- 0:57Speaker 3: You're just here in time for another episode of Friday Drinks,
- 0:59Speaker 3: the time of the week where we gather to celebrate
- 1:02Speaker 3: our incredible shees on the Money community. I'm Victoria Devine
- 1:05Speaker 3: and joining me today is none other than Miss Jesse
- 1:08Speaker 3: Rici with this week's money wins and the absolutely brilliant
- 1:12Speaker 3: Becksied the Voice of the people with a suite of
- 1:16Speaker 3: broke tips for our community. Today, we'll be sharing your
- 1:19Speaker 3: unhinged question of the week, an investment property money dilemma,
- 1:23Speaker 3: plus a DM from a community member who might be
- 1:25Speaker 3: putting home ownership on hold for a job opportunity that
- 1:28Speaker 3: is simply too good to pass up. Jucy exciting all
- 1:32Speaker 3: of those things, There's nothing we love more than answering
- 1:35Speaker 3: your dilemmas. Please please please keep sending them through to
- 1:38Speaker 3: us by a DAM or head to the website and
- 1:40Speaker 3: hit up the podcast page where you can record your message.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Where you can record your message using our virtual answering machine.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Fancy exactly leave your message after the beep. Now, we
- 1:51Speaker 3: also love it when you leave us a review.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Yes we do.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Yeah, leave us a voicemail, but also leave us a review.
- 1:57Speaker 3: We're quite needy and I think that's okay, just like
- 2:00Speaker 3: in small doses, which is why we only do one
- 2:03Speaker 3: episode on a Friday. But yes, it is indeed that
- 2:06Speaker 3: time of the day where I share a five star review.
- 2:10Speaker 3: And this one comes from Sandy Pad Sandy or maybe
- 2:13Speaker 3: it's like sand iPad. Anyway, they right, absolute legends. Thank
- 2:19Speaker 3: you so much for sharing your wisdom. You always lift
- 2:23Speaker 3: my spirits. Such a gorgeous dynamic the three of you
- 2:26Speaker 3: have together. I can't stop giggling at bex thoughtful yet
- 2:28Speaker 3: seemingly comical expressions during vd's drawn out informative explanations. But genuinely,
- 2:34Speaker 3: your podcast has changed my life tenfold. I am eternally grateful.
- 2:40Speaker 2: They are so kind expressions. We can they see us.
- 2:44Speaker 2: We're on video now on video? Oh I forgot about that.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Okay, you're watching on YouTube.
- 2:49Speaker 2: We're on YouTube. If you're watching on Apple Podcasts on Wednesday, hello.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Every single one of our Wednesday episodes is now a video.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Oh an hdyeah Okay.
- 2:58Speaker 3: If you're not on Apple, like, you can watch us
- 3:01Speaker 3: on YouTube. We're not on Spotify yet because they don't
- 3:03Speaker 3: have the same technology. It's a little bit fickle, but
- 3:06Speaker 3: we are every single week showing up on Apple. So like,
- 3:09Speaker 3: if you open your Apple app, you can actually just
- 3:11Speaker 3: switch between audio and video.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Now, that's very cool.
- 3:14Speaker 3: It sounds like you should have been able to do
- 3:16Speaker 3: it like forever, but the reality is technically that's very
- 3:20Speaker 3: hard to achieve. So shout out to our entire tech
- 3:23Speaker 3: team because that took a lot of pulling together. And
- 3:26Speaker 3: I do really appreciate it because it's really fun. Ye.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Someone DMed me and they were like, oh, I listened
- 3:33Speaker 3: to the podcast, but like, I don't follow you guys
- 3:35Speaker 3: on socials. I thought your voices were reversed. Yess is
- 3:41Speaker 3: Victoria and Victoria is yes, And I was like, surprise.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Oh my god. Fun. People recognize our voices often before,
- 3:50Speaker 2: like when someone saw me in Spotlight like recently, and
- 3:52Speaker 2: she goes, I heard your voice. I knew it was you.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Really, it was crazy. It's like a cute place to
- 3:58Speaker 3: find you.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Of course friends. Yeah.
- 4:01Speaker 3: I was about to say, that's very just coded.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Should we she start selling because she listened to
- 4:05Speaker 2: the show? Stop.
- 4:07Speaker 3: I'm obsessed with our little community anyway. Thank you guys
- 4:10Speaker 3: for your reviews and also for loving us or me,
- 4:13Speaker 3: particularly for our very drawn out explanations and expressions alike.
- 4:18Speaker 3: If you would like your review read out on the show,
- 4:20Speaker 3: please leave us one wherever you get your podcasts, Apple, Spotify, wherever.
- 4:24Speaker 3: We honestly adore it. All Right, Jess Beck, it is
- 4:27Speaker 3: time for our question of the week, and this one
- 4:29Speaker 3: comes with a healthy dose of escapism. Okay. Georgia has
- 4:33Speaker 3: asked if you had two thousand dollars to go on
- 4:37Speaker 3: a holiday anywhere in the next six months, where would
- 4:40Speaker 3: you go and for how long? Is it a short
- 4:43Speaker 3: stay bougie or is that like a maxed out time
- 4:46Speaker 3: and you're doing it on a budget.
- 4:49Speaker 2: My first was Japan because they loved Japan. It was
- 4:51Speaker 2: very affordable, but because they've already been. If I got
- 4:53Speaker 2: three money that was specifically for a holiday, I think
- 4:56Speaker 2: I would want to go. Somewhere in New Korea is
- 4:58Speaker 2: very high on my list.
- 5:00Speaker 3: It's the same I want to do all of the facials.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Yeah, or like maybe to Thailand. I've heard amazing things
- 5:05Speaker 2: about Thailand. Somewhere that's relatively closed. It would be somewhat
- 5:08Speaker 2: affordable flight and I do like kind of mid tier
- 5:11Speaker 2: accommodations that I could spend on the activities and the
- 5:14Speaker 2: food and the shopping and those sorts of things. Do
- 5:17Speaker 2: you reckon?
- 5:17Speaker 3: They do conferences for financing Thailand.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Oh, leave it with me. Maybe we'll host one host one.
