Latest / The Art of Love With Lucia / Why Rushing Always Fails With Avoidants

- 0:07Any time people try to get back together with anyone, they
- 0:11usually say the same thing. We're going to take it slow.
- 0:16But then what happens? They do it for like a week,
- 0:21maybe 2, and then they speed everything up.
- 0:24And that's why a lot of reconnections fail.
- 0:28And when avoidance is involved, rushing doesn't just hurt, it
- 0:32kills the whole thing. And what's interesting is that
- 0:36author Robert Greene explained why this happens years ago,
- 0:41especially in the art of seduction.
- 0:43But people just ignore it once emotions kick in.
- 0:47So if you're new here, hi, my name is Lucia.
- 0:50I'm a dating and relationship expert specializing in helping
- 0:52you get your ex back or to get over your ex.
- 0:56And welcome back my beautiful no contact Army.
- 0:59I hope you've been a good little soldier and stayed in no
- 1:02contact. So I want to be clear about
- 1:06something before we go any further.
- 1:09Taking it slow does not come first.
- 1:13Before you even think about pacing, you need to know whether
- 1:17getting back together even makes any sense.
- 1:21And in my video about the six questions to ask your ex before
- 1:25you get back together, which I will link in the upper right
- 1:27hand corner on the YouTube video, not to be confused with
- 1:31the YouTube podcast, I talk about what you should always ask
- 1:37before agreeing to get back together.
- 1:40Things like, well, why should I take you back and why did you
- 1:43change your mind and what's going to be different this time?
- 1:46And three other questions that deal with accountability and
- 1:49follow through. And if those questions don't
- 1:53have solid answers, then taking it slow is not going to save
- 1:56you. You're just dragging out the
- 1:58same ending. So the order matters.
- 2:03First the six questions, then taking it slow.
- 2:09Now avoidance don't move forward through talking.
- 2:12So let me be very clear about the timing.
- 2:14These questions are not relationship talk.
- 2:18They're not reconnection talk their decision questions and you
- 2:22ask them after the person says they want to get back together,
- 2:27but before you agree to anything.
- 2:30So not on the first casual coffee, not while you're
- 2:35catching up, and not weeks later once you've already gone back in
- 2:41emotionally. So when they say, well, I want
- 2:45to try again or something similar to that, they're not
- 2:47going to necessarily use those exact words.
- 2:49That's when you slow it down and say, OK, I'm open to talking
- 2:54about it, but I need to ask a few questions first.
- 2:56I need to understand a few things first.
- 2:58And then that's when you ask the questions.
- 3:01And then once those questions are asked and answered in a
- 3:04suitable, acceptable way with great answers, then you stop
- 3:10talking about it. So no more processing, no more
- 3:13rehashing, no more where's this going?
- 3:17Because at that point, words are done, and then behavior takes
- 3:21over. And that's where taking it slow
- 3:23begins. Not with more talking, but with
- 3:26controlled behavior. Now, avoidance don't leave
- 3:30because there's no attraction. They leave because things feel
- 3:34like too much too fast. So when they come back and you
- 3:38rush again, then you just recreate the exact conditions
- 3:43that made them leave the first time.
- 3:46And that's where Robert Greene's work becomes very relevant in
- 3:50The artist The Art of Seduction. He says absence strengthens real
- 3:55desire and exposes weak desire. And this applies to everyone,
- 4:01but it especially applies to avoidance.
- 4:03If attraction is real then space helps it to grow, and if it's
- 4:07weak then no amount of closeness will fix it.
- 4:11That's why you always hear absence makes your heart grow
- 4:14fonder. Yes, but only if there was real
- 4:18attraction to begin with. Otherwise it's out of sight out
- 4:21of mind. Now most people will panic the
- 4:24second that contact resumes and they remove all space.
- 4:29So they do the constant texting, the frequent meetups, the
- 4:33emotional availability on demand.
- 4:36And that does not build attraction.
- 4:39It suffocates it. And with avoidance, relief has
- 4:43to come before desire because especially for FAS, it's all
- 4:49about relief. Now, Green also talks about
- 4:53eagerness. And this is also where people
- 4:55mess up. And it's not about playing
- 4:57games. It's about not signaling relief.
- 5:00So the moment you act like I'm so glad you're back, even though
- 5:05you don't, I've been waiting, let's lock this in.
- 5:09You are creating pressure avoidance.
- 5:11Do not move towards pressure. They shut down.
- 5:16And most people rush not because they're manipulative, but
- 5:20because they're anxious. But it's the same result.
- 5:23And Green is very clear about tempo.
- 5:27He says Whoever controls the pace controls the dynamic.
- 5:32So what does taking it slow actually look like?
- 5:36It looks like coffee, not dinner.
- 5:38It looks like ending the meeting early.
- 5:41It looks like one hour, not 3. And I talked about this in my
- 5:46video titled Never give this to an X and I will put the link in
- 5:51the upper right hand corner on the YouTube video, not podcast.
- 5:57Now people think longer equals deeper.
- 6:00No, it doesn't. Long, intense Hangouts
- 6:04overwhelm, so short contain meetings leave curiosity and you
- 6:11because you always want to leave them wanting more.
- 6:13And that's what keeps an avoidant engaged.
- 6:16Now, Robert Greene also says the more you explain, the weaker you
- 6:21appear. And this is where people think
- 6:24they're being mature and they mess everything up.
- 6:28They want to talk about what went wrong, how much they've
- 6:31grown, where this is going. Avoidance.
- 6:34Don't reconnect because of conversations.
- 6:36They reconnect because something feels different.
- 6:39So let behavior do the work. Remember, you already have the
- 6:43conversation with the six questions.
- 6:45Talking too much too soon kills momentum.
- 6:50Now in the artist deduction, he also said the person who invests
- 6:54more becomes emotionally exposed.
- 6:58So if the avoidant reached out, let them suggest the next
- 7:02meeting, let them lean forward again, let them keep opening the
- 7:07door. If you take over the pacing
- 7:10because you're nervous, attraction flips and it is not
- 7:14going to flip in your favor. Now, Robert Greene also talks
- 7:19about the importance of withdrawing before interest
- 7:22fades. And that's why ending meetings
- 7:24early matters. You don't wait until the energy
- 7:27dies, You leave when it's still good.
- 7:30Not dramatically, not coldly, just cleanly.
- 7:33And that's how interest stays alive.
- 7:37People don't fail at going slow because they don't understand
- 7:39it. They fail because uncertainty is
- 7:42uncomfortable. I understand slowing down feels
- 7:46like it's losing control, but it's not.
- 7:48And rushing feels soothing, But that's only temporary.
- 7:53Most people rush to calm themselves, but calming yourself
- 7:57by speeding up is exactly how you blow the reconnection.
- 8:02And by the way, if you're thinking I know I shouldn't
- 8:04rush, but I can't help myself, that's normal.
- 8:08Most people can't hold this line on their own once emotions are
- 8:12involved. And that's where I commend.
- 8:13That's where coaching helps and it keeps you from messing things
- 8:17up in real time. So you can contact me at
- 8:22theartoflove.net/coaching and we will send you the rates.
- 8:25They are not on the website and that link is underneath every

- 8:46And again, all the links are underneath every video and
- 8:48podcast. So to recap, first ask the six
- 8:52questions, then take it slow that order matters.
- 8:58Robert Green explained the strategy avoidance.
- 9:02Prove it. In real life, if you control the
- 9:04pace, you control the outcome. So now I want to hear from you.
- 9:08Do you have any questions about anything I said something you
