- 0:52[SPEAKER_02]: It was on drone.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_02]: So you're in town, quick flight from San Diego.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_02]: What are you doing in town?
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: to see you on the podcast flew in specifically for the podcast perfect uh... no i'm actually going to a franchise conference event here in phoenix perfect uh... nice couple days and say hey we're gonna be in phoenix talking to Travis Barnes my business partner like we got to go see lions go we're here we want to come on over and see the shop and see you and it's great to be here
- 1:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know as fun.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_02]: He's I've been to your place a couple times I popped in one day I was just in and think you had me on like a Facebook live or whatever man I can't remember all we've done I don't blame we have we have we need to do more
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and I just saw you, I guess I saw you last year in Providence, you know, perform better.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_02]: I've only got the tap on the shoulder last year to kind of join you.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so for those of you guys that don't know, I've been falling on Todd for gosh, it feels like a at least a decade.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_02]: One of the best speakers presenters on the Perform Better Summit track, Lesson, Dale Coaches, has his own gym.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_02]: Now he's got a new, a new deal.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to share with everybody.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_02]: But if there's like three people that haven't heard of Utah, I want you to give everybody like two, two seconds of background.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: Well, thank you, Tim.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: I've been in the coaching field for 25 plus years.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: And it was kind of a mistake of how I got in this industry, honestly.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: I grew up back on the East Coast in Jersey.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: I played football.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: I went overseas after college.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted to be in NFL quarterback, but I took this circuitous route to do that.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: I went over and played an NFL Europe.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: I blew up my back.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: Three herniate discs, violence denosis, then degenerate back disease, left me motionless on a football field in France.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I went down this...
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: route to heal my back pain and eventually I was able to do that without surgery.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: I was just 25 years old, but that path afterwards led me in a direction to ultimately open my own gym.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: I already have my degree in Kinesiology at Massage Therapy, background, strength and conditioning.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: I love the health and fitness, but I had those, the piece of paper with the plus and the minus, like if I go in a chiropractic, I can do this, if I go physical therapy.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_01]: Right, all of these.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_01]: If I become a teacher in a coach, I love football.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: If I just go into coaching, which I had a great mentor coach.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: But ultimately, I met this entertainer named Michael King, King World Productions.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: They produced at the time Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: And then this show called Oprah Winfrey.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little one.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little one.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: So I started training Michael and was doing his bodywork and massage therapy.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: And he's like,
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: What are you doing going to Auburn, Alabama for grad school?
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: You need to come to Malibu, California, and I know everyone out in LA.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: This is where it all starts.
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: Well, low and behold, I did not go to Auburn.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: I went out west and lived in Malibu.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know if you ever been a place in your life where everything is really good, but you know in your heart of hearts, like, this isn't where I'm supposed to be.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: And I was 27 and I was like, this isn't where I'm supposed to be.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_01]: On the outside, I had it all because I was making good money.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: I was living the life in LA, but it was just not my, it wasn't my cup of tea.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: So my beat-up old car would have never made it back to New Jersey where I'm from.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: So I was like, I'll just go to San Diego and I got a G.A.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: job teaching weight training and rack-up ball and right next to me was this step-a-robus class and I was checking out the instructor and I eventually like, bring it in.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: Long story short, that was my future wife.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: So, Melanie and I have been married almost 25 years now and we got rooted there because I got offered a strength and conditioning position full-time in a college, I turned it down because she got offered a college professor ship at the same week I was and I opened a gym year 2000 and the rest is history because I had no clients, no money, no business
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: There weren't like studios.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: It was all large boxes.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_02]: And that was the start.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: We take fitness.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: And so what's school in San Diego?
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: Universities San Diego state.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: They asked Texas.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_02]: He went to William and Mary.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: Correct.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: It was a seat.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: I see you posted about it.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: I tried to drive on.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: I grew up in New Jersey, youngest of eight kids.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: And then went down.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't have much money.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: So I got a football scholarship to
- 5:30[SPEAKER_02]: Did not know it's hope I had learned something today.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't know that so so it's fitness quest 10.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's 2,000 You know You work with this guy was a Michael King.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you kind of got you on your start But you know, I know you from all the athletes you train all these high profile NFL guys
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Drew Breeze is one of them with Danny Tomlinson.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure there's like 50 other guys, how did that all come to be?
- 5:55[SPEAKER_02]: Because you know, a gym owner, not me personally, but like a lot of gym owners, that's like the dream.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_02]: And you'd probably say, hey, that's not what it's all cracked up to be.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: I would imagine.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_02]: I'm guessing there's that other half of the story.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_02]: But like how did Drew Breeze just walk in one day?
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: How did that happen?
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: Well, everything started with a broken massage table and a treatment.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: I was working on this guy named Vaughn Parker.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: Vaughn Parker was the wife of someone doing Pilates at the studio because my wife also taught Pilates and she said, Hey, my bad.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: My husband's got a bad back.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_01]: Can you work with him?