- 5:25Speaker 3: No, I want to do less work.
- 5:28Speaker 2: My team retreat to Thailand, less work back.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Where are you going, okay, So I'm assuming we have
- 5:34Speaker 4: two thousand dollars to spend all up, maybe, which is
- 5:37Speaker 4: almost exactly how much I spent when I went to Japan,
- 5:42Speaker 4: just like a year or two ago.
- 5:43Speaker 3: And so it's also like a really good deal, yeah,
- 5:46Speaker 3: because we've got really.
- 5:46Speaker 4: Cheap flights and to be honest, the flight there was
- 5:48Speaker 4: approximately fifty hours because I had to stop over everywhere,
- 5:52Speaker 4: and that's why also cheap. But and then when I
- 5:53Speaker 4: was there, I spent like twelve dollars a day. Also,
- 5:56Speaker 4: I don't mind about already being a what about like
- 5:58Speaker 4: I love.
- 5:59Speaker 3: Japan, I'm obsessed with you.
- 6:00Speaker 4: I did lock Japan, so probably do like eight days
- 6:02Speaker 4: in Japan or genuinely, like I would do ten days
- 6:07Speaker 4: in Service Paradise.
- 6:09Speaker 5: You know what?
- 6:09Speaker 2: I would do a trip to the Red Center if
- 6:11Speaker 2: you haven't done one before, Yes, because we went to
- 6:13Speaker 2: the NT last year and I still think about it.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Looks amazing, incredible.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Or Tazzy.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I'd like to go to Tazzy. Yeah, I have a
- 6:20Speaker 2: long list. Sorry, Victoria somewhere from Tazzy.
- 6:24Speaker 3: I don't know how you would spend two thousand dollars
- 6:27Speaker 3: in Tasmania, but let me try.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Yeah, do you know what?
- 6:32Speaker 3: Can I just take the kids to Noosa?
- 6:34Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:35Speaker 3: Is that bad? Like I don't I feel like flights
- 6:38Speaker 3: these days, Like the flights to Nosa would be two
- 6:41Speaker 3: thousand dollars, but like go to the Yeah, yes, let's
- 6:45Speaker 3: just pretend it's not like that. Yeah, can I just
- 6:49Speaker 3: do that and like spend the week at like a
- 6:52Speaker 3: mid tier accommodation. They will have a pool because that
- 6:55Speaker 3: would appease my toddler and we just go to the
- 6:58Speaker 3: beach every day, eat the gelado. Like they have fairy
- 7:02Speaker 3: lights in the trees. They're really cute. Or if I
- 7:05Speaker 3: could give my more out of touch answer, I'd spend
- 7:08Speaker 3: the whole two thousand dollars on a really really boogie
- 7:11Speaker 3: weekend at Jackalobe with my husband. Yes, okay, gorgeous, which
- 7:15Speaker 3: is like a luxury hotel on the morning to Mainsula.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Hell yeah, that would I would do the two thousand dollars.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Yea, I love Let us know where you guys would go.
- 7:25Speaker 2: I'm curious, Yeah, curious.
- 7:26Speaker 3: I really like the I just love a staycation.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I love a nice hotel. Don't leave, you didn't leave
- 7:31Speaker 2: the whole time.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Gorgeous yeh. See and I feel like everyone has different
- 7:33Speaker 3: views on that, Like if you go on holidays, I
- 7:35Speaker 3: know Jess couldn't care less about the hotel. You can, actually,
- 7:38Speaker 3: because I've traveled.
- 7:39Speaker 2: With Jess and I've been showing the good life.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Yeah, no, no, no, she likes the good life, like
- 7:44Speaker 3: she wants to feel safe and secure, and like I've
- 7:46Speaker 3: done both with Jess, like we've been through it. We
- 7:48Speaker 3: have stayed in backpackers hostels. We've also stayed in five
- 7:51Speaker 3: style luxury accommodation, so.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Like we just doing what's a girl that does both?
- 7:56Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. But I don't think I could get her
- 7:59Speaker 3: to comfortably camp for a week only if I.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Was doing like a Dolomite ora, do you know what
- 8:05Speaker 2: I mean? Like I can't make it work like the experience,
- 8:08Speaker 2: but I've never been like a camp on the weekend.
- 8:11Speaker 4: I think by the end of that seven days we'll
- 8:13Speaker 4: have long you would be like you would never go back,
- 8:16Speaker 4: You'd be big grills, you'd never go back.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Yet.
- 8:20Speaker 3: No, I just can't imagine Jests. And I do really
- 8:23Speaker 3: want to copy your Japan trip because do you know
- 8:25Speaker 3: who's in Japan right now?
- 8:27Speaker 2: I saw this, I was gonna ask you about it.
- 8:28Speaker 3: It's so sad I'm missing out my test friends Stephan
- 8:32Speaker 3: Rose in Japan. At the moment I was invited, I
- 8:37Speaker 3: couldn't go, Like I can't get a job. I've got
- 8:39Speaker 3: a job, I've got babies. Like, oh, I'm so frustrating,
- 8:44Speaker 3: but loving photos. Oh my goodness. I'm watching my two
- 8:48Speaker 3: best friends like galivant around Japan in the same way
- 8:51Speaker 3: that Jess Steph Rose and I gallivanted around Europe once,
- 8:55Speaker 3: and I'm just like, why.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Didn't we go?
- 8:58Speaker 3: Jess follow unfollowing my bestie?
- 9:01Speaker 2: Yeah, do it?
- 9:01Speaker 3: You know I'll block her while I'm at it. Anyway,
- 9:04Speaker 3: all right, have we inspired you with all of this
- 9:06Speaker 3: travel talk? Obviously we love to hear it. If you've
- 9:09Speaker 3: got a brilliant question of the week as well, we
- 9:11Speaker 3: would love for you to send it to us. We
- 9:13Speaker 3: accept comments, we accept dms, we accept compliments.
- 9:16Speaker 2: You name it.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Would you like to move on to the money wins?
- 9:19Speaker 1: Beck?
- 9:19Speaker 3: Are you ready? I'm ready?
