- 0:00Speaker 1: She's on the Money. She's on the Money.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 0:25Speaker 2: for millennials who want financial freedom. My voice just broke
- 0:29Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Apologies.
- 0:30Speaker 4: That's really nice, yep.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Now we all love the idea of a side hustle,
- 0:35Speaker 2: a little extra coin to help free up your cash flow.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Sounds like the dream, and it.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Certainly can dream, Georgia, it can be be. But as
- 0:43Speaker 2: you would know, for busy people, which we also know
- 0:46Speaker 2: a lot of our listeners are, it can be really
- 0:48Speaker 2: hard to keep up with your primary job and then
- 0:50Speaker 2: also hustle on the weekend after hours get it done.
- 0:54Speaker 4: It's hard, especially with like set hours like that makes
- 0:57Speaker 4: it extra struggly.
- 1:00Speaker 2: So to help you out if you're wanting a little
- 1:02Speaker 2: side hustle but you are stretched for time, we've rounded
- 1:05Speaker 2: up our top apps and websites for making money so
- 1:08Speaker 2: you can get on the hustle with minimal effort and
- 1:11Speaker 2: in some cases from the comfort of your couch.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Or someone else that later, but like it could be
- 1:17Speaker 4: your couch or someone else's couch, exactly right.
- 1:21Speaker 2: My name is Georgia King Angel. Joining me today is
- 1:25Speaker 2: financial advisor Victoria Divine. What are your thoughts on apps
- 1:30Speaker 2: that help us hustle, which I love it.
- 1:32Speaker 4: It's literally so exciting, and I think let's preface this right, So, gee,
- 1:37Speaker 4: we've gone away, We've done our research. We have come
- 1:40Speaker 4: up with our top five favorite apps to help make
- 1:43Speaker 4: you money that don't require you to have money to
- 1:46Speaker 4: begin with. So obviously let out a little more.
- 1:48Speaker 3: What do you mean?
- 1:49Speaker 4: Yeah, so we've done top five, but then we've also
- 1:51Speaker 4: done some honorable mention, so like they get a mention,
- 1:54Speaker 4: but I think you guys would have guessed those ones,
- 1:56Speaker 4: So like, we're not going to make them one of
- 1:57Speaker 4: our top ones because otherwise why we are podcast with content.
- 2:01Speaker 4: But when we say you don't have to have money
- 2:03Speaker 4: to make money, we obviously adore our app friends like
- 2:07Speaker 4: shop back and our friends at shares E's, but those apps,
- 2:11Speaker 4: not a bad thing, do require you to spend money
- 2:14Speaker 4: to make money. So as a prerequisite for this episode,
- 2:17Speaker 4: we have made the decision to only review apps and
- 2:21Speaker 4: recommend apps that you do not need any cash to
- 2:24Speaker 4: start with. So obviously, our friends at shot back give
- 2:27Speaker 4: you a cash back reward for shopping online, which is
- 2:30Speaker 4: a money win if you've got something that you wanted
- 2:32Speaker 4: to buy and shareses. They're our investment app Friends that
- 2:35Speaker 4: we've been talking all over the podcasts about more recently,
- 2:38Speaker 4: and they are a great investing platform. But again, you're
- 2:41Speaker 4: going to need money to put on the platform to
- 2:43Speaker 4: start making money. All of which is great, but gee,
- 2:47Speaker 4: what if we have no money to begin with. Here's
- 2:50Speaker 4: five top apps that don't require much skill that are
- 2:54Speaker 4: going to help you boost your income this financial year.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Love it money so excited.
- 3:00Speaker 2: We should also say up the top here that none
- 3:02Speaker 2: of these apps or websites are sponsoring this episode that
- 3:06Speaker 2: we thought were pretty.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Can you imagine it would be nice that would get
- 3:09Speaker 4: in touch if you were to hear yourself for a show.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Let us know and we are happy to chat. Georgia
- 3:15Speaker 4: does sponsored posts so f on her Instagram. I think
- 3:18Speaker 4: she's got nearly a thousand followers for.
- 3:19Speaker 3: My Yeah, for my eight hundred followers.
- 3:22Speaker 2: Okav let's get straight into it. Fiver is the first
- 3:27Speaker 2: app on our list today. I've never used Fiver I have.
- 3:31Speaker 2: It's an epic little platform. Tell me all about it.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Shouldn't call it little though, it's actually massive. It is
- 3:36Speaker 4: the world's largest marketplace for digital services that gives employers
- 3:39Speaker 4: the opportunity to hire people like freelance writers or graphic
- 3:43Speaker 4: designers or people who can do copy via their platform,
- 3:47Speaker 4: and it also allows freelancers the opportunity to use the
- 3:50Speaker 4: platform to connect with potential clients. Now, there are a
- 3:54Speaker 4: number of reasons why you would use this. It could
- 3:56Speaker 4: be good for people who creatives, writers, designers, people in
- 4:00Speaker 4: video or animation or marketing or audio, all of which
- 4:03Speaker 4: I do not have any skill in. But you could
- 4:06Speaker 4: also advertise your administrative skills or have a look on
- 4:09Speaker 4: the platform and see what there is, because honestly, it
- 4:12Speaker 4: is endless. I have used it a number of times.
