Latest / Blush / The Kendall Jenner Diet: Recipes Inspired by How the Supermodel Eats
Transcript
- 0:00A few years ago, I was listening to a podcast and they were
- 0:02discussing Matt Gala looks and they said that Kendall Jenner
- 0:05was their best dressed of that year.
- 0:07And then one of the hosts stopped and she said, well, is
- 0:11Kendall truly the best dressed? Or is it just like Kendall looks
- 0:15like Kendall and therefore anything she wears looks good on
- 0:19her? And I really haven't been able
- 0:21to stop thinking about this. And unfortunately for me, I will
- 0:25never look like Kendall. Like I just didn't win the
- 0:27genetic lottery like that. But I I do think that we can all
- 0:32get closer to the supermodel version of ourselves, and I've
- 0:37designed a menu here today that I think can help get all of us
- 0:41closer to that. So let's get into it.
- 0:52OK, the very first thing we're going to do is a drink, and I
- 0:55will say the connection to Kendall is tenuous with this,
- 1:00but I do think that this is kind of a supermodel drink.
- 1:03So basically it's a hibiscus refresher, we'll call it.
- 1:06It's warming up. I feel like we need some new
- 1:09cool drinks. Am I cool?
- 1:11I mean, cool temperature, not cool isn't like hip and cool
- 1:15'cause that I am not. But this, I think will be
- 1:18phenomenal on a hot day. It's phenomenal on a spring day
- 1:22and it's so good for your skin and for bloating.
- 1:26So it's very simple. I just steeped some dried
- 1:30hibiscus with some dried orange feel.
- 1:32You can emit the orange feel if you don't want to use it.
- 1:35It's not a crisis. You also could add ginger.
- 1:37I think that would be lovely. Or you can just do plain
- 1:39hibiscus. It's fine.
- 1:40So I just made the tea. We're just pouring that in and
- 1:45we're going to do about half hibiscus tea and about half
- 1:51coconut water, and that's it. If you want it sweeter, do more
- 1:56coconut water, less hibiscus. If you want it more tart, do
- 2:03less coconut water, more hibiscus.
- 2:05Now, I'm going to add an edible flour to this only because I
- 2:09want to 'cause you look cutie, 'cause you look so cute like
- 2:13that. Look at that.
- 2:15Look at my little hearts on my manicure.
- 2:18Cute petute. I'm going to drink it, and then
- 2:20we're going to do the rest of the shit that we're going to do.
- 2:22Oh, by the way, there's a pot of water boiling, so yeah, yeah,
- 2:27OK, let's drink her. Delicious.
- 2:32Now, I could go a little heavier on the hibiscus personally, but
- 2:36just crushing my flour in the process and honestly, a little
- 2:41ice would have been very nice in there.
- 2:43Also, a little yuzu juice is very nice in there Also, if you
- 2:47want to make it creamy, a little smash of the Eden food, soy
- 2:50milk. Delicious, beautiful.
- 2:52OK, let's get into all the recipes, shall we?
- 2:55OK, we're going to start by chopping an onion, dicing,
- 2:59slicing, whatever. It really doesn't fucking
- 3:02matter. I have a Vidalia onion.
- 3:04I would pretty emphatically encourage you to use a Vidalia
- 3:09onion if you can for this. If it's not an option, just
- 3:13whatever kind of like whatever is labeled as a sweet onion
- 3:17would be the best. OK, that's it.
- 3:20Nothing else to say on this subject.
- 3:22So we're making three things today.
- 3:25The drink, which is already done, it's already made and we
- 3:28are in the process of drinking it.
- 3:30We're making a cucumber salad, obviously because of, you know,
- 3:36you know, if you don't know. There was a whole moment on the
- 3:38Kardashians where Kendall tried to chop a cucumber.
- 3:42She was not very good at it, and it went really viral.
- 3:46I really have not watched Keeping Up other than back in
- 3:49the day, once in a while I'd be at my brother's apartment and
- 3:53Keeping Up would be on. So I've seen a bit here and
- 3:57there, and then at my nail salon, they play Keeping Up
- 4:04reruns in the background. And when I was getting this
- 4:08manicure, this one right here, Yes.
