- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, my name's Santasha Nabananga Bamblet. I'm a proud yor
- 0:04Speaker 1: the Order Kerni Whoalbury and a waddery woman. And before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we get started on She's on the Money podcast, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land
- 0:14Speaker 1: of which this podcast is recorded on a wondery country,
- 0:18Speaker 1: acknowledging the elders, the ancestors and the next generation coming
- 0:22Speaker 1: through as this podcast is about connecting, empowering, knowledge sharing
- 0:27Speaker 1: and the storytelling of you to make a difference for
- 0:30Speaker 1: today and lasting impact for tomorrow.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Let's get into it.
- 0:34Speaker 3: She's on the Money, She's on the Money.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to She's on the Money, the podcast
- 1:00Speaker 2: that makes personal finance fun, especially on Fridays. It's actually
- 1:04Speaker 2: our favorite day of the week because we get our
- 1:07Speaker 2: little team together. It's a little bit smaller than usual,
- 1:09Speaker 2: but we get our little team together and celebrate you
- 1:12Speaker 2: our incredible She's on the Money community today, mister Scricci.
- 1:16Speaker 2: She's actually off sick, so I'm going to be sharing
- 1:18Speaker 2: her money. Wins Beck. You're here though, I am, yeah,
- 1:21Speaker 2: which is very lucky because I don't want to do
- 1:23Speaker 2: a solo Friday episode, it'll be so lonely, but you're
- 1:27Speaker 2: going to be sharing your brogue tips and we're going
- 1:29Speaker 2: to be helping to answer a money dilemma, which this
- 1:31Speaker 2: week is all about whether you should uproot your life
- 1:34Speaker 2: for a fifty thousand dollars bonus and your partner won't
- 1:38Speaker 2: budge on it and something that you slid into our
- 1:41Speaker 2: dms about this week, we're talking about a ten thousand
- 1:43Speaker 2: dollar payout that's on the table. Is that enough or
- 1:47Speaker 2: should she be fighting for more?
- 1:48Speaker 4: Those sounds so both of them sound juicy.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I feel like the second one sounds really juicy because
- 1:53Speaker 2: we need to know why there's ten thousand, what's going
- 1:57Speaker 2: on there? But also like fifty thousand bonus hmmm, I
- 2:01Speaker 2: think I would.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Honestly, I don't even know what it is.
- 2:03Speaker 2: But what if your partner was like, absolutely not. Well,
- 2:08Speaker 2: we're going to get into it later. Okay, we're going
- 2:09Speaker 2: to get into it later, but before we get there, Beck,
- 2:12Speaker 2: this has become my favorite ego stroking session. Yes, ever, yes,
- 2:18Speaker 2: we're going to read out another five star review of
- 2:21Speaker 2: the show, and like we've had a few coming in
- 2:24Speaker 2: and I love it. If you haven't left a review
- 2:26Speaker 2: of the show. It really does help us, it does.
- 2:28Speaker 2: It helps to put the podcast in people's vision.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Right.
- 2:32Speaker 2: So we want to grow our community. We want more
- 2:34Speaker 2: Shees on the Money friends, and this is a really
- 2:36Speaker 2: good way of doing that. But be what is the
- 2:38Speaker 2: five star review that you are going to read out
- 2:40Speaker 2: this week?
- 2:41Speaker 4: Okay? I do have to say looking for these and
- 2:44Speaker 4: trying to dodge the really mean ones, Oh my.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Gosh, why are people so nasty? Though? It is so true.
- 2:51Speaker 2: I'm sorry that my voice is annoying, but it's actually
- 2:54Speaker 2: something I can't change. Yes, well, let's speak like this true.
- 2:59Speaker 4: I can get you on some soosterone.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you. That would be very kind, very generous,
- 3:04Speaker 2: very not aligned to my values at this point in life. Sure,
- 3:07Speaker 2: should they change, I'll hit you up easy? Okay, great?
- 3:10Speaker 2: You what today?
- 3:12Speaker 4: I've got one from KB who says listening and putting
- 3:14Speaker 4: good habits in place makes me feel so adulty as
- 3:17Speaker 4: I should at thirty two years old. Love this, potty.
- 3:19Speaker 2: I love that I'm thirty three and I don't feel
- 3:22Speaker 2: like an adult.
- 3:23Speaker 4: No same, I'm thirty two.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I'm just a teenage mum. Like that's me. I'm just
- 3:27Speaker 2: a teenager. Really, are. I just don't know how life
- 3:30Speaker 2: is happening to me like this, Like it all just
- 3:32Speaker 2: happened like wild.
- 3:33Speaker 4: You know, the age just keeps on growing. But it's
- 3:35Speaker 4: like I don't think mentally I've changed adult. No.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Also, at what point do we feel like adults? Do
- 3:41Speaker 2: you remember when you were like young and you'd see
- 3:43Speaker 2: your parents, you'd be like very serious adults?
- 3:45Speaker 1: All wow, wow?
- 3:47Speaker 2: Am I that serious adult? Now? I don't know, because
- 3:51Speaker 2: like I see other adults at the supermarket and I'm like,
- 3:53Speaker 2: way too missure for me.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Yeah, like those are adults exactly. I just think you
- 3:58Speaker 4: either got it you don't.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I don't. We don't got it, got it? We don't
- 4:02Speaker 2: got it? Like physical age thirty three, mental age three yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I have one and I've purposely picked it because it's
- 4:11Speaker 2: about Tasmania, OK, and That's where I'm from. So she said.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I've loved She's on the Money since I first came
- 4:17Speaker 2: across it, and I have all of the books and
- 4:19Speaker 2: I'm working my way through the podcasts and masterclass. The
- 4:22Speaker 2: absolute girl power that emanates from Victoria and the She's
- 4:25Speaker 2: on the Money crew is so empowering. Finance doesn't have
- 4:28Speaker 2: to be something for the Wall Street bros. And I
- 4:30Speaker 2: now already feel so much more empowered to take control
- 4:33Speaker 2: of my future in the two issues of interacting with
- 4:36Speaker 2: She's on the money, I've transformed things already. I have
- 4:39Speaker 2: an emergency fund, I've been bucketing my finances, I have
- 4:42Speaker 2: a clear budget, and I am learning to invest. And
- 4:45Speaker 2: then I found out V is a tazzy girl. We know, literacy,
- 4:49Speaker 2: whether it's medical, educational, or financial, is sadly very poor
- 4:53Speaker 2: in Tasmania. So I just love to see a tazzy
- 4:56Speaker 2: girl giving back. That is Isn't that so cute.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Comprehensive, That is so good?
- 5:01Speaker 2: I love it. No, finance isn't for the Wall Strep bros.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Totally.
- 5:05Speaker 2: I visited Wall Street kind of boring TVH was it? Yeah,
- 5:09Speaker 2: there was like a ball statue. I did get a
- 5:11Speaker 2: picture with that because if you know, you know what statue,
- 5:14Speaker 2: it's there's like a bull the wall, Like it's a
- 5:16Speaker 2: big bull like bronze statue. Yeah, we did a whole
- 5:19Speaker 2: series on it. Turns out it costs like hundreds of
- 5:21Speaker 2: thousands of dollars. I said, of course it did. But
- 5:24Speaker 2: there's literally not one thing that's interesting about being a
- 5:26Speaker 2: wall streep.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Bro I see. Were they like papers flying and like
- 5:29Speaker 4: phone ringing?
- 5:30Speaker 2: No, they were just really mediocre, middle aged white men
- 5:33Speaker 2: walking around, just like going to work and stuff.
- 5:36Speaker 4: I see.
- 5:36Speaker 2: It's also a pret It was like, is that oh
- 5:38Speaker 2: my gosh, Prett in the US and the UK incredible.