- 4:15Speaker 4: It is honestly such a good platform, and it's really
- 4:19Speaker 4: great for people who want to make the most of
- 4:21Speaker 4: having access to clients without branding or marketing themselves. So
- 4:24Speaker 4: you don't need to have a website setup, you don't
- 4:27Speaker 4: need to go and you know, create a whole business
- 4:29Speaker 4: for yourself. You can just pop your skills on this platform,
- 4:33Speaker 4: fill out a little bio about you and what you do,
- 4:35Speaker 4: and over time you might have to start at a
- 4:37Speaker 4: lower entry rate because obviously to get your first few
- 4:40Speaker 4: jobs without any reviews is going to be a bit
- 4:42Speaker 4: of a challenge, but I don't think it would be
- 4:44Speaker 4: too bad. But once you build up those good reviews,
- 4:47Speaker 4: you can increase your prices. And I actually know someone
- 4:50Speaker 4: in our community who just checks copy, like literally just
- 4:54Speaker 4: fact checks copy and English because she has clients that
- 4:58Speaker 4: are English as a second language and wants like essays
- 5:01Speaker 4: and stuff proofread so that it is grammatically correct, because
- 5:05Speaker 4: English isn't something that absolutely everyone is always perfect at.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I feel like a lot of people could do that role,
- 5:12Speaker 4: even if they don't have like video and animation design
- 5:15Speaker 4: and you're not a graphic designer, like I think this
- 5:17Speaker 4: platform could absolutely tick a few boxes. And as I said,
- 5:21Speaker 4: you've got the opportunity to use it as much or
- 5:23Speaker 4: as little as you want and g In fact, when
- 5:25Speaker 4: we're doing some research for this episode, we found out
- 5:28Speaker 4: that there is a freelancer in the US. Her name's Alexandra,
- 5:33Speaker 4: and she says that she has made three hundred and
- 5:37Speaker 4: seventy eight thousand dollars US as a freelance writer on
- 5:42Speaker 4: fiver Dude.
- 5:42Speaker 3: She said she makes that per year.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Oh my god, not total, not.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Total, that's per year. That's not real. Most writers are
- 5:50Speaker 3: in like fifty k.
- 5:51Speaker 4: A year, literally, but she says it's not that hard,
- 5:56Speaker 4: and to be honest with numbers like that, I really
- 6:00Speaker 4: believe her.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I know, I'm really intrigued by that story. Alexandra listening
- 6:05Speaker 2: cole in. That's not really a thing that we.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Do, but I mean, it's probably not the norm. I
- 6:10Speaker 4: would love Alexandra's money story. So if anyone knows her,
- 6:13Speaker 4: let us know. We'd love to slide into her DMS.
- 6:16Speaker 4: But it's one of those things where even if you've
- 6:19Speaker 4: got some free time at home, maybe reading essays or
- 6:22Speaker 4: reading copy or doing something that you have skill in
- 6:25Speaker 4: could actually make you some money and do as we promised.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Guess what, you can do it from your couch.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly right.
- 6:31Speaker 2: And this one's really handy for freelancers because you know,
- 6:35Speaker 2: I freelance, and it can be really hard to connect
- 6:38Speaker 2: with clients. Sometimes you just don't have the energy, you
- 6:41Speaker 2: don't have the passion maybe to like go out and
- 6:44Speaker 2: pursue leads and try and network. It's hard in this
- 6:47Speaker 2: day and age as well. So this just having like
- 6:50Speaker 2: a pool of clients there that you can work with,
- 6:52Speaker 2: I think is really helpful, and not having.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Is really handy as well.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 3: So good.
- 6:58Speaker 4: And then these are quite well. We've done the research
- 7:01Speaker 4: into that five as service fees are five point five
- 7:04Speaker 4: percent of the purchase amount, which is I think pretty good,
- 7:08Speaker 4: especially because marketing and branding and websites and stuff would
- 7:11Speaker 4: absolutely cost you a little bit more than that to
- 7:13Speaker 4: establish in the first instance. And then there's an additional
- 7:17Speaker 4: two dollars small fee order applied to purchasers that are
- 7:20Speaker 4: under fifty dollars, which I don't know. That all seems
- 7:23Speaker 4: quite reasonable for how easy they make the process.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Yes, again, not sponsored, we just stams.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and we should say as well that we will
- 7:29Speaker 2: link to all of these apps and websites in the
- 7:32Speaker 2: show bios, so you don't need to be writing them
- 7:34Speaker 2: down as we go. We will leave them there for you. Gee,
- 7:38Speaker 2: what's next on our list? Okay, the next one here
- 7:41Speaker 2: is air Tasker V. I know you have used air
- 7:44Speaker 2: Tasker a couple of times quite recently. I have tell
- 7:47Speaker 2: me all about it. Do love air Tasker. I feel
- 7:50Speaker 2: like it makes my life really easy. So when we
- 7:52Speaker 2: moved Officers, I used air Tasker and some really strong
- 7:55Speaker 2: boys just as a fan, and they helped us move
- 7:59Speaker 2: all of our furniture into our new office, which arguably
- 8:03Speaker 2: was only the level down, but like it was quite heavy,
- 8:06Speaker 2: so that was really helpful. And the task got done
- 8:08Speaker 2: in like an hour as in I posted it and
- 8:10Speaker 2: the hour after we had people churn up, which was happy.