- 4:10Check her out. I really was kind of transfixed
- 4:14by that episode of the Kardashians that was playing.
- 4:17And Kendall, like, what a cutie patootie.
- 4:19I love her. But, yeah, I don't have, like, a
- 4:22ton of experience watching the Kardashians.
- 4:24Nevertheless, I really like them.
- 4:26I find it interesting how much hate they get.
- 4:29Anyway, we're just chopping up this onion.
- 4:32Oh, so any did I finish out what we're doing this for?
- 4:34So we're using the onion to make this pasta dish that is inspired
- 4:43by a pasta dish that Kendall says that she makes and she says
- 4:47it's really good. So we're making our own version
- 4:51that's going to be vegan and a little more blush coated, just
- 4:56like a little more protein packed into it, a little more
- 4:59fiber packed into it. And honestly, dare I say I think
- 5:05my version's going to be better than hers.
- 5:07But who knows? I mean, we'll, we'll never know.
- 5:09It's not like she's going to come and we're going to do our
- 5:12Bobby Flay moment together. So we'll really never know.
- 5:16You're just going to have to take my word for it, aren't you?
- 5:18Oh, I think the water is boiling.
- 5:20OK, I'm going to go check on that.
- 5:21I'll see you in a SEC. Book time, 12 minutes.
- 5:29OK, We have fettuccine in the pot and we're going to start
- 5:35this guy. Say a little, OK, we're just
- 5:43going to grease this a little bit and I'm going to add my
- 5:46Vidalia and we're going to saute it.
- 5:49And then eventually I'm going to move it to the stove and get it
- 5:53out of the way. And we're going to work on our
- 5:54cucumber salad and then we'll bring it back and we'll assemble
- 5:58the whole pasta dish. Probably should have waited
- 6:02until this was a bit hotter, but it's really not a crisis.
- 6:07So Kendall's fettuccine dish is onion, green peas, parmesan,
- 6:14garlic and lemon. And so we're going to do a play
- 6:19on that. It's going to be pretty close
- 6:21but slightly different. Do you know that in Spanish they
- 6:28call hibiscus Jamaica? Is that true?
- 6:34I feel like it's it's something like that.
- 6:36I guess J is pronounced like a ha, like an H sound.
- 6:42I don't know, I'll look it up. Just fun things for us to talk
- 6:46about while I do this. I love the sound of an onion
- 6:56sizzling. OK, I think I'm ready to move
- 7:00this to the back. Once the onions caramelize,
- 7:03we'll bring it back and we'll revisit the whole thing more.
- 7:07Dummy. Anna, love it.
- 7:10It's so gross. OK, I have drained the pasta.
- 7:19Why does that sound so weird? I've whatever.
- 7:22I've taken the pasta out of the water and the onions are still
- 7:27going. So we're going to work on our
- 7:29cucumber salad. So we're going to make some very
- 7:32fine cucumber ribbons using a mandolin.
- 7:35And this can be a tip for Miss Kendall.
- 7:39You don't even have to use a knife.
- 7:40Use one of these. But I beg you, I implore you, I
- 7:44emphatically recommend that you use these mesh gloves because
- 7:50based on what I've seen of your cutting skills, I do think you
- 7:55might slice a finger off if you try to do this without.
- 7:59But honestly, so would I. I'm an incredibly clumsy person.
- 8:02I walked into a door today for no reason.
- 8:06The door was just there, just walked.
- 8:09When I turn corners, I either turn them too sharp or not sharp
- 8:13enough and tend to have a catastrophe often.
- 8:16The apartment that I lived in in DC, it had a long hallway that
- 8:20curved, and when I tell you every single day without fail,
- 8:25when that hallway would curve, I wouldn't curve quite enough and
- 8:30I would just walk into the wall. I don't know what it is.