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, of course.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know her husband was a left tackle for the San Diego Chargers 2003.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: This behemoth of a man 6, 6, 320 pound walk through the door.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, who is this?
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: This dude's jacked.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: He's massive and I had when wanting to work with athletes, but I haven't really cracked the code.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: And next thing I know, I get Vaughn Parker on my table and I'm doing wrong thing in structural operation.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's part of my bodywork background and I got my elbow in his hips and he's like, oh my god, that's unbelievable.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: That feels great.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: Stay there.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: Go deeper.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going deeper.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm here in this splintering.
- 7:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, man, I never heard of that like this.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: This is crazy.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, oh, that's awesome.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like holding the table, driving my elbow into his glute.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, that's great.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: Next thing I know is getting louder and louder, the table, broken half.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: I've got him.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like, when I say broken half, the table snapped.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_01]: He's now on the ground.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_01]: This is the first half that I've ever worked with.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he's on the ground.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_01]: And he's looking up and I see the whites of his eyes.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: What was that?
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: So here's the funny thing.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's I'm 15, 20 minutes into my session.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, oh my god, what am I going to do?
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: I had just watched, I'm going to show my age.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: I just watched a VHS tape all on time massage.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I might stay.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to break out my time massage.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_01]: I take off my shoes, 100% I take off my shoes, I'm next to him walking on this guy's back.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: I'm got my heel in this piriformis and glute, and he's like, this is amazing.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_01]: How long you been doing this?
- 8:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like a long time.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: I've never done it.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: I get done.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sweating.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, that was the most amazing session, like we need to do more of this.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, let me know.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I think
- 8:16[SPEAKER_01]: my intention during that session because I had never done it.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: I was so focused.
- 8:21[SPEAKER_01]: I remember my eyes closed of just trying to like literally feel the soft tissue and I can remember it like it was yesterday.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: He got done and he said, hey, I'm very close to the athletic trainer.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: Would you be interested in coming down to the locker room and team room on Monday's after the game and doing this?
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: Could I know James would love to have, you know, like, absolutely sure.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's there that I met Drew, Breeze, and they said, Hey, I hear you do this thing called functional training.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: Can this is the Lidanean?
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: Can I look you up after this season and come train with you?
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, absolutely.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like,
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: Dude L.T.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: wants a train when you get him.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: The day after the season ended and then on Sunday Monday He called me.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, I'm ready.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, let's go.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: Ready.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, oh, right.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like, what am I going to do this guy?
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I never train a an elite pro athlete.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what am I going to do?
- 9:13[SPEAKER_01]: He comes up on Tuesday.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: Just the NFL season just ended two days ago.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: He comes up.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: And we had a light bulb moment.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: I asked him to take a shoes off to a balanced touch test.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: He does 22 on one side, 33 on the other side.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like,
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: LT.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_01]: Think about this.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: If I'm a decordinator and I'm going to get you and I know the yo is left to cut one way and I know that I'm going to tell my guy take away cutting to his right and we're going to make you to go left because you're not as good left.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to get the same.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: I saw that light bulb moment go off in his eyes and for the next nine years man.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: We grind it.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_02]: That's fantastic grind it.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: We grind it all started with a client referral to a broken table.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's a great thing.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's all figured out when something goes wrong.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, yeah, you could have been like, all right, well, I can't train anything.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't have a table.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_02]: He's like, I got this VHS to hold on to me.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go to TV and listen to the watch and stuff on the corner, but and then it's just one thing led to the next because LaDanie and then told Drew, hey, Drew, that guy, TD, like, you need to come up here three weeks later, Drew's working with me, and 23 years later now, I'm still working with Drew and we've got current NFL players, Jordan Love, Brett Ripon, I mean, we got a great group of guys and
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: I love it, man.
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: I love still being in the trenches.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's to me when like nothing else matters when training guys.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_02]: that's that's that's your business owner genius i mean that's how you came up you're your whole backgrounds that uh... you know you hear a worse story is not a worse story but you like you hear and it's not all it's cracked out to be right and work with these pro guys with man i'm on their you know i think call me twenty four seven on over there working on them in three in the morning is that is that that's true is that kind of how it happens or i mean i'd probably not now but back in the day they probably
- 11:05[SPEAKER_01]: You know I I have been blessed.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: I've worked with hundreds of pro athletes both on the NFL and Major League Baseball side and certainly the UFC
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: I've been blessed, man.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_01]: I have a few crazy stories, but it's very, very small and the ones that were crazy didn't last with me make sense right so I've Most of my clients I've had four years and years including after their NFL career like Drew He's been done now.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: He's gonna be in duck in the Hall of Fame next year I still train him when he's in town several times a week very cool.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: So it goes beyond just the training The crazy stories that are out there like
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: I was one that never wanted kiss people's button tell them how good they are.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_01]: I want to find out like, where you're not good and what could we do to get better?