- 8:13Speaker 2: But air Task out not dissimilar to Fiver, only the
- 8:17Speaker 2: tasks are usually more hands on, so Fiver you could
- 8:20Speaker 2: do anywhere in the world, whereas air Task is more
- 8:23Speaker 2: location based. I mean people can do copywriting jobs and
- 8:27Speaker 2: stuff like that on there as well, but again more
- 8:29Speaker 2: location based usually. So essentially, as a user, I can
- 8:33Speaker 2: go onto the app post a task, and then users
- 8:37Speaker 2: of the app can bid for the task, and they
- 8:39Speaker 2: might say, all right, well the I could do that
- 8:41Speaker 2: for one hundred dollars, and someone else might come in
- 8:43Speaker 2: and be like, yeah, cool, I can do that and
- 8:45Speaker 2: it's one hundred and ten, and then you can read
- 8:46Speaker 2: through their reviews and work out who you want to
- 8:48Speaker 2: go with and pick the person that.
- 8:50Speaker 4: You think is right for the job. As a hustler,
- 8:53Speaker 4: like you can literally go on that app and keep
- 8:55Speaker 4: an eye out for tasks that are within your scope
- 8:57Speaker 4: of capability, and you could just put your hand up
- 8:59Speaker 4: for the price that you're willing to do it for so,
- 9:01Speaker 4: like it might be rubbish removal, which I have used
- 9:04Speaker 4: their tasker for before, because I didn't have the tools
- 9:07Speaker 4: and resources to get a trailer and get all the
- 9:09Speaker 4: rubbish that I had from a moving house a little
- 9:11Speaker 4: while ago in a trailer and get it done. It
- 9:14Speaker 4: was just easier to get an antasker. But also I
- 9:16Speaker 4: might have like a day's worth of admin. I know. Actually,
- 9:19Speaker 4: I've got a couple of girlfriends who have online product
- 9:22Speaker 4: businesses where they have to pack boxes, and a couple
- 9:25Speaker 4: of them have had days where their businesses have been
- 9:28Speaker 4: like so busy that they actually needed a few more
- 9:32Speaker 4: hands on deck to like pack their product boxes and
- 9:34Speaker 4: like drop things to the post office. So there are
- 9:37Speaker 4: even jobs like that which are essentially just labor based
- 9:40Speaker 4: jobs where it's like, hey, call two hundred bucks for
- 9:43Speaker 4: you know, half a day's work, please come down and
- 9:45Speaker 4: help me pack my orders for my online business. So
- 9:48Speaker 4: it's actually quite cool what they have on that platform.
- 9:52Speaker 4: And especially if you're in lockdown jobs like that because
- 9:56Speaker 4: they're essential, they'll give you an essential workers permit so
- 9:59Speaker 4: that you can one get out of the house and
- 10:01Speaker 4: do something if that's what you're up to. But two,
- 10:04Speaker 4: it's absolutely legal and absolutely fine because you're doing work
- 10:07Speaker 4: that needs to be done.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Kind of cool, right, absolutely And does this work in
- 10:11Speaker 2: a similar way to fiber in that you like create
- 10:14Speaker 2: a profile and people approach you or is it like
- 10:17Speaker 2: review based as well?
- 10:19Speaker 4: It's kind of like the flip so like I as
- 10:22Speaker 4: somebody who needs something done, will post a job and
- 10:24Speaker 4: then you will bid for that job by saying I
- 10:27Speaker 4: can do that job for this job. I think it's
- 10:30Speaker 4: quite easy. So it's split up into different categories, so
- 10:33Speaker 4: like removals, assembly so you can get people to assemble
- 10:36Speaker 4: all your ita furniture, which is quite cool. It cooking, handyman, design,
- 10:41Speaker 4: and business. So it's usable for a lot of people
- 10:43Speaker 4: with a wide range of skills, which we like. And again, G,
- 10:48Speaker 4: we think it's really good because you can make money
- 10:50Speaker 4: on there that you otherwise wouldn't have made. And even
- 10:53Speaker 4: if you just do like one one hundred dollars task
- 10:56Speaker 4: each week in a year's time, G, that's fifty two
- 10:59Speaker 4: one hundred dollars like five grand.
- 11:01Speaker 3: Nice, That is nothing to be sneezed at. VD.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I know a lot about this one as well, because
- 11:07Speaker 2: I know when we did our side hustling episode way
- 11:09Speaker 2: back when people are like, yeah, great, but not all
- 11:12Speaker 2: of us know how to make candles or are good
- 11:14Speaker 2: at writing, and I don't know, you don't.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Feel like exactly.
- 11:18Speaker 2: So this is a way of making that cash without
- 11:20Speaker 2: having this necessarily like the fanciest skill.
