  This time we're continuing our coverage of the disappearance

  and apparent kidnapping of 84 year old Nancy Guthrie.

  Now, if you guys remember, she was last seen on Saturday,

  January 31st. If I have my dates correct, I

  should have notes on this. A professional would have notes.

  Yeah. Saturday, January 31st, she went
• 1:35
  to her daughter's home for dinner and games.

  She was brought back to the house.
• 1:44
  This is in the Tucson area of Arizona, and police say that the
• 1:48
  garage door opened, the garage door closed, and the next day
• 1:55
  she was slated to be at church. Whether that was in person or
• 1:58
  remote, I don't know. I've heard reports both ways.

  But she did not show and the family was contacted.
• 2:08
  They went over to the house and found a crime scene, called
• 2:13
  police. Police came and started their
• 2:16
  investigation and they were convinced pretty darn early on
• 2:21
  that this was an abduction, not, you know, a wandering off or or
• 2:29
  something less sinister. Now yesterday, if you guys
• 2:33
  remember, I don't know how you could forget unless you're
• 2:36
  living in a true crime shielded whole, which I got to say some
• 2:43
  days I think that would be good for each of us.

  It's one of the reasons why I take the weekends off I do

  according to them, recovered from the Nest camera showing a

  masked marauder at the front doorstep of Nancy Guthrie's

  house wearing black gloves, foreshadowing a ski mask and a

  gun, like in a very unique holster.

  You can see it in this picture on the front of his person.

  I do believe that is a male, I think.

  I think the beard gives it away. Yeah, that is very unique.

  Looks like that's a Luger style long barrelled pistol.

  Anyway, this was released yesterday.

  Now, last night after we got off of the old program, a man was

  taken into custody and his home searched.

  Now, apparently, Oh my goodness, I'm I'm actually rather excited

  about this part. Apparently with a judicial
• 4:21
  warrant, right? With a warrant signed off by a
• 4:23
  judge, which what does that mean?

  That means that they had to convince a judge that there was
• 4:28
  probable cause, that the scene would, I guess, have some
• 4:36
  evidence that would be pertinent to the investigation and a judge
• 4:41
  signed off on that. I've not seen the affidavit of
• 4:44
  probable cause yet. If any of you guys have seen
• 4:48
  that, I searched for it. I haven't been able to find it,
• 4:50

  happening is a man was taken into custody, he was detained.

  He was slated to be taken to the police station to be questioned.

  His house was being searched and then police went, I guess we

  don't have anything here after all and released him.

  Guthrie, continues. Overnight, the FBI and Pima

  County Sheriff's Department said they had conducted a search at a
• 8:21
  house in Rio Rico, AZ, a community near the border that's
• 8:25
  about an hour South of Tucson, and that a person had been
• 8:28
  detained in connection to the case during a traffic stop.
• 8:31
  I don't know anything. This man says he was held and
• 8:34
  later released. They just told me stop moving.
• 8:36
  Like what's your name? Carlos.
• 8:38
  And that's it. They put me the cop car.
• 8:39
  He also told reporters he works as a delivery driver and that he
• 8:43
  didn't know who Nancy or Savannah Guthrie are.
• 8:46
  I don't follow the news. I hope they get the suspect
• 8:48
  because I'm not it. They better do their job and
• 8:50
  find the suspect. They did it so they can clear my
• 8:52
  name. FBI Director Kash Patel said

  this on Fox News last night before it all began to unfold.

  With any investigation, you are a person of interest until
• 9:01
  you're either eliminated or you're actually found to be the
• 9:04
  culprit or the culprit involved. These developments came hours
• 9:07
  after the FBI released chilling new images of an armed, masked
• 9:11
  person wearing gloves outside Nancy Guthrie's home, captured
• 9:15
  by a security camera the night she went missing.
• 9:17
  Hopefully the the trap is closed on the suspect.
• 9:21
  Hopefully they feel that pressure.
• 9:22
  This is the break they needed. Savannah Guthrie also posted the
• 9:26
  doorbell camera images on her social media Tuesday and a
• 9:29
  message saying we believe she is still alive.
• 9:33
  Bring her home. Let's piece this together now

  with former FBI assistant director Stephen Jensen.

