- 0:05Speaker 1: Apodjay production.
- 0:10Speaker 2: We begin today by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the
- 0:13Speaker 2: land on which we gather today and pay our respects
- 0:16Speaker 2: to their elders past and present. We extend that respect
- 0:19Speaker 2: to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. People's here today. Welcome
- 0:25Speaker 2: to the Grow and Glow Podcast. I'm Ashley, I'm Kiara.
- 0:28Speaker 2: This is a podcast where we learn, laugh, and level
- 0:31Speaker 2: up together. Let's go deep, let the emotions flow, and
- 0:34Speaker 2: find the lessons to grow and Glow.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Nothing is off the table with Grow and Glow, and
- 0:38Speaker 1: we're here to be your expander.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Hello, guys, welcome back.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Today's episode. We're going to talk about hot and cold therapy.
- 0:48Speaker 2: We get asked a lot about this. It's actually gonna
- 0:50Speaker 2: be really nice to have a podcast episode to like
- 0:52Speaker 2: send you guys to let me get questions about this.
- 0:55Speaker 2: It's something we both really love speaking about. This morning,
- 1:02Speaker 2: I went and booked like a hotel for us when
- 1:04Speaker 2: we stay here, and I was like purposely looking for
- 1:07Speaker 2: something with a sauna because whenever we're coming, it's so
- 1:08Speaker 2: nice to do that together. And I booked one with
- 1:11Speaker 2: a sauna, so excited, got all jessed and ready got
- 1:13Speaker 2: up early, went down there this morning to have one
- 1:15Speaker 2: and it was out of order.
- 1:18Speaker 3: We normally stay at the emporium.
- 1:19Speaker 1: A lot of you ask because you see our reels
- 1:21Speaker 1: that we create, and it is such an incredible hotel,
- 1:24Speaker 1: like it is our favorite. It's got the sauna, it's
- 1:26Speaker 1: got the cold plunge, it's got valet, like everyone gets
- 1:29Speaker 1: valet there. The rooms are beautiful, it's got an infinity pool,
- 1:32Speaker 1: a rooftop bar, there's cute cafes around, like everything is
- 1:36Speaker 1: there that you need.
- 1:37Speaker 3: But the beds are so soft. Yeah, I love it.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Do you like a fair mattress?
- 1:42Speaker 1: I like a firm mattress, like a firm a berm
- 1:46Speaker 1: And the last two times we've stayed, I'm like, I
- 1:48Speaker 1: think it's the mattress. And then Steve and I stayed
- 1:50Speaker 1: there as well, and Steve's a lot bigger than me,
- 1:52Speaker 1: so every time he rolled over, I felt like I
- 1:54Speaker 1: was on a fucking jumping castle. I was like, oh
- 1:57Speaker 1: my gosh, and he felt the same. He's like, every
- 1:59Speaker 1: time you tossed and turned, it just moves the whole bed.
- 2:02Speaker 1: It was so soft and it almost so hurts my back.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I've never had had a good night sleep there neither
- 2:07Speaker 1: that night.
- 2:08Speaker 2: We were squeaky. Lastly we do. Yeah, every time I
- 2:12Speaker 2: actually move be like.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Oh it's so hot.
- 2:15Speaker 1: And cold therapy we absolutely love it. I find cold
- 2:18Speaker 1: therapy a lot harder, however, That's why I do it
- 2:22Speaker 1: because I want to build that resilience. I want to
- 2:23Speaker 1: have that healthy stress. It makes me feel amazing after
- 2:26Speaker 1: and I just want to get better at that. I
- 2:27Speaker 1: want to learn how to become no matter how uncomfortable
- 2:31Speaker 1: I am. I want to get more comfortable at being uncomfortable. Yeah,
- 2:34Speaker 1: and that is a really good way for me to
- 2:36Speaker 1: do it, because I don't find it easy.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Definitely. Yeah. I even find saunas sometimes I can really
- 2:41Speaker 2: struggle in as well. There's been a few times in
- 2:44Speaker 2: a sauna where I've really had to push through. But
- 2:47Speaker 2: the thing is, whenever you get to that point where
- 2:49Speaker 2: you're like, get me the heck out of here, is
- 2:52Speaker 2: when you're like staying that be longer, because that's when
- 2:54Speaker 2: you're getting pushed that point you're in that stress.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Yes, we're at Eden. I think it was about maybe
- 2:59Speaker 1: about twelve minutes. I was like, all right, I'm ready,
- 3:01Speaker 1: my ears are burning, and I'm like stunt sweat and
- 3:03Speaker 1: you're like, no, doing twenty right now? Like that's good
- 3:07Speaker 1: that you're starting to find out. But this is when
- 3:08Speaker 1: you push. You don't just give up when.