- 9:20Speaker 2: All right?
- 9:20Speaker 3: Well, strap in. I feel like our community would be
- 9:23Speaker 3: really good at stretching their budget holidays further based on
- 9:25Speaker 3: like their money wins alone. So it's jas Gricci, what
- 9:28Speaker 3: have you got for us? This week.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Very conveniently and coincidentally, I have a holiday themed moneymin
- 9:33Speaker 2: from Gemma. He said, I got a price match on
- 9:36Speaker 2: accommodation which I booked last year, well before the fuel crisis,
- 9:40Speaker 2: which has obviously impacted tourism. So she was scheduled to
- 9:43Speaker 2: pay three four hundred and fifteen dollars non refundable for
- 9:46Speaker 2: accommodation at ULARU. She looked up the same date, same hotel,
- 9:49Speaker 2: same people, and it's now on sale for nineteen hundred.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Oh my god, good time to get over there. Apparently
- 9:55Speaker 2: so she said it was about a fifteen hundred dollars
- 9:57Speaker 2: price difference to email booking dot com and they matched
- 9:59Speaker 2: it for her.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 10:01Speaker 2: How good is that?
- 10:02Speaker 3: Such a good saving and like a lot of money
- 10:05Speaker 3: the Red Center we still talk about it.
- 10:07Speaker 2: It was great. Highly recommend. Next, I've got a money
- 10:10Speaker 2: win from Caitlin, who said I added my newborn onto
- 10:12Speaker 2: my flight and thought it would be about one hundred
- 10:14Speaker 2: and fifty bucks to do so that's what I budgeted for,
- 10:16Speaker 2: but it turned out it was only forty five.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Really, yeah, you're newborn onto your floor.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Somebody commented, sid aren't they free under two? But Caitlyn's
- 10:25Speaker 2: traveling internationally. Sure, I'm not sure if she's going to
- 10:28Speaker 2: see I don't know how it worked. I don't know
- 10:30Speaker 2: the semantics. All I know is she's saved herself about
- 10:32Speaker 2: one hundred bucks.
- 10:32Speaker 3: That's a good deal, and I'm here for it. And
- 10:34Speaker 3: traveling with kids as somebody who has just had her
- 10:37Speaker 3: toddler turn too humbling like I haven't done it yet,
- 10:42Speaker 3: but I do know that he is going to need
- 10:44Speaker 3: an adult seat.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Expensive h Next, I've got money one from Rihanna who
- 10:50Speaker 2: said my local op shop was having a closing down
- 10:52Speaker 2: sale and everything in store was one dollar. I bought
- 10:56Speaker 2: heaps of great things that I needed and I only
- 10:57Speaker 2: spent forty bucks.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Great, so good, But Quinn, can we have a forty
- 11:01Speaker 3: dollar hole? I have forty items. That's the whole YouTube video.
- 11:05Speaker 2: I saw a really interesting tiktalk about this. I'm not
- 11:07Speaker 2: gonna go too far away because I know that we've
- 11:08Speaker 2: got things to get to. But I saw a really
- 11:10Speaker 2: interesting TikTok that said there's this crisis where op shops
- 11:12Speaker 2: are overflowing with stuff. And they said, well, then why
- 11:15Speaker 2: is it all so expensive? Because if you made everything
- 11:17Speaker 2: a dollar or even like everything was three dollars.
- 11:19Speaker 3: The circular economy would go much quicker. It's an opportunity shop.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's also anyway, an episode for another day, exactly.
- 11:27Speaker 3: It's taking the mickey I saw on TikTok the other
- 11:30Speaker 3: day a girl in Sydney had walked into an op shop.
- 11:33Speaker 3: I can't remember which one and probably better not to
- 11:35Speaker 3: name and shame. Anyway, she walked into an op shop
- 11:38Speaker 3: and saw a sideboard that she wanted to purchase and
- 11:40Speaker 3: went up and was like, oh my goodness, like has
- 11:42Speaker 3: this just come in? How much is it? Like? She
- 11:43Speaker 3: couldn't find the price on it, and the woman wouldn't
- 11:45Speaker 3: sell it to her because she said that she wanted
- 11:47Speaker 3: to put it on eBay because she get a better price.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Oh I don't like that.
- 11:51Speaker 3: I don't know, isn't that crazy? She's like, I'm gonna
- 11:53Speaker 3: put it on an eBay And she was like, I
- 11:55Speaker 3: would love to purchase it, like I actually have a
- 11:57Speaker 3: carvet it would fit in. Can I take it? And no, no, no, no,
- 12:00Speaker 3: I'm putting it on a beach. She's like, you're an
- 12:02Speaker 3: op shop? What the heck is going on? And she
- 12:05Speaker 3: would get a better price online. It's like that's actually
- 12:09Speaker 3: not ty. Yeah, and it's also really disappointing as somebody
- 12:12Speaker 3: who does give to op shops. That's not why I'm
- 12:17Speaker 3: giving to them. I'm giving to them because I'm like, oh,
- 12:20Speaker 3: this is such a good piece of clothing that I
- 12:21Speaker 3: no longer wear and get use out of, but it's
- 12:23Speaker 3: still got a lot of life left in it, and
- 12:26Speaker 3: I don't want to sell it online, so I'm going
- 12:28Speaker 3: to like donate it and hopefully somebody can walk in
- 12:30Speaker 3: and be like, oh, I love that pair of jeans
- 12:32Speaker 3: and their five bucks money win Like yeah, and they
- 12:34Speaker 3: love them and they wear them.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:36Speaker 4: How do we actually get our clothes to low or
- 12:38Speaker 4: no income earners? It's like we don't trust that it's
- 12:40Speaker 4: going to go.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Yeah, So if anyone has any suggestions of op shops
- 12:44Speaker 3: that are actually doing the good work, which ones are they?