- 5:42Speaker 2: It's like all of the good things from seven to eleven,
- 5:45Speaker 2: like all of the food, all of the sandwiches, all
- 5:47Speaker 2: of the drinks. But it's just a shop for snacks Prett. Yeah,
- 5:50Speaker 2: and they do get these coffee subscriptions, so beck you
- 5:53Speaker 2: could have a coffee subscription and get as many coffees
- 5:56Speaker 2: as you wanted in a month. I think that's that figure.
- 5:59Speaker 2: That's a good deal.
- 5:59Speaker 4: That is a good deal. It depends on much it is.
- 6:01Speaker 2: It's really reasonable. I can't remember the price, but like
- 6:04Speaker 2: let's say it was like sixty bucks for the month
- 6:05Speaker 2: or something. That's like it's real, hinged good.
- 6:08Speaker 4: Yeah, that's real.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Because I did the mask and I was like I
- 6:10Speaker 2: would fly through that. I would fly through that anyway.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Advantage anyway, let's jump in miss Jessica Ricci. She's away
- 6:18Speaker 2: this week. She's under the weather, so we kind of
- 6:21Speaker 2: banned her from the studio, we said, we don't want
- 6:23Speaker 2: you here if you're under the weather. We want you
- 6:25Speaker 2: to stay in bed. So I went ahead and picked
- 6:28Speaker 2: my favorite money wins from the community instead. So first
- 6:32Speaker 2: one up is from our friend Amanda. She said, when
- 6:35Speaker 2: the supermarket mislabels a product as twenty two for sixteen
- 6:39Speaker 2: dollars instead of two for sixteen dollars, and you clear
- 6:43Speaker 2: out their stock and make them honor the ticket price
- 6:45Speaker 2: or two hundred bucks saved.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Oh my god, that's hechtic.
- 6:50Speaker 2: That actually makes me laugh so much because it's obviously
- 6:53Speaker 2: an error. But she's like, you know what, the supermarket
- 6:57Speaker 2: has made literal billions this year. I think you can
- 6:59Speaker 2: take this hit.
- 7:01Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true actually, And two hundred and.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Forty five people from our community liked that post.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Amazing.
- 7:06Speaker 2: And those are the these are the I don't know
- 7:08Speaker 2: what these are. Do you know what these are?
- 7:09Speaker 1: Yes?
- 7:10Speaker 2: Of course, Oh my god.
- 7:11Speaker 4: I'm constantly perpetually in the protein aisle. And those look
- 7:14Speaker 4: like those little they're very expensive. There's little balls.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that was very expensive. So they look like protein balls.
- 7:20Speaker 2: It says four protein and probiotic field balls any two
- 7:24Speaker 2: for sixteen dollars. But the spelling Mistakes has twenty two
- 7:28Speaker 2: for sixteen dollars.
- 7:29Speaker 4: That is an incredible that's a good deal money.
- 7:33Speaker 2: She could have got more, but at the end of
- 7:34Speaker 2: the day, she just cleared them all out. She took
- 7:37Speaker 2: what she couldn't She ran, Oh, isn't that iconic?
- 7:40Speaker 4: That's great?
- 7:41Speaker 2: Okay, So next one. I don't know if you guys
- 7:43Speaker 2: have been following along, but this week I have been
- 7:46Speaker 2: on an epic rant about multi level marketing companies. Yes,
- 7:50Speaker 2: how predatory and deceptive they are. How I want to
- 7:53Speaker 2: make sure that people in our community are protected but
- 7:55Speaker 2: educated about them, because I'm all about you making the
- 7:57Speaker 2: right decision for you. But I get so frustrated when
- 8:01Speaker 2: I see women putting themselves out in a position where Becky,
- 8:05Speaker 2: you know how hard it is to make content. You
- 8:07Speaker 2: work in content, To get in front of a camera
- 8:09Speaker 2: and post on Instagram about a product, about a service,
- 8:12Speaker 2: about your business is hard work. These women are doing
- 8:16Speaker 2: this but putting themselves behind long term, so it actually
- 8:20Speaker 2: kills me. But this week Holly's money Win. She says,
- 8:25Speaker 2: money Win didn't join a multi level marketing as a
- 8:28Speaker 2: new mum looking for side hustles. Good you know, you
- 8:31Speaker 2: know yeah, and I laughed so hard, like, Holly, you're
- 8:35Speaker 2: a real one. I have a money win from Sophie.
- 8:38Speaker 2: She said, I bought my wedding alcohol from Dan Murphy's
- 8:41Speaker 2: and everything that was unopened and not refrigerated can be returned,
- 8:45Speaker 2: So we have eight hundred bucks back in our pockets.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Oh that is great, so smart eight hundred bucks.
- 8:52Speaker 2: I know, and like, you wouldn't have got a refund
- 8:54Speaker 2: for that otherwise.
- 8:55Speaker 4: Yeah, totally.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Wedding venues aren't going to cough that up for you
- 8:58Speaker 2: if you didn't drink them out of house and home.
- 9:00Speaker 4: Absolutely, that is so good. And to have that in
- 9:02Speaker 4: the back of your mind, like, oh, I'm going to
- 9:03Speaker 4: purposely not refrigerate these and.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. But also making sure that you
- 9:08Speaker 2: know that you know, you didn't get to the venue
- 9:11Speaker 2: and the bar stuff just opened to every slab and
- 9:13Speaker 2: put it in an ice pocket or something so small.
- 9:16Speaker 4: That is clever. It's very clever.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I have another one from Gabrielle, which is really I
- 9:21Speaker 2: have another one from Gabrielle, which for me is really
- 9:24Speaker 2: relevant because if you followed me on social media, you
- 9:27Speaker 2: know I am meant to be renovating my front garden
- 9:30Speaker 2: at the moment, Peck and my husband and I'm not
- 9:32Speaker 2: paying for demo. It's not happening, SUI Like, I feel
- 9:36Speaker 2: like you can't mess up demo that bad.
- 9:38Speaker 4: Like demo would be fun.
- 9:39Speaker 2: It is fun, but also like once you've knocked down
- 9:41Speaker 2: the fun things, like you then have to like weep
- 9:44Speaker 2: the whole garden and pull out bricks and stuff. But
- 9:46Speaker 2: it's fine because it's free. Beck, but my landscaping quote
- 9:50Speaker 2: came back at a significantly higher amount. So I've actually
- 9:53Speaker 2: just parked it and been like, absolutely not. I will
- 9:55Speaker 2: revisit that when I have the mental capacity. So currently
- 9:58Speaker 2: my front yard looks barren. You know when you like
- 10:02Speaker 2: get halfway through a project and then you're.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Like, we actually don't want to do this anymore.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Yeah, But like I didn't want to do it because Beck,
- 10:08Speaker 2: the quote was astronomical. It turns out Gabrielle's having the
- 10:11Speaker 2: same thing. She said, we got quoted for landscaping forty
- 10:15Speaker 2: one thousand dollars two our yard excavated top soil and grass.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Went ahead and got another quote which was thirty eight
- 10:22Speaker 2: thousand dollars. But then I went to the local nursery
- 10:25Speaker 2: and got prices for the materials to do it ourselves
- 10:28Speaker 2: much cheaper, and found a local business that will excavate,
- 10:32Speaker 2: supply and lay all of the top soil for only
- 10:35Speaker 2: five grand. Oh great. We ordered the grass from a
- 10:38Speaker 2: turf company which will be five and a half grand,
- 10:40Speaker 2: which will lay ourselves. So instead of spending thirty eight
- 10:43Speaker 2: to forty one thousand dollars, it's costing US ten and
- 10:45Speaker 2: a half grand. Oh perfect, isn't that good?