  Stephen, good morning. So we've got the the recent
• 9:43
  surveillance video released and now this person of interest
• 9:46
  being both detained and then released.
• 9:48
  Quickly. What do you make of that
• 9:50
  detention? Good morning, Errol.
• 9:53
  In cases like this, it's not unusual first persons of
• 9:56
  interest to be identified detained during a law
• 9:58
  enforcement action like was described previously, a search
• 10:01
  warrant executed at the house and if he left the house around
• 10:04
  the time they were going to execute to temporarily detain
• 10:06
  him, identify him, see if he brought anything out of the
• 10:10
  house. It could also be based on a tip.
• 10:11
  And this is pure speculation, but if based on the release of
• 10:15
  the images, a tip identified him as a person of interest, the
• 10:19
  urgency behind a case like this to recover the victim alive,
• 10:22
  identify the subject would warrant a temporary detention.
• 10:26
  What it also shows me is police are following the rule of law.
• 10:30
  They're only allowed to temporarily detain somebody
• 10:32
  without probable cause for a brief period of time that
• 10:35
  facilitates the needs of the investigation.
• 10:37
  And of course, as we just heard, he quickly spoke to reporters
• 10:41
  and the press pleading his innocence, saying he knows
• 10:44
  nothing about if this woman or this case at all.
• 10:47
  Let's let's talk about the surveillance video and images
• 10:51
  released on Tuesday because there are questions as to if
• 10:55
  investigators already had possession of this footage and
• 10:58
  just hadn't shared it to the public until Tuesday or if they
• 11:01
  finally were able to obtain it and release.
• 11:05
  What does it tell us that they did release it, put it, put
• 11:08
  pressure on the captors or or what?
• 11:11
  So the the timing of the release of a video like this in in any
• 11:15
  investigation really balances the need for public awareness,
• 11:18
  public safety against the integrity of the investigation.
• 11:21
  I would imagine investigators had enough time to review the
• 11:24
  video, conduct thorough analysis, develop their own
• 11:27
  leads or or potential leads off of what they have on the
• 11:30
  surveillance video, and then balance that against the need
• 11:33
  for public awareness. Can they generate more tips,
• 11:35
  more leads? Possible identification of
• 11:38
  unique factors from that video to include what appears to be a
• 11:42
  firearm on the the front of his waistband in a unique looking
• 11:45
  holster? Maybe somebody saw those details
• 11:48
  and can provide a tip to law enforcement that results in a
• 11:51
  person being captured. OK, so Speaking of tips, let me
• 11:56
  let me go over to got so many windows open, Gavin.

  Oh, first of all, let me just kind of show you where we are in
• 12:07
  the world, right. So in the United States, Arizona
• 12:10
  is in the southwest, Tucson is in the South of the state.
• 12:14
  And the town where he was was picked up is called Rio Rico.
• 12:22
  It's it's very, very close to the US Mexico border.
• 12:29
  So let's see, I wanted to come on over here to, yeah, to
• 12:40
  nbcnews.com. This was just a couple hours
• 12:43
  ago. Pima County Sheriff's Office
• 12:44
  says it's fielded more than 4000 tips since the images were
• 12:48
  released yesterday. So going off of what the
• 12:52
  assistant director just said, the former assistant director
• 12:55
  just said, I'm sure that they released those images just to
• 13:00
  try to get more tips, says that they've received 18,000 calls
• 13:04
  with tips since February 1. So a lot going on there.
• 13:10
  Now getting back, there's another video I want to show you
• 13:14
  this from Fox News, this a little bit later in the day, but
• 13:18
  still today talking to a couple of investigative experts,
• 13:24
  talking about several things, including the the detention of
• 13:29
  Carlos down there in Rio Rico. Have a listen.

