- 0:00Have you ever looked at your calendar and wondered why you feel so scattered?
- 0:05Maybe you bought that cute planner or you downloaded the app. Maybe you created
- 0:10the routine and color-coded the schedule. Yet somehow life just still feels
- 0:16overwhelming. Here's a thought. What if the issue isn't organization at all?
- 0:21What if the real problem is that too many things have access to your time, energy,
- 0:27and attention? Today we're talking about how boundaries are the foundation of
- 0:32organization and why no system can bring order to life that has no limits.
- 0:40If you're tired of people-pleasing, caring too much, and wondering why peace still
- 0:45feels so hard to hold on to, you're in the right place.
- 0:49Hi, I'm Lori, mom, former people-pleaser, and your boundaries coach. Here we talk
- 0:55about how to protect your peace, set healthier boundaries, and get clear on
- 1:00what actually matters so that you can build a life that feels lighter, calmer,
- 1:04and more satisfying. So let's stop the chaos for a minute, moms. Catch our breath
- 1:09and get in to this next episode.
- 1:14Welcome back to Healthy Boundaries for Moms. I'm your host, Lori Grimes, and if
- 1:20you've ever felt like you're constantly trying to catch up, constantly
- 1:25rearranging your schedule, or constantly wondering where the day went, you're not
- 1:31alone, my friend. Many moms assume organization is about finding the right
- 1:37app, the right tool, the right planner, and those things, don't get me wrong, they can
- 1:42absolutely help. I love a good planner, but organization begins long before you
- 1:49open a planner. It begins with deciding what deserves a place in your life, and
- 1:55that's where boundaries come in. Look, most of us have been taught that
- 2:00organization is about managing more efficiently, right? But efficiency isn't
- 2:07always the solution. Sometimes the problem isn't that we're managing things
- 2:11poorly. Sometimes we're simply just carrying too much. So think about a
- 2:17closet, okay? If it's packed beyond capacity, this has been my closet for
- 2:22sure, you're buying prettier hangers, but that's not going to solve the problem, is
- 2:26it? At some point, something has to come out of that packed closet. Life works the
- 2:33same way. No planner can create margin in an already overloaded schedule, and no
- 2:41productivity hack that you find online or otherwise can compensate for those
- 2:46saying yes to way, way too many things. So organization starts by determining
- 2:53what belongs, so what's gonna stay, and what has to go. So let's take a look at
- 2:58Proverbs 25, 28. Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks
- 3:07self-control. So when Solomon wrote these words, everyone understood the value of a
- 3:13city wall. Walls provided protection. Walls established boundaries. Walls
- 3:19created security and order, and without them, anything could enter. The city
- 3:25basically became vulnerable, and the same principle applies today. Without
- 3:30boundaries, every request gets access to us and gets access to you. Every
- 3:37opportunity gets consideration, and that also means that every need is starting
- 3:43to feel urgent, and every expectation feels like you have to take on that
- 3:47responsibility, and before long, life just starts feeling chaotic. Not because
- 3:52you're incapable, and not because you're disorganized, but because there just
- 3:56aren't enough walls protecting what matters most. So let's talk numbers for a
- 4:01minute. Every single one of us gets 168 hours each week. That's incredible, right?
- 4:08It doesn't feel like we get 168 hours each week. No one gets an extra hour,
- 4:13right, and no one gets less. 168 period. So we have to start subtracting the
- 4:19essentials, right? 56 hours for sleep, 40 hours for work. Generally, we need time
- 4:26for meals, time for driving, there's got to be time to do some laundry, or some
- 4:31grocery shopping. How about the housework? Suddenly, where do those 160
- 4:36hours go? They don't seem as generous, right? So now consider this. Suppose you
- 4:41agree to one, just one extra thing every day that only takes 10 minutes. Come on,
- 4:47just 10 minutes. That can't be much, right? But over a year, 10 minutes times 365 days
- 4:55is 3,650 minutes. That's more than 60 hours, and that's eight full days. So a
- 5:05week of your life disappears. There's something that felt insignificant in the
- 5:10moment. 10 minutes doesn't feel like much, but it adds up. And so do small
- 5:16interruptions and small obligations. Every commitment occupies space on your
- 5:22calendar, and even in your mind. So one reason boundaries help us become more
- 5:29organized is because they eliminate the unnecessary decisions. When priorities
- 5:35are clear, decision-making becomes simpler, we stop debating every
- 5:40opportunity. You already know what is aligning with your values, and this is
- 5:44also stopping that decision fatigue that we've talked about on previous podcast
- 5:49episodes. So instead of reacting to every request, you already have a framework. A
- 5:54boundary might sound like, well we don't schedule activities every evening, and we
- 6:00leave one day open on the weekends. Or maybe we discuss commitments before we
- 6:05say yes, we protect family dinner. So those boundaries become your filters, and
- 6:12filters make life easier to manage. So here's where many moms are getting stuck.