- 11:23Speaker 4: Set you know, exactly. And it's also a way of
- 11:27Speaker 4: boosting your income without having to start like a business
- 11:30Speaker 4: and brand yourself and have like a skill that you're marketing. Like.
- 11:33Speaker 4: You can literally go on there and some people are like, cool,
- 11:36Speaker 4: I can't cook. Can you do my meal prep because
- 11:39Speaker 4: I'm on a diet. Yeah, and maybe they'll let you
- 11:41Speaker 4: know what to do. And I've got friends that have
- 11:43Speaker 4: done that too, So I think it's really interesting. And
- 11:45Speaker 4: even if you're like, oh, I really don't think that
- 11:47Speaker 4: there's going to be anything for me, what are you
- 11:50Speaker 4: going to lose from downloading the app while you're already
- 11:52Speaker 4: on the couch and scrolling through what kinds of jobs
- 11:55Speaker 4: are on there? Because you might see something you're like, oh,
- 11:57Speaker 4: I didn't even know that was a thing, and give
- 11:59Speaker 4: it as easy because if it's not for you, don't
- 12:02Speaker 4: do it again.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Also, like if you're saving for something, I have my
- 12:05Speaker 2: eye on this blanket at the moment, and it's like
- 12:07Speaker 2: way too much money, Like I should not I should
- 12:10Speaker 2: not be buying that blanket. But if I did like
- 12:12Speaker 2: a few little tasks and set that money aside for
- 12:15Speaker 2: that blanket, I could justify that blanket. Stay blanket again, George.
- 12:19Speaker 2: But yeah, I feel like that's a nice kind of
- 12:21Speaker 2: little way of saving as well.
- 12:23Speaker 4: I think it's really cool as well. And I actually
- 12:25Speaker 4: know a couple of mums that do that on the side,
- 12:28Speaker 4: and then they use that money for family holidays each
- 12:30Speaker 4: year because family holidays weren't in the initial budget. So like,
- 12:33Speaker 4: that's kind of cool that they can create the lifestyle
- 12:36Speaker 4: that they want to live by doing some extra stuff
- 12:39Speaker 4: that they otherwise wouldn't have been able to do. And
- 12:41Speaker 4: they know that a lot of us just hadn't considered it,
- 12:44Speaker 4: which is why we've done this entire episode Love.
- 12:46Speaker 2: In terms of fees, V do they take a cut
- 12:50Speaker 2: of what we're making?
- 12:51Speaker 3: How does that work?
- 12:52Speaker 4: So we found an article on Finder because I couldn't
- 12:56Speaker 4: find anything on their website, and it says that air
- 12:58Speaker 4: Tasker automatically deducts a service fee of around fifteen to
- 13:02Speaker 4: twenty percent of the total price of the job, so
- 13:05Speaker 4: pretty clean, pretty clear. At the end of the day,
- 13:07Speaker 4: they need to make their money. But the good thing
- 13:10Speaker 4: about air Tasker is that fee pays for insurance and
- 13:13Speaker 4: maintenance costs, which I think is a pretty good disolutely all.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Right, next one here vat Now we did it.
- 13:19Speaker 2: We tossed up whether or not to include a Facebook
- 13:21Speaker 2: Marketplace on this list.
- 13:23Speaker 3: It's kind of a given.
- 13:25Speaker 2: The community knows how much we love Facebook Marketplace. We
- 13:28Speaker 2: talk about it all the time of Done Sat Drinks,
- 13:31Speaker 2: Friday Drinks. Jessica Rich is always talking about it. She's
- 13:34Speaker 2: a big fan of the manifesting exactly.
- 13:36Speaker 4: She can manifest anything on Facebook Marketplace. So we're not
- 13:40Speaker 4: just talking about saving money though and going shopping. That's
- 13:43Speaker 4: definitely not the recommendation, which it usually is.
- 13:45Speaker 2: So it's more about selling our stuff here. So the
- 13:48Speaker 2: platform that we want to talk about is deep pop,
- 13:51Speaker 2: which jess is also a big fan of. Tell us
- 13:54Speaker 2: more about deepop feed because I am not hip enough
- 13:57Speaker 2: to be across it.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Oh gee, I don't think either of us are, And
- 14:01Speaker 4: that's why we had to turn to the good Jesse
- 14:03Speaker 4: Grinci to tell us how it works and what's going on.