- 3:09Speaker 3: It gets hard.
- 3:10Speaker 1: And I was like, damn girls, she's right, okay, I'm staying.
- 3:14Speaker 3: And it was hard.
- 3:15Speaker 2: It is hard.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And Steve and I said the imporium last week and
- 3:19Speaker 1: he was the same. I think it was about ten minutes.
- 3:21Speaker 1: He's like, oh, how much longer do you want to do?
- 3:22Speaker 1: And I was like, we have to go to twenty.
- 3:24Speaker 1: He's like okay, because we don't do soon er often.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It was hard, it's.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Hard, but it's good. It's healthy.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Right at the end, you're like checking that clock, like
- 3:31Speaker 2: how much longer?
- 3:33Speaker 1: Could you talk a little bit about healthy stress because
- 3:35Speaker 1: I know you learned about it in that Dope Mean
- 3:37Speaker 1: Nation Nation book.
- 3:38Speaker 2: So basically, the only way we can really put our
- 3:42Speaker 2: self through healthy stress is by exerting our body to
- 3:45Speaker 2: a point where it feels uncomfortable and when it's like
- 3:48Speaker 2: stop this, this doesn't feel good anymore and it's hard. Yes.
- 3:51Speaker 2: So basically what you do is the more you put
- 3:54Speaker 2: your body under healthy stress, the more you actually build
- 3:57Speaker 2: your stress resilience.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Incredible.
- 3:59Speaker 2: So it helps you cope with day to day stress.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Is because imagine waking up right and you've gone and
- 4:04Speaker 2: done like a really hard gym workout, You've gone and
- 4:07Speaker 2: done a sauna, and then you've jumped in a cold shower.
- 4:10Speaker 2: You've put your body through so much stress that whatever
- 4:12Speaker 2: pops up throughout the day easy, It feels a lot
- 4:15Speaker 2: easier than it would haved. So this is something that
- 4:18Speaker 2: I incorporated and started doing when I really started to
- 4:21Speaker 2: work on my anxiety, because it was something that when
- 4:24Speaker 2: I researched it popped up. People are like, oh my gosh,
- 4:26Speaker 2: you need to try like hot and cold therapy, and yeah,
- 4:29Speaker 2: it's absolutely incredible. But I feel like it's one of
- 4:30Speaker 2: those things, like everything else, you need to do regularly
- 4:33Speaker 2: to really reap the rewards. If you're wanting drastic changes,
- 4:37Speaker 2: I just freakin' frofit. I feel incredible afterwards. Like every
- 4:40Speaker 2: time I start my day with a sauna and having
- 4:44Speaker 2: a cold plunge in the pool, even not even a sauna,
- 4:46Speaker 2: just having a cold shower or having a long hot bath,
- 4:49Speaker 2: I feel so much better afterwards.
- 4:50Speaker 3: It's definitely changed your life in so many ways.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and like something else that I feel like I
- 4:55Speaker 2: don't hear people talk about heaps. I hear people say like, oh, yeah,
- 4:58Speaker 2: it helps with muscle repair, and it helps for this.
- 4:59Speaker 2: It helps that Like, if I don't do a sauna
- 5:02Speaker 2: after going to the gym, I am so sore for
- 5:05Speaker 2: like two or three days. If I do a sauna,
- 5:07Speaker 2: wake up the next day, I'm good to go to
- 5:08Speaker 2: the gym again.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Wow, really helps the recovery.