- 6:19The goal isn't fitting everything in. Okay, we're not trying to play a game of
- 6:23Tetris here. The goal is making sure your time reflects your priorities. So if
- 6:30faith is a priority, a pillar, does your schedule reflect that? If I was to look
- 6:35at your schedule this week, do I see that faith is a priority? So in my own life, I
- 6:41really was convicted about that. I go to church on Sundays, but I really needed
- 6:47something else to fill in some of the needs I have in my faith journey. And so
- 6:52I signed up for a Wednesday Bible study class. Now is it forever? No, it's a
- 6:57five-week class. So it's just for the summer, but it's meeting that goal that I
- 7:01wanted for the summer, is to build in more time in my faith. So is family a
- 7:06priority? Does your calendar support that? Or how about health? If it's a priority,
- 7:11is there room for your health? Are you making time to go for walks or strength
- 7:18train or meal prep maybe? Boundaries help us close that gap between what matters
- 7:25most to us and what's receiving the most attention. That's where organization
- 7:31begins, not with the perfection and not with alignment. So without boundaries,
- 7:37organization just becomes exhausting. I mean, can I get just an amen on that? It's
- 7:43tiring. It's exhausting. We're constantly rearranging. We're constantly
- 7:47reacting. And we're trying to squeeze just one more thing into a day that's
- 7:53already full. And eventually, overwhelm shows up, right? So does resentment and
- 7:59it's friend guilt. Because when everything feels important, it's
- 8:03impossible to give your best to anything. You're getting pulled in five
- 8:07million directions. So I want you to hear, healthy boundaries aren't selfish. They
- 8:13are stewardship. We talk about that a lot on the podcast. They are stewardship. They
- 8:19protect the resources that God has entrusted to you. Your time, your energy,
- 8:25attention, relationships, and well-being. So this week, I want you to choose one
- 8:32area of life that feels disorganized. Maybe it's your schedule. Maybe it's your
- 8:37home. Maybe it's your commitment. And I want you to ask yourself, what boundary
- 8:42is missing here? Not what cute planner you need and what app you need to
- 8:48download, but what boundary would create more order and peace in your life? What
- 8:54would you need to do to protect it? And what would you need to stop allowing? One
- 9:01healthy boundary could change more than an entire new organizational system. So I
- 9:08really want you to think about that. We're not needing to buy a new calendar,
- 9:14new planner, find some fancy organization. We need to start with the basics and the
- 9:20foundation, okay? And that is what's gonna move the needle forward for us. So friend,
- 9:26organization isn't about controlling every minute of your day. I want us to
- 9:30stop thinking like that. It's about protecting what matters most. And a
- 9:35planner can hold all your priorities. And a calendar, yes, it can track your
- 9:41commitments. But boundaries are what keep those priorities from getting crowded
- 9:46out. Remember Proverbs 25-28, like a city whose walls are broken, through is a
- 9:52person who lacks self-control. Walls weren't designed to make our life
- 9:58smaller. They were designed to protect what we value most. And that is the same
- 10:03of true healthy boundaries. They create order. They create margin. And they make
- 10:09it possible to live with greater peace and intention. Friend, I want you to
- 10:13really give this mindset shift a chance and see how it helps you to better
- 10:18organize your priorities this week. Hey friend, I hope you enjoyed today's