- 14:07Speaker 4: Because I was overwhelmed. I downloaded the app and I
- 14:09Speaker 4: was like, I am not cool enough to be here,
- 14:12Speaker 4: and there seems to be like strategy and stuff behind it. Anyway,
- 14:16Speaker 4: how it works get to the crux of it. There
- 14:19Speaker 4: are a lot of people who use deepop if you
- 14:21Speaker 4: haven't heard of it same but there's thirty million users
- 14:26Speaker 4: of deepop, which is wild, and it's essentially a peer
- 14:29Speaker 4: to peer marketplace that's laid out in a very similar
- 14:33Speaker 4: format to Instagram. So you can kind of like scroll
- 14:36Speaker 4: through lots of different pictures and then you can buy
- 14:38Speaker 4: and sell clothes and items from those pictures, which I
- 14:41Speaker 4: think is quite cool. And as a seller, you can
- 14:45Speaker 4: set up your profile with like a photo or a
- 14:47Speaker 4: logo if you want to get really fancy, and a
- 14:49Speaker 4: site description, and you can connect your social media and
- 14:52Speaker 4: stuff to where, which is actually kind of cool. I
- 14:55Speaker 4: don't know how that works and why having your Instagram
- 14:58Speaker 4: attached to your deep hoop account is going to sell more,
- 15:01Speaker 4: but I'll just leave that there. But our very own
- 15:05Speaker 4: Jessica she adores Deepop, and she said that the main
- 15:09Speaker 4: selling points here for her to use deeppop is that
- 15:12Speaker 4: it's super convenient that you don't have to wait around
- 15:14Speaker 4: for someone to pick up things like you do on
- 15:16Speaker 4: Facebook Marketplace, and you can negotiate with someone via the
- 15:20Speaker 4: inside messenger that they have and then they can buy
- 15:23Speaker 4: and pay for it before you ship it or meet
- 15:25Speaker 4: up to pick it up. And it's something that we like,
- 15:28Speaker 4: right because there was recent research. Again none of this
- 15:30Speaker 4: is sponsored, but also how cool that we are at
- 15:33Speaker 4: a point g where we have to disclaim it that
- 15:35Speaker 4: that's true. Anyway, there was recent research by gum Tree
- 15:40Speaker 4: that actually said that the average Australian has five two
- 15:43Speaker 4: hundred dollars worth of stuff sitting around their house that
- 15:45Speaker 4: they don't use and could sell. So that's pretty good
- 15:49Speaker 4: if we're talking about making money. And obviously g we
- 15:52Speaker 4: love the secondhand economy and the fact that you know
- 15:55Speaker 4: fast fashion exists. This is one way of getting some
- 15:58Speaker 4: fashion items into your wardrobe or out of your wardrobe
- 16:01Speaker 4: in this particular case, in a really good way. Apparently
- 16:05Speaker 4: it's easier to use than face according to Jessica. According
- 16:09Speaker 4: to Jessica, we're putting it in the pros. I like that,
- 16:12Speaker 4: and people are using the app in their own way
- 16:15Speaker 4: by setting up little online stores and stuff for their brands.
- 16:18Speaker 4: So people are like making squnches and stuff and putting
- 16:20Speaker 4: it on there without having to set up a whole
- 16:22Speaker 4: social media profile and an online business for their kind
- 16:25Speaker 4: of small business, especially during lockdown. I just think this
- 16:28Speaker 4: is a really cool life.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Yeah. So it's kind of like a step beyond marketplace
- 16:31Speaker 2: in that, like if I was selling I'm still selling
- 16:33Speaker 2: my formal dress guards if anyone remembers.
- 16:35Speaker 4: That or no ones bought it.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Yeah, surprisingly, So if you had a profile on deepop,
- 16:41Speaker 2: it would be much more personalized. You'd have like multiple
- 16:45Speaker 2: things on there that are like true to your style,
- 16:47Speaker 2: and people would then probably return to you. I'm imagining
- 16:50Speaker 2: because okay, does that make sense? That's always your formal
- 16:55Speaker 2: dress on deep hop. I'm going to put it on there, George's.
- 16:58Speaker 4: It's probably why it hasn't sold.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'll head out to hit that right.
- 17:03Speaker 3: After this episode.
- 17:06Speaker 4: Fees for Deepop fee so Deepop charges a ten percent
- 17:09Speaker 4: fee for all sales that are made through the buy button,
- 17:11Speaker 4: and this automatically is charged on the total transaction amount,
- 17:15Speaker 4: including shipping costs, which I think is kind of cool,
- 17:17Speaker 4: so you don't have to worry about transferring money or
- 17:19Speaker 4: paying for things. It just happens, and then you'll get
- 17:21Speaker 4: the profits.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Bob's your uncle, all right, that one is for Jessica Ricci. Okay,
- 17:26Speaker 2: let's head to a little break here, guys. But on
- 17:28Speaker 2: the other side, we will be chatting surveys, dog sitting,
- 17:33Speaker 2: and potential flaws that we need to be mindful of
- 17:35Speaker 2: when it comes to using the apps as a side hustle.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Stick around, guys.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Girl.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Now we are talking about pure profile.
- 17:49Speaker 4: So I haven't heard of that one before.
- 17:51Speaker 2: I hadn't until we researched this, and then I set
- 17:54Speaker 2: up a little profile. Guess how much money I've made
- 17:57Speaker 2: since we chatted this morning. Eighty five cents? But oh
- 18:01Speaker 2: she easily, super easy.
- 18:03Speaker 3: That was a two minute job that I did.
- 18:05Speaker 4: Wait, you made eighty five cents in two minutes. Yes,
- 18:09Speaker 4: not bad. That's pretty good.
- 18:10Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 18:10Speaker 4: You're bad. So hey, if we extrapolate that out, g
- 18:14Speaker 4: I don't know if you did this, but I did
- 18:16Speaker 4: because hold on, let me use my brain quick not
- 18:19Speaker 4: so quick maths. That is twenty five dollars and fifty
- 18:22Speaker 4: cents per hour.