- 5:11Speaker 2: It really doesn't even hurt. Kurts like if he has
- 5:13Speaker 2: a hard session the gym, He's like, if I don't
- 5:14Speaker 2: do a sauna, I won't be able to go tomorrow.
- 5:15Speaker 2: But if I do a sauna today, I know my
- 5:17Speaker 2: muscles will be repaired.
- 5:17Speaker 1: And actually you see them get into ice plus straight
- 5:20Speaker 1: after a big football game. Yeah, that's why they do it,
- 5:22Speaker 1: so they can get up and train and like you know,
- 5:24Speaker 1: get onto the next exercise.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Definitely. So I've actually written down a list of the
- 5:29Speaker 2: benefits of sauna and cold therapy so I can read
- 5:31Speaker 2: them out to you guys. This is for heat therapy.
- 5:35Speaker 2: It boosts your immunity. Another thing, I have not been
- 5:38Speaker 2: sick in so long. Touch would like Kurt and I
- 5:40Speaker 2: both have been noticing this and one of his friends
- 5:42Speaker 2: religiously does it hasn't been sick in two years, wow,
- 5:44Speaker 2: which is wild. Improves your sleep, pain management, yes, the
- 5:51Speaker 2: heat definitely, but even like a long hot bath, even
- 5:54Speaker 2: if you can try to get it in like once
- 5:55Speaker 2: or twice a week. Yeah, you know, pain management, muscle repair,
- 5:59Speaker 2: increases circulation. It detoxifies you as well. Weight loss. Oh,
- 6:05Speaker 2: this is pretty crazy. When you sit in a sauna
- 6:07Speaker 2: for half an hour, you can burn between three hundred
- 6:10Speaker 2: and six hundred calories.
- 6:12Speaker 3: Crazy, which is wild.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I didn't know that. But because your body's working
- 6:17Speaker 2: so hard, my heart rate goes so high whenever I'm
- 6:19Speaker 2: in the sauna. Yeah, so there's that aspect to it
- 6:22Speaker 2: as well. And it's just amazing for your cardiovascular health.
- 6:26Speaker 2: So it lowers your blood pressure. So basically what it
- 6:29Speaker 2: does as well is it decreases your cortisol. So not
- 6:31Speaker 2: only does it build just stress resilience, but it does
- 6:33Speaker 2: that too. And yeah, and when I started doing it,
- 6:36Speaker 2: I was like, oh, how else can I do this?
- 6:39Speaker 2: So then that's when I started to also do the
- 6:41Speaker 2: cold therapy. And yeah, I think sometimes people get really scared.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Of cold because it's so uncomfortable so uncomfortable.
- 6:48Speaker 2: But I feel like if you start off like a
- 6:50Speaker 2: really good starting point with like my friends and that
- 6:52Speaker 2: that have come to me and ask like, how can
- 6:53Speaker 2: I build myself up to this? Turn your shower cold
- 6:56Speaker 2: for ten seconds, that's it. At the end of your shower,
- 6:59Speaker 2: have a nice warman like you normally do every morning.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Turn your shower all the way cold, and just literally
- 7:04Speaker 2: count to ten. I promise you you will come out.
- 7:07Speaker 2: We're talking about when we had Steph on the podcast
- 7:10Speaker 2: nor pef nephrine, which is a hormone that you release
- 7:14Speaker 2: basically when you do cold therapy as well, and it
- 7:17Speaker 2: just makes your focus so much better. It gives you
- 7:19Speaker 2: this burst of energy. So for me, when I drop
- 7:21Speaker 2: my caffeine as well, I went from like doing my
- 7:24Speaker 2: cold plunches like every now and then at the start
- 7:26Speaker 2: of dropping my coffee culturet every day. Yeah, and I
- 7:29Speaker 2: still felt like I had that energy hit. Oh my gosh, honestly,
- 7:33Speaker 2: and even something that I tell myself as well, is
- 7:35Speaker 2: it like there's so much value to this. It's great
- 7:37Speaker 2: for your skin to expose it to the cold water.