- 10:48Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 10:48Speaker 2: I actually need to hit you up, Gabrielle, because I
- 10:51Speaker 2: currently am in that situation. They're oh my gosh, the audacity.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Oh that's wild, but so expensive, Like it's exercise, it's
- 11:00Speaker 4: getting on the sud and I'm.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Happy to do it ourselves. But at the same time,
- 11:04Speaker 2: it's this, as you know, I'm a finance girlie. It's
- 11:07Speaker 2: the balance between understanding property value then not over capitalizing
- 11:11Speaker 2: on a property that you've purchased, because you know, let's
- 11:14Speaker 2: say that the quote that I got was fifty thousand
- 11:16Speaker 2: dollars to have my front yard done, which is about
- 11:18Speaker 2: what it was. Actually, Am I making a smart money
- 11:22Speaker 2: decision by investing fifty thousand dollars in doing up the
- 11:25Speaker 2: front yard? Like would it actually add value to our property,
- 11:28Speaker 2: or would just tidying it up and you know, painting
- 11:30Speaker 2: the front of the house and planting some new plants
- 11:32Speaker 2: that we do ourselves basically add the same value. Yeah,
- 11:36Speaker 2: So you've got to balance it. And I feel like
- 11:38Speaker 2: so many times, especially as a property owner, you get
- 11:41Speaker 2: so excited about like, oh my gosh, I'm going to
- 11:43Speaker 2: do this and this, that you forget to look at
- 11:45Speaker 2: what the value of the property is and what value
- 11:48Speaker 2: you're adding to make sure that it stays a good investment. Yeah,
- 11:51Speaker 2: because it's so easy to just spiral and go, oh
- 11:53Speaker 2: my gosh, no, I really want to put in fancy
- 11:54Speaker 2: kitchen or I really want a new bathroom, But you
- 11:57Speaker 2: need to zoom out a little bit and look at
- 11:59Speaker 2: the market and go, Okay, well if I put in
- 12:01Speaker 2: a new bathroom and the intention is to lease out
- 12:03Speaker 2: this house, how much additional value am I going to
- 12:05Speaker 2: get from this?
- 12:06Speaker 4: Incredible?
- 12:07Speaker 2: Very hard anyway, moving one, queen mate, it's all I
- 12:11Speaker 2: think about and breathe. I actually, no, that's not true.
- 12:14Speaker 2: All I think about nowadays is multi level marketing. I
- 12:17Speaker 2: have another money in from Janine, she said with the
- 12:21Speaker 2: CBA glitch recently, I decided to check all of my
- 12:23Speaker 2: accounts that I don't use and I haven't closed yet.
- 12:26Speaker 2: I found two hundred and ninety six dollars in my
- 12:29Speaker 2: ing account from AHM give backs and Sentling CSS payouts
- 12:34Speaker 2: that I'd paid more than I should have. I guess incredible.
- 12:37Speaker 2: It was like the equivalent of finding fifty bucks in
- 12:40Speaker 2: a random pair of pants for me.
- 12:41Speaker 4: God that feels.
- 12:42Speaker 2: It also reminded me to change my bank account. It
- 12:45Speaker 2: also reminded me I have to change my bank account
- 12:47Speaker 2: for my health insurance and my Centralink payments. Oh perfect,
- 12:50Speaker 2: I love this, But also two hundred and eighty six bucks. Yeah, girl,
- 12:54Speaker 2: that's some groceries and a few nice drinks.
- 12:56Speaker 4: Like God, yeah, that'll save you.
- 12:58Speaker 2: I love that all right. I have one more. This
- 13:00Speaker 2: is a fun one. This is from Ebony. She said.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I've been eyeing off Devotion by Dolsha Anger Barner, but
- 13:06Speaker 2: held out because of how pricey the perfume was. I
- 13:10Speaker 2: looked it up again the other day because I noticed
- 13:12Speaker 2: my current perfume was running out. Turns out that the
- 13:14Speaker 2: one hundred mil bottle was on sale for half price
- 13:17Speaker 2: at price Line and chemist Warehouse, but still full price
- 13:20Speaker 2: at my own David Jones. So babies run, don't walk.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, that's great.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Like you, isn't that cute? Also, I'm not buying it
- 13:30Speaker 2: full price. No, don't buy anything for people per full price. Actually,
- 13:35Speaker 2: I feel like it's illegal.
- 13:36Speaker 4: It should be illegal, Yes, it should be illegal. Yeah,
- 13:39Speaker 4: I mean I feel like that kind of stuff always
- 13:41Speaker 4: is on sales. Somewhere somewhere, you're find.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Somewhere somehow you're going to get a money wally need
- 13:45Speaker 2: to look for it.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Aham actually gave me cash back. I don't know that's
- 13:48Speaker 4: what give deal. I really don't know why. I just
- 13:50Speaker 4: got one hundred bucks randomly. And I'm not asking questions but.
- 13:53Speaker 2: No, no questions, only answers. Thank you for your money,
- 13:55Speaker 2: than you for your money on exactly. That's a good
- 13:58Speaker 2: broake tip. Check your actual bank account.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Yeah, that's very true.
- 14:01Speaker 2: I should not be giving the broke tips because that
- 14:03Speaker 2: was a terrible one. Bet you have some good broke
- 14:06Speaker 2: tips for us.
- 14:06Speaker 4: This way I do I do good is subjective, but
- 14:09Speaker 4: hopefully these are.
- 14:10Speaker 2: You know what it is. It's subjective. But at the
- 14:11Speaker 2: end of the day, I just think everything you do
- 14:13Speaker 2: is good, So turn out tell you.
- 14:14Speaker 4: That's so sweet to our listeners think the same. Okay,
- 14:17Speaker 4: this first one comes from a Lissa who gave me
- 14:19Speaker 4: really good broke tips. So this is more for like,
- 14:21Speaker 4: if you want to go for like an outing, or
- 14:23Speaker 4: you want to take someone out for their birthday, but
- 14:25Speaker 4: you don't want to spend any money. I don't know
- 14:27Speaker 4: if you remember. I mean when I say remember, this
- 14:30Speaker 4: is ongoing. This has been a thing back of the
- 14:32Speaker 4: day and still today. But if you go to a
- 14:35Speaker 4: show with a live audience and you get someone a ticket,
- 14:38Speaker 4: yourself and your friend a ticket, it's usually free. Usually really,
- 14:43Speaker 4: if you're going to like a live show, and I
- 14:45Speaker 4: think it's good for both parties for free.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Is that what you mean?
- 14:49Speaker 4: You could ask, You could ask, but I'm thinking more
- 14:51Speaker 4: like the project or you know what I mean.
- 14:55Speaker 2: You know how mad I am. This is niche content.
- 14:59Speaker 2: But I applied to be in the audience for thank
- 15:01Speaker 2: God You're Here. Oh that would be good. It was
- 15:03Speaker 2: like twelve months ago. Gabby and I. So, Gabby's my
- 15:06Speaker 2: old ea. She and I, well, let's go. We really
- 15:10Speaker 2: want to be in the audience for thank God You're Here. Like,
- 15:12Speaker 2: I can't think of a better show to get an
- 15:14Speaker 2: audience for We Got It. I was on holiday at
- 15:17Speaker 2: the time. Oh no, they wouldn't let Gabby transfer tickets.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Oh I see, so she went by herself. She's like,
- 15:23Speaker 2: night of my life. It would be so much fun.
- 15:26Speaker 2: And God, you're here though, that.
- 15:27Speaker 4: Would be a great one to see likely but that's
- 15:30Speaker 4: a good thing.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Sign up for all of those and you can go
- 15:33Speaker 2: to the show for free, for free, and.
- 15:35Speaker 4: It's such a fun night out. And if you want to,
- 15:38Speaker 4: you know, get make food at home, or you want
- 15:40Speaker 4: to go to seven to eleven, grab yourself a really
- 15:41Speaker 4: cheap sushi. You don't have to spend that much money
- 15:44Speaker 4: to have. Honestly, one of the best nights ever.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Also, it's coming into summer, so low key picnic dates
- 15:50Speaker 2: are back.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Picnic dates are back, exactly back.