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: Because we're always looking for ways to improve.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they probably appreciate that because they're in a world where everyone kisses their backside.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: And that wasn't my role.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm an athlete, I'm a coach.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to find ways how do we get better?
- 12:09[SPEAKER_01]: Not.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: Just hey, this is where you're doing good.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_01]: Great.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do it.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: But hey, what about like your, your, you know, your rotation for a quarterback, obviously, rotational strength and powers important are we balance on both sides.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: Are we getting maximum strength and explosion from our lower body?
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: Are we sequencing our body correctly when look at film and analysis and we look at from the ground up all the way from feet to fingertips.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: What is that like?
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: like I like to go into that level of depth with them and really point out here's how we get better now let's train that way and make sure that you're also connecting with them on all aspects of life not just football or baseball or fighting like life because many people see these guys on TV
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: And even if lives, or kids, or stresses on the outside because all their homeboys are holding onto them and they need a mentor.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: They do.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: They're a friend that they can talk real with.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I've always been that way.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: And my role has grown with those, both the past clients and the present ones as well.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, I think that there's a similarity, we had a, you probably know, Tim Grover, sure, Tim Grover on our stage at one of our gross summits, and he's just talked about, and we took a shot, right, and he sent a bunch of letters to the Chicago Bulls, and that's how he got Michael Jordan, right?
- 13:38[SPEAKER_02]: And the fact that you, you, you have the kind of same story, just took a chance, hey, would you come down here?
- 13:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know what I mean?
- 13:45[SPEAKER_02]: People would probably like, yeah, I don't think I'm ready.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, let's be honest.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_02]: You weren't ready.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_02]: No, you did it anyway.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't mean nervous as hell.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I remember driving on nurse to hear this thing.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: I remember driving to the gym and thinking, like, I felt like it was gained.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like butterflies.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what am I going to do with this guy?
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: And this is how I'm three weeks in.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, man, like, okay, then they start getting some, like sports illustrates coming to shoot today.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm like, oh, shoot.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I got to be great.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I got to be on.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: And like, some of the bigger name guys,
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, man, am I capable of doing this?
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: Am I able to, like, that's the head trash.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: This thinking thinking that we all have.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: And so obviously that's a piece of that business fitness quest.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_02]: 10 in the back of the day.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_02]: But that was that probably wasn't what paid the bill.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_02]: So I'd imagine it's general population moms and dads coming in and training.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_02]: So how how that shift happened.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_02]: So and do you still have fitness quest?
- 14:39[SPEAKER_02]: I don't even know this story here.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: So it's 25 years later, right?
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: And you're 2020, there was this thing called the pandemic.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's a small good.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you knew.
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you haven't heard of it or you blocked it out.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: But 98% of our people, we grew a team of up to 42 trainers and coaches and people of training because 98% of them were non-athletes.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: The moms and the dads, my niche.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: happen to be with the athletes and I love working with the every day Don and Dickens of the World though too like the everyday people and um 2020 hit and it was the first time in a long time that had been stricken with some is just extreme adversity.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: going beyond the pandemic.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: I was going into the pandemic burnout.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: I was going hard.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: I've been you know, teaching and speaking around, well, multiple continents, and I loved it, but I was I Monday through Friday train hit the plane, go speak on Saturday, come home Sunday, and I'm in the gym.
- 15:52[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't want you to know I was away, and I was I was pushing hard for 20 years.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: So I went in exhausted.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: and it just took a dive from there and it got pretty dark for a long time.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: I have my second knee replacement in 2020, December 2020.
- 16:12[SPEAKER_01]: I six weeks after that started experiencing the
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: I honestly thought I would die.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, man.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_01]: It was that bad, like, I told my wife.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: I said, I don't know, man.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think I gotta get out of fitness quest 10.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_01]: I need to like move to Montana and get away.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: I just need space.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm exhausted.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm burnout.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_01]: I just had my second knee replacement.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: I write one in 2018.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_01]: My left one in 2020.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: My back now has a 42 degree curvature in the spine.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's completely compressed.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: The doctor said, did you serve in Afghanistan?
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: Because you're backless.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: I said, I didn't, I didn't serve, unfortunately, and they said, well, you need a 14-hour surgery, and it's not going to be good.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: You can take a year off from your life, and my life is flashing in front of me.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: When you're physically in pain, your mind ain't right.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I just written a book called Get Your Mind Right.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm known to the athletes as Mr. Get Your Mind Right.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: Get Your Mind Right.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: Get Your Mind Right.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: Get Your Mind Right.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: I've been preaching that for decades, and all of a sudden,
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: Mr. Get your mind right mind wasn't right.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: I like I need to read my own book Right, but This wasn't like months.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: This was 2021-22 and I'm lost.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: Here I am.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: I'm I'm I just turned 50.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, do what the heck is going on?