  Well, there's certainly no more than we do, Bill, obviously
• 13:37
  because you know they were crunching at this Google data to
• 13:40
  reconstruct the video. Now for 10 days we heard and yet
• 13:43
  none of us knew that was going on.
• 13:44
  We thought that the video was going to be a dead end.
• 13:47
  And as we talked about earlier today, the digital footprint
• 13:50
  that the the Nest camera left was able to be reconstructed
• 13:55
  into imagery. So one of the things I would
• 13:57
  think they almost certainly are doing is going at other cameras
• 14:00
  that might have picked him up, not only at the location because
• 14:04
  she reportedly had a series of other cameras, but maybe even
• 14:07
  the neighborhood stuff that they think they might have gotten
• 14:10
  other information that using the same technique, you could
• 14:13
  potentially reconstruct some worthwhile video.
• 14:16
  The other thing I would think you'd be you'd be going at very,
• 14:18
  very hard Here is what he's wearing.
• 14:20
  I've seen some reporting where the sweatshirt he is wearing
• 14:24
  looks pretty identified. You know, I don't want to be
• 14:28
  sort of conclusive about that because I haven't seen both of
• 14:31
  them up close, obviously. But if I got there, you can bet
• 14:34
  the task force has gotten there. So you look at that, you look at
• 14:37
  the backpack, maybe the gloves, maybe the shoes.
• 14:40
  There are a number of commonalities there.
• 14:42
  If you put them all together, you can say, well, who's bought
• 14:44
  all of these things in the last whatever, three months, six
• 14:48
  months in the Tucson area, maybe the whole state.
• 14:51
  And if that sounds like a needle in a haystack, let me just
• 14:54
  remind our viewers that the DC bomber case where that.
• 14:59
  Yeah, this is important. Alleged bomber put a device
• 15:02
  outside. Both the RNC and the DNC Bureau
• 15:05
  was able to reconstruct that case to the extent that they got
• 15:09
  the perps purchase history for the batteries because the
• 15:13
  devices didn't detonate and they were able to get where we bought
• 15:16
  the batteries. And that was a significant break
• 15:18
  in that case. And after four years, they
• 15:20
  ultimately got that one. As we reported there was a
• 15:23
  person that was picked up and questioned and then released.
• 15:27
  And the question is, is that encouraging in that there is
• 15:31
  information visually from these images that are leading to a a
• 15:34
  wider net or specific net or does that feel like a step back
• 15:38
  in that obviously that person was not the right identified
• 15:42
  person? Well, we saw that at the Brown
• 15:44
  University shooting, right? They brought someone in
• 15:46
  initially that was not the proper perpetrator, right?
• 15:49
  But that person may have given information here.
• 15:52
  It doesn't seem like this individual had a lot of
• 15:54
  information to give. What I found most interesting
• 15:57
  about the raid and Paul, you may want to weigh in on this with
• 16:00
  me, but what I heard the search of the house was the fact that
• 16:03
  the police had to have some information that made a court
• 16:07
  feel like signing a warrant for his home.
• 16:10
  Yeah, that, that is the big question for me.
• 16:13
  They signed a search warrant for the home and just did a
• 16:16
  temporary detention and let him go.
• 16:19
  It's weird. Was a, you know, warranted thing
• 16:22
  to do. And so given the fact that they
• 16:24
  went into that house, I'm wondering if maybe they found a
• 16:28
  car that matched a license plate at the Circle K because they had
• 16:32
  gone to the Circle K to get the recordings that they had.
• 16:36
  And they asked for specific times.
• 16:38
  They asked for, you know, men on camera.
• 16:41
  So I'm wondering if maybe he had stopped at that Circle K.
• 16:44
  And if we look at the visual of the person that goes up to
• 16:48
  Nancy's door from a body type, height, weight, you know, they
• 16:53
  are, they're able to make those comparisons.
• 16:54
  You look at the archway and the door, you can see how tall
• 16:57
  someone maybe is. You can look at the tiles on the
• 16:59
  floor. You can kind of figure out shoe
• 17:01
  size. So maybe from that demographic,
• 17:03
  they were able to determine that this person stopped at the
• 17:06
  Circle K and that's how they got to him.
• 17:09
  But it doesn't seem like there was much more from that.
• 17:12
  But what I'm hoping is that that evidence is going to lead to
• 17:15
  others that put us in the same boat where they have more people
• 17:19
  to go and talk to. I was going to say it could
• 17:22
  definitely be the case they got probable cause.

  I haven't seen the affidavit. I'm trying to get a hold of it.

  All I would add to that is you have to have more than somebody
• 17:30
  saying, hey, I think I recognize that guy's walk.

  You're not going to get a search warrant of a home, especially
• 17:35
  since he was kind of guesting that he's living with his
• 17:37
  inlaws. You know, legally you had to
• 17:39
  have enough to get in there and to scrape that house.
• 17:43
  So I think Donna, you're right, whether it's a circle Ki don't
• 17:46
  know. None of us do it could he's a
• 17:48
  door dash delivery guy supposedly.

  So maybe he was in the area of the house at a time.

  That's kind of odd. Maybe he had done a search

  looking for the house because he said it's possible that he had

  delivered there. So maybe they say, OK, he'd

  search for the address of the house.

  He was there at 3:00 in the morning for some reason or in
• 18:06
  the vicinity of somebody gave us this tip.

  That's how we got on to him. So you know, the car trip to a
• 18:12
  license plate reader. I would just, I if I had a
• 18:15
  guess, it's going to be a few factors like this, some of this
• 18:18
  digital dust that we talked about that people.

  Leave. With a tip potentially that got
• 18:23
  them on to him. And ultimately as of now, what
• 18:26
  looked very good last night, especially when we had the
• 18:29
  information, they were supposedly bringing him back
• 18:31
  here to Pima County to debrief him in the jail, the local jail.

  You don't do that unless you're about 9/10 there.

  That turned out they're not to be accurate.
• 18:41
  They cut them loose down in that town by the border.
• 18:44
  And so that one as of now seems to have washed out.

  OK, so that was the most important part to me is like,

  OK, they they got a judge to sign off on a warrant on this
• 18:54
  thing. And then it turned out to be
• 18:56
  nothing apparently. And this guy was like, hey, I
• 18:59
  don't really watch the news. I don't know who they are, but I

  hope they get the guy. And before we go on to the rest

  of today's news, I just want to check in with you guys, see what

  you are saying. Let's see, Barb thinks that I

  this point, he's really good at pushing buttons and turning

  the primary motive in this. Maybe revenge?