- 15:53Speaker 2: My mother's group has been doing that a lot, so
- 15:55Speaker 2: that's very cute. I have a day off a week
- 15:57Speaker 2: to hang out with Harvey, and it happens be on
- 16:00Speaker 2: the day that Mother's group happens, which is very very lucky.
- 16:03Speaker 2: But we've been just taking some picnic blankets to the park,
- 16:06Speaker 2: packing a few snacks in our bags, and just hanging
- 16:09Speaker 2: out in the park for a couple of hours. It
- 16:10Speaker 2: is elite.
- 16:11Speaker 4: It's very cute, so wholesome. And I always say, when
- 16:14Speaker 4: you're in the elements, you're a little bit sillier, and
- 16:17Speaker 4: you have.
- 16:18Speaker 2: A little bit silly when you have.
- 16:19Speaker 4: A fire, when you're sitting on the grass, when you're
- 16:21Speaker 4: in the wind, in the water, silly and fun.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Kids for some reason are just happier outside, absolutely mad
- 16:30Speaker 2: outside who love it exactly exactly. What else have you got?
- 16:33Speaker 4: This is one that my friend told me about. And
- 16:36Speaker 4: on Reddit, there is a subreddit I think that's what
- 16:39Speaker 4: you call it. It's called yeah Ossie frugal and in
- 16:44Speaker 4: Ossie Frugal and I can give you the link to
- 16:46Speaker 4: this as a thread that it's updated fortnightly food box
- 16:50Speaker 4: slash mill kit referral thread in the genius Yeah, and
- 16:55Speaker 4: so you can. But I did have a little squizz.
- 16:57Speaker 4: It's not just food kits, it's there was other things
- 17:00Speaker 4: like coupon's and all this kind of stuff.
- 17:02Speaker 2: So being involved in the community like.
- 17:04Speaker 4: That, yeah, yeah, And it's like it's pinned, so if
- 17:06Speaker 4: you if you search Aussie frugal reddit, it'll be at
- 17:09Speaker 4: the top of it should be at the top. They're
- 17:11Speaker 4: all close to the top. And yeah, just go in
- 17:14Speaker 4: there and see if you can find like any kind
- 17:16Speaker 4: of food box or whatever whatever you've got. Yeah, it
- 17:19Speaker 4: was really fine. I almost just spent like hours on
- 17:22Speaker 4: the scening night and meant to be working.
- 17:23Speaker 2: That's okay. It was research.
- 17:24Speaker 4: It was research.
- 17:25Speaker 2: It was research, was research for your business.
- 17:27Speaker 4: It was really really cool.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Like how I've been going down rabbit holes on TikTok
- 17:31Speaker 2: watching m LM videos. It's for work hours, for work exactly.
- 17:37Speaker 4: Help you're doing overtime and we appreciate you for it.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you. I do go above and beyond.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I can't wait to give you the next update about that.
- 17:45Speaker 2: But Beck, what's your breake tip?
- 17:47Speaker 4: Okay, so my one. I'm not sure if I might
- 17:49Speaker 4: have mentioned already, but it was just as my partner's birthday,
- 17:52Speaker 4: just on the weekend.
- 17:53Speaker 2: I did see that. I was very cute. Your posts
- 17:55Speaker 2: on Instagram were very wholesome. Thank you much, very couplely.
- 17:59Speaker 4: I was like a couple of oh my god, it's
- 18:01Speaker 4: really getting real. I mean, you know, it is real.
- 18:04Speaker 4: We went to Dalesford and I am I just don't
- 18:07Speaker 4: really say capital.
- 18:08Speaker 2: It is the capital capital that makes sense, that makes sense.
- 18:11Speaker 4: Rainbow flags everywhere, and we just felt so like we
- 18:14Speaker 4: wanted to go somewherehere we could hold hands up being
- 18:15Speaker 4: like yelled at or something. I don't know, I'm just
- 18:17Speaker 4: really scared of that.
- 18:17Speaker 2: So is that a thing still?
- 18:19Speaker 4: Every now and then it's like someone will maybe say
- 18:22Speaker 4: something under their breath, or people will just stare or something.
- 18:23Speaker 4: It's just very like I think I'm more conscious of.
- 18:26Speaker 2: It then I'm so angry for you.
- 18:27Speaker 4: Thank you so much. I'm just like, maybe I'm just
- 18:29Speaker 4: hyper aware of it. I mean, it's not even the
- 18:31Speaker 4: fact that.
- 18:32Speaker 2: You have to be hyper aware of the person that
- 18:34Speaker 2: you're holding hands like.
- 18:35Speaker 5: What I know.
- 18:36Speaker 4: I know it's it is like it's probably not as
- 18:38Speaker 4: big anymore, but it's like it's still every now and
- 18:41Speaker 4: then you'll you'll it just feel like comfortable. But anyway, Dalesford,
- 18:43Speaker 4: I'm sorry, that's real shit. Thank you so much. It's talking.
- 18:47Speaker 4: Dalesford was lovely though, like, of course, I'm so so
- 18:50Speaker 4: at home there. Did you go for a walk around
- 18:51Speaker 4: the lake? I've been hearing about this lake. I never
- 18:54Speaker 4: saw any lake.
- 18:56Speaker 2: That's like a free activity. That lake is stunning.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Okay, that's good to know.
- 19:01Speaker 2: What's your actual broak.
- 19:02Speaker 4: I need to go to Leven Duela. It's really beautiful.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Way, it's beautiful too.
- 19:06Speaker 4: I bought Jess's birthday gifts too early in advance and
- 19:09Speaker 4: have no self control, so it gave them to her before.
- 19:13Speaker 2: And so I was like, how do I do this?
- 19:14Speaker 2: I thought I was genius. I bought Harvey's Christmas present
- 19:17Speaker 2: here that we're.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Going to have exactly exactly. That's another broke tip by
- 19:21Speaker 4: the present right before the last minute, because I just
- 19:26Speaker 4: there's no way anyone has that I can't. And so
- 19:30Speaker 4: I was like, Okay, how do I do this cheaply?
- 19:32Speaker 4: So I just bought calistic scissors and I feel like
- 19:35Speaker 4: I always talk about being crafty, but I bought some
- 19:38Speaker 4: paper as well, and I think all that cost me
- 19:40Speaker 4: three dollars. I made a handmade box. Inside were little
- 19:44Speaker 4: like love hearts that it turned into envelopes, and in
- 19:47Speaker 4: there were just like a bunch of little letters or
- 19:49Speaker 4: like all the things I love about you, and that
- 19:51Speaker 4: in itself is like a perfect gift.
- 19:54Speaker 2: And it was yes, yeah, Like I have a beautiful
- 19:58Speaker 2: husband that I'm very great for. He would never, oh,
- 20:02Speaker 2: he would never.
- 20:04Speaker 4: I will.
- 20:07Speaker 2: Honestly straight, it's not a choice back.
- 20:10Speaker 4: I'm starting to see this.
- 20:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not.
- 20:14Speaker 4: Well for if he is listening, and if he's not,
- 20:18Speaker 4: well that's a shade. But tell him if you have
- 20:20Speaker 4: everyone's out of money or just doesn't want to spend
- 20:22Speaker 4: that much on you.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Actually would prefer a gift like that and then like
- 20:28Speaker 2: a super expensive one like to me, the idea that
- 20:31Speaker 2: someone wrote all the things that they love about me
- 20:34Speaker 2: on Little Love be for real. That's so cute and wholesome.