- 7:39Speaker 2: It's great for your hairt it closes the follicles in
- 7:44Speaker 2: your hair, so it makes it your hair more smooth,
- 7:46Speaker 2: if you know. So, there's so many benefits.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Sauna is bad for hair, right, you should get one
- 7:50Speaker 1: of the cas Oh yeah, anyto.
- 7:53Speaker 3: I did not know that.
- 7:54Speaker 2: So I've been doing the sauna, as you guys know,
- 7:56Speaker 2: a lot, and my hair started getting really unhealthy and
- 7:58Speaker 2: I'm like, what's going on, Like I'm doing all the
- 8:00Speaker 2: same things, and then I researched it and sauna is
- 8:03Speaker 2: not great for your hair. So something that I've been
- 8:05Speaker 2: doing is adding like just my little microfiber towel or
- 8:09Speaker 2: like chucking a mask in it when I'm there.
- 8:11Speaker 1: If you put oil or a mask in, does that help?
- 8:13Speaker 2: It would definitely? How I think it'd probably actually be
- 8:15Speaker 2: great because the heat absorbs the mask.
- 8:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:18Speaker 2: But when it's just like dry and got nothing in it.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Yeah, And if you like me, because you wish your
- 8:23Speaker 1: hairy day, but I wish my hair once a week,
- 8:24Speaker 1: it'd be so annoying to have to wash everything.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Yes, very true.
- 8:27Speaker 2: So other way you can get a sorna hat.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Yeah, So this is what I need to tell me
- 8:30Speaker 1: what this saorna hats?
- 8:31Speaker 2: I do know this is a thing. It's all like
- 8:33Speaker 2: this little cone that you sit on your head. You
- 8:35Speaker 2: wouldn't have to wash your hair with that, but it
- 8:38Speaker 2: stops the heat to go into your head. And also
- 8:40Speaker 2: there's some reason why some people do this to stop
- 8:42Speaker 2: the heat going to their heads so much too, Maybe
- 8:45Speaker 2: because it's like closer. I don't know. I don't know
- 8:47Speaker 2: about it. I haven't adventured down the sauna hat realm yet.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Yeah, but they.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Look really cute. I can picture you with a little
- 8:54Speaker 2: sauna hat on, so funny. Okay, So now I will
- 8:59Speaker 2: get into the benefits of having cold exposure as well.
- 9:04Speaker 2: So it's also incredible for pain relief if you struggle
- 9:08Speaker 2: with sore joints and things like that. Even Kurt's mum's
- 9:10Speaker 2: been doing it now, so she's yeah, she's a runner
- 9:12Speaker 2: and she's really struggling with her knees and she's like, yeah,
- 9:15Speaker 2: ipsed to we don'ant to jump in a pool afterwards,
- 9:17Speaker 2: like the cold pool in winter. Yeah, it decreases inflammation again,
- 9:22Speaker 2: muscle soreness like a sauna. They say it may ease
- 9:25Speaker 2: symptoms of depression, which is one of the big reasons
- 9:28Speaker 2: when I initially started doing this as well. And it
- 9:31Speaker 2: increases your metabolism one thing with cold therapy, especially if
- 9:35Speaker 2: you're going to go in and go ham and go
- 9:37Speaker 2: like ice bath, I would definitely say to work your
- 9:41Speaker 2: way up to it, or make sure you've got someone
- 9:44Speaker 2: there with you while you do it, because I know
- 9:46Speaker 2: that there are certain situations which I think a lot
- 9:48Speaker 2: of people don't talk about too much, where you know
- 9:50Speaker 2: it can put your body into too much stress as well,
- 9:53Speaker 2: so you know and probably just check with your doctor
- 9:56Speaker 2: or obviously yourself, like if you're not super healthy or
- 9:58Speaker 2: you've got something that's a bit off, maybe don't jump
- 10:01Speaker 2: straight into an ice yeah bath.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Even just if you are someone that struggles with panic