- 12:47Speaker 3: How do we prioritize who to donate it to when
- 12:50Speaker 3: we're donating, because like we do prioritize I don't know
- 12:53Speaker 3: on she's on the money, you know, donating, but also
- 12:56Speaker 3: like clearing out your closet, like being happy with what
- 12:59Speaker 3: you've got, et cetera. But like how do we do
- 13:01Speaker 3: that if then people are taking It feels like they're
- 13:03Speaker 3: taking advantage.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's hard because I understand that there's overheads
- 13:06Speaker 2: and you've got to pay staff, and you know, there's
- 13:08Speaker 2: a big conversation around the costs of those things. But
- 13:10Speaker 2: I just think, like, if you're saying you're overflowing, like
- 13:13Speaker 2: my local lop shop isn't taking donations because they've got
- 13:15Speaker 2: so much, can we discount the price and maybe sell
- 13:18Speaker 2: more stuff at a lower price? You clear it out,
- 13:20Speaker 2: you can still pay everybody, yep.
- 13:22Speaker 3: And also, just to be very clear, most stop shops
- 13:24Speaker 3: are run by volunteers, so you're not paying anybody.
- 13:27Speaker 2: That's what I'm thinking. There you go.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Isn't that crazy?
- 13:30Speaker 2: And maybe a whole episode for future net?
- 13:32Speaker 3: What else have you got?
- 13:33Speaker 2: I've got a money from Haley who said she used
- 13:34Speaker 2: the shes and the Money goal sheet tracker as a
- 13:36Speaker 2: challenge for herself and her hubby. They saved one thousand
- 13:39Speaker 2: dollars in three weeks. Stop Now, I don't know, but
- 13:42Speaker 2: they no, No.
- 13:43Speaker 3: You can't just say you used our savings trucker, what
- 13:46Speaker 3: did you do a thousand dollars?
- 13:48Speaker 2: She's put a photo of her colored in sheet and
- 13:49Speaker 2: said next they're going to tackle the five thousand dollars
- 13:51Speaker 2: wart hell y very exciting. And then lastly this week,
- 13:55Speaker 2: I've got a money in for Alexandro who said money win.
- 13:57Speaker 2: We have wanted a Ninja Creamy since they first release,
- 14:00Speaker 2: but I couldn't justify at the price. Last week there
- 14:03Speaker 2: was a sale on Amazon and I managed to score
- 14:04Speaker 2: a Ninja Creamy Swirl, so a better model, that's one
- 14:07Speaker 2: I have. That's when you have for two hundred and
- 14:09Speaker 2: twenty dollars, and she got a ten dollar discount coat,
- 14:11Speaker 2: so she paid two hundred and ten instead of the
- 14:13Speaker 2: usual four hundred guys. Many sales around. You got to
- 14:15Speaker 2: tell me.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Money win es. And I still need to use my
- 14:20Speaker 3: Ninja Creamy to recreate the Peach Soft serve from the
- 14:25Speaker 3: Australian Open. Yeah, oh yes, very niche but like delicious,
- 14:30Speaker 3: we're on it. We still need to do that. I
- 14:32Speaker 3: think that that's peak winter activity. Actually it's an indoor
- 14:35Speaker 3: activity and we can pump the heater in my house
- 14:38Speaker 3: and pretend it's summer.
- 14:40Speaker 5: I like it.
- 14:40Speaker 2: That sounds lovely. It's a great. Yeah, you're welcome to join, Yes,
- 14:44Speaker 2: so my do everyone come over with summer party?
- 14:46Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 14:47Speaker 2: Lovely.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Come on, I'm very excited, all right. I know we're
- 14:51Speaker 3: only just beginning a new financial year, but it's honestly
- 14:54Speaker 3: never too soon to be practicing really thrifty habits. Right back,
- 14:58Speaker 3: what broke tips you share with us today? Okay, so
- 15:02Speaker 3: I have this.
- 15:03Speaker 4: First one from Banksy. Great name maybe anonymous who knows
- 15:08Speaker 4: Banksy says. I sign up for star Link, which is
- 15:10Speaker 4: an internet provider. Then learned about their referral program where
- 15:14Speaker 4: you give a referral link and you and the person
- 15:16Speaker 4: who uses it to sign up gets one month free.
- 15:19Speaker 4: So Banksy posted may link in one of their posts
- 15:22Speaker 4: last week and two people used it two months free.
- 15:25Speaker 4: So it also reminded me that a lot of people
- 15:27Speaker 4: do as I see this in like you know, random
- 15:29Speaker 4: you might even find with the Ninja Creamy. There are
- 15:31Speaker 4: places you can go on Reddit, for example, and they're like,
- 15:35Speaker 4: use my referral code. So the person who uses like
- 15:38Speaker 4: it's like a win win, you know what I mean,
- 15:39Speaker 4: You get something, they get something. But there are places
- 15:41Speaker 4: you can find it where people are trying to give
- 15:44Speaker 4: you a referral code if you're looking for one. So
- 15:46Speaker 4: banks whatever, whatever you want, but that's just a really
- 15:48Speaker 4: good reminder to get out there and look before signing
- 15:51Speaker 4: up for anything, before buying anything. See if anyone's got
- 15:54Speaker 4: one line around. So the next one comes from Josie,
- 15:58Speaker 4: who says, I use my lip bum as eyebrows gel
- 16:00Speaker 4: sticks those babies down really well.
- 16:02Speaker 3: What I didn't even know that was an option that
- 16:04Speaker 3: would be so easy to apply as well.
- 16:06Speaker 2: Absolutely, as a certified member of the Crazy Eyebrows Club,
- 16:09Speaker 2: I'm going to try it.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Sounds eyebrow gel in a lip bum container.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Yeah, just a little, Yeah, it would.
- 16:17Speaker 3: That's so true too, Like the process would be, that's true, and.
- 16:23Speaker 4: They always feel really like dense and sticky. So I'm like,
- 16:26Speaker 4: that's staying, do you know what I mean? She also
- 16:28Speaker 4: uses Blush's eye shadow, et cetera. So many makeup products
- 16:32Speaker 4: can serve as a dual purpose. Don't waste money on
- 16:35Speaker 4: every product totally.
- 16:36Speaker 3: So right now on my eyes, my eye shadow is
- 16:39Speaker 3: my bronzer and my highlighter. Yes, and I do that
- 16:42Speaker 3: all the time. And I might have run out of
- 16:46Speaker 3: eyebrow gel, and I might be just using a really
- 16:50Speaker 3: old schooly and spraying it with my husband's hairspray and
- 16:53Speaker 3: then using that.