- 20:40Speaker 4: And honestly, the reason why it's a breake tip is
- 20:42Speaker 4: because it literally costs me like three dollars.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Maybe may probably do it with stuff around your house.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Absolutely, like magazines or whatever, whatever crafty stuff you've got
- 20:50Speaker 4: around your house. It doesn't even have that have to
- 20:53Speaker 4: cost anything.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Really, you could see a print of paper from work,
- 20:56Speaker 2: printed paper from.
- 20:56Speaker 4: Work exactly they go. So that is my brain.
- 21:00Speaker 2: That's a really sweet get tifty.
- 21:02Speaker 4: I love it. Thank you so much.
- 21:03Speaker 2: All right, let's go to a really quick break because
- 21:05Speaker 2: as much as I love hearing about your love life,
- 21:07Speaker 2: I really want to hear about your thoughts about what
- 21:09Speaker 2: you would do if offered a fifty thousand dollar bonus
- 21:13Speaker 2: and your partner wasn't on board with moving because of it.
- 21:15Speaker 2: And I also want to talk about the DM that
- 21:17Speaker 2: we got this week, which is about a ten thousand
- 21:20Speaker 2: dollar payout that's on the table, but we don't know
- 21:22Speaker 2: if it's enough or if she should be fighting for
- 21:24Speaker 2: more because we don't have enough context yet, So let's
- 21:27Speaker 2: talk about it on the flip side.
- 21:28Speaker 4: Okay, welcome back everyone. Here's our money dilemma.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 21:39Speaker 2: can't solve that. She's on the Money Team is here
- 21:41Speaker 2: to help. Every week we tackle your dilemmas, both big
- 21:45Speaker 2: and small, to answer your most burning money, career and
- 21:47Speaker 2: life questions. To get involved, simply head to our website
- 21:51Speaker 2: and leave us a short voice recording and you might
- 21:53Speaker 2: just find yourself on the show. Now, let's take a
- 21:55Speaker 2: listen to this week's money dilemma.
- 22:00Speaker 5: The money. So my money a limit is I have
- 22:03Speaker 5: been with my partner for four years. We aren't married,
- 22:05Speaker 5: we don't own a house, we're not financially set up,
- 22:09Speaker 5: and I got offered an amazing opportunity with my job.
- 22:12Speaker 5: So with that I would get paid fifty thousand dollars
- 22:16Speaker 5: tax free if I relocate out rural and work there
- 22:20Speaker 5: for the year. When I spoke to my partner about it,
- 22:23Speaker 5: he was quite negative, said he wasn't prepared to move
- 22:28Speaker 5: because he will have to find a new job. He
- 22:30Speaker 5: doesn't want to sacrifice his life here. So it puts
- 22:34Speaker 5: me in a tricky situation. Yeah, what do you think
- 22:37Speaker 5: I should do?
- 22:37Speaker 2: What do you reckon?
- 22:38Speaker 4: Back? It is a tricky one because I can understand
- 22:40Speaker 4: not wanting to move, not wanting to give up your
- 22:42Speaker 4: lifestyle and stuff. It is just for a year, but
- 22:44Speaker 4: it still feels like a big amount of time, a
- 22:48Speaker 4: long time to spend away from family and friends in
- 22:50Speaker 4: your life. But I guess the risk is that, like,
- 22:52Speaker 4: if your partner can't find a job, then that fifty
- 22:55Speaker 4: k you must go towards supporting you both, you know
- 22:59Speaker 4: what I mean. So I'm like, if your partner, you
- 23:03Speaker 4: know what, I know, it's crazy. But if it were
- 23:07Speaker 4: my situation, I would suggest long distance for the year,
- 23:12Speaker 4: but every month visit each other, or do like two
- 23:16Speaker 4: weeks and two weeks here. It depends on the working situation.
- 23:18Speaker 4: If the partner can do work from home, then you
- 23:20Speaker 4: could conceivably, if it's not too expensive, just kind of
- 23:24Speaker 4: go back and forth for the year until or just
- 23:28Speaker 4: do like a month.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I don't know. It doesn't have to do.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Your partner doesn't have to do the whole year, is
- 23:32Speaker 4: what I'm saying. But the risk is there that if
- 23:35Speaker 4: your partner moved with you couldn't find a job. There
- 23:37Speaker 4: goes at fifty K.
- 23:39Speaker 2: You know what I mean in percon and I think
- 23:41Speaker 2: that that's what's really important to consider. Yeah, like my advice,
- 23:47Speaker 2: you're going to be surprised about this, beeck when in
- 23:49Speaker 2: doubt zoom out? Yes, sorry, what are you currently earning?
- 23:53Speaker 2: What's your partner currently earning? I think this is probably
- 23:56Speaker 2: a bigger question. I don't know. I feel like the
- 23:59Speaker 2: way she framed the question was like, we've been together
- 24:01Speaker 2: for four years, we're not married. We haven't, you know,
- 24:04Speaker 2: financially set ourselves up together. I feel like you're thinking
- 24:08Speaker 2: about the bigger picture, and it's probably time to have
- 24:10Speaker 2: a conversation with your partner about the bigger picture. Like,
- 24:13Speaker 2: let's zoom out, what does the next ten years together
- 24:16Speaker 2: look like? Are we planning on staying together? I know
- 24:18Speaker 2: that that's a really big discussion, and I'm not going
- 24:21Speaker 2: to turn around and be like beg so should I
- 24:23Speaker 2: just move? Like are we done? Like that's not the conversation,
- 24:26Speaker 2: but like, are we planning on getting married? Fifty thousand
- 24:29Speaker 2: dollars tax free is a heap of money if we
- 24:31Speaker 2: put that in perspective. If you're on a thirty two
- 24:33Speaker 2: and a half percent tax, right, that's a sixty six
- 24:36Speaker 2: thousand dollars salary. Yes, So to be able to save
- 24:39Speaker 2: one hundred percent of that and have it deposited in
- 24:41Speaker 2: your account, you'd need to probably earn way more than that.
- 24:44Speaker 2: That's going to take you a number of years to
- 24:45Speaker 2: bank up. Like most people don't even have access to
- 24:49Speaker 2: five hundred dollars in an emergency. So to me, this
- 24:52Speaker 2: could potentially be a life changing amount of money. And
- 24:55Speaker 2: if you're in this situation, you're like, well, actually, I'd
- 24:58Speaker 2: love to have fifty grand in my bank account and
- 24:59Speaker 2: I'm going to go do this job where I'm going
- 25:02Speaker 2: to earn a really good income. This could put me
- 25:04Speaker 2: significantly ahead. I don't want you to say no to
- 25:07Speaker 2: this opportunity. For some dude, that's not going to be
- 25:10Speaker 2: your future. If we're being brutally honest, Like I don't
- 25:14Speaker 2: mean to be rude about it, but like if you've
- 25:16Speaker 2: been together for four years, Like are we staying together
- 25:18Speaker 2: or were planning on purchasing property together? Are we planning
- 25:20Speaker 2: on you know, getting married At some point you don't
- 25:23Speaker 2: have to do any of those things if they're not
- 25:25Speaker 2: in your value set, that's fine. But like if it
- 25:28Speaker 2: was me and I go back to where my husband
- 25:30Speaker 2: and I weren't married and didn't have a house deposit,
- 25:32Speaker 2: if you'd put fifty grands on the table and said
- 25:34Speaker 2: that you have to work remotely, I kind of would
- 25:36Speaker 2: have been like, oh, yeah, okay, Like that is my
- 25:39Speaker 2: house deposit, that is my whole wedding paid for, Like
- 25:42Speaker 2: do you know what I mean? Like those are life
- 25:44Speaker 2: changing amounts of money. Definitely, fifty thousand dollars invested, Like
- 25:48Speaker 2: be for real, that's so much. BEG.
- 25:50Speaker 4: That's true.