- 18:24Speaker 2: See, that's pretty good money, that's the thing. So eighty
- 18:26Speaker 2: five cents it sounds like nothing. But then when when
- 18:29Speaker 2: you do your quick mass like you just did, it's
- 18:31Speaker 2: actually heaps. We should explain this.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Actually, I mean you do have to pay tax, so
- 18:36Speaker 4: that's actual income. But at the same time, twenty five bucks.
- 18:40Speaker 4: Did you do it from your couch?
- 18:41Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 18:42Speaker 4: I did money win.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Now let's let's explain what it is for anyone who's like,
- 18:46Speaker 2: what are the girls talking about? They've lost the plot
- 18:49Speaker 2: week lockdowns?
- 18:50Speaker 4: Really good to them. This is actually really cool not
- 18:52Speaker 4: app so it's not strictly an app, but this could
- 18:56Speaker 4: be just another easy way to make some cash. Holder
- 18:58Speaker 4: on the side, Pure Profile pays you cash to do surveys,
- 19:03Speaker 4: which we love. Basically, you complete surveys and the more
- 19:06Speaker 4: surveys you take, the more money you make a nice
- 19:09Speaker 4: do their marketing for them. You reckon?
- 19:12Speaker 3: That could be the slogan.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Yeah, so you can redeem the money in cash, which
- 19:16Speaker 4: is obviously ideal, or you can redeem it via various
- 19:19Speaker 4: gift cards or via PayPal, or in discounts, or even
- 19:22Speaker 4: in movie tickets.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Probably not, Probably not going to do it in movie tickets,
- 19:25Speaker 2: but I like the center.
- 19:26Speaker 4: Not at this point in time, it's nice to know
- 19:29Speaker 4: we've got absolutely.
- 19:31Speaker 2: So as we said before, v I was literally doing
- 19:34Speaker 2: it from the comfort of my couch. I was sitting
- 19:36Speaker 2: there doing nothing anyway. I was waiting for Harps to
- 19:40Speaker 2: do something so that we could go on our daily
- 19:42Speaker 2: lockdown walk.
- 19:43Speaker 3: So it's fairyinness to kill, So what else are you
- 19:46Speaker 3: going to do? May as well do it, sense, that's
- 19:48Speaker 3: what you can do.
- 19:50Speaker 4: I really like that because at the end of the day,
- 19:52Speaker 4: I think a lot of us, especially in Melbourne and Sydney,
- 19:55Speaker 4: we have reached the point in lockdown where we are
- 19:57Speaker 4: now bored enough to watch all of Oprah, all of
- 20:01Speaker 4: Doctor Phil and then whatever cooking show comes on at
- 20:04Speaker 4: three pm. Like, that's what point we are at. And
- 20:07Speaker 4: I think that this could be an engaging way of
- 20:09Speaker 4: just you know, even if you do like an hour
- 20:11Speaker 4: or two, I'm not promising this will be the amount
- 20:12Speaker 4: that you make each and every single hour. But as
- 20:15Speaker 4: you said before, George, you made eighty five cents for
- 20:17Speaker 4: two minutes of time. It's twenty five bucks an hour exactly.
- 20:20Speaker 2: And the surveys, they all differ in what they pay you.
- 20:24Speaker 2: So apparently with a lot of these survey sites, a
- 20:27Speaker 2: lot of them do points for like how many surveys
- 20:29Speaker 2: you complete, oh yeah, Whereas on this platform it's it's
- 20:33Speaker 2: a set price, so you know what you're getting as
- 20:36Speaker 2: you go into it, if that makes sense.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Right, Like you're not just going I get three points
- 20:40Speaker 4: for this and then three points ends up exactly libise
- 20:43Speaker 4: points and they're worth nothing. I like that, yes, and.
- 20:46Speaker 2: I should say that it was also really fun, So
- 20:49Speaker 2: just a little fun activity if you're bought on the
- 20:51Speaker 2: toilet that have fun with that, do you know what
- 20:53Speaker 2: I mean? Fees things to consider.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Go be all right?
- 20:57Speaker 4: So you can only cash out a maximum of seven
- 21:00Speaker 4: twenty dollars at a time, and a minimum of twenty dollars,
- 21:03Speaker 4: so g I'm sorry to let you know, but you
- 21:05Speaker 4: can't cash your eighty five cents out yet. You're going
- 21:07Speaker 4: to have to do some more work and then once
- 21:10Speaker 4: you get to twenty bucks you can cash it out.
- 21:12Speaker 4: That's all right. Your redemption can't exceed more than seventy
- 21:15Speaker 4: bucks within a sixty day period, so you know, it's
- 21:20Speaker 4: not going to be forty hours of this a week
- 21:23Speaker 4: and actually have this job at as a full time job.