- 16:54Speaker 2: But perfect.
- 16:57Speaker 3: I'm coming at it absolutely five, like it's not even
- 17:00Speaker 3: good hairspray.
- 17:03Speaker 4: And my one is if you're a writer or just
- 17:05Speaker 4: enjoy writing or blogging, there's a platform called Medium where
- 17:08Speaker 4: you can actually make money for posting or sharing your
- 17:11Speaker 4: stuff on there. Apparently, if something goes viral or gets
- 17:14Speaker 4: lots of engagement, you can make a good chunk of money.
- 17:17Speaker 4: I have heard of some people making like two thousand
- 17:19Speaker 4: dollars a week and others like fifty dollars a week.
- 17:20Speaker 3: It's like crazy, somebody tweet see I need articles on
- 17:24Speaker 3: Medium because when I sometimes google like niche topics, it
- 17:27Speaker 3: will come up with a Medium article. They didn't know
- 17:29Speaker 3: that it was like commercialized in that way.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Like a sub start. Is it kind of the same vibe.
- 17:33Speaker 4: I know what subsec is, but I have no idea
- 17:35Speaker 4: how it works, but I think it's probably something if
- 17:36Speaker 4: they if you can. I don't know how the creators
- 17:39Speaker 4: get money. Maybe there's like ads on the side of
- 17:41Speaker 4: their blogs or something. But yeah, if you enjoy it,
- 17:44Speaker 4: it's like better to just give it a go anyway,
- 17:46Speaker 4: even if you don't like that. I really want a
- 17:48Speaker 4: substack like I made, like one of my news resolutions
- 17:51Speaker 4: was like create a substack, but I just haven't had
- 17:54Speaker 4: the capacity to do it. And I also just want
- 17:57Speaker 4: to make sure that if I did it, I was
- 17:59Speaker 4: actually like doing it.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Well, yeah, like allocating the time to actually write stuff
- 18:04Speaker 3: of substance and I just don't have enough time. But
- 18:07Speaker 3: maybe if I'm making money from it, that changes how
- 18:11Speaker 3: much time I allocation.
- 18:12Speaker 2: So true? Yeah?
- 18:14Speaker 3: Interesting. Okay, if you've got a money in Aora broke
- 18:16Speaker 3: tip that you want to share with our community, please
- 18:18Speaker 3: join our Facebook group so She's on the Money and
- 18:21Speaker 3: get in on the goss at a ground level. When
- 18:23Speaker 3: we return from the break, we're going to be covering
- 18:25Speaker 3: this week's money dilemma, So don't go away.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Welcome back, everybody. Let's take a listen to this week's
- 18:33Speaker 2: money dilemma.
- 18:37Speaker 6: Hi, there, have you got a money dilemma you just
- 18:39Speaker 6: can't solve. The She's on the Money team is here

- 18:53Speaker 3: yourself on the show. Now, let's take a listen to
- 18:56Speaker 3: this week's money dilemma. Hello.
- 19:01Speaker 5: I thought someone was a bit interesting and thought you
- 19:02Speaker 5: might enjoy it. I am currently renting with my fiance
- 19:06Speaker 5: and we're looking at purchasing a house, hopefully soon. However,
- 19:10Speaker 5: I currently have an investment property in a different city
- 19:13Speaker 5: that i'm refinancing. It's a small shoe box over sixties
- 19:18Speaker 5: village kind of unit and it has about one hundred
- 19:21Speaker 5: K that's left on it. My fiance has always been
- 19:24Speaker 5: a big saver, and so he offered to pay off
- 19:27Speaker 5: the entirety of the remaining loan. This also means that
- 19:30Speaker 5: the potential house deposit for our own place is a
- 19:33Speaker 5: bit lower. It being paid off means a bit of
- 19:36Speaker 5: less stress for us and potential for a bigger return
- 19:40Speaker 5: on investment. But I'm also the opinion that you know
- 19:43Speaker 5: this isn't necessarily a bad mortgage to have at this point,
- 19:49Speaker 5: but would love your thoughts.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Love the pod.
- 19:51Speaker 5: Thanks.
- 19:52Speaker 3: What would you guys do?
- 19:53Speaker 4: I would think pay it off? I mean, obviously depends
- 19:58Speaker 4: on how much much interest is on the loan. Am
- 20:03Speaker 4: I maybe on the right track, and so I would
- 20:07Speaker 4: just say paid off because debt is what you just
- 20:12Speaker 4: don't want debt if you can get rid of dead.
- 20:14Speaker 4: I just think that you should definitely paid off, is
- 20:15Speaker 4: what I'm thinking.
- 20:17Speaker 2: I disagree. I feel like it would all probably come
- 20:21Speaker 2: out in the wash, in the sense of I understand
- 20:24Speaker 2: you're getting married, and I have no context as to
- 20:26Speaker 2: how you're sharing your finances. But like coming at it
- 20:29Speaker 2: from my own lands, everybody knows because I won't shut
- 20:31Speaker 2: the hell up about it. I'm building my own house
- 20:32Speaker 2: or by myself. Cool, the look will be thank you validating.
- 20:35Speaker 2: The look will be one day my partner and I
- 20:37Speaker 2: will buy a house together. Obviously, when you're de facto,
- 20:40Speaker 2: there's all these laws that come into a you know,
- 20:42Speaker 2: play around, like who's entitled to what? Da da da dah. However, yeah,
- 20:46Speaker 2: like there's an argument for that's your pre existing asset,
- 20:49Speaker 2: which is the case for our listener right now. I
- 20:52Speaker 2: don't assuming he hasn't been contributing to the mortgage or
- 20:55Speaker 2: anything thus far. I also think that so you're saying
- 20:59Speaker 2: his thinking is put one hundred K towards this house
- 21:02Speaker 2: instead of putting it towards your next house. To me,
- 21:05Speaker 2: is it potatoes? Potatoes?