- 8:33Maybe it's an inner ear problem. I actually sometimes suspect
- 8:37that I might have Vertigo, which could explain why I'm so afraid
- 8:41of heights. I don't know, just things to
- 8:43think about. Anyway, we're going to make a
- 8:45bunch of these fucking care. Cucumber ribbons, not carrot.
- 8:48Whoops. Wait also, and I want to share 2
- 8:52random tips that are both kind of, well, I guess they're not
- 8:56really mindfulness related, but one I saw in a TikTok and this
- 9:00is if you're like stressed, anxious, whatever feeling some
- 9:03kind of way you should try this And I've tried it and it's
- 9:07actually insane. Hold on, I'm going to check on
- 9:10this real quick. OK, So what you do is you need 2
- 9:15pieces of paper or two pads of paper or whatever, and you need
- 9:172 pens or pencils and two hands. So you know, most of us have the
- 9:23last one, but not everyone. So I just want to acknowledge
- 9:26that this isn't for everyone. So you take a pen in each hand
- 9:31and with your right hand you write letters and with your left
- 9:35hand you write numbers. Simultaneously.
- 9:39You will not be able to think about anything other than what
- 9:43you're doing because it's so fucking hard.
- 9:45All of your attention will go to that and like, goodbye problems,
- 9:49see you later. Wish I knew about this when I
- 9:52went through my really shitty breakup with my ex with a micro
- 9:56penis because yeah, really couldn't stop thinking about
- 10:00that. OK, let's make her cucumber
- 10:02salad, shall we? OK, the cucumber salad is quite
- 10:05simple, as they often are. So we're starting with our yuzu
- 10:08sauce. This is the same yuzu sauce that
- 10:11we used in the Posh Spice episode.
- 10:16So as a reminder, the ingredients were half a cup of
- 10:23yuzu juice, 2/3 of a cup of pitted medjool dates.
- 10:27I used about 7 big juicy ones, 1/4 cup of low sodium soy sauce
- 10:32or tamari, one clove of garlic, 3 tablespoons white miso, 1/4
- 10:38cup of sesame oil, a little squirt of sunflower lecithin,
- 10:43and 1/4 cup of water. Blend until super smooth.
- 10:46That's it. So we're just going to put that
- 10:48down on the platter and then just kind of like schlep these
- 10:53cucumber ribbons all over. That's my vision.
- 10:58Wow, that really looks like shit.
- 10:59Great. So don't do it like that.
- 11:01Maybe let me just, like, throw these down.
- 11:05Let's see what happens. It's getting better, I think.
- 11:12OK, whatever. We're going to add some herbs
- 11:14and stuff on top, so hopefully it won't stay quite as chaotic.
- 11:21Yeah. OK, We're going to need to style
- 11:23this. I'm going to go give the onions
- 11:25another spin. Oh, by the way, I forgot to
- 11:28mention save the pasta water. We're going to use it.
- 11:32OK, I'm going to go give the onions a spin and then let's
- 11:34style this so it looks less like this and looks better getting
- 11:41there. OK, so we're not a few things on
- 11:44top. One is just some dried seaweed
- 11:48flakes. Oh yeah, that looks really good
- 11:51actually. Already so much better.
- 11:57We're definitely going to do some crystallized show you some
- 12:04dried miso, little splash of extra toasted sesame oil.
- 12:14OK, I'm actually obsessed with how this looks.
- 12:19And then I have some flowering cilantro.
- 12:24The flavor of this is a little bit different.
- 12:27It's a little bit more intense and more coriander ish.
- 12:31And for our international viewers, I know in I think most
- 12:37of the English speaking world, you guys just call cilantro
- 12:43coriander. So this might be confusing to
- 12:45you. In America we call this seeds
- 12:47coriander and the leaves cilantro.
- 12:52So while they have a similar flavor they are slightly
- 12:56different. My farmers market calls it
- 12:58confetti. Cilantro has a slightly more
- 13:02coriander ish flavor to it. OK good chat.