  Maybe something in Savannah's past as a lawyer blaming her for

  some kind of loss and wanting her to pay emotionally.

  So in in a lot of these cases and a lot of lot of these cases,

  there are lots of possibilities, right?

  Possibilities for motive and so forth.

  most probable thing to me it it feels financially motivated.

  wasn't hers on her pool house, pointed at her backyard like a

  And then when the media asked her, she'd say, yeah, I invited

  them in. So it's doesn't have to be both

  things can be true at the same time.

  Yeah, there are wildlife cameras throughout the whole area.

  now that we have caught up. This came out just about an hour

  ago, maybe an hour and 20 minutes ago.

  This coming to us from the New York Post Investigators find a

  black glove during their hunt for Nancy Guthrie's kidnappers.

  And the Post was there. So it appears that that is a
• 22:34
  photo of a black latex glove in the, you know, the plant life
• 22:45
  down there, the kind of desert plant life in in Arizona.

  So let's let's read what the New York Post has to say.

  I haven't read this article yet. Dateline Tucson FBI agents have
• 22:58
  recovered a black glove from A roadside near Nancy Guthrie's
• 23:02
  house. Potentially.

  I thought, thought I was going to have to bring up the king of

  suspected of abducting the 84 year old woman.

  The Post can reveal detectives found the clothing item, which

  resembles the pair worn by the armed perpetrator caught on

  video about 1 1/2 miles from the home of Today show host Savannah

  Guthrie's mother. You know, when they find Nancy

  Guthrie, and I'm holding, I hope that they're going to find her

  and this is going to be low on their list of priorities.

  But when they find Nancy Guthrie, I think she's probably

  going to have to move. We all know where she lives.

  The media has been camped out outside her house for her own
• 24:04
  safety and privacy. She's probably going to have to

  move. Video and photos show at least

  one member of the FBI evidence response team.

  the glove from the low desert shrubbery in Guthrie's secluded

  desert suburb at the edge of Tucson.

  Authorities have not identified any suspects behind the presumed

  kidnapping, in which Guthrie seems to have been forced from
• 24:45
  her home, leaving a trail of blood behind.

  However, on Tuesday, the FBI released footage of a man with
• 24:51
  black glove, ski mask, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,

  blah. They detained a person of
• 24:58
  interest. The FBI discovered the glove as
• 25:01
  part of an extensive search of the neighborhood in which agents
• 25:04
  were out in force combing the roadsides.

  Quote, we appreciate the assistance and support we have

  received from the Tucson community.

  Dude, Dang it, Oh my goodness, the FBI said in a statement,

  Orangevale, CA, and the other was as the associate editor of

  photography for my high school yearbook.

  That's all I got, man. During the pandemic, I, my

  business completely died. My business was I had worked in
• 34:51
  high end audio as a sales and marketing executive.

  I had worked my way up to the C-Suite at A at a manufacturing

  company and I helped to build that company to the point where
• 35:05
  it was time for me to exit. And when I did, I started my own
• 35:09
  company helping other high end audio companies market and do
• 35:15
  sales. During the pandemic, when

  dealerships were closed, that meant the distributors couldn't

  sell, which meant manufacturers couldn't sell, which meant my
• 35:25
  business went out of business. And so I I was talking with my
• 35:34
  friend Rick Tracewell and Rick said, why don't we try YouTube?

  Everybody, every, there are people all over YouTube that are
• 35:42
  making a good living and they can't be smarter than us.
• 35:45
  And in hindsight, they are smarter than us.

  But at the time, I was like, you know what, You're right, we
• 35:56
  should do this. What should we do?

  And he said, how about true crime?

  Because we had to pick a niche. And I said, I mean, OK, let's

  see if we can find cases. And when we kind of broke up our

  huddle and reunited remotely with one another the next day,

  we had cases to look at and we got into it.

  And boy, did I enjoy it. I'm not a person who grew up
• 36:25
  enjoying or consuming true crime at all.

  And so it was my friend Rick, Rick Tracewell, that got me into

  this. We started a channel called

  Solve Crimes with Rick and Gavin and we built that up to about

  2000 subscribers. We are doing good work, but it

  just I needed I needed to do my own thing.

  So I went over to my channel where I uploaded my first video

  and went from there. Now about a year later, I was

  hired by a local news organization called EYT Media

  that covers Clarion, Venango and Jefferson counties in Western

  Pennsylvania. It's an online news publication

  to write features for them about crime.

  And then ended up kind of working the news desk and then

  started covering crime in our area, going to trials and crime

  scenes and the whole shoe bang. So that that's how I got into