- 21:06Speaker 1: Oh?
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah? Do you know what I mean? Like the one
- 21:08Speaker 2: hundred k off that mortgage means like, yes, you wouldn't
- 21:11Speaker 2: be paying that mortgage down, but it means that your
- 21:13Speaker 2: loan for the next house would potentially be one hundred
- 21:16Speaker 2: thousand dollars higher, and or you could potentially just be
- 21:21Speaker 2: using the equity of that house to borrow anyway. Oh
- 21:25Speaker 2: and I don't know how the math's maths on that,
- 21:27Speaker 2: but to me, I just don't necessarily know that taking
- 21:29Speaker 2: one hundred thousand dollars from Peter to pay Paul or
- 21:31Speaker 2: from you know, the next house to pay for the
- 21:33Speaker 2: old house. I don't actually know if that would make
- 21:36Speaker 2: a difference. I mean maybe if the loans were different,
- 21:39Speaker 2: but then like, do we look at refinancing the existing mortgage.
- 21:42Speaker 2: I'm sure I'm saying a bunch of things that Victori
- 21:44Speaker 2: is about to touch on because obviously she has mortgage
- 21:46Speaker 2: breaking company.
- 21:48Speaker 3: That's crazy. If I had an opinion away soon to
- 21:53Speaker 3: be broker, oh my god, yes, it's so crazy. So
- 21:57Speaker 3: my immediate thought wasn't asset protection, And maybe it should
- 22:00Speaker 3: have been, because that is also really important, Like if
- 22:03Speaker 3: you're letting him pay off equity on an asset that
- 22:07Speaker 3: he doesn't have his name on, I think it could
- 22:10Speaker 3: get a little bit messy, try to take justice advice,
- 22:14Speaker 3: but my brain went straight to deductible versus non deductible debt,
- 22:19Speaker 3: and paying off deductible tax debt could be inefficient. So
- 22:25Speaker 3: in your investment property, you can claim your debt on
- 22:28Speaker 3: tax because it's an investment. Yeah, but if you had
- 22:32Speaker 3: that in a residential property that you live in, not deductible.
- 22:37Speaker 3: It's non deductible, And like, personally, if I had an
- 22:40Speaker 3: investment property, I wouldn't be paying it off. In fact,
- 22:45Speaker 3: if I had any financial pressures, like I would very
- 22:48Speaker 3: quickly change it to just interest only and keep my
- 22:52Speaker 3: debt longer in an investment property than I would my
- 22:54Speaker 3: primary place of residence. Is that's so, but that's just me,
- 22:58Speaker 3: and you need to talk to your accountant about what
- 23:00Speaker 3: that would be. But I would go to an account
- 23:02Speaker 3: with that and be like, we're in this really privileged position.
- 23:04Speaker 3: We have this amount of money, what's the best use
- 23:06Speaker 3: of this. This is where good financial advice comes in,
- 23:09Speaker 3: because like, a cleaner structure could be keeping the investment
- 23:14Speaker 3: loan in place and putting the hundred thousand dollars into
- 23:17Speaker 3: an offset account, maybe against either of the investment property
- 23:21Speaker 3: loan or more than likely like your future home that
- 23:24Speaker 3: you're going to own together, because an offset can reduce
- 23:27Speaker 3: interest without I guess, permanently paying down the loan. And
- 23:31Speaker 3: this matters because once money is paid directly into the loan,
- 23:36Speaker 3: like later redrawing it for like private you know, reasons
- 23:40Speaker 3: and how whatever you want to do with it, it
- 23:42Speaker 3: can create really messy deductibility issues. Yeah, like it's just
- 23:47Speaker 3: it's a bit messy. And then the ATO focuses honestly
- 23:50Speaker 3: on what the borrowed money is used for, not just
- 23:53Speaker 3: which property secures the loan. So I just think if
- 23:57Speaker 3: the fiance paid off the one hundred thousand dollar. Again
- 24:00Speaker 3: I'm not an accountant, please talk to one. If your
- 24:03Speaker 3: fiance pays one hundred thousand dollars off your loan and
- 24:06Speaker 3: that property is not in their name, then that's not
- 24:08Speaker 3: automatically a tax deduction for your fiance. It might actually
- 24:12Speaker 3: be treated more as a gift or like a relationship contribution,
- 24:16Speaker 3: depending on the documentation that you have.
- 24:19Speaker 4: Is oil mortgage tax deductible if it's an investment property.
- 24:22Speaker 3: No, not all of it, but like the cost of
- 24:25Speaker 3: the interest that you pay.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and holding that loan would also mean you
- 24:30Speaker 2: can claim Oh would you get to claim it anyway?
- 24:33Speaker 2: You know, if there's repairs and stuff, But that would matter.
- 24:36Speaker 3: So I guess my advice would be, do not pay
- 24:39Speaker 3: off that investment loan until you have proper tax advice. Okay,
- 24:43Speaker 3: that's my recommendation.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Good advice.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Call your accountant and be like, hey, like should I shouldn't?
- 24:48Speaker 3: I because it sounds like really nice, like because immediately
- 24:52Speaker 3: I think your brain goes to being debt free, Oh
- 24:55Speaker 3: my god, amazing. But also you're not going to be
- 25:00Speaker 3: completely debt free. Yes, like one little part of your
- 25:02Speaker 3: debt might be paid off and it feels good, but like,
- 25:05Speaker 3: what's the bigger picture? Look like you could be in
- 25:07Speaker 3: a better financial situation with some smart strategy. True, and
- 25:11Speaker 3: we love smart strategy in this house.
- 25:14Speaker 2: You all right?
- 25:15Speaker 3: This week's DM seems to follow a little bit of
- 25:17Speaker 3: a similar theme in that both community members seem to
- 25:20Speaker 3: be doing all the right things and just life has
- 25:22Speaker 3: thrown them in exciting opportunity. So they wrote in are
- 25:25Speaker 3: you ready? Yes, all right, she's on the money. Please help.