- 17:33[SPEAKER_01]: I got all this success and all this stuff
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: I was doing a lot of praying man like what are you what are you leading me to?
- 17:41[SPEAKER_01]: How can I serve better because I'm shot?
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm exhausted.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm fatigued.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what should I move the Montana and just be done?
- 17:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I just kept my getting more and more quiet time and and here and like the best is yet to come the best is yet to come and I'll just fast forward for the sake of time
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: Um, three and a half years later, I run into a gal named Gabrielle Lyon.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you know, but Gabrielle, why does this conference down with Rory Vaden?
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: And, um, small.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: It was like six people.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think it conference.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: It was a very small intimate, it's a meeting.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_01]: You're meeting, yeah, literally.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_01]: And, um, we all shared, like, personal, like, how we're doing physically, mentally.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: And how is real?
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: Good.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, man, I'm not good.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, wait, what?
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: You got all this, what do you mean teen, got these, you train these guys, you got this, you got that, I'm like, no, they're glistened.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a herds, and Gabrielle, and I didn't even know her before I am.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: She looks at me, she goes, stick out your tongue first, I'm like, what is this thing in my tongue?
- 18:42[SPEAKER_01]: What are you talking about?
- 18:44[SPEAKER_01]: She looks at my ears, she's the, what's has neck you have?
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like 17 and a half.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: She goes,
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: Did you know why I've ever told you stop breathing at night?
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, oh, I'm like, yeah, she does, but I just kind of dismiss it and tell her I'm trying to be quiet, I'm like making a joke.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: And she goes, you have sleep out in the air.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, sleep out in the air.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: And that's fake old fat guys, isn't it?
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_01]: She goes, no, no, no, no.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: She goes, I got 30 year old, maybe a seal said have it.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: Big, thick, neck, athlete.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: She goes, you have sleep out in the air.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm telling you, you do.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I don't have sleep out in the air.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: I knew if sleep out in the air, but I never really studied it.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I went home this year and Diego got tested and they determined that I had stopped breathing that night, six hours and ten minutes of sleep.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: I stopped breathing 120 times for between 20 to 52 seconds with each episode.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, that's like the whole time.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm like, what the hell is that?
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: Sam, I was like, do the math.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, wait a second.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_01]: The doctor said, go out in your pool, put a brick overhead and tread water for six hours and 10 minutes.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: And while you're treading water with a brick overhead, stop breathing 120 times for 20 to 52 seconds and get out and let me know how you feel.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: I promise you, I got emotional.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_01]: I said, that's exactly how I feel.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly, I had not been, I was like, do I have an autoimmune disease?
- 20:14[SPEAKER_01]: Is there something going on?
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, that's exactly how I feel.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: He goes, well, this and there is hope, and you're going to need to get a seat Pat, and you're going to need to treat this thing because without it, you could die.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: It's called the silent killer, and I'm thinking of all all the athletes and all the people I work with.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: Big, big, big, big.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm thinking, holy, she's.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: Now listen, I didn't miss workouts for three and a half years because I would do it supposed to do.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'd caffeinate up in the morning.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'd go down to the gym because you're supposed to go to the gym and I wasn't sleeping, but I was exhausted.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: So I was like on this downward spiral trying to like save the world and save myself and everything else, but I was so shot.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: First night of wearing that CPAP, I had no joke.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: I woke up and I said, holy she's Melanie, I'm back.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_01]: I'm guessing isn't it?
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: Wow.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_03]: This is what it's supposed to be like.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, I feel like it's me because I haven't thought like this in years.
- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like way before dependent, I haven't felt like this.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: And that was the start of something like really, really special because since 2020, end of 23, I started getting treated just to almost two years ago, that was the start of, well, my, my chapter now, but I went through hell for three and a half years, man.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_01]: It was a tough, now you wouldn't know because I wouldn't say anything because I didn't want to do what was happened the first time with my back when I was playing football.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: Hey Todd, how's your back?
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: How's your back?
- 21:38[SPEAKER_01]: How's your back?
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not my back.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like a whole spiritual being like I'm not just my back.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't tell anyone My inner circle knew, but I have a back brace on and I was training people with my happy zone and I'll be crouching the Universal coaching position and I man they like coach your coaching your tail off these days I'm like, yeah, it's the only position.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: I feel good in So that's the story of like what brings me up today, but it was some really really dark
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: dark moments.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, you you feel like shit, right?
- 22:09[SPEAKER_02]: And Gabrielle Lion.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_02]: Well, plot her.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we saw her speak at Ben's event.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_02]: Ben, Ben Newman.
- 22:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, great.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: Amazing, right?
- 22:19[SPEAKER_02]: And she, she's just, I mean, so she nailed it, right?
