- Jessica Figueroa: Good morning. My name is Cindy, and you are here listening to the Just For Today podcast. And on this episode, we are going to accept that it's just not that hard. It's just not that hard. But what you saying? What's not that hard? Most things are just not that hard. They are just not as hard as we tell ourselves, as we work it up in our head to be, as we let ourselves be anxious about it, as we ruminate on it. And it's just not that hard. So when we tell ourselves over and over again, it's just not that hard. What we're doing is forcing our brain to snap out of analyzing every possible complication or what-if scenario. We're also going to reframe a task as manageable. That's what we're gonna do by saying it's just not that hard. We're gonna reframe the task as manageable. It's gonna also release for us some self-imposed pressure. You know, those people out there that need to know that done is better than perfect. So a lot of this pressure we put is just self-imposed because done is better than perfect. So when we tell ourselves, it's just not that hard. So what thing do you have to get done that you're putting off, procrastinating, waiting on? Start telling yourself it's just not that hard. One of the books I love reading is called The Road Less Traveled by Scott Peck. And the opening line of the book is life is hard. And then in the first page, it tells you once you accept that life is hard, it ceases to be hard. Because once you accept that life is hard, then it's not actually hard. That's just called life. It's similar, I always think of it to our career and vacation. Right. If we thought of vacation as our actual life, then it would make our careers feel really treacherous, right? But we've all accepted that our careers and work, that's our life. And the vacations are the fun things. But for some reason we think our life is going to be like a vacation with occasional bouts of working. But it's the opposite. Our life just works like our career. There's really great moments all throughout our lives and all throughout our days. But the day-to-day of our life is, you know, just a lot of monotony and doing the same thing and moments of sadness and loneliness, anxiety, and joy and all of that stuff. So when we tell ourselves, it's just not that hard. It actually helps us get started on what we need to do. Another one I like to tell my children when they're like, it's unfair. I'm like, you're right. Life is unfair. However, because it's unfair for everyone, it's actually fair for everyone. Think about that one. Since life is unfair for everyone, it actually makes it fair for everyone. So life is fair because we all just have our things, we have our mountains, we have our valleys, and we have to focus on those. So today we're gonna tell ourselves it's just not that hard. I don't care what you have to do. Just tell yourself, it's just not that hard. It's just not that hard. Because taking care of a home, taking care of kids, taking care of the diagnosis you just got, it's just not that hard. It might be stressful, it might be time consuming. You might need to call in, help, phone a friend for support, but it's just not that hard. All right, guys, we're gonna practice training our mind so we can snap our mind out of overthinking, overanalyzing, and moving into analysis. Paralysis by analysis, guys. Just for today, it's not that hard. I'll see you guys tomorrow.