- 10:05Speaker 1: attacks and anxiety, I would definitely start with a cold
- 10:08Speaker 1: shower and just ease your way into it. It's very
- 10:11Speaker 1: similar like the response of when you're hopping in an
- 10:13Speaker 1: ice bath. When I first started doing them, it's the
- 10:16Speaker 1: same response as to having a panic attack, because it's
- 10:18Speaker 1: like you think you're in danger. Your body is panicking
- 10:21Speaker 1: and telling you to run. But that's for me. I
- 10:24Speaker 1: was like, okay, well if I'm having a panic attack,
- 10:26Speaker 1: which I don't get them anymore, but when I helped
- 10:29Speaker 1: an ice bath, I was like, whoa, this is a
- 10:30Speaker 1: very similar feeling. Yeah, I just thought of as like
- 10:34Speaker 1: when I'm in hard situations, is that what as she
- 10:37Speaker 1: does she gets up and runs or does she sit breathe,
- 10:41Speaker 1: trust her body and just know that she's going to
- 10:42Speaker 1: be okay and push through the hard And that's what
- 10:45Speaker 1: helps me stay because I'm like, no, I am strong,
- 10:49Speaker 1: I can handle this stress. I know it's very controversial
- 10:52Speaker 1: at the moment because I posted actually a reels and
- 10:54Speaker 1: it got quite a few views of me being an
- 10:57Speaker 1: ice bas and I got a little bit of push
- 10:58Speaker 1: back from some people just saying this is so bad
- 11:00Speaker 1: a for you, Like maybe you're crying because your body
- 11:02Speaker 1: doesn't like it.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Let listen to your body.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I and this once again personally, I don't think you
- 11:07Speaker 1: should be hopping in there before your period and on
- 11:09Speaker 1: your period because your body and your womb and like
- 11:12Speaker 1: it craves and needs warm so sauna it is amazing.
- 11:15Speaker 1: That's why we want heat packs and like even when
- 11:18Speaker 1: you're in your period, like having warming foods from a
- 11:20Speaker 1: Chinese acupunctious point of view, like they always say to
- 11:22Speaker 1: have warming foods rather than colds are like noahsai bowls
- 11:25Speaker 1: and cold juices and smoothies and frozen fruits and ice
- 11:28Speaker 1: creams and stuff. More go towards your broths and your
- 11:31Speaker 1: soups and your curries and warming foods because it really
- 11:33Speaker 1: helps your digestive system. So it can add more stress
- 11:36Speaker 1: and not a healthy stress when your body has already
- 11:39Speaker 1: got more stress having your period. Like it's a very
- 11:41Speaker 1: yin time when you're in your period. That's when like
- 11:42Speaker 1: back in the day, we wanted to go into a
- 11:44Speaker 1: cave and just go by themselves and just rest. So
- 11:47Speaker 1: putting yourself under stress, I don't think it's the best idea.
- 11:51Speaker 1: But once again, I went to an event where they
- 11:52Speaker 1: had ice bas and I asked their opinion about it,
- 11:55Speaker 1: because I'm like, what's your opinion around doing around your
- 11:57Speaker 1: period because I was due for my period, and she
- 11:59Speaker 1: agreed with me.
- 12:00Speaker 3: But she was also like everyone's.
- 12:02Speaker 1: So different, Like, yes, they can say that it's not
- 12:04Speaker 1: good for you, but if you feel greater after an
- 12:06Speaker 1: ice bath, your body's okay, Like that's up to you.
- 12:09Speaker 3: And I did it and I felt fine.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Yeah, So I think, just like anything when it comes
- 12:13Speaker 1: to food nutrition, like exercise, ice bas hot therapy, whatever,
- 12:17Speaker 1: it is, like what do you need in that moment,
- 12:20Speaker 1: what feels good for you.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Obviously, in days when you're cramping in that, that's when
- 12:23Speaker 2: I would be like, no, obviously it's going to make
- 12:25Speaker 2: your cramps worse. I would feel like being in cold.