- 13:07I'll grab some of the visible flowers and add them on top
- 13:10also. Or just throw them everywhere,
- 13:13who knows there. I actually think that looks
- 13:17really good. I've I've gone off for sure.
- 13:33No, that's for sure gone off. I think I should rinse my mouth
- 13:37out. OK, it's pasta time.
- 13:41So our onions are looking pretty good.
- 13:44Pretty good. We're going to add green peas.
- 13:49I bought 3 packets because I just wasn't sure how much we're
- 13:54going to use. Now Kendall's version she says
- 13:57she makes with Frozen, but they're literally in season
- 14:01right now. So we're going to use fresh and
- 14:03I'm learning from my onion mistake testing to see if the
- 14:07pan is hot and there we go. Is it crazy if I do a bit more
- 14:15crazy for my summer house? People remember when Jesse
- 14:20invited that girl and she's like, you want to hear something
- 14:23crazy? And he's like, yeah.
- 14:24And she goes, there's a bug in my drink, but I'm drinking it
- 14:27anyway. And he goes, wow, that is crazy.
- 14:30Now it's funny because she was. I will give him being a little
- 14:35annoying, but also Jesse, in my opinion, has this slightly
- 14:42misogynistic thing with women where I think judges them on
- 14:49their intellect based on how like bubbly and sweet they
- 14:53present themselves, if that makes sense, I don't know.
- 14:56Anyway, so we're just going to saute these for like a minute
- 15:00and then we're going to add in our pasta and then we're going
- 15:04to add in some pasta water and then shit, I forgot the most
- 15:07important thing. Hold on.
- 15:09This is our melty cheese sauce from last week's episode.
- 15:14So just a reminder, it is 2 cups of soy milk.
- 15:20It's a big batch. You can have it.
- 15:22We're certainly not going to. We're only going to use like 1/4
- 15:25of this at most in this pasta. 2 cups of the Eden Foods
- 15:29unsweetened soy milk, 1/4 cup of nutritional yeast, 1/2 cup of
- 15:33tapioca starch, 6 tablespoons miso, 2 tablespoons refined
- 15:39coconut oil, and one teaspoon lactic acid powder.
- 15:44OK, I'm going to go get our pasta.
- 15:48We're nodded in. I really wish I was using a
- 15:51bigger pan, but that's fine. No, this looks great.
- 16:02This pan is totally big enough for what we're doing.
- 16:07This is kind of a shit shell. Like, this is actually a
- 16:11disaster, but I'm so excited to eat this.
- 16:16All right, I'm just going to bring the pasta water or
- 16:18whatever. It's already a struggle.
- 16:20Oh my God, why did I do it like this?
- 16:25I need your help. It's the situation.
- 16:28OK, here's our pasta water. I'm just going to add a bit of
- 16:32it. Not tons.
- 16:35I say as I add tons. Honestly, maybe we switched the
- 16:46whole thing over to the pot. This is a crisis, hashtag.
- 16:58This is a crisis. Bethenny Frankel, get in here.
- 17:01Hand out some check cards, please.
- 17:03Cash cards. This is a literal crisis.
- 17:08OK, it's getting better with the pasta water, but there's just
- 17:11peas flying everywhere. It's fine.
- 17:13That's fine. This is how we intended for it
- 17:16to go actually. OK, it does look really good,
- 17:19I'm not going to lie. OK, let's add some of this
- 17:22cheese sauce into the mix. And again, this is one of those
- 17:25measure with your heart situations.
- 17:29Really can't go wrong. I'm going relatively light with
- 17:34it, at least for now. We'll see what happens.
- 17:40By the way, I just want you to know I ow injuring myself for
- 17:46the craft today. I wanted to grate tempeh on top
- 17:51to make it look like grated parmesan but unfortunately my
- 17:55tempeh had gone off. I found out via eating it so we
- 18:00will not be doing that but you can do that at home.
- 18:03I actually want more of the cheese sauce.
- 18:10Also, I still have garlic bread dip leftover from last week's
- 18:15episode. I can't wait.