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: She nailed it because I was going to doctor like Doc,
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: And here's the thing, think how we have great Alapothic doctors, but I was going to my primary saying, dog, I'm exhausted, and she would say this, Todd, if the milder pandemic, you're stressed, you're not sleeping good, your stress is heck, you need to reduce your stress.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: I hate to say this, but I throw my hands up, like, ah, come on, like, I'm not going to change, like, I'm trying to say people, I'm doing everything I can, sure.
- 22:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, reduce your stress.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: Do you hear that all the time?
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: But I knew in my gut, it wasn't that.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: It was something deeper.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: But she never said,
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe I've sleep at me.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's weird that they just they're staying in a little box, right?
- 23:02[SPEAKER_02]: And I guess that's what they every coach, right?
- 23:03[SPEAKER_02]: You only know what you know.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's it.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_02]: And so yeah, that's it.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, crazy story, I'm sure that's happening more than we realize out there in a public room.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: Well, now I'm like everybody's asking me, and I should be mad to get the sleep at me association.
- 23:17[UNKNOWN]: Because.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: Because I talk about all the time because, you know, you look at, you're healthy, but how many people do we run into?
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm exhausted and I'm fatigued.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_01]: And just because you're a Joss of Fatigue doesn't mean you have sleep out in the, obviously.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: But it might be who some people to get tested because someone says, hey, you stop breathing in the night or you wake up and you're kind of, you know, you woke up because you had occluded.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: How do you get tested?
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: Do you go to like a sleep study like to watch a sleep?
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: Well, no, nowadays is really simple.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: You go and you pick up a kid and you do it at your own, in your own life.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yep, exactly right is it where does the aura rate like you have an aura rate?
- 23:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah, I mean, that should give you at least some indication.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, you know, then your HIV and things like that be an off, but is it going to tell you that that's what's happening?
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: No, you know, I love aura rate rings and woot bands and that, but they won't detect sleep apnea because during this every time that that breathing stopped, my oxygen levels went down like 76, 77.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's not good.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: So what happens is they say here's what to go one step deeper on it.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: My dad died of a heart attack when he was 58.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, I don't want to be like my dad, and that's what happened.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: But what happens is if I were to have a heart attack, let's say at 54.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: They'd be like, oh man, jerking out a heart attack.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's genetic, but here's the thing.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't die, well, I died of a heart attack, but the heart attack was caused by years, maybe decades of finally the heart says, listen, I'm tapping out.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: I can't take anymore.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not getting enough oxygen.
- 24:49[SPEAKER_01]: I can't even recover at night.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: So the stress on the heart over years and years and years,
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: Boom, so I do believe there's a lot of people out there, even with heart issues that, well, where does it, where's the root of the problem?
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: Could be come from Sadat, man.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's all they have been firsthand with my dad.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_03]: And my dad was similar situation.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_03]: You're spending just days after days after days, just like,
- 25:13[SPEAKER_03]: no energy dead.
- 25:14[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, he's a he's a workhorse.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_03]: You know what I mean?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_03]: So like to watch him go from just I'll work in the pain.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_03]: I'll work in the whatever to not be able to get off the couch because he's literally just all down so bad that study changed.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_03]: It opens the door to where he's at now.
- 25:30[SPEAKER_03]: Sponsored by the sleep apathy association.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, but it's seriously because you have it.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's called the silent killer for a reason, like because most people don't know they have it.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: And if you have it and you don't know it, it could kill you.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: And for me, fortunately, they found it.
- 25:45[SPEAKER_01]: And again, it has given me my second life because since that time in the last year and a half, I'm on a mission.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I love it.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_02]: Let's hear about this new mission.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_02]: You got the hat on.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, trash over here, everybody's rocking this impact.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: I got my man, trashed.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_02]: I burned the house.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_02]: There he is, behind the camera.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: So what's this all about?
- 26:02[SPEAKER_01]: Man, like listen.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_01]: During this three to have your period, I went really deep on my faith.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I've always been a man of faith, but I never really hourly like was out, like this is why I started thinnest quest 10 and we've always been a faith-based business that with good values.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_01]: But during this time of so much adversity, I turned to my faith deeper than ever before.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: I also am blessed that I've trained several very, very well-known pastors,
- 26:34[SPEAKER_01]: in the Christian world.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_01]: And he's been a mentor of mine for over a decade now.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: Pastor Miles McPherson is someone who I've been going to church with him for 27 years and we do Bible study every Monday nights.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: These people are on my inner circle during this whole time.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: And we did a lot of prayer and a lot of just going through some tough, tough times on an including pastor Jay.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: But this all came to after the sleep at me a diagnosis of, all right, God, what's the next step?
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: What's the next chapter?
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: What's the next phase?
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: And I got clarity over a period of months of like, listen, my divine uniqueness is as a coach.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: that's what makes me who I am and so it makes me happy.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_01]: I love coaching.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_01]: I love coaching.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: When I speak, I'm a coach who speaks.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: As an author, I've written several books.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm an author.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a coach who likes to write.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like everything I do, I'm a coach at heart.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I said, you know what?