- 12:29Speaker 2: But yeah, you're exactly right. I think just listen to
- 12:31Speaker 2: your body, tune in it feels right. Also, our temperature
- 12:34Speaker 2: goes up and down within our body, So when we
- 12:37Speaker 2: are on our periods, or maybe it's actually right beforehand,
- 12:40Speaker 2: it feels way colder than it would when you're actually
- 12:43Speaker 2: like opulating.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Is that because we're more heated up in the periods.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so so interesting different things as well. So
- 12:49Speaker 2: if you do it at one time, like gosh, I'm
- 12:51Speaker 2: really struggling today, but last week I found it really easy,
- 12:53Speaker 2: you could literally be because of where your body temperature
- 12:55Speaker 2: is at in your cycle too.
- 12:56Speaker 1: And if you're struggling too, It's like when I was
- 12:58Speaker 1: really hetic with work, I would find work more stressful
- 13:01Speaker 1: before my period. Yeah, because your body is working harder,
- 13:04Speaker 1: it's about to shed the blood, and your hormones are
- 13:06Speaker 1: raised like what's happening around your period, so it will
- 13:08Speaker 1: feel harder. Yeah.
- 13:10Speaker 3: So I'd love to.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Chat about your experience with cold therapy because you started
- 13:14Speaker 2: off and you struggled so much with it, which I
- 13:17Speaker 2: think a lot of us do at the start, and
- 13:19Speaker 2: then I've seen you now build up to where you
- 13:21Speaker 2: are and I'm so proud of you, Like I watched
- 13:23Speaker 2: you to do it, and I'm like, it's just so
- 13:24Speaker 2: much more calm than that. Do you feel like when
- 13:26Speaker 2: you do this that it does help build up your resilience,
- 13:29Speaker 2: like what's been your Yeah?
- 13:30Speaker 1: Do you know what? The first time I did it
- 13:32Speaker 1: was with Taylor, and I was really good. I didn't cry,
- 13:35Speaker 1: I didn't panic. I was like, Wow, I've done so well.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I've still got a video.
- 13:38Speaker 3: I'm like, holy shit.
- 13:39Speaker 1: But then going to the next one, I knew what
- 13:42Speaker 1: was coming and I freaked the fuck out and I
- 13:44Speaker 1: really struggled. And from then I've really struggled all of
- 13:47Speaker 1: the Ultimate Girls Day Outs, not all of them, but
- 13:49Speaker 1: most of them. We will hop in as a team
- 13:51Speaker 1: at the end, and if they're not doing it, I
- 13:54Speaker 1: don't do it, like I need their support. But it's
- 13:57Speaker 1: cool to watch. But and I used to cry. Now
- 13:59Speaker 1: don't cry anymore. So that's massive progression for me because
- 14:01Speaker 1: crying was just like a release of like panic and fear,
- 14:04Speaker 1: so now I don't. It still takes my breath away,
- 14:06Speaker 1: like I can't hold a conversation. At the start, I'm like,
- 14:10Speaker 1: but I have to like really go through my nose.
- 14:13Speaker 1: But yeah, it's gotten better and better. But definitely I
- 14:15Speaker 1: think it's helped my stress and I just that sense.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I'm proud that I pushed through that. And I don't
- 14:20Speaker 1: avoid the uncomfortable. Yeah, like I joke about avoiding it,
- 14:24Speaker 1: but I still want to get it. Like even this
- 14:25Speaker 1: morning route and the saun didn't work. We went into
- 14:27Speaker 1: the spa and then she's like, oh, I'm going to
- 14:29Speaker 1: cop in the pool. I was like that pool and
- 14:32Speaker 1: she casually just jumps out of hops and I'm like, okay,
- 14:35Speaker 1: I'm just casually going to do this as well. But
- 14:37Speaker 1: I probably wouldn't have done that if I was by myself.
- 14:38Speaker 3: I just wouldn't have thought of it. So don't avoid it.