- 25:29Speaker 3: That's what we're here for. I am so torn. I
- 25:32Speaker 3: feel like I've spent the last five years doing everything
- 25:34Speaker 3: in quotation marks right. I've lived at home longer than
- 25:38Speaker 3: I wanted to. I skipped holidays, and I've said no
- 25:40Speaker 3: to plenty of dinners and weekends away, and I've put
- 25:43Speaker 3: every spare dollar towards saving for a house deposit. And
- 25:45Speaker 3: I have finally reached my goal. Ah, congratulations, amazing. The
- 25:49Speaker 3: problem is that I have just been offered a two
- 25:52Speaker 3: year role overseas. It's an incredible opportunity in an industry
- 25:56Speaker 3: that is so difficult to break into, and it could
- 25:59Speaker 3: open doors that simply would not be available to me
- 26:01Speaker 3: if I stayed. Some days I think that the house
- 26:04Speaker 3: can wait, because I'll never get these years back, and
- 26:06Speaker 3: experiences like this do not come around often. Other days
- 26:10Speaker 3: I panic that I'll come back to an even more
- 26:12Speaker 3: expensive property market and regret not buying when I had
- 26:14Speaker 3: the chance. My family thinks I am crazy for even
- 26:17Speaker 3: considering putting home ownership on hold after working so hard
- 26:21Speaker 3: to say what should I do?
- 26:22Speaker 4: Well, First of all, why, I guess maybe if you're
- 26:27Speaker 4: paying for your own.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Poor can or lost us? Is that where we're going?
- 26:30Speaker 4: That's what I'm than because I'm like, why did to
- 26:32Speaker 4: put that on hold. I know that it's less cost
- 26:34Speaker 4: effective if you are not living in the house, you're
- 26:36Speaker 4: not occupied, so like something about tax costs more or
- 26:42Speaker 4: something like that, But I don't see why, especially if
- 26:46Speaker 4: you're not living in it, like you can buy something
- 26:48Speaker 4: cheaper that whatever. Whatever, I'll just like rent it out.
- 26:51Speaker 4: I would not, in any reality and not in any world,
- 26:56Speaker 4: not take the opportunity to do this job overseas. And
- 27:01Speaker 4: I am differently personally. I don't like to leave my
- 27:03Speaker 4: comfort place. I like to stay with all my friends.
- 27:05Speaker 4: I personally would leave. But if it's something I was
- 27:07Speaker 4: working toward and the experiences I would gain, like absolutely,
- 27:10Speaker 4: without a doubt, I would do that and just try
- 27:12Speaker 4: and find a way to still get into the market.
- 27:14Speaker 2: That's good advice.
- 27:16Speaker 3: I'm so glad that Beck's not leaving.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't. I'm assuming that she would need to
- 27:20Speaker 2: take some of the money from her house deposit fund
- 27:23Speaker 2: the overseas move would be my guest.
- 27:25Speaker 3: That's what I was thinking, And I was like, Oh,
- 27:27Speaker 3: is that what's happening or are you just like I
- 27:30Speaker 3: don't want to buy because like I'm moving overseas.
- 27:33Speaker 2: In which case, if that's the feeling, I stand with
- 27:35Speaker 2: what Beck said on the assumption that you would have
- 27:39Speaker 2: to spend a chunk of your money to get yourself
- 27:41Speaker 2: set up overseas, I agree with Beck. I think that
- 27:45Speaker 2: it's an opportunity. The way you've written to us about it,
- 27:48Speaker 2: you can feel your excitement, like I can tell that
- 27:51Speaker 2: you want to do this, and I think it's the
- 27:53Speaker 2: kind of thing you probably would regret if you didn't.
- 27:56Speaker 2: As someone who has just god, I'm insufferable, someone who's.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Been yes, I cannot tell you how happy I get
- 28:06Speaker 3: every time you talk about buying a house. I have
- 28:09Speaker 3: been talking to you about this almost every day for
- 28:12Speaker 3: six years. You have worked, she's on the money for
- 28:15Speaker 3: six years, and the entire community has been hearing about
- 28:18Speaker 3: this journey of you saving for a first house, thinking
- 28:21Speaker 3: about a first house, not buying a first house. We
- 28:23Speaker 3: are so damn happy you tell us every day that
- 28:26Speaker 3: you bought a house. Sorry, on her own, bought her
- 28:30Speaker 3: own house. Incredible, doesn't need a man, Okay, I mean
- 28:34Speaker 3: still has one. Doesn't need him though, incredible Sorry times,
- 28:38Speaker 3: but that's still play.
- 28:40Speaker 2: But like I like, I have that feeling now. I
- 28:44Speaker 2: wish i'd bought five years ago, but I was in
- 28:45Speaker 2: the position to do so, you know, five years ago,
- 28:48Speaker 2: I wish I'd bought a house five years before that. Like,
- 28:50Speaker 2: I think that feeling is always going to exist no
- 28:54Speaker 2: matter what you do, and I don't think you should
- 28:56Speaker 2: let that hold you back from doing something that you
- 28:58Speaker 2: seem so passionately about. The housing market will always be there.
- 29:02Speaker 2: You could explore other investment options, you know, the share
- 29:05Speaker 2: market is are great, you know, depending on your appetite,
- 29:07Speaker 2: et cetera. But I think that you don't want to
- 29:11Speaker 2: live your life with regret. And I think you're saying
- 29:14Speaker 2: to us that this is like a once in a
- 29:15Speaker 2: lifetime opportunity where buying a house isn't. Like, yes, you
- 29:19Speaker 2: might pay more in a few years, but if you
- 29:22Speaker 2: never get the chance to work overseas again in this
- 29:24Speaker 2: particular field, that seems like a bigger opportunity cost to me.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I was reflecting on something similar. So one of
- 29:32Speaker 3: my girlfriends lives overseas and Rosie, we've spoken about her
- 29:35Speaker 3: on the show literally this episode, and I just was like,
- 29:38Speaker 3: how cool is that? Like she moved to London, she's
- 29:42Speaker 3: lived in Canada, like she's done a whole heap of
- 29:44Speaker 3: really cool things. And I don't know. I think that
- 29:47Speaker 3: at three am when you're up feeding a three month old,
- 29:50Speaker 3: like you just think and have too many thoughts. And
- 29:56Speaker 3: I was thinking about and by the way, when I
- 29:58Speaker 3: say three months old, six months old, isn't that terrifying?