- 18:17I can't wait to eat this and the garlic bread dip after this.
- 18:25Oof, this does look really good. Now I like my pasta a little
- 18:31more cooked than al dente. Oh, I never finished with the
- 18:34oh. So that was one thing.
- 18:35I wanted to share. The other thing.
- 18:37So I've been into mindfulness meditation lately to try to be a
- 18:41little less crazy. It turns out it works.
- 18:43There's a reason why everyone talks about it.
- 18:44I mean, I've meditated for years, but mindfulness
- 18:47meditation specifically does seem to be a little bit
- 18:50different. OK, I'm going to stop this and
- 18:52plate it in one second. I'll just finish this.
- 18:55So I was doing a guided mindfulness meditation session
- 18:59and the instructor said something I can't stop thinking
- 19:04about. And I think he's so astute.
- 19:06He said that you know how when you meditate and your mind
- 19:09wanders, you're kind of like, oh fuck, like why did my mind
- 19:13wander? And he said, instead of getting
- 19:16upset with yourself for letting your mind wander, I'm going to
- 19:19add a bit more of the cheese sauce because why not?
- 19:23Instead of getting mad at yourself or letting your mind
- 19:25wander, why don't you celebrate the fact that you realize that
- 19:29your mind was wandering? And the reason I love this is
- 19:33because it connected with me that if you're realizing that
- 19:37your mind was wandering, wandering, wandering, wander,
- 19:41wandering, then by definition you're present in this very
- 19:46moment because you came back from whatever thought loop you
- 19:49were having. So you should celebrate the fact
- 19:51that you're present now instead of being mad at yourself or not
- 19:54being present 2 minutes ago, right?
- 19:57Like, isn't that such a good perspective?
- 19:59And I feel like it can be applied to a lot of things, so I
- 20:01just wanted to share that. OK, I'm going to turn this off
- 20:04and I think it's time for us to plate.
- 20:12That is one of my favorite sounds of all time.
- 20:26OK, we're going to add a little fresh parsley on top.
- 20:31OK, that doesn't look as good as I was hoping it would.
- 20:34I'm going to try just bashing some black pepper.
- 20:46The reason I'm doing this is I want a coarser black pepper
- 20:51aesthetic, then a fully ground. OK, I love how that looks.
- 21:02I'm also adding some crystallized show you because it
- 21:05is one of my favorite things. And then some lemon zest.
- 21:12Oh yeah, smells incredible. That looks so good.
- 21:25I want a little more though. I'm so obsessed with how that
- 21:33looks now. The original vision was to add
- 21:37garlic flours. I'm going to see how it looks.
- 21:39It might detract, so we might not do it.
- 21:46OK, I think I like that, actually.
- 21:53OK, obviously enough to take a photo of this.
- 21:55Fucking stunning. So sick.
- 22:09OK, it's time to eat. We're gonna start with the
- 22:12cucumber. OK, here's what's crazy, my bite
- 22:24didn't even have the yuzu sauce in it, which is so good.
- 22:27It just had all the toppings which made it so yummy.
- 22:31But now we're going to get a bite with everything.
- 22:36It's absolute perfection. Now this guy.
- 22:52That's really good. The green peas plus the orange
- 22:56sass together. Chef's kiss.
- 23:00Could even add a squeeze of lemon and be a little bit
- 23:04worried about the soy milk and the cheese sauce curdling.
- 23:07But I'm actually obsessed with that.
- 23:12It's like one of my favorite pasta dishes I've had.
- 23:15I recommend going heavy with the sauce and heavy with the green
- 23:20peas. And honestly, I wouldn't have
- 23:23minded a little more onion in there too.
- 23:24You know what? It kind of reminds me of a
- 23:30healthier version of a carbonara.
- 23:34It's very good. Like very good.
- 23:36Like, I'm going to go sit down. Make this.
- 23:39You'll love it if you like this episode.
- 23:42Rate reviews, subscribe. All the things, you know the
- 23:45drill. Thanks for being here.
- 23:47Love ya. Put it in my veins.