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: I've kind of been out of the game because during this tough time, I sold a portion of fitness quest 10.
- 27:42[SPEAKER_01]: The majority portion is now to my business partner, Jeff.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: It was because during this when I was like doing soul search and like I might die I got to figure an exit strategy or for like croak And a certain part of my soul was missing after that like man like I sold it off Sure, no, no, no, I'm like wait everything I built is now like no longer My yeah, and I'm like you know what
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: Why did this happen and how did this happen?
- 28:16[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm like, all right, let's put your eyes forward because you got to make your dreams bigger than your memories.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, we're going to create something way, way bigger than just having one great studio in San Diego, California.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to create lighthouses.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to create these lighthouses where we can spread light positivity, optimism, hope, all through health, fitness, and coaching.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what the lighthouses.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: So I started dreaming and thinking and writing and journaling of
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: like be the light, be the light because in a world full of darkness, how can we use a gym as a sanctuary, which for 20 years I'd always use fitness quest 10 as the sanctuary and people would flock to that.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like now it's not just San Diego.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_01]: I want to get these sanctuaries and lighthouses all over the country and hence in 2024 just a year ago we started impact ex performance.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: When I shared my vision with Travis Barnes who had started another franchise
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: 33, he like, wait a second, you're gonna combine fitness recovery, coaching in faith, faith fitness recovery and coaching.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: I said, absolutely I'm going.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, let's join forces and let's go.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what we've done the last year.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: We've been going hard at making these lighthouses special.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: We have six soon to be seven and eight are coming up.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: And the next year plus we want to really spread lighthouses throughout America and bring more light to communities where there's three, four hundred people in a community working out in recovery and optimization and have the opportunity if they choose to go deeper on their faith they don't need to we have people from all walks of faith, atheists, agnostic.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: Muslim, Hindu, Christian, we have everyone and but if you want more faith from the Christian standpoint, we have opportunities that one could opt in and receive that.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: So there's some fellowship, additional fellowship and chapel services that are available for people because listen, I've been through it.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_01]: I've been around a long time.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: I've had clients and
- 30:16[SPEAKER_01]: That client's diet had athletes of mine commit suicide, which spurred a whole, my impact foundation, nonprofit 503C, of like, this is going to, this is going to shine light.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: This is going to be different, and it's not just a group training and
- 30:34[SPEAKER_01]: And recovery, we got a cold plunge and a sauna type thing.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be some depth and soul here that we want to change lives.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_01]: And we want to do it in a great way.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what Travis and I are deployed to do.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what we've been doing.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: And we're excited for the future.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, okay, but again, I think it's news to me in what so try out.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so Travis or they can't you can't talk So okay, so you guys are partnered on up on this deal the mission is how many where we're looking at what's the big goal one more
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: The power of one of the next one is it's funny.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: I love the mountains.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_01]: When I'm away in the mountains I think big I'm like man.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna have 500 of these lighthousees someday.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: But then I'm like right now I'm so in the weeds like we're in the weeds and I'm gonna be bringing one to San Diego here soon In 2026.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: I'm tasked with I'm gonna bring a lighthouse to San Diego
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: an impact-experformance lighthouse in San Diego, and we hope to announce sometimes soon again.
- 31:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm on a hunt right now for that location, but we've got North Carolina, we've got two in North Carolina popping up, we've got six states covered, and
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, and I say one more, it's like we just want to find great people who are using fitness and recovery as a tool to change lives and a very holistic mindset because it is a holistic franchise in that perspective.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: So I love to say a hundred or five hundred, I'm like just full of time making great people, one more, the power of one more, and it's not about the number.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: It's about the people who are inside of each one and that we can make some significant impact
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: at each one.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, in a different way, you know, as I just fitness, right?
- 32:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we have a one of our coaching clients.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_02]: This faith family fitness, right?
- 32:24[SPEAKER_02]: The four or four of fitness faith family.
- 32:28[SPEAKER_02]: Man, I wish I knew I could be fine.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: I always could be fine, but I was a philanthropy with an end.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, we have a fitness world that kind of might work, right?
- 32:39[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:39[SPEAKER_02]: Super cool, man.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, honestly, great journey.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for sharing all that.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_02]: That's a tremendous story.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_02]: Some adversity in there.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, from, from, you know, everybody from the outside, sees you like, man, Todd's doing all this cool stuff.
- 32:53[SPEAKER_02]: You're on a TV show.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: Remember that trainer?