- 30:02Speaker 2: Whoah, oh that's crazy.
- 30:03Speaker 3: I was like, oh my god, I've missed that boat
- 30:07Speaker 3: for me. Like I'm not mad, I'm really like, I'm
- 30:10Speaker 3: really grateful for the position I am in in life,
- 30:13Speaker 3: but like I can't upper move to London. I can't
- 30:16Speaker 3: upper move to New York. I could have when I
- 30:18Speaker 3: was twenty and I wasn't way down, but like life
- 30:20Speaker 3: is so different now, and I'm not mad. I adore it,
- 30:22Speaker 3: but I just go, twenty year old me should have
- 30:25Speaker 3: done something like that. She should have gone and lived overseas,
- 30:28Speaker 3: and like that would have been really cool. So I
- 30:31Speaker 3: get not only you going, I can see myself regretting it,
- 30:34Speaker 3: but I go. I think I regret it a little bit.
- 30:37Speaker 3: And I wish that I'd been more opportunistic in saying
- 30:40Speaker 3: that I was a little bit naive and angsty in
- 30:44Speaker 3: my early twenties. I don't think I would have just
- 30:47Speaker 3: purely because I would have been too scared, then that's fine,
- 30:50Speaker 3: But like, hindsight's a beautiful thing. But I think you
- 30:53Speaker 3: should come and talk to us at Zella Money. I
- 30:56Speaker 3: think you should come in and have a chat with
- 30:58Speaker 3: one of our brokers and be like, this is my
- 30:59Speaker 3: sitty situation. What would it look like to buy a house?
- 31:03Speaker 3: What would it look like to have an investment property
- 31:05Speaker 3: while I'm overseas? What would it look like to buy
- 31:08Speaker 3: when I got back after two years? What would it
- 31:10Speaker 3: look like if I didn't come back after two years
- 31:13Speaker 3: and work all of that out? Because if you've been
- 31:16Speaker 3: saving and you've been planning, great, we can still achieve it.
- 31:19Speaker 3: But like, let's just like maybe make a few different plans.
- 31:22Speaker 3: So instead of hypotheticals, we've got a few different plans
- 31:25Speaker 3: on the table, and you know what each option kind
- 31:27Speaker 3: of looks like, so that you can make the best
- 31:29Speaker 3: decision for you. Is what I would say.
- 31:30Speaker 2: But what did everybody else think?
- 31:31Speaker 3: Okay, So the first question I asked the community was
- 31:34Speaker 3: if you were in this position, would you prioritize experience
- 31:37Speaker 3: over property? Ninety three percent of you said yep, experience
- 31:41Speaker 3: is just as important. We then asked would your answer
- 31:45Speaker 3: change if the property market continued to rise while you
- 31:47Speaker 3: were away. Twenty five percent of you you said yeah,
- 31:49Speaker 3: I changed my answer, but seventy five percent said no.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Incredible.
- 31:52Speaker 3: Then we asked, should family opinions factor into a decision
- 31:56Speaker 3: like this? No, Well good because seventy nine percent of
- 31:59Speaker 3: you said no. I then said, guys, what is your
- 32:03Speaker 3: two cents? And this is my favorite question ever. First
- 32:06Speaker 3: person said, buy a property rented out for the duration
- 32:09Speaker 3: of time that you have overseas?
- 32:11Speaker 2: Incredible?
- 32:12Speaker 3: Can you buy and rent out while overseas? Can you
- 32:15Speaker 3: purchase a property and have a tenant move in? Would
- 32:20Speaker 3: you consider an investment property you could move into it
- 32:22Speaker 3: when you come back. You guys all have wooden brains.
- 32:26Speaker 3: Cell It's like Jess and I like we like have
- 32:29Speaker 3: the same thing to say, but in just a round
- 32:31Speaker 3: about way. Often another person said life is for living
- 32:35Speaker 3: and tomorrow isn't promised to take opportunities when they land
- 32:38Speaker 3: on your doorstep.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Agree, that's very beautiful.
- 32:40Speaker 3: I genuinely have never laughed so hard at like a
- 32:44Speaker 3: response like a comment section, because they are literally all,
- 32:49Speaker 3: why don't you buy a property and rent it out?
- 32:53Speaker 3: You not like scrolling through this, Go do the job.
- 32:56Speaker 3: The house can wait. You could also buy one before
- 32:58Speaker 3: you leave, Like we all are on the same page.
- 33:01Speaker 3: I get it, But overwhelmingly the community is like, please
- 33:06Speaker 3: just take an opportunity. You can always change your mind.
- 33:09Speaker 3: And I think that that is, you know, the story
- 33:12Speaker 3: and the narrative and the thing we'll leave on because
- 33:14Speaker 3: there wasn't actually in this response a lot of diversity
- 33:18Speaker 3: of opinion.
- 33:18Speaker 2: And I feel like that says a lot as well,
- 33:20Speaker 2: doesn't it.
- 33:21Speaker 3: I just thought it was so funny, like doing those comments,
- 33:23Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, okay, so we are just all queens
- 33:26Speaker 3: on the same page.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Please keep us posted as well.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Really exactly, and like we adore hearing that our community
- 33:33Speaker 3: was on track to achieving their money goals. And I
- 33:35Speaker 3: guess things like relationships and job opportunities are presenting, you know,
- 33:38Speaker 3: really exciting side quests for you guys. And how cute
- 33:42Speaker 3: is it? Guys they want our opinion. I don't know
- 33:45Speaker 3: what they should do with their life. Sweet that's crazy
- 33:49Speaker 3: to me. All right, lovely listeners, it is time for
- 33:53Speaker 3: us to go home, because that is all we have
- 33:55Speaker 3: time for today. Whether you are listening on your hot
- 33:57Speaker 3: girl walk or you're in the car, or you're simply

- 34:05Speaker 3: and we get to see you on Monday for a
- 34:07Speaker 3: brand new money diary. Have the best weekend, by guys.