- 21:26Speaker 4: But seventy bucks is definitely not something that we should
- 21:28Speaker 4: sneeze at. But again also it's not instant cash. It
- 21:32Speaker 4: could take up to thirty business days to be processed
- 21:35Speaker 4: and landing your account, so I wouldn't be doing this
- 21:37Speaker 4: if you need some quick cash. Different surveys again, are
- 21:41Speaker 4: going to earn you different amounts of money, and there
- 21:43Speaker 4: are lots of different survey platforms online. I know that
- 21:46Speaker 4: there's another one called Octopus, which seems to be really
- 21:49Speaker 4: popular in our community. But moving on g from things
- 21:53Speaker 4: that we can do on our own couches to things
- 21:57Speaker 4: we could potentially do on other people's couch.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I knew this would be the one we got you
- 22:01Speaker 2: were the most excited about, so it's.
- 22:03Speaker 4: Obviously that's why I suggested this. You put it well.
- 22:07Speaker 2: I wanted to build the anticipation for you, my girl.
- 22:10Speaker 2: So it's called poor Shake. It isn't why don't you
- 22:14Speaker 2: sell it to me?
- 22:15Speaker 4: Because I have already tried to sell it to you
- 22:17Speaker 4: prior to this episode. I think it's great.
- 22:20Speaker 2: So poor Shake basically is the dream dog sitting app.
- 22:25Speaker 2: I feel like it's the dream for people like UV
- 22:27Speaker 2: who absolutely don't really need to be paid to look
- 22:30Speaker 2: after other people's dogs anyway. Me, on the other hand,
- 22:33Speaker 2: I'm not as kind.
- 22:35Speaker 3: I love dogs, but.
- 22:36Speaker 4: So if I go away, I can't call you and
- 22:39Speaker 4: be like, hey, will you look like.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Lucy is different. I have a connection with certain dogs.
- 22:44Speaker 4: But okay, so Lucy's or my parents dog Sunday probably.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Remember Sunday Day stayed at our house and she broke
- 22:52Speaker 2: her leg and she was like four weeks.
- 22:53Speaker 4: I know, I had to come and rescue from your
- 22:56Speaker 4: house because you and my sister broke my parents' dog
- 22:59Speaker 4: lad off a ledge. No, yeah it did anyway, moving.
- 23:03Speaker 2: On, so, yeah, this probably isn't the app for me,
- 23:06Speaker 2: but the appet dog sitters with the people with dogs,
- 23:09Speaker 2: it just makes sense. Basically, you sign up to the app,
- 23:12Speaker 2: you choose your prices, you set up a profile, and
- 23:14Speaker 2: then you're good to go. You can dog sit overnight
- 23:18Speaker 2: or during the day. You know a lot of people
- 23:19Speaker 2: don't like to have their dogs at home. Their puppies
- 23:22Speaker 2: can be menaces, so it's better if they're with someone
- 23:24Speaker 2: if you have to go into the office. So it
- 23:26Speaker 2: works in that way as well. And it works really
- 23:29Speaker 2: well in that you can meet up with the dog owners.
- 23:32Speaker 2: The dog sitter and the dog owner can meet up
- 23:34Speaker 2: prior to the exchange taking place. If you will so
- 23:38Speaker 2: that you can be comfortable that your dog is going
- 23:40Speaker 2: to someone that you trust and are happy with.
- 23:43Speaker 3: So it's cool little app.
- 23:46Speaker 4: I like that. My best friend Steph actually uses this
- 23:49Speaker 4: app a lot because she's got two beautiful dogs, Orgie
- 23:53Speaker 4: and Archery, and one's a French bulldog and one is
- 23:56Speaker 4: a Pomeranian cost Chuawa and looks like a fox a
- 24:00Speaker 4: fox Boy. Anyway, when I'm unable to help out and
- 24:03Speaker 4: look after fox Boy and Archie, she goes on Paorshake
- 24:06Speaker 4: and has had nothing but good experiences. And that kind
- 24:10Speaker 4: of makes sense because the things we like about it
- 24:12Speaker 4: is that paor Shake actually only accepts fifteen percent of
- 24:16Speaker 4: pet sitter applications because you actually have to apply to
- 24:19Speaker 4: be on this platform. Because obviously, if you have a
- 24:22Speaker 4: bad pet sitting history, like Georgia King having broken my parents'
- 24:26Speaker 4: dog's leg one time, probably not going to make it.
- 24:30Speaker 4: We should just a disclaimer that Georgia did not break
- 24:33Speaker 4: the dog's legs. She did it in the backyard all
- 24:34Speaker 4: by herself, and then I had to come and pick
- 24:36Speaker 4: her up and do all the vets stuff because I'm
- 24:38Speaker 4: the only responsible person in Please.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Don't counsel me The other thing that we should add
- 24:43Speaker 2: is that it's not just dogs.
- 24:44Speaker 4: It's all pets, pets with paws. That's what it's called
- 24:48Speaker 4: paw shake. My cats have paws, bunnies have paws. It's
- 24:51Speaker 4: literally for any pet that you need looking after. In fact,
- 24:55Speaker 4: you could add your chickens and get them looked after.