- 25:51Speaker 2: So I'm not saying do it, but I do want
- 25:54Speaker 2: you to have a bigger discussion because if it is
- 25:56Speaker 2: you and him against the world, and you are going
- 25:58Speaker 2: to be together forever and that's the plan, but then
- 26:01Speaker 2: you know, let's say he earns one hundred and ten
- 26:03Speaker 2: thousand dollars a year moving regionally, you lose that income.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Maybe it's not worth it for both of you and
- 26:08Speaker 2: that's okay, But if the bigger picture is that you're like, oh,
- 26:12Speaker 2: we've been together four years and the additional context is
- 26:16Speaker 2: we're not married because we don't really want to marry
- 26:18Speaker 2: each other. Like, I think you need to have a
- 26:19Speaker 2: think about the actual relationship and what that looks like
- 26:22Speaker 2: and how that works, because I don't think it's about
- 26:26Speaker 2: should my partner our root for fifty grand? Well, not necessarily,
- 26:30Speaker 2: but how would that fit? Like, sit down and brainstorm
- 26:33Speaker 2: it together. Be like you know, you and I, Beck,
- 26:35Speaker 2: we sit down and go, how would fifty thousand dollars
- 26:38Speaker 2: change our financial situation? You know, if we were earning this,
- 26:42Speaker 2: what would that look like? Okay, fifty grand would impact
- 26:45Speaker 2: us like this? Okay, but now, Beck, you might not
- 26:48Speaker 2: be able to get work? Is that a good idea? Still? Maybe? Maybe?
- 26:52Speaker 1: Not?
- 26:52Speaker 2: Like you need to put your thinking caps on because
- 26:54Speaker 2: I think at the moment you potentially are a little
- 26:57Speaker 2: bit tunnel visioned. Yeah, because fifty grand's on the time,
- 27:00Speaker 2: is working remotely a good idea? Maybe you do go,
- 27:03Speaker 2: maybe it is the advice that you gave back and
- 27:05Speaker 2: you have a long distance relationship. That's not so that
- 27:09Speaker 2: you put yourself first, maybe you both decide, Okay, partner,
- 27:12Speaker 2: you keep your job, kill it for a year. I'm
- 27:14Speaker 2: going to go work remotely for twelve months. Get this
- 27:16Speaker 2: fifty grand, and when I get back, we're going to
- 27:18Speaker 2: be set. We could buy a house together, Like this
- 27:20Speaker 2: is a sacrifice that we are making for our relationship
- 27:24Speaker 2: right now. It doesn't feel like you're on the our page. Yeah,
- 27:28Speaker 2: does that make sense? Like the way she spoke about
- 27:29Speaker 2: it, it was like I want to do this and my
- 27:31Speaker 2: partner wants it, Like where's the Wii? If you're going
- 27:34Speaker 2: to be in a relationship.
- 27:36Speaker 4: That's very true. My other thought is if work is
- 27:40Speaker 4: paying for accommodation and moving fees whatever they look like,
- 27:45Speaker 4: then it feels a lot bigger for me.
- 27:47Speaker 2: How much more could you save? So fifty grand as
- 27:50Speaker 2: a cash payment, but how much you've saving dream?
- 27:52Speaker 4: Yeah, and if it's if they're not paying for accommodation
- 27:55Speaker 4: and things like that, then I'm like, well, if you're
- 27:57Speaker 4: both not moving, like are.
- 27:59Speaker 2: They giving you this fifty grand because accommodation's few and
- 28:02Speaker 2: far between it and you actually.
- 28:03Speaker 4: Have to pay a lot for it exactly, Like how
- 28:05Speaker 4: much of this is just saving and you could put
- 28:09Speaker 4: it toward your future, and how much of it has
- 28:11Speaker 4: to go toward paying for your things to be moved
- 28:14Speaker 4: and paying for accommodation and paying for food and paying
- 28:16Speaker 4: for all this stuff.
- 28:17Speaker 2: I think you need to take off the emotions hat
- 28:19Speaker 2: and just go pragmatic hat and go okay, cool, What
- 28:22Speaker 2: would it mean financially if we both moved? What would
- 28:25Speaker 2: it mean financially if I just moved? What would it
- 28:27Speaker 2: mean if you know, and just like, workshop the strategies
- 28:31Speaker 2: that could be in play and then pick the one
- 28:34Speaker 2: that you think is right for you and your situation.
- 28:36Speaker 4: Completely agree.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's hard to take the emotion's hat off,
- 28:38Speaker 2: I know, because you're like, but I want my partner
- 28:40Speaker 2: to want what's best.
- 28:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:42Speaker 2: I promise you'll be on the same page if you
- 28:43Speaker 2: get a lot of clarity.
- 28:45Speaker 4: Yes, great advice.
- 28:46Speaker 2: All right, are you ready the juicy one we've all
- 28:49Speaker 2: been waiting for. Bet? Are you ready ready? DM? We
- 28:52Speaker 2: got this week. Hey, she's on the money, hoping you
- 28:55Speaker 2: might be able to help me with my money dilemma.
- 28:57Speaker 4: That's, of course we can help you.
- 28:58Speaker 2: I was injured in a car accident at the beginning
- 29:01Speaker 2: of twenty twenty one, and as a passenger. I'm covered
- 29:04Speaker 2: under CTP insurance. I broke some bones in my hand
- 29:07Speaker 2: and required surgery and time off work. The insurance company
- 29:11Speaker 2: has proposed a payout of ten thousand dollars to set
- 29:14Speaker 2: all the claim, but I'm lost. I don't know how
- 29:17Speaker 2: to counter this, whether the amount will be enough to
- 29:20Speaker 2: cover potential future costs, whether I should seek lawyer's advice
- 29:24Speaker 2: as they may end up taking more in fees than
- 29:27Speaker 2: the amount I was actually offered, or just accepting the
- 29:30Speaker 2: amount of money that they have proposed and just take
- 29:32Speaker 2: it as a win. I'm coming up to the three
- 29:34Speaker 2: year deadline and it's been something I've been stewing on
- 29:36Speaker 2: for a really long time. I would love the community's
- 29:39Speaker 2: input on this one. Thank you so much in advance.
- 29:42Speaker 4: Hmmm, God, that's a really tricky one. Like what I
- 29:45Speaker 4: would do is probably not smart, but admin for me
- 29:50Speaker 4: is my worst nightmare. So I would probably be like,
- 29:53Speaker 4: oh yeah, I'll take it, or I would maybe inquire
- 29:57Speaker 4: just with the insurance company and not get anyone else involved.
- 30:01Speaker 4: I would inquire once be like I've done the best.
- 30:04Speaker 4: I can take it and run with it. But it depends.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Does this I wonder if our listener is currently working
- 30:11Speaker 4: and of back in twenty twenty one. Also, I'm really
- 30:14Speaker 4: sorry this happened. By the way. Sorry, I've got to
- 30:15Speaker 4: mention that first, but this does sound terrible. I'm sorry.
- 30:18Speaker 2: So clearly there are long lasting impacts.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:21Speaker 4: Yeah, so I'm like, I'm if in twenty twenty one
- 30:24Speaker 4: you lost a significant amount of work and a significant
- 30:28Speaker 4: amount of money due to that, then but you can
- 30:32Speaker 4: currently work. Because I'm a little bit mentally on the
- 30:37Speaker 4: let me take the easy road, I'd be like, oh,
- 30:39Speaker 4: to take it, that's fine. But if it's like if
- 30:41Speaker 4: it was something that was still affecting me, I'd be like,
- 30:44Speaker 4: let's get some people involved. I don't know, I don't know.
- 30:46Speaker 2: This really is tough. Yeah, thoughts, of course I have thought.
- 30:49Speaker 2: So first things first, CTP is compulsory third party insurance. Yes,
- 30:53Speaker 2: so that is to make sure that you are protected
- 30:56Speaker 2: and it in Victoria and New South Wales non negotiable.