- 32:56[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think you weren't the damn strong strong.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_02]: She went the whole thing.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_02]: I got to the finals and I was like, oh my god, my darn bad.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, $10 a day.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_02]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_01]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_01]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_01]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_01]: I was like $10 a day.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: I was
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: yeah um killed it but again he gets some wisdom along the way um and that was a lot of fun that was 2016-17 then the back blew out damn back back but here's what I say my back is somebody was hit with kryptonite but my back has always been my barometer
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's checking in and like, now I talk to my back, like, all right, back, we go like, like, I literally have a relationship with my back because it tells me now and I'm stressed, I got too much going on, listen, I say this all the time.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like many of you who are gonna face adversity, there's gonna be a point, I'm gonna need a back surgery.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't had the 14 hour back surgery.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_01]: People are like, how in 2020 did you get diagnosed and they tell you you need a 14 hour back surgery?
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: I can't tell you all the things I did for my backs.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_01]: I did pretty much everything you could possibly think of along with some divine healing because the pain I was in.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't just sleeping because I'd sleep at me.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_01]: I was in so much physical pain.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't walk to the mailbox.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like, and I had pain medicine.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: It was bad.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I was ready for surgery until the pain went away.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm just blessed right now.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: And when you say, hey, every day,
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: Like if I'm on in pain, I'm good and there's gonna be a day when that thing, you know, it's gonna I'm gonna go a lot of different journey to heal that and I'll share that as well because I've shared a lot of this openly and true strength the book I wrote about this three and a half year period.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: Hardest book.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: I have six books.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: That was the hardest book I had in the right because I shared my guts.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: Damn.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: Share on things that people don't know.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like they use that.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like, oh yeah, got all together.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_01]: This
- 34:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I'm going to feel like a hypocrite.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: If I do this, I just can't be called coaching radeness.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: If I have coaching radeness, and they think, oh, it's got it easy.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's coaching all these people.
- 35:05[SPEAKER_01]: You have no idea of the stuff I had that endured like it most people.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: Most people, well, everyone's got something.
- 35:12[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone's got something.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_01]: But most people go through some tough times in their life and hopefully it's not right now as you listen in that you're going through it.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: But how do you persevere and go through things?
- 35:24[SPEAKER_01]: when it's really, really dark and deep.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I actually last week, side note, I went to, I went to prison.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: How we go?
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: Prison.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: I went to prison.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_01]: I went to prison.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what I like saying now, but it's not a good thing, but it's a great thing.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_01]: I went to prison because I met a guy named Bob Gough.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: Bob Gough wrote a book called Love Does.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: Bob Gough, who is extremely popular, well known.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: He's in San Diego, and a good friend of mine, Jodie runs his foundation.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: They have prison ministries.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: And we went to San Quitton State Prison, up in Northern California.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: And when they asked me to go, I'm like, absolutely, I would love to go up.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: Not that I've always wanted to go to prison.
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: But I told my wife, I'm like, we're going to prison.
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: I ain't going to prison.
- 36:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then we're not going to prison.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like, no, no, we have to.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_01]: We're being called to.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, we are being called to go.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: She went with me and we had a 10 of us.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think was 10.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: I go to San Quentin State Prison.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_01]: Many life lifers in prison.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_01]: And it was a life transforming experience, guys.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_01]: And Randy and Tim, when I tell you this, like,
- 36:31[SPEAKER_01]: I want our impact foundation out to do some prison ministry.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like we've been given back to mental health and suicide prevention.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_01]: I just shared that on our podcast about my wife's brother committed suicide years ago.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: So part of our foundation is for suicide prevention.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: But now I'm like, man, going in a prison,
- 36:52[SPEAKER_01]: It was a really surreal life transforming experience to work with these men who have life sentences.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_01]: And to hear their stories and how much impact they can have on people, how was inspired by them?
- 37:08[SPEAKER_01]: And they're coming to me and tears like, oh my God, you're a story of what I was sharing about live life worth telling the survey of what your story is.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: So in power, I'm like, no, no, no.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that you say someday when you get out,
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: in 10 years, because some of them have been in there for 20 plus years, I just want a wife and a child and a home.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's all I want.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_01]: I'm thinking, huh?
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: What a jerk I am.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_01]: Perspective, perspective, perspective, we've got so much.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_01]: All these guys want is freedom and a wife and a kid and a roof for their head.
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: That's all they want.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's that are dream.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: And it was all about ambitions, what you're ambition, what you're dream, and then what you're fear, what's holding you back.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like,
- 37:51[SPEAKER_01]: interesting, really interesting perspective about these guys who are spending their life or a good part of their life in prison, like, how can I do more?
- 38:01[SPEAKER_01]: What can my wife and I, what can we do to the foundation more to help back?
- 38:06[SPEAKER_01]: To me, at the end of the day, that's what it's all about, is what can we do?