- 14:40Speaker 1: But yeah, I definitely feel like I've come a long
- 14:42Speaker 1: way for it, and now I kind of get excited
- 14:44Speaker 1: to do it, even though I know it's really uncomfortable
- 14:46Speaker 1: and it's not enjoyable when I'm in there, but I
- 14:48Speaker 1: know the benefits afterwards, and regardless of the energy afterwards,
- 14:52Speaker 1: just knowing that I can do hard things.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Yep, it's empowering. It's empowering, like after your birth, the baby,
- 14:58Speaker 2: improving to yourself things that you can do it. It's like,
- 15:02Speaker 2: if I can do this hard things, I can do
- 15:03Speaker 2: any hard feel more. Yeah. Yeah, it makes you feel
- 15:06Speaker 2: like you can handle more, just as it is uncomfortable.
- 15:09Speaker 1: It's just such a cool statement, like you can do
- 15:11Speaker 1: hard things. Yeah, Like we avoid and run from things
- 15:14Speaker 1: that feel hard, but you can actually do it. It
- 15:17Speaker 1: might be hard, but you can do it. Yeah, And
- 15:19Speaker 1: that is so empowering when you push through that.
- 15:21Speaker 2: Definitely, and when you've got heaps of unhealthy stresses in
- 15:24Speaker 2: your life, this is a time where the healthy stress
- 15:26Speaker 2: will significantly make it impact in your day to day life.
- 15:29Speaker 2: And that's the thing we all think, like, oh ten seconds, culture,
- 15:32Speaker 2: it's really going to make that much difference. I just
- 15:33Speaker 2: won't bother doing it. But when you are going through
- 15:35Speaker 2: really stressful situations and.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Moments add up.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Yeah, micro moments up. I actually saw a real ages
- 15:41Speaker 1: ago and it was like, if you're having experienced an
- 15:43Speaker 1: anxiety attack, to get an ice cube and rubber on
- 15:46Speaker 1: your wrist, or like dip your hands in ice cold water,
- 15:49Speaker 1: or like dip your face in ice cold water, because
- 15:51Speaker 1: it instantly distracts you. So with anxiety, you are worried
- 15:55Speaker 1: and panicking about something in the future that's going to happen.
- 15:57Speaker 1: That's what brings on anxiety is like full blown worry,
- 16:01Speaker 1: but the ice interrupts that.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Yeah, so wants to train another things. When you're in
- 16:04Speaker 2: an ice bar.
- 16:05Speaker 3: It breaks your state.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so once that state's broken, then you can actually
- 16:09Speaker 1: take a breath and go, oh, what's actually going on?
- 16:12Speaker 1: So it's just like those state changes are really good,
- 16:13Speaker 1: which for me exercises state change definitely. But ice is
- 16:16Speaker 1: a quick one. If you've got ice in the freezer
- 16:18Speaker 1: or a frozen packet of peas, like put your face something.
- 16:21Speaker 2: The cool thing about ice, like exercise is fantastic as well,
- 16:24Speaker 2: which is great for it because obviously it's hard. Sauna
- 16:26Speaker 2: is great far out having a cold shower. You have,
- 16:29Speaker 2: I need ten seconds literally go to the gym, like
- 16:30Speaker 2: you might need to find an hour doing a sauna.
- 16:32Speaker 2: You might need half an hour, you know, or you
- 16:34Speaker 2: have to take your makeup off afterwards like.
- 16:36Speaker 1: All those Oh you don't own a sauna like I
- 16:37Speaker 1: don't own a sauna, so and.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Even like a warm bath, like you have to do
- 16:41Speaker 2: it prolonged time. But cold therapy it's so quick, so accessible,
- 16:45Speaker 2: so accessible, so quick, turn outside and rinsop.
- 16:50Speaker 1: We'll got a cold shower, so caoled so many benefits
- 16:53Speaker 1: mentally and physically.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Yeah yeah cool. So now whenever anyone asks us about this,
- 16:57Speaker 2: we can be like, here's the benefits, guys, and this
- 16:59Speaker 2: is why when you always got to go, why are
- 17:01Speaker 2: you doing that?