- 24:58Speaker 4: And I think it's actually really cool because I know
- 25:00Speaker 4: a fair few UNI students do it and they just
- 25:03Speaker 4: like take their UNI work to somebody else's house, look
- 25:05Speaker 4: after the dog, use their Internet study, make sure that
- 25:09Speaker 4: they're doing well at UNI while being paid for it,
- 25:11Speaker 4: which I think is quite cool. And at the end
- 25:13Speaker 4: of the day, like, let's be really brutal, looking after
- 25:16Speaker 4: pets is definitely a commitment. It is definitely hard work.
- 25:19Speaker 4: It's not something where you just turn up and fill
- 25:21Speaker 4: their bowls like they do need engagement, and it's not
- 25:24Speaker 4: for everybody, but I think it's a pretty good option,
- 25:27Speaker 4: especially if you've got a few free hours, and it's flexible,
- 25:31Speaker 4: so like you could only accept jobs where you just
- 25:33Speaker 4: have to go feed the cat once a day, or
- 25:35Speaker 4: you could accept a dog where you actually come and
- 25:37Speaker 4: get the dog from somebody else's house and bring it
- 25:39Speaker 4: to yours and look after it for an extended period
- 25:41Speaker 4: of time. So different horses, the different courses, Georgi King.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and we'll finish off this one with a little
- 25:47Speaker 2: chat about the fees. What are they doing?
- 25:49Speaker 4: They so poor? Shaped take a nineteen percent cut of
- 25:52Speaker 4: your earnings, so make sure if you're on that platform
- 25:55Speaker 4: you are factoring that into whatever you are going to charge.
- 25:58Speaker 2: It seems like ten to twenty percent seems the norm
- 26:01Speaker 2: for most of the apps that we've chatted about today,
- 26:03Speaker 2: which is interesting, not really.
- 26:04Speaker 4: Seems quite reasonable, I feel, especially because you don't need
- 26:07Speaker 4: to do any marketing or branding yourself and there's no
- 26:10Speaker 4: business costs that you're going to incur to set yourself up.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Okay, that actually rounds up all of our apps for today.
- 26:19Speaker 2: We did want to give honorable mentions to door Dash
- 26:22Speaker 2: and Uber, which are also really great ideas. Make sure
- 26:26Speaker 2: if you are on Uber and the cycling delivery options
- 26:30Speaker 2: that you're staying safe though I know that's been a
- 26:32Speaker 2: point of controversy over the last year or so, so
- 26:36Speaker 2: stay safe, but there are of course always good options
- 26:38Speaker 2: as well. Is there anything we should be mindful of
- 26:42Speaker 2: when it comes to these apps? Yes, and we've gone
- 26:46Speaker 2: through the fees that you need to be mindful of,
- 26:49Speaker 2: and I don't think that you need to be wary
- 26:51Speaker 2: of them and be like, oh my gosh, they take
- 26:52Speaker 2: X amount. I think it's just making sure that you're
- 26:55Speaker 2: making enough money, but also making sure that you've accounted
- 26:59Speaker 2: for those fees, because there's nothing more heartbreaking than being like, okay, cool,
- 27:02Speaker 2: like I'm going to get one hundred bucks from this,
- 27:03Speaker 2: and then they take a nineteen percent cut and you're like, cool,
- 27:06Speaker 2: I only get X amount. So I think that that's
- 27:09Speaker 2: really important to remember. The next is, my friend, all
- 27:13Speaker 2: of these are income, all of these are taxable. It's
- 27:17Speaker 2: not just a little hobby. I mean, arguably you could.
- 27:19Speaker 4: Ask your accountant. I feel like the survey ones are
- 27:22Speaker 4: potentially classified as a hobby because they're so capped and
- 27:26Speaker 4: tax says that you can earn up to a certain
- 27:28Speaker 4: amount without having to pay tax on it if it's
- 27:31Speaker 4: a hobby. In saying that, we know the uber and
- 27:35Speaker 4: door dash and things like that are absolutely not hobbies.
- 27:37Speaker 4: They are jobs, so I would be treating them as such,
- 27:40Speaker 4: and do not forget to set aside money for these
- 27:42Speaker 4: earnings so you're not left with a really rude shock
- 27:44Speaker 4: when it comes to tax time.
- 27:46Speaker 2: Perfect all right, So just to quickly recap, we have
- 27:49Speaker 2: poor Shake the dog sitting extravaganza app. We have Pure Profile,
- 27:53Speaker 2: the survey website to die for.
- 27:55Speaker 3: I don't know why I'm giving them all these little explanations.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Who am I?
- 27:58Speaker 4: I know they are going to be very happy with
- 28:00Speaker 4: the free probi.
- 28:02Speaker 2: We've got Deep Hop the one for the hip the
- 28:04Speaker 2: hip kids. We have Air Tasker for the manual labor
- 28:09Speaker 2: as well as intellectual labor as well. And then five
- 28:13Speaker 2: are which is great for our freelances VD. I think
- 28:17Speaker 2: that is all we have time for. That is a
- 28:19Speaker 2: really good wrap up of the show. But as always,
- 28:22Speaker 2: just before we head off, we'd like to acknowledge and
- 28:24Speaker 2: pay respect to Australia's Aboriginal and torrest right island of People's.
- 28:29Speaker 2: They're the traditional custodians of.

- 28:36Speaker 4: land on which we are able to learn. We pay