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: Impact-dex performance.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_01]: We have a nonprofit side of that where we can give back and serve institutions and prisons and that aspect of like we want to, when I say be the light, it's not just like we have a light shining in the gym, like let's go out, let's get out into the communities and really, um,
- 38:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm getting choked up, but like, do good stuff, sure.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: Good stuff, like stuff that's changing the world, like, we need that.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's not just a gym.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, I love being at your gym here.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_01]: And the people here I could tell, like, great hearts and souls.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_01]: And that becomes contagious about these people leave here better people and they go out in their better husbands and wives, better parents and like, okay, let's magnify that.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_01]: Let's take all the gyms around the country around the world and like, how do we be a beacon?
- 38:59[SPEAKER_01]: Because fitness is just a way to to amplify goodness.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I guess as the older we get, I mean, I'm aging too, brother, and you start reflected on everything, right?
- 39:10[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, what's important?
- 39:12[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, when you're younger, you're just grinding it out, right?
- 39:14[SPEAKER_02]: Let's just get it done, just make some money and yeah, but as you get older, yeah, you start figuring out that, uh, man.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_02]: maybe I should be doing something else called to a bigger mission.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_02]: So, I mean, I agree, I agree with you, man, and the fact that you kind of went through all those things.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_02]: And now you just, you're open to everything, right?
- 39:30[SPEAKER_02]: You're just willing to go to the prisons.
- 39:31[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I would do it.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, it seems, it seems, it's crazy, but yeah.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I was Johnny Cash was going for a full-sum prison.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: I had been asked by Pastor Miles.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: in the early 2000s to go to prison ministry.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: And I give him excuse like five times.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't ready.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't ready.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, no, I got to work that day, or this is that I had every excuse I gave you.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_01]: I had every excuse.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_01]: But when Bob Gough asked, there wasn't a hesitation.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: I knew I needed to go.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_01]: I needed to get inside and really see, I'd never been in a prison.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_01]: And, um,
- 40:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when I think about that and even here my business partner Travis read his book and he shares his life story, which is amazing and inspirational, um, uh, it's read his book and going in prison to me was, I felt humbled, man.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_01]: I felt humbled, like, mm.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_01]: the responsibility is great to help these men and to help people who aren't yet in prison to make better choices and not do dumb things because these guys own their I mean they shared what they had done like vividly and they shared it and like we made mistakes and we're willing to pay the price where I had heard that everyone in prison is innocent and I want not one guy said that really they knew what they did they like hey this is what I did I did it and they said it and I'm like
- 40:54[SPEAKER_01]: Good for you for owning it.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, good for you for owning it.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_01]: So couldn't imagine.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: I guess I'll just share this to end that story.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_01]: But I wouldn't have the same perspective if I hadn't been through three and a half years.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: Sure.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like that time set me to where I'm at now with like very.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_01]: I've always been purpose-driven, but now it's like a mission, like, you know, it's good.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_01]: If I was to die and being around the last few weeks of all the craziness in the country or reminds me of like, man, we need good men and women out there doing good things and spreading spreading great messages and the beautiful thing about finises, it's always been like the common denominator, it brings in everyone, right?
- 41:38[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care what your political affiliation is, your religious affiliation, like,
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if it's ISP, you got the recovery aspect, and let's just be better men and women on that.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what fitness is.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what I'm being called to do with IXP is we want to grow this bad boy.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: We want to put them all over the country and plant lighthouses and make these boys and girls and men and women better people.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's fantastic.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, that saying the person who has their health has many dreams, the one that doesn't have their health has one dream.
- 42:14[SPEAKER_02]: That that was you, man.
- 42:15[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you don't realize how important feeling good is good Lord, right?
- 42:23[SPEAKER_02]: You just take it for granted.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, until one day your legs get blasted out from under your under and then you're like whoa nothing else matters, right?
- 42:30[SPEAKER_02]: You're just trying to feel better.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_02]: So In fact, you're feeling better now.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_02]: You can just be clear on everything.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's awesome.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_02]: Glad to see you doing a good talk honestly, man.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_02]: I
- 42:39[SPEAKER_02]: I look up to you and you know, I looked up to you for a long time and followed your journey and stuff and it's just, you know, thanks for sharing all that with us, man.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_02]: You didn't have to do so.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, thank you.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's a YouTube team.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: Congrats on all your success and what you're doing to change so many lives and many to come over here and see what you guys are doing.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's really inspiring.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's it's one thing at a time, but I got to say when you're going through your journey in life and and you're listening today Wherever you're at whether you're young you're older You realize who's around you is really important and who you're doing life with is is an important aspect And many times you want things to go faster.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_01]: We want to get there quick Okay, I want those hundredly ounces like next year Like sometimes it's a little probably not gonna happen like that
- 43:27[SPEAKER_01]: But, and I often try to catch myself, just pause, reflect, get some mellow yellow time and think about all the good that's out there and around us because it's really easy to find the things that aren't good and all the stuff that's going on.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_01]: So, I say congrats to you guys and what you're doing to spread so much light and again just being here at the gym, seeing it here.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: I know it goes beyond that.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but thank you guys and thanks for having me in there.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_01]: This is a lot of fun.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, good.
