the middle of a good thing just
- 3:52to feel like it had some control over what happened next.
- 3:55It just showed up fully in the moment, in the warmth of
- 3:59whatever was good right now, without immediately calculating
- 4:03how long it would last or what would happen when it ended.
- 4:07It sat by the fire and expected to be warm and it let people sit
- 4:12close without doing a threat assessment 1st.
- 4:15And it rested. Like actually rested, not just
- 4:19stop moving inside its own skin. And it wanted company,
- 4:24genuinely, openly, without the walls and the drawbridge and the
- 4:29pre emptive defense system. It wanted someone to come sit by
- 4:33the fire and tell stories in the firelight, and it wanted to
- 4:37share the warmth without spending the whole time watching
- 4:40to make sure nobody picked up a bucket.
- 4:43Do you remember that? Even a flicker of it.
- 4:47A moment where you were fully present in something good
- 4:51without one part of your brain monitoring the exits.
- 4:55Maybe it was before whatever happened that formed the wound.
- 4:58Maybe it shows up in rare moments even now, like a flash
- 5:03of genuine ease or a second of real presence before the
- 5:06scanning kicks back in. That's not a fantasy.
- 5:10That's who you actually are underneath the wound.
- 5:13That's the part of you, the unsafe wound, buried under the
- 5:17exhausting, relentless work of staying ready for something that
- 5:21isn't coming anymore. So the wound took your ease,
- 5:26your ability to be fully here without one eye on what's next.
- 5:31And that part of you has been wanting to put the bucket watch
- 5:34down for a very long time, so that part of you knew something
- 5:40the wound has been drowning out ever since.
- 5:42The fire doesn't need a defense system, it needs tending.
- 5:47There's a difference between the two, and it's everything.
- 5:50Defending means standing between the fire and the world, arms
- 5:54out, eyes scanning, never actually sitting next to it.
- 5:58Tending means being close enough to feel the heat, to add a log
- 6:02when it needs one, to let it warm you when you are warming
- 6:06it. The unsafe wound turned you into
- 6:10a defender, and defenders are cold, and not because the fire
- 6:14isn't burning, it is, but because you've been so focused
- 6:18on protecting it from everyone else that you forgot to let it
- 6:21do what the fire is actually for.
- 6:25What would it feel like to sit down next to it?
- 6:28Not stand guard over it, Just sit next to it.
- 6:32Let it warm you. Let someone you trust pull their
- 6:35chair close, let the good thing just be without immediately
- 6:41bracing for when it ends? What would you do today if your
- 6:45nervous system wasn't spending half its energy scanning for
- 6:49what's wrong? And what have you been missing
- 6:52because you were too busy watching the perimeter to notice
- 6:55what was right in front of you? To that part of you, the one
- 6:59that sat by the fire and just let itself be warm, that's not
- 7:02gone. It's been in there this whole
- 7:05time, arms wrapped around its knees, wanting someone safe to
- 7:09come and stay. And it built walls, but it never
- 7:13stopped wanting the company. So how do you come back?
- 7:18That's the big question. You start by giving your nervous
- 7:21system evidence. Not arguments.
- 7:24Evidence. The nervous system doesn't
- 7:26respond to logic. It responds to experience.
- 7:29Repeated, consistent felt experience that the threat isn't
- 7:33coming. So the next time your body
- 7:36softens, the next time the guard comes down and something in you
- 7:40unclenches, don't immediately fill the space with worry.
- 7:44I know that's a big ask. Just notice it, OK?
- 7:48Put your hand on your chest and say this is what safe feels like
- 7:53right now, in this moment, I am OK.
- 7:56The mantra that I use when this one comes up, I put my hands on
- 8:00my chest and I close my eyes and I breathe and I say I'm scared
- 8:04and I'm safe. I'm scared and I am safe.
- 8:08And you don't have to do this forever.
- 8:10It's not a guarantee about tomorrow or next week or what
- 8:12happens when this good thing eventually changes.
- 8:15Just right now, this moment, nothing is wrong.
- 8:19And let that land for 30 seconds before the scanning starts back
- 8:23up. That's it. 30 seconds of just
- 8:26being here, warm, present, not watching the perimeter.
- 8:31Do that enough times and the nervous system starts to build a
- 8:34new file. Safety exists.
- 8:37Good things last. Sometimes the ground doesn't
- 8:40always shift. And when it does, I have
- 8:44survived it before, and I Will Survive it again.
- 8:48But right now it is not shifting.
- 8:51Right now I am OK. And then slowly, with people who
- 8:56have earned it, let someone sit closer to the fire.
- 9:01Not everyone, and not all at once.
- 9:03The discernment you developed from reading rooms and scanning
- 9:07for threat? That's actually a gift.
- 9:09So use it wisely. Find the people who have shown
- 9:13up consistently, who have sat near your fire before and never
- 9:17once reached for the bucket, who were there before the wound
- 9:21form, or who have proven themselves safe since, and let
- 9:26them in. A little closer than yesterday,
- 9:28a little more present than last time, a little less defended,
- 9:32and a little more warm. So the wound taught you that the
- 9:35only safe fire is a defended 1. The reclamation is learning that
- 9:40the right people sitting close to it don't put it out.
- 9:44They make it burn brighter. So the unsafe wound didn't make
- 9:49you broken. It made you extraordinarily
- 9:51perceptive, deeply attuned, someone who can feel the shift
- 9:56in a room before anyone else has registered it.
- 9:59Those are real gifts, and keep them.
- 10:02But you don't have to be on duty every moment of every day.
- 10:07Whatever form this wound, whenever it happened, however it
- 10:10landed in your body, that season is not this season.
- 10:15And that part of you that's been sitting by the fire alone,
- 10:18wanting company, building walls while quietly hoping someone
- 10:21safe would find their way through, it's freaking exhausted
- 10:25and it's ready. So sit down next to your own
- 10:28fire and let it warm you. Give your nervous system 30
- 10:33seconds of just I'm here, I'm safe, I'm warm, I'm present.
- 10:38And then let one person pull their chair just a little bit
- 10:42closer. The drawbridge doesn't have to
- 10:44come all the way down today. It just has to come down a tiny
- 10:48little bit. So as always, keep kicking ass.
- 10:53Enjoy your Wednesday. I'm off today and I will be back
- 10:57tomorrow for another one. Like share, subscribe, hype,
- 11:00whatever. All the things just keep coming
- 11:02back. Keep tending your fire, keep
- 11:04growing. I will see you tomorrow.