- 30:59Speaker 2: You have to it. Second to that, what's the worse
- 31:02Speaker 2: it could happen? Meck, so zooming out a little bit.
- 31:06Speaker 2: I love to do a little zoom out right. Yeah,
- 31:08Speaker 2: an insurance company has offered you ten thousand dollars. That
- 31:12Speaker 2: means that the insurance company has admitted that you deserve
- 31:16Speaker 2: a payout, so they know you deserve a payout. Asking
- 31:19Speaker 2: for more is not off the table. We negotiate everything
- 31:22Speaker 2: as she's on the money, Like you wouldn't be a
- 31:24Speaker 2: money queen if you're not just going I know that
- 31:27Speaker 2: there's probably better there, Like everything's up for negotiation. Would
- 31:31Speaker 2: I get legal advice, Yes, because I don't believe that
- 31:34Speaker 2: the legal advice would outweigh the ten thousand dollars. But
- 31:37Speaker 2: also you can inquire on how much legal advice would cost.
- 31:40Speaker 2: I think a lot of us get a little bit
- 31:42Speaker 2: of analysis paralysis and think that when we call a lawyer,
- 31:44Speaker 2: that's going to cost us, you know, fifty million dollars
- 31:47Speaker 2: a minute. But you can call the law firm and
- 31:50Speaker 2: be like, hey, how much would it cost to get
- 31:52Speaker 2: some advice on a settlement payout?
- 31:55Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 31:55Speaker 2: At the moment, I'm assuming you probably get all your
- 31:57Speaker 2: documentation together pretty cleanly and get a short period of
- 32:02Speaker 2: consultation where your lawyer might not speak on your behalf
- 32:05Speaker 2: but might go yeah, actually, Beck, you probably could get more,
- 32:08Speaker 2: or they might provide some insight where they go, actually
- 32:11Speaker 2: have seen similar injuries happen, and on average they do
- 32:14Speaker 2: pay out ten grand. Okay, no aries, thank you for
- 32:16Speaker 2: your time, or they might go I've seen similar injuries
- 32:18Speaker 2: happen beck and they're actually settling for twenty five grand.
- 32:22Speaker 2: So ask for twenty five grand and when you go back,
- 32:24Speaker 2: you tell them that you know that, Like that's the
- 32:27Speaker 2: power in getting advice. So I'm not saying that that's
- 32:30Speaker 2: going to be the outcome, but often we get a
- 32:34Speaker 2: little bit scared seeking advice because we're scared of how
- 32:37Speaker 2: much it would cost, when the reality is you can
- 32:40Speaker 2: actually just ask them, well, how much would it cost
- 32:42Speaker 2: to get your advice? Like the end of the day,
- 32:43Speaker 2: they're a service and they need to be clear about
- 32:46Speaker 2: their pricing at the start, So maybe even call a
- 32:49Speaker 2: few different law firms. I would look into injury specific
- 32:52Speaker 2: law firms so that they're not a lawyer who needs
- 32:54Speaker 2: to do a whole heap of research in the background
- 32:56Speaker 2: because they don't know the space. But saying it's a
- 33:00Speaker 2: simple injury, obviously there are ongoing impacts because otherwise you
- 33:03Speaker 2: wouldn't be getting a payout. But what I would be
- 33:06Speaker 2: doing is having a chat with someone going how much
- 33:09Speaker 2: would it cost me, because I can tell you right now,
- 33:11Speaker 2: even if you're only still going to get ten grand,
- 33:14Speaker 2: I'd love to spend five hundred dollars to make sure
- 33:16Speaker 2: that I'm covering my bike. It's kind of like an
- 33:17Speaker 2: additional insurance policy. Yes, And would you like to lose
- 33:20Speaker 2: five hundred bucks and get the ten grand or lose
- 33:24Speaker 2: five hundred bucks? And maybe there was an opportunity that
- 33:26Speaker 2: you could have turned that additional money to fifteen or
- 33:28Speaker 2: something like that. Totally get the advice, because what if
- 33:32Speaker 2: you then accepted it beck five years from now you
- 33:35Speaker 2: don't have the cash anymore. In the back of your mind,
- 33:37Speaker 2: you're thinking, man, maybe I should have negotiated that a
- 33:40Speaker 2: bit better. We don't regret things because we dot all
- 33:43Speaker 2: our eyes and we cross all our t's and you
- 33:44Speaker 2: did the right thing at the time.
- 33:46Speaker 4: That's actually fantastic advice. I didn't even know that was
- 33:48Speaker 4: the thing, because, like luckily touch Wood, I haven't had
- 33:50Speaker 4: to really be no bit.
- 33:52Speaker 2: At the end of the day. If they're a service provider,
- 33:54Speaker 2: you get a quote, yeah, call up, hey, how much
- 33:57Speaker 2: would it be to do this? Like same thing with
- 33:59Speaker 2: financial advice, Like if you want financial advice, you don't
- 34:02Speaker 2: have to jump boots all in and pay a financial advisor.
- 34:06Speaker 2: What you can do is called me like, Hey, I'm
- 34:08Speaker 2: looking at getting a financial plan. My name's Beck, I
- 34:11Speaker 2: earn about this much and I've got a few goals
- 34:13Speaker 2: that i'd like. What kind of realm would my advice
- 34:16Speaker 2: be in? A financial advice is going to be able
- 34:18Speaker 2: to say, oh, look, I can't give you a streak
- 34:20Speaker 2: to number, but it'd be between A and B. Oh okay,
- 34:22Speaker 2: no worries, thanks so much like ask questions about anything,
- 34:27Speaker 2: like so many times irrespective of whether it's a payout
- 34:30Speaker 2: for insurance, but like, how many times are we not
- 34:32Speaker 2: picking up the phone and just asking because we're scared
- 34:34Speaker 2: of how much it'll cost? Find out what it costs?
- 34:37Speaker 4: Yes, and they if they can't find you because you
- 34:39Speaker 4: just called them, they're not going to charge you anything yet.
- 34:41Speaker 2: Ah, run call from a block exactly, all right. So
- 34:46Speaker 2: we did ask the community. We said what would you do?
- 34:49Speaker 2: Sixteen percent of you said I'd take ten grand, twenty
- 34:52Speaker 2: nine percent of you said I'd negotiate with the insurers myself,
- 34:55Speaker 2: and fifty five percent of you said I'd get legal
- 34:58Speaker 2: advice even if it costs me.
- 34:59Speaker 4: S oh, I love that for us. Yeah.
- 35:03Speaker 2: The next question, we said what would stress you out more?
- 35:07Speaker 2: Forty percent of you said it would be dealing with negotiations,
- 35:10Speaker 2: but sixty percent said wondering if I could have got more? Oh,
- 35:13Speaker 2: I know, yeah, Like imagine, I know you said the
- 35:16Speaker 2: life adamans not your thing, but imagine getting the ten grand.
- 35:20Speaker 2: You're stoked, but the week after you're like, could.
- 35:23Speaker 4: It had been? It's other short term mental stress or
- 35:27Speaker 4: long term perpetually wondering.
- 35:29Speaker 2: Don't want to perpetually wonder like and I mean I'm
- 35:32Speaker 2: being pretty dramatic here, but of course the insurance company
- 35:36Speaker 2: is going to want to get out of this situation
- 35:39Speaker 2: for as little as possible. An insurance company's job is
- 35:42Speaker 2: to mitigate risks. The reason we pay insurance is because
- 35:47Speaker 2: we want to make sure that if something happens, it's covered.
- 35:49Speaker 2: But the way an insurance company makes money is essentially
- 35:53Speaker 2: betting that the amount of claims that they get in
- 35:56Speaker 2: a year will not be as much as the amount
- 35:59Speaker 2: of remuneration that they bring in each year, because like,
- 36:01Speaker 2: if all of us paying hundred bucks a year in insurance,
- 36:03Speaker 2: not all of us are claiming on insurance each year.