- 17:02Speaker 1: Even from here? Give yourself a thirty day challenge, thirty
- 17:04Speaker 1: seconds of a cold shower after every shower, and see
- 17:08Speaker 1: how you.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Go, see how you feel at the end. I bet
- 17:10Speaker 2: you most of you will incorporate it afterwards, maybe not
- 17:13Speaker 2: every day, but like two or three a week, just
- 17:15Speaker 2: for the benefits afterwards.
- 17:16Speaker 1: And then go venture out and like go to recovery
- 17:18Speaker 1: center and try the hot cold therapy? Is there or
- 17:20Speaker 1: this event that I went to read did the breath
- 17:23Speaker 1: work as well? It was so different to those girls
- 17:25Speaker 1: they out, so you know how like with our there's music,
- 17:27Speaker 1: everyone's cheering each other and it's like you got this girl,
- 17:30Speaker 1: like we're all claughing and it's like this real high
- 17:32Speaker 1: vibe thing, and it's really cool because most of the
- 17:34Speaker 1: girls are really scared of Like by the end of it,
- 17:36Speaker 1: they're giggling in there, they're having the best time, and
- 17:38Speaker 1: it's just this such high vibe. And then at this event.
- 17:41Speaker 3: It was dead silence.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Oh so everyone's quiet, everyone's just watching you.
- 17:46Speaker 2: You step in there, and so like everyone going in
- 17:48Speaker 2: their zone.
- 17:49Speaker 3: Almost.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, one is not right or wrong. They both
- 17:52Speaker 1: work different, just different. And you're in your own bath, separate. Yes,
- 17:57Speaker 1: there's three and you're in a separate one by yourself,
- 17:59Speaker 1: whereas normally I'm like in a group.
- 18:00Speaker 3: There's four of us in a bath and we're.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Holding hands and we're like making eye contact and like
- 18:04Speaker 1: send to each other, and it's just this really like
- 18:07Speaker 1: you know, sisterm and feeling. And I was I'm stepping in.
- 18:10Speaker 1: I'm like, it was just different. But you did really
- 18:14Speaker 1: have to go into your own zone. And I was
- 18:16Speaker 1: just like staring straight ahead and I was just like
- 18:18Speaker 1: really focused. So yeah, whatever your vibe is, Like, if
- 18:23Speaker 1: you need support, that is definitely around. But if you
- 18:25Speaker 1: prefer to do it solo, then that's cool too, Yeah, definitely.
- 18:28Speaker 1: So yeah, it's just interesting to experience both.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I would find it easier having people
- 18:34Speaker 2: like community.
- 18:35Speaker 3: I love doing it with you.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I love doing it with you. Like me
- 18:37Speaker 2: going and do it on my own, I'm like.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Yeah, just telling someone to talk to support you. You've
- 18:41Speaker 1: got this, stay with me, like, let's go down a
- 18:43Speaker 1: little bit further, breathe in through your nose, like you
- 18:46Speaker 1: forget if you're in panic mode.
- 18:50Speaker 3: You're not, You're freaking out.
- 18:51Speaker 1: So having someone to do it with you and then
- 18:53Speaker 1: like have a giggle it makes it fun.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely, yeah, hop out like yeah, it's so cool.
- 19:01Speaker 3: And even record yourself.
- 19:02Speaker 1: I love recording myself doing it because I'm like, oh okay,
- 19:05Speaker 1: definitely see how can that relax my face a little
- 19:06Speaker 1: bit more? Went to my chest this time like last time,
- 19:09Speaker 1: maybe I'll go down to my shoulders, like I don't know.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Just having the footage is really nice to look back
- 19:14Speaker 1: onto you.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Yeah, And I also.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Like as you do it more and you see the progression,
- 19:18Speaker 2: you can be like wow, like go mean.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I hope you guys have enjoyed this episode A challenge
- 19:26Speaker 1: bhie guys.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Bye