- 36:05Speaker 2: That's why I say I want insurance to be the
- 36:07Speaker 2: biggest waste of your time ever. Like I want you to,
- 36:10Speaker 2: you know, do your budget at the end of the
- 36:11Speaker 2: year and be like, far out, I've spent five hundred
- 36:14Speaker 2: bucks on this premium and I got nothing out of
- 36:16Speaker 2: good because you're safe, you're healthy, nothing happened to you.
- 36:19Speaker 2: Money win. I want you to spend that money again
- 36:21Speaker 2: next year. But the insurance company on the flip side's like, great,
- 36:25Speaker 2: we have so many customers paying us one hundred bucks,
- 36:27Speaker 2: but then we had to pay Beck fifty grand. That's
- 36:30Speaker 2: okay because it all comes out in the wash and
- 36:31Speaker 2: we're still a profitable business. That is how insurance works, right.
- 36:36Speaker 2: So the idea that you could have more definitely exists
- 36:41Speaker 2: because the insurance company wants to make the minimum payment
- 36:45Speaker 2: to make this issue go away. But can you imagine
- 36:49Speaker 2: the heartbreak if you didn't get advice and then a
- 36:52Speaker 2: year from now, far out, colleague, same thing happens. You're
- 36:56Speaker 2: in the lunchroom at work. You're like, what happened to
- 36:58Speaker 2: your hand? They go, I was in a correct acient.
- 37:00Speaker 2: This happened needed so far out. That's the same thing
- 37:02Speaker 2: that happened to me. They're like, oh, I'm so lucky
- 37:04Speaker 2: though my dad's a lawyer, got paid out fifty grand. Yeah, sorry,
- 37:08Speaker 2: well I just accepted ten What do you mean, like,
- 37:11Speaker 2: get the advice to put you in the best possible position,
- 37:14Speaker 2: even if it means settling for exactly what they've offered you. Yes,
- 37:19Speaker 2: so that there are no regrets in the future. So true,
- 37:21Speaker 2: peace of mind, exactly, priceless. We then obviously said to
- 37:24Speaker 2: the community, what are your two cents? Someone said, broken
- 37:28Speaker 2: bonds in a hand is definitely worth more than ten grand.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Consider all the future ailments for example arthritis.
- 37:34Speaker 4: True.
- 37:35Speaker 2: See, I don't know these things. I'm not a health professional.
- 37:37Speaker 2: That's why you shouldn't be asking me. That's why I
- 37:39Speaker 2: told you go to the lawyer. Someone else said, no way,
- 37:42Speaker 2: they're a money making business. They are always going to
- 37:44Speaker 2: low ball you.
- 37:45Speaker 4: That's very true. They wouldn't give you the top offer immediately.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Why would they? Yeah, why would they? That's why you negotiate.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Someone else said, don't accept I'm a lawyer one hundred percent.
- 37:55Speaker 2: Calculating damages is actually quite complex. Oh, there's a lawyer,
- 38:00Speaker 2: there's a lawyer coming, there's your advice. There's your advice.
- 38:02Speaker 2: Someone else said, absolutely, get legal advice. I did. I
- 38:04Speaker 2: got fifty thousand dollars more than the original offer. No way,
- 38:11Speaker 2: I'd spend five grand on legal advice to get an
- 38:14Speaker 2: additional fIF Yeah, but you don't know. We don't know, right,
- 38:17Speaker 2: I know. Someone else said, I got twelve grand for whiplash.
- 38:21Speaker 2: The original offer was four thousand dollars. I mentioned a
- 38:24Speaker 2: lawyer's name, and weirdly they update immediately.
- 38:27Speaker 4: Oh actually I forgot to mention it's extra eight thousand
- 38:30Speaker 4: dollars fee.
- 38:31Speaker 2: Oh yeah, do you still want to talk to your lawyer? Probably?
- 38:35Speaker 2: Someone else said I was told no need to get
- 38:37Speaker 2: legal advice. I did it anyway, five hundred thousand dollars
- 38:40Speaker 2: payout as always get advice. Oh my god, I don't
- 38:46Speaker 2: know what happened to you. Money diarist, not money dist
- 38:49Speaker 2: but anonymous human being from my she's on the money community.
- 38:52Speaker 4: But I hope you're okay.
- 38:53Speaker 2: I hope you're okay, because five hundred thousand dollars is
- 38:55Speaker 2: a payout. Tells me that something happened that was not great. Yes,
- 38:59Speaker 2: I hope you're happiness and healthy. Someone else said, go
- 39:01Speaker 2: to your union and get assistance. With this. They do
- 39:04Speaker 2: this for work every day union. Yeah, that's kind of
- 39:07Speaker 2: cool because obviously they're there to advocate for employees. You
- 39:10Speaker 2: always see the EAP posters on the back of the
- 39:12Speaker 2: toilet door here at work. Yeah, and they always like
- 39:14Speaker 2: call us for advice on anything.
- 39:16Speaker 4: True, I'm gonna call you, thank you, maybe I will.
- 39:19Speaker 2: And someone else last one I'll share, said, see if
- 39:21Speaker 2: you can talk to your local community legal center or
- 39:24Speaker 2: law access, which I think that's really important as well.
- 39:27Speaker 4: Good call. I was going to suggest legal laid, but
- 39:29Speaker 4: I don't know if they're figl yep.
- 39:30Speaker 2: One hundred percent. What's the worst that can happen? You
- 39:33Speaker 2: reach out and they say, sorry, we can't help you
- 39:34Speaker 2: in that department. Thanks glad. I checked. Totally would have
- 39:37Speaker 2: been free. Now I'm going to pay for some advice.
- 39:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Now I want to recap though, Beck, So, now that
- 39:42Speaker 2: you've heard all of this, yes, what would you do
- 39:45Speaker 2: honestly saying you said, I'm gonna just take ten grand?
- 39:48Speaker 4: Yeah. No, now that I know this, and now that
- 39:50Speaker 4: I've heard from an actual lawyer and also from people
- 39:53Speaker 4: saying that they're.
- 39:54Speaker 2: From the community, being like, we want more for you.
- 39:57Speaker 4: Than now, absolutely, I would. I'd probably call all the
- 40:00Speaker 4: insurance by myself first and see what I can do,
- 40:03Speaker 4: and then I would get legal advice and just name drop,
- 40:06Speaker 4: name drop.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Should I get another lawyer and they're always going to say,
- 40:09Speaker 2: you don't need legal advice. You can just take this
- 40:11Speaker 2: cash pay out. Yeah, just take this.
- 40:12Speaker 4: Doesn't this look nice?
- 40:13Speaker 2: But imagine Yeah, imagine being in the lunch room and
- 40:16Speaker 2: hearing someone else got fifty exactly you exactly.
- 40:19Speaker 4: It would just not feel very good. I mean, like
- 40:20Speaker 4: ten k T care.
- 40:21Speaker 2: We advocate for ourselves though, Yes, because even if at
- 40:25Speaker 2: the end of the day you advocate for yourself and
- 40:27Speaker 2: the situation doesn't change, you've gained a whole heap of confidence.
- 40:30Speaker 2: You've learned a little bit more about negotiating and knowing
- 40:33Speaker 2: your worth. Like, to me, that is so important.
- 40:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I completely agree. I think get some advice, whether
- 40:40Speaker 4: it's legal aid or you have paid for legal advice
- 40:43Speaker 4: or whatever that looks like, just do it.
- 40:45Speaker 2: That is unfortunately, beck All, we have time for today.
- 40:48Speaker 2: We'll get miss Jess Gricchi back on the show next week.
- 40:51Speaker 2: Currently she's recovering and if you haven't before, leave our

- 41:06Speaker 2: Just be like, hey, guys, I found you some new friends.
